#when do i make art without a color palette in general lmao

this is a legit question - for years i’ve essentially ‘pirated’ color palettes
for procreate, there’s a pretty big market of color palettes you can purchase to add the swatches to your program. however i was like “i ain’t paying 2+ dollars on some colors” so i just took a screenshot and eyedropped them into the program myself (and for preview images that were censored to avoid that, like having an overlay over half of the colors, i just edited it out to get it close enough). for as long as ive done this i was a cocky edgelord about it but now im wondering if i should feel bad about it??
because even if i think buying colors is ridiculous (especially for some of the prices i’ve seen geez) im still technically stealing. from small businesses. right?? but at the same time can you even copyright a color scheme? is buying a color palette for procreate even worth paying for? cuz they’re so cool and i wanna use em but also cmon.
(also ngl collecting them and dumping them into the program like a treasure haul is addicting lol)
this probably sounds so so stupid but i’m starting to worry a little 😭😭

OMGOMG SAFI congrats on 100 ml !! hihii im here to participate in your cute slumber party event ! (i even brought my fave pillow and totoro plushie)
okok soo yk i'm dria 🩵 black / caribbean, around 5'1 (i promise im so close to 5'2 don't @ me haters will hate i drink my milk and eat my veggies) i have huge hair!! like very big hair, too many curls!! it's alot! i love reading, i write plenty of poetry, which is what i use most of my time to do — i lovelove r&b and early 2000s rap music. however, if u open my spotify rn and shuffle my liked songs it would go in order of hip hop, rap, afrobeats, classical music bcus my taste is all over the place. (i also keep a folder of edit audios for my own maladaptive daydreaming purposes lmao)
im rlly a baby blue girlie, fave flowers are tulips (idk my brain js thinks they look yummy), fave season is autumn ofc bcus rainy weather and i have an excuse to stay inside under my blankets 😭 fave animal would beee a black panther or a tabby cat! (my bby bella is a tabby lmao) i love vintage shows (rlly old noir films of all types of genres) i love cinema and visual art it stimulates me sm (im autistic btw i forgot to say mb) i've watched almost every wes anderson film in existence i love soft color palettes in film so bad <3
i enjoy watching old cartoons to relive my childhood nostalgia, jewelry (esp rings i never go anywhere without one or two on), rainy days, late night car drives, baggy shirts, scented candles, afrobeats n anything astronomy related.
im very much a social science n humanities junkie - yearning to be a clinical psychiatrist or complete my dream of teaching literature / psychology. i cry very easily (im js a crybaby istg) - in general im just very very emotional and more often than not i forget common sense and instinct are a thing bcus wtv i feel i just go with it - though i am extremely introverted and freak out when overstimulated in huge crowds and whatnot.
for the event im picking toji bcus that man is the love of my life bye ☹️ the epitome of sunshine and sunshine protector - tiny human and big scary guard dog ! in terms of our compatibility, we're so opposite it's insane! but we balance each other out well. sometimes i have to serve as toji's brain bcus this man is spending money he does not have on all sorts of things for me js cause i looked twice (my sister hced that he'd go below bankrupt buying me sanrio plushies and rings) he works mostly off instinct where i go completely off emotion so we butt heads alot in terms of decision making but he does not know how to tell me no, all i do is sigh once and HES DONE FOR.
i stress this man out like hes my full time babysitter pls
we acc spend alot of time having deep talks about the world and life in general, (i told him ab the backrooms lore and it messed w his head for weeks) which is a side of him he rarely shows to anyone (also he listens to me rant abt daily pop culture developments bcus he lowkey loves the celebrity drama) he's rlly protective, and even moreso bcus of how my anxiety gets. in a crowd this man is standing in front of me and blocking my view of everyone (he also subconsciously pulls me into his side when we're walking in public bcus my autistic ass will see one thing and wander off never to be found again) im always talking like talk talk talking and he pretends he isn't listening but he's literally able to repeat today something i mentioned two weeks ago - he's attentive, shows his love through actions rather than words. if i even make a face that gives away that im uncomfortable being somewhere, or my social battery is dead, hes taking me home no questions asked not a care as to who says what.
im an affection junkie - physical touch is my thing ! and hes so big! so im always pouncing on him for bear hugs and he acts so unimpressed and cocky abt it like "oh you missed me? im not goin anywhere relax" but he acc melts bcus when was the last time someone gave him affection?? he prob thinks im a figment of his imagination lolol
days off / dates would mainly be : window shopping, grocery runs, sitting in the park at sunset, indoor ramen dates n movie marathons and cuddles !!
AHHH sorry if i ranted way too much omg i can't wait to see what you do safi, i'll love anything u write ily so baddd <33
note: hihi dria, thanks for bringing your fave pillow and your totoro plush to the slumber party.

being with toji is not always as seamless or easy as you make it look. He's gruff and protective and difficult and incredibly stubborn. like that time you two fought because he was ignoring what you were saying and he flat-out refused to acknowledge your demand when you called him out on it. to be fair, he'd come home after an eight-hour shift and you'd started talking his head off, but it wouldn't kill him to listen. he wasn't paying attention when you were talking about that new hello kitty cafe with the fun milkshakes and the mini donuts that you wanted to try. hell, he ended up falling asleep on your shoulder after brushing off your argument and as much as you wanted to remain angry at him, you'd softened immediately upon seeing his tired face, all eyebags and troubled frown. and he did make it up to you later by taking you to said cafe and proving that he had been listening, though when you brought it up to him, he pretended not to know what you were talking about. but deep down he cares for you and he's trying — you know he's trying and you don't want to make him feel bad for things he can't control. a lot of the concerns you should bring up to him, you don't — you want this relationship to be easy and safe. you want him to feel comfortable with you the same way that you feel comfortable with him. even if sometimes he comes home with a busted lip and bloody knuckles and sends your heart skidding against your ribcage. but what matters is that he comes to you first and he comes home to you. so you know that no matter what, no matter how he's feeling, if he thinks he can talk to you or not, he'll always come home to you. and even if you doubt his commitment sometimes, he knows that you're home to him and he'll do anything to keep it that way.

do you have any favourite design work, just in general? your mecha work has always struck me (as someone obsessed with that kind of thing), but the dreamlike feeling of the semi-abstracted backgrounds is incredible
im gonna make this a bit long and also gonna introduce the 'good asks' tag for asks i spend a long time writing an answer for so its not lost to time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a huge inspo for my sense of design, wildly enough, was space patrol lulucos backgrounds. i cant find a better shot in google images of the way it renders space, but the screentone clouds really stuck with me and influenced how i use it heavily. i was really obsessed w the collage like bgs in particular and v singular color grading
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
gunbuster and diebuster are hugely influential, in different ways. im obsessed with the palettes in diebuster.. everything about the lilac stems from the exelion in gunbuster, the zephyrantes took its root entirely from the idea of a warship so large it has a train network and painted skies inside of it etc... the oppressive mech cockpits are heavily drawn from gunbusters. the nerv stuff in eva is also a big source of inspo.
