succubus-theodora:
“Please, you say sociopath like it’s a bad thing?” Theodora purred seductively to her victim, giving a low chuckle as she relaxed herself back in the spot that she’d perched herself in, keeping the poor human she’d caught pinned to the floor beneath her designer stiletto. The red head grinned when she noted someone new before her. “Hm. Now, tell Mommy why you’ve come and interrupted her in such a pivotal moment of discipline?” she pouted, pressing her foot down to make the human squeal out in pain.

“Mommy? Seriously?” Heading back home after his shift at the Pits, Isaac definitely hadn’t been planning on stumbling into this mess. He hadn’t forgotten the event months ago, the one where she’d gotten it into her head to make him her play thing for the night. She’d succeeded in bending him to her will too, and though he knew on some level that he never stood a chance against her powers, it still left a sour taste in his mouth. “Didn’t think you were the type,” he added, his gaze straying to the human beneath her foot for a moment though his expression remained impassive. “Let me guess, nothing better to do?”

Isaac was in a mood, and while that wasn’t exactly anything new for him, the reason behind it was. It’d been a long, long time since he’d cared about another person in any capacity, and if that wasn’t bad enough, now he found himself concerned for them too. For someone who’d managed not to make any connections with anyone for years, it was enough to make him sick to his stomach. Isaac had only been claimed for a relatively short time, and yet it seemed like everyone had something to say about it. He wasn’t one to give a flying fuck about what others said about him, but apparently things were different when the subject of the distain was Sal.
Curled up on the living room couch under a heavy blanket, Isaac was silently brooding, staring unseeingly at the tv in front of him. He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t notice he wasn’t alone until Salazar stepped into his line of vision. “You’re home,” he said by way of greeting, the tension in his broad shoulders easing off a little at the sight of the man, “I thought you said you wouldn’t be back until late,” he added, not having realized that it was late and he’d just spent his evening sulking.

austinxadams:
Austin shrugged his shoulders a little bit. “What does a jigsaw puzzle really look like?” he smirked. He moved forward just a little bit, and cocked his head to the side a bit. “I’m just trying to figure out what the purpose is, I guess..” he shrugged. “For claiming in general, let alone a human..” He smirked a little bit more. “Surely, you’re not surprised by the curiosity.”
Tumblr media
Isaac pressed his lips together as he regarded the other, arms crossed tightly over his chest. “Aren’t you a Superior? You’re telling me you don’t understand why your sort claim slaves?’ he asked incredulously, blowing out a breath. He understood the curiosity yes, especially with him being a human and Sal being who he was, but he didn’t appreciate having to deal with it constantly. “If you don’t want to claim a human, then don’t claim a human. Simple as that. There’s nothing to figure out.”

hound-las:
“Oh yeah, been a real great time of things…I got gold in the murder Olympics for sure” she said proudly, not caring at all about the fact he was being sarcastic. “I reckon that you do, deep down. Humans are weirdly emotional and hung up on shit like that” she shrugged, giving a wicked little grin. “Yeah, he might be a supreme but people sure aren’t looking at him like one anymore because of the weird claim he has with you.” she hummed “Not how it works, we bond and we claim. We have an actual connection, what do you have? You can’t even feel your guy. A hound a demon are never alone when bonded” she mused “I enjoy doing jobs for him, so I don’t get your point. Hounds are made for a reason and I’m proud to stand for that”
At that point there was very little the woman could say that’d actually shock him, so when she mentioned her prowess at murdering people, Isaac only sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Between the two of us, you’re the only one who’s coming off as wildly emotional, lady, how many times were you dropped on your head when you were a kid? Or puppy or whatever the hell you were,” he asked, half serious, half taunting. “And Sal doesn’t give a flying fuck what an unhinged mutt or anyone else thinks of him. He’s still the Supreme. And he can still wipe the floor with your crazy ass and have your Master watch while he does it.” Eyes hard, Issac stared across at the woman. He knew he didn’t need to defend Salazar, that the Witch stood by his decision to claim him and didn’t care what others thought- and yet there was a part of him that was pissed off that people would question Sal’s position and sanity just because of him. “So glad that your magical connection is fulfilling your life’s purpose or whatever,” he said sarcastically as he got to his feet, towering over the other with his willowy height as he dug out a crumpled bill from his pocket and tucked it under his milkshake glass, “now why don’t you run along back to your Master like a good pet, yea? He might need you to fetch the newspaper or something.”

