🍕 BOOK FEATURE 🍕 Q: Do you have a large extended family, and/or a rich culture your family celebrates? A: My family isn't that big, plus dad was in the Air Force so we moved around a ton. We're also very basic white folks so I am jealous of other folks' cultural heritage 😂 (swipe for double photo bomb) 🍕 Thanks so much to Partner @bibliolifestyle and @williammorrowbooks for the gifted copy of VARINA PALLADINO'S JERSEY ITALIAN LOVE STORY by @terrilynnedefino! This book is giving me MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING vibes, and I am here for it! 😍 (I saw that in the theater, by the way....if that gives you an idea of how darn old I am 🤣) The book is available NOW (released Feb 14) anywhere books are sold, so check it out! SYNOPSIS: Lively widow Varina Palladino has lived in the same house in Wyldale, New Jersey, her entire life. The town might be slightly stuck in the 1960s, when small businesses thrived and most residents were Italian, but its population is getting younger and the Palladinos are embracing the change. What Varina’s not embracing, much to her ninety-two-year-old mother’s dismay, is dating. Running Palladino’s Italian Specialties grocery, caring for her mother, and keeping her large, loud Jersey Italian family from killing one another takes up all of Varina’s energy anyway. Sylvia Spini worries about her daughter Varina being left all alone when she dies. Sylvia knows what it is to be old and alone, so when her granddaughter, Donatella, comes to her with an ill-conceived plan to find Varina a man, Sylvia dives in. The three men of the family—Dante, Tommy, and Paulie—are each secretly plotting their own big life changes, which will throw everyone for a loop. Three generations of Paladinos butt heads and break one another’s hearts as they wrestle with their own Jersey Italian love stories in this hilarious and life-affirming ode to love and family. 🍕🍕🍕 #varinapalladinosjerseyitalianlovestory #terrilynnedefino #terrilynnedefinobook #contemporaryromance #contemporarybooks #adultcontemporary #februaryrelease #gifted #bibliolifestyle #williammorrowbooks #williammorrow #bookstagrammers #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramtour #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpx1rrRLSqy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🐉 RATING:🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 A fantastical story anchored in the real world of academic cartography, The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd is a page-turning delight. This book successfully combines family drama, mystery, and fantasy with a touch of romance. I’ll avoid details so that future readers can fully enjoy how the road twists, turns, and detours. Book Review…The Last Checkmate by Gabriella Saab Captured by the Gestapo, she is imprisoned in Auschwitz, but while her family is sent to their deaths, she is spared. Realizing her ability to play chess, the sadistic camp deputy, Karl Fritzsch, decides to use her to entertain the camp guards. However, once he tires of her, he has every intention of killing her. Maria vows to avenge the murder of her family, and orchestrate Fritzsch’s downfall. As she carries out her plan and the war nears its end, she challenges her former nemesis to one final game, certain to end in life or death, in failure or justice. If Maria can bear to face Fritzsch and her past one last time. The Last Checkmate is a beautifully written story with an inspiring main character and filled with courage and hope. There were some parts that were hard to read but I don't think there will be many people who read this book and not be filled with admiration for Maria! She is a strong and beautiful character to follow! I liked how the author weaved chess throughout the book. It was a unique twist! The story I'd fast paced and came together nicely. The writing is wonderful! As a reader you feel like you are there with Maria and can hear her thoughts loud and clear! If you're looking for an emotional read with some wonderful characters you'll enjoy this one! #TheLastCheckmate #GabriellaSaab #booksta #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #historicalfiction #wwiibook #bookishpost #read #bookrecommendation #williammorrowbooks #readreadread #booksbooksbooks #bookworm https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg9d4LPNp4d/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🌟 🌟 BOOK REVIEW🌟 🌟 💫 A huge thank you to NetGalley, William Morrow and Kirsten Miller for an Arc of The Change. A magical realism, fantasy or a women's fiction- leave it up to you to choose the genre- what Kirsten Miller delivers is an absorbing cracker of a book with 3 strong female characters at its core who are bound to question everything around you. “They live alongside us, she thought. Some work with us. Some fuck us. And some do both. And yet they seem to know absolutely nothing about us” The setting is an oceanfront town of Mattauk where Nessa James, with her secret gift, uncovers a string of murders of young girls belonging to less well-to-do backgrounds. She finds able accomplices in Harriett Osborne (I don’t think I will find a