Ninja Academy vs Hero School Rant
Naruto was my jam back in the day. I stayed up late to watch the new episodes, bought the dvd box sets and manga volumes, collected toys and cards just to stare at adoringly, even pretended to be sick so that I could stay home and watch a Naruto marathon. Point is, I LOVED Naruto.
I was invested in the characters. My heart ached for every single character that gave me a backstory. I ugly cried on more than ten occasions.
The action and moral dilemmas sucked me in and spit me out, made me the person I am today thinking critically about the stuff I love because wow that universe is in no way safe or sane for the people living in it lol.
The villains absolutely TERRIFIED me DESPITE STILL WANTING TO SEE MORE OF THEM, Orochimaru alone had me sleeping with the lights on and ripping the arms off his action figure just to be safe.
When I started watching My Hero Academia those old happy feelings started slapping me in the face drawing me in. MHA hits a lot of the same points that Naruto had and I didn’t really notice until the end of season 3 because those points weren’t as in-your-face or emotionally impactful as it was in Naruto I guess. Not to say it didn’t have an impact! Just that it rolled off me a lot easier which might just be a me problem.
I Mean:
The main character getting bullied/excluded because of something he can’t control.
Underdog character then meeting or making an emotional connection with a mentor figure truly feeling “acceptance” for maybe the first time and taking that all important first step toward their life long dream.
A teacher willing to sacrifice himself to protect the students.
A school training teens to protect/serve.
Rivalry that may or may not be actual friendship.
Students fighting against each other to “rank up” by showing how capable they are to their superiors.
Enemies invading to terrorize the kids and escaping to terrorize another day.
Traumatic family backstories that child will now attempt to seek justice through own power.
Previous underdog character actually having a secret power that no one knows about but a select few and that he has to train to learn how to use, but it makes him a powerhouse that is always surprising the enemy and inspiring his fellows.
Sure all that can be tied to any story when generalized like this, but the way MHA presents them is pretty similar to Naruto.
(Okay, ALL OF THIS is going to be my personal opinion. Things I want to say to get out of my system so that I can move on. It’s long too. So, now that you’ve been warned continue on.)
The more I got into it the stranger it felt because despite hitting those same points I loved they hit in a different way that....well... made me a little uncomfortable to sit through.
Like Aizawa
Very clearly the Kakashi in MHA. He’s sly hardly ever telling his students the truth but has incredibly high expectations of them, has been known to expel students left and right until his most recent batch of kids, is ready and willing to throw himself in harms way for them, and surprisingly competent despite his exhausted persona/personality. However the way these two teachers act get two very different results from me. Naruto got a chance to introduce Kakashi in a way that endeared him to me, the bell test was more than just showcasing the kids current abilities it was introducing Kakashi (the Jounin that is a kind of jack of all trades, the known perv that will publicly read porn, the guy that will happily mess with a bunch of kids to “teach them a lesson” and because its funny, the guy that requires the students under his care to care about each other because caring for his team matters to him more than any mission, that guy). MHA gave the quirk test. Aizawa mostly in the background taking notes and jotting down scores after his speech about expelling whoever comes last. We didn’t get to hear Aizawa’s thoughts until the very end when Izuku surprised him.
I didn’t really feel any connection toward Aizawa until I stumbled across fanfics that wrote him more involved with the students and I think that’s the problem. Aizawa is dedicated to his student’s education, he believes they will all be amazing heroes one day, but he hardly ever interacts with them. He can be seen watching their training from afar, sleeping in a corner as another teacher takes over for a bit, protecting them from danger or fighting along side them, and proudly declaring that Bakugo would never turn villain but all of that means very little emotionally when I can’t see him making connections with these students to make this standoffish confidence understandable. He comes off as one of those super smart teachers that have undecipherable lessons because he has no idea how to connect with his students enough to explain in way they understand. Similarly, he like jots down that he’s taking note of Bakugo and might need to step in before he goes down the wrong path but then does nothing and confidently tells the press Bakugo would never be a villain.
Kakashi was pretty standoffish too, no denying that, and the little episodes when the kids conspire to try to see him without his mask are the kind of outside interactions that would be weird for a modern teacher-student relationship like in MHA, so I get why Aizawa doesn’t really have that with any of the kids. However, Kakashi saw the path Sasuke was going down and spent time with him and confronted him about it (it did nothing to stop him but he tried). He took time to find a teacher for Naruto. He was present and awake for just about every milestone in there education with him. He told them when he was proud of them not other people. He involved himself in some of their high jinks to measure their growth and as such was able to have confidence in them when they went off on their own.
The Villains
And My Hero Academia villains, namely All For One.
I felt nothing when he showed up. I was all caught up in All Might and his passing of the torch. The guy without eyes didn’t feel threatening, didn’t feel like the big bad he was suppose to be. The League of Villains really didn’t feel like “serious enemies” either cause I actually really enjoyed them when they were on screen for their dynamics with each other. Similar to how I liked the Akatsuki in their more light-hearted scenes when they where super strong idiots banded together by sheer force of will and explosive personalities that refuse to leave a job half finished. With the League I would be just as entertained (probably more so) if they were in a slice of life anime just being terrible people together.
I get the feeling All For One was supposed to be MHA’s Orochimaru. (And I say this despite knowing Orochimaru’s introduction is probably a lot closer to Stain what with the confrontation and all, but his whole “the world is corrupt, I will cut out the wrong and remake it into the pure world it should have always been” aligned more with Pain especially with his quick turnabout saving Izuku.)
Orochimaru always felt in control even when he was in hiding or on the run, he felt like he had more up his sleeve which is the only thing I got from All For One when he was imprisoned. Both Orochimaru and All For One showed up out of nowhere, very obviously in a class of their own that the teenage main characters had no hope of beating, and a mysterious backstory that clearly put all the adults in the know on edge. But I just don’t see All For One as a villain. Nothing about him screamed “Run for your lives this man will smile as he tears you apart!” like Orochimaru. Nothing about All For One’s secret Mad Scientist lab gave me creepy vibes that left me on the edge of my seat clutching at the nearest pillow the way the Sound Village that practically worshiped Orochimaru and the many base of operations he had did.
Terrible Parents
The Todoroki family.
...
Look. The world of Naruto has terrible parenting, but they also live in a dictator/military run nation where kids can be a front-line defense or key players in a war zone so it’s hard to measure how to view these people. Cause a father that beats his kid and yells at him to get stronger has genuine reasons to rightfully freak out when children as young as 8 get sent to ninja academy. Families that have a rare genetic trait like the Hyuga or Uchiha have every right to be tough and stern if they feel that will protect their kids when they know putting them out into the world makes them an easier target for enemies that would rip out their eyes.
I can judge their actions based on their consequences. Like the Uchiha clan planning a revolt forcing their eldest to massacre them to keep the peace and their youngest to live with a crazy amount of trauma. Like the Hyuga clan branding their branch members to protect family eyes, but forcing them into being lesser than the main branch and all the trauma that forced on Neji’s poor head. The stupid level of expectation set on Hinata’s young shoulders that she couldn’t meet in the way her clan wanted that made her self-confidence practically non existent. The Hokage leaving Naruto mostly alone for his entire childhood in a village that openly hated him. The Kazekage trying to have his lonely three-year-old assassinated multiple times once by his beloved uncle - the only person that was kind and loved him - that scarred him so entirely that he carved “love” into his forehead and rampaged around the village and did casual murder intentionally for years before meeting Naruto.
