June, 1959
Your mother is sick.
When your brother sent you the telegram, you had expected it to be another plea to visit more, to bring Junghee to see your ageing family a little more often. To help out more with the family business. For years now, you had been the ungrateful daughter that had run away from town at twenty and never looked back. In your family’s eyes, that was a betrayal.
Growing up, you were always the one who lessened the burden for your family. Your father had been sadly killed during World War Two, and the tensions on the homefront had taken your eldest brother from you a year after you left. In between the passing of your father and your departure from the seaside town where you grew up, you had spent the majority of your time taking care of those around you. You’d never asked for anything, never wanted for anything more than what your mother and older brothers were prepared to give you, even if that sometimes meant upsetting you.
Your family weren’t poor, not by any means. You had a good home, good education and a slew of well-bred friends. You had been given the luxury to spend your time with a multitude of kind, if not slightly boring girls, and for a long time you had believed you were lucky. It wasn’t until you turned eighteen that your friendships seemed to pose an issue, and later led to the aforementioned escape.
The hand holding the telegram trembles slightly, and you place the letter on the table. Any moment now, Junghee will come running down the stairs ready for breakfast, and here you are daydreaming of the past. You haven’t allowed yourself to do that in a long time, and you have come too far to fall victim to painful memories now.
As if sensing your turmoil, your five year old daughter bounds down the steps and rushes through the archway into the small kitchenette. Her hair is mussed, dark and thick, falling over her small shoulders while she stares up at you bleary eyed.
“Morning, mama,”
“Come on, sweetheart,” You usher your child onto the seat at the tiny kitchen table, “time for breakfast,”
It’s only when you say the words that you notice the lump in your throat, and you know that no matter your complicated relationship with your hometown and with your mother, you are upset to hear that she is so unwell. The familiar guilt you had always felt as the only daughter comes rushing back so fierce it takes your breath away, and you brace a hand on the kitchen chair to steady yourself.
“Where’s papa?” Jung-hee asks, her tiny fist wrapped around the spoon she uses to dunk into her cereal, splattering milk on the tablecloth. She doesn’t look up at you, and you wonder if perhaps she has inherited your traits as a child, keeping to herself, maintaining a meek, quiet demeanour. You dearly hope she hasn’t.
With a deep inhale, you swallow the emotions clogging your throat and grab the hairbrush off the counter, gathering her knotted locks and combing through them gently, “Papa is away this week, remember?”
Youngsik hadn’t wanted to leave, but running a business from home isn’t feasible, and so you understood when he pressed a quick kiss to your lips early this morning and jumped into a taxi. Despite the love you feel for your husband, whenever he kisses you, that familiar deep pang of longing always bursts free seeking its mate. You don’t know how many times in the last six years of your marriage that you’ve had to focus on something else, anything else, to get the feeling to go away.
It seems that even here in Seoul, far away from your family or from the memories your hometown provokes, you can’t escape the lingering feelings of lost love. Perhaps you never will, and it’s that thought that keeps you awake at night.
Tumblr media
The train is smooth despite the rough terrain, and you attempt to focus on Junghee sitting in your lap and looking out for animals to distract yourself from the fact you are returning home for the first time in seven years. Even though there are a couple of hours left of the journey, you can practically feel the suffocating energy of the town ahead drawing you in, taunting you.
It’s hard to predict what awaits you in Busan, but one thing for certain is that you will come face to face with your mother for the first time since you begged her to let you move to Seoul and finish your studies there. Teary eyes, a broken heart, sobs wracking your body with such ferocity that even now you find it hard to draw in a breath from the memory alone.
Your mother was always a cold woman; quiet, reserved and hell bent on making sure her children slotted neatly into society. Everywhere had a social ladder, and even in a sleepy place such as Busan, there was always a hierarchy that your mother strived to maintain. One foot out of her carefully calculated plan inspired a world of icy anger that scared you more than your father’s fiery temper had as a child.
It’s her dark, penetrating stare that you remember most about the rainy night you made your getaway. The moment your mother got a chance, she had bundled you onto the first train with a healthy envelope of money and a promise from you to only return once you had fixed the mess you had made of yourself. Within a year, you were a straight A student with a new husband from a wealthy family, and in her eyes, that was success.
You hadn’t thought so, but Youngsik had been kind to you, and so it was easy to let yourself love him. Though no amount of love from a good man could ever repair the scars left by the one person you hope never to see again.
And also the one person whose eyes you need on you the most, though you will only admit that to yourself in the dead of night, faced away from your husband in bed, staring out into the darkness of your bedroom. Right now, on a train packed full of people that are likely to remember your family name, you have to remain poised.
Once the train pulls into the station, you step into the role of a dutiful daughter, wife and mother, tugging your child along with you through the small train station. It’s early evening now, and the fog from the sea has begun to settle, a warm, wet humidity clinging to the air around you, almost suffocating you in its grasp. After so long in the suburbs of Seoul, it’s hard to readjust to the salty sea air that coats the inside of your lungs with a nostalgia you hadn’t even realised you were missing.
“Y/N,” A voice slashes through the silence and you turn your head to see your brother, Sangchul, waiting for you. He is much older now, a moustache shadowing his top lip. If you look closely, you can almost make out a feathering of grey hair at his temples and the worn smile lines that deepen as his eyes drift down, “And my little niece,”
“It’s been a long time,” You smile, though it fails to reach your eyes with the stark reminder of why you are here in the first place. Sangchul looks so much like your mother, it’s difficult to prevent the mist from coating your vision, and all at once you feel your brother’s arms wrap around you in a hug that would be out of character if the two of you weren't about to become motherless as well as fatherless.
Sangchul’s voice is gruff, and he squeezes you a little tighter when he speaks. You have a feeling it’s more for him than it is for you, however. “Too long,” he pulls back, eyes glassy, but piercing - so much like your mother, “It’s been four years since you last visited, Y/N,”
Sangchul scolding you is one of the many things you had expected when you stepped off the train, but it still stings, and once again you’re sent back to the past, feeling like the teenage sister who disobeyed his rules one too many times.
“I’m sorry, Sangie,” You say, though it’s hard to force the affection into your voice. Sangchul was never your favourite brother, but since Sungho’s passing, he is all you have left, “You know how hard it is for me to come back here,”
His frown only deepens, “I hope you aren’t comparing seeing your family with seeing that vermin,” even now, years later, you still flinch when Sangchul calls him that, “I don’t want you mentioning Jeon J - “
“Please don’t say his name,” You let out a shuddering breath, panic tightening your chest. You haven’t heard his name in seven years, and you need to keep it that way for as long as feasibly possible. You are here for your mother, and nothing else.
Sangchul seems satisfied with your reaction, if a little uncomfortable, but he makes a gruff sound, bending at the knee to greet your daughter before helping the two of you with your bags.
The view outside the car window is remarkably unchanged from your last visit, though your hesitancy to make any journeys out of your mother’s home meant you saw very little. With an intense fear of locking eyes with him, you’d travelled from the train station to your mother’s house, only leaving when you were due to get the train back two days later. The anxiety every visit back home brought you only meant you spent the last four years putting off visiting, until almost half a decade passed without you even realising.
By the time you pull up to the house, Junghee is almost fast asleep, her head lolling against your arm and Sangchul offers to take the bags so you can carry her up to her room. Formerly your room - now, you stay in the guest room, fit for you and your husband, though his absence won’t be felt much. Your family has only ever met Youngsik once, and that was at your wedding. Since then, your mother has either been too tired to travel or your husband has been too busy.
For some reason, their opinion of your husband has never bothered you, despite the trouble you have caused your family in the past regarding such matters. You never let yourself dwell on why that might be, too scared for what the conclusion might lead you to.
When you walk into your old bedroom, you’re instantly hit by a wave of familiar scents. As always, a bouquet of white roses sits on the windowsill, and you have to look away the moment your eyes land on them. You’re thankful that you won’t be staying in this room, aware already as you nestle Junghee under the blankets how difficult seeing it all is. So many memories come flooding back to you, and it’s only when you’ve put your daughter to bed and raise a hand to your cheek that you even notice the tears falling.
“It’s difficult,” Sangchul says, his sudden presence at the doorway startling you a little, “Mother is sleeping now. The doctor will be here in the morning, he comes by every day to check on her. I’ll wake you when he’s here,” he stands back, letting you leave the room, and suddenly you can breathe again, “Get some sleep, Y/N,”
He leaves you then, stood in the hallway with your arms wrapped around your waist, staring into your former bedroom and fighting off the debilitating need to sink into the past. You won’t let yourself, not now, not ever. Once you’re in the neutral space of the spare room, you sit onto the bed, swallowing a sleeping pill with a glass of water and sinking into the plush mattress.
When sleep comes, it gives you no reprieve from the memories that plague the outskirts of your mind, and when you awake just a few hours later, you can feel the sweat soaking the nape of your neck. This week was never going to be easy, but you realise that your delay in visiting may have just made things all the more challenging.
Falling back into sleep again, you don’t fight the memories this time, letting them come as they wish. It’s with a sigh of relief and a deep, longing ache in your chest that you fall into a deep slumber, drifting through images of dark eyes and even darker nights. Soft kisses, forbidden love and the one man you never let yourself think about.

Chapter 21/34 - eggs benedict
[Read on AO3]
Tumblr media
It’s strange, staying with Sheriff Adderly and his wife Ellen during this case in Vermont. If he had his way, he’d be checked into a motel instead of infringing on their hospitality, but he’d been given no choice. They even refused reimbursement for their troubles, which did nothing to lessen the feeling—however true or untrue it was—of him being a burden to them.
Ellen Adderly had pulled out all the stops for their guest, preparing decadent meals on fine china for every meal, claiming she’d have done it whether he was there or not. He has a hard time believing that. He can’t imagine living in such a way every day of his life. He and Scully barely manage to set out real plates to eat on when they order takeout at home, and he certainly doesn’t expect her to have a three course meal set out when he gets back from work. Besides the fact that she’s always at work with him, it’s just not something he thinks is necessary. Is that something she’d want to do? He doesn’t think so.
The routine they have works for them, that’s all that matters.
But after getting a taste of his own personal brand of domesticity, it’s… odd… to see how others do it. He’d never have thought there were so many different ways to balance home life, much less enough that he’d start to form an opinion on them. His parents had been one way—not a particularly healthy relationship—and he and Scully are… well, they’re not really anything besides roommates, but that still counts, in his book.
Whatever they are, he likes it. Far better than this constant fussing, at least.
Mrs. Adderly must notice his discomfort, because at breakfast as she masterfully puts the finishing touches on his eggs benedict, she says “I get the feeling you're not used to anyone taking care of you,” and for some reason, that assumption grates on his nerves.
He takes a measured draw from his cup of steaming coffee, swallowing back his immediate retort.
“What makes you say that?” he asks instead. She probably hadn’t meant anything by it, but it still comes off as rude. He has someone to take care of him, thanks very much. Just not exactly in the same way as Mrs. Adderly insists on taking care of her husband… and apparently Mulder too.
“I’m sorry,” Ellen says, realizing her statement had come out somewhat offensive. “I just mean… I didn’t see a wedding band.”
She nods at his left hand sitting atop the table, and he follows her gaze to the bare ring finger.
“Do you have a significant other, Agent Mulder?” she asks.
Significant? Yes. Very. Other? That’s a good descriptor. Single, married, other. Yeah, he’d select other, if this were a multiple choice question. Although he’s pretty sure that’s not what she meant.
“I’ve– um…” he starts, wondering how best to describe his situation to this woman. “I’ve got a wife, actually.” He pulls out the ring on its chain to show her. “It can be dangerous in my line of work to have it on display,” he explains lamely before tucking it back into his shirt.
Ellen smiles. “Ah, well that’s good. Don't miss out on home and family, Mr. Mulder. I imagine with all the things you see, you need that refuge more than most.”
Her words hang in the air, a bit of sage advice from a woman he otherwise has very little in common with. But before he really has a chance to think about what she’s said, Sheriff Adderly makes an appearance, and it’s back to business. Ellen excuses herself to go check on their daughter, leaving the two of them alone to discuss the case.
Mulder remains seated at the table, staring down the sheriff with a knowing look. He’d begun to suspect—and now his suspicions are all but confirmed—that the man had been unfaithful to his wife, and it makes him feel sick. Here this man has it all; a loving wife, a sweet baby that they didn’t have to jump through a million hoops to get, and yet he’s willing to throw it all away for some cheap thrills.
He’ll never understand it.
The man is no more forthcoming about his knowledge of the case than he had been before, so Mulder lets it slide for now. The last thing he wants to do is show all his cards too early and spook him. He gives him just enough to leave him rattled. To let him know that he knows .
He lets the unspoken threat hang between them until the sheriff folds, squirming away to take a shower, or so he says.
He’s still seething in bitter disgust when Ellen returns, carrying her sleepy baby in her arms. It’s a well-practiced juggling act, Mulder can tell, as she goes about fixing herself a plate of her now lukewarm breakfast. With only one arm, she clearly struggles to transfer strips of bacon out of the pan, and Mulder gets to his feet.
“Here, let me help,” he says, joining her in the kitchen. What he’d meant was that he could help assemble her plate, but as he goes to reach for the spatula, he instead finds himself being handed a baby, and his eyes widen comically. “Oh, right,” he says, then plasters a forced smile on his face. Sure, this was what he’d meant to do all along.
The little girl is heavier than he’d expected. Like a sack of flour, though with limbs jutting out everywhere. It takes him a moment to adjust, his hands holding her awkwardly beneath the armpits.
“Hi,” he says conversationally, looking down at her like she’s a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment. The baby just blinks at him, a blank stare on her face. “Okay,” he mutters to himself, lifting her to his hip and returning to the table. He makes every effort to not look like this isn’t the first time he’s held a baby in—well, basically forever, but he’s not sure he succeeds.
Ellen smiles across the table at him and digs into her meal.
“Do you have children, Agent Mulder?” she asks, “You and your wife?”
It still makes his heart flutter to hear someone refer to Scully as such, but he supposes that to Ellen, it really is that simple. Scully is his wife, that’s all she knows.
He’d always thought conversations like this to be so dull. ‘So, Dave, how’s the ol’ ball and chain? Kids staying out of trouble?’  But, now…
Well, it’s different now that he actually has something to contribute to the discussion.
“Yeah, actually, one on the way,” he says, giving a self-conscious little smile.
He’s never told anybody about this other than Skinner, but he supposes there’s no harm in telling this random woman in Vermont. It almost makes him feel… normal. Like he can relate to other people over the simple fact of his impending fatherhood. A shared human experience. A milestone in his life that doesn’t involve aliens, ghosts, ghouls, or any manner of cryptozoological entity.
“We’re adopting,” he further explains. “Only a couple months left till the birth mother’s due date.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful!” Ellen exclaims, smiling up at him over her bowl of fresh fruit. “You must be so excited!”
“Very,” he says, looking down at the drooling baby on his lap. “We never really thought it was possible. That we’d ever—”
He pauses, the shrill tone of his cell phone breaking into their conversation.
“Speaking of my wife,” he says, flipping open the device. “Hey, Scully. How’s the stakeout going?”
Her voice crackles over the other side of the line, drawing a genuine smile out of him. “I’m going to pretend you didn’t ask that, Mulder, so that I can give you the good news I just received.”
His stomach does a flip. “Good news?”
He pictures her nodding, sitting in that grimy, cold room surrounded by surveillance equipment, somehow brightening it with her smile. “Krista called and we had a little chat.”
Mulder looks up at Ellen from across the table, where she’s watching him with a knowing smile. “Oh?” he says.
“Mm-hmm. And you know what she told me?”
Scully is extra cheeky this morning, huh? He misses her horribly. This is the last time he’s letting Skinner split them up for a case. After this, no more. He’s putting his foot down. What are they going to do, fire him?
“What did she tell you?” he asks, turning to instead stare at the floorboards, giving himself the illusion of privacy despite the constant watch of Mrs. Adderly.
“She told me the sex of the baby. Would you like to know?”
His heart thumps in his chest suddenly, its rhythm erratic. This, he hadn’t expected first thing in the morning. He hasn’t even finished his first cup of coffee yet.
“She finally found out?”
“Yeah, Krista said she was a lot more cooperative at this appointment than the last one,” Scully explains.
Mulder freezes.
“She?” he says, his voice raspy with awe. “It’s a girl?”
He hears Scully release a shuddering breath before her voice comes back, with all the telltale signs of happy tears that he’s come to recognize in the last few months.
“It’s a girl,” she confirms.
It’s a girl. He’s gonna have a baby girl.
“That’s– that’s amazing, Scully! That’s… wow!”
“I know,” she says. “I’m– You’re not disappointed, are you?”
“Disappointed?” he asks, furrowing his brow. “Why would I be disappointed?”
Disappointed is the absolute last thing he’d be feeling right now. Elated is a better word. Maybe a little scared, but he’ll get over it.
“I don’t know, I just thought… You know, you talked about coaching little league, and I’m sure you want someone to watch basketball with you…”
He laughs. He can’t help but laugh. “Just because you don’t like basketball doesn’t mean other girls don’t,” he says matter-of-factly. “And have you seen girls softball teams, Scully? They’re brutal. You try getting hit by one of those giant neon yellow ostrich eggs at 50 miles an hour. I volunteered to practice with the girls once in high school. Almost lost an eye.”
“But what if she doesn’t like sports at all?” Scully asks, and he’d bet good money that she’s chewing on her lip right now, the way she does when she’s worried. “What if she’s on the chess team or plays the violin or the piano?”
Oh, Scully.
“Then I’ll learn all the names of her concertos and cheer her on at every chess tournament,” he answers simply. “Look, Scully, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but you and I are both gigantic nerds. I think we’ll be prepared for whatever she’s interested in when she gets older.”
She . They can finally stop talking about her in abstract terms. A girl. A daughter.
“Your mom’s gonna flip,” he says when she doesn’t respond. Margaret Scully has a grandson, but no granddaughter. He can just see the little plaid dresses, frilly socks, Mary Jane shoes, and giant velvet bows in their future. She’ll be spoiled rotten.
“I can’t wait to meet her,” Scully says, sounding wistful.
“Me too,” he agrees. “When I get back, we’re going out shopping again. I think maybe this time I’ll be able to hold it together in the clothes section.”
That earns him a laugh.
“I’m willing to bet it will go the same way as last time,” she teases back, and she’s probably not wrong. Just picturing this baby, a little girl like the one he’s holding now, has him emotionally on edge.
“I– I’ll talk to you later, okay?” he says, glancing up at the clock. “Let the thought of warm baby snuggles keep you from freezing your butt off.”
She sighs, the annoyance of her less than ideal assignment returning. “Thanks for reminding me, ” she intones.
They stay on the line a moment more, waiting to see who will be the one to hang up. Eventually he hears a soft click, and he smiles down at the phone in his hand. Goodbyes have never been necessary between them. Maybe that’s just another way they’re weird, but he likes it.
The baby in his lap gurgles, and he sets his phone on the table to turn his attention back to her. He sees her differently now, with the knowledge that he has a little girl on the way too.
“You’re going to be an amazing father,” Ellen says, eyes shining as she watches him.
Mulder feels his cheeks beginning to burn. “Oh. Thanks.”
“No, really,” she says more insistently. “You seem to care a lot already. And wanting to be involved… Well, that’s everything. Your wife is a very lucky woman.”
“I’m the one who’s lucky,” he says, and he truly believes it.
He’s the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.