better character written this year) and Jo Levison, each undergoing metamorphosis of sorts after similar experiences in a male-dominated corporate world. “Hoodoo belongs to the people down here. But there are women all over the world who can do what you and I do. They’ve got different names for it in other countries, but we all share the gift.” While Jo channels her rage into her entrepreneurial role, Harriett uncovers the secret powers of nature while being amidst it and surrendering to its magic. What follows is 3 women who uncover the truth behind the murders and a major syndicate in the town and in the process, destroy the barriers set by the society in this come-of-age women empowerment thriller come drama. The thriller/mystery aspect though pretty great in its own right, it’s the voice of each of the ladies, especially Harriett which made this book stand out for me. I can’t believe I took this long to pick it up but once I started, this was a start-to-finish fun ride. Highly recommended. “The species wasn’t entirely corrupt, Harriett observed. Once in a while, one of them would surprise you. Such actions never redeemed them completely, of course, but it did make Harriett wonder if they really deserved to be wiped off the planet” #TheChange #Netgalley #bookstagram #booklover #magicalrealism #fantasybookstagram #booklover #fantasybooklover #arc #bookreview #williammorrowbooks #kirstenmiller #5starbook https://www.instagram.com/p/CfC4nGGrohl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

💬 How long have you been on #bookstagram? Have your reading tastes changed over that time? I’ve been on Bookstagram for over 7 years now and I feel my reading tastes have definitely changed. I’m still a hugeeeee fan of romance, but I read more dark and fantasy romance now, and far fewer contemporary books. I’ve had this series by @jennifer_l_armentrout on my TBR for so many years… now feels like the perfect time to check it out! 🤎📖 . . The Wait for You series will be coming up on its 10th anniversary, so what better way to celebrate than with a new look? Reexperience these three individual stories and add them to your Jennifer L. Armentrout books collection. Or, if you haven’t read the books, there’s no better time to start than now! Thank you to @williammorrowbooks for gifting me these copies! . . . h a s h t a g s : #waitforyou #bewithme #staywithme #jenniferlarmentrout #jlynn #romancebooks #romancereads #romancereader #booknerd #bookblogger #bookreviewer #bookishaesthetic #bookphotographer #bookphoto #bookpicture #bookflatlay #flatlayphotography #flatlaytoday #goodreads #beautifulbooks #readersofig #booksofig #cosy #cozybedroom #cozy #totalbooknerd #bibliophile https://www.instagram.com/p/CkgL7ivOrdb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It's a snowy night in NYC and it's the perfect weather for a gothic story. The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Choksi published 2/14 and would make a great choice for lovers of adult fairy tales, dark romance and gothic writing. Thanks to @williammorrowbooks and @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: What booknis keeping you company tonight? 🌼 Synopsis 🌼 A sumptuous, gothic-infused story about a marriage that is unraveled by dark secrets, a friendship cursed to end in tragedy, and the danger of believing in fairy tales—the breathtaking adult debut from New York Times bestselling author Roshani Chokshi. Once upon a time, a man who believed in fairy tales married a beautiful, mysterious woman named Indigo Maxwell-Casteñada. He was a scholar of myths. She was heiress to a fortune. They exchanged gifts and stories and believed they would live happily ever after—and in exchange for her love, Indigo extracted a promise: that her bridegroom would never pry into her past. But when Indigo learns that her estranged aunt is dying and the couple is forced to return to her childhood home, the House of Dreams, the bridegroom will soon find himself unable to resist. For within the crumbling manor’s extravagant rooms and musty halls, there lurks the shadow of another girl: Azure, Indigo’s dearest childhood friend who suddenly disappeared. As the house slowly reveals his wife’s secrets, the bridegroom will be forced to choose between reality and fantasy, even if doing so threatens to destroy their marriage . . . or their lives. Combining the lush, haunting atmosphere of Mexican Gothic with the dreamy enchantment of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is a spellbinding and darkly romantic page-turner about love and lies, secrets and betrayal, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. #TheLastTaleoftheFlowerBride #tbr #RoshaniChokshi #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #igreads #reading #bookphotos #bookrecommendation #20booksbyasianwomen #bookish #books #bookworm #bibliolifestyle #AsianAuthors #darkromance #read #gothic #literature #fiction #fairytale https://www.instagram.com/p/CpMaOAOAu9D/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Who finished reading The Memory Librarian?!? While ALL the stories are *amazing*, we want to know which was your favorite. Vote in the