All that... I can get behind as abuse. I want those sad kids to be happy. They deserved better and I will happily lose myself in a fix-it fic where they get that.
MHA gives me similar scenarios but without the clear-cut consequences that shows when parenting for that world is abuse.
Endeavor is not a good husband. He is emotionally abusive to his wife to the point she has a mental break and attacks a child.
However, in a world of heroes, in a world where high school students are trained to protect and serve and that self sacrifice is a noble heroic trait. How do I compare such a society to my own? They put children in harms way with hero internships yet don’t allow them to defend themselves if they don’t have a hero license, that would be like getting a learners permit but not being allowed to practice driving.
All this to say I have a hard time telling when bad parenting falls into abuse when it comes to MHA. Endeavor is not a good parent, he is an abusive husband, but is he an abusive parent? As a hero training up the next generation of heroes can it be argued that he is pretty okay even if his methods are a little harsh? None of his children fear him from what I’ve seen. Shouto happily tells him his plans to never use his fire and all the reasons why without fearing he might be punished for it. The other kids seem to be pretty okay going on with their lives. Toya being the exception but again I don’t know what happened to him and he’s a follower of Stain so did he have a falling out with heroes or did his father push too hard?
Nighteye & Tsunade
Okay so this is where I get super rant-y. I have feelings on Nighteye and none of them good.
Nighteye being the estranged comrade of All Might the underdog’s teacher, Tsunade being the estranged comrade of Jiraiya Naruto’s teacher.
Tsunade has been hurt deeply. She ran because she felt that was the only way to save herself from more pain. Here comes Jiraiya with his new little tag along demanding she come back home, she gets appropriately angry and tries everything she can to get them to leave her alone. Naruto being the special little underdog that he is immediately gets under her skin reminding her of all the loved ones she lost bringing back all of that old pain back, so she gets even. She beats him down and challenges him to an impossible challenge to show him how small he really is and get out of her own responsibilities. But he wins. He wins, and shows Tsunade how closed off she’s become forcing her to face reality head on and face her fears at last. He changes her whole world view through action.
Nighteye has been hurt deeply. He sees the future for every person he touches and as such sees futures in which people he loves get hurt and sometimes die. He believes there is nothing he or anyone can do to change these visions. All Might is his hero, His friend and mentor, his comrade. His friend gets hurt in a way he can never fully recover from and he sees a vision where his friend dies on the battle field. He then tells All Might who refuses to retire and leaves without a backward glance. They don’t speak until years later when Nighteye picks out a successor for One For All, but Toshi chooses Izuku and never meets Nighteye’s pick.
Izuku, needing an internship not Gran Torino, goes to Sir Nighteye All Might’s old side kick. He gets tested, told he’s not worthy of One For All, and has to work under this man as he tries to get Izuku to see how Mirio is more worthy of All Might’s quirk. Facing off against Overhaul when they are at their most desperate Nighteye uses his quirk to see what will happen and sees the worst possible scenario. They lose. Then Izuku flies in sweeps Eri into his arms and fights Overhaul saving the day. Izuku proved, unknowingly, that the future Nighteye sees is not set in stone with his actions and on his death bed Nighteye acknowledges that without acknowledging it.
Nighteye’s treatment toward Izuku makes me uncomfortable. This is a man in a position of power over this student telling him that he is not enough, will never be enough, and that he is a disappointment.
His glorifying of All Might makes me uncomfortable. He was All Might’s partner and yet he practically had a shrine of the man in his office. He made him more than just a man, built him up as The Symbol of Peace and kept him there (as many of Toshi’s friends seem to do except for Nedzu and Naomasa) despite getting close enough trusted enough to learn about One For All. And despite all that “love” and “devotion” he left Toshinori alone to deal with his new normal of a permanently damaged system alone for years then takes out all that frustration and grief out on his friends chosen successor.
Then when all is said and done and he’s dying and he’s confronted by Toshinori and Izuku what happens? Does he apologize? Explain his actions? Get closure in his final moments?
No. Well, Toshinori got some measure of closure. Izuku got a few words that essentially boiled down to “Good job, your better than I thought.” without talking about the newfound hope Izuku’s action gave him that his visions are only possibilities not absolute. All of his attention then goes to his choice for One For All, Mirio.
Understandably.
He’s dying and Mirio was always his main priority as a mentor, and you know who Mirio looks like? All Might. He’s blonde, buff, blue-eyed, cheerfully friendly, and with a happy-go-lucky persona about him. Sir Nighteye taught him to smile. Chose him to be the new wielder of One For All and without telling him anything planned to introduce him to Toshinori to make his choice reality. Doesn’t that sound... I don’t know... uncomfortably close to manipulation? Grooming? To taking this child under his wing and molding him to be pretty close to a new version of All Might?
I don’t know. Maybe if Sir Nighteye had lived this uncomfortable impression I have of him would be lessened as he began to internalize the full extent of possibilities for the future that he never thought possible before and acted more hopeful, more willing to take gambles because his visions were no longer a guarantee of what will happen.

(Quick recap in italics cus I know it’s been a HOT minute since I updated this...)
Shinso smirks as Izuku eyes gloss over.
“That’s it. I win.” I sigh. It was just like Shinso said; he’d get his opponents under his Quirk, and then it would be over. With no one close enough to jolt Izuku out of Shinso’s control, Shinso could secure victory fairly easily.
He might even be able to win the entire festival just using his Quirk. As long as he could get people to talk to him he’d win.
“Aaahhh! I warned him not to say anything!” Oijiro groans, hands on his head. He was hoping he’d helped Izuku win against Shinso.
To be honest, I’m not terribly surprised at this outcome. Shinso knows how to get people to talk, even if it is a bit harsh.
“Hey, what’s the dealyo?!” Dad cries, “This is the first match, and it’s started with a bang! The fight has just begun and Izuku Midoriya is completely frozen!”
I watch as Izuku remains still, awaiting Shinso’s order to walk out of bounds. If something doesn’t change, Izuku will lose this match and be out of the tournament!
The crowd is completely silent after witnessing Izuku suddenly stop short.
“He’s not moving a muscle!” Dad exclaims as Izuku continues to stand there, awaiting orders.
“Shit, Shinso…” I murmur, fingers gripping my PE outfit tightly as tense seconds go by. “I forget how intimidating you can be.” I’d never really seen him fight, now I think about it. Or even use his Quirk, really.
Sure, he was a bit rough around the edges sometimes, but he had never truly struck me as intimidating before this moment.
Now, I was seeing my friend through the eyes of an opponent. Izuku must be terrified if he’s even aware of what’s going on.
Hitoshi told me he was never sure if the people under his Quirk were simply watching helplessly as they obeyed his orders, or if they truly didn’t know they were brainwashed.
I can’t tell which would be worse, honestly.
I knew, either way, it wasn’t an entirely pleasant experience, which led to so many people pegging my friend as a villain.
“And what’s with that look on his face?” Dad continues, and I do notice Izuku’s lifeless expression. Poor guy… “Could this be a Quirk at work?” I knew Dad knew about Shinso’s Quirk, but the commentator in Dad couldn’t help being dramatic. “Hitoshi Shinso seems to have Izuku Midoriya completely stunned!” The crowd is beginning to react to the fight now, murmuring amongst themselves as Dad continues his commentary. “He didn’t stand out in the first round, but it’s possible Shinso’s crazy powerful!”
I laugh a little at Dad’s enthusiastic commentary style and watch on the large screen as he moves wildly about in his seat while he talks. “Who could have predicted this turn of events?!” He asks rhetorically. “That’s the Festival for yah!” He chirps and I laugh harder. My dad was crazy, but I loved him.
