A weird trope I really like is Space Platforms
My working definition of a Space Platform is something that satisfies all of these criteria:
Artificial
Terrain (used primarily as a surface to stand and/or build on )
Suspended in space or high in the sky
Despite objective local gravity such that you could fall “down” off the side
Some things that are and aren’t Space Platforms
Stacraft’s Space Platform terrain, probably the purest example of it:
Tumblr media
You walk on them, you build buildings on them, and there’s ice cream shops built into the walls (also they’re literally called space platforms):
Tumblr media
Wube had planned on but eventually abandoned space platforms for Factorio that are very clearly inspired by Starcraft:
Tumblr media
Gryphon Station in Tyrian has standing water and jungles exposed to the Space Air:
Tumblr media
Motos I’m pretty sure explicitly refers to the environment as a series of space platforms; there’s no buildings (unless you count Nabicons) but the platforms are clearly artificial, they’re thin enough that the only thing you can do is stand (and jump) on them, and the objective of the game is to shove enemies off the platform and into the void:
Tumblr media
Skyroads consists of driving and jumping a space car along treacherous space platforms:
Tumblr media
Final Destination in Smash Bros.:
Tumblr media
They seem to be a lot more common in games than in other media, but they’re out there. Most famously probably is The Jetsons:
Tumblr media
The truck stop in Spaceballs is a fantastic space platform:
Tumblr media
The Wander Over Yonder episode “The Box” has people milling about on space platforms (but contrast with “Duck Dodgers In The 24½th Century” later):
Tumblr media
The ring city from Treasure Planet is a weird one because it’s the only one I’ve encountered that doesn’t have a uniform up and down, but unlike the rotating space stations it’s meant to evoke, you still experience objective gravity while standing on your ship next to it
Tumblr media
And last, close to my heart is the floating platform “Cool Lightning” from the lost comic Monster Killers (which was heavily influenced by video games):
Tumblr media
Now for some things that are not Space Platforms, even though they’re great in their own ways.
1) Floating Islands (they’re terrain, but not artificial terrain):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) The RLS Legacy from Treasure Planet and other tall ships in space (vehicles, not terrain):
Tumblr media
3) Buildings with lots of interior volume and no walkable surfaces, such as these buildings in The Jetsons:
Tumblr media
and the Cloud City in Star Wars:
Tumblr media
4) Artificial terrain that relies on centrifugal artificial gravity, such as Ringworld, the Halo Installations, O’Neill Cylinder, Stanford Torus, etc. These more or less obey real world physics and aren’t magically levitating, and while you could “fall off” one, you aren’t affected by gravity unless you’re standing on the surface:
Tumblr media
And now for some borderline cases.
Neverhood. Hoborg constructed it, but does his divinity mean that it’s natural rather than artificial? Aesthetics are more “floating island” than “space platform” but the lore points the other way:
Tumblr media
Death Egg and Doomsday Zones in Sonic & Knuckles. The interior seems to contain most of the important stuff, but Sonic spends most of the time running around on the exterior:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The walkways in Duck Dodgers In The 24½th Century. They’re very similar to the Wander Over Yonder platforms, but they’re not extensive enough that I’m happy calling them “terrain.” Space Balconies maybe.

Preliminary Review: Gladiator (2000)
Warning for spoilers.
New fandom just dropped: Gladiator (2000). It's set in pre-Christian Rome, so it uses ancient Roman mythology (e.g. Elysium) but still it's a compelling and tear-jerking story if you can suspend your disbelief properly.
Yes I like old movies. Yes it's more historical fiction. Yes I am now reading 2001 fanfic that was abandoned in 2004. Yes I post reviews anyway. So?
That movie was amazing. It suspended my disbelief like nothing has in a WHILE. It made me cry, which is tough to do.
