Hi! I don’t know how much you actually read this but tumblr is more of a safer space for me than Instagram. I JUST saw htdio and I’m autistic myself. I found myself sobbing through almost the whole musical. I have never seen anything that represented me so well. I have never seen myself In Media like… ever. I’m an autistic woman who only wears skirts and quotes lord of the rings like there’s no tomorrow. I cannot express just how much this show meant to me. I cannot express in words or I just don’t have them. Thank you beyond belief. I’ve always been scared to be myself and while I still will be cause things don’t fix themselves like that but seeing this show made me know I’m not alone anymore and I probably never was.
Anyways sorry for the rambling I can’t be concise for anything!
Thank you more than words.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I will never ever get sick of reading stories like these from people like you. And I'm sorry it took so long to reply, I know you sent it a while ago, and I'm not the greatest at Tumblr yet.
As a consolation prize, though...here's a little Lord of the Rings treat for you.
Back in the fall of 2010, I got to perform in the choir of a live-to-projection concert of The Two Towers at Radio City Music Hall. The movie played on a giant screen, and Howard Shore's score was played and sung live!
Here's a CBS interview with our conductor, the delightful Ludwig Wicki--and you can catch a glimpse of me around 2:46 (on the far left side of the lower riser).
youtube
And here's some B-roll footage from that shoot, where you can really hear the music more.
youtube
Also, in my ongoing mission to encourage support for the arts, especially in NYC: I have to give a shout-out to the Dessoff Choirs, the organization that provided me with this incredibly cool experience--celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! Choral singing has long been a passion of mine, and after I graduated college and no longer had built-in access to the campus choirs, I was really lucky to be able to collaborate with Dessoff on this project, as well as the 2012 American premiere of an opera called La Nave by Italo Montemezzi.
You can check out their web site for more info, including upcoming concerts and ways to audition if that's something you're interested in. :)

Is JK still in the States?
I'm seeing some tweets talking about him being on his way back to Seoul, and due to land at ICN at 5pm. There's nothing on the K-Media YouTube channels that I follow... Are they being sneaky again?
With his upcoming performance in NYC on the 23rd, I've been wondering if he would fly back home, and then return to the States the week of the concert? It's hard to guess.
If anyone knows for sure, please let me know... I missed his departure from ICN because it was not announced very far in advance.
The other thought that just popped up for me is that we may see Jiminie fying over to the States, to see Kook's performance. It wouldn't be a surprise after he came over to support Kookie, for the GMA performance. Hmmmmm. It might get interesting again.....
Let's see what comes in the next two weeks... Fingers crossed that it includes some crumbs from Jungkook and Jimin! 💜🐰🐥💜

Rich Amiri Announces Tour as "One Call" Continues to Climb Charts
Tumblr media
With his effortless flexes and velvety, soulful vocals, Rich Amiri is one of the most exciting rising artists in music today. The Internet Money/10K Projects signee has a bonafide hit on his hands, with the Billboard Hot 100-charting "One Call." Capitalizing on his massive hit, which held at #60 on the Hot 100 this week, the 20-year-old artist announces the "Fabulous Tour," embarking this April.
Criss-crossing North America for 18 dates, the upcoming "Fabulous Tour" is Rich Amiri's first-ever national headlining tour. Featuring support from his fellow SoundCloud wunderkind Jaydes, the tour kicks off in Toronto, CA on April 18, passing through NYC (May 3), Atlanta (May 8), and more before ending in Los Angeles on May 23. Amiri warmed up for the tour in February with a homecoming show in his native Boston and a performance opening for his mentor Lil Tecca in New York City. Rich will join Lil Tecca on dates on four West Coast dates later this month (see below). Tickets for Rich Amiri's shows can be purchased at RichAmiri.com, while tickets for his performances opening for Lil Tecca HERE
A highlight from his late-2023 album GHETTO FABULOUS, Rich Amiri's "One Call" has become one of the biggest rap hits of 2024 so far. It made its Billboard Hot 100 debut during the week of February 10th, entering the chart at #79, and has since spent 5 weeks on the chart with a #60 peak. Produced by Rio Leyva (of Internet Money) and Zuko, the song has racked up over 100 million streams on Spotify, including over 6 million streams in the last week to reach #19 on the service's Top Songs - USA chart, plus 7.4 million views on its music video. "One Call" gained viral traction on TikTok, inspiring nearly 1 million combined video creations and peaking at #2 on Billboard's TikTok Top 50 chart. Rich Amiri recently spoke about "One Call" and his rapid rise in an interview with HYPEBEAST.
