11. Should the show have ended happily?

Now isn't that a question for the millennia. I am a self-proclaimed tragedy enjoyer. I LOVE when shit is inevitable and preventable all wrapped up in a convoluted spiderweb of trolley problems and circumstances of fate.

But the thing is.

I had this whole spiel typed out about tragedy and catharsis and how that could work for the tone of supernatural but I realized that spn has done that. Countless times. Like every season finale is some type of tragedy. And then it just keeps going. There is never peace. We are never done.

So I think from a tonal and narrative perspective it would feel more conclusive to end on a high note. I guess they were going for bittersweet, maybe? But it was incredibly unsatisfying

If you're gonna spend 15 years putting these two white dudes in the torment nexus maybe just. Maybe just let them end on something not terrible. Right?

I think part of why the current ending is so deeply unsatisfying is because it negates all of spn. Sam goes back to living normally. Dean dies young and bloody. But that just doesn't feel good, even in a tragic way.

I think maybe the only way the ending would have felt like the end would have been if maybe for a fucking moment these characters just got to be alright.

thinking about connor in prague saying "dad's theory was you got two fighting dogs, you send the weak one away, you punish the weak one." in relation to this episode, and the way the siblings view abuse inside their own family.

shiv and kendall and their belief that connor and roman are the weak dogs that got the brunt of logan's worst behavior, because abuse is reserved for the kids who can't behave - the ones who aren't smart and mature enough to make it in the world. abuse evokes pity, because abuse is what happens when you expect too much from people who obviously aren't capable of more.

and then they go forward in life, believing that they're just naturally more intelligent and more capable than connor and roman, as if being raised seeing what happens to you if you aren't a perfect child wasn't the entire point of the "punish the weak dog" mentality that logan instilled in them. the looming threat implied behind any praise they do receive that tacitly tells them "you're not like roman and connor" because everyone knows what happens to roman and connor.

the absolute height of the rich capitalist mindset. "we're succeeding because of our own merit, and other people fail because they don't have what it takes" when in reality they're succeeding because of arbitrary rules made up by someone who knows that infighting makes meaner dogs.

#he's literally putting them in a position where admitting that he abused them #forces them to admit that they're 'weak dogs' just like roman and connor #and that's SO antithetical to their own image of themselves that it would destabilize their entire worldview to admit that #and so they're stuck in this state of being able to admit that their dad IS abusive and he IS an asshole #but are absolutely unable to view themselves as receiving of that abuse #because being abused means being a victim. and victims are weak people who get fucked over.#and if they're weak people than how are they ever going to beat their dad?#they're so wrapped up in the worldview logan raised them in that they're completely unable to see #that he's set them up in a game they can't win #you can't heal from abuse if you can't admit that the things that happened to you were abuse in the first place #succession #also you may be asking 'vinnie didn't you make a post just like this last night'#and the answer is yes. but i'm still thinking about it. so.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?

I've been reading ff since I was really young, probably 10 or 11. I didn't start writing, however, until I was in high school! I was sick a lot my last year of school, so I ended up staying home way more that year. I was bored and lonely and feeling icky so I wrote a sicfic to make myself feel better lol. I took a break from writing while I was in college (WAY too busy for it) but I got back into it right before graduating bc the destiel brainrot was too powerful to keep contained. Now, here I am!

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings

The ship itself is a headcanon of mine and one I've held basically since I first started watching SPN-- Sam and Spencer from iCarly dated in college. I just think it's SO funny. They were in prelaw together!!! Maybe they were even roommates!! They both like their hair long and have dead moms and associations with fire AND parental relationships with their siblings. I think they would find a lot of solace in each other, oddly enough. Spencer is so goofy and charismatic, I think Sam would find him hilarious. He's also earnest and passionate, which I think Sam would admire a lot. Sam is so serious and dedicated, I think Spencer would really admire his focus and drive. (Mostly, this is just bc I want nice things for Sam. That, and while I do think Sam is queer, I don't care for a single mlm ship with him and any canon characters LMAO)

I AM A SLUT FOR NORMAL ASS HUMAN MAN DEAN!!!!!

I LOVE that he can't see angel trueforms I LOVE that he's not psychic (he's an intuitive character yes but c'mon guys it's just bad writing and main character syndrome) I LOVE that he's not a genius but that he's got a lot of great spacial awareness/mechanical know-how (i.e his home made EMF and his ability to revive Baby)

We all have our own little Dean that we keep in our shirt pockets so he's close to our hearts. I'm not here to tell anyone which version of Dean is the Most Correct and Accurate. But to me, the best Dean is one whose greatest strengths and competencies just come by nature of him working hard and doing what he knows he does well. Like he's LITERALLY God's specialest little princess AND just some guy.

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Well, any of course! But I do love when people leave comments about the little details that they noticed. A theme or motif I wove into the story of the chapters, a bit of prose that really struck a chord with them, a line that made them laugh or cry!

It's always lovely to hear when my writing resonates with someone, but it's addicting to hear which parts specifically really did them in lol
