Liv. I have been wondering. As someone who works in the library scene, do you have any advice on how to get there? I'm really interested in that line of work ans college is coming up fast, I was just wondering if you have any personal thoughts!

i’m gonna take two different approaches to answering this question. first, the purely logistical answer:

lots of folks don’t know this, but to actually be a full fledged librarian, you need a masters degree. however, there are lots of folks in paraprofessional roles (like me!!!!) who only have an undergrad degree. so first things first, get an undergrad degree in a related field (mine is in english, but education might be an even better fit). my advice would be NOT to go straight through to your masters, but instead get some boots on the ground experience in a paraprofessional role first to be sure this is really your desired path before shelling out the money for your masters

this brings me to my second point, which is that based solely on my own experience (a small rural public library), most folks have absolutely no clue what they are getting into when they enter the library field. i don’t regularly talk about books with anyone. i never read on the clock. instead, let me run you through my workday so far:

- i field 3 separate phone calls from a patron who is actually banned from our physical locations following a violent incident, but still calls us regularly. i look up some tv scheduling info for him, all the while deescalating the shit out of the situation, because he’s not happy with the info i’m giving him & i want to keep our conversation positive

- i shred a ton of documents for a patron. we don’t normally shred things for the public, but this is our compromise, because otherwise this patron will flush them down the toilets & ruin our plumbing

- i send a fax for a patron that inexplicably takes an hour to go through

- i provide a ton of tech help, spending about a half hour with a patron fighting with our state’s department of revenue website to try to file the fuel taxes for her trucking business

- this is all between check ins, check outs, shelving, and loads of other small interactions too brief to be of note

- worth mentioning that we’re extremely short staffed today, so it was only a coworker & me for the first half of the shift

i’ve omitted a lot of personal details to protect patron privacy & avoid engaging in trauma porn, but believe me when i say that there’s a ton of additional context that makes a lot of these interactions all the more precarious & challenging

all of this is to say that if you want to be happy in a patron facing public library role, you need to love people, embrace chaos, and have extraordinary customer service skills

therefore, i recommend getting volunteer & work experience with the public while in college, ideally with vulnerable populations. make sure you love it. hone your people skills. and then enter the library world with confidence!!!! it’s insane but awesome

i love the idea that Wild is a big brother to basically all of the kids in his Hyrule. it’s such a good heacanon that i never see utilized.

Hey Liv!!! I know a lot of people come to you for advice like school and other things and there's somethin bugging me lolol.

I'm not sure if you went to college but the other day I was talking about my predicament of on level classes this year as a highschooler and one of my peers degraded me and said that colleges look at your freshman year the most when looking at applications. And like. I think that's silly. You're getting used to a new school and new curriculum and most of the time a new body there's no way they'd hold your freshman year accountable for your performance like that. But I do wonder.

Do you know anything about that ?

so not only do i have a bachelor's degree, but my first job after graduating was actually as a college access counselor, so i have a fair amount of knowledge in this area!!!!

so the very short answer is that, no, your freshman year of high school is in no way the most important factor in your application. idk where your peer got their information, but it doesn't align with anything i learned in my training.

the more detailed answer is that yes, all four years of high school, including your first year, are factors in college admissions, for the simple fact that your grades freshman year affect your gpa, as do your grades every year, and your gpa is very important in your application.

however, setting aside your overall gpa, your individual grades freshman year tend to be given the least amount of attention by admissions counselors for the reason you stated--you're adjusting to a new academic environment--and because you tend to be taking the least rigorous courses.

admissions counselors are actually often pretty forgiving of lower grades your freshman year provided your grades improve as you progress through high school, because it shows that you're learning & growing as a student!! and because your later courses are usually more challenging, so you've proven you can take on more rigorous coursework. academic improvement, whether through higher grades or taking on more academic challenges, is looked upon very highly!!!!

in fact, the biggest warning i'd give my students when it came to grades was sort of the opposite--i would urge them to be sure that they didn't grind for the first three years of hs only to massively take their foot off the gas senior year & barely skate by, because that is really not a good look academically.

anyway, i wouldn't put too much stock in your peer's opinion, because to me, they don't seem particularly knowledgeable about this topic. just keep doing your best & don't worry too too much about freshman year!!!

ever since bunny ( @bunnyreaper ) posted about the boys playing animal crossing i have actually thought about it ever since

and i genuinely can’t stop thinking about how soap would be so reluctant to play at first. because he just doesn’t get what you enjoy about building a village and having animal villagers

but one day you finally convince him to do it and he’s instantly hooked. and he takes it way too seriously. and he gets genuinely offended when one of his villagers request to move out. and he can’t go more than 3 days without checking in on his lil villagers cause he feels bad.

So, the house in Hateno, one bed, two table mats, Zelda’s own space in the well, I love the idea that they are actually existing together, that small thing makes me so much more invested. Naturally, they would be close right? The only two left from all that time ago? 

I headcanon that Link remembers the ‘Memories’ but most of the rest of his life is really blurry and patchy, doesn’t remember much about growing up or other people in his life, even knowledge about certain things are missing, like the knowledge of the other races that one would learn at school and random stuff like what his favourite food is. It never truly came back. 

Physically he is fine because he has a sort of muscle memory with regard to his knight training. He relies on Zelda to tell him what she knows of his life, but they both look to the present and the future to build new lives, seeing as almost everyone they knew 100 years ago has since died. 

I love the idea of them existing there. Zelda working in the well and Link is swimming in the pond and napping by the tree. Walking down to the stream below. Hiking up the hill to Heartbreak Pond and the Cherry Blossom tree. Heading up to the lab and shield surfing in the grass. Hiking down to the beach below for the day, camping out, I just love it. Link working with Bolson Construction and building the school. Zelda practising archery by the cliff, the possibilities are endless.

I’m getting sucked in.

Your shoulders plummet down as you watch him stomp away with his hands thrown in the air but that certainly wasn't your last attempt.

🛠 Once Karl got a taste of not being alone in that nightmare factory of his, he'd very begrudgingly seek out your company in more intimate and personal moments than having you around in his workshop or sharing meals with you. The first time it happened, you'd thought this to be it, the end, el final, as you heard him sneaking into your room in the dead of night. Maybe you'd done something so horrendously wrong that he decided to toss you out for good. You froze to your saggy mattress, unable to move until the creaking of the floorboards stopped. You bit down on your lip nearly hard enough to draw blood, panic and fear cursing through your bloodstream but all of that almost evaporated into a shrill, hysteric laugh as you felt his massive form cup yours from behind. Gently spooning you from behind, one arm tenderly yet firm around your waist. He was warm...and weirdly comfortable, cuddly even and yet he'd be gone way before you'd wake up again. Neither of you talking about it at all.

🛠 Temper tantrums 😐 Temper tantrums all the time. Like a little boy who didn't get his favourite candy and now set his mind to making it everybody's problem. He'd roar and cuss through the entire factory until you'd have had enough at some point. Instead of trying to calm him down with gentle words and affirmations, you started ignoring him. For the first few times, that enraged Karl even more, his tantrums turning into a metal bending and tearing rage fit but the longer you stopped talking to him, even going so far as refusing to look at him, the more he quieted down. Eventually sitting down to apologize through gritted teeth and with crossed arms in front of his chest.