Chapter 22/34 - pizza boxes
Tumblr media
The sound of keyboards clacking fills the dimly-lit room. A greasy bag that once held at least a dozen cheap tacos from the place across town sits atop a stack of empty pizza boxes, not that the inhabitants of this particular abode pay much attention to that kind of thing.
“Hey, here's something weird,” Langly says, looking up from the computer monitor, the unnatural light of it reflecting off his glasses.
“What? Is it Krycek again?” Frohike asks, crossing the short distance to lean over the other man’s shoulder. “What’s that little rat up to now?”
Langly adjusts the bright, warm-toned desk lamp to minimize the glare on the screen.
“No, just something strange in my sweep of government records,” he says.
“Mention of a virus? Shadow government stuff?”
Langly shakes his head. “It flagged a document mentioning Mulder and Scully's names.”
This bit of information piques Byers’ interest from across the room. “What agency? Homeland? DoD?” he asks, joining the other two at Langly’s computer.
“County court in Annapolis, Maryland,” Langly reads off the screen. “Dated December 24, 1999.”
“Open it!” Frohike demands impatiently.
It takes only a few seconds to hack the database, which is a little alarming. What would the public think if they knew how insecure county records are? But that’s a concern for another day.
The document slowly appears on screen, and three pairs of eyes take in the information all at once.
“That's… unexpected,” Byers says.
“Married? Since when?” Frohike exclaims.
Langly looks up at him with a condescending glare and smacks the older man in the stomach. “Since Christmas, idiot, haven't you been paying attention?”
“Not that, stupid,” Frohike says, quick to respond with a slap to the back of the blond man’s shaggy head. “Since when are they an item? Did I miss something?”
“You seen a rock on her finger lately? I haven't,” Langly comments.
“Get Mulder on the phone, that little sneak owes us an explanation!” Frohike snaps, pointing a finger at Byers.
The phone rings a few times before it connects, the voice of their friend coming through on speakerphone.
“Now's not a good time, boys,” he says. There's some kind of noise in the background, someone speaking, but they can’t make out who it is. It doesn’t sound like anyone they know.
“Mulder!” Frohike yells into the phone. “What gives, man?!”
“Yeah, bro, we'd have thrown you a bachelor party if we'd known,” Langly adds.
A sigh crackles through on the other end of the line, and Mulder murmurs something indistinguishable to someone before finding somewhere quieter to talk.
“How'd you find out?” he asks, sounding annoyed.
“Your marriage license record came up in one of our regular sweeps. No other threats, by the way,” Byers answers.
“Except maybe Frohike,” Langly jokes. “He might want to challenge you for her hand.”
Byers snickers.
“Shut up! I'm happy for them,” Frohike says, glaring at his friends.
Langly rolls his eyes. “You never stood a chance.”
“There's an explanation for this, I swear, now's just really not a good time,” Mulder says, insistent.
“What's there to explain?” Frohike asks. “You guys fell in love and got married without telling your best friends. No big deal.”
He’s not genuinely trying to guilt trip Mulder, but it does sting a little that they hadn’t said anything to them. Maybe just a little tiny guilt trip. A guilt excursion, if you will.
“It's not… really that simple,” Mulder says, his words hesitant.
“What do you mean?” Byers asks.
“I know you didn't knock her up, obviously, so what more is there?” Langly says, as delicate as a brick to the face.
“Well,” Mulder says, “I kind of did, in a manner of speaking.”
“Scully's pregnant?” Byers asks. This is shocking news. It should be impossible! “But—”
“No, Scully's not pregnant,” Mulder quickly corrects before the conversation can spiral out of control more than it already has. “But… we are expecting, actually. Hopefully.”
“IVF?” Byers asks.
“Not IVF. We tried that last year though, you're a little late to the party.”
Jeez, what haven’t they missed? Maybe the real conspiracy is whatever the heck is going on with Mulder and Scully.
“Then, what—?”
“We're adopting,” he says, interrupting them. They can almost hear his smile over the phone, all goofy and care-free. “There's a woman that selected us to adopt her baby when she’s born, so… I'm actually at this class for new parents with Scully right now. I should probably be getting back. Don't want the teacher to flunk me.”
“Wait wait wait,” Frohike says. “Adopting? How long have you guys been… you know?”
“Well we only started talking about it back in November. It's honestly moving pretty fast, but we're excited.”
“Not that,” Frohike says, waving his hands in the air. “You and Scully!”
“Oh,” Mulder says awkwardly. “Um, we actually aren't. A couple, I mean. If that's what you're asking.”
Frohike’s jaw drops. “You're kidding.”
“No, I'm not.”
“But you're married!” Langly insists.
“A formality.”
“The IVF!”
“Favor for a friend.”
“Yeah, right!” Frohike says with a laugh, sharing a disbelieving look with the other Gunmen.
“You love her, don't you?” Byers asks, sincerity breaking through his friends’ incredulity.
“If you're just gonna harass me, I'm going to hang up.”
Okay, so he’s done sharing for now. They’ll just have to try to get more out of him later.
“Mulder… what are we going to do with you?” Frohike asks, shaking his head.
“Listen, guys, I've got to go. We're learning how to change a diaper and I'd really like to not make a fool of myself, if at all possible.”
“Wait,” Frohike says. “Tell Scully congrats for us. We're happy for you, Mulder.”
“Yeah, we just think you're a complete idiot too,” Langly adds bluntly.
“Thanks, guys. We're really happy. Sorry I haven't been around, it's been crazy.”
Well, now at least they know why Mulder has been missing their poker nights and D&D lately.
“Don't worry about it, Mulder. Just—maybe tell us what's going on next time?” Byers suggests.
Mulder puffs out a laugh. “Sure, next time I marry my partner with the purpose of adopting a child, I'll let you know.”
Frohike points seriously at the phone, despite the fact that Mulder can’t see it. “Watch it, buddy, you're already on thin ice.”
“I'll talk to you guys soon,” Mulder says. “Oh, and if you're ever looking for me, I'm staying at Scully’s apartment now, by the way. I gave up my apartment.”
“Dude…” Langly says. There's something seriously wrong with those two.
“Alright, I gotta go. I'll tell Scully you say hi.” And with that, he hangs up, leaving the three amigos to take in everything they’d just learned.
“Aren't a couple…” Frohike grumbles, repeating his words. “They're a couple of idiots, I'll tell you that.”
Byers nods his agreement, and Langly shrugs.
“Lucky kid, though.”

6 years ago, your sister gave birth to the most gorgeous little human being you’ve ever seen. She was the reason why you became an aunt. You love your niece with all your heart, promising to be there beside her every step of the way. Reason being the guy who got your sister pregnant who is supposedly her boyfriend of 3 years, had chosen to abandon his responsibilities as a father when he found out she was carrying his child. You were beyond furious with him to the point where you actually went down to his apartment to curse the fuck out of him.
After your niece was born, you made sure that you were there with her as she grew up. She was the reason why you look forward to living everyday. There wasn’t a day where you didn’t spend time with her. When you were in college, you worked as a part time barista to pay off your school fees and monthly expenses on food and stuff. The extra money you had was spent on her toys, snacks, food, anything that would make her happy and lessen your sister’s burden in a way.
She is a single mom after all so it’s only right for you to help out with whatever you can. Whenever your sister has to work or is busy with something, you’re always there to help her out no matter how tired or busy you are. A few years following her birth, your sister had saved enough money to rent an apartment solely for her and her daughter, Lucy.
As much as she was thankful that your parents were okay with having her and Lucy live in your family home, your sister wanted to move out because your parents were already old and she didn’t want to burden them even more. Taking care of two kids was already enough for them. Therefore, your sister rented a place not too far from your campus. During the first three years after you graduated high school, you were still living with your parents.
When you finally saved enough money, that’s when you moved out and rented an apartment that was just a 15 minutes walk from your sister’s place. It was way easier to travel back and forth to look after Lucy and spend time with her ever since.
Sometimes you would go to their place, sometimes they would come to your place. You are pretty close with your sister. You loved her unconditionally so to see her go through parenthood alone, it definitely breaks your heart but you also see how strong she is. Not many people can do this and yet, here she is. You are beyond proud of her.
It’s been 7 years since you graduated high school and you are now a working adult. You are working under a pretty well known company. Your job is stressful but most of the time, you have very codependent team members whom you work well with. You are thankful that your team is a bunch of nice people who you can bond with. The team has a total of 5 people and you’re all really good friends with each other. There was Jieun, who is your team leader, Yoongi, Taehyung, Yeji and yourself.
You have been working with this company and the team for almost 2 years now and you’re still grateful for it till today. Whenever you’re having a whole load of work stress, they’re always there to relieve it. Even your sister knows them because of how often you tell her about them.
However a few months ago, your CEO announced that they were starting this new production line which will be a test to see how well the sales are. If it goes well, they will launch the product for good and put it out on the market. Your job was to keep an eye on the sales and calculate the financial impact of the product. It’s stressful but at least you have a team working with you on it.
Due to this new project, you had to OT more often every week and this has led to you only seeing Lucy on weekends and less on weekdays. It sucks that you have to spend less time with your niece but at least you still see her on weekends.
It was a Saturday afternoon and you promised to bring Lucy to the mall. So it was Lucy, your sister and yourself who are going to the mall to hang out for the day. Jisoo drove so she placed Lucy in her baby chair at the back seat while you sat in front with your sister. Lucy was sleeping so you had this time to have a private chat with Jisoo about life and work. A year ago, you were dating someone you met at university. He was two years younger than you and everything was going well with him.
He was your person.
Unfortunately, with the accumulating fights and disagreements began to slowly build up at one point, a huge argument happened one day and both of you decided to break things off after realizing that it might never work. Both of you had very different perceptions of things and could never come together as one. Therefore, that was the only logical thing to do and this all happened just over 2 months ago.
“I haven’t heard about him in a while. Lucy asked me about him recently too.” Jisoo said, only for you to stare blankly into the dashboard.
It took you a while to reply but when you did, you had to take a deep breath first and said, “We broke up…” Your sister glanced at you briefly but made sure to keep her focus on the road.
“When?”
“2 months ago, give or take…” You said quietly to avoid waking Lucy up.
“I’m sorry.” She said, making you shake your head.
“No, it’s fine. I just feel like we’re too different and we’re no longer compatible with each other. So I didn’t wanna waste my time pining over someone who doesn’t wanna work together.”
“Well, I guess you did the right thing then… What are you gonna tell her though?” Jisoo asked as you glanced at the back seat to find Lucy sleeping.
“I won’t say anything to her until she asks me about him, I guess…”
“Yeah, I think it’s best if she hears it from you instead of me.” Jisoo said. You agreed with her decision because it’s your life so you should be the one sharing, not her. Just then, she changes the topic to avoid the awkward atmosphere about your ex boyfriend.
“By the way, I know I should’ve told you sooner but a few weeks after you started to get busy with your OTs, I started to keep getting night shifts so I decided to hire a babysitter. It’s been a month now. And guess what?”
“What?”
“Lucy loves him! She adores him so much, it’s literally so adorable.”
“Wait a minute… Your babysitter is a guy?” You asked in disbelief.
“Yeah. Young and handsome too.” She said with a cheeky wink, causing you to gag. Your sister then scoffs at your reaction to defend herself before you get the wrong idea.
“Not for me, you fool. I’m telling you that he’s young and handsome.” She smirked teasingly to which you rolled your eyes.
“How young? And I don’t trust your tastebuds.”
“Rude. Look, he’s your age and I’m telling you… He is drop dead gorgeous.” She said but all you did was brush her off.
You still won’t believe her until you see him for yourself. Only then will you agree with whether he’s handsome or not.
You changed the topic again, not wanting to wake Lucy up as Jisoo finally pulls into the mall car park. All three of you got out of the car once it was properly parked and made your way into the mall. You spend almost half a day there, grabbing lunch, going to the clothing store to shop for your things, going to a toy store to buy Lucy new toys and plushies, going to watch a new cartoon movie in the cinema.
All in all, it was a very good day well spent with Lucy after a stressful week at work. Unfortunately, your day was being cut short when your sister got a last minute call from her senior nurse telling her to come down tonight to cover a shift for her colleague who took an urgent leave. You were pissed because today was supposed to be Jisoo’s day off but there’s nothing much you can say. Even if you told your sister to tell them it’s her day off, she would still go down to cover the shift.
Which is why you were now at her apartment to keep Lucy company for the night while your sister left for work. After she left, you showered Lucy and prepared her dinner. You were just feeding her dinner in the living room when she came to you with a sketchbook filled with drawings.
“Wow, did you draw these?” You asked as she sat in your lap to flip through the pages.
“Yeah! But Uncle Minie drew some of it!” She said, making you wonder if that was the name of her babysitter.
“Is Uncle Minie a good person?”
“He is! He’s very nice to me and mommy.”
“Mmm, you must really like him then, don’t you?” You said and as a result, she giggled adorably in your lap.
“I do! You have to meet him… I think you will like him too, Auntie Y/N!” She said so all you could do was smile. You continued to play with her after dinner until she grew tired so you could tuck her into bed. When she was finally asleep, you cleaned up the house a little before taking a shower and went to bed.