Tumblr media
a huge impact on how i approached backgrounds for coquette was tsukihimes, the singular blue color is why i only use a v limited palette for coquettes backgrounds... where i got started with planning coquettes bgs was the thought of using the same filtered approach but to simple 3d instead of photos. i ended up good at 3d so it never was simple though
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hidamari sketch is maybe my fav work on the planet, and its a huge part of why im obsessed with screentone... my attention to detail with the living spaces of characters comes from it and the detail it gives to every characters room in the apartments, and how they each use the same floorplan differently. its visually stunning top to bottom in a way that only comes through when you watch it imo.. the use of photos etc has stuck with me forever, it rly is a show using 20000 art styles at once and rly gave me a lot of thought on treating direction as collage of styles you like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
heartcatch precure is one of my favs ever, especially visually... i love how far it leans into like being very digital looking and uses color so strongly to convey a mood.. i remember being immediately struck by how it uses this sickly green color for the world/sky during the fights etc to build unease. i love how high contrast it is, i definitely drew a lot from its stark orange and black backgrounds for doing the duchy stuff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a lot of movies definitely stick with me visually, but its easier for me to think in terms of 2d/3d... the mishima movie (lmao) has directly influenced my bg art heavily, especially when i use these kind of overhead diorama esque shots
youtube
in terms of how i do 3d and shade it etc... a lot of is heavily inspired by the use of 3d in the code geass ovas (lmao), noone watched this ever so none of its documented but this AMV has quite a lot of it. the harsh shading in the scene around 00:20 is what influenced me using that style in the ch3 opening animation... the snappy fast violent animation is kind of my ideal for how i wanna animate mechs
i think a lot of how i design things is through trial and error, but theres a lot consciously floating thru my head around what kind of look id like to achieve... i dont actually plan much, ever. i animate with no storyboards, write without an outline, only do one sketch before settling on any designs, and mess around w colors for a scene until its done

,, i dont,, know jackshit about naruto,, but,,,,,,, your watercolor pieces are so good??? like???????? SO GOOD?????
Here's the obligatory ask (since I started trying to use watercolors): are you aware of any tips for that particular medium? Like, are the brushes and watercolor quality really important or is that just my imagination? Also, how 2 mix colors and not die-
LMAO thanks!! I’m glad you think so!
I do have a lot of tips for watercolor, but I’ll start with the material questions. I would say that the quality of the tools can be fairly important, but like, it’s not make or break.
Supplies Information:
Disclaimer: None of this is necessary! You can make great art with any material available to you. All materials have different strengths and weaknesses, but you can create things that bring joy with the most rudimentary of supplies.
I tend mostly to use liquid watercolors because I find them easier to control and manage (and I just...like working out of little bottles of liquid with eyedroppers. It’s my ink bias), but they have significant drawbacks. Archival speaking? light will bleed all the color out of what I have created eventually! They aren’t built to last. That doesn’t worry me much because I tend to stack all my drawings up and shove them in a drawer when I’m done, but it’s something to keep in mind. I find them easy to mix and manage in the pallet, and easy to reactivate if they dry out
The brands I use are Dr. PH Martin’s Concentrated/Radiant Watercolor, and Ecoline Watercolor. Between the two, I would recommend Ecoline because they are cheaper, have more consistent texture, and have more in the bottle. Honestly, if the art store near me wasn’t on a huge sale, I never woulda gotten the PH Martins, they’re expensive as hell and just incredibly teeny glass bottles.
BUT, if you want to use watercolor that comes in tubes (which will last longer, give you more options for artistic expression—because the texture ranges from paste to watery, you have all that range to experiment with—and which most watercolor artists prefer in general) there’s a lot more options. The highest quality for the cheapest price I’ve found are the Turner’s watercolor tubes? I don’t always love the texture when I’m wetting the paint because I am picky, but the color is incredibly vibrant, and the prices are incredibly affordable compared to like, schminke or cotman haha. I used these in school and had a great time with them.
Brushes I know a lot less about, like almost nothing honestly, I wish I could give you some concrete advice on brushes but what it really comes down to for me is like, if you like the way it feels in your hand, if you like the way it makes a mark, it’s good. all it exists to do is facilitate You making a mark on the paper with some artistic medium, as long as you are satisfied with it, that’s good.
If you want brush recommendations though, I’ve been told that Princeton’s watercolor brushes (i have a couple from the Heritage and Velvetouch series) are good synthetic brushes for...moderate prices. Brushes are expensive. Usually people recommend you have a #2 and #4 Round, and a smaller detail brush, but again, really, like all things art it all comes down to your preferences, and your needs.
Actual Painting Tips:
Take care of yourself! Treat yourself kindly, forgive yourself for making mistakes. I’m dead serious. It’s impossible to avoid making mistakes, and in watercolor the mistakes are really hard to fix, and usually impossible without the use of gouache or something else opaque, so at some point it’s going to become an exercise in forgiving yourself for making those mistakes, like drawing in pen with no under-sketch.  On a good day, I find this therapeutic. On a bad day, it’s maddening. It’s okay not to make art on a bad day. When it comes to something you do because you enjoy it, and want to continue enjoying it, it’s important not to force yourself to do anything you don’t want to, and to take breaks when you feel yourself getting frustrated.
Paint from Lightest color value to Darkest. If you’re going to paint a character with a bit of a rim-light from some golden sunlight, paint that light light yellow first, top to bottom, and then work your way to the darker colors.
If you’re painting on a tilted surface (I’m guilty of keeping my sketchpad or paper block on my knees) paint from top to bottom. The weight of the water will pull the paint down, so you want to work with gravity, not against it!
Limit yourself. Let yourself only work with one color for a day or so, then only two colors, then only three. When you put yourself in a corner where you don’t have a lot of options, you’ll often find you surprise yourself with what you come up with. Usually, I pick three colors, put them down on my pallet, and leave them there for a week or so, mostly just painting from those colors. It helps me develop a familiarity with how those colors work together, and how they work when I mix them.
Mixing Colors:
another thing I should say about the Dr.PH Martin’s watercolors is that they don’t always mix well. I tried to get a skin tone for Kakashi once out of pink, green, and a little bit of brown, and in the mixture you could see all of the colors that went into it, and it gave a very strange look. I liked it as a color, but it definitely looked weird.
The paint that you use will have properties specific to itself, and you will get more familiar with those properties as you work it. It may mix smoothly on the pallet, it may not, and both of those can be good if you’re willing to work with them.
Because of watercolor’s properties, there’s three main ways to mix it:
One: Mixing in the palette. What it says on the tin—you mix the paint, you put it on the paper. I do this one the most, it just takes a lot of familiarity with your paints to get used to the balances that create the colors you want, just lots and lots of playing around.
Tumblr media
Two: Mixing dry. This isn’t really “mixing” per se, but it does the same job, Watercolor is a transparent medium, and one that reactivates when wet, so if you put one color over another, it’s about the same as mixing.
Tumblr media
Three: Semi-wet mixing. The combination of the two! You can get some weird effects out of this. I use it sparingly, but I love to use it when I do.
Tumblr media
The most useful physical tool for me (just me personally) in mixing is a pallet i have, and while it’s fairly cheap and should last like, idk forever, there are other ways to get a similar effect without it, as long as you give yourself space to mix.
Tumblr media
it looks like this, it’s a porcelain pallet (so the cleanup is incredibly easy, unlike my plastic one, which unfortunately wants to hold my color a little) and i use it almost daily. The circular wells are for where you put the bulk of the color you will be using, and the rectangular wells are for mixing either with water, to get more translucent colors, or with other colors. The limited wells but excess of mixing space puts pressure on me not to use too many colors, but to mix them constantly. (but also has enough divided space that I don’t feel anxious about everything getting muddied. i am very particular.)
It’s heavy though, and while its therefore good for sitting on my desk and not getting knocked off by my cat or me, it’s not easily portable, especially as it’s uncovered if that's something that is important to you. Blick’s probably has them, as does...I imagine any other art retailer? They’re fairly popular. Usually around 6-8$ but again, none of these tools are necessary, they are just what suit me personally. I hope this helps! If I have the energy for it, at some point I’ll post some basic watercolor exercises to help with control and technical skill. You can get very good with any medium just by raw continuous practice, but my teacher last year had us do a lot of exercises that not only gave me a much greater comfort and confidence with watercolor, but that were also just...incredibly meditative to do.