In accordance with my recent character study on my top-ranking obsessions, Maximus the main character slots in BEAUTIFULLY but not in a typical way. His devotion and loyalty is to his family, his wife and son (and despite being away in battles for nearly three years, the movie does an amazing job convincing you that these ARE his greatest reasons for living) is his primary motivation. And he loses them. What follows is an astonishing exploration of his mental state following this, from apathy and passivity to simply surviving, to being revitalized in the name of revenge. Through it all is the theme of death - intimately close for a soldier and now gladiator - around every corner and in his thoughts continually as he thinks of his family. They are waiting for him in Elysium. In the end he dies - this is upsetting and distressing, of course, but also the only reasonable way it could have ended. His family was his reason for living. His family was his everything. What point would there be to life afterward?
It's an extremely interesting exploration of the theme that speaks to me; usually it's about a person's values and what they sacrifice for those values, and the level of significance that sacrifice was and what it meant. This time it's about having values (family) and refusing to sacrifice those to (some might think) a higher calling or duty. It's about losing, unwillingly, the things that are valued rather than sacrificing and/or regaining them.
However, Maximus the main character DOES also fit another common theme of my top obsessions: military or at least battle experience, despite the fact that I don't think I feel anything particularly strongly about the fact that a person is battle-hardened. But perhaps the combat experience shows another side to dedication and loyalty: that of risking life. Soldiers have strong force of will and self-control. Perhaps that life is necessary for the denial of self/desires for a higher cause that is inherent in my favorite themes. Thoughts to ponder.

Dictionary works on tablets and phones and is refreshingly free from annoying ads and paid upgrades. There is also a "word of the day" with our pick of the most interesting and entertaining words in the English language.
#TYRIAN 2000 BEST WEAPONS OFFLINE#
And we managed to keep data offline without needing a massive app download. It also works well if you only have an intermittent network connection because the definitions are stored offline, locally on the device. You can see your word history and revisit definitions, or make your own list of favourite words to help build up your vocabulary. The speech function helps provide the correct pronunciation. Definitions include synonyms and antonyms which allows the dictionary to also serve as a thesaurus. Wildcard characters can be used to help with word games like crosswords and scrabble where only some of the letters are known, or you have to find an anagram, or with spelling. Then you can follow the links in the definition page to get more word definitions. As you type, Dictionary homes in on the word you are looking for. The home page contains a randomly selected word cloud which will pique your curiosity and help you improve your vocabulary, while the search box allows you to find specific words easily. The dictionary definitions are stored locally, and because it's ad-free there's no need for a network connection. Dictionary is ideal for both native English speakers and English learners or people studying the English language. Before the player's starship is destroyed it must take enough damage to exhaust several points of shields (which regenerate over time) and armor.Ĭontrols: use accelerometer or screen taps to control a spaceship tap on the screen to fire front/rear weapon (if autofire turned off) tap two fingers at the same time to fire a sidekicks (you'll really need sidekicks to pass some levels without cheating!)ĭictionary is a free offline English dictionary containing over 200,000 words and definitions and no ads. The game is mostly fast-paced but easily memorizable and it presents a variety of enemies (some flying, some fixed, some on rails) and bosses, with many occurrences of fixed and/or indestructible obstacles. The player controls a space ship fitted with different weapons (front and back, linked to the same button, and up to two external pods with their own buttons) and other equipment. Trent manages to secure a small fighter, and departs for Savara. Trent is the next person on their hit list, and Buce implores him to try to reach Savara, a free world. They will stop at nothing to eliminate anyone who knows of its existence. Microsol want to use Gravitium to power their warships, which could result in them becoming nearly unstoppable. They want Buce dead