I love the way you write about writing, so I have a writing question.
How do you think the inclusion of Armand in the interview itself will affect the narrative? In the book, part of the devastation was that neither Louis nor the reader saw the betrayal coming, since Armand is all mysterious and shit (until you realize he's basically an Unseelie faerie). Having Armand's side of things be relatively open, even if he's still hiding a lot, could take away some of the impact of that reveal that he was behind "the thing." It's not an absolutely necessary reveal, but Louis being the POV character who gives us facts as they come means that if they're open about Armand's plotting from the start, the audience can get frustrated with Louis for not seeing it coming. But there will be at least some clarity provided by Armand, if he's willing to talk about his Children of Darkness days in such a way where he looks positively feral (/pos) in the promo pics.
How do you think they can pull this off?
Hi! Sorry for the short delay in replying but, as I said, I wanted to think about this for a bit before I answered.
Warning -- Spoilers for the books and possibly Season 2 below:
So, of course, the key here will be how they structure when the reveal of not only "the thing" (and I'm assuming you mean the Claudia thing) happens. But also the reveal of Armand's backstory, especially the Children of Darkness stuff.
I can only speak for myself, but the way I think/suspect they will do it is to have the first few episodes play out exactly like the book does, with the majority of it being from Louis' POV; adding in Claudia's POV (via her diaries), and with the added bonus of Armand's POV sprinkled in as well, mostly being when he's interacting with Louis -- and with Claudia when she's with Louis. No indication there is anything amiss with the way he's acting toward either of them. (Claudia's diaries, of course, are missing more pages during this time.)
If done this way, then you'd only see of Armand what mostly Armand wants Daniel (and via Daniel, the audience) to see and perceive of him, mainly through his and Louis' POVs.
And all we, the audience, see of Lestat during this time is via Louis' hallucinations of him for the first few episodes.
Then, when Louis and Armand start telling the tale of Claudia's fate, play it so that THAT is the first time real!Lestat shows up, at the trial. However, there'll be something very off in what Louis and Armand (mostly Armand) are telling Daniel about this moment.
And that is when Daniel pounces and calls them out on trying to BS him again. (Bonus points if it's a memory from during the Devil's Minion Era that helps to give Daniel a clue that they are BS'ing him.)
And it's after this that the show starts showing the flashbacks, not only to Armand's Children of Darkness days but specifically his interactions with Lestat during then.
It's at this point where it is also revealed that Lestat made it to Paris from New Orleans before Louis and Claudia did (which is what happened in the book) and that Armand has kept him locked up in a dungeon the whole time, manipulating him to testify at the trial and all that.
And, of course, then we get the real flashback of the trial and Armand's orchestration of "the thing" (including the major reveal of the head thing he did to her).
If you structure and set things up this way, not only do you keep the reveal that Armand was behind "the thing" the whole time up until it happens, but you reveal the context as to why Armand is the way he is when you do so at the same time.
I could be wrong, but I think the show might very well structure things this way in Season 2. Doing the story this way not only explains Armand's line at the end of Season 1 ("When you hear it you'll be ashamed of yourself, ashamed of what you say to him now!") but also what we know about the show revisiting things from Season 1 again.
Doing things this way has you do all the revisiting/truth/twist revealing during the last 3-4 episodes or so of the season, after what amounts to a misdirect during the first 3-4 episodes of it.
Because I don't think Armand, at the moment Season 2 starts, will have any desire to tell the full truth to Daniel about all of these things at the start. I think he is very much in the mode of protecting Louis (in his eyes) from the truth of what happened in any way he can still think of. So he'll obfuscate as much as he can after Daniel broke through the narrative Rolin Jones said Louis came up with and told himself via what Armand has told him.
I said before I think Armand knows very well what Louis would/will attempt to do -- i.e. what he does toward the end of the book Merrick -- if he remembers everything and how it actually happened, particularly wrt Claudia. Which is why these false narratives exist in Louis' head the first place. And now, with the confirmation after TCA24 that Louis wants to remember the truth, (and wants Daniel to help him do it), I think that is what it's going to take for Armand to finally stop obfuscating things (along with Daniel calling him out as well IMO).
After that is when I think Claudia's missing/cut out diary pages will finally be produced, and we'll get the things that were only glossed over before from them (mainly her feeling for Louis matching up with what they were revealed to be in Merrick). Along with this being when Armand's full Children of Darkness backstory is revealed, as well as the full reveal that he was behind "the thing" concurrent with that.
So yeah, I think a misdirect right up until the trial wrt the narrative, and then a full revisit of the narrative -- with Armand's cult background fully revealed then -- is how you can structure things without giving away Armand being behind "the thing."
That isn't to say that we wouldn't/won't see anything about Armand's Children of Darkness days before that but, if we do, I think it would be presented way more sympathetically at first -- leaving out things like what Armand and the cult did to Nicki, which is what made Lestat come in there and bust Armand's cult up in the first place. If it goes like this, then Nicki actually being there would be revealed later, during a revisiting of that moment during the second half of the season.
I think this would be the way to pull it all off and could be easily done so in the eight episodes we have for Season 2.