kaindrorrenth:
“Perhaps, but ‘what’ is hardly an appropriate way to address a superior - even less so a councilmember.” It’s possible he hadn’t noticed who Kain was before blurting the question out, but he would do well to think before speaking in that case. While the boy might use his proper title, the defiance in him was obvious. Kaindrorrenth had hoped upon hearing that Salazar had claimed a human, that it would be a slave with proper manners. Someone submissive who knew their place. What a great disappointment the boy in front of him was. “And what would I have to say to you?” he wondered, raising an eyebrow. “I have more respect for vermin than I do for you. Though I must admit - I am curious what the great supreme see in you. Tell me, do you grow to be a meek, little bitch around him?”
Tumblr media
“Sorry about that. Guess my parents weren’t alive long enough to teach me good manners,” he replied dryly, walking that thin line between being civil and bratty- it really wasn’t his forte, and he almost hated Salazar for making him even consider playing nice. That task was made infinitely harder when the Councilman continued to go on about how he didn’t respect him, and Isaac had to try really hard not to roll his eyes. “I don’t know how well you know Salazar, but he isn’t the kind of man who needs to surround himself with weaker people to make himself feel more powerful,” he said with a pointed look at the other man, “and I’m not the kind of guy to pretend to be something I’m not, so no. I’m not a little bitch with him or anyone else, Your Grace.”

astraxgorgon:
What was sanity even when having been alone for as long as Astra had? The only company she had for the longest time had been the snakes on her head and the statues she created. “Oh, I’m sure they won’t, they’ll know a mistake has been made, cause I’ll make sure they know. Us Gorgons need to stick together as we are quite rare, mostly thanks to your pathetic kind.” Astra said with a little grin on her face, vengeance would be so very sweet. “So that should answer the art project subject, you’d even make a fine statue. So yes, he was pretty and I already had in mind how I wanted him to be turned to perfection in stone. He was mine to have but they wanted him for this city.” She laughed at his statement. “Oh that I actually am, or I wouldn’t have been safe for so long from your kind, who wants nothing more than to take my head. I’m not blaming everyone else, not all, I blame humans, for not leaving me nor my family alone. You’re lucky you wear a collar.” She stated, she’d definitely have fun with this one before he would be turned into stone to be with her forever.
Tumblr media
“Right. Well, I hope that works out for you lady. And when it doesn’t, at least you’ve got that ego to keep you warm in the Gutters,” he responded dryly, watching the woman through shaded eyes. Isaac was generally more of a fighter than a talker, and he’d lashed out with his fists fo far less than the attitude this woman was giving him. But his mother would have his ass from beyond the grave for putting his hands on a woman like that, and so he for the most part tried to control himself. Those bets were off if the woman put her hands on him first, but at least in that case he was sure his mother would see that he tried. Isaac didn’t react outwardly when the woman mentioned she was a Gorgon, though he did recall that they had a love for turning things into stone. Art project, now it made sense. “Did you forget that you wear a collar too? Last time I checked that means you’ve got about as much power as I do right now,” he pointed out, crossing his arms over his chest. “And you are blaming humans for your miserable life. Yet you’re in a cell and collared because of your own kind- maybe you need to do some re-evaluating, huh.”

familiarxmariana:
The man tucking his collar away made Mariana snap out of it even more and she let out a breath, swallowing as she tried to ignore the blush she felt still on her face (or the other emotions swirling inside herself). When he apologized Mari just exhaled again and shook her head, trying to make her expression more neutral again, slipping on the mask of politeness she had on all day every day while at work. “It’s alright, no need to apologize.” she assured him softly, and when he mentioned only having enough for the one drink she bit her lip but took the answer. “I–yeah. Yeah, Mariana.” she confirmed with a nod before motioning to the menu, trying to stamp down everything going on in that silly head of hers. “And really..if you want some fries or something, Sal has a standing tab with me here. And I’m sure he wouldn’t want you not eating if you were hungry.”
Tumblr media
“Isaac,” he said once she’d confirmed her own name, unsure of whether she remembered it or not. When she mentioned the tab, he let out a short laugh, running a hand through the messy curls atop his head. “Of course he does. I’m just- I don’t know, still getting used to all...this,” he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck, his gaze on the empty milkshake cup. He’d been a slave and alone since he was just barely a teen, and that meant he’d never had much money- which wasn’t unheard of, most people in the Gutters didn’t have much to their name, but Isaac had gotten used to scraping by. Had gotten used to depending on himself and only himself. Just because he was claimed now and had access to more money than he knew what to do with didn’t necessarily mean he was ready to use it. He was going to turn down the offer again, but right at that moment his stomach let out an embarrassingly loud growl, and he could feel himself flush in response. “Um. Maybe just some fries? Could you, I dunno, start a tab for me too or something? I should have a little more cash after my shift tomorrow, I’ll come by and pay it off.”

