CW: light blood, remembrance of an attack, vampire attack
"Good evening, your excellency!"
The curtain rings squealed along the rod and a stream of pale moonlight flooded the vampire's face. They groaned, flipping over onto their face for several seconds before finally peeking up from their pillow at the primly dressed figure at their window.
"Can you ever offer a little warning?"
"Forgive me," their servant said, dipping their head dramatically, "was 'good evening' not enough lead-up? I thought you'd be the expert of warnings by now."
They gave a little shrug, tagged by a grating little 'huh', and strode to the tea table, plucking the lid off a wide porcelain bowl with a puff of steam. They peeled one of the cream-colored hand towels from a stack, shaking it out with brusque, careful hands as they moved to the vampire's bedside.
"Are you ever going to let that go?" the vampire sighed, pressing their face into the warm humid fabric in the servant's hands before accepting it into their own.
"Hm...am I ever going to die? Breakfast or hair first?"
"Hair." The vampire swung their legs over the bedside and wobbled over to the vanity seat, more out of habit than actual need. As always the looking glass only reflected the room behind them. "Have you ever thought of leaving since you hate me so much?"
The servant picked up a brush and began dragging it through the vampire's thick black locks. "Not much of a resume. 200 years at the same job? They might think I don't know how to do anything else."
They said it with a chuckle, but the vampire picked out the mournful undertone. That little seed of guilt started sprouting in their chest again. Though they still couldn't quite bring themself to regret their actions. If they could go back in time, replay it differently, maybe they would've asked, but they still didn't see themself accepting a no. They were twisted like that.
"At least it shows consistency," they offered. "Dependability. Loyalty. Employer's like that sort of thing."
The servant sectioned the hair off into three parts, beginning a loose plait down the vampire's back. "I'm not sure I do know how to do anything else. Don't touch those."
They swatted at the vampire's hand as they played with the rows of carefully displayed hair ties and pins. Today's selection included a silk onyx ribbon, a pair of long rose quartz pins, and a set of emerald hair rings. A matching emerald collar chain sat just out of reach and ready for when it was time to dress.
"Emeralds?"
"They bring out the color in your face." The servant picked up a pin and slid it neatly into the top of the braid. "No one's seen you in a while; you don't want to shock them with your corpse skin."
"Ah. And where is it I'm going?"
"You're meeting with the governor today. To talk about a protection agreement."
"And you decided this, did you?"
The servant let the second pin scrape along the vampire's scalp. "Were you going to do it on your own?"
The vampire stifled a wince. "You know how I feel about people."
"A vampire without a purpose is a vampire on the chopping block. You make them restless. The bonds of a deal will keep them from doing anything stupid. Besides, you keep the land clear anyway, you might as well be acknowledged for it."
The vampire sighed deeply. Their servant was right. As much as they disliked mortals with their quivering shoulders and fast rabbit hearts, this was the best way to remain unbothered in their reclusive lifestyle.
"What time?"
"Just after noon." The servant hooked the last hair ring and immediately turned back to the tea table. The vampire pivoted in their seat, watching as they poured the red-tinted water and spooned their usual two teaspoons of sugar.
"You could do something else," the vampire said. "If you wanted."
The servant shrugged. "I'm good at this."
They pulled out the dining chair, and the vampire quietly rose up to accept it. They sipped the warm drink, feeling how it temporarily heated their chest cavity before gradually icing over. The sweet spiciness of the sugar, and the cloves the servant had probably steeped in the water, was offset by a sharp metallic flavor. The vampire closed their eyes and savored the delicious aftertaste. Their servant always could make the unseemly bits of being a supernatural creature more elegant.
The servant's eyes pricked into the side of their face, intent, piercing. The vampire never forgot what they were, but they did sometimes forget that they were the same. That nothing but the flimsy rules of class etiquette kept their servant in their role. They could turn at any moment, in a flash of fangs and raking nails, and perhaps this time the vampire would lose. They'd never lost to any of the creatures they kept at the edge of the forest, but they might lose to their equal.
"You know, some people choose lovers to spend their immortality with?" the servant said finally.
Some of the tension in the vampire's shoulders relaxed. "I had no use for a lover."
They still remembered that first day in their room, the utter terror of standing in front of the mirror and having no face looking back.
Who's going to take care of me?
Perhaps it had been a silly thing to strike them. Especially as their first worry since being turned, but they genuinely couldn't think of anything more terrifying. When they were rejected, and surely they would be rejected, they would be alone, and who was to help them then? Not a family member, they were as blue blooded as them; even if they were turned, they'd never fed themselves, dressed themselves, or made up their own hair. And with no way of seeing themself anymore, those certainly seemed like necessary skills for a helper to have.
The choice of eternal partner had been obvious. And with their new identity at growing risk of discovery, hastily made.
They got up early, just as the fingers of dawn scraped the sky, and lay in wait behind their door until those familiar steps sounded down the hall. The door creaked, the usual morning greeting chirped…and the vampire pounced.
They remembered very little of the exchange, it had all been too fast, too heady with their first taste of blood. It only could be recalled in pieces: a cry, a struggle, shattered tea cups, a dark tea stain on the carpet that was probably still there. Then quiet.
They had thought they’d killed their servant. They were so limp and so still, and the vampire had had only their own traumatic fate as instructions. But then suddenly the breath came again and the feverish pain of change set in, and when the servant awoke in their shared cell, exorcists and experts prodding useless cure and concoctions through the bars, they were not the same as before.
At least when they were outcast, it was together.
And at least, as their feelings grew bitter and their demeanor more sharp-edged, they stayed.
The vampire shook themself from their thoughts. “Are you coming to this meeting?”
“Who else would tell you what to say?”
“See,” the vampire pointed at them, “that’s something you’re good at. Talking people into things, using eloquent words, you could be a politician.”
The vampire didn’t know why they were pressing this. They didn’t want their servant to go. If they had no one else 200 years ago, they certainly had no one now. Maybe giving them options soothed their persistent guilt. Gave them some false belief that turning the servant hadn’t been such a prison.
The servant chuckled. “A politician with fangs? I’m sure that would go over really well.”
“Just a thought.”
The servant poured a second cup of tea—their first breach of etiquette—and slurped it loudly—their second. They were still master and servant, but somewhere along the line, harsh, defining borders had softened into companionship.
“I’m fine with my job,” the servant said, setting down their cup into its saucer. “I simply wonder sometimes.”
With a slight nod, they retreated to the door, probably to bring in today’s outfit. They paused a moment with their hand on the knob, door just cracked.
They looked over their shoulder, fangs peeking through something almost grimace, almost smile.
“I don’t hate you.”
Then they were gone.

