It's a almost a month into your job as her security guard when she finally asks, "Can I ask you something?" You look up from the book in your hand.
"You can ask me anything Ma'am." You respond, setting the book down and giving her your attention.
"When you signed the contract you corrected one of my lawyers about you being Miss. and not Mrs. Were you married before?" You feel your chest tighten at the question. It certainly wasn't the question you were expecting.
You feel your chest tighten at the question, a rush of memories flooding your mind like a relentless tide. It wasn't a topic you were used to discussing, let alone with someone like Wanda, but her gentle curiosity urges you to open up, if only for a moment.
"I was," you respond, your voice flat, devoid of the usual stoicism.
Wanda's expression softens, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sympathy and understanding. "Is it okay to ask about it? I don't want to overstep," she speaks delicately, her concern palpable.
You take a moment to gather your thoughts, the weight of the past pressing down upon you. "It's not by any means a good story," you admit, your gaze flickering away from hers. "But if you want to hear it..."
Her unwavering gaze prompts you to continue, despite the reluctance gnawing at your insides. "We were high school sweethearts. Dated all four years, and when we turned 18, she wanted to get married. So we just went to city hall and did the paper thing. Said we'd do a big wedding when I was done with my tours."
You pause, the memories threatening to overwhelm you. "She was always so supportive, but when I came back from my last tour, things were different. Turns out she wasn't okay with waiting anymore, and I was in no condition from my last tour to do anything like a wedding. Came home ready to tell her about Val and the job opportunity, but she was gone... ten years, and she left me with a note."
The words hang heavy in the air, a tangible reminder of the pain you've carried with you for so long. Without realizing it, tears begin to blur your vision, a silent testament to the wounds that still haven't fully healed.
Before you can retreat into the walls you've built around yourself, Wanda is suddenly there, her arms wrapping around you in a comforting embrace. She's practically in your lap, her presence a warm anchor amidst the storm of emotions threatening to consume you.
Wanda's words wash over you like a soothing balm, her empathy a comforting presence in the midst of your turmoil. You're taken aback by the raw emotion in her voice, the sincerity evident in every syllable. It's a side of her you hadn't seen before, one that speaks to the depth of her compassion and understanding.
"I am so sorry, Y/N. You didn't deserve that. No one deserves that," she says, her voice trembling with emotion. "She could have at least waited and said it to your face."
Her words strike a chord deep within you, stirring emotions you've long since buried beneath layers of stoicism. For the first time in what feels like an eternity, you allow yourself to be vulnerable, to acknowledge the pain that still lingers beneath the surface.
In a moment of uncharacteristic vulnerability, you find yourself pulling Wanda closer, your arms wrapping around her waist as she settles onto your lap. She allows your tears to fall freely, offering silent solace in the embrace of your shared grief.
For a fleeting moment, the roles are reversed, and you find yourself seeking comfort in the arms of the woman you've sworn to protect. It feels oddly liberating, this unspoken exchange of support and understanding, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that binds you together.
As Wanda's comforting touch soothes the ache in your heart, time seems to blur into a haze of shared sorrow and quiet understanding. Minutes stretch into hours, the only constant the gentle rhythm of her hand rubbing circles on your back.
You try to apologize for your outburst, but Wanda cuts you off with a determined look, her hand cupping your face with a surprising tenderness. "Stop. You have nothing to be sorry about," she insists, her voice filled with conviction. "She broke your heart, turned your whole world upside down, and she just got to walk away like it never mattered. I don't know how she could have done that to you."
Her words strike a chord deep within you, stirring a sense of righteous anger at the injustice of it all. You find yourself lost in the depths of her gaze, her eyes reflecting a fire that matches the intensity of your own emotions.
Unable to resist the magnetic pull between you, you nod in silent agreement, a sense of solidarity forming between you like an unbreakable bond. When Wanda smiles at your acquiescence, your stomach flips with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation.
She's so close to you now, her warmth seeping into your very soul, and you can't help but notice how beautiful she looks in the flickering firelight. The urge to lean in and kiss her is almost overwhelming, a primal instinct that refuses to be ignored.
Your hands, which had loosened from their earlier grip, now find purchase on her hips, fingers curling around the curves of her body as if seeking reassurance in her proximity. The air between you crackles with tension, thick with unspoken desires and unexplored possibilities.