comments! We will work to invite the collaborator for your favorite story to a Sistah Scifi Wine Down Wednesday in November. Our favorite is Save Changes. If you haven't read The Memory Librarian, you can purchase using the link in our bio: @sistahscifi | www.sistahscifi.com or check it out from your local #library! In The Memory Librarian, Janelle Monáe and an esteemed cohort of collaborating writers bring to the written page the Afrofuturistic world of her album Dirty Computer, exploring how different threads of liberation -- queerness, race, gender plurality and love—become tangled with future possibilities of memory and time in such a totalitarian landscape. “In this moving, triumphant collection, singer Monáe returns to the dystopian world of her Dirty Computer concept album and short film...This is a knockout.” –Publishers Weekly, *starred review @publisherswkly “Blistering, hopeful, and richly written. . . All readers will finish the book craving more of these extremely queer, bold stories that battle gatekeeping and erasure, digging into both the worst potential of a surveillance state and the gritty glimmer of the rebellion that can defeat it.” —Booklist, *starred review Collaborators Save Changes - YOHANCA DELGADO @yodelnyc Timebox - EVE L. Book Review……The Hidden Child by Louise Fein Edward and Eleanor Hamilton have a great life together. They are happily married and have a healthy four year old daughter Mabel. Edward is a celebrated war hero and is the leading light in the burgeoning Eugenics movement. The very ideas that hitler will soon embrace and increasingly important in designing education policy for Great Britain. But when Mabel starts having epileptic seizures their world shatters. They must hide her illness must be hidden or Edward’s life’s work will be in jeopardy and the family’s honor will be shattered. If only it ended there. When Eleanor discovers Edward has been keeping secrets, she calls into question everything she believed about genetic inferiority, and her previous unshakeable faith in her husband disintegrates. Alarmed, distressed, and no longer able to bear the family’s burden, she takes matters into her own hands. Despite the fact that this was a heartbreaking read I couldn't put it down. The characters were complex, very human with real flaws and strengths and quite believable. The story is told in alternating chapters by Edward and Eleanor's perspectives. At times my heart broke for Eleanor but I also had moments where I didn't care for either Edward or Eleanor. The author has truly written a brilliant historical fiction story that opened my eyes to so many things that happened and things that were believed back then. It was a stunning story that many historical fiction lovers are going to enjoy! #TheHiddenChild #AuthorLouiseFein #book #bookish #bookreview #bookrecommendation #read #historicalfiction #wwii #novel #readstagram #bookstagram #greatreads #booklover #books #williammorrowbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CdYvyHRPB-I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Last Tuesday 9/6 was such an amazing pub day! I am so excited about so many of the late 2022 books that have been coming out because the stories sound incredible. The Attic Child by Lola Jaye is out now this story is sure to keep you captivated until the very end. Can we talk about how gorgeous this cover is? Thank you @williammorrowbooks and @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: Do you enjoy stories about family secrets? Which one do you recommend? 💥SYNOPSIS💥 A hauntingly powerful and emotionally charged novel about family secrets, love and loss, identity and belonging. Two children trapped in the same attic, almost a century apart, bound by a shared secret. Early 1900s London: Taken from his homeland, twelve-year-old Celestine spends most of the time locked away in the attic of a large house by the sea. The only time Celestine isn’t bound by confines of the small space is when he is acting as an unpaid servant to English explorer Sir Richard Babbington, As the years pass, he desperately clings on to memories of his family in Africa, even as he struggles to remember his mother’s face, and sometimes his real name . . . 1974: Lowra, a young orphan girl born into wealth and privilege whose fortunes have now changed, finds herself trapped in the same attic. Searching for a ray of light in the darkness of the attic, Lowra finds under the floorboards an old-fashioned pen, a porcelain doll, a beaded necklace, and a message carved on the wall, written in an unidentifiable language. Providing comfort for her when all hope is lost, these clues will lead her to uncover the secrets of the attic.  #TheAtticChild #LolaJaye #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammers #20booksbyblackwomen #bookish #bookcommunity #reading #TBR #bookphotograph #Nigerianauthor #Africanliterature #fiction #secrets #historicalfiction #literature #libros #BlackBookstagram #BlackAuthor #readersofinstagram #bookworm (at The Bushwick Collective) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiY6AyKr2md/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