it's rare for me to find a piece of media that showcases a relationship that perfectly appeals to me as a person, but wow Jack Jeanne managed to do it so well. it makes me super happy !
minor spoilers for Shirota's route belooow~ i know this tag is a little quiet but good etiquette is important !
the relationship Shirota has with Kisa is,,, just so comforting to me with how it's presented? i just love it to bits. they're both sorta introverted people and a lot of their scenes together don't feature a lot of back and forth between them. i know to some it may seem weird or nonromantic/affectionate, but in my eyes there's such a quiet, unspoken intimacy that i adore and wish i could see more of in games !
they don't need to speak to each other super often, laughing, and chatting. they can just sit in each other's presence, eat sweets, drink tea, enjoy the peace, all with an understanding that they're enjoying themselves and are happy. that's how much of my own time is spent with those i'm close with, and to have a game portray that and not show it as being anything besides natural for them is deeply comforting.
also imo Shirota is probably one of the more interestingly written introvert characters. i think it's a bit too common for writers to make an introverted character that's a complete shut-in or is super shy. however, not all introverts are like that ! some like going outside just fine, or they are very direct when they speak. the thing that makes them introverted is that they get exhausted being around others for too long. it's just a take on an introvert i haven't seen in a while.
tldr this game was tailor made for my little introverted aro(?)ace heart !

do u have any favorite hollow knight ships or headcanons? :)
yes have you heard about quirrelhol- [cartoonishly large anvil drops directly onto my skull]
(discussion below the cut - I've censored character names/keywords with periods so this (hopefully) doesn't show up in tags as it's entirely just me rambling.)
The requisite #1 Gay Bugs In My Heart aside, there are a handful of others I do care about! I really am fond of She.o and the Nailsm.ith. what if two big round bugs fell in love over a shared calling to Create and the finding of purpose beyond achieving 'perfection' in their respective crafts. I've a mind to go through their fic tag at some point. I'm curious about Lacen.et but it's hard for me to get into it with zero story context, so my interest in that will probably be very passive until The Day Of Reckoning (SS release date).
I honestly don't have much else romantically I'm very into - most other ships I'm either of the "it's cute/fine/funny, I can see it" or "not my thing, but live your life" camp, since I'm not generally a multishipper and Quir.rel and Holl.ow seem like the most popular people to throw other characters at. Generally not a big 'dead dove'/'problematic' ship fan, and I won't touch that pressurized can of worms any further than that. I'm not here to evangelize or condemn, just to do my thing like everyone else! If anyone really really needs to know my opinions on a specific ship, send me an ask/DM me and I can give my honest answer (I just don't want to kick up any drama, even accidentally.)
That being said, I am incredibly interested in explorations of quite a few of the nonromantic relationships in HK - I love anything to do with the Dreamers (Her.rah <3333) and postgame stuff with the siblings. I've got a long list of fics bookmarked in a Need To Read folder (includes stuff like sbab.l, Worldse.nse, Los.t Kin, etc.) and will likely have more properly-formed thoughts then, but I'm a sucker for narratives about healing and growth and general bittersweet angst-with-hope stuff so postgame fix-it stuff is probably always going to appeal to me the most.
As for headcanons, I am notoriously terrible at coming up with them myself oops. You'll notice I tend to gather what I like from fanon and mess with it in my own little sandbox (with all due credit) so common things like eight-limbed Horne.t, the Child of Three Queens lore (which I think is more cut-canon than fanon??), Quir.rel's antennae (and general elaboration on buggy qualities in general, for everyone), etc. As a personal headcanon for the Knight/Ghost of Hallown.est/whatever you wanna call our funky little player character, they are like. Absolute peak autism to me (in the absolute most loving way possible). Fully a sentient adult, but nonverbal/generally noncommunicative and not really a former-of-solid-relationships. They come and they go as they please and everyone finds them charming, even those who might not admit it right away.
I'm much better at "here is this idea, expand it" than "come up with something new from a vacuum". I will take a headcanon and run wild with it, but generating those on my own? That requires brain cells that I usually do not have a proper hold on.
Wow this got long. Anyways! them's my thoughts there's a billion of them