In that moment, with her so close and your heart pounding in your chest, you realize that perhaps, there's more to this connection than meets the eye.
As Wanda's gaze flickers downward to your lips, you feel a surge of desire coursing through your veins, a primal instinct urging you to close the distance between you. Her hesitation is palpable, but the hunger in her eyes speaks volumes, mirroring the raw intensity of your own longing.
You catch the subtle movement of her tongue darting out to wet her lips, a gesture that sends a shiver down your spine. The temptation to lean in and taste her is almost overwhelming, a magnetic pull that refuses to be denied.
But even as your instincts scream for release, you can't shake the nagging voice of reason at the back of your mind. You know the boundaries that shouldn't be crossed, the consequences that could come from succumbing to this forbidden desire.
And yet, in the heat of the moment, with her so close and the fire of passion burning bright between you, those concerns seem distant and inconsequential. All you can think about is the taste of her lips, the feel of her body pressed against yours, the sweet surrender of giving in to this undeniable attraction.
But as you gaze into her eyes, you realize that perhaps, just perhaps, this moment is meant to be savored, not rushed. And so, with a silent vow to honor the boundaries that keep you apart, you lean back just slightly, allowing the space between you to linger like a promise unfulfilled.
In that moment, with the fire still burning bright and the night stretching out before you, you find solace in the unspoken understanding that this desire, though powerful, is something to be cherished, not consumed.
"It's late, we should get to bed," you finally break the silence, the words feeling heavy on your tongue as you try to push aside the swirling emotions that threaten to consume you.
Wanda's pout is unmistakable, her disappointment evident in the downturn of her lips. For a fleeting moment, you're tempted to give in to the urge to stay, to lose yourself in the intoxicating allure of her presence.
But the weight of responsibility bears down upon you, a reminder of the boundaries that must be upheld, even in the face of temptation. You can't risk crossing that line, not when the consequences could be so devastating.
Wanda gets off of your lap, pout still adorning her face and its hard to ignore as the two of you make your way to her room, making sure she gets there safely. As she goes to enter her bedroom your hand grabs for her wrist. The action catches both of you off guard as your body moves on instinct, pulling her back into you, holding her against your chest. As you pull back you lean down giving a peck to her cheek.
“Thank you for everything tonight. It was something I needed.” Wanda’s face was flushed when you pulled back, making you smirk. “I’ll see you in the morning Ma’am.” You turned around, letting her go as you walked down the hall to your room. Maybe one day you’d be able to give yourself to her, but not tonight.

i just finally started watching LOK and i know that one of Korra’s biggest offenses, in a lot of peoples minds, is that she “allowed” her connection to the past avatars to be erased and ended the cycle, etc. etc. after watching how it all plays out, though, I really do think it makes the most sense for that to have happened. I don’t think it’s Korra’s fault that the avatar cycle has restarted at all.
Wan was alive at the end of the last 10,000 year spirit cycle, the last time spirits and humans coexisted, and he ultimately fused with raava and closed the spirit portals during harmonic convergence to keep vaatu at bay and keep the balance between the spirit world and natural world the best way he knew how, to keep them separate. the humans weren’t, at the time, able to advance, let alone coexist between lion turtle tribes, with the constant threat of the spirits. even after closing the portals, Wan spent the rest of his life trying to keep the physical world from falling apart. and it’s been the avatars duty to do that from then on, Wan’s bravery and raava’s spirit lives in every avatar that exists from then on. there are roughly ~100 generations of people (or 81 avatars) between wan and korra, and the world shifted and changed over and over. even in the 60 or so years between ATLA and LOK, the avatar universe completely transformed from what we saw in ATLA. and aang himself was shocked by how different the world looked after 100 years of being away at the time of his series.
i think 10,000 years is a complete avatar cycle. regardless of wether wan had fused with raava in the last dark/light struggle, raava and vaatu were going to battle again. the planets were going to align, harmonic convergence was going to happen again. it’s spirit world fate combined with natural world fate. the balance of the world goes far beyond any political struggle of the physical world, or any light/dark battle in the spiritual one. it’s not korra’s fault the cycle ended, the spirit world and physical world were just shifting again.