Spanning 14 tracks, GHETTO FABULOUS features some of Internet Money's most luxurious production to date–Rio Leyva takes the helm behind boards, with credits on 12 of the project's 14 tracks, welcoming contributions from IM fellows like founder Taz Taylor, Census, and ThankYouWill, plus unaffiliated associates like Zuko and maxvon. Shouldering the load with no features necessary, Amiri takes advantage of the room-enveloping production, his bellowing bass cutting through the cavernous atmosphere with commanding authority and unpredictable melodics. Beyond "One Call," the album is home to hit singles like "Ain't Nothing" (12.6 million Spotify streams), "Codeine Crazy" (5.7 million Spotify streams) and "Outta There" (5.8 million Spotify streams). GHETTO FABULOUS is available everywhere via Internet Money Records/10K Projects.
Stay tuned for more music and videos from Rich Amiri coming soon, and check him out live on March 17th at Rolling Loud California.

hello hello i was feeling a bit inspired last night and it's wednesday so here's a lil something from the rockstar au
Some part of Carlos knew he shouldn't be doing this, but he was staring down the blinking cursor and empty search bar, and he knew he was going to do it anyway. Boundaries be damned, he figured anything he would learn now was public information anyway.
Fingers swiftly moving over his keyboard, Carlos input the few characters he knew he wanted to see the results of.
TK Strand.
His finger hovered in place above the enter key. He didn't even care for the guy, in fact, he couldn't stand him. Some part of him, however, felt the need to know just a little more. There was some puzzle piece he was missing. After all, it would take a lot for someone with as truly unbearable of a personality as TK Strand to lead a band that seemingly sold out every venue.
So he hit the key before he could talk himself out of it.
The results flooded in, blue titles lining his screen. He mindlessly scrolled through the first few.
A link to his instagram profile. His twitter. The wikipedia page for his band. Links to music videos.
Rescue Crew makes an Incredible Comeback with their New Album ‘In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency’
Up and Coming Rockstar Heartthrob TK Strand Talks Writing, Touring, and Relationships
New Face of Modern Metal? An Interview with Rescue Crew's Frontman TK Strand
Rescue Crew Sells Out North American Tour in Minutes
Talkin’ Rock with TK Strand of Rescue Crew
They were all the same thing, music pages talking about monumental success, their hiatus, interviews with the band, and the map for their tour.
Then there were other titles that garnered his interest, but not enough to click on them.
PRIDE EXCLUSIVE: Rescue Crew's TK Strand Opens Up about Being Openly Gay in the Metal Scene
Trouble in Paradise? Rescue Crew’s Bassist Departs from the Band–Is His Relationship with the Singer Over?
Rescue Crew Preparing for a New Release with only TK Strand left of the Original Band.
TK Strand: “It’s been a long two years, but I’m back and better than ever”
The second page of his search yielded much of the same results–almost every link talking about the same event, all dated within a day or two from each other. They were a lot more chilling as Carlos’ eyes ran over the text on his screen.
Gone was the talk of music and concerts, upcoming releases or band drama.
BREAKING NEWS: Rescue Crew’s TK Strand Hospitalised Following Overdose. Condition Unknown
A Brush with Death; TK Strand's Overdose–All You Need to Know
BREAKING Rescue Crew's World Tour Cancelled due to Singer's Hospitalisation
Has Drug Culture in Music Gone Too Far? TK Strand found Overdosed in NYC Apartment
It wasn’t what Carlos had expected to see in his search. The word “overdose” repeated over and over, articles all mentioning it in some shape or form. Overwhelmed by the plethora of information at his fingertips, he clicked on a random one, unable to ignore what he had stumbled into, needing to know more.
He didn’t care for TK, in fact, he loathed the man. But this seemed really serious and there was a small part of his brain that was begging him to read on, to make sure that the arrogant and grandiose man he had met was okay.
The first picture he was met with was a black and white photoshoot of TK. He looked strikingly younger in it, with chin-length choppy black hair and sans his neck tattoo–a thick black spiked choker in its place.  His eyes however carried the same piercing look, the lack of colour in the image and ring of messy eyeliner highlighting the lightness of them–green, his brain provided.

Could I request a piece where TWICE discover that one time when Mina was in America, she made a professional porn?
just a video?
[ TWICE's Mina ]
warnings: mentions of porn and alcohol, alcohol consumption
minors don’t interact
word count: 1139
drunk and left alone to our own devices for a day can bring many of us to do quite crazy things, but probably not shooting a professional porn video...
Mina thought she was done for, she'd even forgotten all about the damned video, thinking that weeks had passed without the members finding out and they probably ever find it anyways, but boy was she wrong.
Back to December 2021 (New York City)
It all started when all 9 of them had traveled to the US for their concert, but before they had to get down to work and actually perform, they were given a week to explore their surroundings more. Most of the members hung out in pairs or trios and occasionally as 9. On the last day of that week, they all decided to venture out alone, and so everyone had left the hotel room, but Mina.