Oh wow, it's cool to see you back here! I just want to say thank you for making this story! I don't think I've cried as many times for a podcast as Malevolent made me, and Arthur and John's relationship develops wonderfully.
I guess I just wanted to say that, though I can't speak for all queer people, I don't see the podcast as queerbaiting (I know that was one of the reasons you left Tumblr before). It's clear John and Arthur love each other. Lines that point at their relationship ("and yet you love him," "you only have eyes for him", etc.) might seem like queerbaiting (and might be some of the reasons why fans thought that way), but the way I see it, it's how the show acknowledges that their bond can be just as strong as a romantic one. In a lot of ways they're more than friends, and the podcast acknowledges that.
I've seen stories imply that relationships can either be friendly or romantic without a grey area, and that nonromantic pairings are less strong or loving or meaningful. There are multiple ways to love a person, and I really like how John and Arthur's relationship explores that.
I could be wrong, but these were just thoughts I had at least. Thank you for your amazing show!
100% agree! Thanks for the lovely words :)

The Eclipse Ep 4 Stray Thoughts
Back-to-back high school shows on Friday, and they're both good. Excited to see the new form of oppressive structural power we'll face today!
Really love the homoerotic energy of these Judo scenes. It's fun watching them knowing that Khaotung was better in their training, and that First was so nervous about injuring Khaotung.
Akk half undressed is framed well with Ayan's peeking. Me, too, Ayan.
Ayan needs a better way to secure this notebook.
Oh lord a pratfall kiss. This one was okay, but I am just not a fan of this as a dramatic tool.
A bunch of educators trying to gang up on a student by making him look incompetent in class is such a bad tactic. It makes him sympathetic to his peers, and the teachers look petty. Worse, Ayan is actually good at memorization and recall, so he's embarrassing them.
It's sad that Akk is being boxed in by this teacher. Akk doesn't like seeing people get hurt, and he's being told repeatedly to ignore the pain of others, lest it befall him as well.
Notable how few ads we have with this show. Hope this isn't a bust for GMMTV.
Ayan looks legitimately tired here. Khaotung and the makeup team did a great job here.
Ayan's premise of understanding personally how this school attempts to break people down is compelling. I think what scares him and Akk is that it might actually be working. Ayan looks like he's taken a loss.
Wow, that was a good scene. The way First plays Akk's fear is fantastic. Really loving the dynamic between Akk and Ayan.
I tell ya. Post-it notes are an integral tool to Thai BL.
All of us who said Khaotung should be lead were correct. Cut the check.
I like the dynamic between the prefect boys as well. Akk and Kan have a very different rapport, and it's fun. I hope we see a version of them when they aren't repressed. How does First manage to pull this out of every scene partner?
The look of hurt and frustration from Aye when his mom didn't support him got me.
Kan suggests that Ayan might be meeting a lover, and that's what makes Akk decide they must go in the cafe. Oh, boys.
Okay, what is this actual cafe. @heretherebedork I'm pretty sure this is the same one used in Antique Bakery???
I appreciate that they used a lot of girls and femmes to show that this is a diverse cafe catering to a queer audience. There are enough boys in the show.
Mmm. I'm not sure I approve of Ayan thrusting Thua into this situation with Thua's mom.
I'm curious how Kan feels about not knowing that something was wrong with Thua, and that it was Ayan who helped him.
I'm presuming that the Uncle was queer, and now this whole school must burn for driving a gay uncle to death.
Khaotung is quite vascular.
Oh, I think I'd be more upset if the uncle wasn't queer, but took the time to help build up a queer support system for his nephew.
Loving this version of Thua that will tell Kan exactly what's going on.
I think they found Louis's angles. He looks gorgeous here.
I like Kan and Thua repairing their friendship a bit, but I don't think it's enough to ease the longing between them.
Not surprised that this school would like about Dika's death. Really fucked up that they let students think he was a traitor.
I sometimes struggle with the romance of pulling someone from getting struck by a vehicle, because the levels of car violence in Bangkok are alarmingly high.
That kiss is going to lead to nonromantic things. I'm concerned about Ayan taking a picture.
However, that lip bite from Ayan was affective.
Curious where we go next with this show.