the past avatar advice was crucial for aang’s journey to to bring balance to the physical world. there were certainly spiritual avatars, but it’s assumed the majority of them dealt with political material world conflicts. and again, the world changes fast. you don’t even see aang talk to any of his past lives before kuruk. just 4 avatars ago, and that’s already ~400 years before aang was alive (though that’s kiyoshis fault for living so long) yes it’s upsetting for 10,000 years of connection and lived avatar wisdom to be severed, but that advice is no use to a new 10,000 year age that looks nothing like the previous.
it’s always been the avatar’s duty to keep balance between the physical and spirit worlds, korra’s choice to not close the spirit portals makes complete sense. it had been 10,000 years since it had been closed during the harmonic convergence that Wan saw. 10,000 years of avatars to, as it seems for the most part, assist the physical world and their governments to be able to coexist peacefully as a modern society. and aang finally achieved that by ending the 100 year war and uniting the nations. now it’s korra’s duty to start a new 10,000 year avatar cycle and begin the coexistence of the spirit and physical world. it would have happened if korra or eska or even oogi became the next avatar.

Avatar Cycle Trivia
Avatar Wan
Wan's name translates to "ten thousand" in Mandarin Chinese, as he lived ten thousand years before Avatar Korra. His name is also a pun on "one", as in Avatar number one.
Wan wore the colour of each of the four nations during his battle against Vaatu. His robes were yellow and orange (air), his armbands were green (earth), his sash was blue (water), and his scarf was red (fire).
In addition to becoming the first Avatar, Wan is also the first true firebender, as he was the first person to learn firebending from a dragon.
By fusing with Raava during Harmonic Convergence, Wan is technically the oldest Avatar to be identified, being 21 at the time.
The Earth Kingdom battlefield where Wan died is the same field that Zuko visits millennia later in Zuko Alone (Book 2: Episode 7). Interestingly, Wan first appeared in Beginnings, Part 1, which was the seventh episode of Legend of Korra, Book 2: Spirits.
Avatar Yangchen
Yangchen is the only known Avatar to have a sibling (Jetsun).
Yangchen is technically the first Avatar to have an established Team Avatar (not counting Wan and Raava).
Yangchen had split-personality disorder with her past lives, where she essentially suffered from nightmares of her past lives bleeding into her present self.
Yangchen's companion Kavik is the first person ever seen get chi-blocked.
Yangchen did not like the idea of people creating statues of herself in the future. Ironically, she was greatly revered in the Four Nations, and a statue each was built in both the Eastern and Western Air Temples.
Avatar Kuruk
Kuruk is currently the only known Avatar whose predecessor and successor were both women (Yangchen and Kyoshi respectively).
Kuruk had more lovers in 3 decades than Kyoshi did in over 2 centuries (the true story is more tragic).
Kuruk had a habit of challenging random people to feats of strength, which makes him the only known Avatar in history to have participated in an Agni Kai.
Kuruk was the best hunter and tracker in the history of the Four Nations. It's said there was nothing he couldn't hunt or track down (that includes spirits).
Kuruk is the only known Avatar to enter the Spirit World after death. Considering that only people with a special connection to the Spirit World can enter at death (such as Iroh and Yue), this means Kuruk must have had a spiritual connection rivalling that of most Air Nomad monks or nuns.
Avatar Kyoshi
Kyoshi is the only known Avatar known to be of mixed nationality; her father was from the Earth Kingdom, while her mother was a renegade Air Nomad.
Kyoshi had a rare condition with her earthbending where she could move large objects with ease but had difficulty in moving smaller objects (Suffering From Success).
Kyoshi has witnessed more passings of Sozin's Comet than anyone else, with three (not counting Lao Ge).
Kyoshi learned the secret to immortality from Lao Ge, which led her to have the longest lifespan of any Avatar.
Kyoshi has threatened both the Earth King and the Firelord.
Avatar Roku
Roku and Firelord Sozin share the same birthday.
Roku has been featured in the introduction sequences of both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Roku is the only known Avatar to appear old when he was called upon by the current Avatar.
When Roku entered the Avatar State for the first time, he destroyed the Fire Sage Temple.
Roku's dragon Fang is the only animal companion ever seen in the Spirit World.