because of his knowledge of Gravitium, which is a special mineral, unique to Tyrian, able to control the force of gravity. Buce lives just long enough to tell Trent that the attack was the work of MicroSol, the giant corporation who controls the terraformation of Tyrian. One day, Buce Quesillac, a Hazudra and Trent's best friend, is shot in the back by a hoverdrone which quickly disappears into the sky. His latest assignment is the planet Tyrian, which is located near the territory of the Hazudra, who are a lizard-like race. You play the role of a skilled terraforming pilot named Trent Hawkins, who is employed to scout out habitable locations on newly terraformed planets. TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS UPGRADE
TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS FULL
TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS WINDOWS
Secret Messages Epic Megagames, the original distributor of Tyrian, has embedded various messages inside the plot. A lot of people are still speculating which company/organization MicroSol's rival, Gencore, represent. MicroSol, the company which tries to take over the world in Tyrian, is arguably a non-very-small pun at Microsoft. Tyrian's logo (in the main menu) can be read both the usual way and upside down! They can be downloaded at, or through mirrors at its preeminent fanpage: This game, along with unreleased ports of it to the GameBoy Colour and GameBoy Advance, were re-released as freeware August 17th, 2004, by the author, Jason Emery. To reach it type 'destruct' in the main menu. One secret game (see screenshots), which is something of a simultaneous Scorched Earth, was forgotten in the original Tyrian and added to Tyrian V2 (then to Tyrian 2000). There are several levels in which you can get to as much as 3 different secret levels from 3 different places inside the same level!Īlso, several (believed to be 3) secret games were added to Tyrian v2.0 (and consequently, Tyrian 2000), the first of which is called Zinglon's Ale. Over a dozen secret levels can be reached, and there's also a secret level which leads to another. Tyrian is STUFFED with secrets, it's simply amazing. Tyrian's complete arsenal amound to over a dozen type of ships and over 100 weapon types!
TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS UPGRADE
It features a multi-layered ship upgrade engine, in which you can change hulls, decide upon and upgrade your front and rear weapons, buy better shields and generators and even add ship "sidekicks". Tyrian also has two player arcade mode and supports network/modem/serial play. Through your struggles, you will find yourself again and again betrayed by friends and allies, your parents will be killed and you will have to return to points you've already been to (with variations on the levels) in order to remove further threats to the galaxy and to yourself, all for the ultimate goal of overthrowing MicroSol. Again and again, Trent must fight off MicroSol, a company with the evil intent of taking over the galaxy. You play the role of Trent Hawkings, this galaxy's ace solo fighter-pilot, whose luck forces him to save the galaxy, one time after another. It gained a following even larger than the classic Raptor: Call of the Shadows, and rightfully so: it has a plot. Tyrian is nothing like your run-of-the-mill shoot-'em-up. It also adds another option called "Timed Battle".
TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS WINDOWS
It is essentially the same game with an additional new episode (Hazudra Fodder), a revised engine (less bugs and better controls) and added Windows support. A modern classic in its own right. Not an American user? Description Tyrian 2000 is a direct re-release of the original action smash, Tyrian. Billed as an affordable alternative arcade game, Tyrian 2000 serves to remind everyone that it doesn't always take a high budget gaming machine to satisfy. With 65 levels that span over five episodes, multiplayer modes, and the same furious gameplay that Tyrian fans miss, Tyrian 2000 deserves to go down in history as one of the best shooter sequels ever made. These tracks come in a CD Audio format, so you can also play them in an ordinary CD player. The sound design is very nice, with tons of original synthesized music tracks. You have shields that are constantly getting drained, and there's no way to prevent yourself from getting hit unless you have godlike reflexes, so you need to be careful. The high difficulty level of Tyrian is back, but even more difficult this time around. Gradually you upgrade your rear, side, and front guns, making your ship a force to be reckoned with. Your itinenary takes you through a set of campaign missions, and credits are built up by scavenging coins and such from destroyed enemies.