“I mean, I get you wouldn’t understand because you’re all human garbage and all that. But down in Hell we got medals for what we did and it made us heroes. Beats whatever you’ve ever done I’m sure?” she shrugged “Oh yeah? Well, I have other things to do with my master, but I can’t be round him all the time and I like to get my kicks, can’t shame a gal for that. I’m sure I’m having ay more fun than your sitting around, trying to look brooding? Looks super lame on you” she pointed out, only grinning when his stare darkened “You didn’t have to, but everyones thinking it, because claiming a human is like such a waste of time. You don’t even live long and you couldn’t even fight to keep your world, you’re like the ultimate symbol of….Lame” she said simply, tilting her head. “I got claimed by a strong and powerful demon who puts me to good use, tearing out the souls of worthless sub creatures like yourself. What do you do for the idiot that claimed you?” she scoffed “Not a damn lot, that’s for sure?”
At the expected response, Isaac rolled his eyes and sank lower in his seat, sipping from his milkshake. “Congratulations on doing so well in the Murder Olympics, lady,” he replied dryly, in the back of his mind wondering how he always seemed to attract the particularly crazy ones. When he mentioned that he looked lame, Isaac actually laughed, leaning forward to brace his forearms on the table. “Well then I guess we’re both lucky I don’t give a flying fuck what you think of me, huh?” The woman was clearly a Hellhound, based off what she’d been going on about, and he could almost even remember her face from the Gutters. Almost. He was hardly one to pay attention. “And I got claimed by the Supreme, what is this a fucking competition?” he asked her incredulously, rolling his eyes again. “Sounds a whole lot like you were only claimed for what you could do for your precious Demon. I wonder what’ll happen when they find someone who can do it better,” he taunted, a smirk on his lips, “sounds like your Demon just wants someone to do the job- and I’m sure there are plenty of you around. Guess it’s just a matter of time, hmm?”

Austin hadn’t mean to be staring. He was just trying to figure it out. He wasn’t really sure about all this claim stuff in general, let alone the fact that the rumors were going around about this human in particular. He was watching him, had gotten lost in his own thoughts, and before he knew it, he was being called out on all of it. He chuckled a little bit and shook his head. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to stare. I just was trying to put all the puzzle pieces together, I guess you could say.” He sighed a little bit, rubbing the back of his neck.
Tumblr media
The answer, though it came with an apology, didn’t do anything to help Isaac’s frustration with the situation he found himself in, and he blew out a heavy breath as he ran his fingers through his curls. “Do I look like a jigsaw puzzle to you or something?” he asked, not raising his voice but making his displeasure very clear nonetheless. It wasn’t even personal at that point, he’d just had enough of being gawked at and whispered about- over a claim no less. “What could you possibly need to figure out?”

“Hey I’ve earned the right for my head to be up my ass, I’m a war hero and a decorated soldier. What have you done?” She scoffed, happily giving a pose. Las was easily more obnoxious now that she was claimed. “I have a lot to do, but as a hound I’m never going to pass up a moment to fuck with a human.” She teased “Heard you got made a witch’s pet. Man is that one council dude losing credibility. Bad mistake.”
Tumblr media
“War hero,” he repeated with a scoff, rolling his eyes as he finished off the last of his milkshake, “you think killing a bunch of innocent people makes you special or something?” While Salazar was slowly making him see that not all non-humans were absolute assholes, this woman was also making it clear that most of them were. “You must have a pretty boring life if this is what you do for fun,” he deadpanned, fixing the woman with a flat stare, one that darkened as she mentioned Sal. “Yea, can’t remember asking for your two cents on that, lady,” he replied, “you don’t see me talking about whatever idiot thought it’d be a good idea to claim you, do you?”

