homework piling up?
It’s that time of the semester! homework assignments missing assignments! sometimes, even when you think you have all of it done another one pops up! Keeping up can be really hard. I have a tendency to procrastinate which I’m sure we all do. Here are some things that I found that I hope to practice. Thank you West coast University for giving us these tips!
Work in a quiet room or area where you’re less likely to be distracted or interrupted. (Check out our 5 tips for setting up your study space for success.)
Put your phone on airplane mode while you study or complete assignments.
Remove social media apps from your phone for a while.
Don’t try to study while watching TV, listening to a podcast, etc.
If you work well with music, put on your best study playlist. (It may help to choose something instrumental so you don’t start singing along!)
If you need a change of scenery, find a new place to study like the library, a coffee shop, or your patio.
If you’re a parent and you’re able to do so, set a time when your significant other, a family member, or anyone else willing to help can watch your kids for a while so you can focus 100% on your schoolwork.
If you keep thinking about other things while studying, write them down so you can clear your mind and refocus on the task at hand.
Take regular breaks so you don’t get burned out.

Nursing school tip: If you’re not a planner type of person and need a way to organize all your due dates & clinical hours, print out a monthly template. I like to have a separate monthly page just for all my assignments and clinical hours because it’s easier for me to distinguish school from home. I also keep these monthly pages in front of my three-ring binder with a clear pocket in the front. As you can see here, I also color coded my classes. This term I have Public Health lecture/clinical & Leadership, each one has a dedicated color that I will use throughout the entire term. I plan before each term once I receive the syllabus & I try to add in all the due dates that I know will not change first. Usually during the first lecture, the professor will finalize due dates, so that’s when I add in the rest of my assignments. If there are due dates or appointments that are not finalized yet, use a small post-it note on that date and once you know for sure when its due, then write it in the calendar. The print out I use is from @emmastudiess. You can follow her on IG and she has webpage (emmastudies.com). She has calendar print outs that has a Monday or Sunday start, which is great. I use the Monday start because that’s when the new week for my classes start. If you would like to see more tips, please follow and tag your friends! Acronyms have been the way of the world for a while. Using initials instead of writing out in entirety is time saving, but in healthcare can cause confusion and sometimes lead to errors. Sister Molla, back in the days of my hospital based training drummed, in the importance of clear, concise and complete documentation (without abbreviations) before I ever came to the land of litigation. If social media has taught me anything, it is that even abbreviations can have abbreviations. For example @thebossieaussiern could be #barn or #tbarn; #livingwithexcellence >#lwe. Using #barn with 2,732,248 IGposts would certainly garner great exposure. #lwe with 16k IG posts would bring me before individuals & groups like #latinwomensexpo a Russian band #lwebass and a London DJ #misdix . The Latin Womens Expo is a good fit. The band and the DJ, not so much in need of what I have to offer.