Avatar Aang
It took Aang longer than any Avatar in history to become fully realized, being over a century old.
Aang has a scar on his back and on his foot, because of how electricity works.
Aang choosing four toys out of thousands – to identify him as the Avatar as these four toys were the same ones that past Avatars had chosen for generations when they were children – was the same procedure used by the Tibetan Buddhist monks to recognize the next reincarnation of the Tulku Lama.
Aang has met the original source of every bending art: a flying bison for air, the Moon Spirit for water, badgermoles for earth, and two dragons for fire.
Aang is the first Avatar to have his picture taken.
Avatar Korra
At four years old, Korra is the youngest Avatar in history to be identified.
Korra is the first Avatar to learn spiritbending.
Korra is the only Avatar to break out of bloodbending without the use of the Avatar State (sorry, Aang).
Korra is the only Avatar to have killed a member of her own family (Unalaq).
Korra is the first known person to ever tame a polar bear-dog (Naga).
Miscellaneous
Wan and Roku are the only two Avatars to die in combat.
Roku and Aang are the only two Avatars to fight a volcano. Aang was successful, while Roku died.
Aang and Korra are the only two Avatars to ever be defeated in the Avatar State.
Aang and Kyoshi are the only two Avatars to ever get hit by lightning. Ironically, when Kyoshi was hit by lightning, her chakras were opened and she gained the ability to enter the Avatar State; conversely, Aang's chakras were blocked and he was unable to enter the Avatar State.
Kuruk and Roku are the only two Avatars to have been identified the "traditional" way in their respective nations at 16; Wan fused with Raava at 21, Kyoshi was identified at 16 when she recited Kuruk's poem, and Yangchen, Aang and Korra were identified at younger ages.
Yangchen, Aang, and Korra are the only Avatars to have been identified at younger ages than 16.
Wan, Aang, and Korra are the only Avatars who are modeled after real-life people. Wan is modeled after co-creator Bryan Konietzko (but with cooler hair); young Aang is modeled after Arjuna, Sifu Kisu's son (but Aang is bald), while adult Aang is modeled after co-creator Mike DiMartino; and Korra is modeled after various female MMA fighters, most notably Gina Carrano.
Roku and Korra are the only two Avatars who have worn an outfit from each of the four nations on-screen.
Roku and Korra are the only two Avatars to have connections to royalty. Firelord Zuko, and thus every following Firelord, are descendants of both Roku and Sozin, whereas Korra's father was a member of the Northern Water Tribe's royal family, and was later elected as the chief of the newly independent Southern Water Tribe.
When Kyoshi first met Yangchen, she (Kyoshi) mistook Yangchen for her own mother.
When Kyoshi first met Kuruk, she almost drowned her physical body trying to communicate with him.
Roku and Yangchen are the only two Avatars to have hugged the current Avatar at the time (Aang and Kyoshi respectively).
Wan, Korra, and Kuruk are the only Avatars to refer to Raava by name, although the latter (Kuruk) had never met Raava.
Yangchen, Kuruk, and Aang are the only Avatars to have invented an airbending technique. By extension, Kuruk is the only person outside of the Air Nomads to invent an airbending technique (he didn't get his mastery tattoos, what a shame).
Aang and Korra are the only two Avatars to learn energybending.
Kyoshi, Roku, and Aang are the only Avatars to use bending after their respective deaths.
Kyoshi, Roku, and Aang are also the only Avatars to have descendants (but let's be realistic, so did Kuruk).
Aang and Korra both learned their native element from a companion of the previous Avatar, and their final element from a descendant of the previous Avatar. Aang learned airbending from Monk Gyatso, a companion of Roku, and learned firebending from Zuko, Roku's great-grandson. Korra learned waterbending from Katara, Aang's wife, and learned airbending from Tenzin, Aang and Katara's youngest son.
That's all the fun facts I could find.

As much as a critisize the legend of korra (esp the first two seasons) i must say, Beginnings part 1 & 2 are the absolute best two episodes released in the entire Avatar series. The animation, the lore, the MUSIC. Everytime i watch these two episodes i get emotional. It's just so magical. "Haven't you heard the legends? I'm not a regular human anymore!" Fuck it UP steven yeun!!
