Isley Brothers Co-founder Rudolph Isley Dies at 84
Rudolph Isley, who co-founded the Isley Brothers with his siblings in 1955, has died.
Isley was 84; no cause was given.
“Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Rudolph Isley,” band co-founder Ronald Isley and Ernie Isley, who joined in 1969, said in a statement.
“ … Remember to hold your loved ones close. We will miss our brother but we know he’s in a better place.”
The band, which also included the late O’Kelly, Vernon and Marvin Isley at various points, scored hits across several decades, including “Shout,” “Twist and Shout,” “This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You),” “It’s Your Thing” and “That Lady.”
“The (Isley Brothers) navigated every cultural shift with skill, responding to emerging styles and trends with new sounds and always another hit,” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted the group in 1992, said in a remembrance.
Rudolph Isley left the band in 1989 to become a preacher, leaving Ronald and Ernie to carry on. They released their most-recent album in 2002 and continue to tour.
“May Rudolph Isley rest in peace and love,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said.

Listen, I'm not out just for an easy lay -
I really love you in a special way.
Unlock the door, girl, we can throw away the key;
See, I want more of you, and girl, here's all of me.