Survey #292
“dear god, let’s make this fucking clear: dear god, there’s nothing that i fear”
What internet browser do you use? Chrome. What brand water do you drink? (Smart Water, Dasani, etc) Mom just grabs the Great Value jugs. Do you have a job? No. Are you full-time or part-time? N/A Are you watching TV right now? No. Or are you listening to music? Yeah, "Mr. Crowley" by Ozzy. Such a great song. Would you go to jail for 3 years for $1,000,000? No. I would NOT survive in jail. When's your birthday? February 5th. I cannot fucking believe I'm almost 25. Thoughts on kids? Too impressionable for me. Even with my niece and nephew, I feel like every single word I say just like... stamps into their brains, and what if I say something that negatively affects them? I feel like it's my responsibility as an aunt to be a fountain of wisdom when I'm definitely not. I just get nervous around kids. Worst punishment you've ever received by your parents? I wouldn't call it a "punishment," but when I skinned the everliving fuck out of my knees and Mom was patching me up while I was just sobbing away, my dad literally roared "SHUT UP!" from my parents' bedroom, and it's stuck with me forever. Honestly, I think it may be a root in my extreme fear of men yelling. Worst punishment from Mom, probably this time where she smacked the shit outta my arm as a kid and left a clear handprint for a while. Are you the type who is completely against abortion? Why? No, I am firmly pro-choice, despite being pro-life most of my life. I don't feel like writing a moral essay, but basically, I absolutely cannot agree with forcing a woman to carry a human they don't want for whatever reason for nine fucking months, endure one of the most traumatically painful things known to man, and then properly and adequately care for that child. That is such a huge fucking responsibility that should be forced upon *nobody*. "But adoption!" Yeah, go tell that to the thousands of children waiting on you. This is leaning on exactly what I said I wouldn't do, so moving along. Have you ever read a book that actually changed your outlook on life? "I’ve read some books that were phenomenal, but I wouldn’t necessarily go so far as to say that they 'changed my outlook on life'." <<<< This was Johnny Got His Gun for me. Does your favorite flower hold any meaning to you? No. What would you do if your favorite animal became endangered? I would fucking freak. Have you ever owned an expensive eyeshadow palette? No, but I honestly do want at least one, primarily with a deep black and then some nice grays and neutral colors. Do you own a tripod for your camera? Yes. Are your nails always painted? Quite the opposite. What's one thing you've had a toxic reaction to? A breakup. Which holiday is your favorite to decorate for? I honestly don't really decorate because I just don't have the motivation, but Halloween is the best. Were you popular in school? Nope. Are there any foods that often give you heartburn or indigestion? BANANAS, dark sodas (like Coke or Dr. Pepper), peanut butter can... It's hard for me to tell much now because I have chronic heartburn and am medicated for it. Works great, so I don't experience this much. Is there something you intend to buy in the near future? Yes. Once my tattoo is done (I'm setting the appointment the next time we leave the house, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH), what I have left is going towards Venus' new terrarium. She really needs a 40 gallon. Is anyone in your family artistically talented? What about musically? I was the art kid, and family still insist I should be an artist. What cute behaviors or characteristics does/do your pet(s) have? Omg, Roman has so many. He nuzzles me all the time, will collapse into my hand to pet him, he insists on being the little spoon at bedtime (no, really), he literally tries to groom me with his teeth, licks my face... He is just a doll. My little buddy for sure. Now onto Venus. She loves to chill next to me in bed or find a cozy place under the covers, and omgggg does she love to slither around the bed doing the periscope thing. So curious. What's the screensaver on your computer? I don't have one. What’s the sexiest thing about a guy? I am WEAK for nice shoulderblades/muscular shoulders ok. What’s the sexiest thing about a girl? I am an ass bitch and I will not hesitate to admit it ayyyyyeeeee. Who were you with at midnight on January 1, 2021? Nobody. Who was the last person to send you a message on social media? My sister Misty. She's planning to surprise Mom (her stepmom, anyway) by showing up in a few weeks with her fiance and all her kids she's never met but desperately wants to. My mom is the only "real mom" she's ever had, and she just feels so bad that she has a by now teenage daughter (among three other younger ones) that has never met her "grandmother." It's just an expensive and long trip, but Misty's finally called it enough and is just driving down here with everyone. Mom is going to fucking sob. ^ What qualities does this person have, that you appreciate? Nice timing for this, since her fiercely anti-mask bullshit is all I can focus on about her lately... but there are good things about her. She truly is a very loving, passionate woman that, just like me, feels deeply and expresses it. What was the last thing that caused you to scowl, or frown? Does grimacing count from a sudden bodily pain? Have you smiled at any point during the last hour? Yeah. I'm watching the VOD of Arin Hanson playing Kingdom Hearts 2 for charity, and he went on a total fucking laughing fit. His laugh is so precious, so I just couldn't stop grinning. What was the last thing you consulted Google for? Ensuring "grimace" was the right word for my former expression, even though I was pretty positive it was correct... I don't know if anyone's noticed, but my English skills are degrading, particularly in spelling. It's concerning me. I was an English whiz my whole life up to now. My only guess is it's related to how godawful my memory is also declining. So, did anyone send you a "Happy New Year" message when midnight hit? No. When was the last time you were on a carousel? Probably not since I was a teenager being goofy with Jason or somebody. What is the closest you have ever been to an elephant? I have a picture on my dA of a beautiful elephant walking RIGHT by its fence at the zoo. It was pretty amazing, considering just how incredibly immense their enclosure is. Have you ever played Halo? No, it's not my kinda game. Have you ever read a National Geographic magazine? Oh, I'm positive I've read sections while in waiting rooms of various places. When was the last time you had a pillow fight? I have no idea. Realistically it was probably w/ Jason since that sounds like some cute playfighting thing we'd do, but I don't remember a particular instance. Name somebody who you think deserves more respect: "Retail works. The horror stories my mom has on the daily is absolutely ridiculous. People can be so incredibly rude." <<<< I absolutely agree with this; what friends and strangers alike rant about is just depressing. Nobody, especially those working through a goddamn pandemic that's killing thousands, deserves the disrespect that comes their way. Have some goddamn decency and know half the issues you bring up to retail workers isn't even their damn fault. Ohhhh, I could rant about this. In your own words, define what the word sexy means. So you mean like, what I think is considered sexy, not just the general definition? If that's the case, uhhh. Self-confidence (but absolutely not arrogance) is very attractive to me as a bitch who lacks it entirely, as well as good manners, being outgoing, and just... charm. I don't quite know how to describe that "charm" other than I'm really drawn to people who are unique and happy with it and just seem to have an aura about them that feels good to be in. What is the most popular tourist attraction where you live? I'm going to look at this question as if you're asking about my state and not general location because 1.) there ain't shit here and 2.) I'd prefer to keep relatively where I live quiet on the Internet. Looked it up and apparently NC's biggest tourist bait is the Biltmore Estate. Never been there myself, but it'd be pretty dope. Without looking - do you know what brand your underwear is? I'm in my own home and pjs, who the fuck wears underwear with that criteria lmao. Are you any good at volleyball? NOOOOOOOOO. I went to a volleyball camp thing once when I was younger and that shit hurts the hell outta your hands. I didn't stay long. Have you ever had a water balloon fight? Why of course. Do you think some babies are ugly? Quite honestly, probably most, especially newborns. Don’t you miss Chuck E. Cheese? I do; going there was one of the most exciting possible things to me as a kiddo. Do you think Fall Out Boy is gonna be a classic band, like Queen or AC/DC? Possibly. I mean they sure are pretty successful and well-known. Do you love stuff-crusted pizza? Eh, it's not my preference, but I'll eat it. Do you apply lotion after you bathe? No, but I really should, given how dry my skin is. What’s your favorite color? Pastel pink. Who did you have your most amazing kiss with? I'd like to not think about this. Has a YouTube video of yours ever gotten over 10,000 views? Lol definitely not. I think at least one on my older channel hit 1k somehow???? It was a birthday gift I made for someone. Would you ever get a tattoo on your collar bone? lol I already have one there. At some point I'm getting it covered, though. Do you like Robert Frost poems? I do! Do you go to church every Sunday? I never do. Have you ever been in a relationship on-and-off for more than a year? No, I don't play that game. You want me or you don't, so I'm not wasting my time on your uncertainty or just our lack of stability for whatever reason. If you had to get famous for one of the following, which would you choose: music, acting, writing, modeling? Absolutely writing. What do you think of girls with huge boobs that don’t wear bras in public? ?????????????????? i