TYRIAN 2000 IN DOS FULL
The difference between One Player Full mode and the other modes is the option to buy new parts for your ship before every level. It has ten (or more) ships and over 100 weapons to blow away enemies and rake in points with. The game offers lots of game modes including several hidden ones. Instead of upgrading the original's graphics to modern-day 3D pizzazz, the designers chose to use the same 2D VGA graphics that the fans are familiar with. Newcomer XSIV Games had a lot to live up to in developing the unofficial sequel to this masterpiece, but fortunately, Tyrian 2000 more than deserves the Tyrian name.įirst looks at the game should assure every old-school arcade fan that XSIV Games is on the right track. With excellent graphics, smooth animations, and many inventive enemies and levels, it remains one of the best-loved shooters that's still found on many fans' hard drives. Tyrian is one of the best top-down shooters ever made for the PC, period.

TYRIAN 2000 BACKTRACKING FREE
Pompey to laid siege to Aristobulus’s stronghold in Jerusalem: the temple. Aristobulus evidently encouraged a revolt against his brother, which Pompey deemed impudent enough that he backtracked to Palestine.
TYRIAN 2000 BACKTRACKING FREE
Pompey stalled on settling the matter and instead ventured into Nabataea, apparently free of any diplomatic pretext for the invasion. Pompey was greeted by delegates from both brothers when he arrived in Damascus. Judaea was also in the middle of a civil war at the time: Hyrcanus II was the high priest who claimed the throne, though his brother Aristobulus II, who controlled the Jerusalem treasury and had the support of Pompey’s legate Aemilius Scaurus, sought it as well. Pompey intervened in the civil war by annexing Syria as a province. Though the Seleucid dynasty had functionally ended, rival Seleucid claimants were midst a civil war despite controlling only a little land surrounding Damascus. Syria was immediately south of Pontus and Armenia. This, however, was far from the end of Rome’s campaign in the eastern Mediterranean. In 63 BCE, Mithridates committed suicide, bringing this particular war to an end. Pompey proved more successful than Lucullus in taking Pontus. By 66 BCE, it seems that troops were unwilling to obey Lucullus, so the Senate placed Pompey in command of the region. Lucullus had modest success in conquering Armenia, but his authority over his troops quickly waned thanks to major loss of life in battle, failure to capture either Mithridates or Tigranes, his inability to grant his troops plunder, and active attempts by the Roman general Pompey and his surrogates to sew dissension. War soon ensued between Rome and the Armenian king Tigranes II. The Roman general Lucullus eventually repelled Pontic forces, but instead of pursuing the enemy king, Lucullus opted to conquer the whole of Pontus, leaving the king to seek refuge among his allies in Armenia. Mithridates had no reason to honour Nicomedes’s will and so invaded Bithynia after Nicomedes’s passing, despite the fact that it had been Roman province by that time, thus inaugurating the Third Mithridatic War ( 74-63 BCE). The relationship between Bithynian royalty and the Roman Senate had been unusually close, to the point where Nicomedes bequeathed his kingdom to Rome upon his death in 74 BCE. This growth was deemed threatening to others in the region, most significantly Rome’s ally Nicomedes IV in Bithynia. As Seleucia faded from the scene of Near Eastern politics, the kingdom of Pontus quickly expanded under Mithridates VI, to the extent that that it comprised nearly the whole of Asia Minor. Though there was a nominal treaty between Rome and Hasmonaean Judaea, the first phase of meaningful Roman-Judaean relations began midst the general Pompey’s campaign in the Near East. Tyrian vs tyrian 2000

#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 GENERATOR#
#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 FREE#
#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 WINDOWS#
This element plays into the whole genre style of strict memorization to gain the upper hand. On the bright side, they weren’t randomized so you could memorize the layout and find the best equipment load out to suit your play-style. The best part was, you always had a slightly different array of weapons/sidekicks to choose from. Throughout the levels you killed enemies to earn more points (cash) to spend in the interim of the next level. Before the first level you could pick from several different front weapon types. In fact, even by today’s standard of shmups it’s still pretty in depth. The systems for the game were particularly in depth for a six year old.