Almost a month has passed since you last saw Lucy and your sister. Work got very hectic and your schedule has been pretty off lately. You had to work on weekends for the past few weeks and it was mentally draining. The project has been a success recently which is why you had to work extra everyday but your schedule was starting to simmer down and was now proceeding to launch it for real and properly this time. Nevertheless, it has been really tiring for you but thankfully you had your team with you to motivate each other and give words of encouragement to one another.
It was a Friday evening and you decided to surprise Lucy and your sister tonight after not seeing them for so long. Before heading over to their place though, you didn’t forget to stop by Lucy’s favourite fast food restaurant to get her french fries. It was her ultimate favourite snack that she would never fail to ask for whenever you brought her out or came over to the house. You bought extra food so everyone could eat, including the babysitter just in case he was hungry.
It didn’t take long to arrive at your sister’s apartment so when you made it in front of her door, you gave it a few knocks and waited patiently for someone to open it. The one who ended up greeting you at the door was Lucy.
“Hi baby!” You said as she hugged your hips tightly with his small dainty arms.
“How are you, my favourite niece?” You asked as she let go of your hips to let you walk in. You closed the door behind you as Jisoo came out from the kitchen with her uniform already worn.
“I’m good, auntie!” Lucy said, making you kiss the top of your head before holding out the bags of food in your hand.
“I bought all of us dinner. And I bought you fries, Lucy!”
“Yay!” She cheered as she ran off and disappeared into the living room.
“What time are you leaving for work?” You asked as your sister took the bags from you while you took off your heels by the door.
“Soon. I have to come early tonight because one of the nurses took an urgent leave.” She said.
“Eat something first at least before you go. Don’t delay your dinner.” You scolded her while she quietly took out the fries from the bag. You helped her take a plastic plate from the cabinet, passing it to her. She then took out a handful of fries and placed it on the plate before you took it and brought it to the living room where Lucy was playing with her dolls.
“Lucy, auntie will put your fries here okay?” You said as she ran over to take one and put it in her mouth while excitedly thanking you. Just when you turn to go back to the kitchen, a figure comes out of the hallway only to stop dead in his tracks. His eyes were completely wide from shock.
“Changmin? What are you doing here?” His name slips off your tongue naturally as your sister looks back and forth between you and Changmin. He was speechless and so were you until Lucy ran up to his side and held his hand in hers with a bright smile.
“Auntie, how do you know Uncle Minie? Is he your boyfriend too?” Lucy asked as you glanced over to your sister and then to Changmin. He was still staring at you quietly but his eyes were no longer wide so you looked at Lucy and smiled.
“H-He’s just an old friend, who happens to be a boy. Not my boyfriend.” You explained to her while she let go of his arm and hops over to you when you gestured her to come to you.
“Who is your boyfriend then?” She asked, to which you kneeled down beside the coffee table while you pulled her into your lap.
“Remember Uncle Sunwoo?”
“The one who gave me the stitch soft toy?” She asked and you smiled at her.
“Yes. Do you remember him?”
“I do!”
“That was my boyfriend.” You said while gently cupping her cheek.
“Why isn’t Uncle Sunu here today?” She asked, only for you to accidentally glance up to find Changmin staring at you quietly with no particular expression on his face.
“Because he’s no longer my boyfriend anymore, that’s why he’s not here. But it’s okay, you have Uncle Changmin now right? I heard you like Uncle Changmin a lot.” You asked, only for her to giggle and point to him with a bright smile on her face.
“Yes! I like Uncle Minie!” She said. After you’ve let go of her, she runs back to him only to bring him to her play area in front of the tv.
You’ve known Changmin since kindergarten and high school. You used to bicker with him a lot and because he was your classmate, all the more reason for you to fight with him almost everyday. As much as you don’t like him at the time, you don’t consider him your enemy though. It’s not like you despise him or anything as a person. Sure he’s sort of similar to you in terms of being introverts but other than that, he’s too much of a weirdo to actually understand how he sees things when he was younger. Therefore, the endless amount of arguments with him. And after graduating, you never saw him again.
You went back into the kitchen to help pack the food for your sister, making sure she wouldn’t starve at work knowing how she is when she’s stressed or is thinking too much about things she chooses not to share with anyone. So when you placed the bag of burger and fries in her smaller lunch bag, you reminded her to eat when she’s having her break time and to not skip her meals during work. You then walked with her to the front door only to call Lucy over.
“Lucy, your mommy’s going to work.”
“Okay! Bye mommy!” She said as she ran to your sister to give her a hug and kiss. You were just watching them when Changmin’s voice sounded softly from behind you.
“Didn’t expect to see you again.” He said.
“Me too… Didn’t take you for a babysitter.”
“This is just a past time thing…”
“But you babysit her almost everyday.”
“Because I like her.” Upon hearing his words, this made you whip your head to him with a frown.
“My sister or my niece?” You narrowed your eyes at him.
“What do you think? Not gonna lie though, your sister’s pretty hot.” That’s when you slapped his arm and glared at him.
“My sister is off limits you pervert.” You scolded him, only for him to cackle.
“Fine. What about her sister then? Is she off limits too?” It took you a while to realise what he was saying and before you could even reply to him, Lucy was already rushing to you and waving to her mother.
“Bye sis.” You smiled as you gestured to Lucy to follow Changmin while you went to lock the front door. You came back to the living room to find Changmin teasing her by stealing her fries. You’ve never seen this side of him. Who knew Changmin of all people would be this good to a child especially considering he’s the youngest in his family.
About an hour or so later after you’ve showered and changed into your pyjamas since you’ve already planned to sleep over, you came back out to find Lucy curled up in Changmin’s lap on the couch. Paw Patrol was playing on the screen but it seemed like no one was really watching. You carefully walked closer to find Changmin patting her to sleep in his arms. He saw you from the corner of his eye so he glanced over his shoulder with a small smirk on his face.
“I think she’s in love with me.” He said, making you roll your eyes at him.
“I doubt that.” You walked over to kneel in front of his legs only to gently cup her face.
“Darling, come on. Let’s get you to bed.” You softly said as she stirred awake.
“Are you sleeping here tonight?” She asked tiredly while her tiny head was still against his chest.
“Yes, darling.”
Just then, Lucy looked up at Changmin and asked, “Are you sleeping here too?”
Changmin couldn’t help but glance over to you for a brief second before answering her, “I don’t have to sleep over tonight since your Auntie Y/N is here.” He said but she instantly whined.
“But… I want both of you here.” She said, making you stunned. Both Changmin and you exchanged looks for a second as if to figure out what to say but he beat you to it.
“Alright then. Uncle Min will stay with you and Auntie Y/N, okay?”
“Okay.” She giggled tiredly as she opened her arms to you so you took her onto your waist and carried her to her room. Once you’ve tucked her in, you sang her to sleep. Her favourite lullaby that apparently, only you and Changmin can sing for her. Lucy wouldn’t let your sister sing for her. She would ask your sister to read her a bedtime story instead. You made sure she was already fast asleep before you kissed her forehead and left the bedroom door slightly ajar. You came back outside to find Changmin cleaning up the mess she made with her toys.
While he was doing that, you cleared the kitchen by putting the leftover food in the fridge and throwing away whatever is deemed as trash. Both of you were working in silence, never once talking to each other. After you finished cleaning the kitchen, you went to the living room to find it empty. Changmin must’ve gone inside to sleep so you let out a soft sigh of relief. About half an hour later, you were just watching a tv series on netflix when soft footsteps came approaching you from behind. Before you could turn, Changmin came into your peripheral vision and sat down next to you.
“Why aren’t you asleep?” He asked as a strong whiff of vanilla filled your nostrils. It must be the body wash you saw in the bathroom.
“I could ask you the same question.” You said, earning a click of his tongue.
“I’m not sleepy yet. Your turn.”
“I need a break before I do a bit of work.” You said and he finally turns to you with a frown. You looked at him and gave him a shrug of your shoulders, “What?”
“It’s already after hours… What work do you possibly have to do?” He asked only for you to sigh.
“My work… You wouldn’t know.” You ended off in a whisper while turning your focus back to the tv. A few minutes later, Changmin excused himself quietly without telling you where he was going. Not like you cared or anything. So when you realised he never came back out after an hour, you guessed he was asleep. You stayed up till 4 in the morning just working on the upcoming project you had with the company’s sales.
You were doing your work at the kitchen island with your back facing the hallway. At one point during the night, Changmin left the guest room to go to the bathroom. He saw you seated on the stool with fingers tangled in your hair. He was curious to know what work you had to do that made you stay up all night but he wasn’t going to ask. He saw that it was nearing 4am and it kind of worried him a little. Changmin knew how tiring and mentally draining it is to stay up late to do work so he could only hope you’ll get the rest you deserve.
Tumblr media
Days began to pass by fast, making sure to visit your sister’s house a few times a week on days where you weren’t working overtime so that you could spend time with Lucy again. It’s been over three months now and you’ve been to their house almost every week now. Of course not everyday since the project was still going on. And in all the times you came over, Changmin was always around. There are times when he’s oddly nice and kind to you, never once picking on you. Other times he was always being a little ass to you briefly so Lucy doesn’t catch on.
One thing’s for sure, Changmin has never really said something that made you absolutely pissed before so that’s good in a way. It was a Thursday evening and you made it to your sister’s apartment a few minutes after she left. You had to stay at the office for a bit and she had to leave early due to an emergency. Therefore, you didn’t get the chance to meet her. However, it’s okay because you still went over to spend time with Lucy.
You brought cakes for dessert, knowing she loves the strawberry shortcakes that were sold at a nearby cafe. When you reached their doorstep, you gave it a few knocks, only to hear her high pitched voices and soft footsteps rushing towards the door.
“Auntie!” She exclaimed excitedly as she carefully tiptoed to grab onto the door handle. But before she would accidentally wedge her toes under the door, Changmin was quick to hold onto the side of the door while gently telling her to step away from it.
With that being said, she hopped to the side only to hug your leg so you wrapped your arm around her hip and carried her up with one arm while the other was holding onto the bag of cakes. Changmin closed the door while you took off your shoes, only to feel him take the bag from you quietly and bring it to the kitchen. This allows you to properly hug Lucy and playfully swing her around as she laughs against your chest. You then placed her down on her feet, running back to her toys in the living room.
Changmin was just staring at the cakes so you couldn’t help but giggle softly at his sim-like behaviour and asked, “Why are you just staring blankly at the cakes? Is there something wrong with it?”
“No… I just, I’m trying to figure out which cake is Lucy’s.” Changmin said as you came to stand beside him.
“Make a guess.” You said. It took him 3 tries but when he finally got it, he decided to act smug about it like he was just trying to test you.
“I knew which one she liked. I just wanted to see if you knew.” Changmin said, making you mock him with a laugh. He made a silly face to you while rolling his eyes, earning a soft slap to his chest before calling for your niece. She came over to you and was utterly surprised upon seeing her favourite cake.
“Is this mine?” She asked excitedly, making you nod.
“Yeah! Do you want me to feed you or do you wanna eat it on your own?”
“Hmm… I want Uncle Minie to feed me.” She giggled while sticking her tongue out the side of her mouth teasingly. You faked a shocked face and soon pretended to get upset.
“Do you like Uncle Minie more or Auntie more?” You asked.
“Uncle Minie.” Lucy said with a laugh and that was it. You wanted to get back at her for choosing an outsider over yourself. Of course this was all just for fun and games, you weren’t actually this petty. However, while all this was happening, Changmin was actually enjoying this scene in front of him where you were having a playful banter with your niece. He was almost adoring you in a way where nobody else would realise unless someone was there to see his reaction live.
“Fine. Then you can’t have Uncle Minie. He’s mine.” You said as you stood in front of Changmin to shield her from him. Lucy laughed as she tried to go to the side but you followed her to block her. She was laughing till her heart’s content, failing to get to her babysitter who was all the while just standing there with the most fondest smile on his face.
Just when Lucy was holding your hands to apologise for choosing him instead of you, the pair of warm hands sliding over your waist and around your front was enough to catch you off guard as you accidentally crashed backwards into Changmin’s chest.
“Lucy ah, if you want uncle Minie, you have to want auntie Y/N too or else she’s gonna be very sad. Okay?” Changmin said as you tried so desperately hard not to turn your head because if you did, the chances of accidentally kissing him is very high. Not that you wouldn’t want that to be honest. But at least not right now. So with that being said, Lucy giggled and she quickly apologised to you before hugging you. Changmin had already pulled away from you but he was so tempted to keep his arms around you.
After you’ve kissed the top of her head, Changmin held her hand and brought her to the front to play and eat before she went to bed. All the while, you helped to tidy the house a little so that your sister wouldn’t have to do much cleaning when she gets home from work tomorrow. Hours later, you had just put Lucy to bed and so it was time for you to leave since you’re working tomorrow.
You came back out to find Changmin just finished cleaning up her scattered toys and putting them back in her basket. He stood up and immediately locked eyes with you, feeling something tickle your stomach.
“You’re not staying?” He spoke up first while he slowly approached you.
“I have work tomorrow. I have to come early and stay late to finish up the quotas for the project.” You sighed, watching as he stopped right in front of you. All you needed to do was stretch your arms out, grab his shirt and pull him in but of course you’re not gonna do that.
“So I’m assuming that you won’t be stopping by tomorrow evening?” He asked.
“Probably not… Why? Are you gonna miss me?” You couldn’t help but ask as a smirk slowly creeps onto your face.
“Miss you? I think you’re delusional, babe.”
“Am I?” You asked, seeing the way his eyes grew a tad larger for just a split second before it shrunk back to his original size.
“I’d miss you any day.” Changmin teased you back, now you’re the one who’s speechless. He laughed at your reaction, thinking you were hella cute as he watched you take your work bag and was making your way straight to the door. You left without another word said to him, hearing his cackle grow softer the minute the door was shut. As soon as Changmin had locked the doors and was making his way back into the apartment, he caught Lucy standing in the middle of the hallway just tiredly rubbing her eyes and was slightly groggy.
“Where did auntie go?” She asked so he carefully walked to her and carried her onto his waist to bring her back to her room.
“Auntie has to go home, darling. She has to work tomorrow.” Changmin gently explained to her while laying her back onto her bed and pulling the blankets over.
“Uncle Min?”
“Yes baby?”
“Do you like my auntie?” Lucy asked as she yawned but was patiently waiting for his answer. Changmin took no less than a minute to answer her question easily in a heartbeat.
“Yes I do. I like your auntie… I like her a lot.”
“You should tell her. I like you with my auntie a lot too.” She said as she slowly fell asleep again. Changmin unconsciously smiled, remembering this conversation. He definitely wasn’t lying to her about how he feels about you.
If only he can tell you…