nicolas’s meaningful stare never wavered even when met by the younger one’s defiant glare. although his expression remained passive, there was a layer of resolve that was directed at the chain the human bore. the taunt agitation that crinkled the corners of nicolas’s eyes spoke volumes of the regard he held for it. “nothing,” the witch lied venomously. “it’s pretty, that’s all. bet you even like the way it shines in the light.” a sardonic smile accompanied his words but held only a fraction of any real emotion. “one day, you might even forget it’s there… or what it means.” any heat directed towards the human was strictly aimed at the symbol around his neck itself. he was well aware of the fact isaac had no choice in his change of circumstances. nicolas didn’t even communicate this critique as a form of jealously. like all else he’d come to lose in the city, it was his way of mourning another defeat. suddenly his anger sizzled out, and nicolas dropped his accusing gaze. “just… be careful, kid.”
Tumblr media
Isaac wasn’t sure what to make of the man’s cryptic words, and for a second he wondered if the guy was a nut job- he had to be to go around babbling nonsense. But there was something in his gaze that unsettled Isaac nonetheless, and he shifted in his seat, reaching up to deftly tuck his collar away under his shirt and out of sight. The sudden change of pace with the warning only confused him further, and he furrowed his brows, staring at the man openly now. “What the hell are you talking about,” he asked, blunt as ever as he tried to figure the guy out. “You a friend of Salazar’s or something?” he asked after a moment, his gaze falling to the collar around the man’s neck. Maybe the stranger knew Sal, maybe all that talk about his collar was some sort of inside thing, but if that was the case, he couldn’t imagine what he’d be warning him about. “Be careful about what? You’re not making any damn sense.”

“And what?” The hound replied simply, happily showing off her heavily spiked claim collar, one that allowed her to regain her hound powers “You don’t sound at all threatening and you’re easily in range for an ass kicking, human. So you should talk to your betters with more respect” she said simply “A high and mighty human never made any sense.”

His eyes dropped to the obnoxious collar as the woman seemed to show it off, and in response Isaac was tucking his own collar back under his shirt. Unlike the stranger, he wasn’t the sort to flaunt his claim, not when it brought him all sorts of unwanted attention. Like this. “Maybe it’d make more sense if your head wasn’t so far up your own ass,” he muttered, not even looking at the woman anymore as he continued to sip at his drink, “do you have nothing better to do?”

succubus-riley:
Riley wasn’t a fan of witches (their salt-loving ways and the creepy spells really did it for her) so her eyes were naturally caught by the claim of the Witch Supreme–especially since he wasn’t a cute puppy or cat familiar. Riley stared at him and couldn’t sense anything particularly special about the boy, but then again, when did anyone need anything from a claim aside from their mouth and what was between their legs?
When he directed his attention at her, she shrugged, sipping her own milkshake. “Just curious to know what makes you so special. I always thought Salad Supreme had a type and you don’t strike me as saucy.”
Tumblr media
For a moment Isaac just blinked at the woman, his lips pressing into a line. With the way the woman spoke, it was easy to catch on that she knew Salazar, well enough to apparently know his type. “Well that would make me special, wouldn’t it,” he returned, a sardonic lilt to his tone as he continued to watch her. He wasn’t all that great with faces, he didn’t care to be either, so he wasn’t even sure if he’d run into this one before to know what her deal was. Leaning forward to brace his crossed arms on the table, Isaac took another sip from his half empty milkshake, wondering if he should just chug the rest of it and leave. “And you care because?”

kaindrorrenth:
Kain had actually begun to like Salazar. Respect him, even. He wasn’t sure how he felt about the witch now. Claiming a human? He wanted to understand, to see where the man was coming from, but he didn’t. Couldn’t. He had always loathed humans and he had hoped that Salazar, a fellow councilmember, would share his point of view. Hearing about the claim had left him perplexed, and annoyed. He had yet to confront the witch about it, as they had been busy with everything that had happened in the city, the murders that had taken place, but he would eventually want to know what the hell he had been thinking. To his surprise, he ran into the human first instead. He looked at the slave with a mixture of curiousity - trying to understand what Salazar saw in him - and disgust. He was pretty, yes, but many humans were. That didn’t take away from the fact that they were the real monsters. “You may be claimed, boy, but you should still watch your tongue,” he warned.
Tumblr media
Though he didn’t make it a habit to cross paths with any of the Council members outside of Salazar, it was impossible to live in Firebrand and not know who they all were. And so Isaac was very well aware of who the tall, burly man was, even if they’d never said two words to one another before. From the way the Dragon was sizing him up, it was also clear to him that the man was aware of who he was. Which was great, of course. “I was just asking a question, your Grace,” he replied, his tone flat but with an obvious defiance in the darkness of his eyes, in the sharp angles of his jaw. But even Isaac knew better than to piss off a Council member, and he knew acting out now would only mean trouble for Salazar in the end. It didn’t mean he was going to be fake though, he’d always been more of the brutally honest sort than a liar. “You were glaring so hard I figured you had something to say.”