don't?????????????? care???????????????? they're not my tits??????????????? What is the last thing you tried on in a store? I don't know. I avoid trying shit on like the plague. And then it ends up being too big/small. I wonder why. Is sleeping naked more comfortable than in clothes? I've only ever fallen asleep naked once, and accidentally at that, so I really don't remember how I felt about it? Consciously though, I would feel very, very vulnerable so don't have plans to when I have my own place. Have you ever had a dream in which you were making out, or more, with someone? HAHAHA Y'AAAAAALLLLLLL THIS WAS DEADASS THE ONLY LUCID DREAM I'VE EVER HAD LMAOOOOO Do you feel as though you have a good memory, or are you forgetful at times? Do you feel that your short-term memory or long-term memory is better? My short-term memory is absolutely atrocious, like to the point it seriously affects my ability to get shit done. You can give me something that needs to be done and I will forget in a heartbeat. Now, my long-term memory is astonishing. I can remember many things from my childhood in incredible detail. Have you ever had a concussion or some other sort of brain injury before? Did you need to have surgery for it? I've had a concussion or two. I can't remember which. I didn't need surgery. Do you have any sort of mental illnesses or disorders? What do they involve? Yeah: chronic depression, crippling social anxiety, generalized anxiety, avoidant personality disorder (AvPD), obsessive compulsive disorder, PTSD, bipolar II, and I think that's it. My head's a mess and a half. What’s the longest that your hair has ever been? How about the shortest? When is the last time that you got it cut? About to the small of my back; how it is now, which is pretty much shaved on the left and fades to near my chin on the right. I actually got it cut last month; we've gone to a family friend for years whose shop is just an extra building by her house and very rarely has more than two clients in it. We had masks on, of course. At what age did you start getting gray hairs, if you happen to have any? I don't have any. Somehow, given my stress level at all times, haha. What are some ways that you style your hair? Do you use any sorts of products in it? It's too short to style. I don't use any products in it but obviously shampoo. Who was the last person to truly get on your nerves? What do you think caused you to feel that way? Probably my mom. I think she was in a rotten mood for one reason or another and just being snappy and generally rude. Do you recycle? Is this through choice or do you live somewhere where it’s compulsory? We do; it's by choice, and it'd be immensely ignorant not to where we live considering it literally gets picked up with the other garbage. Do you prefer plain, carbonated, or flavored water? Do you think you drink enough water throughout the day? I've never tried carbonated water, and flavored water rarely works for me due to artificial sweeteners giving me beastly headaches. So I'll just take really cold, filtered water. Have you ever needed to call the police, ambulance, or fire department? I had to call the ambulance for my mom right before her cancer was discovered because she was literally immobile and in ungodly pain. When was the last time you visited the library? What was the purpose of your visit? At my old college, as the newspaper photographer, I took some artsy pics up there. I will probably forever worry that leaving school resulted in the biggest career opportunity slipping through my fingers through that newspaper. Do you see a lot of wild animals where you live? Are any of them dangerous? I guess about the normal amount you'd see in the country. Some dangerous animals live here, sure, that's probably everywhere, but you very rarely see any. Aside from when you were born, have you ever had to stay the night in the hospital? For suicidal thoughts and one attempt, yes. Have you ever experienced a panic attack? Ahhhh, do I know those well. Thankfully, it's been a long time since I had an all-out panic attack. Would you ever want to go into the medical profession? Was your answer different pre-COVID? Nope. Well, besides being a vet, which I haven't wanted to be since I was a kid. Where you live, are people paying attention to whatever restrictions are in place to help control COVID? Many? No. Because it's apparently a fuckin hoax or not as bad as the government wants us to think. Fucking cretins. Do you get a real or artificial Christmas tree? Artificial. Real ones aren't worth the money nor mess. What’s your favourite type/flavor of popcorn? Caramel corn. Do you drink oat milk? No, but I'm interested in at least trying it. The dairy industry is absolutely repulsive if you look into it, and I'd love to do what I can to take as little part in it as possible... even though I am a dairy fiend. I seriously wish I could go vegan, I am just WAY too picky for it. Do you love thrifting? Oh fuck yes. I've been very few times in my life, but I'mm all about it. Do you consider using only lowercase letters your aesthetic? I do find it visually appealing; I like the flow of similar letter height. I never do it for "serious" things, but on places where it's "for the aesthetic," it's likely that's how I'll write something. Do you say “mood?” Way too much lmao. Do you own fairy lights? No, though I would like them if it wouldn't look stupid in my room. Do you own glass straws because the metal ones kind of gross you out because you can’t tell if they are clean or not? ... I didn't know glass straws were a thing. I have a handful of metal ones though, but I always forget I have one in my purse when I go out... Have you made a TikTok? No. Do you own airpods? No. Are you afraid of Mercury in retrograde? I don't believe in a planet's position or whatever having any effect on people. Do you make life choices based on astrology? Definitely not, considering I don't believe in it to begin with. How many pairs of converse shoes do you own? Maybe like, five? Number of jeans in your closet: Zero. What accent do you have? Not really any, but sometimes I sound kinda southern with specific words. Do you have a big butt? Yo I got a Hank Hill ass, so no. Do you count how long you and your gf/bf have been together? In my past relationships, yes, I assigned our anniversary to memory. I don't really... know why, like it doesn't really matter how long you've been together, I just do. Have you graduated? From HS, yes. I dropped out of college three times lmao. Rihanna or Lady GaGa? Ohhh, not sure. Maybe GaGa, but both ladies have songs I love. "Disturbia" doess beat all of her songs, tho. The fuckin BEAT. Do you use fake eyelashes? Never tried 'em. Which was the last book that really captivated you? The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. What makeup brands do you use? I'm not loyal to any, really. I would be if I could afford expensive shit, but yeah, that ain't my life.

hi! would you ever consider doing a coloring tutorial? or maybe any refrences you have that taught you how to paint like you do? my drawing skills are pretty good but im absolutely abysmal at coloring and im looking to improve and learn how to paint. i just love your art, honestly! ive watched your quick draws on youtube but theyre a bit fast so i have a hard time really following them
hi! i’m very flattered that you’d look to me for advice! i actually made a coloring tutorial a while ago, but i figured i should probably remake it lmao
however, important foreword: i’m 15 and have never been to art school and taught myself what i know. so i mean. please take everything i say with a grain of salt.
tutorial under cut!
Tumblr media
different color harmonies, like the ones i listed, create very different atmospheres. complementary color schemes are very eye-catching, especially when both colors are really vibrant. you see complementary pairs a lot in sports teams or ads. i’ve found that making one color dark, and making it’s complement the light source creates very dramatic and striking lighting! (dark blue-violet and light yellow-orange is one of my favorite color schemes ever it looks so cool)
i usually come up with the general mood i’m going for before anything else. then based on that, you can decide the palette you want to go for. monochromatic and analogous schemes are more calm and pleasing to the eye, whereas triadic or complementary schemes are a lot more jarring
Tumblr media
the other thing that informs my color choice is general knowledge of color symbolism. people usually know the basics without ever actually researching the specifics - blue is sad, yellow is happy, red is dangerous, pink is romantic, etc. taking a minute to think about what you want to express creates a big difference!
Tumblr media
as for my personal painting process, usually it goes something like this (i saved a bunch of wips from what i’m workin on rn)
Tumblr media
i never line this cleanly idk what possessed me. but usually i just sketch out the general figures, which you can probably see alright in my speedpaints
Tumblr media
coloring for me is just endless trial and error and doing random shit until i’m done. i have everything on low opacity so i can just throw a bunch of random colors on top of each other on the same layer as the lines until i like the way it looks
Tumblr media
i keep using a low opacity brush on the same layer as everything else, and kind of block out the major colors. try not to pull random colors out of nowhere - keep everything in line with the rest of the palette, unless it’s intentional contrast. for example, the cuff on the man’s suit is supposed to be very vibrant red, but instead of just choosing a red color and going for it, i looked for a closest hue in the drawing. that ended up being that orange-ish pinkish shade you can see in the background between the purple and yellow light. i made it the slightest bit more saturated, but not enough to distract from the focus of the drawing. so it’s not exactly accurate, but you’re allowed to use artistic license to make the palette work. don’t get too hung up on accuracy!
