My Way or the Highway
Title: My Way or the Highway
Tumblr media
Summary: It started off as an ordinary, boring day until it took a turn for the worse. Being manhandled in almost every way possible definitely wasn’t on the agenda for the day.
Warnings: the Winter Soldier (yes, I feel like he is very much indeed a warning); angst; stalking; being manhandled; violence; mentions of injuries; choking; mentions of being hanged
Word Count: 1,055
You lived a pretty mundane life and you were perfectly fine with that. You got up every day, started your coffee - that was the first thing you did - then you started your morning routine. Once you were ready, you gave your cat, Alpine, a couple of good pets before grabbing your coffee and leaving for the day. If you knew what the day had in store for you, you probably would’ve stayed home. You would’ve called in sick to work, cuddled with your Turkish Vankedisi white cat and put on a comfort show. But it’s hard to tell what the day will hold, unless you’re some kind of sorcerer supreme.
So, you grabbed your purse, grabbed your keys and walked out of your small, one bedroom apartment. You lock the door behind you and head to work. You worked at the Smithsonian Museum as a research lab tech and you were dreading this day all week. It was inventory day. You mentally groan at the thought. You hated inventory day, absolutely hated it because it meant staying ridiculously late. As you were about to enter the subway, you had to pause in your tracks, a feeling coming over you as you felt someone was following. Or at the very least, watching you intensely. You took a quick look around but nothing out of the ordinary stood out to you, not that you would know what to look for anyway. So, you shrug the feeling off and continue to make your way down into the subway.
It wasn’t long until the train was coming to a screeching stop, making you wince at the sound. As you were waiting for the doors of the subway train to open, you began to feel as if someone was watching you again. You take a quick look around as goosebumps rise up on your skin but again, nothing strikes you as abnormal. And just like that, the intense feeling was gone. Letting out a huff of air, you try to ignore the feeling and get off at your stop.
When you arrive at work, you greet the front security guard with a kind smile and a friendly hello. He kindly returns the gesture before you enter the building. Then, at that very instant, you feel it again. The eyes from earlier watching you. You’re not sure how you know it’s the same person - or being for all you know - you just do. It’s the same intense gaze and it sends a shiver up your spine. Looking over your shoulder, you see nothing but the bustling of the busy morning sidewalk and street. Maybe you’re going crazy? You guess that could be possible. No, absolutely not. You shrug your shoulders and try to shake the feeling away before heading to the lab part of the museum. You’ve got to get a hold of yourself. When you get to the lab, you set your stuff down and out of the way and grab one of the white lab coats. You shove your arms through proper holes meant for your arms of the coat and begin your work day.
The rest of the day went by rather blandly as you slowly crossed things off of your checklist. The feeling of someone watching you never happened again, so you don’t think anything of it as the day drags on. When four-thirty hits, one by one your coworkers trickled out of the museum until you were the only one left. That’s when it all happened. First, you heard the door slowly creek open, making you look up from your current task. You wait for a brief moment before calling out to see if anyone is there.
“Hello?” Your voice shakes ever so slightly as you call out.
But there was nothing. Of course it was nothing, you imagined it. Yeah, that’s it. You shake your head to get rid of the thought and continue on with your work as if nothing happened. Right?
The next thing you know, you’re being thrown down the aisle that you’re in and you lose every ounce of air in your lungs. You groan at the harsh impact as you try to sit up. What is happening right now? You were so dizzy from being tossed like a ragdoll that you couldn’t fully comprehend what was happening at the moment. By the time that you could get your bearings, you were being lifted up into the air. A thick, strong hand had grabbed you by your throat. And wait, was that metal? No, it couldn’t be, it was merely the dim lighting and the loss of oxygen was messing with your head. You were gasping for air at this point and clawing at your attacker’s hand and wrist. But honestly, it was pointless. He was completely unfazed by the action, if anything it made him tighten his grip. You were sure you were going to pass out soon with the amount of pressure that was building inside your head. Before that could happen though, you were being tossed through the air again. You had collided against one of the shelves with a loud thud, smacking your head against as you did. You swore you heard one of your ribs crack with the collision. That was going to hurt later.
