My angsty heart needs to know all about "Soulmates but make it sad" please x

Hello! 🌻

This one is a wolfstar fic, and a soulmate AU, but they're not each other’s soulmates. Remus doesn’t have a soulmate at all because he's a werewolf, and Sirius is engaged to his soulmate, who is abusive. Remus and Sirius met in a writing class, and because Remus never heard from Sirius after the class was over, he thought that Sirius didn’t want to be friends after all. Until Sirius calls him one evening, asking to spend the night because it's not safe for him to be at home.

Here's a snippet:

“Does Ricky know you’re a wizard?” Remus asked.

“No…”

“Why?”

Remus had already had a feeling Sirius might be living as a Muggle, but he was still surprised to find out that even his soulmate didn’t know about him.

“Well, the Statute of Secrecy, for one,” Sirius said.

“But he’s your soulmate.”

“It doesn’t matter in the eyes of the law. And besides, I was going to tell him, but then I didn’t know how to bring it up, and I just never figured out how to tell him, and now it’s been so long that I might as well wait until we’re married.”

“You’re going to marry him?”

Remus hadn’t wanted for his disbelief to be so obvious in his voice, and Sirius’s little smile died.

“I just mean,” Remus hurried to say, “you’re still so young.”

“We’ve been together for four years, and engaged for one. So, it’s actually about time we got married.”

“Oh.”

2. that's the idea: Sirius dragged his eyes along his features in the framed mirror; they were wrong.

3. your 'lectric eye on me, babe: It is on the end of his second full play through of the album that it occurs to Remus that maybe, perhaps, he should consider leaving his self made cocoon of music and cigarette smoke and darkness and water that has lost its warmth and is a kind of uncomfortable lukewarm now. 

4. the radio interview: “Now, since you came out in that viral Instagram post…” Sirius sighs, doing nothing to hide his exhaustion for what he knows is to come.

5. meet me there (are you coming?): The Order of the Phoenix is known for three things. 

6. sun kissed lips (that i might kiss, too): It was Christmas Eve’s Eve and Dorcas was standing in a pub.

7. i won't believe you: It all started with a prank, the prank, you know the one.

i've never thought to compare how i start my writing, so this is super interesting. there doesn't seem to be too much of a pattern, though for quite a few of them i start off with a short declarative statement. maybe i should start with dialogue more, that might fun. also my wolfstar fics seem to alternate in POVs as well, which i didn't realise but that's so cute. i just love both s and r equally.

1. Ain't no Grave by Crooked Still

Biblical song about death, the rapture etc from a woman who even death wont hold her back from fighting her way to ascension- even if she has to fight god and his armies herself.

2. Devil's Backbone by The Civil Wars

Sweet religious girl falls in love with a sinner boy and is stuck between the teachings that "a sin is a sin" but seeing her love as someone who didn't have a choice for a holy lifestyle, and begging the lord to forgive him anyways on her behalf.

3. Hades Pleads by Parker Millsap

This boy is trouble, but singin you a sweet song trying to drag you under like Hades did with Perseophone. The lyrics are both a warning and a proposition flipping between "Im a bad idea" and "I will worship you like you deserve to be worshipped" aka i'm a sucker.

4. Australia by The Shins

One of those classic "exestential crisis but with an upbeat tune" about running out of time and desiring to run away from shitty circumstances with a divine intervention or some fantasy whisk away from an ordinary tragedy of everyday life.

5. Cavalry by Shayfer James

I already adore this artist and its just his newest release. I would try to sum up the themes going on here but theres SO MUCH to interpret. Though one of the major baseline themes is People are going to be people, and you better find out what people you side with before your batted around like a cat with a mouse.

Currently reading - fiction: the Murderbot Chronicles, nonfiction: How To Read Industrial Britain

Currently watching - just finished Beef (it was fantastic. Anyone who likes dark humour and messy lives watch it asap). Now rewatching ATLA bc the new show discourse triggered a bunch of nostalgia for my partner. I think the first time I watched it I was both too old and too young to fully appreciate it, and I’m enjoying it a lot this time around.

Currently obsessed with - obsession levels relatively low at the moment. I’ve been gripped by a resurgence of love for niche settlement building games (Landnama and thriving city: Song is what I’d recommend right now). Also obsessed by: 1) how I now live in a town small enough I can straight up go and walk into the woods, 2) the super faded signs marking old walking paths around the town. Most of them are now blocked by developments/the highway but some of them are still viable and that really charms me.