001 gakuen alice
wow really! how random that u chose this manga that i dont even care about or whatever
001
Favorite character: tie with natsume and mikan! natsume has been my favorite since day one but even though it took me some time to love mikan as much, they rly are equal to me.
Least Favorite character: UGH like theres characters i hate, like esp and persona, but whose roles in the story i mostly appreciate. if theres a character im kinda meh abt, even regarding his role in the story........ maybe tono? lol i have no real outstanding feelings abt him
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): im assuming this is romantic? if so: natsume/mikan, hotaru/ruka, koko/sumire, tsubasa/misaki, narumi/misaki-sensei. but ill include nonromantic as well bc i want to: natsume&ruka, hotaru&subaru, mikan&yuka, main 4 as a friend group (which is what we deserved rather than the three of them barely interacting outside of their bond with mikan), and the special ability group (namely tsubasa and misaki with mikan)
Character I find most attractive: kaoru
Character I would marry: maybe yuka. shes the one i would most trust above all. definitely the Best adult in the series. and most sensible.
Character I would be best friends with: UGh maybe yuka again. i trust her the most. its also bizarre now that im closer with age to her than i am with the main characters lmao. yuka is underrated though
a random thought: i have a rudimentary understanding of how alices are sorted according to ability but im ngl i still have trouble comprehending why some of the special ability students arent in latent or somatic. i just accept that i wont understand and leave it at that.
An unpopular opinion: the ending being bad is NOT unpopular. my unpopular opinion is that im not a big fan of like the last 30-40 chapters in general, not just the last three. theres parts i like, but mostly i think it could have been better done. also i dont like that mikan got the stealing alice. i dont like that choice really. i hope that doesnt sound arrogant but honestly im tired so if it comes across that way oh well.
My Canon OTP: natsumikan... ahh im so lucky
My Non-canon OTP: tbh hotaru and ruka! my sister and i made a banger playlist for them and i have sobbed just thinking of their potential. i honestly rly dont care if ppl think theyre a random couple or a way to pair off the spares--i think theyd be a genuinely good match and their scenes together are to die for.
Most Badass Character: probably either natsume or yuka but that badassery also just makes me sad
Most Epic Villain: ew none (ga is not an example of media where i root for the villains lol)
Pairing I am not a fan of: this is such a vague prompt. ill just say that i resent when ppl make one character the character they "ship with everybody" (namely mikan) bc that character tends to be female and there tends to be some very suspect implications about her agency and role in the relationships, like its more abt other ppls interest in her than in her own feelings. im not saying ppl who multiship are all like that (and im sure most multishippers are entirely reasonable) but ive seen enough takes in that vein for it to really rub me the wrong way. i rly genuinely only ship mikan romantically with natsume.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): ugh i lowkey dont wanna fully answer this but ill give it a go. first idc abt persona redemption, especially if it comes at the cost of his victims' experiences, so like no. he couldve just maybe died or smth instead. ALSO as ive mentioned with her having the stealing alice, i think mikan's end was not really that great for her character. it bums me out.
Favourite Friendship: natsume and ruka hands down no contest. dont argue with me; i wont listen
Character I most identify with: ah a lot. natsume bc. child abuse victim with anger issues. ruka bc pervasive loneliness and feeling of being a burden. mikan bc god am i really good for nothing can i even offer anything? i hate this prompt its too personal
Character I wish I could be: none lol the choices are to be abused, abuse others, or both so none. maybe id be jii-chan, he truly is outside that whole mess.
if you would like to send me an ask for a character/ship/show or you'd like to rb the original post yourself, heres the link!

Boundaries
wow, just wow...
. Romantic relationships are, by nature, risky. Many singles who have not developed good attachments with other people and who have not had their boundaries respected try to learn the rules of biblical friendships by dating. They hope that the safety of these relationships will help them learn to love, be loved, and set limits.
Quite often, these individuals come out of a few months of dating more injured than when they went in. They may feel let down, put down, or used. This is not a dating problem. It’s a problem in understanding the purpose of dating.
The purpose of dating is to practice and experiment. The end goal of dating is generally to decide, sooner or later, whether or not to marry. Dating is a means to find out what kind of person we complement and with whom we are spiritually and emotionally compatible. It’s a training ground for marriage.
This fact causes a built-in conflict. When we date, we have the freedom to say, at any time, “This isn’t working out,” and to end the relationship. The other person has the same freedom.
What does this mean for the person whose boundaries have been injured? Often, she brings immature, undeveloped aspects of her character to an adult romantic situation. In an arena of low commitment and high risk, she seeks the safety, bonding, and consistency that her wounds need. She entrusts herself too quickly to someone whom she is dating because her needs are so intense. And she will be devastated when things “don’t work out.”
This is a little like sending a three-year-old to the front lines of battle. Dating is a way for adults to find out about each other’s suitability for marriage; it’s not a place for young, injured souls to find healing. This healing can best be found in nonromantic arenas, such as support groups, church groups, therapy, and same-sex friendships. We need to keep separate the purposes of romantic and nonromantic friendships.
It’s best to learn the skill of setting boundaries in these non- romantic arenas, where the attachments and commitments are greater. Once we’ve learned to recognize, set, and keep our bib- lical boundaries, we can use them on the adult playground called dating.
2. Setting limits in romance is necessary. Individuals with mature boundaries sometimes suspend them in the initial stages of a dating relationship in order to please the other person. However, truth-telling in romance helps define the relationship. It helps each person to know where he starts and the other person stops.
Ignorance of one another’s boundaries is one of the most blatant red flags of the poor health of a dating relationship. We’ll ask a couple in premarital counseling, “Where do you disagree? Where do you lock horns?” When the answer is, “It’s just amaz- ing, we’re so compatible, we have very few differences,” we’ll give the couple homework: Find out what you’ve been lying about to each other. If the relationship has any hope, that assign- ment will generally help.