After exploring the hotel room well for about 30 minutes, Mina finds a cupboard filled will bottles of red wine. perfect, just what I needed to distract myself, Mina grabs a bottle for herself and downs it within an hour. She spends another hour in the hotel room before her boredom gets the better of her, and so she heads out to do something, literally anything.
While walking in the streets of NYC, wearing what she calls the “perfect idol disguise”, she spots a man selling newspapers and decides to buy one for herself, at least it’ll provide her some sort of entertainment. While walking, she looked over the contents of the newspaper. When a little advert at the bottom left corner of the page catches her attention, an advert looking for a model to shoot a professional video, just what she needed to amuse herself.
Yep, I’m crazy, Mina thought as she faced the studio that she was directed to after she had called the number listed on the advert, nonetheless, Mina ignored the voice in her head screaming at her to go back to the hotel room. Mina knocked on the door and within seconds it was open and Mina found herself face to face with a guy, who she had to admit, was breathtakingly attractive.
Hey, you’re the lady who called earlier right? Oh- yeah that was me Mina replied after snapping out of her trance, she was already looking forward to shooting this “video.” The guy motioned for Mina to follow him, she walked in and looked around, taking in her surroundings. The studio was dimly lit and full of props and other filming equipment.
I’m *insert random guy’s name because I’m unimaginative* and I’ll be shooting the video with you, my boss will be here in a minute to actually shoot the video itself, for now, why don’t you introduce yourself? Um... can you keep a secret? A big one? asked Mina nervously. Yeah? Let me guess, you’re quite known or for some other reason you have to go around wearing that get up, he asked. Mina removed her mask and watched as the guy quickly recognized her
Myoui Mina?! Well, this is... surprising, I assume you’re here in the US for the upcoming concert you guys are holding. Yeah and surprisingly I’ve found myself with nothing to do so I decided to sign up for this little job, at least it’s something within my expertise, I’ll say. The door opened and another man, presumably older, walked in.
She’s here boss, and she’s a celebrity too, so this one’s gonna stay anonymous, very well that’s fine with me, he turns to Mina, hello, I’m the one in charge and running this place, you ready to start shooting? Oh yes of course- go get prepared on the couch. He points at a couch in the middle of the studio with dim red lights shining down on it.
That was one long night for Mina
Spring, South Korea, Twice dorm
“She won’t get kicked out... right unnie??” asked Chaeyoung, “I don’t know, I hope not, if it were to be up to me I wouldn’t kick her because of this, however, the final decision is in the companies hands...” replied Jihyo, the members were all sat around a table waiting for Mina. Last night Nayeon was skimming a website for ways to relieve herself, now this was fine, every member at one point had felt the same too, she had found a video that piqued her interest and clicked on it to watch, only to realize the woman in the video was none the less her member, Mina.
The company was appalled to find out that one of their star artists had starred in a porn video unknowingly without their permission. There were talks of kicking the idol out of the group, even out of the company as a whole! However, the other twice members put their foot down on that idea and decided that they would find a different solution, just then Mina walked in.
“Hey guys, I hope I’m not late, what did you guys need to discuss?”, Mina looked happy, ecstatic even, it hurt the members to know that they would have to tell her of the company’s thoughts when she was in such a happy mood. “Well, last night one of us stumbled across a certain video on the internet, and it just so happened to star you Mina” began Jihyo “what do you mean unnie?” said Mina, looking perplexed before she realized what video her leader was talking about, her face flushed a bright red and the members knew that she realized what they were talking about. “I think you may have realized what I mean, our company obviously isn’t happy about this, it’s just not appropriate for one of the biggest faces in this industry to star in a porn video, especially without any permission. Therefore our company is wanting to kick you out of the group...” said Jihyo, voice trailing off at the end at the sight of Mina’s tears. Chaeyoung got up and hugged Mina, “Don’t cry unnie, we won’t let them kick you out, never! Twice is nine, always has and always will be, right you guys?” she turned around to the other members who voiced their agreement. The other members engulfed Mina in a hug until she calmed down, “I’m so sorry guys, I’ve let you down so badly, I’ll make sure I get rid of that video no matter what!” declared Mina, “we’ll help you too! Oh and I’m sorry about this whole mess, I was the one who found the video by the way...” said Nayeon sheepishly, a light blush spreading across her face. “It’s okay, it doesn’t matter it was for the best anyway so don’t beat yourselves up over this, both of you!” Said Momo, pointing her fingers at Nayeon and Mina as if threatening them, jokingly of course, while the other members laughed at her antics, brightening the atmosphere, of course, it was gonna be alright, they’re twice after all!
