I love you stories that know they are stories, i love you breaking the fourth wall, i love you omniscient narrators, i love you circular storytelling, i love you “maybe it will turn out this time”, i love you stories that end by starting over

just thinking about how they changed my boy from a trainhopping wobbly hobo, and then instead of letting him be the crustpunk anarchist he was meant to be, made him lil waiter struggling artist waiting to strike it big with his one song glory

Current arc sskk as the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice: Akutagawa died and Atsushi is doing anything to bring him back to life, and when he finally succeeds, when he finally manages to snap Akutagawa out of the vampire state, Akutagawa dies again because he was already dead when he was bitten. Atsushi's incommensurable love for him being Akutagawa's greatest sentence of death, because if he hadn't snapped Akutagawa out of it, if he had loved him less, Akutagawa would still be there.

If Critical Role were Broadway,
Vox Machina is Wicked with a side of Hamilton
Mighty Nein is Kimberly Akimbo with a side of Come From Away
And Bell’s Hells is Les Miserables with a side of maybe it will turn out this time on the road to hell on the railroad line…

I just finished seeing the Hadestown musical and I've come to realize that I don't see enough Solangelo as Orpheus and Eurydice. There are a few amazing fics, don't get me wrong, but this trope with them is absolutely perfect. I'd also like the idea of Nico being Orpheus (Obviously minus the music) in the trope. He's experienced so much loss and has finally found someone who loves him completely. (Yes, they still have problems, all couples do. It was touched in tsats, ifykyk how it was resolved.)
I honestly also just want to see them drawn like them, myth or Hadestown. ACTUALLY, OR THE HADES GAME. Like, logically yes, Nico would be Zagreus, but Solangelo as Eurydice and Orpheus from Hades is actually so cute now that I think about it.

You ever think about the fact that ultimately it’s the fact that Orpheus “used to see the way the world could be - but now the way it is is all [he] see[s]” is what ultimatley lead to him turning around?
It was him losing his hope for / vision of the world changing for rhe better that leads to his and Eurydice’s demise. It’s him being unable to see anything but the state of the world as it is now, that despairs him

HI! i saw u reblogged the West end hadestown and said you've seen it so i have to ask, thoughts on hades? the character switch when he goes very camp on chant (reprise) threw me for a fucking LOOP. i had been crying beforehand but I was just like desperately holding in my laughter after that. the "young man" up against the door frame? I almost pissed myself. and his legs....
OH MY GOD. OKAY. YES
i'm the wrong person to ask about this because whenever a stage performer turns up the camp to 100, worthwhile questions such as 'is this the best considered acting choice for the character' don't stand a chance. they are completely overshadowed by the gay part of my brain emitting whirring noises. i enjoy it too much to care
but anyway my actual thoughts on zachary's hades are as follows:
i like when hades sucks. i enjoy when he gets to be a melodramatic loser and a villain-y villain, because it makes orpheus managing to get through to him hit much harder for me. so zachary hades with his sleazy attitude and the kind of warped enjoyment he's getting out of playing at being powerful and manipulative fulfilled my every wish. tailored to me specifically
i especially enjoyed his acting when he starts to break down a bit for epic 3, his scared/angry/shaken/lashing out was all delicious
direct quote from the messages i was sending people about the show after i saw it: i will say that he was not very.. idk.. plausible?? in chant 2 convo with orpheus specifically bc he was having too much gay fun strutting around the revolve to sell the lines about keeping a woman lmaooo
also i'm extra sad that we don't have the 'now it thickens on my tongue / now it quickens in my lung / now i'm stricken now i'm stung / it's done already' lines in his kiss the riot any more because they're some of my favourites and i want his gay take on them

new hadestown motif detected: birds
its not as prevalent as other themes but still devloped p much from the beginning when hermes said orpheus "sang just like a bird up on a line" + the bird mention in the last verse of weddingsong n obviously the entirety of hey little songbird,,, and then theres mentions of vultures somewhere too once things start going downhill and then that little duet(?) hadess and persephone have towards the end with orpheus' heart being a bird on a spit n his chest and the earth being a bird on a spit in the sky etc i think that's enough to classify it as a theme in there . thank u for coming to my ted talk