Tumblr media
then just general color correction. i thought it looked too grey and boring, so i put a dark purple multiply layer and then some really intense orange and pink overlays because i couldn’t think of a good reason not to. that’s kinda my philosophy on drawing in general tbh
i hope that helped some!! it’s hard to put what i do into words, because it’s really mostly experimenting and judging what looks good by eye. but the major thing i have to recommend would be to just learn the very basics, then just keep trying stuff until you get the effect you want. art is eternal trial and error baby

Could you give us some tips on your drawing process or some about how you use different mode layer! Or the brush you use! SERIOUSLY ANYTHING ABOUT YOU WOULD BE GOLD TO ME💚 have an amazing day💚
Tumblr media
hii !! thank you so much for liking my art !! : D here it is (i dont use it anymore tho, im mostly on twitter now)its pretty old but those are some general tips id give abt lineart(i made the tut when i still used paint tool sai, i mostly use photoshop and procreate on ipad now !)
basically u should play with ur brush density ! also i mostly do clean sketches instead of lineart bc i literally cant do lineart without ripping my hair out LMAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if u take a closer look at my art u can definitely tell that i dont care that much abt lineart and just do whatever LMAOO
my art is so random i swear LOL same goes for coloring i use a lot of color burn nowadays and i edit the colors w curves sometimes colors are just really fun to play with. u can google color palettes if u cant come up with anything atm or use this color wheel id also recommend doing color studies, and learning abt color theory ! heres a tut i did on colors  (its also old - u can tell that i dont use colors like that anymore but the main principle is still the same)
i cant really think of anything else rn so !! if u wanna know something more specific or anything else just shoot me another ask or just message me directly hehe i hope this was helpful !!

Box 1 of Glossy Box
So as most of you know I have an addiction. Some might think it’s shopping, music, movies, food shopping... (Yes, I said it twice lol) Others might have thought it’s handsome men watching...(Well, that’s like a hobby like bird watching HAHA) But truth IS I love makeup. (shoes is the other one ;p) I love trying different looks, enjoy watching youtubers putting makeup. Getting a makeover, samples, etc.  I love to look natural, to classy and depending when and where even crazy (never trashy) My love for makeup started around the age of years old. My parents bought me make it your self makeup kits. I’m talking old school early 80′s barbie style. From the time I was able to wear make (back in my days we waited until our teens) and colors were limited I always wore my “Go to colors” But these days with so many brands out there, different ways to express yourself with colors Sky’s the limits Ladies!
I have a few different subscriptions which I will be writing about. Sharing my thoughts on these beauty subscriptions. Especially if these are good for women over 40! I’m over 40 & proud of it. I’m glad to see my generation embrace our age. We aren’t like our grandmas. Even our mothers who are now grandmother’s are looking amazing with out any medical procedures. Not there is anything wrong with them. Personal I would love to get lip injections and some fillers around my eyes and forehead. But I can’t afford them. (Well explain on another blog)
Let’s get started. Glossy Box offers  5 premium beauty products every month worth over $60 dollars. I signed up for buy 3 boxes for $58 plus one free. Plus Free Shipping and Handling.  I added the links on Glossy and each item I’ve tested so feel free to check them out. Also Glossy Box offer great deals. And if you are a member of  Rakuten you get cash back.  I’ve been waiting to see if Glossy will live up to the hype that I’ve been reading on Instagram
Glossy Box
The packaging  from the shipping box to the product box I was impressed. The shipping box is black with beautiful white logo! So cute! (Yes, I will be adding pictures)
When I got to the box itself I knew that I was going to be in for a real treat... The pretty in pink box with blush pink tissue paper tie up with a black ribbon is very chic.  This packaging sophisticated and chic. As you can tell I really like there packaging. I tend to save boxes for arts and crafts projects, storage and these boxes themselves (aside from all the products) is great to use as a present/ gift box (Christmas and Birthdays)  ;) Let’s be honest pretension is everything! From a scale from 1-5 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, I’m giving them a 5!
The pamphlets: Ladies let be honest, after 40 we know that sooner or later we are going to need reading glasses. One of my problem is, I’m just like my mother who is always losing them. lol Unlike some other beauty boxes the pamphlets have tiny print that you can’t barely read the product information with reading glass and a magnifying glass. And if my nephew is around being he’s only 10 I have to bribe him to read it for me. (Not for an all American Boy lol) Imagine my delight this pamphlet actually have normal size print.  The way the print them balance out of darker and lighter shade that flows well with the pictures of items.Unlike some other beauty boxes they offer one page writing as much as they can squeezed on an 4X6 size paper.  On a scale from 1-5  pamphlet is 5
OK, OK let’s get down to “Nitty Gritty” The AWESOME ITEMS!
5 full side items:
1- Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer
“Lux Be A Lady” (shade’s name) I love this color. it’s a neutral shine soft brown earthy color. It would be approved by The Queen of England for the all the Princess could wear on the list. HAHA (The Queen would hate me I love loud both bright and dark nails HAHA) It’s has a creamy texture with a full brush. Also this product doesn’t have a storng odor like some other nail polish have  I was able to do one hand without having to re dip for more polish. However I suggest that 2 coats per nails will make them look like you got them done at the saloon
2- Sleek MakeUP’s: Sun Is Shining Eye shadow Palette
Has an array of back-to-basic soft nudes, subtle golds and warm peach shades, perfect for chic daytime or nighttime fun! 12 shades of mineral based higly-pigmented Long lasting trust me you don’t have to worry about touching up while at work. During the day have a matte look and before going out on blend those colors. These intense color pay-off! FYI, the price is GREAT! $12.99 which is prefect for us ladies who can’t afford $150 for eye-shadow palettes. This brand truly cares about quality
3- Emma Hardie Purifying Pink Clay Mask:
OK  this is a sample size. But it goes a long way! Aside from being a little on the thick side make sure you put it one lightly. It’s works amazingly well. Putting it on makes me feel like I’m at a spa. You can feel it working. A deep botanical-rich exfoliate purify pink clay mask that: exfoliate, detoxify  balance, and refine pores. Scale from 1-5 I’m give it a 4 My reason I have another clay mask that I like better. But this would be on my top 5 list of face mask for sure.
4- Invisibobble The Waver: I got the clear. Which is good for any women at any age. At first glance I thought it was going to be flimsy especially because I have very think hair. Those that knows me and knows my hair. I’ve been famous for breaking brushing while combing my hair, hair pins, barrettes, even ponytail holders! Lord have mercy!  My hair is like the Hulk without being green. LMAO Well these two little hairpins was able to stay, hold my hair in place when it was 3H outside working on my garden! Scale from 1-5... 5 for sure!
5- Omorovicza Cleaning Foam: This delicately scented blue cleansing foam swiftly purifies and refreshes the skin. It’s sulphate-free. It does an Okay job on removing makeup. Not so much for eye makeup. If you have sensitive skin this product is good for you. On my scale from 1-5 I’m give it 3. I’m on the fence with it.
6- Hask Unwined Provence Rose’ Deep Condition and Brut Rose’ Deep Condition. (I loved both of them. My hair is silky smooth, soft and helps with protecting my hair from harsh chemicals from dying it. I personally liked the smell from Provence Rose a little more.  Scale from 1-5 they both are getting 5. I would buy these for myself and as gifts for my girls.
Well my peeps this sums up my review of box one. I’m still testing box two. Plus I have a few other beauty items I’m excited about writing soon. I hope you all enjoy my review.s Feel me to drop me a line and share with your friends, family and so on!
Have An Amazingly Bless Day!

AMA Transcript: Simple Melody
For our final AMA of Resbang 2017, @alliope, @bbbutterfingers & @daciafu stopped in to answer questions about their Resbang, Simple Melody! Here’s some of what went down:
Q: My first question for Allie is what inspired you to do this AU?
