Witch bottles were counter-magical items that were first made in the 1500s. They were used to repel witch's curses.

The bottle was filled with the curse victim's hair, nail clippings, urine or even bellybutton lint to attract the witch - since it's believed there's a magical connection between the witch and the person they've cursed. Bottles were also filled with sea water or wine to drown the witch, pins and needles to impale them, or herbs like rosemary to repel their magic.

The bottle was hidden or buried on the victim's property. It was believed the alleged witch and her evil energy would be drawn into the bottle and trapped. The protective spell would work as long as the bottle remained hidden and unbroken. Sometimes bottles were thrown into the fire; it was believed the witch would be destroyed when the bottle exploded.

Everyday i think about this screenboard scene that got semi-scrapped from Donnie vs Witch Town, like it just explains so much about Donnie as a character and i’m very sad we didnt get to see it entirely

That glass jar you are looking at, empty and ready to be saved, ready to be delabeled, cleaned and put in a shelf —

The small box with the satisfyingly sized lid, you know what I am talking about, when you have a small box and the lid fits on top of it at the perfect size that is easy to remove and yet secure when closed thus marrying the design and engineering of production —

The little cup that is a little too small to use for anything that immediately comes to mind but the shape of the color or the weight or the material it is made from or maybe just the size of it is appealing to you on a visceral level so specifically it is difficult to imagine life without this little cup even though you have no immediate use and also the size is inherently useless —

Say what you will about carefully-curated workspaces and highly-detailed rituals for creating magical objects, they're all well and good.

But for me, the peak of modern witchwork is setting up your materials on a desk with sigils painted under the worktop, lighting up some incense you got in a trade at the last swap meet, tapping your wifi as a protective bubble, and making charms while you binge-watch something on your favorite streaming service.
