Becoming a mother has always been really important to all of us. Being autistic, we tried to map our future adult life out from a very young age. This made us feel safe but also created anxiety because we could only ever see one way of living our life and we worried we would not manage to get married and would not manage to have children. The thought of not getting married and not having children was intolerable for us. Our only option was to get married and have children and we had no awareness that there are different ways to live, that people can choose to not get married and to not have children. We only ever saw one way to be. #autisticselves #autisticDID #actuallyautistic #actuallyDID #actuallydissociative #actuallyDID #motherhood #beingamum #dissociativeidentitydisorder #autism #autistic #womenonthespectrum #adultautism #havingchildren #marriage https://www.instagram.com/p/CO5-AtQMzzK/?igshid=1jxlxcefhkf22

#Repost @i_am_as_i_do (@get_repost) ・・・ Very true for me. Why can't you do it? I just can't. At least now I have a diagnosis and can learn to accept myself for MY strengths and challenges that are unique to ME instead of taking on all the things that are said to me from well meaning non disabled people. Before diagnosis I would just try so so hard to live up to expectations of 'normal people' that I would end up feeling suicidal because I had no idea why I couldn't just do things like them or do things with such ease like it came naturally. And because people are so unaware of autism spectrum conditions in females...so unaware even the psychologists I'd been seeing for years and years didn't know and probably still don't. It was a terrible thing to know I couldn't just 'be like everyone else' but not knowing why. A lifetime of constantly being dismissed as lazy, shy, unmotivated, mentally ill, not trying hard enough! I have to try about 10x harder to do the things that you can just do and to brush off the things that you can brush off. Life does not come naturally to me in the same way it might for you. #autisticwoman #autisticadult #aspergirl #Aspergers #autismawareness #womenonthespectrum

I tell all women diagnosed with bipolar, borderline personality disorder, adhd, and/or ocd to look into the possibility of being on the spectrum because most drs won't even bring up the possibility of a diagnosis to you. You have to BE YOUR OWN AVOCATE!!!! #asdwomen, #autisticwomen #womenonthespectrum