i also am so interested to see how they’ll do akasha’s manipulation and mind control of lestat. because it’s a big thing in qotd that he says he’s never ever killed anyone without drinking their blood - he’s never killed for the sake of killing, for warfare and carnage, and the release of doing it for akasha is both amazing and deeply horrifying for him. i wonder if, since we see he’s more open to killing as a means to an end in the show with poor head-exploding-priest, they’ll have akasha make him go even further than just mass murder to fuck with him. i’m just so intrigued by all of this

Excerpt:
Al Shafar Tower, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 30, 2022, 1:08 a.m.
“And so now? The only thing before me now is to go on, night after night. Detached. Unchangeable. Empty.”
Once again, Daniel listened to the recording of the final words spoken by Louis just a few hours before.
After all the drama, twists and turns, and painful remembrances and revelations, Daniel Molloy’s interview with the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac was now over. Finished.
Once he had spoken those final words, Louis had quietly risen from his chair in the sitting room and disappeared down a hallway, without so much as another word to Daniel.
The Vampire Armand, too, had only paused for a few moments after Louis had departed before taking his leave as well, also without a word to Daniel.
It was late, and Daniel was already way past when he should have already gone to bed. He was feeling drowsy and his Parkinson’s tremors were always worse at night when he was tired and still awake at such an hour.
However, the fact that the interview was now, officially over, didn’t feel like a relief. Or even some great unfinished accomplishment that he’d finally finished, and could cross off a bucket list.
No. What Daniel mostly felt about it all, at the moment, was a strange sort of . . . sorrow.
He didn’t feel celebratory about having uncovered all the hidden truths and obfuscation that had been thrown his way since the moment he walked through the door of the Dubai Penthouse. Usually when catching an interview subject trying to do such things, Daniel took an almost sadistic delight in upending the person in question, trapping them into at least facing the truth — a truth Daniel always made sure he knew as well, with facts on hand to back it up, before he did so — even if they remained loathed to admit that truth to him or themselves.
However, after all the truths that were finally revealed during Louis de Pointe du Lac’s interview, all Daniel felt about it now, was melancholy.
Daniel Molloy wouldn’t have believed it of himself just two weeks ago but after this interview, with Louis’ final words, Daniel felt himself almost wishing he’d just let Louis hold onto the illusions he’d built around himself about everything that had happened.
Especially regarding Claudia, his never-sister and forever-daughter. Claudia, who had broken Louis’ heart, (maybe even more than Lestat had), and who was now gone forever.
It was strange how, after everything, Daniel now felt a kind of kinship toward Louis. Even a real sense of trust now. He couldn’t say how or when it had come about, but it was there.
Louis had never lied to him about things in the beginning with any malicious intent behind it. Once his true memories began to reveal themselves, Louis didn’t try to hide from them anymore. He faced them, despite the utter pain it caused him to do so.
And Daniel couldn’t help but admire, and have his heart go out to Louis for that.
Which was very much not the same feelings Daniel held toward Louis’ erstwhile vampire companion Armand.
When the full truth about Armand’s role in Claudia’s fate had been revealed — specifically what acts he’d committed in the lead into her final fate — had been revealed, Daniel had listened to it all with the same cold and quiet dispassion Armand had displayed in his telling of it.
However, underneath that, Daniel had also continued to be confused by the five-centuries-old immortal, just as he had been after both he and Louis had revealed Armand’s true identity to him after the Rashid subterfuge.
Even before now, Daniel had wondered what Rashid’s true goal and endgame were regarding Louis — regarding all of this.
And now, after the interview was concluded, Daniel still didn’t know.
And not knowing, not having figured it out when he was now at the end of it all, continued to pick at his mind. None of it was helped by the fact that Armand had been playing a major role in all the lost memories Daniel had never known, until now, that he’d even forgotten. Events from after the failed first interview with Louis back in 1973.
Every time Daniel closed his eyes, it wasn’t only his forever-reoccurring dream he saw behind them now. The reoccurring dream — or more accurately, nightmare —  he’d been having off and on since 2005.
No. Now, along with that, it would also be some forgotten memory flooding back to him, returning to him, as well.
And he knew they were memories. They always felt more real, more tangible, than his dreams did.