#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 GENERATOR#
You can choose to upgrade your front weapon, your rear weapon, your left and right sidekicks, your shields, your ship, and your generator (I should mention before I go on that this was for the story mode of the game). You start off with a bit of points (cash) to spend on upgrades. So, Tyrian 2000, it’s a game right? Okay, so basically you boot it up and you have your basic ship: the Talon. Perhaps I’m getting a bit ahead of myself, so I will use this next paragraph to explain the game to those who haven’t already messed around with the game. It taught me the importance of saving funds and to to put off certain upgrades until later. I mean, no other game taught me to make important decisions like picking the higher damage concentrated shot vs. It was easily the best game I had ever played to date.
#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 WINDOWS#
I believe it was shortly after we had a computer that ran Windows 95 (NON-SEQUITUR ALERT: yes I also loved the shit out of Hover) that I encountered this game. It was also one of the first that wasn’t an educational game that I could remember. This game was one of the first to get me interested in gaming. This is the first real game that I could clearly remember and reminisce about when I saw it pop up on GoG a couple of years ago.
#TYRIAN VS TYRIAN 2000 FREE#
To this day I think it still has to do with the fact that my parents got tons of shit from IBM after they had both been laid off from that company they still received computers for so cheap it’s basically free prices (gotta love those benefits). Back in 1995 I was only six years old, and somehow this game was appeared on my family computer. HOWEVER, I think it’s fitting to start with the shmup that started it all for me. The level memorization, the quick reflexes, and excellent variety in difficulty the genre offers. The reason I’ve decided to choose shmups is that it has always tickled my brain in the right ways. There are a couple of games here and there I have 1CC’d, but I’m sure I’ll get to them in the future. There are 5 episodes in this game, with only the first episode playable in the shareware version.Let me preface this by saying: I’ve never been terribly good at the genre of Shoot-‘em-ups. A fifth episode was added to version 3.0, at which time the game was officially renamed Tyrian 2000. Originally a trilogy, a new episode was added in version 2.0. You can sometimes choose the levels you play by choosing a direction on the map screen, and there are secret bonus levels. The story actually has depth and is not merely an afterthought to provide continuity to the levels. Even the advertisements provide some background information, and other characters contact you to keep you apprised of the situation. You can collect money to buy upgrades for your ship, as well as pick up holographic data cubes that provide information or contribute to the story, or contain advertisements for fictional products. The self-regenerating shields are especially helpful for aggressive players. Many enemy ships, especially bosses, visibly take damage and break into smaller vehicles as pieces get destroyed, adding a real arcade feel to the game. At the highest settings, Tyrian features amazing graphics and sounds, as well as voice. Originally published as Tyrian, this game is widely regarded as one of the best shooters ever.

Tyrian 2000 fleet mission
Tumblr media
8 Everyone suspected that the man had made up the story in order to curry favour with At the distribution of rations on the Macedonian side, the broken pieces of bread had a bloody look. 11 Someone reported, on the Tyrian side, that he had seen a vision in which Apollo told him that he would leave the city. It crashed into the mole but did it no harm, remained resting a portion of its body against it for a long time and then swam off into the sea again. 10 6 This strange event threw both sides into superstition, each imagining that the portent signified that Poseidon would come to their aid, for they were swayed by their own interest in the matter.ħ There were other strange happenings too, calculated to spread confusion and terror among the people. Out of the sea a tidal wave tossed a sea-monster of incredible size into the midst of the Macedonian operations. 9ĥ As the Macedonian construction came within range of their missiles, portents were sent by the gods to them in their danger. 