Smiles with a Christmas Kiss
Merry Christmas @professorerudite
Summary: Dean and Cas are left behind in the bunker on Christmas Eve. A regular movie day is planned but it slowly becomes a lot more.
It’s Christmas Eve and the bunker was quiet. It was just him and his best friend in this big place, their footsteps echoed the halls like no other time before. When it was just him and Sam the place always felt okay. It was home and it was nice but with Cas - finally human and finally staying - the place felt warm. It was a damn home again.
Jack followed Sam and Eileen on a holiday trip to Ireland. Of course, Dean had to refuse. Thinking of the long plane ride alone was making him feel sick. Though he insisted Cas should tag along with them - go see the world and all that jazz - he didn’t budge. Insisting he just wants to stay in the bunker.
Dean didn’t argue. It was nice not to be alone during the holiday season but at the same time, he hoped Cas didn’t stay behind just for him. Dean would have done what he always did for Christmas. Go to a bar full of lonely people and find someone, or someone’s, to have some fun holiday party on a motel bed.
Well, that’s what he would like to think he would have done, heck maybe a long time ago he would have done just that, but now it’s different. He hasn’t gone to a bar looking to hook up with anyone in years and he wasn’t going to start now. After throwing excuse after excuse at himself about why his libido just went into a downward spiral, fighting God and all that shit really wasn’t a good excuse for him apparently, it all came down to one angel. Well, person now.
“Good morning, Dean.” Cas walked into the kitchen, dragging his bunny slippers across the cold floor and towards the coffee machine.
Dean watched as Cas poured himself a big mug full and then sat across from him on the kitchen table to join him. Dean already had the sugar and creamer on the table, prepared for Cas who always gets up a few minutes after him.
As soon as he took a sip he smiled into his mug and Dean rested his chin on the palm of his hand as he watched. Enjoying the way Cas’s eyes crinkle at the side when he smiled with his eyes closed. He even shivered just a little as the hot drink ran down his body, holding the hot mug in between both his hands and close to his face.
“Morning, Sunshine.” Dean finally tells him as Cas placed his mug down on the table to smile back at him.
He could live like this for the rest of his life. As much as Dean wanted more, he was okay with this. Having Cas like this. Seeing him like this. Shaggy hair that curls up at the tips and stubble that was already too long but must feel so good against Dean’s skin. Cas’s baggy sweatpants that fall too low on his hips and Dean’s old band tees that were exclusively worn for sleep cling to his muscled frame.
Cas was just art that he could enjoy looking at but not touch. At least not the way he dreams to touch.
A happy sigh escapes Cas’s lips as he rolls his shoulders back and reaches for the untouched toast on Dean’s plate. “Merry Christmas Eve by the way.” He took a bite of the toast with butter and then made a face before he reached for the jam. Sweet tooth. He took another bite before he started talking with his mouth full. “I know you don’t celebrate but I still hope we can watch that movie you wanted to show me.”
Dean hummed in response as he sat up straighter, reaching for his coffee to have his hands do something. “We can do that.”
“Which reminds me we also need to go grocery shopping. We’re running low on supplies.”
“Cookies?”
“Exactly.” Cas winked at him.
Dean laughed and it always felt like he was floating when it was Cas who made him laugh. Yeah, he can live like this. If he can have these mornings everyday then he can live with Cas as his friend.
Grocery shopping took a while even though the place was mostly empty. Dean had a list and Cas kept ignoring it to add random junk he wanted to taste. Some of the stuff Dean hasn’t even tasted himself, “Then we can experience it together.” Was all Cas said and Dean couldn’t argue with him on that.
“What do people do on Christmas Eve?” Cas asked when they walked back to the car to load the groceries. “That child looked at us with pity when we told him we didn’t have any plans for today.”
“Dude, how am I supposed to know?”
“You know more than me.”
“The last real Christmas I had - I was three, Cas.” Dean opened the trunk of the Impala to start stuffing the bags. “Plus, I’m pretty sure that I imagine all those happy memories I had with my Mom and Dad.”
“I’m sure some were real, Dean.” Cas placed the last of the bags in the trunk as he looked at him with a small smile. Pity smile. “You’re Mother loved you so I’m sure she would have done her best to give you-”
“Cas,” Dean sighed as he closed the trunk with a loud thud. “I just want to watch some movies and sit on the couch with you and a tray full of nachos. I don’t want to psychoanalyze my childhood.”
“Ah.” Cas nodded, another smile. This one was softer and warmer. A smile that felt reserved for just Dean. Cas’s cheeks were even rosy from the cold wind piercing through their many layers. “Understood. I’ll take the cart back and you start the car then.”
Dean watched Cas walk away, scratching the back of his head when he saw him walk back into the grocery store. He was going to go after him but decided to do what he was told and just start the car. Maybe they needed a quick getaway.
Cas returned a few moments later with nothing in his hands.
“Dude, what the hell?”
Cas just shrugged and put his hands up to the heater. “Thank you for waiting for me.”
That was the only response he knew he was going to get from his angel - oh wow! Not his. Not even a damn angel anymore.
Dean drove them home while Cas turned on the radio. Tapping his fingers on his knee to the beat of the music. Dean wondered how Cas would react if he just reached over and twined their hands together but instead he gripped the steering wheel tighter.
It was already late when Dean called Cas over to watch the movie. He was going to go with Die Hard, his childhood Christmas movie he watched with Dad, but Dean had a feeling that Cas wanted a movie where it was actually about Christmas. So he picked his other childhood Christmas movie. A Christmas Story.
Cas walked in, his blanket already in tow, and took a seat on one end of the couch. Dean sat on the other with the nachos tray right in between them. Cas sat with his legs crossed and tucked into a corner, almost facing Dean, while he reached into the food before the movie even began to play.
“So you watched this as a kid?” Cas said, mouth full and head tilted as Dean settled on his side of the couch.