Then mom’s voice stalls Dad’s laughter. “This is a perfect example of why the entrance exam isn’t rational.” Mom points out and I get her meaning a few seconds later.
After all, robots couldn’t be brainwashed, or have their Quirks canceled out. So, Mom and Shinso are in the same boat. No wonder she hates the entrance exam so much! She probably started where Hitoshi is now, clawing her way into the Hero Course and becoming the amazing hero she is today.
“Huh?” Dad asks, slowly coming down off his commentating high and not quite processing what Mom had said just yet. “Why’s that, honey?”
“Since we’re on to the individual matches, I had some information compiled about our final competitors. Shinso failed the practical exam to get into the Hero Course. Since he also applied for the General Studies course, he probably figured that would happen. His Quirk is incredibly strong, but that entrance test consisted of fighting faux villains; robots. It gives a huge advantage to those with physical superpowers they could show off. Despite his abilities, Shinso never stood a chance of passing.”
Hitoshi and Izuku don’t react to my parents’ discussion.
Hitoshi seems to tense up. “So, here we are. You’re lucky to have been so blessed, Izuku Midoriya.” He notes, almost menacingly. He then tilts his head back a little and to one side almost casually. “Now turn around and walk out of bounds like a good little hero.” He instructs.
Izuku does, marching slowly toward the edge of the ring.
Dad gasps. “What?!” He cries. “Midoriya’s obeying him!”
“Not that Izuku has a choice.” I mumble to myself.
“Oh no, Deku!” Ochako exclaims worriedly. “What’re you doing?”
“Hang on, folks!” Dad calls as Izuku continues his shambling toward the edge. “Babe, hand me that file would yah?” On the screen, I see Mom handing Dad Hitoshi’s file and he reads the description of Hitoshi’s quirk aloud.
Ochako then turns to me. “Don’t you know this Shinso guy?” She asks.
I nod. “Yeah. We went to middle school together. He’s a good person, he’s just very driven and focused.” I explain. “Most people assume he’s gonna be a villain with his Quirk, but he wants to prove them wrong and become a great hero.”
“Whoa! I had no idea...that’s so cool!” Trust Ochako to be so open and trusting. Since I vouched for him she accepted my word and didn’t doubt my friend. “Still, though, you were right about him being focused. He’s so intense, too!”
I chuckle a little. “Yeah he is. You get used to it.”
“Either way, Modiriya will lose this match if he can’t stop himself from walking out of the ring!” Tenya reminds us and I bite my lip.
While I wanted Hitoshi to do really well in this festival and get into the Hero Course, I also didn’t want Izuku to lose.
I was so torn, I couldn’t pay attention as Dad continued to talk about Shinso’s quirk and how it wasn’t flashy and yet it was super powerful...or something.
“You okay?” Eijiro asks suddenly.
I shake myself. “Y-yeah. It’s just that I’m not sure who to root for here.” I try for a chuckle but it fades quickly.
“I can imagine.” Eijiro’s eyes watch Hitoshi and I swear there’s something like anger or maybe something else in his eyes for only a second, then he smiles a little. “After all, it’s two of your friends down there. I wouldn’t know who to root for either, Kara.”
Down below, I can see Hitoshi saying something, but I can’t quite make it out...then I notice the other person in the ring.
“Damn, look how close Izuku is to the edge!” I squeak, leaning forward. If something doesn’t change, Izuku will lose! “C’mon, c’mon! There’s gotta be something that’ll snap him- -”
Suddenly, there’s a loud noise and a huge gust of wind bursts from Izuku, sweeping up and over the crowd.
While it was kinda refreshing, I needed to know if Izuku had won or not. I lean back out a bit and look to see Izuku barely in the ring, panting heavily.
Had he been fighting the whole time, just able to wiggle his fingers at the last minute to discharge One for All and create the stimulation needed to break out of Hitoshi’s hold?
“What’s this?!” Dad exclaims in surprise. “Midoriya’s stopped just in time!”
“Yeah! Go, Izuku!” I cheer automatically.
“That’s the way to do it!” Tenya adds.
“Whoa! I was about to freak out!” Ochako sighs in relief, all but collapsing in her seat.
Ojiro sits down too. I wasn’t even aware he’d stood up til now. He breaths out in relief, hand over his heart. “That just about killed me.”
I don’t reply, watching Hitoshi clench his jaw angrily. “You’re not supposed to be able to fight back! What did you do?!” He yells, trying to get Izuku to talk again, likely forgetting that I had told Izuku what I knew of Hitoshi’s Quirk.
Izuku puts a hand over his mouth instinctively.
Getting angrier, Hitoshi takes a step forward. “How’d you do that?!” He presses, but still Izuku resists talking.
Izuku shakes his head as if to clear it (understandable; he probably had a lot going on in that brain of his right now) and faces Hitoshi, holding his injured hand now.
“C’mon! Say something!” Hitoshi taunts, then assumes a slightly more relaxed stance. “I didn’t know you had so much power in your fingers. I’m kinda jealous of you!”
Of course Hitoshi would be jealous.
He’d never said it to my face, but I could tell he wanted a flashy, physical Quirk like mine or anyone around him’s. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Izuku starts running toward Hitoshi, and I can see the pain in his eyes from his broken fingers.
“Thanks to the way my Quirk works, I’ve always been at a huge disadvantage. But someone as blessed as you wouldn’t understand that!” Izuku grits his teeth to keep from talking and I can tell how much Hitoshi’s words were affecting him. Poor guy had been Quirkless growing up. “You’re lucky enough to have a heroic Quirk! It’ll be so easy for you to reach your goal!”
I bite my lip. No one around me was really reacting to what Hitoshi was saying, but I could feel a few eyes on me. As Hitoshi’s friend, they were gauging my reaction.
Hang in there, Hitoshi… I think, hands gripping my PE outfit again.
Izuku reaches Hitoshi and begins shoving him back toward the edge. “Say something, dammit!” Hitoshi growls, punching Izuku right in the face. I flinch. That had to hurt.
Izuku is still determined, though, continuing to push Hitoshi toward the edge. Hitoshi glances back worriedly at the narrowing space between him and the edge of the ring, now desperate, and slams his fist into Izuku’s injured fingers.
Izuku, predictably, reels back, grunting in pain.
“Did you have to go for the low blow?” I grumble to myself, but realize there’s a chance, if I were in Shinso’s position, I’d do the same thing, so I let it go.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me!” Hitoshi roars as Izuku, attempting to resume pushing Hitoshi, stumbles when Hitoshi moves aside, bumbling to a halt, within the boundaries. It’s now Hitoshi’s turn to shove Izuku backwards. “Get out of the ring you lucky brat!” Shinso screams in frustration.
Unfortunately for Hitoshi, however, Izuku seemed prepared for that. He grabs the front of Hitoshi’s PE outfit, the other hand, the injured one, gripping Hitoshi’s arm. Izuku cries out in pain and heaves Hitoshi over his shoulder like he’d done with Katsuki during that combat training on the second day of hero training.
I wince as Hitoshi’s mouth opens in a silent cry of pain, his eyes closing as his body briefly passes out.
It had worked, however. Izuku won. Shinso’s feet were out of bounds.
I am off my chair almost before anyone could react, ignoring a few calls of my name as I race toward the arena, eager to get to Hitoshi, and...well, I’d figure that out based on his reaction when I get there.