A week has passed, as usual, your sister was working a night shift today and Changmin would be at her place to look after Lucy. Since it was a Friday evening, you were okay with sleeping over at your sister’s place since you’re not working tomorrow. So when you went there, everyone was present in the house. However, there is a new individual who is in the house and he was playing with Lucy while Changmin and your sister were in the kitchen preparing Lucy’s dinner.
“Hey! I’m here.” You said after Lucy greeted you at the door. Once you’ve taken off your heels, you made your way further into the house only to lock eyes with the new guy who soon stood up to greet you.
“Hello? I’m sorry but I don’t think I’ve met you before. You are?” You asked politely as he let out an awkward laugh and responded to your question nicely.
“I’m Heegeun. Jisoo’s uh… friend.” He smiled and you could tell he was lying but you never pry any further.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m her younger sister, Y/N.” You said before making your way into the kitchen. She was practically hiding behind Changmin so you pinched her side softly in annoyance.
“He’s not just your friend, is he? Who is he? Your boyfriend?” You asked in a whisper all behind Changmin who was scooping out the rice porridge into a bowl for Lucy. Even then, Changmin couldn’t help but smirk hearing this conversation happening right behind him.
“He’s… ah. I’ll explain tomorrow. I have to go now.” Jisoo escaped despite you trying to hold her back.
“Heegeun ah, let’s go. Lucy, mommy will see you tomorrow okay? I love you.” Jisoo said as she bid her daughter goodbye at the doorway. Meanwhile, you clicked your tongue in annoyance and whispered to yourself, “Ugh. He’s definitely not her friend…” Nevertheless, you heard the door click shut and Lucy soon went back to her toys. So you took this opportunity to interrogate Changmin instead.
“Why are you smiling? You know something, don’t you?” You asked, only for him to shrug his shoulders teasingly.
“I don’t know anything. He was already here when I came about an hour ago.” Changmin said, making you growl.
“There’s something fishy going on here…” You said while narrowing your eyes at him but then changed the topic as you took the bowl and walked over to Lucy to feed her dinner.
Your mind keeps drifting off to the guy earlier and you can’t stop worrying about history repeating itself again. Ever since what happened with Lucy’s biological father, you have gotten awfully overprotective towards your sister that you tend to analyse whoever wants to date her. So the fact that this guy suddenly appears in the picture without your sister telling you a thing about him, makes you feel slightly skeptical.
All the while you were just blankly staring into space with your mind somewhere else, Changmin was actually observing you. He kept smiling to himself knowing you were probably going crazy about who the guy was and all that. When you knew it was pointless to keep thinking about that guy’s relation with your sister, you just glanced to the left randomly with no particular intentions. Unfortunately, that caused you to lock eyes with Changmin but all he did was smirk at you charmingly.
After you’ve fed Lucy, you went to clean up the kitchen while Changmin accompanied her for the next few minutes before bringing her to bed. It took him less than 10 minutes to get her to finally sleep as he leaves her room quietly. Changmin walks into the living room to find you seated on the couch just watching your favourite american youtuber duo on the smart tv.
Changmin soon came to join you, sitting so close to you that you could literally rest your leg on his thigh since you sat with your legs bent into your chest. Still in your work clothes but thankfully you’re in formal pants so it’s fine to sit like that.
“What would you do if that guy is actually dating your sister?” Changmin suddenly asks, causing you to get agitated again.
“I’m gonna make sure he doesn’t break her heart and treat her the way she deserves to be treated or else I’ll come for his throat.”
“Woah. You’re literally threatening him.” He laughed but you frowned.
“After what that asshole did when he found out my sister was pregnant, I’m never letting any guy come near her unless he’s proved to me that he’s worthy of my sister.” You said protectively and he could sense that from you. Nevertheless, he totally understands where you’re coming from.
“So what kind of guys do you like?” He suddenly changes the topic, catching you off guard a little.
“I-I… I actually don’t know… If I like someone, I’ll just know I guess.”
“How would you know if you like someone?” He asked, making you shy all of a sudden. It was difficult for you to answer at first but you managed to do it after a few seconds of buffering.
“W-Well… When I have butterflies while being around them? Or maybe when I feel comfortable and safe around them?” Changmin seemed to digest your answer as you wondered why he was asking you this question. Just then, he got up and said he wanted to go to sleep claiming he’s tired and sleepy. You bid him goodnight as you went to take a shower before going to bed yourself.
The next morning, your sister came home at about 8am as she found you sleeping in her bed. That same afternoon when Jisoo had already gotten her sleep since today was her day off, the four of you decided to hang out at the mall. Changmin was the one driving today so you sat in front with him while your sister and niece sat at the back. All the while, Lucy poked her head through the gap in the middle between you and Changmin. She sang and danced to the songs that Changmin put on his car radio just for her.
At one point, while Lucy was just talking to her mother about something out the window, you glanced back only to smile at the sight. The car gradually came to a stop at the traffic junction so you turned to look in front but instead, you caught Changmin’s gaze on you.
“What?” You asked softly, earning a cheeky little smile from him. One that wakes the butterflies in your stomach.
“Have I ever mentioned you’re pretty?” He suddenly flirts with you despite knowing there’s two other people in the back.
“Shut up.” You dismissed him with a shy laugh, knowing he’s just being playful. There’s absolutely no way he actually means what he said… Right?
Just then, Changmin glared and clicked his tongue at you to show that he was probably disappointed with your reaction. Though, knowing how he is, he was just joking with his reaction and it was true because he then replied, “Ungrateful…” Upon hearing this, you gently punched his arm and he hissed but never got angry for real. How did you know? Because right after he did that, you could see the way the corner of his lips curled up.
In another 10 minutes, you arrived at the mall where Changmin finally parked the car in the parking lot upstairs. The moment the engine was turned off, Lucy was already scrambling out of the car and was dragging her mother into the lobby which leads straight into the shopping mall. She was so eager to go see the toy shops she saw the other day. While the two mother and daughter were walking ahead, you waited for Changmin to get out of the car and locked it before walking with him.
You were going to turn the corner where the slope is when Changmin slid his right arm around your waist from behind to pull you in right as a car was speeding down the slope.
“Watch where you’re going, pretty.” Changmin said, making you blush.
“I-I was about to stop…” You faked an excuse as he squeezed your side softly before letting go.
Both of you made it safely into the mall, not surprised when you saw the two of them entering the toy shop just opposite from the lobby. You walked towards the shop and went inside to find them. Lucy was going around, looking at all the toys and playsets but your sister told her not to get any because she already has a lot at home.
Lucy isn’t the kind to cry and beg her mother for something she wants but you can see from her expression. Your heart breaks whenever you see her like that so when all of you were now at an ice cream shop, everyone had their own ice creams except for Lucy. She was sulking so she didn’t wanna buy anything even when her mother consoled her. With that being said, you looked at Lucy who was seated diagonally across from you and beside Changmin with a smile.
“Hey Lucy darling, mind if you accompany me go see a dress at one of the shops? I think I might change my mind about it.” At first she just shook her head and hung her head against Changmin’s chest. So you got up and went over to her side before you cupped her face and made her look at you gently, giving you the chance to whisper to her something her mother couldn’t catch.
“I’ll buy whatever you want from the toy store but don’t tell mommy.” That was all you said as she finally tore away from Changmin and kept her sad face on but decided to follow you. It was only when the two of you were no longer visible in their sight that you high fived her and she giggled excitedly to you.
Meanwhile, after you left, Changmin was just eating his ice cream when your sister suddenly spoke up from her seat diagonally across from him.
“Changmin, you’re a really nice guy and apparently a very good babysitter.”
“Oh. Thanks? I’m just doing my job.” Changmin said with a laugh, only for her to smile.
“But I think it’s time for me to talk to you about this…” She paused to give him the element of suspense. He was thinking that he was gonna be in trouble for something he did wrong or maybe even fired at this point. Except, the question that came out of her mouth was the least expected question to ever cross his mind.
“Do you like her?” She asked, catching him off guard.
“H-Her who? Your daughter or your sister?”
“I know you like my daughter. But unfortunately, I’m referring to my sister.” She laughed to lighten up the mood and it worked. Changmin felt a little less tense but he was still nervous about the question. Since he was taking too long to answer, she decided to change her question.
“Okay, nevermind. Scratch that. Let me rephrase myself… What do you think of my sister?”
Now that’s a question he could answer in a heartbeat.
“I think she’s an amazing person. She’s smart, kind, and can be annoying sometimes back when we were younger but she’s such an amazing auntie to Lucy and I can see that really well.” Your sister smiled happily at her bowl of ice cream before she spoke up afterwards.
“Now is it easier for you to answer my original question that I asked?” She teased and so Changmin chuckled nervously but he felt ready to give her his answer.
“I do like your sister. I actually like her a lot now…”
“Good. Because I think she likes you too, just that she’s still trying to figure that part out.” Your sister said as he felt something tickle his heart. Do you really like him too? If you do, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. Just a few seconds after, you came back with Lucy and there was a huge plastic bag you were holding in your hand, paired with a toothless soft toy in Lucy’s arms. Your sister’s jaw drops as Changmin simply laughed at her reaction.
“I knew you were lying earlier, you brat.” She said to you, making you stick your tongue out at her teasingly.
“I know.” You said as you flipped your hair sassily and she scoffed but her smile betrayed her.
“Well, now that you’re here, I’m gonna go check out the home furniture store upstairs.” She said as she soon disappeared. Changmin brought Lucy to go buy her ice cream since she was in a happier mood now. When they came back, Lucy asked Changmin to feed her. He did it without hesitation, paying full attention to her only to abandon his own cup of ice cream that was ⅓ done.
“Lucy, can you eat on your own? Uncle Min needs to finish his ice cream before it melts” You said, trying to make her listen.
“No! I want Uncle Minie to feed me.” She said with a proud smile on her face.
“Can I feed you then? He needs to eat his ice cream too.” You tried to persuade her but she whined.
“Lucy.” You called her name once in a serious tone but she looked at you with a frowning pout. Her eyes started to get glossy so Changmin quickly stepped in and smiled at her.
“It’s okay, Lucy. Uncle Minie will eat later. Come, open your mouth.” He said while slowly bringing the spoon to her mouth. She eats it quietly, avoiding your gaze in case you scold her as she fiddles with her toothless soft toy ears. You let out a soft sigh, which was unfortunately heard by Changmin. You pressed your fingertips to your temples, only to hear him direct his words to you.
“Since she doesn’t want you to feed her, you can feed me before my ice cream turns into soup.” Changmin said. You glanced at him and then his ice cream bowl. It was starting to melt so you took his bowl and scooped a spoonful of ice cream and his toppings before bringing it to his mouth.
He ate it and the corner of his lips instantly curled into a small smile. You pretend you didn’t see that as he turned back to Lucy to feed her. This continued until her ice cream was finished, only then could he eat his dessert on his own. However, when you were about to pass it to him, he simply sat there with his mouth open. You raised your eyebrows at him in question and he smirked.
“Since you’ve been feeding me, you might as well continue.” Changmin said, making you shove the spoon onto the tip of his nose, getting a small blob of ice cream on it. You laughed as he narrowed his gaze at you on purpose but it didn’t scare you.
“It was a perfect opportunity. I’m sorry.” You said, only to feed him the last scoop before handing the rest to him. Changmin ate on his own after wiping his nose while Lucy came to sit next to you and apologised for making you angry. You told her you weren’t angry and that you just wanted her to be independent and she listened. All the while, Changmin was listening to you and it sparked something in him. Not long after, your sister came back and soon, all of you left to head home.
A few minutes upon reaching back at her apartment, you told your sister you weren’t staying over because you have to clean the house tomorrow so she said okay. Changmin also said he needed to go home to do his laundry. So when it was time to say goodbye to Lucy, both Changmin and you gave her a goodnight hug despite her crying, begging for you two to stay. Changmin went ahead and cupped her cheeks in his hands, giving her forehead a soft kiss to calm her down.
“Don’t cry, Lucy. Uncle Minie will come see you again soon. Auntie Y/N too, okay?” He said, making your heart swell.
“Y-You promise?” She asked so he nodded and did a pinky swear with her.
“I promise.”
“O-Okay…” She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck before letting go. She then came to you so you squat down to match her height and gave her a warm hug too. When both you and Changmin finally stepped out of the apartment unit, she gave you one big wave before her mother gently guided her back inside.
You were quietly walking next to him when he asked, “How are you getting home?”
“Bus, probably.” You said, only for him to offer you a ride home.
“I-It’s fine. I can take the bus.”
“I don’t take no for an answer.” He said, allowing you to enter the lift first. Once you got into his car, he asked for your address and so you gave it to him. In the car, his mind drifted back to your sister’s words earlier.
“I think she likes you too”
Changmin’s mind was swirling with questions following those words but he never actually voiced out to you about it. When he finally parked the car in front of your apartment complex, you thanked him for the ride home and bid him goodnight. He simply nodded and so you left his car right after.
Tumblr media
Days have passed and it was recently announced that there will be a company event at the end of this week. The event is to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary upon its first launch. Not only that, everyone was encouraged to bring a plus one to the event, be it their significant other, a friend, a family member, etc. Therefore, your friends in your team have decided to invite their partners along since they were all either engaged or in a relationship with someone. The only one who is single between the five of you, is you.
“So, are you guys gonna bring your partners?” Taehyung asked, earning a smirk from Yoongi.
“Hell yeah. I would be glad to show off my fiancè to that girl in the HR department who keeps flirting with me at work.” Yoongi said, making you laugh.
“How about you?” Yeji then turned to ask you, earning a quiet sigh from you. They knew you broke up with Sunwoo a while ago and that you’ve been single ever since. She felt bad for asking you so she tried to cheer you up, “You can go with me. We don’t need to bring anyone to the event.”
However, you knew she would love to bring her boyfriend to this event so you just smiled and rejected her offer. You reassured them that you’ll figure something out and told them not to worry about you. As much as they didn’t want you to feel left out, they knew you wouldn’t be affected by going solo to the event. With that being said, the topic was dropped and Jieun proceeded to talk about something else.
A few hours later, you made it to your sister’s apartment after work to have dinner before your sister leaves for work. You were at the kitchen island eating the kimchi soup your sister made with her while Changmin was in the living room with Lucy and you kept thinking about the company event. Your sister could probably sense your mind being somewhere else so she was the first to break your train of thoughts.
“You look like your mind just did a brain fart over there. What’s going on?” She asked you calmly as you sighed.
“My company is doing a 25th anniversary event this Saturday evening. They invited everyone in the company…”
“But?” She said knowing you were hiding something when you paused.
“But they encouraged all the workers to bring their plus ones. I can’t bring Sunwoo because he’s my ex now.”
“So ask Changmin.” She said almost so easily, causing you to widen your eyes in shock. Just then, Changmin’s voice sounded from behind you as he heard his name in the equation.
“Ask me what?” He said as you glared at your sister to keep her mouth shut but she of course didn’t care.
“She has this company event on Saturday evening and she needs a plus one so I told her to ask you since I’ll be out of town from Friday to Sunday with Lucy.” She said with a proud smile on her face. You just wanted to stab her right now for being so blunt. Nevertheless, Changmin looked at you and gave you his answer with no hesitation at all whatsoever.
“Sure. I’ll go with you. That is if you’re okay of course.”
You were speechless but maybe you were just a tad bit happy that he was okay to go with you considering you weren’t technically friends to begin with. So since he already said he could go with you, that’s one less thing on your checklist to prepare for the weekend.
A few days went by and it was finally time to get ready for the company event. You texted Changmin to ask again if he was really okay with going to the event as your plus one. He sent you the cutest message you’ve ever gotten by someone even though it sounds pretty threatening considering it’s him who texted it.
“You can either accept the fact that you’re going with a handsome lad or choose to go to the event with your lonely ass. You pick.”
It wasn’t a surprise that you laughed upon reading the text but he doesn’t have to know that… For the event, you decided to pick out the most formal yet casual dress you owned which was a simple black fitted lace dress that stops at your mid thighs. Pairing it with your favourite nude open toe heels that were just 3 inches at least. Your makeup was very light and you had your hair clipped up, leaving your bangs down to frame your face. When he texted you at 7pm saying he was downstairs, you texted back to acknowledge him and soon took your necessary belongings.
When you made it downstairs, you saw him lean against the passenger side door looking handsome as ever. Changmin was wearing a black skinny jeans, white button down formal shirt with the first four buttons undone, a black blazer over that and his black boots. His hair was jet black with the slight side parting, hair styled up to show his forehead.
Your heart was beating so fast as you approached him but you quickly maintained your composure when he finally looked up to meet your eyes. Changmin checked you out briefly and pretty much openly, making you feel a little small under his intense gaze. When he finally locked eyes with you again, he smirked charmingly at you and said, “Have you always looked this hot?” His comment was totally unexpected as it awoke the butterflies in your belly.
“Apparently not, I guess.” You said, only for him to laugh. Both of you got into the car and you gave him the address so he finally drove off following the map. In the car, he asked you more about the event and you tried your best to answer every question to your best abilities.
Right after he parked the car in the parking lot, he turned the engine off and suddenly asked, “By the way, what am I supposed to be tonight?”
“Oh… U-Uh… I don’t know. I guess just go with the flow?”
“Good idea.”
With that being said, both of you made your way into the lobby and went up to the ballroom level via the lift. When you arrived at the ballroom, you showed the security your staff pass and soon entered the venue with Changmin closely behind you. The room was filled with your colleagues but only a few were recognisable to you. Changmin scanned the entire room curiously, trying to get used to the new environment until he felt soft fingers wrap around his hand to bring him back to reality.
“Hey, keep walking or you’ll get lost.” You said with a gentle smile on your face, making his heart flutter. Nevertheless, he followed you to a table where your friends and their plus ones were seated at.
“Y/N! You made it!” Yeji said with an excited tone as her eyes soon flew over to Changmin behind you. She smirked at you but Taehyung beat her to the questions.
“Hey, who’s this?” He asked with a teasing smirk, making you blush.
“Guys, this is Changmin… He’s uh…” You paused as your mind grew fuzzy on what to say so you naturally turned to look at Changmin. However, he seemed oddly calm as he finally looked at them and spoke up confidently that it made you slightly shocked.
“Boyfriend… I’m her boyfriend.” Changmin said, causing your friends to make excited sounds that you couldn’t help but laugh, finding it funny.
“It’s nice to meet you, Changmin. You definitely made a good choice.” Taehyung said, making you slap his arm and soon took a seat in the empty chair next to him while Changmin sat next to you. All of you began to chat as Changmin surprisingly got along well with your colleagues and including their individual partners too. The event was going well so far, the CEO gave out his speech and was giving out awards to the staff members in the company. After that segment was done, it was currently a free and easy time. People can mingle around, dance on the dancefloor, etc.
Just then, Jieun noticed a photobooth at the other side of the room so she spoke up, telling everyone at your table to go take pictures for memories. Changmin remained seated at first but when you noticed he wasn’t moving, that’s when Yoongi spoke up to address him.
“You too, Changmin. Come on.” Changmin’s eyes grew wide as he looked up at you and you smiled. You patiently waited for him, seeing how hesitant he was. So to ease him up a little, you laced your fingers with him and he turned to look down at your intertwined fingers. Changmin glanced up to meet your soft eyes staring back at him, melting him into a puddle.
“We’re here together, remember?” You asked so he nodded. Both of you began to make your way to the photobooth where your friends and their partners were already busy choosing props for the pictures.
They beckoned you over so you dragged Changmin with you. Once you’ve chosen your prop which was a cat ears headband, Changmin chose the same as you so that you were both matching. First picture, the girls sat on the bench while the guys stood behind you. Second picture, the bench was taken away as you guys scattered around to stand with your partners. You stood behind Jieun while Changmin was to your left. Right before the picture was taken, you felt his warm hand gently rest on your waist to hold you securely beside him.
Your heart was racing as the picture was taken and they were now deciding how to pose. Meanwhile, you turned to him and saw that his hair was a bit messy. While everyone was deciding how to pose, you reached up and carefully adjusted his bangs so that they weren’t poking his eyes. All the while, Changmin couldn’t help but stare into your eyes even though you weren’t looking at him. When you finally realised he was staring at you, that’s where you giggled and whispered to him quietly.
“What?”
“Nothing. You just look really cute right now.” Changmin said.
You blushed yet again as you gently slapped his chest but he quickly wrapped his arms around your waist, his left hand holding his right wrist to keep you secure against him. Since you were stuck like that, you ended up resting your hands on his chest while you posed for the third picture.
“Okay guys! Should we do a cute photo for the last one?” Yeji asked, only for Taehyung to suggest something very unexpected.
“We should kiss our partners!” He said, making you panic slightly. Changmin noticed the way you tensed up in his arms so he felt the need to calm you down. With that being said, Changmin nudged your cheek with his sharp nose to make you look at him. When you turned, Changmin smiled down at you with his arms still around you.
“We don’t have to kiss if you don’t want to. We can just pretend.” He said calmly, making your heart melt.
Has he always been this sweet?
“I-I… Are you sure?”
“Of course. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable or anything.” He reassured you and it was enough to make you feel a lot better.
Everyone else was already in their positions as they brought back the bench. Two couples were seated while the other three were standing. You were on the left side with Changmin, standing behind Yoongi and his fiancè. The cameraman did a countdown to tell you when he would snap the picture. So you turned to look at Changmin as you slid your hands onto his neck and kept them there.
3…
Changmin smiled softly at you while he carefully leaned down to let his nose brush against yours.
2…
You then saw his gaze fall down south easily as he let out a soft but shaky breath to calm his own rapid heart despite the smile still plastered on his face.
1…
Just two seconds before the cameraman took the picture, you tilted your head up to let your lips crash against his softly. He was still smiling into the kiss when the picture was captured, making you caress his jaw gently with your thumbs. When you pulled away, you struggled to meet his eyes. Butterflies erupted rapidly in your stomach, earning a soft laugh from him.
“Look who’s being brave tonight.” He teased you over a whisper, making you shy.
“It’s the best opportunity I have, I guess?” You said and he couldn’t help but agree. All of you returned the props back to the table and made your way back to the table. About an hour later, the event was finally over so it was time to head back home. You bid goodbye to your friends and their partners before walking back to Changmin’s car.
Both of you remained quiet during the first few minutes, not really sure how to approach the topic of what happened earlier. At one of the traffic junctions, you were just staring out the window, your mind currently running haywire thinking about the kiss when you felt his soft hand slip into yours and carefully laced his fingers together with yours. Changmin brings your hand up only to plant a gentle kiss to the back of your hand before resting them in his lap while he drives. When he made it to your apartment, he didn’t need to be asked because he was already walking with you to the lobby.
You quietly brought him to the lift and up to your apartment level, all in a peaceful silence. When you reached the 12th floor, both of you got out of the lift as you led him to your door. After you’ve unlocked your door, you turned around but Changmin thought you wanted to say your goodbyes.
“I’ll see you around then? Goodnight Y/N.” Changmin said as he was about to walk off when you held his wrist and pulled him back only to cup his face with your other hand and tugged him down to kiss him. Changmin was genuinely stunned this time as he froze when you kissed him. His hands were awkwardly hovering over your waist. Changmin was so scared of making the wrong move but when he felt how genuine your kiss was, that’s when he finally melted against you.
He easily wraps his arms around your waist to pull you into his chest while guiding you back to gently crash against the door. Changmin’s kiss was passionate and needy, his hands squeezing your sides as though he was afraid to let you go. You pulled away first to take a breath, holding his face with both hands and smiled.
“Stay with me tonight…” You whispered over his lips, causing him to go crazy.
“I would absolutely love to.” Changmin smirked as he kissed you again while reaching for the door handle to push it open. You stumbled back into your apartment while he held you to prevent you from falling over.
He then kicked the door closed and locked it before lifting you up onto his waist while kissing you again. He kicked off his shoes while he helped to unbuckle your heels and let it slip down to the ground. He walked deeper into your apartment, guiding him to your bedroom. Once he made it there, he brought you to your bed, gently laying you down as you sat up and watched him take off his blazer and tossed it to the ground.
Changmin crawls up the bed to join you, situating himself between your legs as you pull him down for a kiss. While you were busy kissing him, your hands began to unbutton his white shirt and pushed the material off his shoulders for him. He threw it to the ground as he then pouted to you adorably.
“Why am I the only one with less clothes on?” He asked, only for you to giggle.
“Because mine is just one piece.” You said, earning a playful smirk from him. Changmin kissed you while pinning your hands above your head. He laced his fingers with yours, holding them against the mattress while he kissed you lovingly. Suddenly, he stopped only to look you dead in the eye. You thought he was going to change his mind and that he just realised that this wasn’t what he wanted but then what comes out of his mouth next was totally unexpected.
“I think I love you.”
“What?”
This time, he said it confidently.
“Scratch that… I love you, Y/N.” Changmin said, making your heart swell. With that being said, you kissed him longingly while caressing his cheek. When you pulled away, you slowly fluttered your eyelids open to meet his gaze and smiled.
“I love you too, Changmin.”
That was all he needed to hear before continuing with where you both stopped. Knowing that the feelings are mutual, it felt a little more intimate now. All the while, he was being gentle to you, asking you questions to make sure you’re okay with what he’s doing. He would only go rough when he needs to, etc. That night, you felt so loved and respected. He showered you with so much love that it made you feel so full at the end of it all.
You’re glad he went to the event with you that night because if he didn’t, you probably still wouldn’t know how you felt for each other.