a/n:  this has been in my drafts forever, forgive me if the beginning sucks, I only re wrote the ending so yea, anyways I hope u enjoy anon (requested)

Quinn Lemley
Through Rita Hayworth - The Heat is On, Singer/Performer Transforms Into the Legendary Star
by Brad Balfour
On Nov 20, 2023, the singer/style queen Quinn Lemley will present her last NYC performance of The Heat Is On! – Rita Hayworth at Don’t Tell Mama (343 W 46th St.), the long-established cabaret center in midtown Manhattan, before going on the road. Hayworth, known as “The Love Goddess,” is iconic for her indelible performance in Gilda, the film noir classic – performing the sexiest striptease on celluloid, “Put The Blame On Mame.” The hottest sex symbol of the 1940s, Hayworth’s pin-up on the Atomic Bomb gave her the international title of “The Atomic Star.” Courted by the world’s most powerful men – Orson Welles, Prince Aly Khan, and Howard Hughes among others – Hayworth was a legend until she had early onset Alzheimer’s Disease which led to her death.
Fire-haired performer Lemley brings the star to life in her sold-out shows. Having headlined various performing arts centers and casinos across North America, she received The Bistro Award and two MAC award nominations. Lemley’s jazz quintet performs internationally and she’s the iconic face of the Half Note in Athens, Greece. The New York Times defines her performances as "Dazzling... with one show-stopping number after another!"
Besides this show, Lemley has directed and co-produced Rebel Rebel, The Many Lives of David Bowie, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Wall and The Ultimate Queen Celebration. She’s had a presence on national TV through appearances on Good Morning America, Oprah and as a finalist on Shark Tank. Lemley also has five CDs available, and her music is on Spotify and Apple Music. She’s hosting the locally produced TV show, Secrets of the Stage on MNN.org with a monthly virtual concert on Zoom -- “Up Close & Personal.” A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, she's a Distinguished Toastmaster at Toastmasters International and a member of National Speakers Association as well as SAG, AFTRA, AEA, DTM, NSA NY, APAP, and IEBA.
This critically acclaimed concert about Hayworth's life — the star who built Columbia Pictures — is a humorous, heartfelt and heartbreaking look at The Golden Age of Hollywood, the MeToo movement and the price of fame — especially in light of Hayworth's tumultuous relationship with the head of Columbia, the infamous Harry Cohn. The show reflects the price of fame, celebrating a remarkable life with humor, wit and impeccable storytelling. It’s all woven together with tunes from The Great American Songbook and the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Written and directed by Carter Inskeep (“Always Patsy Cline”), Lemley’s performance is either backed by a quartet or by an 11-piece big band. The show includes hits from such legendary composers and lyricists as Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen and Jerome Kern. It includes “Bewitched,” “Zip,” and “The Lady is A Tramp” from such iconic films as “Gilda,” “Pal Joey,” “Cover Girl” and more.
The following Q&A was conducted online in advance of the upcoming show.
When did you know you wanted to be a performer?
I came out of the womb entertaining. I’ve always known that I wanted to perform. Singing and acting have always been my passion. Even as a young girl from Indiana I was always producing puppet shows, carnivals and musicals for our neighborhood. Luckily, my parents were incredibly supportive and made sure I took lessons and classes. I’m so grateful today!
Talk about the first time you performed. Can you describe the moment?
My first show was when I was in fifth grade. I played a Far-Out Foxy Lady from A Foreign Land in Whitecloud and the Seven Dwarfs. I guess I was bound to be a glamour gal from the get-go!
Have you focused on cabaret because of the intimacy of the experience?
I love cabaret. I love its intimacy. It’s taught me to connect to each and every person in the room. It provides an opportunity to try things out and to take a chance, to take risks.
Although it’s been a big part of my life, I haven’t focused on cabaret. My late husband -– producer, manager and best friend, Paul Horton -- expanded my shows by putting them with 9- to 12-piece big bands. That opened up the scope of our shows. For the past 15 years, I’ve been headlining casinos and performing arts centers like The Kravis Center, Naples Philharmonic, Thousand Oaks Civic Center and BB Kings in NYC. After Covid, Paul suggested I go back to the club where I started my career -- Don’t Tell Mama in NYC -- before going back on the road in theaters. We won the Bistro Award, a MAC Nomination, rave reviews and have enjoyed a 17-month residency. I’m grateful Paul booked these dates leading up to going back to theaters starting in North Carolina at the Tryon Center Nov. 4, The Pheasantry in London on Feb 16 & 17th, and a one-week run at The Cape May Playhouse in July. We have our last NYC date on Monday, Nov. 20 at Don’t Tell Mama. It’s given me a chance to heal and put myself into the performance on another level.
How do you choose the songs you do?