“Shinso is out of bounds!” I hear Oba Nemuri call distantly and I pick up the pace a little. “Midoriya is the winner!”
Absently, I remember all the students in our middle school that, once they found out what Hitoshi’s Quirk was, eagerly talked about the nefarious possibilities as if that were what Hitoshi wanted.
I grit my teeth.
Those jerks probably didn’t mean to add to Hitoshi’s anger and frustration, but still. It made me mad that virtually no one aside from me, my parents, and his parents, could see past the brainwashing and actually get to know Hitoshi.
If they had, they’d have never suggested that he’d be a villain.
I get nearly to the edge of the hall leading into the arena when Dad’s voice comes over the PA system. “And with that expertly performed throw, we have our first victor of the finals; Class 1-A’s Izuku Midoriya!”
I finally see the light at the end of the hall and stop to walk the rest of the way and catch my breath.
Surprisingly (Or not, considering…) Toshin-Oji was there. He seems surprised to see me. “Hi.” I greet, trying to steady my breathing as Dad continues talking.
“That was actually kind of a boring first match, kids, but both of you fought bravely! Let’s show them some love everyone!” Dad cheers and the crowd obliges. I move to walk over to Shinso, but Toshin-Oji puts a hand on my shoulder.
“Wait just a minute.” He says a moment later, guessing easily why I was here.
Hitoshi gets up a moment later, saying nothing as he faces Izuku.
Izuku does an awkward half-bow (as usual after a sparring match) before giving up and standing there, holding his hand again.
“That was kind of a boring first match, kids,” Dad says and I roll my eyes. He was always wanting intense action in any fight he watched, be it in training or whatever he was watching. “but both of them fought bravely. Let’s show them some love, everyone!” The crowd obliges.
Now that I was closer, I couldn’t see Hitoshi’s face, but Izuku looked frankly kinda sad, like he regretted what he’d done. I see Izuku ask a question and Hitoshi almost flinchs in surprise. It seemed he wasn’t quite prepared for that question.
Then Hitoshi was walking toward me, after replying I assume, and I could see his face clouded with emotion.
I took that as my cue and started jogging toward him. “Hey~!” I cheer, hugging him eagerly. “You did so awesome out there!”
He peels me off. “I didn’t win.” He grumbles.
I catch up to his renewed walking easily. “So?” I reply, shrugging. “You still showed the world what you can do. Everyone’ll be buzzing about you now.”
“They aren’t saying anything good, I bet.”
Poor Shinso’s default was to assume everyone thinks poorly of him, and I felt absolutely terrible for him.
So I laugh. “Oh, don’t be cynical, Hitoshi.” I reply, patting him on the back for good measure. “You don’t know that.”
As if coordinated, we spot some students gathered on the bottom of the stands, leaning over and calling for Hitoshi, a few looking at me and smirking.
“You’re the star of our program!” among other encouraging things, were called out to Hitoshi and then one student tells us to listen to what the crowd was saying.
It was hard to make out, but it was mostly about how easy it’ll be for Hitoshi to subdue villains with his Quirk and how amazing it was. A few were even complaining at how Hitoshi was stuck in General Studies.
I grin. About time people realized how amazing a hero Hitoshi will be.
Hitoshi turns his head just enough that Izuku could tell Hitoshi was talking to him. “Depending on the results, they might transfer people into the Hero Course.” He says. “Remember that.” I grin and side-hug my friend.
“Yeah! I’ll put in a good word for yah and see if my parents can vouch for you, too! This isn’t over, Hitoshi! We’ll get you into the Hero Course.”
“Don’t worry, Takara.” Hitoshi replies, even as he smiles a little at me and removes my arm from his shoulders. “I’m not giving up. I’ll get onto the Hero track, get certified, and then…” he grits his teeth, “I’ll become a better hero than any of you!”
I’m so swept away in the emotions of the moment, I hug Hitoshi again.
“Hell yeah!” I cheer and Hitoshi peels me off again.
Then I notice Izuku’s lifeless expression and smack Hitoshi’s arm. “You know, people usually tense up when they talk to me.” Hitoshi notes, rubbing his arm. “Other than Takara and our families, that is. If you’re not on guard, someone’s going to defeat you. So be careful.”
“C’mon, let him go.” I chuckle, and Hitoshi does. “I’ll get you some water or something to pay you back for the gummies.”
I lead Hitoshi toward the hall when he stops for a second. “You better not lose and make me look bad.” Then Hitoshi continues walking away.
I chuckle. “You always were dramatic.” I muse wryly.
“Shut up.” He replies, but his smirk betrays him. Once we’re away from the eyes of the public, Hitoshi sags. “Thanks, Kara.”
“For what?” I ask.
“For always being there for me.”
I ruffle his hair. “Of course, knucklehead. We’re friends, aren’t we?” He smacks my hand away.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. You owe me gummies.” He grumbles good-naturedly, leading the way toward the nearest vending machines.
I pull out my wallet (still in my pocket from lunch) and insert the change, retrieving the gummies and tossing them to Hitoshi as I turn to leave. “Well, I need to get back to my class now. They’re probably wondering why I left.”
Hitoshi shrugs. “They saw you down there with me. They’re not that dumb.”
I scoff. “None of them are stupid, Hitoshi. But anyway, see yah around!” I wave at him and he waves back as we part ways.
It doesn’t take as long as I thought it would to get back to my classmates and sit down. No one said anything for a long moment and I was beginning to feel hot and flustered (I’m not sure why, though) when Eijiro finally breaks the silence.
“So what was that all about?” He was testy again. I raise a brow.
“He’s my friend, Eijiro. I just wanted to congratulate him on his fight. He’s not great at fighting yet, but he’s trying. Plus, he needed a bit of encouragement after losing to Izuku.”
“Hmm...alright, that makes sense.” He says and it’s clear he’s still upset about something, but I can’t make out what he’s so mad about, so I just sit there awkwardly.
“Everyone's talking about Shinso.” Ochako muses, chuckling. “Must be a thrill for him.”
Mentally thanking her, I nod. “Yeah. He’s not used to positive feedback, but I think he likes the change.”
“He has a very unique Quirk, and I think he has potential as a hero, if nothing else.” It was obvious Tenya was just trying to compliment Hitoshi because I knew him, and I appreciated the gesture, so I nod.
“He really does.”
We sit waiting and soon enough Izuku walks up. Tenya waves to him and has Izuku sit next to him and Ochako.
“Thanks, guys!” Izuku replies happily, then notices Ojiro smiling at him. Izuku smiles back and sits down as the flames in the corners turn on again, and the opponents of the next match step into the ring.
“Enough standing around!” Dad cheers, “Now it’s on to the next players!” The screen displays the next matchup, and I see Hanta and Shoto. I figure it’s an easy win for Shoto (unless Hanta has a plan of some kind) and settle in to watch.
“He’s got some skills, but at the expense of some freaky looking elbows.” I laugh. Trust Dad to sort-of insult pretty much everyone in his commentary. “From the Hero Course, it’s Hanta Sero...versus an early frontrunner in the competition, who’s way too strong for his own good! Someone who got into the Hero Course due to recommendations. It’s Shoto Todoroki!”
Hanta looks like he’s stretching his arms, smiling cockily at Shoto, who stands there, waiting for the match to begin.
“And now for the second match of the first round!” Dad says, pausing just a second for effect, “Begin!”
I think Hanta says something, but I can’t tell what he said as he snaps tape toward Shoto almost before Dad had finished beginning the match, resulting in Shoto being tied up before he could move.