maeve-douglas:
Ever since the death of Astoria, Maeve had not been in the best headspace. It seemed everything that had happened to her over the years came back, taking up space it hadn’t for years. It always seemed to hit at random times, the sadness taking over. She had made her way to the diner, hoping some breakfast food would help bring her mood back up. She hadn’t realized she was staring at someone until they spoke. “I’m sorry,” she said as she came back to herself. “I was a million miles away. Didn’t mean to stare.”
Tumblr media
To say that he regretted snapping at someone who didn’t actually mean to stare and was nice about it wouldn’t have been inaccurate, but it did have his anger lowering back down to a simmer rather than boiling over as it usually did. “It’s fine,” he mumbled, shifting awkwardly in his seat and absently running his fingers through the curls at the nape of his neck. “You’re lucky you’re not a slave,” he said dryly a moment later, “you’d get in a lot of shit for staring at the wrong Superior.”

familiarxmariana:
Mariana was exhausted (and hungry) from another long day on her feet and she still had a few more hours to go. It didn’t help that her thoughts kept drifting. Drifting to her newfound family and hoping he wasn’t in any trouble. Drifting to how her friends were doing with the witches in their lives, hoping they were okay now that things were settling down again. Drifting to her own witch in her life–even if he wasn’t hers, not really. They weren’t bonded, and she definitely didn’t belong to him, but Mari found herself every day just..itching to make sure he was okay–something she hadn’t felt so prevalently since her last witch. It all just served to make her head spin a bit, overwhelming to the point that she spaced out a bit. So much so she hadn’t realized she’d stopped by a table besides the one she needed to clean until she heard the voice. And when she focused, she flushed a bit. Of all the people to space out in front of… Mariana’s eyes drifted down to the new collar around the boy’s neck before she shook her head, giving a polite little smile. She wondered if he even remembered her. “I–Sorry. I uh..–just need to clean up the table behind you. ..Do you need a refill?” she asked, nodding to his cup.
Tumblr media
Immediately following his little outburst, Isaac registered the unfortunate victim of his ire and took a deep breath before let it out slowly. He might not’ve been all that good with faces, but he remembered the woman from the few times they’d run into one another. That time at the diner with the demon. Leaning back in his seat, Isaac rubbed the back of his neck and cleared his throat, taking a moment to realize where her gaze had drifted. He generally kept his collar out of sight and under his clothes, hadn’t realized it’d even slipped out from beneath his t-shirt. He wasn’t the flashy sort, didn’t like drawing attention to himself and certainly wasn’t the sort to flaunt, and so he tucked the long tag back under his shirt, the cool metal settling against his chest. There was...something in the woman’s eyes, but he wasn’t exactly sure what, and before he knew it, the moment had passed. “Oh. I thought you were- nevermind. I’m uh, sorry,” he responded with a boyish sort of awkwardness, running a hand through his curly hair. “And it’s fine, I’ve only got enough for this,” he answered simply, figuring that the owner of the place would charge for refills, anything for an extra buck. It wasn’t exactly true that he didn’t have access to more money, Salazar had made sure of that, but he wasn’t sure yet how he felt about it all and so he decided to continue using whatever money he made himself for the time being. It was how he’d gotten by all these years, after all. “Mariana, right?”

Though Isaac had to begrudgingly admit that being claimed had its perks, there was a lot to adjust to, stuff he hadn’t even thought about before. Even the absence of the collar he’d worn since he was thirteen was hard to get used to, and he often caught himself absently brushing the side of his neck, expecting to feel the constricting leather and instead being met with the heavy gold chain of his claim collar. Something else he was having a hard time getting used to were the whispers that seemed to follow him whenever he was out and about. Isaac knew how fast word traveled in Firebrand, and he also knew a Councilperson claiming a human slave would generate some attention, but it was starting to get really old, really fast. It’d already been a long day, and he was just trying to have his milkshake in peace, so when he felt another pair of eyes in his direction, Isaac looked up to return the look wth a glower. “What.”