“Yup.” Was all Dean said as he handed Cas a beer and pressed play.
It was only the first few minutes when Ralph walked in with a full cowboy getup that Cas laughed and when he met Dean’s curious eyes, enjoying every second of that rare laugh. Cas pointed at Ralph and then him. “Dean that’s you.” He laughed harder as soon as the words left his mouth and Dean hit him with a pillow.
The nachos were moved to the table in front of them, where Dean had his feet propped up.
Cas continued to make little comments as the movie went on.
“Ah, reminds me of that whoopee cushion prank you did on me.” Cas noted as he took a sip of beer.
“All of that for a damn tongue on a pole?” Cas sounded so annoyed that Dean spits out his beer laughing.
They somehow moved closer on the couch with every little comment Cas made. From the mention of yellow eyes. To ask what was put in Ralph’s mouth after he said fudge. (“Dude he said fuck.” “So? You say it all the time.” “I’m a grown man.” “Oh. Children can’t say it?”)
As soon as Ralph said son of a bitch Cas was somehow already shoulder to shoulder with Dean. He laughed, his shoulders shaking, before turning to look at Dean with that big smile again. Dean never thought anybody could look as beautiful as Cas did when he grinned at him like that.
“Dean, I told you that’s you.” He smiled and Dean didn’t have it in him to argue, even as a joke. Instead, he nodded, smiling back at Cas, while his grinch heart grew three sizes.
This was supposed to be a safe nonromantic movie but Dean hasn’t watched it in a while. He forgot the ending when the parents sat in the dark, just like they were in now, and enjoyed the snow falling. With only the Christmas lights shining.
A few years ago he wouldn’t have thought it was romantic - there was no kissing or grunting in this scene what so ever- but the soft touches is what he craves now. He was already so close to Cas as it is. Feeling the warmth radiate off his best friend while his blanket was now over both their laps, he doesn’t even remember when that happened.
He was already so close. Dean could turn his head and his nose could be buried in Cas’s hair, the smell of nature still follows Cas around, and he could hold him. Hold him like he has always wanted to hold Cas, with no immediate danger or death hanging over them. He just wanted to hold Cas because he wanted to hold him. No reason.
Cas leaned into him a little more, untucking his feet from underneath him so he could lay them flat on the ground. Dean noticed every fidget of Cas’s fingers and he wondered if Cas was uncomfortable with the closeness but then in a sudden move Cas had an arm around Dean’s shoulders. Cas cleared his throat as he squeezed Dean’s shoulder closer to him - trying to act like this was a normal thing for them- while Dean stared at him with wide eyes.
Dean couldn’t find the words. He wanted to say some dumb joke or push Cas off but he stopped himself. Instead, he relaxed under the touch and leaned into it.
“Oh, um, the movie ended.” Cas cleared his throat while he started to pull his hand away.
“I’ll, um, I’ll just - let me pick another one.” Dean reached for the remote and picked a random movie in the Christmas category and pressed play. Then he leaned back into the couch again and Cas’s arm was around him again.
Dean doesn’t remember how many movies they watched that night or how he ended up falling asleep on a couch too small to hold two grown men. But he didn’t care because now he had Cas’s fingers making small circles on his back and the touch was so gentle.
“Merry Christmas, Dean.” Cas must have known he woke up.
So Dean folded his arms over Cas’s chest and looked down at him. He could feel the dumb smile on his mouth. “Merry Christmas, Cas.”
“I know it’s customary to give gifts now.” Cas started reaching for something on the floor while Dean opened his mouth to argue but Cas looked at him with those just-shut-up-Dean raised eyebrows so he listened. “It’s something small I got at the grocery store so I’m sorry it’s not something you may want but I believe you deserve a Christmas gift, Dean.”
They both sat up when Cas pulled out a small shiny gift bag with a Christmas tree right out front. Dean wondered when Cas even had time to get this or sneak it in as he sat crisscross back on the couch while Cas copied him. Handing over the present with a wry smile.
“I didn’t even get you anything, Cas.” Dean started saying, hesitant to get the present.
Cas shrugged. “You can make it up to me later. Now take it.”
Dean took it and it didn’t even have tissue paper to hide what was inside. Dean laughed as he pulled out a few Reese’s shaped like a Christmas tree, some DVD of a movie he hasn’t even heard of so it must be new, and a gift card for Dominos pizza.
“These are great, Cas.” Dean laughed looking down at his gifts. “Looks like you already planned our next date night.”
“I did?” Cas looked down at his presents before looking back at Dean with wide eyes. “Date night?”
“I mean, only if you want to-”
“I want to!” Cas quickly leaned into Dean’s space again and he probably didn’t mean to lean in so close but Dean was also not thinking as he met him halfway to press their lips together. It was just a quick kiss before they pulled apart.
Dean didn’t say anything as they sat back on their seats. Staring at anything but each other.
Cas cleared his throat. “Was that my Christmas gift?”
Dean chuckled. “Yeah, I’m cheap.”
“Can I have another gift then?” Cas asked, leaning his head down so he could catch Dean’s downward gaze. He was blushing -fuck he was blushing- as he smiled at him again and Dean was taken back to that morning. Where he thought that he could live with just having that smile in his life but now he knows how that smile felt against his own.
Dean only nodded once before Cas fell back into him. Their lips smashing together into a grinning kiss, teeth smacking together, as Dean wrapped his arms around Cas’s waist to pull him closer. Then he pulled away just enough to kiss Cas again, slowly as he took everything in. Cas’s weight on his lap. Cas’s fingers on his face while he held the back of his neck. The soft noises Cas kept making at the back of his throat as they moved against each other that was making Dean crazy.
He can have this. Can have Cas and it was a damn Christmas miracle that Cas was dumb enough to want Dean the same way. And fuck his stubble did feel great against his skin.
“Merry Christmas, Cas.” Dean said when they pulled apart to breathe, their foreheads touching.
Cas grinned, a small laugh shook his body and Dean felt every shake that was in his arms. “Merry Christmas, Dean.”
Thanks @destielsecretsanta2020 for this fun project!

