it was a simple dinner.

one dinner and everything would be over because you would avoid your family for the next two months on the grounds that college was keeping you super busy. it would be easier to tell them that you and peter broke up after

you always opted for the easier way out. why make your life harder. that was the exact reason you decided to ask peter parker to accompany you to the family dinner for your grandma’s 70th birthday. it was going to be a big celebration and rather than having your mom point out that each of your cousin brought someone well-qualified as their dates, you chose the easy way out and asked peter to be your “boyfriend” for one day.

“i will help you with history.” you pleaded, “i’ll cover your lunch for a week.” you bargained again when he seemed hesitant.

peter chuckled, “y/n, do you really think that’s a good idea?”

“i’ve seen you in drama class, peter. you can act. plus you’re smart. they’ll love you!” you sighed, missing the way peter’s cheek turned a shade of light pink.

“shouldn’t it be the opposite?” he raised an eyebrow.

“no, it’s better if they believe i broke your kind, innocent heart and left you.” he couldn’t help but laugh at the way you said that, “please?”

and that’s how you ended up here in your most expensive dress that ran all the way down to your feet, the green of the dress matching your earrings. your hair was neatly put up in a bun and when peter saw you, he forgot to breathe for a moment. you noticed his cheeks heat up this time and gave him a smile.

“uhm, ready to go then?” he mumbled, watching you move across the room to grab your clutch, your platform heels clicking against the floor. he wanted to compliment you on every little detail he noticed about you but all his words died on his tongue, considering how this all was supposed to be fake.

you gave him a nod and walked to him, linking your arm in his, “let’s go flaunt your acting skills.”

barely an hour into the event and you felt like drowning yourself in drinks. your mother and aunt won’t stop investigating you about your and peter’s story and you told them all kinds of crap, however it started to get tense once they cornered peter. he was a nervous wreck, you could tell. your hand was in his, his palm sweaty and cold as your mom kept asking him about his future plans.

the first chance you got to get away from them, you dragged the brunette inside the house, to your old room, “i’m so sorry they did that.”

your heavy sigh was met with silence for a few moments as you noticed peter looking around your room. he admired the sky blue walls and the desk in the corner of your room with all kinds of books, from your academic books to novels you’d read over your school years.

“just twenty minutes more and then we’ll leave.” you promised him, sitting on your bed. peter joined you shortly, sitting beside you. you looked over at him, “i’m really sorry.”

he gave you a pursed smile, “it’s fine. i mean, relatives can be annoying. i’m so glad my aunt doesn’t believe in taking me to our relatives’ place.”

you chuckled, feeling a little at ease, “thanks. i promise your lunch is on me for the whole week.”

he reciprocated your chuckle, “that’s not necessary, y/n.”

you gave him a look of confusion, “no, no. let me. it’s only fair.” you shrugged, “this was our deal. you acted well and i should do my part now.”

peter spoke up after a moment, “i’m not that good of an actor.” he shrugged and you gave him a smile.

“what?” you dragged it out, “you absolutely are!”

“well, maybe i wasn’t acting.” he chuckled and you could sense his nervousness returning.

“but you were really good… my family would never know we’re not dating.” you gave him a smile, “you were good.”

“i wasn’t that good.”

“why do you keep saying that?” your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“because i wasn’t acting.” peter blurted out suddenly, making you halt, your eyes fixated on his face.

“you weren’t…?”

he gulped, realising there was no going back now, “i like you- have liked you… for a while now.” that pink colour returned to his cheeks, “and when you asked me to be your date to this party… i honestly didn’t need bribing.”

you chuckled at his nervousness and leaned in to place a kiss on his cheek, “you’re cute.” that didn’t help with peter’s reddening face. he watched you get up– his hand in yours now– and got up himself, “wanna ditch this lame party and go on a real date?”

peter was home alone. he was supposed to go over at may’s today but she was busy at the feast centre. the only thing peter could think of was to go over to your place and hang out with you.

so he changed quickly into his spidey suit, packing his clothes into his backpack. singing it over his shoulder and he was off to your place but when he reached your window, the room seemed empty and cold. he knocked anyway, receiving no reply. he sat down on the railing, pulling out his battered phone from his backpack he typed in your contact name and called you.

after a few rings, you picked up, your voice breathy.

“you’re out?” he asked.

“went grocery shopping.”

“in this weather?” peter asked, voice amused.

“i wanted to eat ramen, pete. you know i’d do anything for some good ramen.” you giggled and peter heard your front door open.

“well, can you open the window?” he asked, hearing shuffling from your apartment until he saw you opening the door to your room.

