I miss fun TV shows with ragtag friend groups getting into wacky hijinks. Like yeah fine they save the world or whatever but more importantly, they crack jokes and get into shenanigans and take care of each other. Miss the hell out of that shit.

As someone who got into science fiction later in life, I find it quite comforting to see that there are still a lot of people obsessing and discussing about tv shows that were on the air 30 years ago.
It makes me feel much less alone, and connected to a whole group of people who, like me, find some of these stories and characters so compelling they can't not talk about them and share their love for the narratives.
And that's the power of fiction, of stories that make us feel closer to our humanity and to humanity in general.

ever find it interesting how differently different sci-fi shows use distance? in star trek (voyager) it took 7 years and would've taken several decades to get from one side of the milky way galaxy to the other. in stargate, you can travel anywhere in the universe in a second through the gate system, and it takes the Daedalus 3 weeks to get from the milky way galaxy to the Pegasus galaxy - and this is considered an inconveniently long commute. if Janeway had access to the gate system she would've gotten her crew home before anyone proclaimed them missing. it's insane.

one of the things i love most about the atlantis expedition is that they're comprised of extremely brilliant people (experts in their field with crazy cross-training due to the nature of the mission) BUT they're also not the best of the best — can't be because it's likely a one-way trip — so these brilliant people are still, in some capacity and in Earth's perspective, expendable

Arriving at the wardrobe, I saw that neither my companions nor any crewmen would be coming with us on this excursion. Captain Nemo hadn’t even suggested my fetching Ned or Conseil.
OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING
SO SO SMOOTH NEMO

Stargate the movie & Star Trek tos: these things exist on opposite ends of a spectrum. I don't know what that spectrum is exactly, but they are definitely opposites on it.
TNG & SG1: hey remember that thing people liked? What if we made it awesome
DS9 & SGA: great, but what if the story was about a city, and it was really far away from everything but also super important? Also there are these one aliens that literally everyone hates
Voyager & Universe: okay, but what if we just drop kicked the characters to the other end of existence??

Robert Picardo getting interviewed by Robbie McNeill in the latest “The Delta Flyers” episode about “Someone to watch over me” - while he’s wearing his Stargate Atlantis hat.
“It’s just a reminder, Robbie, what an incredibly successful science fiction actor I am, having dominated in two different sci fi franchises”.

My favorite piece of trivia at the moment in the genius behind the SGA theme is the son of the genius behind the VOY theme.