Nosy question time: what is your favourite dynamic on SHL at the moment? (romantic or nonromantic)
Oh wow, okay, wow that doesn’t have just one answer because I love so many of the dynamics in SHL.
ZZS and WKX of course, omg, the softness, the snarkiness, how easy they fit. The sibling energy radiating from Ah Xiang and Ling Cheng.
WKX and YBY crack me up every time, also is ZZS plus being healthy and alive a thing? Would love that dynamic XD
And of course, all the family feels between ZZS/WKX and their bunch of adopted people.

I’ve managed to catch up with the Promised Neverland, wow it’s definitely one of my favorite mangas. It’s unfortunate that I’m not in the mood for animanga nowadays, it’d be awesome to obsess over and analyze. Although I watched the anime, I wasn’t that into it, maybe I’ll rewatch it later.
Last week, I read like fifty chapters in two days so I’m just going to write random thoughts.
I just love Ray, he’s definitely my favorite. 💕💕💕
He reminds me a little bit of Killua, I’m sure it has to be more than just the voice, maybe it’s the traumas.

Aww

But why are they so huge? but aren’t they just 13?
--
So his name is Hyugo or Yugo, anyways I really like him. Lucas is awesome too. I love these two, I would have loved to see more of them.
The battle in goldy pond was perfection, I’d love to see it animated.
Tumblr media
Lucas, in this moment I loved you and was glad to see you as much as these kids did..😢
Tumblr media
 No, don’t say it.. 😢😢😢
Tumblr media
I’m so sad, honestly, when Yugo appeared in Emma’s dream I still hoped that he’s alive -even though it’s obvious that it’s not real since he was injured before. I was just desperate, you guys have my admiration.
Tumblr media
*Pretends to dramatically wipe tears* I’m so glad. 🥺
Gilda has become gorgeous.
----
I kept on imaging Andrew with Furuya Tooru’s voice, probably because he looks so much like Amuro/Rei.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some shonen details.
Tumblr media
--------
The first time I saw the coat, I thought it’s a demon helping them.
Tumblr media
---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Norman probably feels that Emma is so pure for him to touch her with his dirty hands.
He must feel disgusted by what he had to become.
That and he can’t accept her nonromantic sympathy/emotions as of now, even though nothing would have made him happier two years ago.

Tumblr media
I want more of this, please.. 🥰

Eddie
how i feel about this character: i looove eddie omg, he’s soso complex, his inner monologues are so cute and fun to read, like his mind just goes so deep if that makes sense?? and i love that SK gave him all these cute little skills, like he’s great with cars and directions, like i love those little details. also what a badass, that kid/man loves his friends wow
all the people i ship him with romantically: honestly outside of ot7 just richie
nonromantic otp: bill!
unpopular opinion: i don’t actually know if this is unpopular or not but i find eddie kind of difficult to write bc SK made him so complex that i struggle to encompass all of that in my fics
one thing i wish would happen/had happened in canon: i wish he’d been able to recognize and explore his sexuality ): like obviously i’d love for him to live happily ever after with richie ideally, but also i just wish he could’ve broken free in his 20s and really given himself time to get to know himself
thanks for the ask!!

from ATLA: toph and suki. from odyssey: kyra and odessa.
Ok I am back from work to answer these and I will insert a read more since it’s for 4 of my babies
The ATLA Gals:
Toph
How I feel about her
Girl she is my queen and I love her so much. If I’m not lightning shooty rooty tooty Azula, I am Toph. Bless.
People I romantically ship with her
Rocks and metal lmao
Nonromantic OTP
Sokka, Aang, Zuko, pretty much the gaang
Unpopular opinion
None?? lol I am not digging in my brain too much haha
One thing I wish would have happened
She needed a duel scene with Azula 1v1
Suki
How I feel about her
She is also a kick ass queen
People I romantically ship with her
Sokka duh
Nonromantic OTP
Katara cause Katara wanted another girly girl in the squad lol
AND I LOVE THAT SHE TOOK CARE OF APPA WHEN HE WAS LOST OMG
Unpopular opinion
Idk if this is unpopular because I haven’t followed the ATLA crowd for a while, but Suki looks better without the Kiyoshi makeup and I stan her for fending off the Azula squad cause we know they are ruthless
One thing I wish would have happened
She also needed a duel 1v1 with Azula. Everyone needs to fight Azula cause Azula wants to fight everyone oof
The Odyssey Squad:
Kyra
How I feel about her
WOW OK I LOVE HER, duh. I am so gay for her. The knife scene, the way she looks at Kass ugh. Clexa vibes lmao flashbacks from the old fandom days.
People I romantically ship with her
Kassandra of course
Thaletas?? More like a they once were a couple but decided they were better off as best friends
Kyra/Anthousa would be too much power
Nonromantic OTP
Thaletas, Alexios, Myrrine (they would both embarrass Kass lol(
Unpopular opinion
I hate that you have to force Thaletas and Kyra to cheat on each other if you want to romance either of them, but also they have a great romance line in the game and I am a hoe for them both. I also have to wonder how “qualified” she is to lead a rebellion and a Mykonos post Podarkes?? I guess every chic in a rebellion plot is just that, a chic in rebellion.
One thing I wish would have happened
UM THAT YOU GET TO RECRUIT KYRA AND LIVE A BIG GREEK SAPPHO POEM WITH HER ON THE ADRESTIA DUHHHH
(Also a way to romance her without stabbing Thalety in the back metaphorically and physically)
Odessa
How I feel about her
I think she is a cool but tbh her attitude on Ithaka is ANNOYING.
People I romantically ship with her
One of the many gays on the Adrestia
GELON (sailor gfs)
Nonromantic OTP
Alexios. On my new game plus Alexios run, I am playing him as a big gentle life coach for all the distressed lesbians and he does a cute job of trying to inspire her and cheer her up. He is basically Thor.
Unpopular opinion
I only romanced her cause she was the first romance option. The second time I even questioned if it was worth saving her from the city guard cause tbh I think she is a tad guilty LOL
One thing I wish would have happened
More interaction with the recruits on the Adrestia
And that is that on that, thank you for asking!