4 All kinds of novel devices were fashioned by them, so that the entire circuit of the walls was covered with machines, especially on that side where the mole was approaching the city. 3 They had a wealth of catapults and other engines employed for sieges and they had no difficulty in constructing more because of engineers and artisans of all sorts who were in the city. P235 almost their whole population still in the city. 2 They did succeed in getting a part of their children and women to safety with the Carthaginians, 8 but they were outstripped by the abundance of Alexander's labour force, and, not being able to stop his advance with their ships, were compelled to stand the siege with 5 Immediately he demolished what was called Old Tyre 5 and set many tens of thousands of men to work carrying stones to construct a mole two plethra in width. 6 He drafted into service the entire population of the neighbouring cities and the project advanced rapidly because the workers were numerous.Ĥ1 1 At first, the Tyrians sailed up to the mole and mocked the king, asking if he thought that he would get the better of Poseidon. 7 Then, as the work proceeded with unexpected rapidity, they voted to transport their children and women and old men to Carthage, assigned the young and able-bodied to the defence of the walls, and made ready for a naval engagement with their eighty triremes. 3Ĥ The king saw that the city could hardly be taken by sea because of the engines mounted along its walls and the fleet that it possessed, while from the land it was almost unassailable because it lay four furlongs away from the coast. 4 Nevertheless he determined to run every risk and make every effort to save the Macedonian army from being held in contempt by a single undistinguished city. They also hoped for help from their colonists, the Carthaginians. They would draw Alexander into a protracted and difficult siege and give Dareius time for his military preparations, and at the same time they had confidence in the strength of their island and the They wanted to gratify Dareius and keep unimpaired their loyalty to him, and thought also that they would receive great gifts from the king in return for such a favour. 2 Then he marched on towards Egypt, and as he came into Phoenicia, received the submission of all the other cities, for their inhabitants accepted him willingly.Īt Tyre, however, when the king wished to sacrifice to the Tyrian Heracles, 2 the people overhastily barred him from entering the city 3 Alexander became angry and threatened to resort to force, but the Tyrians cheerfully faced the prospect of a siege. Then he performed rich sacrifices to the gods and rewarded those who had borne themselves well in battle with gifts appropriate to each, and rested the army for some days. P231 40 1 When Niceratus was archon at Athens, the Romans elected as consuls Marcus Atilius and Marcus Valerius, and the one hundred and twelfth Olympic Games were held, in which Grylus of Chalcis was the victor. 1 In this year, Alexander buried the dead from his victory at Issus, including even those of the Persians who had distinguished themselves by courage.

Natural history and iconography of purple shellsĪrticleTitleTyrian Purple: 6,6′-dibromoindigo and related compounds Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali, Trento, p 133 In: Borrello M A (ed) Conchiglie e Archeologia. Haubrichs R (2004) L’étude de la pourpre: histoire d’une couleur, chimie et expérimentations. Natural dyes – sources, tradition, technology and science Rackham H (transl), Loeb Classical Library, Harvard University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Book IX Peck A L (transl), Loeb Classical Library, Harvard University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Book V This is only the second chromatographic finding of a molluskan purple colorant in use as an ancient paint pigment and not as a textile dye, and the only example yet discovered where it is the sole paint pigment on such a large royal art object.Īristotle (2002) History of animals. The entire exterior of the vessel – including its base – was originally painted purple by using a fresco-type technique. A comparison with the relative dye compositions of various Muricidae species ( Hexaplex trunculus, Bolinus brandaris, and Stramonita haemastoma), and with their newly formulated Di-Mono Index values, suggests that the biological provenance of this ancient pigment was probably an indigo-deficient Hexaplex trunculus sea snail. This analysis establishes that a marine mollusk was the source of the purple pigment, which is the famous Royal Purple or Tyrian Purple of the ancients. The major colorants identified in the purple pigment are 6,6′-dibromoindigo, 6-monobromoindigo, and 6,6′-dibromoindirubin, with negligible contributions by indigo and 6-bromoisatin. This 30 × 37 cm pear-shaped marble vessel contains carved inscriptions praising the Persian king Darius I and is unique due to the use of quadrilingual writings on a vessel of that king. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with photodiode array (PDA) detection was used for the microchemical analysis of a purple residue on the surface of a 2500-year old stone jar.