What are you thoughts on Marshfield?
I think that there's one factor that makes this pairing believable and one factor which makes this pairing unbelievable.
The factor making it believable is that Max is the only person in the whole wide world that cared about Kate when she needed care and support the most. The fact that Kate's mother and aunt not only didn't support her, but actually made her burden much harder by accusing her of wrongdoing (when she was clearly a victim of something horrible) is well known, but I think Kate's friends and the rest of her family should be ashamed of their actions (or inaction) too.
By the time Kate tries to commit suicide, Max has only known her for little more than a month (the game takes place in October, school year almost always starts in September, Max just moved into town to attend Blackwell for her senior year). We know she and Kate had weekly tea parties, but given the short period of time they've known each other they couldn't have had more than a few of those.
Kate does have long-term friends - Stella and Alyssa. They've probably known each other for three years at that point, if not more. Max can find a photo of them with Kate in Kate's room. But they are nowhere to be found during Kate's crisis. Max even comments the find with "I didn't know they were friends", suggesting that as soon as the video started circulating, Stella and Alyssa began avoiding Kate. So Max, who didn't attend Blackwell in the preceding years, didn't even know they were supposed to be Kate’s friends. Max, the new friend, did everything in her power to help. Kate's so called long-term "friends" did nothing.
And Kate's father is a sorry excuse for a parent and for a man.
The video Victoria posted online shows Kate taking a few sips of a drink and immediately starting to behave erratically, before being removed from the party by Nathan. To any rational observer that was a date rape in progress. The victim was roofied and then the perpetrator removed her from the party under the guise of "taking her home".
Kate's father should have immediately removed her from Blackwell and brought her home, because she clearly was at risk of the worst things possible happening to her over there. And then he should have gone to the cops and sought justice for his daughter.
Instead, he sent Kate a letter saying that he forgives her and that he will always love her, no matter what. Forgive her what? Falling victim to a horrible crime? Kate's father's letter strikes me as something not motivated by genuine care for her, but as sanctimonious, phoney, self-serving, holier-than-thou virtue signalling. “Look at me, I forgave my wayward daughter”. The only result it could have had was making Kate feel guilty. And it did precisely that. When Max brings up Kate's father while trying to talk her down from the roof, Kate says that her poor father loves her, even though she disappoints him so much. WTF? He was disappointed in her because she fell victim to a hideous crime? It's clear that her father's "forgiveness" only increased Kate's burden, not lessened it.
In what world does it make sense for a father to learn that his daughter was most likely date raped and to send her an "I forgive you" letter, while doing nothing to protect her or to seek justice for her? And if Kate's parents don't know what roofies or date rape are, then they are clearly not qualified to prepare three daughters for the dangers they might face in the world.
So given the abysmal treatment of Kate by everyone in her family and friend group, with the sole exception of Max, I can easily imagine her developing very strong feelings for Max, her saviour.
But the thing that makes Marshfield not believable are Kate's religious beliefs. Now, Christians do not necessarily hold homophobic beliefs. There are some Christian denominations that even bless same-sex marriages. However, it seems to me that Kate's family belongs to one of the more conservative Christian denominations, which frown upon, if not outright condemn, same-sex pairings. At the roof, Kate clearly has a crisis of faith. She says that God didn't protect her from the horrible abuse she suffered. If that crisis of faith continued even after Max talked her down, she could possibly re-evaluate her beliefs. That could also mean re-evaluating or outright rejecting the belief that a girl romantically pursuing another girl is somehow inherently wrong.
But when Max visits Kate in the hospital, it's clear that her crisis of faith is no more. During her conversation with Max, Kate quite clearly says that she now believes just as strongly as before. That doesn't mean she couldn't re-evaluate her beliefs on homosexual relationships. We don't even know if she had a negative opinion on relationships like that in the first place. But assuming she did, her quick comeback to her previously held beliefs makes any change in that regard less likely.