Hanta yanks Shoto toward the edge, letting out more tape to get Shoto closer to the edge faster.
“A plot to throw his opponent from the ring!” Dad cheers, “A brilliant strategy from the underdog! Way to start out strong, Sero!” He encourages.
But, unfortunately, Shoto’s ice powers then activate and freeze the tape, steadying Shoto, the ice hurdling toward Hanta before he could move, and soon enough- -
“Agh!” I scream in shock as a massive ice wall comes toward me. Eijiro’s hand on my chest pushes me back in my seat just in time. My nose was only a foot or two from the ice, seems like. The stadium was still vibrating from the sheer power of that much ice moving at once.
My breath condensates in the air as we all process what happened.
“This is insane…” I breath in shock.
“Y-yeah...geez...he didn’t hold back at all.” Eijiro mumbles absently beside me, his arm flopping to his side.
“He went way overboard! Someone could have been hurt!” Tenya protests.
“Tell the truth, Sero…” Oba Nemuri’s voice comes over the speakers. “Can you move at all?”
I think Sero replies cus Oba continues a moment later. “Sero had been immobilized! Todoroki advances to the second round!”
There’s silence, everyone still coming out of their shock at the sheer power Todoroki had displayed.
Then, I hear everyone start shouting ‘Nice try!’, presumably to Hanta, and I then decide to move to where I could see around the ice.
A few classmates went with me. All I could see was Shoto near Hanta, and there’s steam, so I can assume he was getting Hanta out of the ice.
There was something about Shoto’s posture and body language…
He seemed sad.
I resolve to talk to him more often. This was definitely intriguing.

Shigaraki is awake, Toga has gone batshit crazy and she and Dabi are ready to kill people. Amy can sense AND see it all the way from her mansion, she planned to stay out of the war because witches are neutral and isolationists. Sure she was with the heroes at one point but then she left... until she saw Tokoyami rush into the fray to save Hawks...
Is she still mad at Hawks? Yes, he murdered her friend, but Tokoyami is her friend too... it’s his actions that finally made her decide that she can’t let her friends die or get hutr because of the heroes and so... she makes one “last” video before she takes off to go and help her friends.
“If you’re watching this I’m probably dead cuz I had to come in and save everyone’s asses since you fucking idiot heroes can’t do ANYTHING right, and if you wanna hear the rest of my criticisms towards you guys, it’s in this big angry email that I haven’t sent yet, Madison helped me write it and it is WORDY.
I really should just be at home, but I like to think that I don’t just stand by while bad shit is happening for the most part so that’s why… I’m coming back. I’m coming back to UA and I’m gonna be the one who saves your asses since I can sense major bad juju going on. I’M gonna be the heroine, even if it kills me… so like I said if you’re watching this I’m dead… probably… so here is my last testament…
DON’T TOUCH MY STUFF! NO ONE GETS ANYTHING!! I LEAVE IT ALL TO MY GHOST! AND TRUST ME I’M GONNA BE HAUNTING YA’LL!
Okay but actually I do have SOME things to leave to you guys and you can talk to my ghost at the mansion because I WILL return to haunt it. Hitoshi, you get my mansion, if you need a place to live, the mansion’s yours and just about everything else I don’t give away it’s all yours, my bank account, my trust funds, my 201 K whatever that is… it’s yours.
Shouto, I want you to have my entire movie and music collection including the old, vintage ones and you get all of my Marvel merchandise because it’s worth some serious coin.
Katsuki, you get all of my Game of Thrones merchandise and this Iron Chair I brought, that’s one of my favorite things and it’s going to be yours when I die, I know you don’t like to be given things but you can have everything top-notch in my kitchen and this super freaking rare All-Might figurine my dad used to own, it’s yours.
Momo, you get all my jewelry because your eyes are like diamonds and I think you’d look the best with everything I’ve got, but tell Aoyama that he can have the sparkliest ones, you hear that Yuga? You get some of the sparkliest things so you and Momo check them out and choose what you want. Tenya, I have a library in my mansion, every single book on the shelf is yours and some of them are worth some real money.
Denki, I have tickets I’ve saved to all the concerts I was going to, they’re yours, and take Hitoshi with you, and you also partial-ownership of the mansion alongside Hitoshi. And you also get my entire Funko Pop collection of every franchise I’ve ever liked, plus you can have my Netflix and Hulu and Amazon account and this life-sized Deadpool statue signed by Ryan Reynolds himself.
Everyone else? I’ve got a shit-ton of money left over from Fiona, and all of you are getting 100,000 yen each because I’ve really come to like you shitheads and I’d like to at least leave you guys with something.
My internet friend? Ashleigh-luvs-14-cats? If you ever find this... I’m sending you my famous cookie recipe, it’s the most precious thing I have, and you 100,000 yen too for being a dear friend to me when everything sucked for me. You also get ALL my Guardians of the Galaxy merchandise and this cute little bunny antique I have, that’s worth some serious coin too and I want you to have all the movies that we said we’d watch together...
Mads, Mal, Coco, you girls get all of my other sentimental things, like every single dress I have, every toy I have, and the remaining money I got in my bank account.
Mr. Aizawa... I’m still pissed off at you too, but if I don’t die by the end of this I will hug you. I mean I will hug you, and I don’t want to hug you I mean I’m still mad at you. But I will also give you my bed, because it’s the best thing to sleep in. However, this all depends if I don’t die.
And Izuku? Oh Izuku… I know we haven’t been on good terms at all and that we left on bad terms, it’s been awkward I know, which is why… since things are getting so serious right now…
You’re not getting anything. I had this REALLY cool thing for you, REALLY special... but... if we don’t die by the end of this then maybe I’ll consider giving it to you but if we DO die or if I die, I will The Conjuring you!”

It’s best to start at the beginning,
“At this current moment in time about 80% of the population has a quirk, which is a talent that is unique to the individual. The manifestation of a quirk has become commonplace over the years. There is another oddity in the world that is quite rare, only 32% of the world’s population have this particular manifestation. A soulmate mark, usually a phrase found on a particular part of the body. However, because it’s such a rare occurrence, there’s not much research or knowledge on the subject.” Mr. Aizawa paused and motioned with his head for me to enter the classroom,
“This is Evangeline, she’s new, you can wait until the end of class to make her acquaintance.”
With that, I nodded my head in acknowledgement and made my way to the only open spot in the room behind a kid with green hair and freckles. I’ve moved around enough to not give attention to the inquisitive stares following my movements. Mr. Aizawa continued with the lecture that I knew by heart since I was one of the few that actually had a soulmate mark. I tune out the words having heard them too many times to count, and absentmindedly running my fingers over the fabric of my skirt right above where my mark was concealed. The principal had told me that the teacher who usually teaches this class, World History, is absent, so they have my homeroom teacher, Mr. Aizawa, teaching a review lecture it seems. The rest of the class seemed to pass by quickly. The stupor I was in broken by the ringing of the bell indicating class over and the beginning of our lunch period. However, most of the students didn’t even bother to head out the door to the cafeteria. They instead chose to clamber around the desk I was sitting at and surround me in an enclosed circle of bodies. One after the other shouting different questions at me leaving me a bit overwhelmed and panicky. My eyes darting from one face to the next, seeing their mouths move, but not the sound of their voices. This is just too much, and I need out. NOW! I bolt shoving through the mass of students and make a break for it. Bathroom, bathroom, bathroom. Ah, there it is! I add an extra burst of speed to get to my destination, my sanctuary. I rush over to the sinks I run my hands under the water and splash myself in the face with the cool water. It feels good in comparison to the sweltering environment around me. All those eager kids, like vultures for information about the new kid. ‘I was prepared for something similar to this. There will always be the excitement of the new classmate. But this, this was different. A completely different animal. Maybe it has to do with the hero class in general. Something in the water... Aside from that, I haven’t freaked out like this since the third grade. This is insane, get it together Eva! Don’t let this super important school get to you. They’re teenagers just like you, they’re all relatively human, except that pink one. I don’t know about her, we’ll have to ask about that one.’