#Tyrian 2000 sewsh.shp upgrade
#Tyrian 2000 sewsh.shp Pc
Tyrian 2000 still possesses the original’s twitch-inducing gameplay and still requires a good deal of luck as well as skill to get through the onslaught of enemies. It’s an interesting nostalgic touch, if nothing else. A jukebox option allows you to listen to all 25 music selections from the game. The sound and music, like the graphics, don’t seem to have moved too far from the original game either. Sure, the game has a new mode that requires you to buy your power-ups rather than collect them during gameplay, but that’s more of a hassle than fun in this reviewer’s opinion. Actually, other than making it Windows compatible, I’m not sure of exactly what advantages this game has over the original at all. It plays exactly the same as it did in 1994. In fact, the game looks exactly the same as it did in 1994. The graphics have not been updated at all since the original game was released six years ago. To be honest, Tyrian 2000 is nothing to look at. The editor then allows you to change the look of the ship so it maintains the proper perspective when you turn and move around in the game. The ships are actually constructed in a paint program capable of creating PCX format graphics files. Tyrian 2000 also allows you to edit your own ships with the Ship Editor. Additional points are given based on your time and the number of ships you have left. A “timed battle mode” asks you to battle through one of three levels to get on the high score board.
#Tyrian 2000 sewsh.shp upgrade
In the one player “arcade game,” you must grab power-ups that appear as you kill enemies to upgrade your ship. In the one player “full game,” destroying enemies gets you coins that you can use to upgrade your ship’s weapons and armor. There are some variations to the game but, essentially, the object remains the same. Tyrian 2000 throws you into a weapons-heavy spaceship and asks you to shoot everything that you possibly can. It simply adds more stuff and gives the game a shot at a gaining a new audience that may not have even heard of the original game. It doesn’t attempt to re-invent the game at all. Enter Tyrian 2000, their re-vamped version of the original game.
#Tyrian 2000 sewsh.shp update
XSIV Games have decided that what the world needs now is an update to the classic Tyrian experience. Since the game didn’t require a tricked out mega-computer to run, the game was accessible to a wide audience.įast forward to the present-day. The object was simple: shoot everything that came at you and collect power-ups that appeared every so often. Tyrian was a top-down shooter that was very reminiscent of arcade games like Raiden and 1943. In 1994, before the Internet became the main method of distributing shareware and demos, one of the hottest such titles was a little game called Tyrian.
#Tyrian 2000 sewsh.shp Pc
Back in the days before 3D-accelerated games, PC gamers were playing VGA-powered games that put more emphasis on gameplay than graphics.

“Why don’t we settle this with a wager then?!”
K’thalen froze with his cup pressed against his lips. He slowly looked down at the enraged lalafell with a sly smile spread across his lips. “Now yer talkin’ my language.”
“N-noli, maybe we should take a breath and-” Zoronado stopped mid-sentence when she shot him an angry glare; he knew better than to tell her to calm down at a time like this.
“A drinking wager!” She spat, compelling him to put his mug down. “Whoever’s still conscious wins!”
Another condescending chuckle came from the back of the Miqo’te’s throat, filling Nonoli with additional rage she didn’t realize she had room for. “Lil’lady… are ye serious? Challengin’ me? To a DRINKIN’ game? Oooh, heh heh heh… ye must be angry, aintcha? Heh heh heh…!”
It was Augusta’s turn to chime in. “He’s right, Noli… he drinks a lot. Like… a lot…”
“I drink too!” She squeaked back, stomping her tiny lalafeet. “All the time!”
K’thalen leaned forward to rest his arms on his knees. “Pteh… lotsa wine. Gloooorified grapejuice, lass– what I drink on the regular’ll knock ye out flat. Ya don’t want this. Heh heh heh…”
Nonoli was at her breaking point! “Then we choose our opponent’s drinks! My stuff is stronger than your gross whiskey, I swear it!” Both Augusta and Zoronado gave each other concerning glances but at this point the woman was too angry to listen to reason.