First, it’s the lyrics. What am I trying to say? How do I want to say it? Where does it fit into the show? Secondly, it’s about melody and structure. How does the melody make me and the audience feel? How do I want it arranged to tell the story? Finally, does it fit me as an artist? I love all kinds of music. But like clothing, not everything fits with my voice and personality or belongs in the arc of the story that I’m telling. I have to try the songs out and see how they feel and sound in my voice.
How did you develop this show?
Rita Hayworth – The Heat Is On! has had three stages of development. The first stage was when I got out of NYU. I was starring in a show off Broadway. A reviewer saw me and said, “You look like Rita Hayworth. You should meet Carter Inskeep and do the story of her life.” That was pre-internet, so we read every biography, watched her films on tape and went to the library. We also read every article we could find on microfiche. The question we kept asking was, “Who is Rita Hayworth – the public persona?  But more importantly, who is Margarita Cansino? The girl who has hopes and dreams and just wants to be loved?” Just like me, like all of us. We had tremendous success, got rave reviews, were on Oprah, Geraldo, Good Morning America. I was in my mid 20s then. In my 30s, I met Paul Horton. He changed my life. He had us rewrite the show, using the songs from the Great American Songbook during the Golden Age of Hollywood to help tell the story instead of limiting it to songs from Rita’s films. He had it orchestrated for both a big band and a quartet. Now we can play intimate theaters as well as large ones like The Kravis Center, Naples Philharmonic and BB King’s. We toured throughout North America. During Covid, Carter rewrote the book to make the story about resilience, accepting our choices with topics like the “Me Too” movement, women’s empowerment and the price of fame. He had us return to Don't Tell Mama’s in NYC where we started the show after COVID, before going back on tour in theaters. Our residency was so successful that we got extended from four to 17 months, had rave reviews, won the Bistro Award and got a MAC Nomination.
Besides this one performance left in NYC on Monday, Nov. 20, I’m going to London in February at The Pheasantry. I am so grateful that Paul put this in motion. It's been a lifesaver since he unexpectedly passed in March. It was his vision to do this residency. The story is so rich, deep, funny and moving. I’ve been able to tap into Rita’s story on a deeper level than I ever could have when I was younger. I’ve been able to put myself into the role in a way I never dreamed was possible. And the audiences are responding.

Do you try to make your shows thematic, or sometimes just a simple revue?
All of my shows are thematic. The Heat is On – Rita Hayworth is about Rita and The Golden Age of Hollywood. Burlesque to Broadway is about the women who went from Burlesque to Broadway and Beyond. As a director and producer, I've done these shows: The Ultimate Queen Celebration, Rebel Rebel: The Many Lives of David Bowie and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Wall. My TV Talk show on MNN, Secrets of the Stage is where I pull back the curtains and explore the creative process. My speaking keynote is about resilience through the lens of my relationship with my shows Rita and Burlesque to Broadway.
You did have a burlesque moment. Did it feel liberating, powerful or what?
I did a show called Burlesque To Broadway. It was so liberating. I was onstage with four beautiful and talented women who celebrated their talent, beauty and humor. It was powerful to claim and own my femininity and fun to tease. As the great poet Mel Brooks said, “When You Got It, Flaunt It.” Every woman should step into her power and “Be”!
Besides the songs you're already playing, what are your benchmark tunes?
My heroine is Julia Child. I got to have lunch with her at her house in Cambridge with her husband Paul. Her spirit was incredible. She was a woman who took massive action and didn’t let anyone or anything stop her. Other icons of mine are Cher, Ann-Margret, Lady GaGa and Diana Ross. I’m putting a list of songs from '70s and '80s rock, so my benchmark songs are "The Show Must Go On," "You Take My Breath Away" and "Rock and Roll Suicide." I perform Queen and Bowie plus others to celebrate my late husband, Paul’s genius and talent. Plus, “Don’t Fret World” from his Rock Opera which was his anthem.
Who would you like to perform with or what show would like to be in?
My dream is to work with the French artist, arranger and producer Benjamin Biolay. And, of course, I’d love to work with David Foster.
What goals do you have for this show and for yourself?
We are going back on the road in theaters. I’m on a plane now headed to Tryon Arts Center in North Carolina. Going to London. I’m hoping to find producers and promoters who will help us tour and produce a run on the West End of London. I’d like to do a national tour. We’d also like to do a NetFlix special filming of the show for broadcast. Paul was my agent as well as producer, so I need to find an agent that can help me internationally. I am also looking to get my TV show, Secrets of the Stage, picked up by a major network with sponsorship. As a director and producer, I’m working on our tour of The Ultimate Queen Celebration with Yvan Pedneault and MiG Ayessa, both endorsed by Queen. It’s the best Queen tribute band on the market. We will be at The Egg in Albany, May 11th, and are routing around that. The audiences are on their feet. It's a Queen party. Starting next month, I’m working on a new show with ’70s and ‘80s rock that’s a tribute to Paul and our incredible 20-year journey together through music. I’m grateful to have so many talented colleagues with me on my journey.