Before you knew it, he was towering over you. Now that you could see your attacker’s face, a gasp left you unwillingly. Seeing his covered face sent shivers throughout your entire body. Your eyes widened in fear as you were once again being lifted into the air. This time though, he was only holding you, no tight grip on your fragile throat. But you knew that could change within a matter of seconds. A thick, heavy silence fills the air between you two as you stare into each other's eyes. Then his deep, emotionless voice penetrates the air, causing the hair on your arms to rise.
“Here’s the deal,” He begins, a Russian accent lacing his voice. “You will show me what I’m looking for, or they’ll find your body swinging from the bridge over the highway.”
There was no way out of this, you were trapped. It was going to be his way or quite literally, the highway. So, all you could do was comply and slightly nod your head.

Turkish Van cat: Height, Weight, Poresnalty, Care Special Info Know
The Turkish Van cat is a naturally occurring breed of domestic cat that originated in the Lake Van area of modern Turkey, part of the Armenian Highlands. Vane is classified as semi-long hair, but his length is two, that’s for sure. by season. Hair is thick and long in winter. In summer, the hair is shed to leave a short light coat. Both coats are described as soft, cashmere-like, down to the core. There is no apparent undercoat on the vane, only one coat.
The breed is rare and distinguished by a vane pattern, where the color is limited to the head and tail, and the rest of the cat is white; This is due to the expression of the piebald white spotting gene, a type of partial leucism. The breed is generally claimed to have descended from a landrace of white Van cats, mostly found near Lake Van. Western selection for matching eyes in the Vane cat is a source of amusement for the people of the Lake Vane region.
The term “Turkish Vankedisi” is used by some as a name for white specimens of the formal Turkish Van breed, although they are not considered to show quality and are therefore actively bred against. They are full of deafness, a common defect in many white animals.
ORIGIN: Middle East
HEIGHT 10–14 inches
WEIGHT 10–20 pounds
LIFE SPAN 12–17 years
Breed Characteristics
There’s no doubt about it – Turkish vans are stunning. Their coat color pattern, the vane pattern (named after them) is when the color is only found on their head and tail, and the rest of their body is white.
Occasionally, these cats will have a patch of color between the shoulder blades. This is known as the “Mark of Allah” or “God’s Thumbprint” and represents good luck and the cat has been blessed. In addition to their mostly white color, typical colors for their patches include red, brown, blue, cream, black, and tortoise.
These cats may have blue or amber eyes. Turkish Vans can also be odd-eyed, which is when they have one eye of each color
Turkish Vans are medium to large-sized cats, weighing 10-20 pounds. Females, on average, weigh less than males, but each cat is unique in its body size.
One of the reasons the Turkish Van weighs so much is because it is so muscular. With powerful hind legs, these cats can jump to great heights. These cats are not only surprisingly heavy but also very tall. From their head to the tip of their tail, some cats of this breed measure up to three feet.

History
The Turkish Van cat is a rare breed that dates back to ancient times. The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) explains that the name derives from the use of the word “van” in its countries of origin (Iraq, Iran, and parts of the Soviet Union and Turkey). “It is a common term in the region that has been given to a number of towns, villages, and even a lake—Lake Wan,” says the CFA, “so it is not surprising that the region’s distinctively patterned cat was named after it.” ‘Want’ by the inhabitants.” The van is not to be confused with the Turkish Angora, which is an entirely different breed.
Making its home in the mountainous region of Central and Southwest Asia, historical records show that the robust and hardy Turkish Van has existed for nearly five thousand years, with its isolation contributing to its long lifespan, TICA points out. It is a prized breed in its homeland, especially those vans that have small, colorful markings on their necks, called “Allah’s thumbprints”.
It wasn’t until the 1950s that the first Turkish Van was brought to Europe by two photographers who were gifted a male and female cat, and it wasn’t until the late 70s that the breed entered the United States. The van began to gain club recognition in the ’80s and ’90s, charming its way into the hearts of cat lovers around the world.
Because she is a rare breed, finding a Turkish Van cat can be difficult, but not impossible. If you are lucky enough to share a home with such a beloved and precious furry friend, you will be rewarded with a playful, energetic, and loyal companion.