*Smek*
I swat my cheeks to snap myself out of the soon-to-be thirty minute internal monologue. After giving myself a steeling look in the mirror I head out of the bathroom and walk in the direction of the cafeteria.
I walk into the central eating area and scan for a place to sit, all the students for my class are busy conversing with one another. I start walking in the general direction when I spot it, the holy grail of all lunch tables. It’s completely empty and no one is going to bother me while I try to eat. I avoid eye contact with the other students from 1-A as they attempt to grab my attention, by flailing their arms around and pointing to their table. ‘I don’t think so, judging by the massive freak out I had earlier, the last thing I need is more interactions.’ After setting my tray down, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. It takes mere seconds before a small group of students congregate around me. ‘Greeeaat’ I think to myself as I force a friendly smile and wait for them to realize I can’t address all of their questions at once. A firm *Ahem* can be heard from the center of the mass, and like Moses parting the Red Sea, a boy with glasses and an intellectual look about him came forward, and said, “Hello, my name is Tenya Ida, I apologize on the behalf of my fellow classmates for bombarding you earlier.” He finishes his statement with a deep bow, turns away from me towards the classmates who are gathered, and then issues what seems to be come directions to the rest of the class.
They form a line of some sort and wait. He turns back to me after this, and pushing his glasses back up, he says, “They should all wait their turn now and not talk all at once, which is what seemed to overwhelm you the first time.” I nod to show my understanding, and then raise my hand instinctively, then ask myself, ‘why did I just raise my hand for permission to speak when he’s a student just like me?’
“Yes, Evangeline?” Ida says.
“I would much prefer if they weren’t lined up, it feels weird and too formal,-” ‘Not to mention like they’re in line to meet with a queen or some other royal,’ “- I don’t mind if they’re bunched up, just one question at a time would be better.” He nods and asks my fellow classmates to do just that.
I point to a girl with a round face, chocolate brown hair, and kind eyes to start off what feels like an interview session with the press. She says, “ Hi, my name is, Ochaco Uraraka, what’s your name?”
“Evangeline Shaffer.”
The next person is the boy from before with the blue hair and glasses, “I’ve noticed that you’ve got a distinct way of speaking Japanese, foreign even. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from?”
“Well, that one is a bit more complicated, my family traveled a lot when I was younger. I’m from a little bit of everywhere, but you would be correct in assuming Japanese is not my first language. I still have a hard time with it sometimes, so if I ask any of you to repeat something it’s probably because I need to be able to properly understand you all.”
“So what’s your power?” a fairly short girl, with green hair and her tongue sticking out asks. I then notice a small boy with freckles and green disheveled curly hair, whip out a notebook. Pencil in hand, he was poised above the paper after writing in anticipation of the next word about to come out of my mouth.
I quirk my brow up at this strange observation but answer the question nonetheless. “It’s a form of crystallization, but instead of crystal it’s quartz.”
Some students have already left, after getting the information they were looking for, but there were four that came over at a significantly belated time in my conversations. One of them was pink, with strange, but beautiful eyes, she came over and introduced herself as Mina Ashido. With her were a boy with a lightning bolt in his hair, Denki Kaminari, and there is also a boy with bulky elbows, who introduces himself as Hanta Sero. The last person of the group was a boy that seemed super friendly, when he came up to the table he beamed showing his shark-like teeth, his name is Eijiro Kirishima.
Ashido practically bounced her way over to my side of the table and encompassed me in a tight hug. “I just hope that we can be awesome friends is all! Welcome to class 1-A!”
“Thwank Ou” (Translation: Thank you, head/face squished = distortion of words)
She released me from the hug and sat down at my table next to me allowing me to take in a deep breath of air. Kaminari and Sero sat down across from me while Kirishima sat at the other side of me that wasn’t occupied by Ashido. ‘Everyone else has left my table, why are they still here?’
“Um, weren’t you sitting somewhere else?” I say, hoping they’ll take the hint that I just need some time alone.
“We thought that it would be better to sit here so you’re not sitting alone at the lunch table, especially on your first day.” says Kaminari.
I next hear thumping noise approaching the table we’re all sitting at, and look up to find a boy with spiky, ash-blonde hair, and saggy pants sit himself down at the table. I look on at his actions with wide eyes, ‘Wow, who pissed in your cheerios this morning?’ Sero looked over at me and motioned over to the new addition to the group while saying, “This is Katsuki Bakugo, don’t mind him, he’s always like this.”
“I don’t need you to introduce me Tapeface!” He exclaimed, but he didn’t bother to introduce himself anyways, he just went back to eating his lunch.
I feel a slight tingling sensation on my left hip, but I dismiss it because, for the rest of the lunch period there was no real excitement other than whenever Bakugo was a part of the conversation. Watching their interactions was a great change of pace from my previous school experiences, ‘This is actually pretty nice, maybe the world isn’t all that bad after all.’

“Rockcandy” MHA: OC Story
Okashi Shuga, Class 1-a Introduction
Tumblr media
Shuga nervously waited to be called into class 1-A, playing with a piece of her cotton candy hair. She hears a voice and on cue walks into the room. She sees all of the new faces and one familiar to her. She bowed to her uncle "Thank you.” Mr. Aizawa gave her a nod and before he could respond a booming voice yelled “OI! WHATS HER QUIRK TO FIGHT PEOPLE WITH THE POWER OF PINK??” Her eye twitched as she responded “NO!? WHATS YOUR QUIRK? TO FIGHT PEOPLE WITH THE POWER OF LOUD?” Aizawa stepped in “QUIET!!” he turned back to her “Sweets, introduce yourself.” Everyone visibly cringed,(Mineta crying in a corner), students whispered to each other and someone mumble “She’s a minor how creepy.” Shuga put a smile back on her face and bowed to the class “Its nice to meet you all! I hope we can get along just fine, even loudy mcstinkface over there.” Bakugo twitched and was about to retort when Mr. Aizawa glared at him. She continued “ I’m glad i got accepted to the class my uncle teaches. I’ve heard so much about all of you and your quirks. You guys are all so awesome and I can’t wait to start my journey to become a prohero with all of you!” People who were holding their breath exhaled and everyone relaxed instantly upon the realization that indeed nothing creepy was going on.