Allie: Well I've generally had the idea for an Over the Garden Wall AU for a while, not necessarily for SE, but as the first check-ins deadline was approaching I ended up rewatching bits of Over the Garden Wall and it just kinda clicked? Mainly I think it came from Crona's betrayal and Beatrice's betrayal and everything fell into place from there. I thought the eerie atmospheres would work well together! So I ended up scrapping my previous idea and wrote 3k plus a summary like three days before the first check-ins, rip.
Q: For butter/dacia, what went into how you decided which scene(s) to art?
butterfingers: HM well there was some chitchat when we started about what kind of work we wanted to do and I said that I loved the Boom comics covers, and then I shouted WHAT IF I MADE  COMIC BOOK COVERS! and I think Dacia went WHAT IF I DID BACKGROUNDS and I guess we just approached it as if we were doing something comic-y haha!
Allie: You two were the power duo.
daciafu: I've always been in love with the style of the backgrounds of OTGW since that's where all those cozy and spooky feelings of fall and the Unknown really shine and I'm honestly HORRIBLE at designing backgrounds so I wanted to take the challenge and push myself to get better! Mimicking other people's styles really helps me break down how they make their choices and teaches me how to make things look Decent so I was super hyped to pick up the OTGW style! And then when Butters and I were trying to figure out What Do and she said she wanted to tackle covers, I decided to do background-heavy scenes. 😊
Q: What is generally your guys’ process (writing for Allie and arting for butters and dacia)?
Allie: Well, I wrote in little scenes, like I would get an idea for a scene and just go for it, the fic wasn't at all coherent until maybe a few days before posting. This actually posed a problem since linking scenes took longer than I thought it would. Because I had most of my scenes written, I thought I had more finished than I really did. By the end of Resbang, I had 56k written but only 20k remotely post-able. I'm a super obsessive planner though, so my whole fic was outlined in detail early on, which was nice cause I knew what I was doing lol
butterfingers: I loved going through Allie's notes, I was always excited to see how they'd connect the dots! My art process is as follows: scribble something, put it aside, look at it a lot throughout the day with the thought that maybe I can surprise myself into seeing something new, find something I hate, fix it, rinse and repeat. For this project I actually... have a friend who works with Boom Comics and she was able to hook me up with a nice little gallery of illustrations for the OTGW comic so I got to go through and put together my mood board for it 😊
daciafu: I read over the gloriousness that was Allie's draft and immediately picked out some neat scenes or wanted to reimagine the classic OTWG ones. I spent a lot of time studying first! Looking at the art books, and poring over the show’s scenes and kind of getting a feel for the color palettes, textures and compositions. Then I watched a tutorial on Youtube where someone just deadass uploaded their painting process on a piece of official art that made it into the show. So that was EXTREMELY helpful to watch the way they painted back-to-front and kind of blended the planes without like, losing depth?? The internet is so, so wonderful. And then I got to work! Started with a soft brush for lineart so it wouldn't be too prevalent, moved onto base colors, then shading, and then really trying to establish textures and make the atmosphere Just Right(tm).
butterfingers: Genius!! Oh damn that sounds like such great advice vis à vis backgrounds. /takes notes
Q: You sound like the dream art partner Allie, I weep for my artists and my last minute HERE IS 10K I JUST TYPED UP BC IM A MESS.
Allie: Ahh geez, these two were the dream partners honestly, like I'm so glad they could gather stuff from my notes, cause I've always got everything together in my head, but then it gets out there and it's a mess, these two deserve all the love.
butterfingers: There was one thing I regret that I didn't have the chance to draw and it was like a throwaway line somewhere in your notes about Maka presenting Soul with a praying mantis and him freaking out. I resonated with that so hard hahaha.
Q: What was the hardest scene for you to write?
Allie: The hardest scene to write that's actually posted was anything with Justin really, I don't get his character and it was tough to write him. There were a few scenes that were hard to write because I rushed them, but I wouldn't say they were genuinely difficult scenes, I just gotta rewrite 'em! But overall the ending scene I'm still struggling to write and there's a dream scene that occurs which has been difficult to write just for making it dream-like enough?
Q: And what was the hardest to art? :o
butterfingers: I had a hard time with Maka's expressions. I had many scribbles designing a Ragnarok lantern, too, but it was very fun!!
Allie: Your design for the Ragnarok lantern was so good, I still cry over it.
butterfingers: Ahaha thank you! He was very Calcifer inspired ;)
daciafu: I struggled quite a bit with the first one I painted, just because it was all so new to me. I had to base color 3 different times because the soft lineart bothered me if something extended too far, or there was white background peeking through. And then reimagining the texture in the leaves and the ground to try to separate the planes there but also wanting them to be cohesive was a bit of a headache. If I had to go back and do that one over again I think I'd be more prepared to deal with the foliage lmao.
butterfingers: Your textures were very excellent, that was a quality I struggled with as well!
daciafu: The first one I painted was the Golden Light scene where Maka and Soul are leaving the woods and entering the fields.
butterfingers: Trees r hard.
Allie: They all came out so incredible though, I'm in awe of how you were able to create those leaves.
daciafu: Omg ;;;;; At the same time trees are so organic and flowy and the chances of getting them wrong are pretty slim considering they can get janked as hell lol they're super fun to just zone out to. "I’ll just put a happy little leaf here, ooh and how’s about another one right next to it. They can be happy friends. Oh look, the squad showed up!!" Channeling my inner Bob Ross... but yeah you can just do whatever with them and they somehow come together.
Q: Daciafu how do u.....background, like you did so well and all I hear from art friends is various levels of pterodactyl screeching when the word background is mentioned.
daciafu: I heavily based the Leafing the Forest scene and the church scene after stills from the show so I don't get composition points there, but I built the pumpkin fields just based off of the environment’s design elements. I really wanted to push the depth of that scene but also give it that same never-ending quality to it, and I'm super happy with the results. Another note is that I omitted the characters entirely while building the backgrounds. Since I'm usually a pretty character-heavy artist, I wanted to tackle it like I was preparing the scene for an animator later. And then once they were done, I added in our sweet kids. Doing it that way first really helped to cement the characters in the space rather than my usual "character is done, how can I put them in an interesting physical space?" struggle lmao.
Q: Did you guys feel like your writing/arting changed at all or that you learned anything/picked up new skills/honed old ones etc. etc. during Resbang?
Allie: Gosh yeah, it changed a lot. In hindsight a bad idea, but this was the first fic I'd ever written with intention of posting and the longest piece I'd ever written. Before this I had written very little and my longest piece was maybe 10k. Throughout Resbang I've learned most of everything from the ground up, it's taught me a lot about my limits, how I work and writing in general. I've definitely improved a lot from the experience!
butterfingers: Let me tell you all about the airbrush tool that I discovered during Resbang. Amazing. Incredible.
daciafu: I learned how to paint backgrounds!!! Which is something I've always wanted to get better at. And I got super comfortable in Clip Studio (I'd just gotten it) as well as using texture brushes, so overall it was a very helpful and wonderful experience as a Resbang participant and as an arteest.
Q: Oh that reminds me butters, what program do you use?
butterfingers: Paint Tool SAI for the most part, and then Photoshop for color correction, borders, and, like, finesse things! :)
Q: Did you guys listen to any music that inspired you or helped you create?
Allie: Ah, yeah! I had a playlist actually! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjTCaFkFU6rkD1edJwCZmHvJiUwlSUeGZ
If you want I can explain some bits of it? I use music a lot when writing aha. I like to associate certain songs with characters and character relationships, so most of the songs are connected to a particular part of the story. The Monroe Transfer, Wayfaring Stranger, and Mountains were all more general atmosphere stuff. Blame was very much related to Maka, which may not be apparent now, but yeah. Ragnarok I actually connected a lot with Willow Tree March. Soul was probably closest with A Lady. Crona had a lot of songs, but Neptune was most specific to them, as was probably Ghost Towns. Some character relationships I associated with certain songs, Crona-Ragnarok and Soul-Maka were both pretty connected to Always Gold, especially that dang last line "there were holes in you, the kind that I could not mend" oh man. Crona-Maka was definitely We Could Be Friends, Bloom, and Spell. Meet Me in The Woods I thought was a pretty good group song! Those are just some general bits of my thinking with the music aha.
daciafu: Definitely checked out Allie's dope playlist. For most of my working time, tho, I was either listening to TAZ: Commitment or MBMBaM oddly enough lol. I will forever think of Justin's uproarious laughter whenever I look at them lmao.