hi im a new fan from the show and haven’t started the books yet. after ep 5 came out i saw a lot of people referencing a “swamp bbq” is this from the books and if so what is it + does it have anything to do with the iceberg thing about them smelling like barbecue 😭?
Hey!! I'm going to hold off on ranting about my VERY negative thoughts re: ep 5 for now and just answer your question ❤️
Under the cut for spoilers!
Actually, those two things are unrelated!
What people are referring to will very likely be occurring on the show soon (albeit under very different circumstances). Basically in the book, after 60 years of Lestat mentally abusing and controlling her and Louis and being driven pretty insane by being stuck in the body of a five year old, Claudia snaps and poisons then stabs Lestat. Louis is horrified, but wants to be free and to make his daughter happy, so he lets it happen. Afterwards, they dump Lestat's body in the swamp.
Lestat is almost dead, but not quite, and he regains his strength by feeding on wildlife until he's able to drag his rotting husk of a body back to their home. Louis and Claudia haven't left the house yet and Lestat confronts them there. He tries to approach them and Louis flings a lit lantern at him in a panic. A few other things happen, but ultimately Louis and Claudia run off as Lestat burns with Rue Royale.
Hence Lestat swamped and flambéd. Barbecued Swampstat.

I’m unfamiliar with all the later VC books but do people become younger when they are made vampire? Do you know if it could be that the young Daniel actor play the older version if he was made vampire??
No, vampires stay the age that they were when they received the dark gift. Luke Brandon Fields was cast in the role of young Daniel, but to my knowledge he's just playing Daniel as a young man in flashback sequences, not as some future reverse aged Daniel. I take it you don’t like Daniel being old?
Personally, I'm fine if Daniel stays old, I just hope that if he and Armand have a relationship Armand is aged up. Since they did so for Claudia in the show I think it's only logical they will do the same with Armand. There's a theory I've seen a few times that Daniel is going to get the young body that the character David got via the body thief in book 4. I don't completely hate the idea, but if that's the route the writers are taking I hope they rework the details because in the book an old white dude gets the body of an ethnic twink. I'm not going to even attempt to unpack all that here.
I wouldn't have mentioned this theory at all because it seems like the one people upset about Daniel being old seem to latch onto, but I don't think it's an impossible theory anymore. Seeing as the show writers decided to give Daniel a debilitating terminal illness, it makes me think Daniel is going to become a vampire at some point, whether he is made as is or in a new body like David was in TotBT remains to be seen.

so, like, the more I think about it — champions and gym leaders definitely get to choose their own battle music for Big Battles and tournaments and stuff, right? Well Hilda is a big fucking gamer nerd so she would totally pick something from a video game as her battle music, and......... the more I think about it, the more I am forced to accept that she would absolutely pick Who Brings Shadow from FFXIV. (That specific arrangement.) It slaps, it hits the Vibes(TM), and it would intimidate the shit out of newbie challengers. What more could you possibly ask for! (Bonus points if Zekrom gets to hang around for the added Boss Fight Energy. They don't battle with her, but the intimidation factor alone? Beautiful. Glorious. Psychological Warfare at its finest.)
(xae you're allowed to click the link but there are Some Spoilers for Shadowbringers bosses in the video, so. covers your eyes.)

