As promised, here’s my demon Inotan au I’ve been working on!

In short, this is half a reverse au with Tanjiro being the demon and Nezuko being the slayer, and also about Inosuke if his mother found out about Douma many years later, and couldn’t get Inosuke to safety. He now acts as Douma’s guard dog, and is sent to hunt down Tanjiro and Nezuko as ordered to, but instead becomes infatuated fascinated with Tanjiro, who is stronger than him despite never eating anyone before. More details under the cut!

As a demon, Inosuke as the temporary ability to shapeshift into any mammal he consumes, kind of like Genya. He also has further, even more unnatural flexibility and can sever his limbs but stays in control of them. It’s unknown if he feels pain.

As I said, Inosuke is Douma’s guard dog, not his child. It ties into Douma seeing Kotoha as a pet to keep around, but taken much further. Inosuke does Douma’s dirty work, mostly picking off members of the cult he doesn’t like, or doing the tasks Muzan assigned that he doesn’t feel like doing. However, he has no real taste for killing humans since he thinks they’re weak, and prefers to fight other demons. Douma forces him to eat more often than not. Inosuke aspires to become an upper moon.

Tanjiro is much different than Nezuko is. Instead of regressing his age into that of a baby sibling, Tanjiro is almost constantly at his rightful mental age and purposefully makes himself taller whenever he’s outside of the box. He has the same blood demon art as Nezuko (bc I think them unknowingly having twin blood arts is cool) and eventually utilizes water breathing later on. He cannot use sun breathing as a demon as it quite literally burns his lungs up and could kill him if he goes too far- for now, of course.

Tanjiro also doesn’t wear the muzzle as often as Nezuko does. It still exists and if he needs to as not to make anyone uncomfortable, he will. But he speaks perfectly, despite the fact that he had a slight lisp from developing bigger fangs suddenly.

Their first meeting goes very similarly to canon. After the fight with the drum demon, Nezuko and Zenitsu are heading for the wisteria house when the sun goes down and Inosuke attacks them, having been tracking them for a few days. Tanjiro is quick to come out and defend them both, defeating Inosuke and completely flooring him since Tanjiro is a demon who hasn’t eaten anyone before but managed to win without even using a blood art. He does also knock him unconscious, which gives them time to get away to the wisteria house.

Later in the night, Inosuke finds the house but cannot cross into the yard since the wisteria blocks his path. Tanjiro stays awake and sits a safe distance away from the trees as well, and they spend most of the night watching each other from across the yard.

Inosuke and Tanjiro do get a moment to finally talk without trying to kill each other on the mountain with the spider demons. Tanjiro and Nezuko are separated, and Tanjiro is left to fight the father demon, only for Inosuke to show up and try to force Tanjiro to fight him instead because he’s rather… taken, with him. Eventually he kills the father demon to get Tanjiro’s full attention, but is frustrated when he’s still distracted trying to find Nezuko. He declares that they’ll meet again and have an epic battle, then disappears.

The canon goes mostly the same from there, except there’s more one-off missions that Tanjiro and Nezuko take where Inosuke is tracking them but only wants Tanjiro’s attention. Nezuko doesn’t know about it, and Tanjiro tries to keep it a secret since he is also becoming fond and affectionate towards Inosuke, realizing that he’s kind of a big dumb dope that doesn’t deserve the life of a demon.

It becomes complicated as Tanjiro keeps working towards becoming human again, and Inosuke begins to learn the truth about what happened to his mother and his place as a demon under Douma’s ruling, but as everything stands before the train arc, Tanjiro and Inosuke are unlikely friends that are slowly starting to fall in love despite it probably being the worst idea ever. They don’t care <3

I also want to give credit to @justafanwarrior who gave me the idea for an enemies to lovers au with Inosuke being raised by Douma on a post I made asking for fic ideas! They didn’t mention a full blown demon au, but their comment gave me the base idea to start with, so thank you so much!

So, since that post was probably my most popular, since I'm a pretty small blog, here we go! I also have a Hashira Polycule if people are interested in that.

Anyways, I'm not the best at diagrams, as you can see. Do I'll explain all down here.