I wanted to drop by and say that I like your art and your ocs, and that you are really sweet and amazing 🥺✨
If that’s alright with you, could I ask how Deeva would feel about Renée? (I feel like even if she always has the neutral face, she’d be nice to her-)
CYYYYYYYYNN ONE DAY YOU'RE GONNA KILL ME WITH YOUR SWEETNESS 🥺🥺🥺🥺💕💕💕💗💖💕 Thank you so much for sending Renée my way!!! I'm holding her gently and placing a kiss on her forehead, she's so daughter to me!!!!!
AND YOU'RE SO RIGHT ABOUT THAT BECAUSE!!
She's an underclassman, so that means Deeva automatically looks out for her!
They're in the same club and it's known in NRC that Deeva, except for some cases, usually doesn't talk much to ppl outside the PMC or her dormmates.
I can see them eventually opening up to each other and Deeva becoming a reliable big sis figure to Renée!
When Deeva was in her first year, she came to NRC with the idea of not getting attached to anyone (as you can guess that plan ended up failing miserably lmao-), so I feel like she resonated with that cold façade Renée put up when she arrived to Twisted Wonderland (even though she did it for a completely different reason) and started to see her real personality through the cracks. Let me tell you, Deeva is a really observant person, and will immediately notice when Renée is starting to overwork herself and will try to lessen the weight of her responsibilities as much as she can, while also assuring her in her typical direct way of speaking that she won't become a burden for just relaxing a bit or making a small mistake. Big sis Deeva coming in clutch!
Oh and Renée definitely has the privilege of hearing Deeva sing!! Just imagine... Both of them waiting for the rest of the club members to arrive while singing something or Renée trying a new hairstyle on Deeva (<- doesn't mind becoming a test subject for that). Or Renée gifting her origami birds and, in return, Deeva making water figures with her magic and then freezing them for her. It'd be really cute.......

Do you sometimes wonder if Maria had oldest daughter síndrome ™ and what was going through her head while they were haunting down his little baby brother who she never was able to protect and knows how poorly he is treated by everyone else but her ?
hooooo boy ok. i have so many thoughts about Maria Robotnik anon. You're lucky i have free time right now to ramble.
THIS ENDED UP SO MUCH LONGER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD SORRY LMAOOOO
Maria is somewhat of a blank slate, no? at least, she was in the beginning. Her main purpose was "tragic backstory." and there's something to be said about girls/women in media and their only roles being support for the male characters and their arcs. but those are big conversations that other people are more verbose in digging into. also i'm sleepy.
Maria, to me, has always been a blank slate. If not, she's always been the "perfect, proper, glass child." Poor Maria, so soft-spoken, so kind, but sick. She died sacrificing herself, don't you feel bad for her?
i don't think Maria has eldest daughter syndrome. It's something adjacent, though. It's a suppression of emotions, especially negative ones, that can be seen as eldest daughter syndrome. It's the expectations that have been put on her, by herself, to be kind, be courteous, be good.
Because Maria has a terminal illness, perhaps since she was born. The people in her life care about her so much, her grandfather takes her to space because it lessens her condition, there is a massive project going on to save her life!!
Maria doesn't get to be sad. She doesn't get to be angry. She can't show any of these emotions, can't scream and cry about how unfair all this is, can't speak out against people talking like they've already lost her when she's right fucking here. She can't be "difficult". Because her family has given so much to her, for her. They're so sad when they look at her, she can tell. So, I think, Maria puts this pressure on herself. To smile and be happy and positive, so as to not worry or bother anyone.
Children do that, when they perceive themselves to be a burden. It doesn't matter if they're explicitly told that or not. Maybe the adults in their life tell them "God, taking care of you is so expensive. Do you know how much better things would be if you weren't here?" Or maybe their family is loving, but at the end of the day, they see their parents struggling to pay bills, struggling to put food on the table, and wonder "Is it because of me? Am I weighing them down?"
So they become what I like to call "low-maintenance." Never taking more than is needed, because they're hyper aware of the resources they're taking. They make sure to stay happy and agreeable, because they don't want to cause trouble or bother anyone.
In my head, this is where Maria was at. She was happy, sure! No doubt, she loved her family and her grandfather and she loved Earth so much, so desperately did she want to be a part of it.
But she could never talk about the ugly bits. About her anger and frustration and even the depressing thoughts.
I think she started to with Shadow.
Here's her little brother, this little guy that was born from a test tube to be her cure, but has a soul all his own. Who she could talk to about these tough things.
"I sometimes wonder why I was created," Shadow might say.
And Maria, her soul aching, understands.
They come to their own conclusions, on the ARK, about who they are. Shadow is treated like an experiment, a pet, a thing, rarely ever with respect. By most, except for Maria. Maria looks at Shadow and sees family.
With Shadow, she can be moody. She can be snappy. Shadow can be silly and as unserious as he wants without constantly being under the proverbial magnifying glass. They are siblings, that's what they do!!! They don't have to put up this front like they do in front of other people. They don't have to be perfect when they're around each other.
"I feel guilty," Maria might say. Her voice might quiver and shake, like she's admitting something damning. "For existing, sometimes."
Shadow, absolutely floored by the admission that his sister is not always happiness and sunshine, understands.
I love headcanons and aus where Maria is allowed to be just a Weird Little Girl or really get into what she might have been into (goth, macabre, art, etc.) It gives her depth. It gives her life.
So I imagine all this, all the ways this young girl kept herself amicable and calm and pleasant, because she's so afraid of being anything but. Then I imagine all of it coming away when she's with her brother.
Then I imagine her running down the hall, grabbing his hand as the alarms blare. She is filled with love and hope for a world that she was never sure she would get to see. But by God, Shadow will see it. I imagine that there was always the possibility of death looming over her life, and the bullet just sealed it. I imagine the guilt that she feels when she pushes the button that sends him down. I imagine the fear and sadness she feels at the thought of him being alone, ultimately knowing there's nothing she can do. But hoping it was enough.

Comple Millicent's Sisters Series
Plus a link to the full theory at the end.
Mary, Eldest Sister
Tumblr media
Doing a sort of mini-series based on my "Millicent's Sisters Theory." First up we have Mary, Eldest Sister, bearer of Malenia's Ka.
"Mary was born of Malenia's living essence, the drive and devotion that inspired her to become the Blade of Miquella."
"But Mary has known neither Order nor Abundance, and so the Rot became the subject of her devotion. She leads her sisters with unflinching faith, despite the horror to come. Such a shame, that such pure devotion should be so misplaced."
Maureen, Second Sister
Tumblr media
Maureen, Second Sister, bearer of Malenia's Ib.
Maureen bears the heart of Malenia's soul, the warrior's heart that enabled her to withstand a god for decades. But Maureen had no brother to temper her, and no cause to fight for beyond the Age of Rot. The heart bears the weight of one's sins, and Malenia's was a heart burdened by much bloodshed.
Although she is the most warlike of the sisters, it would not be right to say that Maureen holds no affection for the others -- after all, were Malenia's greatest sins not committed in the name of those she loved?
Amy, Third Sister
Tumblr media
Amy, Third Sister, bearer of Malenia's Sheut.
Amy bears Malenia's shadow, the weight of her legacy and the mark she left upon the world. As a scion of the Golden Order and a victim of the Scarlet Rot, in her youth Malenia sought to forge her own destiny, to cast her own shadow beyond that of her curse. Like her mother, Amy learned the blind-fighting techniques of the Blind Swordsman.
For all her skill and dedication, Amy knew that she would never cast a shadow of her own. As Gowry so often reminded her, the only purpose of a bud was to die and bloom. Her life would serve the legacy of the Scarlet Valkyrie and her Rot -- she would make no mark of her own.
While her older sisters looked to the Age of Rot as a source of glory and purpose, Amy felt only bitterness as she grew.
Millicent, the Valkyrie
Tumblr media
Millicent, the Valkyrie, bearer of Malenia's Ba.
Millicent carries Malenia's pride, the sense of self that anchored her throughout all her trials. It was this pride that made her the strongest of all her sisters, possessed of an iron will capable of withstanding the Rot. It was this pride, this unflinching sense of honor and justice, that drove Millicent beyond the borders of Caelid to seek her true purpose.
Despite her strength of character, Millicent dreaded the final revelation. Although her origins were a mystery to her, she knew that her soul was not her own.
What must it be like, to carry such a strong and noble sense of self -- and yet to know that it is not one's own?
Polyanna, Adopted Daughter
Tumblr media
Polyanna, adopted daughter of the sage Gowry.
Though she was raised alongside the others, it soon became clear that she was unlike her sisters. The Rot took her eye, but never spoke to her. The Rot caused pain, but gave no strength in return. She was adopted, though none of them ever quite knew what that meant. By Gowry's telling, the Rot had denied Polyanna its blessing.
Despite the rejection of their far-off mother, Polyanna adapted. She learned a swift and nimble fighting style to account for her lessened strength. She kept her sisters in good humor, though she could not hear the voices that burdened them. She assured herself that their father must love her as well, despite his harshness.
After all, she was adopted. Why would he bother, if he truly despised her as much as he appeared to?

Since you were giving financial advice to the Disney Princesses, I must ask. What’s your take on the financial situation of the Addams Family? In the original show Gomez invested lots of money in the stock market and the family went broke once I think, even though the also seemed to hand out loads of money without a second thought as well?
Gomez Addams has keen money-making instincts, and his generosity is to be commended. But you can tell Morticia is the more scrupulous when it comes to holding onto that dough.
She's absolutely the one who is making sure they're accounting for their frequent charitable donations as tax write-offs, using her husband's generosity to lessen the family's tax burdens. Which they need because you know the property taxes on that rambling gothic mansion have got to be through the leaky, bat-infested roof!
As in all things, they are the epitome of a perfect romantic partnership: they respect each others' skills in the financial arena, they're always on the same page when it comes to parenting, they have a mutual care and decency for their staff, and you can tell just by looking at them that things are still on fire in the bedroom.
When the Addams family "went broke," they fell prey to the fluctuations of the stock market while over-leveraging their risk. It's a common enough mistake, and of course they were able to bounce back. They are to be commended for keeping the family together in stable housing... even if it wasn't quite what they were used to in their mansion.
Next time they find themselves in financial dire straits, I suggest they Airbnb rooms in their home. Or Morticia and Wednesday can start a mother-daughter YouTube channel teaching goth makeup tutorials and make bank as influencers.

How do you think Bonnie's life could've played out if 1) Abby actually decided to make up for being a deadbeat mother and 2) the dynamic with Abby/Bonnie/Rudy being a healing family unit (after Grams death especially). Like even with the whole being a witch thing and all... cause Abby didn't like it and Rudy said he lost Abby to it. It's an interesting dynamic.
❤️ reading all your YVD/TO insights and having these discussions with you.
Stay easy and safe 😘
oooh nice!
As I said in my post with Lucy I think one huge factor that would be eliminated is A LOT Bonnie’s grand sacrifices. Yes, how loyal, protective and maternal (in a sense) Bonnie is amazing. It’s great, but what is she getting in return from her friends? Nothing.…
Abby and Rudy would both have to show not tell Bonnie that they care and will be there for her. It has to be consistent. Rudy’s job was mentioned that he was a traveling Pharmaceutical Rep. Abby was absentee. Bonnie went so long without parental guidance we can assume after Grams. Therefore neither Abby or Rudy can’t just show up and force control over Bonnie when it’s defined uncontrollable for them. Rudy, Abby and Bonnie would need to communicate more. Abby’s presence makes Bonnie uncomfortable and the only way to get over that is by being there physically. Abby’s “my daughter is done helping Elena Gilbert” will hold weight. If she’s around.
The Bennett-Hopkins needs to be honest with each other. Tbh, I don’t think Rudy liked any of the Gilbert’s. None of them. Not for Abby and certainly not for Bonnie. He could explain why he disliked the Gilbert’s and that could lead into how the Petrovas x Bennett’s are tied together but it’s never as beneficial for the Bennett’s as it is the Petrovas well-being. Now Abby needs to admit she doesn’t like the burden of being a witch. It’s hard, Bonnie said so herself. Abby ran from it to protective herself but in doing so she forgot to protect Bonnie. Bonnie could benefit from hearing Abby’s struggles as a witch. I’m sure if they gave the story some room Abby and Miranda could’ve been just as similar to Bonlena’s friendship. Bc how do you ask your friend to drop everything to help save your child…like whut. Well, we know where Elena gets that from lmao. Abby could explain why twice she tried to strip Bonnie of her magic. Did Grams do it to her when she was “out of line?” Lastly, Bonnie NEEDS to call them out. They can’t separate Bonnie from her magic. It’s who she is they have to love her for who she is. No matter who came into town Bonnie was always going to be a Bennett witch. They can’t love her on terms and conditions. Grams was the only one who loved both Bonnie as a witch and Bonnie as her grandchild. Bonnie has to be vulnerable and let them in. Lessen some of her independence to be dependent on her parents. Open up room for separation from her friends.
I think Bonnie would still make plenty of mistakes. She was 17-23/24 throughout the series. She’ll still give more for people who don’t do the same for her. Mess up with magic. I just think they’ll be more self reflection before she jumps into things for her friends. In a healed life for the Bennett-Hopkins, Rudy won’t let things get swept under the rug. He’ll call out would’ve called out how he thinks something was off with Bonnie like here. You can tell in his face something was off with Bonnie. Abby would call out the repetitive patterns in Bonnie’s friendships. Imagine Bonnie telling Abby, Elena tried to kill her. She’d have to work to break this cycle that Abby set her up for since she wasn’t around as a child. She could start with helping Bonnie get ready for prom, being there for graduation. The Bennett-Hopkins working on healing I don’t see Bonnie being able to die for a summer and going unnoticed by everyone, she wouldn’t have been left in the prison world so long, Rudy wouldn’t have died in front of her and by Silas. The anchor plot would’ve been different. While Abby/Rudy plays more of an emotional role in Bonnie life’s she could learn that she doesn’t need the MFG, she shouldn’t give so much into people who give very little into her. Or demand that they start caring for her and doing something own their own for once. I could see the Bennett-Hopkins moving in together to undo that 17 years worth of trauma.
Thank you! I love reading your thoughts and metas too! Bonnie fans are so small compared to most of the fandom and we’re always ignored. But I just love our little fandom ❤️.
Thank you for the ask!