Several points of discussion about the new LC Ryman venue:
-It seems that Ryman/Opry has been trying to grow the country music event audience beyond Nashville, particularly focusing on international fans and tourists, for at least 6/7 years. There was a NYC Times Square Opry venue that opened in Dec 2017 but only lasted 9 months due to low revenue. When they transferred this idea to the Ole Red concept, they chose locations that were heavy on international tourism and had a live music or events presence already (Orlando, Las Vegas). Gatlinburg is an exploding tourist destination but live event venues, besides Dollywood, aren’t as common yet. There was also the Ryman deal in Austin that fell through in 2020 because of the drop in tourism at the beginning of the pandemic. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them focus on Austin again next, especially since CMT and ACM both moved to Texas this year too.
-Going with this idea, Colin Reed (he’s still executive chairman and spokesman) in the media releases for the new venue, emphasized Luke C’s international appeal (he has a world tour scheduled this year) and the new venue bringing the international focus to downtown Nashville. We already know Blake isn’t willing to tour outside of N America. It seems clear they were seeking someone that would work the international market. Did Blake announcing he was pulling back/semi-retiring also factor into this decision? They were probably looking for someone willing to be more active in the Nashville music scene, tour internationally, and more willing to do promotion.
-One question is will Ryman continue to grow the Ole Red brand or will they instead grow this new brand outside of Nashville? It was smart to not tie Ole Red directly with Blake and include his name. That way it can last beyond his involvement if necessary. The new venue though seems a little more personally focused on Luke C. Colin Reed in TOC article said the idea was hatched at an Opry duck hunt 6 years ago. They haven’t announced a name yet. Wonder if it will be a direct tie in to Luke?
-Final observation is that Ole Red claims their venue is 26,000 sq ft total capacity. New venue claims 69,000 sq ft total capacity including roof addition. So it is almost double the size. It also includes sports betting and seems to be banking on full concert events. Ole Red is more scaled for bar, intimate concerts and private events rather than true concerts or events. Maybe they saw the potential for bigger events because of the Barmaggedon filming, the newish partnership with NBCUniversal, the upcoming Vegas presence, etc and decided to pursue something on that scale in Nashville in order to take advantage of future events. They already had the Wildhorse venue. It just amounted to renovating it and getting Luke C on board. Thoughts?

APAP 2014 — VoicePlay live performances
When the VoicePlay guys made their annual trip to NYC for the 2014 Association of Performing Arts Professionals conference, they also did an off-site show at Stage 48 (now HK Hall). It was part regular concert and part shakedown cruise. Emoni Wilkins was about to join them for the upcoming Sing-Off tour, so they wanted to try out some possible songs for their new setlist. It was also a bit of a reunion. The ladies of Element welcomed the boys to their hometown by opening for them.
.
[WARNING: This video contains flashing lights starting at 2:17.]
youtube
This song got a fantastic reception when they performed it on The Sing-Off, so it's no surprise that they wanted to get it tour-ready. Tweaking the arrangement to make it less of a solo piece was a great decision.
Details:
title: Play That Funky Music
original performers: Wild Cherry
written by: Rob Parissi
arranged by: VoicePlay
My favorite bits:
turning the lead vocal into a duet / duel between Eli and Emoni that is super fun
simplifying the choreography for a smaller stage
Layne's tasty beat under the rap section
"Uh-uh, baby."
the riff tutorial bit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
VoicePlay originally performed this song on the second episode of The Sing-Off with Honey Larochelle.
They later recorded this arrangement with Emoni for the deluxe edition of their "Collide" album of collaborations with other competitors from The Sing-Off season 4.
.
youtube
This clip cuts off before the big finish, but what he did get is darn entertaining. Heck, this song is always a blast when VoicePlay performs it, because their interactions are always a little different.
Details:
title: Elvira
original performers: The Oak Ridge Boys
written by: Dallas Frazier
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
My favorite bits:
both Eli and Tony prodding Earl to take the lead, and Earl being a little extra forceful with Geoff about it
Tony working the audience during his solo
the "Earl can go deep, too" gag gets me every time 😆
Eli doing the "I see you" gesture at someone in the audience
Earl running out of steam on the long note sooner than usual and having some off-mic banter with Geoff about it
Tumblr media
"You know it's live when our faces look like that. #HighNotesHurt"
Trivia:
VoicePlay haven't released a studio version of this song to the public because it's such a live performance piece, but there is an audio recording available to their Patreon supporters.
They didn't end up including this in their setlist for the first Sing-Off tour, but it did make the cut for the second.