Shuga wrote her name on the whiteboard “My name is Okashi Shuga, my nickname is “Sweets” as a play on my last name meaning sweets or candy hence my name together meaning Sugar Sweets.”  next to her name she wrote her quirk. “My quirk is Magical Girl. Which is that my ability allows me to use any powers a magical girl has be it Sailor Moon, Pretty Cure, Madoka Magica and so on I even have a henshin item as well as a guardian. The downside is that while I can use a magical girls powers,  I can only use that specific magical girl once per day, and I have to say the catch phrases. For example If I use Sailor Moon I can use all of her powers but once I run out of her abilities I can no longer use her that day, I would have to move on to say Cure Black or some other magical girl. Also if my quirk is used in excess the abilities can become predictable to my opponent, like if I use Cure Black and Cure white they both only have about 4 or 5 abilities so my opponent would be able to use that to their advantage. Also I have a trail of glitter that follows me around everywhere due to my quirk so while that is pretty and all it can get annoying since it makes me easy to find when hiding...and it gets in my hair…” She deadpanned then continued to be happy and bubbly “So once again it's great to be a part of class 1-A and i can’t wait to get started!” Mr Aizawa asked “Alright class treat her well. Any questions?”   Ochako raised her hand first “Since you're basically a Magical Girl where is your fairy/pet?” she smiled “Oh Sparkle? I have to transform first but, let me call her, it will just be a second. Usually she’s with me but since it was my first day she figured just to stay home.” she pulls her wand out and swirled it around, glitter getting everywhere “Give me the power of Sailor Moon!” everyone just saw a bubble of strange colors and light envelope her all staring wide eyed Izuku’s eyes bulging “SHE REALLY IS A MAGICAL GIRL!!?” the light dissipated and some people uncovered their eyes. Shuga reappears with purple colored hair styled differently and a darker colored purple magical uniform. In her arms she held at black ball of fluff. She put the ball down and it unfurled itself to be a black cat with a red ribbon and a bell around its neck. “This is Sparkle, my guardian.” The cat hopped on the table then into her arms. The cat spoke “Hello Shuga, I thought I could stay home today?? I was napping…” Shuga laughed awkwardly “Well everyone wanted to meet you and don’t you have to be with me when in this form?” The cat sighed and agreed then stood in front of the class “Who interrupted my cat nap??” The class all still staring wide eyed.
The brunette girl held her hand up slowly and then laughed awkwardly as well “Uhh..i..it was me.” the cat went up to her desk “Pet me...PET ME!!” Shuga responded “She really likes to be petted.” She reverted back to her school uniform and normal look in a flash of light “Are there any more questions?” Iida who was still freaking out and doing his weird hand motions started sputtering “LOOK AT ALL THE GLITTER ON THE GROUND?? DO YOU KNOW WHO HAS TO CLEAN THAT UP?? AND YOU USED YOUR QUIRK IN THE CLASSROOM???” Shuga ignored him and waited to see if anyone else had any other questions. Again there was Bakugo yelling “FIGHT ME!! I WANT TO SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO YOU PINK EXTRA!” Shuga twitched “BRING IT BAKUNO MCYELLERSON!!” He glared at her and Mr. Aizawa shouted above the bickering “ENOUGH ALREADY! Sweets, get Sparkle and go to your seat you get to sit next to Kirishima.” the girl did a fist pump “Yeah! The cute redhead!.....I said that out loud...oops..” Aizawa facepalmed while the girl scooped her cat from the brunette.
She shuffled over to her seat and awkwardly sat down next to Kirishima. He mumbled “Its not manly for a guy to blush like this. But I can make up for it!” he turned to her while she was hiding her face behind her big mess of curly pink hair. He tapped her shoulder “uh Okashi-chan...Okashi-chan.” she was still a blushing mess but she looked up at him “Y-yes Kirishima?” He held out his hand for her “It's nice to m-meet you and I hope we can get to know each other more...btw...I think you are cute too.” She turned as bright red as a tomato and shook his hand “Thank you, I’m excited to get to know you more too!.....Also everyone else too!” After a while the two were more relaxed around each other, Shuga laughing at his jokes and Kirishima just watching in awe as she told him more about her quirk and everything. Bakugo yelling once in disapproval that they should get a room and Shuga flipping her hair at him causing him to get glitter in his eye and yell about it. For the young pinkette it looks like the year was going to be a good one.

Sweet Nothing (MHA Staff AU Fanfiction)
Tumblr media
Chapter 5
Warnings: None swf, slight fluff.
Author’s note: Literally couldn’t come up for a good Pro Hero name for Mai’s ex colleague so I’m giving credit to my friend @thatgirlwithcamera for coming up with Gemini with ease. As the story progresses you’ll see how it fits perfectly for that character.
The doctor explained all of Aizawa's injuries to me as he was still asleep. Turned aside from the broken limbs, his right arm was also missing a few layers of skin and muscle was exposed, luckily it wasn't infected. We still have yet to see if his erasure quirk was intact, Aizawa had to be awake to check his quirk but that wasn't happening any time soon.
Nezu felt it was best to close the school down for a week to give the staff and students time to recuperate after the attack. During that week I have been just going between my place and the hospital and emailing parents of Class 1-A. Currently though, I was sitting in the love seat they had in the room with my laptop watching Netflix and checking emails.
A few emails caught my eye.
Hi Sweetheart,
I know we haven't spoken since the drama revolving around the court case. I just heard about the attack at UA. Now, I am not planning on telling you that you should come to I-Island and lay low here. I just want to let you know I'm not mad anymore and wanted to see if you're okay. Te quiero, mi Sión
Love,
Mami
Great. My mom. I guess she changed her mind about me moving to I-Island and making it come off as her own idea. I'll reply later and blame it on the time zones.
Hiya teach!
How's Japan treating you? I'm only emailing you because my cousin told me about what happened at UA. I hope you're okay and so are the students. Everyone here in the U.S. miss you. Oh! Also I need to know the address to your new place to send you the invitation to Aaron and my wedding. So please let me know soon! Love you, miss you, and hope all is well on your end.
Marga
I quickly typed up a reply giving her my new address and telling her how we're all fine aside from Thirteen and Aizawa being injured. She's probably going to freak out to hear about her favorite underground hero being injured. I gave her a brief sentence or two explaining how I'll tell her more in detail about everything if we ever get to video chat. After replying I went back to my Netflix binge with my eyes switching between the screen and Aizawa's sleeping form every now and then.
"What are you watching?" I jumped in my seat slightly and almost dropped my laptop as the mummy beside me grunted. "Why do you react so dramatically?"
I stood up to help Aizawa move and sit up, I glared at him and grabbed the hospital bed remote to change his position. "Well, I'm sorry, I didn't expect my colleague who was asleep for four days to just speak out of nowhere." Even though his face was bandaged up, I could still sense his signature annoyed expression. I just copied the expression with my right hand on my hip holding the bed remote.
"You're so immature." He sighed and looked down. "Why are you here?"
"Huh? Oh, I guess Nezu didn't tell you about making me your emergency contact since we're partners at the school." I rubbed the back of my neck. "The doctors and nurse think I'm your fiance though, because Nezu wanted to make sure that they didn't try to kick me out." Aizawa simply hummed in response. "I've been here since you came in. All the students wouldn't stop blowing up my email asking about you." I gave a soft chuckle. "They're incredibly worried but relieved that you're alive." It was hard to meet his eyes. I felt vulnerable where I stood despite not being the one in a full body cast. I hugged myself tighter into my cardigan, "I'm going to call a nurse in to let them know you're awake." Another hum was left in the air.
The doctor and nurses told me that I needed to leave the room while they examined Aizawa, despite Aizawa surprisingly refusing me to leave. So, I took the opportunity to go down to the cafeteria to grab a bite and maybe bring something for Aizawa. I decided I would text the group chat between Aizawa, Lily, Iris, Mic, and Midnight to let them know he was awake.
Me: He lived bitches
Mic 🎧🎤: HE'S ALIVE
Iris 👓: Oscar the Grouch has risen? 🧟‍♂️
Iris 👓: Glad to hear he's awake. 💜🖤
Midnight 🌙🥀: Did you tell him that the hospital thinks you're engaged? 😏
Lily 🥧: Wait, who's engaged?