Girls are saved, Girls are educated but where's her dignity!
"Save Girl, Educate Girl" campaign, "Daughter is our proud" slogan, Women's day celebration - But nothing will be changed if girls life is only for the marriage. One in five underage girls and one in six boys are still getting married before the age of 18 (Now the legal age is 21), according to a Lancet Global Health study, despite the fact that the frequency of child marriage in India decreased from 49.4% in 1993 to 22.3% in 2021. More than 13.4 million women between the ages of 20 and 24 were reportedly pushed into marriage as children by 2021, according to research estimates. Lead author Jewel Gausman, a research associate at Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health, stated in the school's news release that "child marriage is a human rights violation." A number of negative health outcomes are both a cause and an effect of social and economic vulnerability. We saw a state or union territory's stall in achieving zero child marriage, which is cause for grave concern and a demand for India to rekindle progress. West Bengal recorded the greatest increase in child weddings in the nation, with over 500,000 girls getting married at an early age, compared to Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, which showed the largest decline in child marriages between 1993 and 2021. In contrast, Manipur, Goa, and Gujarat were unable to stop the rise in underage marriages (among boys) between 2006 and 2021. "The historical implementation of programs to address child marriage has varied across and within states, given that state governments tend to enact social sector policy in India," the researchers stated. In the last eight years, six Indian states reported a higher rate of child marriage in girls than the other 22 states, despite strict laws against this practice. "States that presently have a high burden and prevalence of child marriage, such Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Rajasthan, should receive special attention. They said, "Child marriages have long-term effects on fertility, health, and mortality patterns that negatively impact the population's well-being and the economy." While some research indicates that minimum marriage age laws have a positive impact on lowering the incidence of child marriage in nations that have enacted them, others contend that these laws are difficult to enforce, particularly in remote and difficult-to-reach areas or in situations where other authorities, such as religious institutions, can perform marriages without government oversight, ultimately having little effect. Furthermore, laws prohibiting child marriage might not be properly enforced, which would lessen their impact, they continued.

A Man Twice Mourned
The year 2387
Vulcan
She sensed her daughter T’Val’s approach and hesitation to disturb her meditation… which probably spoke to how ineffective her meditation was. Even so, she chose not to acknowledge her until she spoke.
Which she did, soon enough. “Mother… it has been two weeks, and you have barely eaten in that time.”
She sighed internally, and opened her eyes. The candles arrayed around her had gutted and melted low, leaving them malformed and mostly liquid. “I know,” she said. “Between my grief, and my attempts to meditate to lessen my grief, more time has passed than I expected.” She began to rise to her feet, and T’Val reached out to help her; she gladly accepted. The age of 123 was not old, per se, for either her Vulcan half or her Romulan half, but the losses she had suffered in the recent past had sapped her strength.
Starfleet Vice Admiral (retired) Saavik smoothed her robes and tried to regain some composure, even if it was solely for her daughter’s benefit. “Thank you, daughter,” she said when she felt decently arranged. “I believe I am ready for food now.”
“I had prepared something in anticipation,” she replied. She, too, wore ceremonial robes of mourning, although of the two great losses Saavik had suffered, her daughter probably felt one far more keenly than the other. For that matter, she suspected she herself felt the same loss more keenly.
Two weeks prior, the Romulan sun had gone supernova, destroying the star system that contained Romulus, the homeworld of half her heritage. Losses totalled in the low eleven-digit range, an empirically horrible loss by any measure. And yet… Saavik’s grief and devastation at the loss of one person seemed to outweigh it.
The meal T’Val had prepared was simple but made with skill and care. Saavik had never been sure where this innate talent for food preparation had come from. She herself had never shown aptitude or interest, and her father–
Her father. Grief threatened to overtake her again, and so she took a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself. It was not fully successful, but as the Humans might say, it did take the edge off.
“Would you prefer to eat alone?” T’Val asked.
“I would not,” Saavik replied. “I cannot guarantee I will be good company, but I would prefer to have yours.”
“Of course,” T’Val said. Together they sat, mother and daughter, with a third chair silently and mutually reserved for the person who ought to be there as well, but was not returning.
Saavik took a bite, and found it more than satisfying. “I should not have fasted so long,” she said.
“I was concerned,” T’Val said, and even through layers of practiced control, her mother knew it was true.
“I did not mean to add to your burden, daughter.”
“You are no burden. You are my mother. And I suspect that–” She tensed a moment, and Saavik could see that whatever she had been about to say, she was rewording. “That given our current circumstances, it is only proper that we keep a closer eye on each other’s state, whether physical, mental… or even emotional.”
Emotional indeed. Both of them, and for that matter her father as well, were only half-Vulcan, and so their discipline and control had come a bit harder-earned.
T’Val turned to her mother. “Would it trouble you if I spoke of Father?”
“Not at all,” Saavik assured her. “I think I would enjoy it.” Blatantly emotional language, but quite true.
Her daughter accepted the statement with a nod. “I was thinking of my birthday earlier this year. I did not expect him to arrive in person, given the importance of his research attempting to prevent the supernova, or mitigate its effect.” She paused, and there was undeniably a hint of an expression that told Saavik this was a treasured memory. “But he assured me that his daughter’s 100th birthday was an occasion that required special attention, and that it was only logical that he come to celebrate. His words showed no emotion, and yet conveyed his pride and affection so clearly. I will not forget that.”
It was just a bit too much for Saavik, who knew every word of her daughter’s statement was true. She reached out and took her daughter’s hand in her own, and they stayed like that a moment, their emotions and even their thoughts mingling at a low level. Saavik wasn’t quite ready to let go when she did, but she felt her own grief and pain at loss rising again, and that she did not want to heap upon T’Val.
There was a silence as both ate a few more bites. At last, though, T’Val spoke again: “He felt the same for you too, Mother. Even more so.”
“I know,” Saavik replied. “He made it clear to me, in so many ways, ever since–” She did not immediately finish her sentence.
T’Val waited patiently.
Another partially-successful calming breath, and Saavik continued. “What we shared began out of necessity,” she said. “When I discovered I was with child, he did offer to remain with me, but I did not wish to stand in his way. Even so… he visited as frequently as circumstances would allow. And once the Enterprise-A was decommissioned, he chose to find a position that allowed him to stay on Vulcan." Of course, all this was known to her daughter, but it was helping make the point she was about to make. "It was, of course, for your sake. But I have evidence it was for my sake as well… and his."
T'Val nodded, clearly either fully agreeing or accepting the evidence supported her hypothesis.
Saavik's brow furrowed in thought. "I still find it difficult to fully process our relationship. I suppose I must accept its ambiguity, even from the start. He rescued me from Hellguard, and put me in care of his parents; he was my role model, my mentor, my sponsor at the Academy. He–" Her voice hitched. In front of anyone else, she would have forced herself to regain control or excused herself, but her daughter had no illusion that she was emotionless, nor did she need one. "He saved my life, again, at the cost of his own." She remembered his funeral well. At the time, she had been ashamed of shedding tears. Now she allowed them to flow freely, both remembering him over a century prior, and feeling his renewed loss now. "It was fortunate how curious his rebirth was, or else I would have been quite overcome with delight."
T'Val rested a hand on her mother's arm. "You don't have to relive it all."
"I wish to," she stated calmly, but leaving no argument. "And then, as he aged so rapidly, and faced pon farr… I told myself it was rational and proper to save his life, even more so given he had saved mine." She met her daughter's eyes, and there was a hint, just so, of mischief. "I would not deny, though, that I found great satisfaction in it."
T'Val's hand tightened, just a bit, on Saavik's wrist. "I am not sure I need this sort of information on the circumstances that led to my existence." But T'Val was undeniably her child, and she saw her own incomplete seriousness reflected on her face.
Saavik sat back just a bit. "How strange it is, though, to mourn your father twice, over a hundred years apart. Once as a treasured mentor, savior, and near-kin, and once…" There again, grief threatened to swell, but holding on to how blatantly interesting the experience was helped her lessen it. "Once as the man with whom I shared a daughter, and eventually my life. He was not always with me in person, but he never failed to make his presence known. Or his affection, for the both of us."
A moment of silence passed between them, but it was no longer heavy. Speaking of him had made his loss clearer, but less painful.
"Do you think," T'Val said at last, "that you should have married earlier?"
Saavik gave that some thought. "Perhaps," she said. "It changed very few empirical details in our relationship, but there was something intangible that did seem… different. Improved." She turned to T'Val. "Of course, it did allow you the chance to do a more than satisfactory job in the ceremony itself, by my side. Any younger and you may not have accomplished it so well."
"I was fifty-seven years old, Mother."
"So young still."
T'Val conceded the point, no doubt realizing further debate against her mother would be fruitless.
Once they had finished their meal, Saavik stood, taking up her plate and utensils. "Would you be able to clean up from our meal and preparations? I am willing to complete it later if you are occupied, but right now, there is something I must do."
T'Val took the items from her hands. "Of course," she said, and Saavik sensed she knew what the something she must do was. "I will tidy for both of us."
"Thank you." She briefly touched her daughter's hand, then retreated not to where she had been meditating, but to her office. There she went to the console on her desk and said, "Computer… retrieve archived message from spacecraft Jellyfish." There had been only one; only time for one.
The computer gave a bleep of acknowledgement, then the screen lit up with his message:
Hello, my wife.
I regret that I cannot tell you this in person, or even in realtime. But circumstances have made it impossible to do this properly, so it must be done improperly.
I do not expect to return from Romulus. I am attempting to apply experimental red matter to stop the Romulan supernova from consuming more than it already has. Even if I am successful, however, I will not be able to return to you.
I grieve with thee on the loss of this world. I suspect you will grieve for me as well. In truth... I am sorry to give you further reason to grieve.
If I have not treated you with the tenderness you deserved, or have not made clear my love and desire for you, I am sorry for that as well. It was my intention to bring you joy and satisfaction, and a partnership that accomplished many things, both large and small – our daughter being far from the least of them. I hope I succeeded.
My logic fails me, my wife. So instead I send my deep and abiding love, and my sorrow at this insufficient goodbye.
I have no more time. So I must close and send this message before it is too late. Please tell T'Val that my thoughts were with you both as I completed my task.
Parted from me, and never parted, my wife.
Spock
The year 2263
New Vulcan
Commander Spock watched the shuttle from the Symmetry land, still not fully understanding the events that had led him here.
After the destruction of the Enterprise by Krall, and while the Enterprise-A was still under construction at Yorktown Station, he had requested and received extended leave. It was logical to seek rest after events of such intensity, and in addition, there were affairs in need of concluding. Nyota had offered to accompany him, but had understood when he declined. As agreeable as her company was, this seemed like something that ought to be done alone.
And so he went to New Vulcan to see what, if anything, needed to be done about his elder self – his late elder self, he often had to remind himself. How fascinating to mourn his own death, even if it was an older version of himself thrown back in time from an alternate future.
Unsurprisingly, given the man had arrived in the present in a small starship, he had very few personal effects. What little he had, then, he had either obtained here and now, or had been of critical importance. One such item was the image of the crew of the Enterprise, but older and only vaguely recognizable beyond Spock himself.
There were, however, three other items, and they were the ones that, five weeks later, had brought him -- and the shuttle from the Symmetry here.
The shuttle came to a halt and powered down; Spock looked back down at the two other images his future self had brought with him. One was of Spock, older than he was now but far younger than his counterpart, with a woman and a young girl, both with Vulcanoid features. The girl resembled both the older Spock and the woman with him, which was a clear implication of who the three of them were to each other. The second was of Spock and the woman, older yet, both dressed impeccably for whatever occasion was in progress. It appeared to be their wedding.
And then there was the note.
The hatch to the shuttle opened, and a number of people began to file out. All looked worse for wear; all had the pointed ears and sloped eyebrows of his people, but some… some had the divergent frontal development that spoke to Romulan heritage.
Just as the note had said, then.
Next from the shuttle was a contrasting pair: a woman in ragged clothes, and a man of dignified bearing and composure. The man spotted Spock close by, raised his hand in the Vulcan salute, and greeted him simply: "My son."
Spock returned the salute. "Father. I see the coordinates provided were accurate."
"They were," Sarek confirmed. "I still have some… dissonance about acting on information from the future. But," he continued before his son could object, "given the obvious divergences already from the future your elder self described, I suppose some flexibility is permitted."
Spock wondered if the rationale his father provided was the complete explanation, or whether even he was not immune to being influenced by grandchildren, even unborn ones unlikely to exist in this timeline. "Your influence in this matter was invaluable."
"My influence is at your disposal, my son," he said. A mutual nod passed between them, acknowledging the improved relationship that had resulted from the tragedies of five years previous. Then he turned to the woman who had accompanied him. "T'Pala, this is my son, Commander Spock of Starfleet. Spock, this is T'Pala." He looked as if he wished to say more, but he clearly knew full well that Spock and T'Pala would have more than enough to discuss. "I will take my leave, and allow you to speak." And so he did.
Spock had considered what to say to this woman when they finally met. Unfortunately he had not decided. So he allowed himself to, as his Human side might say, wing it. "Forgive me if I am being forward, with knowledge difficult to explain… but, are you pregnant?"
T'Pala raised both eyebrows. "I am," she answered. "I found out several days before the Symmetry found us." She tilted her head to the side. "I have told my husband Sivak and no one else. I will also be forward, Commander: how could you possibly know?"
So. That also explained why the note was not to be opened until a specific stardate. "It is a long story," he informed her.
"I appear to have a great deal of time," she answered.
Time indeed, reflected Spock. He recalled the words that his future self had written to, well, himself:
I suspect your future will not resemble my past, and you will never have the same interaction or relationship with the woman in these images. I had resolved to take these actions myself, then, when the time was correct. However, I now believe I will not live to accomplish them, and so the obligation I feel to her, no matter the timeline, falls to you:
Retrieve the survivors from Hellguard as soon after the date provided as is practical. Locate T'Pala and Sivak among them, and make sure they want for nothing. Enlist the aid of our father if possible.
And finally, if they have not already chosen a name for their unborn daughter, suggest the name Saavik.