Tanjiro x Inosuke: They're obviously boyfriends. They both are super close and their relationship is definitely Tanjiro being super affectionate and Inosuke being all "Ew affection! (Blushing)"

Tanjiro x Zenitsu: They're in a three way with Inosuke. The two of them are probably really romantic and like, give each other flowers everyday or smth. They are sort of the opposite of InoTan. Zenitsu usually thinks "my idiot bfs." On most days though.

Tanjiro x Kanao: Their relationship is basically the same to Canon. Just Tanjiro opening up Kanao and helping her show her true feelings and her real personality. Cute. They adopted Kabamaru.

Tanjiro x Genya: Its literally Sunshine + Asshole. No joke. And they're in a three-way with Muichiro so its like, Sunshine and two Assholes.

Tanjiro x Muichiro: They're really close, and Muichiro loves that Tanjiro made him able to remember his lost memories, even if Tanjiro didn't actually do it.

Tanjiro x Aoi: I forgot to put this one! Yeah they're a thing but probably less. Like I feel like Aoi is asexual anyway, so they're relationship is definitely romantic. I think they are just more subtle and stuff, and are more dating because like, "Oh, our bfs are so dumb."

Nezuko x Zenitsu: They're like, dating but in a way of a newly married couple. Like Tanjiro, the two are disgustingly romantic and cute. Zenitsu is always ,aking lovey-dovey faces at Nezuko.

Nezuko x Inosuke: Zenitsu, Nezuko, and Inosuke are all in a three-way, but like ,, Inosuke is VERY different. His idea of a date is going to catch some squirrels or smth. Yeah-

Nezuko x Kanao: They're in a 3-way with Aoi. The two of them are naturally quiet people, but they get along really well anyways. The two always go out on hikes and cute stuff like that!

Nezuko x Aoi: They like hanging out in the kitchen and doing cutesy baking date stuff. They probably have a lot of picnics and bake-offs, since Aoi is super competitive.

Zenitsu x Inosuke: They have a fiery relationship, but they both acre about each other a lot. They probably get into stupid fights about like, Inosuke not freezing over winter AND PUTTING ON A DAMN SHIRT.

Zenitsu x Genya: The two are both like, head over heels in love with Tanjiro, and then I think they sort of fell with each other, even though Genya still thinks Zenitsu is a dumbass.

Inosuke x Genya: They have an instense, hot relationship, and the two are probably both super competitive with each other. So yeah!

Inosuke x Aoi: They're probably exactly like Canon so. Yep!

Genya x Muichiro: They're also dating lol. Genya is probably really shy around him while Muichiro is like, oh hey, Genya, wassup. He's probably pretty clueless at first to how Genya feels.

Kanao x Aoi: They've probably been dating for a while. I imagine it's a childhood best friends to lovers sort of situation. They're super close and they love each other, move on.

unpopular opinion -> Inosuke is such a misunderstood character. He's incredibly emotional and I think that a lot of people only characterize him in a very surface level way. It makes me so disheartened! He loves his friends so dearly and SO passionately and it's very obvious he has been through a lot of pain and loss in his life (but just doesn't understand how to process it in a healthy way). But what do I know, he's just haha funny ugly boar loud boy.

I thought I was the only one who get annoyed when people saw Inosuke as Bakugou of Demon Slayer because HE IS FAR FROM THAT. There is a line between being short-tempered and act brutal for being raised in the wild with having superiority complex and being a petty bully (Inosuke has kind of superiority complex, but at least, it's not because he wants to be number 1, but because he is genuinely interested to people's strength, so that's why he treats fighting like it's a fun game to him, while Baku see everything as winning. Inosuke didn't whine when he loses, instead he was surprised and amazed by others' strength, while Baku throws temper tantrum when he loses).

It's also invalidating his backstory because his backstory explaining his constant short-tempered attitude : being raised in the wild. Children who raised in the wild will become feral and Inosuke is literally a feral wild child. While Bakugou was raised in the modern city and modernized environment.

