Just had someone tell me that Marinette telling Chloe and Audrey that they should bond over being toxic and entitled was okay because she was being sarcastic, and I just gotta say..... no? that doesn't make it better??

Thankfully this person was pretty civil, and open to having an actual conversation about that scene, and by the end of it we came to agree on some things.

But I still wanna blog about it, because I have a lot of feelings.

Even if Marinette was saying it to be ironic, which still isn't an interpretation that I'm fully on board with, but for the sake of argument, even if she was, that's still a horrible thing to say given the circumstances!

Marinette doesn't have to like Chloe, but if her first reaction to seeing a girl her age on the verge of tears while she asks her mother "Why don't you love me?" is to have a laugh and say "Well, you both suck, so you should be glad to be stuck together!" then that is terrible, and petty, and vicious!

If for some reason you wanna have Marinette banter with Chloe about it, at least wait until she isn't in the most vulnerable position possible, baring her deepest trauma while confronting her abuser.

Either way you slice it, Marinette had no right to say what she did! She was either giving harmful advice that she wasn't qualified to give, or she was being downright cruel.

Was at a party tonight and a shitton of people, cis men and women alike, wanted to pass around my breast forms and fuck with them, as additional chest stuffing, packers, just to feel them... And it wants anything to them but idk the casual acceptance and fucking around and laughing and including me in all of it and showing off was just like. Yeah. This is what it should be. Gendered features and clothes and random shit talked about, passed around at a party. With lots of fun and casualness and jokes and affirmation all in one weird social package. I fucking love it.

Anyways the bad news is I got way too drunk too fast to take pics in the costume this time, but it was the same one as last week so y'know. Same thing. Might take some different pics this week tho, I know my simps are starving

I let pen 3 birds out today, into the yard, and Aris led them on a parade around the barn, and then up to pen 2 to argue politics with Eris and Artemis and Aurora (Stella and Stan refused to walk away from Indie to join in). Polaris was Quite ready to fight Eris, right up until he noticed there was a Brick next to him and that was so utterly terrifying that he tripped over his own feet trying to scramble away from it, knocked Callisto over because she was standing next to him, got his butt kicked by her for it, and walked away licking his wounded pride. Eris will 100% internalize this as her doing, and think she can take him when there's not a fence between them. No one learned anything.

never thought i’d be glad that i got sick but i got sick last evening and threw up my lunch and then was still feeling nauseous so i went to sleep for three hours and woke up at 9 pm and then i wasn’t tired so i was up at night and then saw the lights in the house flickering off and on and then heard the electricity crackling in the breaker box so we switched it off and we had an electrician come this morning and he found a few loose wires going to the box and fixed it but the getting sick was weird bc it wasn’t food poisoning i just threw up and napped and felt fine but if i hadn’t been up to hear the electricity crackling the house could have caught fire and burnt down

LOL. On a bit of a lighter note - Hector found Astarion in camp looking in a mirror, or rather looking at a mirror since he can't see himself in it.

This actually led to a rather touching little conversation about how Astarion has never been able to see what he looks like since he was turned, and how he barely even remembers the face he had before. Hector offered to "be his mirror" and describe him, but Astarion quickly got impatient with his descriptive attempts:

"This is meant to be flattery, not poetry! Just tell me I'm beautiful and we can call it a day."

To which Hector replied: "Karlach is beautiful. You're fine though."

Hee. XD

This, charmingly, got some approval from Astarion, who got all mock-offended.

"How dare you! I thought we had something special."

"Still. You're nice too. I'd better get some beauty sleep - it seems I need it if I'm to catch up with the competition."

I love this whole conversation so much. I feel like it's easy to not give Astarion credit for a sense of humor - and to focus on the whole broody flirtatious vampire situation - but when he's put at his ease he clearly knows how to take a joke.

Look, I'm probably never going to want to read the giant chunker of a Big Important Tragic Classic Book (with bonus whale facts!). But I'm always up for reading a 300-pages-or-less light fantasy novel on an intriguing Victorian-flavored world with sailing ships and big monsters and a compelling-yet-maddened-by-vengeance captain surrounded by a loveable crew faced with moral condundrums, all written by people who love the character dynamics and wish the story was less tragic. Plus, if I don't read the original, I don't have to get upset over how any of these retellings twist the story. It's worked really well so far!