“i thought you were going over to may’s?” you mumbled into the phone still as you made your way over to the window, unlocking it for him.

peter quickly stumbled inside, hanging up and giving you a shrug, “she’s busy with martin, feast work.”

you gave him a smile, “fancy some ramen?”

after a while, the two of you were cuddled under the bed, finished ramen bowls kept on your bedside table as the two of you browsed through movies to watch on your laptop.

peter’s arm was lazily draped around your shoulders, his hand playing with your hair, “nightmare before christmas?”

“a little too late for that, parker.” you chuckled, looking at him.

“wanna watch a christmas movie?” he suggested and you nodded your head, “which one?”

you scrolled through the options, “silent night?”

“i’m sorry, i thought you said it was too late for that.” he gave you a look, making you roll your eyes.

“it’s not a halloween movie.”

“keep scrolling.” he said, not giving you the chance to do so as his finger met the screen of your laptop, scrolling past ‘silent night’, “maybe something classic like love actually or jingle all the way?”

you scrunched up your nose in disapproval, “we’ve seen it too many times.” it was peter’s turn to roll his eyes.

“it’s classic for a reason, babe.”

“how about we watch something new?”

peter gave it a thought and shrugged, “go on.”

“willy wonka?”

“that’s old-”

you cut him off, “i was talking about the new one.”

“that’s not exclusively a christmas movie.”

you groaned and looked back at the screen, “holidate?”

“cliché”

“christmas with you?”

“even more cliché.”

you looked at him with a straight face and he just kissed your forehead. you rested your head on his shoulder and just clicked on the next movie you found, “we’re watching family switch.”

“fine with me.”

the two of you watched the movie and you tried to keep your focus on the movie even though halfway through it peter was nestling his face into your neck, his lips grazing your skin. you kept your eyes trained at the screen, feeling him place butterfly kisses along your neck, “what are you doing?”

“got bored.” he mumbled back to your question, placing more kisses along your neck and collarbone, relaxing against the bed. your focus was breaking once peter’s hot tongue swirled against your warm skin. you gasped a little, feeling his teeth nip at your collarbone.

“it’s a nice movie.” you claimed.

“this is better.” he continued leaving kisses over the spot he bit before trailing kisses from the base of your neck, up to your jaw. his teeth biting into your skin every once in a while was followed by him soothing it by swiping his tongue over it.

it must’ve been almost ten minutes before you shut your laptop, pushing it away. your hand travelled to the back of his neck, pulling him in for a kiss.

peter gasped a sound of surprise but kissed you back, his hands flying to your waist and pulling you closer to him. you pushed him back onto the bed, haphazard with the blanket as you straddled his lap.

when the two of you parted for air, peter’s eyes ran over your skin and he chuckled. you gave him a questioning look, “what?”

“i may or may not have left some…. marks.”

your hands went to the skin of your neck, dragging your fingers over the slightly sore spots.

“well…” you mumbled, smirking down at him, “it’s only fair if i return the favour.”

“stupid party.” peter mumbled, walking in after you and shutting the door to the apartment the two of you shared.

you turned around to face your boyfriend, arms crossed over your chest, “what did you just say?”

“i said it was a stupid party.” he rolled his eyes at you.

you and peter had been to harry’s new year party and even though his best friend had wanted to stay, peter was tired of watching flash thompson hit on his girlfriend. it was like he was stuck to your side wherever you went. it was either making a joke that would make you laugh or getting you a drink but when he went as far to place a hand on your arm, peter had had enough.

he dragged you out of the party, saying a half assed goodbye to harry. it wasn’t his main concern now, he would call harry later.

“you’re really gonna do this today?” you demanded, looking at him with a hard stare.

“that jerk was all over you, y/n!.” he tried to explain, “flash is no good news.”

“peter, i don’t know if you noticed but i was just being friendly!” you huffed to which peter only rolled his eyes.

“but were you loving the attention?” your mouth hung open at his ridiculous question, “well, were you?!”

“no! i was not.” you walked away from him, walking to the bedroom in hopes to change out of your party dress peacefully but that didn’t look possible with peter hot on your trail.

“look. i know this may be ridiculous but-”

you cut him off, “it is ridiculous. just because flash was my ex-”

“that’s not the point. he was a jerk to you! always. he’s a jerk to everyone. why do you have to be nice to him?!” peter argued, only agitating you further.

“will you stop with this old argument over and over and over.” you sighed, running a hand through your hair, “peter i’m tired of fighting.”

“then why don’t you ignore him?”

“no, why don’t you ignore him?! you’re the one who seems to be obsessed with him.” you didn’t even realised when you started raising your voice but the look on peter’s face told you that you did somewhere across your sentence. you sighed softly, trying to calm down, “i didn’t mean to…”

peter shook his head, “i’m tired of fighting too, you know?”