.
youtube
This is the roughest of the songs from that night, and a pretty good indication of why they didn't include it in their setlist for the tour. It definitely has some great moments, but the arrangement they'd tailored to Honey's voice just wasn't as comfortable for Emoni, and that's okay. That's what shakedowns are for.
Details:
title: Lady Gaga medley – ARTPOP
original songs / performer: all songs by Lady Gaga – "Aura"; [0:30] "Venus"; [1:14] "Do What U Want" featuring Christina Aguilera; [2:09] "Gypsy"; [2:24] "Applause"
written by: all songs by Stefani "Lady Gaga" Germanotta & collaborators – "Aura" with Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Erez Eisen, & Amit Duvdevani; "Venus" with Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Hugo Pierre "Madeon" Leclercq, Dino Zisis, Nick Monson, and Sun Ra; "Do What U Want" with R. Kelly, Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Martin Bresso, & William Grigahcine; "Gypsy" with Hugo Pierre "Madeon" Leclercq, Nadir "RedOne" Khayat, & Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair; "Applause" with Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Dino Zisis, & Nick Monson
arranged by: Layne Stein
My favorite bits:
Earl's smirk when he sings ♫ "garden panties" ♫ 😏
the little swell on the final ♫ "this could be looove" ♫
Eli's smooth diction through the rap section
their cohesion on the record-skip effect
the choreographed spins to draw attention to each singer as they layer into "Gypsy"
Tony getting into his groove during "Applause" with that pop timbre and those body rolls
the little ramp-up sound Layne makes going into the final section
Trivia:
VoicePlay originally recorded this medley with Honey Larochelle as part of their "Collide" album of collaborations with other Sing-Off season 4 competitors.
.
youtube
Now this arrangement was (quite literally) made for Emoni's voice and it shows. I'm sure not having to learn it from scratch made things much easier. This clip is missing the very beginning, but it's still a great time.
Details:
title: Can't Believe It
original performers: Flo Rida, featuring Pitbull [NOTE: The original lyrics and video are a fair bit racier than VP’s version.]
written by: Tramar "Flo Rida" Dillard, Armando "Pitbull" Pérez, Mike Caren, Luca Ciampi, Breyan Isaac, William Lobban-Bean, & Alexander Williams
arranged by: Layne Stein, Geoff Castellucci, & Hannah Juliano
My favorite bits:
seeing what choreography they added, since they were sitting in the original video
Geoff's meaty "wub-wub"s during the breakdown section
the boys obediently (and a little goofily) following Emoni's instructions from the lyrics
that big old riff
♫ "Boop." ♫
Layne's rhythmic shoulder wiggle as the others sing ♫ "how big that booty is" ♫
that smooth ending

Trivia:
The boys and Emoni initially recorded this song as part of VoicePlay's "Collide" album of collaborations with other Sing-Off season 4 competitors.

My RECAP: Brian Stokes Mitchell at Perelman Performing Arts Center in NYC, October 5, 2023
Tumblr media
Autumn in New York when it still feels like summer
It was so warm out on this early October day that I didn't even get to wear my Richard Gere pea coat trench, maybe next time. We spent a bunch of time wandering around St. Paul's Chapel and graveyard and visiting the September 11 memorial reflecting pools. The performing arts center is just across the street. This isn't a part of New York City that we've ever visited so we did a lot of exploring. Our next stop was the Tin Building and the Pier 17 waterfront area overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a really cool spot with lots of built-in outdoor seating and restaurants.
Not a library
The new Perelman Performing Arts Center is a big marble cube of a building with spaces that are designed to be flexible to accommodate all kinds of different performing arts needs. There's also a restaurant and lounge, an outdoor balcony and a giant staircase leading up. I work at Yale and it reminded me of the Beinecke Library because the there are no windows and the marble is designed so the light filters through. It was a pretty cool spot and I would love to see another show there sometime. You can read more about the building in this New York Times article (x).

Songs of Hope and Life
The show was Brian Stokes Mitchell accompanied by Ted Firth on piano and was titled Songs of Hope and Life. It lasted for a good two hours and Stokes did 18 songs including several that I personally hadn't heard him perform live before. You can find the setlist below. Highlights were pretty much all the songs I've never heard live before which were "Hope," "The Best Is Yet to Come," and "Being Alive." And I'll give a goofy honorable mention to "It's Not Easy Being Green" and "Hooray for Tom" mostly because of the surprise green spotlight which honestly cracked me up. When Stokes did "Odds on Favorite" and "Over the Moon" he was in full excitable-boy-mode. He literally sat at the piano and played an instrumental song from the E.T. soundtrack with Ted Firth playing his part standing up. I mean it was objectively adorable.
