So I started the dub of Fruits Basket again.

Forgetting, of course, that the primary theme is about life changing and having to be okay with letting go of the past even though the future is uncertain.

More importantly, forgetting that one of the main threads of this throughout the series is Tohru's grief (and guilt) over her mother's death.

Well, you know what, my therapist told me to engage with grief as homework the past couple of weeks, so between this and starting Anohana again I THINK IT COUNTS.

no cause WHY does the prison ball adrienette scene back in risk LITERALLY remind me of yuchi. marinette and machi are the ONLY ONES who see right through adrien and yuki's facades and form strong connections with them (not saying nino and haru don't).

marinette can see that adrien does not like modeling and that he wants to quit and so she helps him stand up to his father. adrien does this in multiplication when he confronts gabriel about not wanting to model anymore. on the other end of the spectrum, machi sees yuki for who he is and doesn't consider him to be princely-like at all. with this, and tohru's influence on yuki as a whole, he gains up the courage to go to the new year's banquet and tell akito his true feelings on, well, how he's changed as a person in S2E24.

another example of adrienette being similar to yuchi is how once adrien starts dating marinette, he is able to help her after he finds out what chloe did to her in derision, saying that they'll get through it together even though it's scary and hard (he also legit confronts chloe about it too). yuki, already on his journey of healing thanks to tohru, helps machi by acknowledging her and saying that he'll make footprints on the snow with her after she opens up about her trauma, easing her fear of perfection.

Shiki's whole character arc is, like, he was raised by this woman who tried to murder people. she was cruel and inflicted irreparable damage. and she was also cruelly treated herself, and when she realized what she'd done she tried to make amends. and she knew some people could never forgive her and that her very presence would cause more harm, so she limited her exposure to other people in the family so that none of them would have to deal with her

but she had a kid and she didnt want her kid raised in the same isolation she was (and had inflicted), so she makes sure he gets to know and love his family when he's young. drops him off at big family events that she herself will not attend. and this works, he has a great relationship with the other kids, but as he gets older it starts to feel like a betrayal of his mom, who loved him so much, to leave her behind to be with the rest of the family

and it's a direct foil to the relationship the actual main character of FB:A (a girl who isn't even part of the sohma family!) has with her mother, who's emotionally and verbally abusive and neglectful. like the actual message of this sequel miniseries is about how family can be a curse even without the fantasy zodiac elements. but I think it's really cool that to highlight that message the author contrasts it with the newly free sohma family's complicated mess of healing from that generational trauma

It's been such a long time since I've watched an Anime that's kept my attention. I'll definietly be checking out the rest of your anime/manga recs on your page if you've made any and if not please provide me with some because your taste is amazing. I would have honestly not watched Tokyo Revengers if it wasn't for you. Also what happened to [REDACTED] during the bloody Halloween in October I'm still not over that. This shoe just kept surprising me only for it to end on thta cliffhanger. Might watch bungou Stray Dogs or fruits basket next if you've watched it is it any good. I read the fruits basket manga in the past when I was younger but I never finished it. I've heard that the anime is really good though.

THIS SCENE...

I have so many words.

You can tell this entire episode that Yuki wants to go off on Kyo for running away from Tohru and making her cry. But then he finds out about Tohru falling and pushes that to the back burner.

Then Kyo arrives on the scene. Yuki gives him a small glare, but still gets up and steps aside and lets Kyo come closer to Tohru, seeing her injured and unconscious. And that’s when this scene comes in.

Instead of saying anything right then and there, Yuki remains silent as he lets Kyo take in Tohru’s state. Not only because it wouldn’t help the situation, but because the whole scene is speaking for itself: Kyo ran and Tohru got hurt. Even as he’s looking at Tohru, you can tell he’s telling Kyo:

“You ran away the first time. But don’t run away now.” 

“Don’t leave her like this.”

And while he’s not blaming Kyo for the fall, he’s letting him know that his choices, especially the self-destructive ones, can affect the people he cares about and that his latest one inadvertently caused him to leave Tohru alone and be susceptible to pain. And even if Kyo is giving Yuki no attention whatsoever, the message gets across just fine.

Favourite story you’ve written so far: i agonized over this one i gotta say. but I keep returning to Always Falling Down, a To the Moon fanfic which is incredibly id-ficcy. and I get to say it’s a canon-adjacent AU because small fandom = small canon ^w^

Fic you were most nervous to post: no contest!! winter covers everything, a Yuri On Ice canon-divergent AU. A: I focus on a minor female character, B: I break up not one but TWO canon ships, one of which is THE ship for the fandom... and C: make that ship polyamorous with the minor female character. I. was. TERRIFIED. but instead it’s been silent, and the few comments I’ve gotten are so wonderful and kind ugh ;_; (and i love that fic universe and i’m gonna write more, now that I know the fandom isn’t inclined to hateread and flame... knock on wood everywhere buhuhu-)

How do you choose your titles: a lot of times they’re based off song lyrics. But when lyrics don’t feel right I try to pick something that relates to the fic, sometimes in a painfully obvious way bc I’m not good at titles >w

Do you outline: sometimes I’ll do mini-outlines for a certain scene, but.., yeah no I’m kind of a pantser and often just forget that outlines are a thing that might be useful??

Complete fics: I have three complete multifandom collections (2 for ficlets, 1 for drabbles), one complete multichapter fic, and 61(!! what!!) complete oneshots-- 4 of those in one fic, a shipweek.

Do you accept prompts: Always, yes, send away. My openness to prompts is probably to my detriment!!! Bc there are some embarrassingly old asks that I’m still gonna answer!!!!

Upcoming story you’re most excited to write: I’m working on a idficcy Yukyoru WIP that’s got me all soft. And actually working on two RPF WIPs for two different big bangs (yes, tiny rareships again, as is my wont in fictional fandoms~