Iris 👓: Aizawa and Mai
Lily 🥧: Since when?
Midnight 🌙🥀 Since Nezu made them their emergency contacts and told the hospital they're engaged. 😂😂😂
Midnight🌙🥀: I can hear the wedding bells ringing
Mic 🎧🎤: More like a gothic organ playing 😂
Me: This is why I don't talk to you guys 😒
Iris 👓: What's the couple name? 🤔
Iris 👓: Shai? Aizontoya... ew no.. Maizawa? Zionhead?
Lily 🥧: I like Shai. It's cute and simple just like the lovely couple.
Me: I'm going to kill you all. 😑
Me: You know Aizawa is in this chat too, right? 🙄
Midnight 🌙🥀: Yes and we don't care 😈 MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Lily 🥧: You guys would have cute babies.
Mic 🎧🎤: They'll be cute because of M&M not Shota.
Me: I'm muting this chat now.
Lily 🥧: We're only messing around 😂
Me: I'll give you guys more info later, now behave children.
Iris 👓: Okay, mama montoya!
Lily 🥧: Love you mama!
Midnight🌙🥀: Make sure you tell daddy we said hi!
Midnight🌙🥀: emphasis on the "daddy" part 😏
Mic 🎧🎤: Kayama please don't sexualize my parents. I just got them back together after fifteen years. You're going to make me not want them 🤢
Lily 🥧: Did someone say daddy kink? I'm here for the mommy kink
Lily 🥧: God I almost barfed typing that
Me: YOU ALL NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP.... BYE.
Mic 🎧🎤: HEEEEEYYYYY WHAT ABOUT ME
My phone kept buzzing. And I'm almost positive Aizawa's phone was going berserk in my purse too. I shook my head and let out a sigh. I grabbed a burger for myself and some fries with a water bottle and then I grabbed an apple sauce packet for Aizawa mainly because I highly doubt he can physically chew on anything right now and well, the man already lives off them. I walked back to his room, hopefully, I'm allowed to come in now, and with my food. None of the staff told me not too when I passed by so I figured it was okay. The door was closed so I looked through the window to see if Aizawa was still with the doctor and the nurses. All I saw was a sad mummy man using MY laptop.
I opened the door with the tray of food in my hand, "Why are you using my laptop?"
"I wanted to check my email." His voice was muffled. He leaned forward to the screen trying to see.
"You can't even type. How did you... never mind. Next time ask to use my laptop, please?" I walked up to him and placed the packet in front of him. "If you feel like your up for it, I'm willing to share my fries." He pushed my laptop to the side and grabbed the packet, struggled a little to open it. I set my food down next to my laptop and opened to the packet for him. At a small glance, I noticed that my laptop was opened on my email. Specifically, the email I got from my mom. "Checking your emails huh?" I raised my eyebrow at him and held myself back from smacking his head.
"As you can see I was struggling a bit to use the laptop in my current condition." He said while sucking on his applesauce.
"But you managed to open my emails?"
"It was an accident. Nice to know your mom is the same as ever." He grumbled.
"You haven't gotten any emails. Most of the staff just sent me anything they needed you to look at since they knew I was with you." I stuffed a fry into my mouth. "So, what did the doc tell you?"
"That I'm surprisingly healthy." He said staring at my fries. And then he tried to scoot over. "You can sit if you want."
I smiled a little and sat next to him, "You want a fry." I waved a fry in front of his mouth and he solemnly leaned forward and let me feed it to him. "Did he tell you about your quirk?"
He leant onto my shoulder, and I was feeling nothing but flames erupt within my body, "Yeah, but I'm not worried. The most that could happen is that I can't use it for as long as I used to." I fed him another fry. "So your mom wants you to move to I-Island after one villain attack?"
I took a bite out of my burger, "Nope, we're not switching to me." I grabbed my laptop and set it on both of our legs switching from my emails to Netflix to find something to watch. "Technically, I wanted to move to I-Island since my mom and my Uncle Dave were there and well I could've had a low profile there like I do here. But my mom and I weren't exactly on the best terms so she told me not to come." I was met with silence, "And then Nezu called me and asked me if I wanted to come back. Funny how that mouse always comes to pick up the slack." I sadly smiled.
"Why were you guys fighting?" Aizawa's voice was muffled but oozed concern.
"Didn't you read the email?" I chuckled and looked over to him.
"So it had something to do with the case against Gemini?"
I nodded and bit my cheek. "She didn't think I should've done anything about him. That I should've stayed quiet. But you know how she is. My whole life, she's been paranoid that with my quirk people would try and hurt me or use me. And you know, since I clearly made a name for myself and moved past all my transgressions. She didn't want me to be a victim again."
"She still shouldn't have shut you out." Aizawa stated a matter of factly.
"Yeah, well, she did." I put on a movie and leant against the pillows on the bed while Aizawa did the same. It was a peaceful silence between us while the movie played quietly. I put on a simple comedy to lighten up the mood and keep us entertained, "I used Oboro's quirk."
"What for?" he shifted slightly.
"I had to hide Midoriya and All Might from the villains while Snipe shot at them." I folded my arms, "They saw my face though, so I guess using the quirk did have a setback."
"You did what you could in the moment. I'm sure they won't even remember you after that. Just actually wear your glasses and maybe they won't recognize you." I heard humor in his voice.
"Ah yes, the famous glasses disguise." I waved my hands in a rainbow motion earning a small chuckle from the both of us.
"The doctor said that Recovery Girl can come in and pretty much help me heal faster so I can get back to work sooner."
"I wouldn't suggest going back so soon. You have to give yourself a chance to actually heal. You trying to teach students is mentally and physically draining." Ah, yes, Mai. Please lecture the 30 year old man like he's a child.
"The school isn't even open right now. I'll be fine by next week." He went back to his monotoned gruffy voice.
"As your fake fiance, I have to say no to you going back to work. Just have Midnight or Mic take your place." Boy I am so glad that I can't see Aizawa's face with those bandages. I do however see the glowing red and floating hair from his quirk. "Oh, look, your quirk works!" I smiled brightly to show I wasn't intimidated even though I was. "Fine, maybe Midnight or Mic shouldn't take over for you. I have a better option."
He turned off his quirk and gave a stern and cold voice, "Who?"
I pointed to myself all proud, "Me!"
"Absolutely not."
"Why not?" I puffed my cheeks into a small pout.
"You said you couldn't teach."
"I said I couldn't use my quirk to teach. I can just act like you. 'Today you will pick your hero names while I nap.'" I tried my best Aizawa impression. Needless to say he was not amused.
"I hate you."
"Awe, but baby, we're engaged." I smirked.
"No, we're not." He groaned.
"Oh no, sweetheart, did the blow to your handsomely stupid head make you forget your undying love for me?" I put a hand to my heart and pretended to be heartbroken and then I went to hold him gently while fake sobbing, "It's okay, love, I'll do my best to have you fall back in love with me."
"Please get off of me." I didn't. "You're insufferable."
"Why must you be so mean to me, Shota baby." I let out a few more sobs before finally letting him go. "You think I was annoying, you should see the group chat. Apparently we're parents to our friends now."
Aizawa responded with another groan and a brief, "I hate the people I surround myself with." I simply gave him another hug which he tried his best to wriggle out of, but eventually just gave in. "You're annoying."
"Shut up and let's go back to watching the movie, butthead." I said while stroking his hair.