Q: Were any of the relationships difficult to characterize?
Allie: Mmm this may sound weird but early Maka-Crona was weird for me, cause they were kinda at that point where they want to (or at least Maka wants to) like each other, but they don’t like or trust each other at all and it's a weird spot for them. I'm used to writing them as at least interested by one another, if not enemies or already fond of one another, so this felt like a very odd place to start with them.
Q: Do you guys have future plans for writing/drawing? Aside from polishing and posting the rest of the fic!
Allie: I have,,, too many plans,, I need less plans,, someone please take them away from me, I can't be trusted with them,,,, I do want to do a sequel for this when I get it finished, playing on the detail about crows memory lasting five years so. Beyond that I have a SoMa fic to finish for the prompt challenge!! I'm working on a gift for Crescentcrona, which is a fantasy Kirona fic called Eat The Rich. I have polyam week fics that I'm cleaning up, I think my favorite so far is a Azusa/Naigus/Sid/Mifune one for Through The Seasons. And God I have so many CroMa fics I want to write, I gotta fill the AO3 tag. I think the biggest one right now is a wings-related soulmates au that I've been working on on the side since October I think?
daciafu: Yo there's one scene that I'm like sUPER hyped to do if Allie does the sequel because I already know exactly how I wanna draw it but I wasn't able to fit that in near the end, and it didn't end up in the first part. But there are a couple of other scenes Allie and I workshopped that would be super fun to do and I would love to draw them. Other than that, my drawing plans are pretty much working on commissions as they come in. Surprisingly my queue has been maxed out and I just got a full time job so of course now I'm like.... hm.... I'll get 'em done eventually!!

That’s the end of the AMAs for the 2017 season! Thanks again for reading along with us, and see you next year! :)

I love the Oracle games so much, Moosh was my fav. Never managed to get Dimitris flute :(. I think my "problem" with LA is that it was so hyped up and then I played it and it was a bit of a letdown in comparison. And I noticed very little difference between OG and HD TP, a bit of a shame. Though I'd argue the darker tones fit the general mood of the game, it is so brown. LoZ doesn't actually do remakes well, OoT and MM for the 3ds were also a bit disappointing. Always with the eyes.. - Pokenon
i love moosh!! he’s so cute. i ended up with dimitri on accident, and i like his “story” the best bc you have to rescue him and his horn is broken... poor baby...
link’s awakening isn’t a very “big” game, i can sorta see being let down. and i didn’t love that they replaced the photos with the dungeon maker, i thought that was really tedious. but the graphics and gameplay were such a boost though from the original, i could actually get the no-deaths bonus scene! i’m so bad at older games. the og loz was easy but idk how anyone beat zelda ii without save states....
i think their remakes are hit or miss tbh. wind waker hd was great, it looked fantastic and they improved on the biggest flaws of the original. i played the 3ds version of both oot and mm, and it does have a different feeling when you play something handheld. doesn’t feel quite as epic. (plus the stupid moon segment at the end of mm with the goron mask was a nightmare to control...) but i didn’t grow up with the n64, so when i tried a gamecube port of oot i struggled a lot with how it played lol. i wasn’t blown away by the 3ds graphics for sure, but for me the controls are (mostly) easier
i know a lot of people love tp and it’s in my top ten for sure, but i think they missed a big opportunity with the remake to actually update the graphics bc i just... never liked how it looked. the characters had a great style (except link with his badly rendered hair and face, rip) and the focus on architecture was really cool, castle town and hyrule castle looked great and so did the snowpeak mansion. but the other areas were just... very brown and blurry. it all felt muddy. i know graphics don’t make or break a game, but i got a little tired of the environments, and even though i’m never gonna prefer that “realistic” muted color palette i would’ve loved to see what tp would look like with today’s graphics :( bc the official art looks great and i love the gothic aesthetic
in the end though i just like my zelda to be colorful lmao. mm had a dark story but a colorful palette. and i’m excited that botw 2 is supposed to have a darker story. i wanna see some redeads

Sunflowers
Pairing: Jhope x Reader
Genre: Fluff, Non AU
Summary: Y/N works at a small local art supply store while she is a university student studying art in Korea, and one day she receives a really unexpected customer at the worst of times.  (Or the one where Y/N has the pleasure of meeting one of her idols, but of course it had to be when her hair was a mess and she was covered head to toe in paint splatters.)
Word Count: 2,447
A/N: This was a request from the lovely @kdrawvh , who has recently been sharing in my lack of loyalty and slipping into hoseok’s lane along with me,,,,thanks for always being there with me lmao.  Hope you enjoy this, lovely! (Btw: Fine pupper ;))) )
Whenever the dialogue in quotes is bolded, it means someone is speaking korean  idk korean so im writing it in english but pretend they’re speaking korean they’re in korea okay
I imagine him looking something like this for this story (the image isn’t mine):
Tumblr media
It had been a pretty slow day at the small art store.  Not too many customers, not too many deliveries, and not too many interruptions in general.  Y/N was fairly pleased because this meant that she had basically had the majority of her 7 hour shift to herself to work on her painting behind the counter at the front of the small store.  Her unlimited access to all of the supplies the store sold was one of the main reasons she took the job in the first place, so it always brightened her mood just a little more when she actually had time to use those supplies.
Y/N was just in the middle of re-tying her hair up in a ponytail after it had fallen out for the umpteenth time that day, when the bell above the door rang.  With her hands full, she couldn’t really take out the paintbrush she was holding between her teeth while she finished tying her hair.
“Jamkkanman (just a moment),” she tried to mumble, turning to flash as much of a smile as she could at the middle-aged lady who had just entered the shop.  Being an exchange student in Korea, Y/N always found herself forgetting the local customs and social norms, so she had to remind herself to return the polite bow the customer had given her in greeting.
After rushing to finish her ponytail, Y/N set down her paintbrush in the pot of brown paint she had been using and went to ask the customer if she needed assistance with her shopping.  The lady had refused her help kindly, so Y/N returned to the front counter (and her beloved canvas) to continue her work.  The mood was just exactly right for her due to the dusky sunlight streaming in through the store’s large front windows, and due to the soft songs that were currently playing over the loudspeaker from Y/N’s phone.
Thank god I didn’t forget to bring my AUX cord today...or else I wouldn’t have had decent music to listen to.
Soon enough the customer left without purchasing anything, and Y/N said goodbye and bowed as she watched the woman’s back move further down the street.  With every step farther the woman took, Y/N’s excitement grew all the more until she finally turned the corner and was out of sight completely.
This meant that Y/N could go back to her painting.
She silently cheered and smiled to herself while pumping one fist in the air, before standing back to admire the picture so far.  She had to reacquaint herself with the subject before continuing her shading and coloring with the multiple colors of paints she had out on the large easel she was using.
Y/N had chosen a rather complicated source of inspiration today: Van Gogh’s Sunflower painting.  It was complicated not because of the subject of the painting, but because Y/N wanted to paint the sunflowers in a simultaneously different and similar way to Van Gogh, which was not something easy to accomplish.  She desired to make the painting her own somehow, but it was so hard when all she wanted to do was recreate the perfection that Van Gogh had created already all those many years ago.  Y/N once again picked up her wood palette in her left hand after considering the painting for a few more seconds, and picked up her brush with her right hand to begin mixing a dusty yellow color to shade in part of the flowers’ petals.