Break down Rox and Efy please 👀
thanks for the ask! sorry it took me so long to get to though
Rox
ok first of all I want to say that I haven't played lws1 (until April 19th wooo) or Icebrood Saga, and I haven't finished lws4 yet, so I feel like I'm missing a lot of the good Rox content. I also have a really bad memory so I had to read through her wiki page for this, because I only played lws2/3 when the Seasons of the Dragon release dropped. basically what I'm saying is, take everything I say with a big grain of salt
how I feel about this character
I like Rox, I think she's cool, but honestly for the reasons above, I tend to forget about her. sorry Rox you deserve better
romantic ships
I only have a couple of ships with canon characters, and Rox isn't one of them. I might have one in the future if I get a bit more interested in charr lore? but honestly it's never compelled me that much, it's cool but I just find norn/asura/sylvari especially more interesting to write stories with. does that make sense it's 3:30am lmao
nonromantic OTP
obvious answer here, but Braham. they care each other :)
unpopular opinion
hmm I'm not really sure what would be considered an unpopular opinion. but I think anet... maybe weren't sure what to do with Rox? maybe I just haven't played it yet, and I'm definitely forgetting something, but it feels like she was written off to the side quite a bit before she was officially written out.
what I wish had happened
once again I've probably missed/forgotten it, but I wish Rox could've had her time in focus before she was put on a bus. every other member of Dragon's Watch had something, and for Rox... I just can't think of what that was for her
Efalynn
how I feel about this character
anyone who's followed me for even a short time will know I adore Efy. I talk about her A Lot, and she's my main by about 500hrs. but also I just really enjoy the way she's written as a game character? I think the story anet is telling with any Commander is really interesting, and I haven't seen anything like it in another story. I Especially love it as an ex-WoW player (that was Many years ago now, but that's beside the point)
romantic ships
so I haven't talked about them much yet, but Efalynn has a queerplatonic partner named Kallisto! I created her very recently in game, but she's been in my character list for a couple months before that. Kallisto is a trans lesbian sylvari, a guardian, and eventually the Commander alongside Efalynn before they both decide to retire and settle down. I haven't got concrete lore for Kallisto yet because currently I think she shows up around the end of lws4 (which. yeah no I still haven't played it since the start of this post), but I care her anyways
nonromantic OTP
Trahearne. my beloved salad boy. I've written about it before but Efalynn and Trahearne cared a lot for each other, he mentored her in necromancy during the personal story and Efalynn definitely thinks of him as her brother.
also Ffoirre, one of my other OCs. they're really good friends, even if they don't get to see each other often. Ffoirre definitely came to Cantha when he heard Efalynn was injured in the crash, and I think he'd be happy to stick around somewhere vaguely nearby if Efalynn and Kallisto decide to settle down in Cantha.
unpopular opinion
well uh. she's my OC so. N/A I guess
something I wish would happen/had happened
see above. the things I'm considering happening 1) between Icebrood Saga and EoD, and 2) after EoD, are still up in the air. but no matter what I decide, I can always AU about it

elementary spoilers below the cut
AAAAAAAAAAA, that was such a rollercoaster of a finale. I am Exhausted and Jangly and What Even!
I have mentioned throughout this season that I love the direction that they’ve taken Sherlock and Joan’s relationship in, and I think the moment where Sherlock asks Joan if she did it, and is so obviously broadcasting ‘that’s okay I just need to know’ [and then of course says that] is one of those moments. Just in the sense of trust, I guess; I trust that you did what was right and will back you up on it is... a hell of a thing in any sort of relationship.
Also, I kind of find the ending hilarious, because I was watching the climax like ‘does Sherlock not have a concept of planes or skype???’, and then the very end kind of hilariously confirmed that.
wait, did they get married to get a visa? I really don’t want it to turn out that the writers are teasing romance (I think ‘we’re two people who love each other’ in a nonromantic relationship is a big and beautiful thing to see, so I hope it is that and not Suddenly Romance), but I would actually find it completely hilarious if they had gotten married to get Joan a visa. (I mention this because honestly I’m having a hard time figuring out how else she might have gotten one, if they’re still loosely-based consultants.)
there was entirely too much angry shouting in this episode for me; I don’t think it was unjustified (there was in fact a lot at stake), but wow my heart rate needs to chill. I admit that Sherlock’s side of this whole... shouting... endeavour was a lot more understandable, but I’m also a bit ‘sounds fake but okay’ about someone caring that much about their adult daughter. which isn’t the fault of the show, of course; it’s just that I think that’s a lot more societally acceptable, so they assume that we’ll get the emotional weight of that from a few episodes, as opposed to six seasons of building up how friends might care for each other.
(plus, I think that it’s not amazingly well-thought-through for Hannah to be sympathetic here; I mean obviously a lot is set up for her to be sympathetic but I don’t really think that tapping into the connotations of police violence was actually a good idea there; for me at least it means I went from ‘vaguely sympathetic’ to ‘cool motive but you absolutely cannot be allowed to continue as a cop’, which felt... not quite like the reaction that they wanted.)
thank goodness we already know there’s another season!