Hi! I’m here to bother you again!
Lately I have stumbled on a curious thought…I realized that with Anne Rice’s vampires, her characters, aren’t we all apologists? Most of the vampires that we root for have at one point done something terrible. I think that is what she done on purpose, to write them flawed and then have them do good, to ask us if we could possibly see them in a different light. And I have different thoughts about all of them at different stages of my life. But I was curious, who was the character that you find most difficult to like/understand? Do you think of them differently now? Or is it still difficult to like/understand? Because the most amazing thing about AR’s VC for me is that I can’t seem to hate anyone fervently for a long time 😆 There is so much that I could, we know there is some sensitive topics discussed in there, but she did it. And I’m like, is there something wrong with the way my brain is wired?? 😭
Hey dear!
Never a bother :) And yes, the very power of Anne's vampires is that they're so human. They echo us, in an uncanny way, and this echo connects us to them. Nothing wrong with you there, they are fictional after all :))) And I find something new in them every time I read the books. I feel differently about them every time I read them, simply because I am different then. Life has shaped me, gave me new viewpoints. It's actually quite beautiful that the books hold this kind of power.
In regards to your question: Mhhh, too difficult to like. That is difficult. I would say Gabrielle, maybe. While I get why Lestat turns her, and why she is who and how she is in life... some of how she is with him later and how cold she is just doesn't sit right with me.
Don't get me wrong, I love our transmasc queen, who fearlessly threatens Akasha.
But you know, there are other moments, after Queen of the Damned... for example here in Prince Lestat:
There she was after all these years in her old khaki safari jacket and faded jeans, her hair in a braid over her shoulder, her pale face like a porcelain mask.
“Come on, stand up!” she said, those cold blue eyes ashing in the lights of the burning building at the mouth of the tunnel.
And in that moment as love and resentment clashed with humbling fury, I was back at home hundreds of years ago, walking with her in those cold barren elds, with her haranguing me in that impatient voice. “Get up. Move. Come on.”
“What are you going to do if I don’t?” I snarled. “Slap me?”
And that’s what she did. She slapped me. “Get up quickly,” she said. “Take me to that gloried shelter you’ve made for yourself in the old castle. We must talk. Tomorrow night, I’ll take you to Sevraine.”
And I hated that scene. Lestat thinks of her so often, wonders so often where she is, and she shows up, and because he doesn't immediately jump the way she wants to... she does indeed slap him. That was incredibly disappointing for me, though probably in character. But being a mother now myself... it made me resent her. And I think it is very telling that there is no response there, that the chapter ends there. Lestat needs so much love... and that simple fact is a source for a lot of his problems, unfortunately. And her behavior, right there, back then and "now", is part of the reason. And he just cannot outrun it.
So yeah. Probably Gabrielle, despite the fact that I love her.

IWTV S2 SPOILERS
.
.
.
.
i keep seeing posts where people are hoping they change claudias fate from the book in the tv adaptation and trust me,, i get it. i love her. shes a great character and i think bailey bass did a great job with endearing us to claudia and from what ive seen in the s2 clips and trailers, im really liking delaineys claudia.
BUT! i think the death of claudia is one of the most important moments in the entire story and i really really hope we get to see it. her demise is pivotal to almost every single character (ESPECIALLY LOUIS) and i feel like there is no story without it. i think it would be a disservice to the story to change it for the sole purpose of appeasing fans.
im hoping that when the showrunners said they wouldnt shy away from dark moments they meant it because the first vc book is, at its core, a gothic tragedy born from the authors grief.