But again, just as she had finished with the shading, she was interrupted by the small bell above the door chiming happily, and Y/N sighed quietly to herself before turning around, but her standard greeting died in her throat when she didn’t see the customer she expected to see.  With a furrowed brow, she peered curiously at the front door, but relaxed a little when she heard rustling down one of the aisles and then saw a flash of movement in the back of the store as (what appeared to be) a young man moved from aisle to aisle.
“Do you need help finding anything today, sir?”  Y/N tried to speak loudly so that the customer would hear her, wherever he was in the small store.
“Ah, no, thank you!  I think I can find it okay on my own!”  Y/N started to turn back to her painting with a small smile on her lips, but a nagging voice in the back of her mind told her that she had heard that voice somewhere before.
And as much as she tried to ignore it, she could not, so she closed her eyes and slapped her cheeks a little to make herself focus again before turning away from the store aisles and back to her artwork.  She chose an orange color this time and began to mix it with some brown paint that was already on her palette.  One of her favorite songs, Spring Day by BTS, started to play over the speaker and she found herself unable to resist humming along to the familiar tune even though there was another person in the store.
Little did she know, but the man that had entered the shop had realized he actually did need help finding his desired supplies, and had approached the front counter to ask for help, but was now captivated by the sight and sound of the young artist at work.  Her hair was askew and falling out of her pony tail, and there were dots (and larger, more intentional spots) of paint all over the girl; from what the man could see, the paint seemed to be everywhere from her hair, to her forehead, to her black t-shirt that sported the name of the shop, to the jeans that were cinched loosely around her waist with a belt that was, you guessed it, also covered in paint splotches.  But all of this didn’t matter to the man, and it may have even enhanced the image of the almost ethereal girl that was glowing in the sun and painting it’s flowers, while singing one of his band’s songs.
As he watched, he looked for an appropriate time to get the girl’s attention, and luck seemed to be on his side when the girl set down her paintbrush a few moments later in favor of fixing her ponytail again for the third time that hour.
“Ah, excuse me miss...” said the man, watching the girl’s shoulders jump slightly as she was startled.  He thought time would stop as she turned and he was finally face to face with her, able to finally meet the eyes that he had wanted to see ever since he heard her cheery, yet pensive voice ringing out across the shop.
Now Y/N, admittedly, had chosen to study art abroad in Korea with the thought in the back of her mind that she would maybe, possibly, if the heavens were on her side, get to meet some of the idols of kpop she had admired and cherished for years (although she would never say it out loud).  But never did she expect to be given that chance on a random Thursday afternoon, at her job, with flyaway hairs running wild and paint all over herself.
Her humming to the chorus of Spring Day caught in the back of her throat as she found herself in front of one of her idols, Jung Hoseok himself, otherwise known as her hope, her angel, J-Hope.
Y/N struggled to find her voice while her mouth flopped uselessly open and closed because J-Hope was right in front of her and he was staring at her and their eyes were meeting and he wasn’t looking away and-
“I was uh...singing your song..rather off-key if I do say so myself..”
Y/N looked down at her shoes as she cursed herself for thinking that was a good thing to say first to the man she had often dreamed of meeting in person.  Although she was forced to look back up at Hoseok when he smiled the sweetest smile and replied that it was fine and that he actually rather liked her version of the song; she couldn’t just not look at the source of the voice that was dripping in honey and happiness even more than she had heard over her speakers for so long.  After hearing that J-Hope actually liked her rendition of Spring Day, Y/N felt like she could die there and then with no regrets, but she remembered that she still had a job to do and managed to stutter out a nervous “how can I help you today”.
“Ah, do you know BTS?  I’m assuming you do since you knew all the words to our song, but you could just like that song y’know...I started rambling again didn’t I?  Sorry, I tend to do that alot, anyways, you know our Jin-Hyung, right?  Well, he’s making more of his famous hearts to send to ARMY during our next concert and he needs a giant sheet of red poster paper and glitter, do you know where I could find that?”
Hoseok was normally not nearly as nervous as he was around Y/N, but for some reason he found himself greatly affected by the innocent and almost reverent way she stared at him wide-eyed as he spoke.
Y/N was having almost the same problem as she tried to comprehend the fact that Jung-Fucking-Hoseok was live and in person a foot away from her while also trying to understand the rapid-fire Korean that the same man had spit in his haste to ask his question.  Now she definitely knew his rapping skills were no joke.
Composing herself as best as she could, Y/N finally answered Hoseok with only a smile (one that dazzled his eyes and made him feel like he had actually been staring at the sun instead of at a human woman), and beckoned for him to follow her down one of the aisles where she knew the paper, glue, and glitter was kept.
“I think you’ll also need some glue, unless you guys have that already...”.  Y/N stopped abruptly so that she could lean over and rummage through a drawer of different bottles of red glitter, and Hoseok had to stop himself from bumping into her and knocking the poor girl over, leading to him being slightly more flustered than he already was.
But Y/N had already lost most of her nervousness, slipping into her comforting world of arts and crafts, and almost forgetting that she was currently standing next to one of the world’s most popular Korean idols. Almost.
A nervous silence settled over the two as Y/N continued to gather the paper and glitter that Hoseok had requested, and as Hoseok continued to try his best not to stare at the girl before him and trace the paint on her skin with his eyes.
They both tried to speak at the same time, effectively shutting them both up and having the exact opposite affect of what they had wanted previously.  But this only made them start laughing really loudly, and soon both Hoseok and Y/N were practically rolling on the floor.  They had both been so nervous that their feelings had manifested in the form of almost-maniacal laughter.
Once they had both started to sober up, Y/N showed the glitter she had selected to Hoseok for his approval, and he had smiled fondly at her while nodding in confirmation that her artistic judgement was indeed perfect.
“Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it perfect but...”
Hoseok couldn’t help but let his lower jaw drop open in surprise before realizing his mistake and fixing his expression once more.  “Did I...did I say that out loud just now?”
Y/N just giggled (and Hoseok swore it was even an more beautiful sight and sound than Jin-hyung singing and playing Awake on the guitar) before nodding a yes in his direction.  Hoseok simply laughed a little at himself as he awkwardly ran a hand through his hair, while in his mind he was praying to every single one of his lucky stars that he could make it out of the store without embarrassing himself further.
Y/N kept laughing quietly to herself at how much cuter Hoseok was in real life as she continued to lead him down the aisle to collect the rest of the things he needed.  Once they were all done, Y/N and Hoseok made their way to the front counter.
“Ah, Y/N, let me carry all that stuff.  I am the one buying it after all.”
Y/N felt her stomach flip and fireworks go off in her heart when she heard her name falling from Hoseok’s lips; it was something she never thought she would get to hear (considering she had also forgotten that she was wearing a nametag on her uniform shirt).  It was all she could do to stop herself from squealing, so she started to ring up Hoseok’s items in a valiant effort to distract herself.
But as any reasonable person knows, it is rather hard to ignore the actual sun when it is brightly watching and smiling at you from mere inches away as you scan barcodes and tap on electronic touchscreens.
Y/N managed to slip into a comfortable silence within herself, when Hoseok chose to shatter it with his next words.  Y/N hadn’t even noticed that she had finished ringing him up and charging his credit card, pushing a receipt and a pen at him for him to sign.
“I really like your take on the Van Gogh, by the way.  Those sunflowers remind me of you a little.”
Hoseok felt a tiny smirk spread on his lips as he saw the way Y/N’s eyes widened slightly at the wink he threw her way, impressed at himself for how quickly he was able to get his butt in gear and actually start flirting with the girl he had found attractive since the moment he had walked into the store.
He quickly finished signing the receipt and turned it around so that it faced Y/N once more, and left the store with a quiet “thank you” and one more sunny smile thrown over his shoulder.
Y/N felt a similar smile overtake her features as she looked down at his receipt that now bore his familiar autograph, along with his chat ID on a popular messaging app.  Y/N couldn’t believe she had taken the tiny bells above the door for granted for so long, as they were what had alerted her to her dream come true in the first place; she would make sure to never forsake the little silver bells again.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed, and don’t be afraid to like, reblog, and tell me your thoughts/comments!