[side note: I was surprised to hear the Bruce Hornsby cover and it made me think that the Jackson Browne songs on my wishlist (x) might not be too far off the mark :)) Brian Stokes Mitchell "Sky Blue and Black" when?].
Twice in a lifetime opportunity?
Did I mention we were sitting in the front row center? Yeah, in a repeat of good fortune just like at the Town Hall show last April, we were lucky enough to sit in the front row. Which means we were lucky enough to witness the absolute artistry of Stokes singing "This Nearly Was Mine" with no microphone. I will never get tired of seeing him do this. What made this time especially cool was that he moved right up to the edge of the stage, right in front of us, to sing. Honestly, I was frozen in my seat, literally holding my breath at times. Like I can't properly explain how captivating it is to watch someone that talented and professional at their craft sing that close up and to be able to catch every mannerism, every dramatic choice, all of the breaths and swallows, all those small decisions during a performance. Just stunning. Here's audio of the song from that night (x), I know it can't truly capture the actual performance but you can get an idea of how cool it was to have Stokes basically sing this really special song right into your face.
Next up for us is Ridgefield, CT on October 29th. Super excited, can't wait to see Stokes sing again! You can find a link to his upcoming concert dates and other goodies in my pinned post (x).

Hey Sea, I know you’ve no interest in Harry. But what’s going on with his tickets? Apparently fans are livid that despite paying $1000+ for tickets to see him in NYC - now, days before the shows 100s OR 1000s of better seat tickets are being released. The shows are all posted as being sold out - but they are clearly not? How can HSHQ get away with scalping his fans. What will it take for fans to see that he has ZERO respect for them?
I just checked Ticketmaster (Harry’s official ticket sales site) and apparently they are selling tickets for all his upcoming shows.
DR/TL: I think Harry deliberately held back a percentage of premium tickets to drive up initial demand, in order to secure the highest prices.
Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing algorithm determines ticket prices through the ratio of ticket availability : audience demand. The fewer tickets are available compared to the # of people wanting to buy them (at the exact time they click “purchase”), the higher the prices.
So holding back premium tickets -> fewer tickets available -> higher initial prices.
Harry can still claim that his shows were “sold out” because all the tickets available were sold (to fans, secondary sales sites, scalpers etc.).
However, this strategy is Ticketmaster and the artist knowing how the algorithm works and deliberately gaming the system to extort higher ticket prices from audiences. It isn’t, as Irving Azoff said in justifying dynamic pricing, protecting the artist from scalpers. It’s the artists becoming scalpers THEMSELVES, creating that additional profit by hiding information from fans.
Irving Azoff’s quote from 2009:
At the All Things Digital Conference, Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff proclaimed, “We haven’t done enough dynamic pricing for tickets, and we should, and that will help make people happy.” Mr. Azoff is right, dynamic pricing is the key to pricing for profits and growth in the rock concert industry. [emphasis mine]
The challenges of setting concert ticket prices come down to two key issues: (1) uncertainty and (2) properly scaling the house (setting the right price for different seats).
(Azoff certainly found the right artist and the right fanbase for executing this plan.)
A second part of Harry’s deceitful strategy involves creating new seating areas to already sold-out concerts. Earlier this year, many fans found out that their front-row seats were no longer front-row, as new seating sections were added between their seats and the stage, so that the premium prices they paid no longer put them close to Harry. Again, the tickets (some of which were sold in 2019) were initially sold for higher prices with dynamic pricing according to their relative scarcity compared to audience demand, but then the artist pulled a bait and switch on the fans.
Obviously this strategy can only sell a limited number of extra tickets, because you can’t create a lot of extra seats out of a finite space.
Therefore, Harry decided to do a variation of the same strategy— not by creating extra seats, but by holding back blocks of tickets.
This isn’t illegal - yet. Artists have always had the prerogative of leaving sections of concert seating unsold. Usually they save it for family or friends, or for VIP invitations. But using this privilege to extort concert audiences is a new low-> not illegal but definitely unethical.
Addendum: Artists holding back tickets is old news.
However, a 2016 probe by the New York Attorney General's Office found that the reason tickets appear to sell out so quickly is because the vast majority of them are withheld from the general public. In fact, among the top concerts performed at New York venues between 2012 and 2015, the investigation found less than 25% of the tickets were released to the general public in an initial on-sale.
“Ticketing is a fixed game,” then-N.Y. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement accompanying his report.
In one example, the AG's report noted that only 1,600 tickets — less than 15% of all seats to the show — were released to the general public for a July 24, 2014 Katy Perry concert at Barclays Center.
"The average fan has no chance of buying tickets at face value," one New Yorker wrote in a complaint to the AG's office. "This is a disgrace."
However, this is much more insidious when combined with dynamic pricing, as Harry did.