Also, I'm sick people comparing InoTan with BakuDeku just because both of the ship features "sweet kindhearted green bean and feral gremlin" like didn't Baku abusing Deku for fucking 10 years, even telling him to jump off the roof over being quirkless (which is suicide-baiting)??? While Inotan mostly focused on Inosuke looking up Tanjiro as the way to learn how to socializes with humans, so whenever Tanjiro showing kindness to everyone, Inosuke is like "Oh, so this is how I supposed to treat humans". Tanjiro also look up to him for strength. Both look up each other to motivated themselves. While BakuDeku? Nothing than just constant physical abuses, bullying and insults 24/7 non-stop.

It's shit like this that makes me glad that I'm not into MHA because the series seems like normalizing bullying and it's portrayed as a-okay with it. What kind of message is that???

literally the only connection between inosuke and bakugo is that theyre loud and “angry”. one of my friends dislikes inosuke because of the scene when he beat up zenitsu for the box with nezuko but like ?? how the hell else would he act, he was raised by wild boars for crying out loud. you wouldnt know “decency” either if you were raised in an environment like that.

i do get why bakugo is the way he is, and i even relate to him a bit, but that doesnt excuse how he’s treated izuku just for existing.

hello! i’ve been wanting to ask, what about tanzen made you like them? they don’t seem to be a very popular ship (it makes me sad cuz i like them so much!), esp in western fandom ):

hi there anon! there are a lot of reasons why i ship them so much, but i think the main reason is that out of all the characters, they have the most chemistry. to me i think theyre the most compatible and that's enough for me to be interested in their relationship and see how they grow as a couple!

actually, im not entirely sure about zentan not being that popular. it's true that on tumblr the zentan tag is very dry but if you go on twitter zentan is quite literally everywhere as long as you look in the right places. the western fandom doesnt ship zentan as much as inotan but the eastern fandom is all over zentan - you can find tons of great artworks and comics on twitter!

i know ao3 isnt exactly overfilling with zentan content but dont worry about it, thats my job and i plan to flood the tag! meanwhile, you can help make the fandom grow by introducing people to kny and then slowly feeding them zentan fics. people will most likely latch on to whatever ship they see first, so if you show them zentan, theyll probably ship it!

though i also understand that not a lot of people like zenitsu due to his (lets face it) obnoxious personality, and in the western world its normal to frown upon the "womanizer" character. however i choose to ignore that part of zenitsu because i know its just the way japan has their own sense of humor, it doesnt necessarily mean harassment is okay, so i love zenitsu because i understand his cowardice and also hes so cute!!

also in addition to that tanjirou is the deku of the fandom. people ship him with anyone so - i think it has more to do with people projecting how they feel/relating to a certain character and trying to ship them with tanjirou because that person is also infatuated with him. which, you know, makes sense, and the western fandom (in my observations) tends to choose the loud, violent, rude character to ship with the main. (an example would be bakudeku)

it isnt anything necessarily bad, but it does leave the zentan fandom a little dry, but thats okay! i think it also has to do with the fact that the anime hasnt been hyped in a while and a lot of people dont read manga/are bummed it ended. the hype will probably pick up again once the movie comes out, so hopefully by then some new zentan shippers can come into light!

about your last post, I get what you said about kanao and aoi but, them being sisters is not as emphasized as it is with shinobu and kanao. Plus wouldn't it mean that inotan and inozen is also bad because Inosuke called them like his brothers? Sorry I don't wanna sound rude I wanna hear your thoughts cause I'm not sure what to think

well, they were taken in by the same person/people and grew up together exactly as adopted sisters. i think there’s a scene or an omake of when kanao was choosing her name and aoi encouraged her to pick the same family name to show that they’re officially sisters now but even besides that it’s pretty explicit in how they were taken in and raised/trained together, regardless of which dynamics were emphasized most among the four of them.

 i’m not very into shipping in the first place but an actual family dynamic like that isn’t exactly comparable to one line saying “you guys are like brothers to me” when he really just meant that they’d been through a lot together&he’d die for them. tanjirou and nezuko (you said inosuke but i think tanjirou said that) tend to compare people they care about to their family just because they love them without literally having a familial bond with who they’re talking about, like nezuko seeing all humans as her family, and i think that line was an example of that.

basically, it’s really not fair to say that relationships in adopted/found families can be reduced to “i said we’re like brothers so now we literally are” and that there’s absolutely no difference between two people raised together as siblings and two close friends.  adopted siblings aren’t anything less than siblings. idk i hope this helps but others feel free to add on with screenshots or whatever else because the way i see it kanao and aoi are CANONICALLY sisters, which means it’s harmful to portray that dynamic as romantic

Yes. X3 I ended up enjoying their dumb, lighthearted interactions the most. These fun bickering (rival-ish?) idiots turned to trusted and supportive battle partners with great synergy (still huge cute idiots sharing just one brain cell), which is a familiar dynamic + progression right up my alley actually!

