Paying my respects for the first visit of the new year! I loved every second I spent here. I went when there was only one other person here and it was so peaceful. Water droplets from previous rainfall were dripping off of every branch and leaf. The river running next to the shrine provided the perfect white noise. As I was walking on the path to the shrine I couldn’t help but be reminded of the dense foliage of Hawaii. It made me so homesick! I found out about this shrine while doing a research project on the architectural history of the torii. Before that, I had no idea that America even had a Shinto shrine. I would have loved to make it up here during the actual New Year’s event, but alas, it could not be done.