Far too long this man has mocked her, ridiculed her, bullied her! He thought he was so clever, so funny– always laughing, always calling her names! The fury of a thousand suns burned in her veins and cried out for vengeance, for justice! Slowly K’thalen rubbed at his chin, unable or unwilling to hide his amusement. “Aight… yer on, Popoto Princess, heh heh!”

“Look at this lil’fishbowl-headed, pouty-faced, barrel-bodied brat, heh heh heh… oooh she’s MAD mad, ha ha! She’s in fer a world o’hurt when she’s facedown in the dirt!”

“I can’t stand his stupid face! I’ll wipe that smile off if it’s the last thing I do! Mark my words, this rat-faced ruffian is going down! DOWN!”
Both opponents sat down nearby– with Nonoli having to add additional padding so she could actually reach the table. She was furious– perhaps more than she has been in a long time. Augusta reluctantly brought K’thalen’s drink of choice with Zoronado rummaging through Nonoli’s bags for hers. The time for trash-talking was over, now all they did was stare deeply into each other’s eyes while their friends prepared the shots.
Naturally K’thalen went first. He brought the drink up to his lips and knocked it back with one gulp, immediately smacking his lips and grimacing with disgust. “What kinda wine is this shite…? Can’t taste the alcohol under all this damn sugar… ya really drink this garbage?”
Nonoli didn’t answer. She pinched her button nose shut and exhaled sharply before downing her shot; fire ignited in her throat and burned a hole through her barrel-shaped body all the way down, but she didn’t waver. Zoronado and Augusta both stared in awe as the little Lalafell remained unflinching after tasting the worst of the worst– black belly whiskey.
Round two was more of the same. K’thalen clearly hated the taste but downed it all the same, tempted to grab a whiskey shot to wash it down. Nonoli barely blinked but never stopped glaring up at him, repeating the trick she used before to knock back the whiskey with minimal effort.
Round three was when things started to change, however. K’thalen rubbed at his chest after downing his shot, already teetering but without the buzz he longed for. Nonoli coughed and almost sputtered, but she clasped her hand over her mouth and forced herself to swallow. Both of them were beginning to get dizzy, compelling their friends to stand nearby and behind them– just in case they fell over. Yet Nonoli couldn’t lose… she had a reputation to uphold.
“Nono…” Zoronado whispered, rubbing at her shoulders amidst her laborious breathing. “It’s not too late… we can go fishing, or something… just you and me?” She blinked again, and for half a heartbeat her beloved knight was convinced she was considering it. That is until she opened her mouth and gestured for the next shot.
“He besmirched my honor.”
K’thalen was forced to take off his hat and shake his head furiously to ward off the dizzying stupor on the seventh round. Augusta offered to take his hat from him but he waved his hand dismissively at her before slapping it back onto his head. Beads of sweat glistened on his forehead and he was struggling to stay upright; surprisingly his smirk had vanished. This little lady was more of a match than he thought. Nonoli hiccuped when it was her turn… and the nausea from so much whiskey was beginning to take its toll on her.
With a trembling hand he slurped down his shot on the twelth round, but the glass slipped from his shaking fingers. Augusta gasped when he slumped forward toward the table, but he forced himself to press on; unfortunately he over-corrected, and the spinning forest around them suddenly lurched forward moments before he slammed his head onto Augusta’s lap! THONK!
“I don’t believe it…!” She stared at the teetering Lalafell with amazement. “You… you actually did it?!”
Nonoli wiped the drool from the corner of her lip and raised a thumb towards Augusta… then she collapsed backwards into Zoronado’s awaiting arms. The Miqo’te sniffed curiously at the drink K’thalen was downing… and burst into an uproarious laughter!
“W-what’s so funny?!” Zoronado asked, startled.
“Clever girl… HAHAHA!” Augusta couldn’t finish her sentence, slamming her hand on the nearby table. Only after staring at the bottle did Zoronado recognize it– causing him to laugh too.
She wasn’t serving K’thalen alcohol at all… but a sleep potion potent enough to knock out a behemoth. She... she CHEATED!!!