I didn’t expect it going into the series (been casually following the anime for a while), yet it surprisingly didn’t take much to click easily either. :O Probably cause it already felt similar enough to bnha’s fantasy au (feral beast boy + kind green bean on a mission) to recognize what their dynamic would become even from their first interactions (in ep14), ahaha. (Even their characters’ bdays are coincidentally just 1-2 days off from dk and bk’s respectively too, which is ahhh!! With their behavior, they just write themselves. :P) And sure enough, after binging the manga this past week, I was pleased to see just how much of it was full of their wholesome interactions. (Very well-fed!) So it was quite a smooth-sailing no-brainer and pretty much how I thought they’d progress too, so I wasn’t disappointed at all! :D Ahaha they’re very good and entertaining just as they are!

(^What a classic first meeting, ohoho.)

I like how Inosuke always gets surprised, stunned and impressed with like everything Tanjirou does (from his acts of genuine kindness to how he fights…heck, Tanjirou broke his ribs and knocked him out with a head-butt the first time they met, which totally got his attention). So then Inosuke’s gotta make it a competition to do it even better, and either tries to provoke him (doesn’t work; Tanjirou’s too kind as sunshine incarnate) or shows off with full bravado cause he really wants to impress him too. He’s all ‘watch me!’ and gets mad if Tanjirou doesn’t see ahaha. He likes getting praised by him (Tanjirou already thinks he’s awesome), and each time Tanjirou’s nice to him, he gets these warm fuzzy ‘fuwa fuwa’ feelings. (Cutely processing unfamiliar positive emotions.) The anime took it even further in ep16 with the fuzzies blooming progressively more for him each time, which was omggg wow. X3

Beyond their initial meeting (and into some manga spoiler territory) when they start really working and fighting together on missions, they build lots of trust and back-to-back teamwork. Where they start fighting in sync and thinking on the same wavelength. Keeping an eye out to shield each other from lethal injuries and accidents, even taking blows for each other too. :’) Tanjirou took a stab wound to the gut for him one time, got thrown out of a moving train, and still told him to save the other passengers. Yet Inosuke’s priority was to run after him instead to see if he was ok. ;o; (I love their banter where Inosuke’s all ‘I think it’s ok if (the guy who stabbed him) dies!!’ Genuinely ready to throw hands with the guy cause Tanjirou got hurt…just lol and aww.) Another time when Tanjirou’s panicking and wailing over an injured Inosuke on the verge of death, once he pulls through, Tanjirou jumps him with a big relieved hug. ;A;

This post lists a lot of their manga interactions like that, but another fav is seeing their very cute hospital recovery scenes (with bonus rehab training). Once Tanjirou regains consciousness, then Inosuke’s sure to come barreling in to greet him with style. One time this feral-ass climbed the literal ceiling just to surprise drop right onto Tanjirou’s mattress (laying there he could still see him coming though aha); then the next time he just plowed right through the fucking window. He was that excited to see him (which the manga even points out). XD While Tanjirou’s usually the one to openly worry and fret over him, it’s adorable when Inosuke admits he’s worried too and hovers close by his bedside. :’)) (He clings to him too sometimes; it’s so cute.)

Overall their friendship dynamic felt well-paced and very natural, with even cute downtime slice-of-life interactions between all the fighting action, so it was a lot of fun. :3 I definitely had a feeling about them from their first meeting (already a suspiciously familiar dynamic) and was really glad to see how well they turned out. Back-to-back battle partners who trust and inspire each other further, and actively protect and worry over each other too is just yooooo (plus, they’re hilarious dumbasses on top of that, ahaha). Now the next fun part will be seeing how much further the anime will continue adapting them! :D