“i know.” your tone softened as you carefully took his hand in yours, “peter, i know you’re worried about me. but you need to know that i got this. i can deal with him and it’s not your place to tell me what to do about this… just trust me, okay?”

“i do trust you.” peter nodded, gently pulling you against his chest as he hugged you.

you gave him a smile, “thank you.”

“that party was still stupid.”

you just hummed absentmindedly, “whatever you want.”

“i mean we can go chronologically as well.”

you shrugged, “whatever.”

“we can watch frozen too!” he smiled.

“anything for you.”

peter sighed, “y/n, you’re killing the christmas spirit.”

you chuckled, finally opening your eyes and looking up at his soft, brown ones and his pouty face. you placed a thumb and index finger on either side of his lips and gently pulled to make a smile, watching him roll his eyes at you, “i’m just saying that we can watch anything you want, baby.”

“but do you want it as well?” he raised his brows in question.

“i don’t care.” you shrugged yet again, making peter pout more.

your boyfriend shook his head gently, “you hate christmas.”

“i don’t hate christmas-”

“you called my eggnog bad. you said it tasted like plain raw eggs?” he gave you a confused look, “i followed a proper recipe, you know?”

“i didn’t insult your eggnog. i just… don’t like the drink very much.” you tried to reason with him as he shuffled through movies to watch on the tv.

“so you do hate christmas.”

you tried but failed to stop the chuckle that left your mouth, “peter, i don’t hate it.”

“what about going to watch a christmas lights show?”

“too cold outside.” you snuggled closer to your boyfriend, finding warmth in the crook of his neck.

“just wear your coat.” he suggested, running his fingers through your hair.

“why do you insist on doing things when we can just cuddle the winter away.” you heard peter groan and giggled.

“one normal christmas, that’s all i wanted.”

usually peter found his aunt, may, to be pretty chill. never ever scolding him even for silly mistakes. not even the time he tried to cook popcorn for movie night and almost burnt the house. but right now she looked fed up, almost worried.

it was only fair, she had been working her ass off at feast and it got pretty tough around the holiday season what with the freezing winter and snowfall.

plus he’d given her more than one reason to be mad. he was barely home– going on patrols anytime he wasn’t busy with homework. he often forgot to bring back groceries that may had asked him to and now he had messed up the postcards. she had reminded him four times to post them before the twenty third so that the cards reached everyone on time, but now it was the evening of twenty fourth and all the postcards were kept on the table, untouched since they had been left by her.

peter felt guilt eating at him as he apologised to her.

she sighed, looking at her nephew’s saddened expression, “it’s fine. i guess it’s fine if the cards are a few days late.” she gave him a kind look, returning to her usual self.

“are you sure because i can-” peter stumbled upon his words before getting cut off mid sentence from the sound of the doorbell ringing. the brunette stared at the door for a second before hopping up quickly, “i’ll get it.”

opening the door, he found you with a big grin and two bags in your hands, “merry christmas eve!” you grinned and instantly your arms were around peter. he noticed the snowfall outside and quickly invited you in.

“did you walk here in this cold weather?” your boyfriend asked, his eyes wide and you shrugged.

“cold never bothered me anyway.” you chuckled and went over to greet may and she smiled as you hugged her.

peter’s heart swelled when he noticed how you’d managed to completely change the whole mood of the room just by being in it. you handed one of the bags to may, “i got you a christmas sweater!”

his aunt smiled, taking the bag from your hands and digging in. she pulled out a grey sweater with a red banner in front that read ‘it’s the time to be jolly’ and the twelve reindeers dragging santa’s sleigh. may laughed, looking at the sweater, “thank you, sweetie. you didn’t have to do this.”

“except that i absolutely did!” you grinned and pulled out another sweater from the second bag, “and i got one for peter too.” this one was a green one with lots of candy canes and snowmen printed over it.

peter reached out to take the sweater from your hands and smiled at it, “thanks, i really love this.”

you looked at the postcards placed on the table and then the two of them, “i’m sorry if i interrupted you guys… what were you talking about-”

“nothing important! it was nothing important.” peter quickly interjected, punctuating his sentence with an awkward chuckle, “anyway… how about we go make some hot chocolate?”

“and watch some nice movies! may, you should totally join us.” you smiled at her, taking off your coat to reveal your own red christmas sweater, a huge christmas tree with glimmering lights upon it, making peter laugh.

thankfully, may agreed to your suggestion and the three of you sat on the couch, each with a cup of hot chocolate, spending the best christmas eve– as peter would claim later– and the postcards stayed forgotten for one more day.