Today's Hyunseo's third death anniversary.
For Dasom, it still feels like yesterday when she received a call from a very frantic mother of hers. She can never forget that specific moment when the bomb was suddenly dropped on her.
"Eomma?" Dasom tentatively speaks on the phone, her eyes not able to stop in one place since she's still trying her best to calm down her nerves as she's about to step onto the podium to deliver a presentation in front of the whole batch.
She puts the phone away from her ear, double-checking if she read the caller's name correctly since no one is speaking on the other line. Seeing that it is indeed her mother, Dasom asks again. "Eomma, what's wrong? What happened?"
A choked sob can be heard, making Dasom's heart beat faster than it already is. "Dasom-ah.."
"Eomma," now she's scared. She has no idea what to expect from her mother's mouth. "Breathe." She hears her mother doing what she just said, "Okay. Now, tell me slowly what just happened?"
Dasom immediately regrets answering her mother's phone call right before her name gets called in front.
"It's your sister, Dasom. She's got a malignant brain tumor and is currently admitted since she fainted at work."
Before arriving at their agreed meeting place, Dasom made sure to pass by a nearby flower shop to buy her sister's favorite flowers, daisies. Hyunseo would have turned thirty this year so Dasom makes sure to buy thirty daisies for her. She's already late, to be honest. But that doesn't deter her from still going out of the way to buy the said flowers.
That's why Dasom just chose not to mind the glare she was receiving from her brother-in-law, Baekhyun, when she finally arrives after fifteen minutes of being late.
"You're late," displeasure is evident in Baekhyun's voice when he acknowledged Dasom's presence.
"Sorry," she responds, "I had to buy these," she then shows the bouquet of daisies she brought. Dasom didn't miss the flick of understanding in Baekhyun's eyes upon the sight of the fresh flowers.
It was Dasom's mom who spoke next. "They're beautiful, Som."
"She'll love them." Dasom's dad comes close to grip Dasom's shoulder, his eyes glistening with unshed tears, overwhelmed by her younger daughter's thoughtful gesture.
The heartwarming moment of the family is disrupted by Baekhyun's piercing voice, "It's turning dark already, we should go there before it rains."
Dasom wanted to say something since it was pretty obvious that Baekhyun's rude interruption is on purpose but she refrained from doing so before she does something she'll surely regret afterward. She needs to be understanding since Baekhyun has barely recovered from the sudden loss of his wife.
Since Hyunseo died, Dasom's parents treated Baekhyun like their own son and took the liberty to babysit their only granddaughter, Dahyun. They wanted to help lessen the burden on Baekhyun's shoulders since his workload is piling up given his recent promotion as the Chief Operating Officer and Creative Co-Director of a multinational fashion company.
Of course, Dasom also played her part as a helpful in-law. Whenever she's free or if her academic load was not that heavy, she always spends time with her niece since it also serves as a time of relaxation for her. It then becomes inevitable for Dahyun to grow closer to Dasom as time goes by.
Upon entering Baekhyun's car, she notices the absence of her beloved niece. "Where's Dahyun?"
"I left her at my mom's," Baekhyun promptly replies, his eyes still on the road since he's in charge of driving them to Hyunseo's resting place.
"Why didn't you let her join us today? Unnie would've loved to see her daughter."
Dasom notices the way Baekhyun tightened his grip on the steering wheel. There's nothing wrong with her question anyway, right? But then again, why has Baekhyun not turned sensitive whenever she mentions her sister to him?
"She's way too young for this," Baekhyun explains.
Dasom is unsatisfied with his reason. She believes that a child can never be too young to be brought to their parent's resting place. It is their right to know about this mere fact and she detests how Baekhyun's sheltering Dahyun too much. Sooner or later, she's sure that the poor child will begin to think how unfair it is for her father to filter the truth about the death of her matter. And Dasom never wants that to happen, at all.
"But she deserves to know," Dasom argues, "I doubt you have already brought Dahyun to the columbarium to meet her mother. Right?"
The car stops in the presence of a red traffic light, giving a chance for the tension to grow inside the car, making the two elders nervous for the heated discussion that's about to begin between their only living daughter and their son-in-law.
"Baekhyun, will it be fine if I fetch Dahyun later so she can spend the night at our place? I promise to get her home safely tomorrow afternoon." It was Dasom's mom who spoke, attempting to change the topic so as to prevent more arguments from popping up.
Baekhyun's and Dasom's eyes connected through the rearview mirror, making the former subtly frown at their sudden interaction. Dasom quickly avoids his gaze, placing her elbow on the car's window sill and watching the view outside. She hears Baekhyun's response: "Of course, eomma. I'm sure Dahyun will love that too."
That's probably the only thing Dasom will ever agree with Baekhyun— whenever they get to take care of his charming daughter, they're certain how happy she genuinely gets in the company of her grandparents and her pretty aunt.
Since Hyunseo died, Dasom has actually taken quite a liking on Baekhyun's daughter since she has always been fond of taking care of kids. She adores Dahyun's innocence and easygoing personality, something that was once hers but got lost when she finally stepped into the real world.
A very sad truth.
"We're here," Baekhyun's announcement effectively pulls Dasom out of her mind. Looking beside her, she gives a weak smile to her mom, whose eyes have already turned glossy as soon as the car stopped.
Since Hyunseo's death, her parents have been unable to regularly visit her resting place since they got caught up with matters at work. Even though they wanted to drop by for a moment, their work schedules render them unable to do so since the bank has been experiencing a bit of turmoil for quite some time now. Therefore, Dasom understands the burst of emotions that her mother must be feeling at the moment. Her father, on the other hand, has always been adept at masking his emotions effectively after sitting through countless hours of board meetings that require him to navigate the ruthless ways of the major shareholders.
Their footsteps echoed as they entered the columbarium. There weren't a lot of people inside, probably because of the fact that the work day is still isn't over yet.
Dasom lets her mom cling to her arm as they walk towards Hyunseo's spot, with Baekhyun and her dad leading the way.
She lets her eyes travel around the many epitaphs placed on the third floor, wondering about the causes of their deaths and how the loved ones that they left behind were able to cope up with the grief brought upon by their passing.
Even though it's been three years, Dasom is aware that none of them have completely moved on from Hyunseo's untimely death.
Looking back, her sister's words to her on her wedding day made sense. Hyunseo already knew what was happening to her. Instead of spending her last days in the hospital, she decided to take the risk by enjoying it with the love of her life and experiencing genuine happiness with the family she made with Baekhyun. Until now, Dasom can't help but wonder if Hyunseo will be able to live longer if she didn't push through with the marriage and just decided to battle her sickness. But then again, if that's what she did, she'd probably die with regrets— something that Dasom never wanted for her sister.
"Hyunseo, honey, how are you?" Hearing her dad talk to her sister's smiling photograph prompted a tsunami of emotions to overwhelm Dasom. If it wasn't for her mom clinging to her arm, she'd probably be crying her eyes out by now.
She sneaks a glance in the direction of where Baekhyun is standing beside her dad. As expected, his face was void of any emotions and he looks like a robot awaiting to be controlled for his next moves.
Dasom remembers hating Baekhyun for not doing anything to force her sister to undergo treatments before her condition got worse. She hated him even more when he didn't bother to shed a single tear throughout Hyunseo's wake. And she hated him the most when Baekhyun just left his wife's funeral, leaving a two-year-old Dahyun crying loudly for her late mother, off to somewhere else.
She honestly thought that Baekhyun did not care at all.
Who in their right mind would leave their only child alone in a moment of grieving? Only him. But then again, Dasom hasn't met a lot of widowed men aside from Baekhyun so she realized then that she judged him way too early.
So seeing him look so emotionless right now doesn't make her hate him. Instead, it makes her pity him.
They all have their own ways of grieving— it's just that Baekhyun's way is not the stereotypical way of grieving commonly accepted by society.
After her parents talked with Hyunseo and Dasom placing the bouquet of daisies she bought, she motions for her parents to leave first so that they can give way for Baekhyun to have a short moment with his wife.
When they exited the place, Dasom received quite an outrageous question from her dad, causing her to raise her voice at him much to her mom's displeasure. "What?!"
"Dasom, that's disrespectful to your father. Apologize to him this instant."
Dasom purses her lips, admitting to her mistake. "I'm sorry, appa."
Lowering her head, Dasom hears her dad release a short laugh, "It's fine, darling. I'm sure you were surprised by my question earlier that's why you reacted that way."
Of course, which person would not find it weird if your parent suddenly started asking you about how you view your brother-in-law as a man?
With their five-year age gap, Dasom has always looked up to Baekhyun as an older brother she acquired through her sister's marriage. It's a given that their cat-dog relationship ensued because of how much they want to get Hyunseo's attention to theirs, but more than that relationship? Just attempting to think beyond that line is already making Dasom have goosebumps all over her body.
Although, she must admit that she did find Baekhyun quite attractive when her sister first introduced him to the family. But even though she developed a tiny crush on him, Dasom brushed it away immediately since she doesn't want to stand in the way of her sister's happiness. She can never do that to Hyunseo. She loves her sister too much to harbor romantic feelings for the guy she likes.
"Why are you suddenly asking me such a question, appa?"
For the first time after a long while, Dasom didn't like the way her dad smiles. It's as if he's trying to tell her something that she ought to know but is just holding himself back for some unknown reasons.
That's why she can't refrain from asking, "Appa, what's wrong?" Dasom turns to her mother, "Are you guys not telling me something?"
Her mom places a gentle hand on her arm, squeezing it with a soft smile. "You'll know about it soon, Som. But for now, I want you to promise us something."
A promise? "What promise?"
Dasom watches as her father takes hold of her free hand. "No matter what happens, you won't blame us. You can hate us for whatever reason but you must never blame us, or even disown us as your parents. Understood?"
Suddenly, she feels as if she's back again five years ago inside Hyunseo's waiting room, with an hour left to spare before the wedding ceremony starts.
This conversation feels too familiar for her liking.
It's as if people asking her to promise something is foresight for the universe taking them away from her in a blink of an eye.
She doesn't want to answer.
She's afraid that if she will, then something bad will happen to her parents. She barely recovered from her sister's death even though it's been three years already, how so if the time will come when both her parents will be taken away from her especially when she's not that ready to let go of them yet? This cannot happen.
But she can't disappoint them.
Dasom connects her eyes with her mom's expecting ones, making her chest ache just thinking about her parents' possible reactions if she doesn't agree to whatever it is they're pertaining to.
"Okay."

Now let’s say it’s not Varys who goes to him but reader…he might thing she’s there to free him but no! Dungeon Sex!
@dorkybimbo dayum!!!! so much ANGST!!!!

It's been three days since the Hand of the King, Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell, has been accused of treason and thrown into the dungeons under the Red Keep. Y/N misses him, predictably, and curses herself for her stupidity. She KNEW he was beyond saving, and yet she's made enough place for him in her heart to let herself be wounded by his downfall, and that's being fucking weak. And she hates that.
Since Lord Stark is gone, she's lost her most generous patron, and so Baelish has been using her as his personal cumdump of the week. One time, when she's sucking his dick, he's feeling talkative.
"You know the poor idiot tried to pay your debt? He wanted to buy your freedom, he though I'd let you go if he just asked nicely".
Y/N chokes on his cock. Lord Stark did WHAT?
"Yes," Baelish snorts, misinterpreting her reaction. "I thought that was funny too," he muses. "I only regret that I didn't get to fuck you in the ass with him as our audience. Maybe I'd even invite him to join us, if I was feeling cruel enough."
****
The only things Ned's had for the past five days were moldy bread and water from a puddle in his cell. But the worst of the worst are the constant thoughts of his daughters. Are they safe? Is Catelyn, and everyone in at Winterfell safe? And... What became of Y/N? Was she named his conspirator? Will she suffer too, more than she already has?
One of his questions, at least, is promptly answered, when the lock on the iron door ratles, and next thing Ned knows is no other than Y/N herself that enters his cell. She looks good, no worse for the wear, and that lessens his burden some.
"I doubt Littlefinger's courtesy extends to this prison cell," Ned says bitterly, "so tell me, on whose behalf are you here?"
"The Queen's," her answer comes. "She means to offer you mercy if you bend the knee and don black," she pauses and sighs before continuing, "and I, for one, think you should agree."
"Why?" asks Ned. "What good will it do? It'll only perpetuate her lies and strenghten her position."
"But you'd live," she says quietly, and Ned feels something warm in his chest at the thought that she cares whether he lives or dies. He can no longer hold back from spilling his thoughts. "Tell me, what of my daughters? Are they safe?" he asks quietly.
"They're wards of the crown now, and Sansa is still betrothed to Joffrey," Ned scowls, hearing that. "They're safe as can be, given the circumstances, but that may yet change. Which is why you should take the deal."
"Promise me you'll get them out," he pleads, past caring for any dignity of his. "Please, grant me this one thing. They should not suffer for my choices."
She doesn't even hesitate that long bofore aqueiscing, and that's another surprise for Ned. He's not known her to be self-sacrificing. "I'll try," she simply says, and takes a tentative step in his direction. "Ned," she says, and he thinks his name sounds lovely on her lips. She's never called him simply Ned before, but then, much has changed since he's las seen her. "Did you try to settle my debt with Baelish?"
It pains Ned that she sounds so surprised and disbelieving. She had so little faith in him, and still he managed to let her down. He's disgusted with himself.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I have failed you," he drops his head to hide his shame. "I... my assets have been seized, but Ser Jory still has some of my coin. Go to him, he knows that a part of it was meant for you. It's not that much, but maybe it..." he stops only when he feels her graceful finger touch his mouth.
"Shhh," she soothes him, cradling his head in her arms. When has she gotten so close?
He shies away from her first kiss. He's had only rats for companions for some nights and he's... not his best self at the moment. Even so, she starts unlacing his shift, undeterred. He covers his embarrassment with sarcasm.
"And on who's bidding you're acting now? Who do I thank? Baelish? The Queen? Is this some new torture of their design?" Ned did not mean to sound so bitter, but he's at his wits' end. He knows he's going to die soon, and that she's in the employ of his enemies, and that for Catelyn's sake alone he should refuse her. But he's only a man, and he's wanted her for so long, and her touch... it feels heavenly.
She kisses him on the mouth, then. And he just can't help himself.
"No, Ned," she says softly against his lips, as she snakes her hand into his breeches. "This one's for me. For us."
listen I'm sorry for being horny in your asks for the past few days I just caught the hots for the wolf man its a condition pray for me ya'll. that and your blog feels like a safe space to fantasise <3

ooc. so, no one asked for a milf oc but i will write a milf oc haha. and f/e a/wakening oc too hoho.
description:
Rahma is born in Plegia to Samer and Toqa, two spices merchants. She grew up helping her parents in their modest shop and when she got older, Rahma found the human body fascinating. Her interest was piqued when she noticed the shop's regulars' orders. Some would buy weak spices, and some would buy stronger ones. She would stop them and ask why they prefer this over that.
This continued to become a doctor. Rahma was known for her particularness; at first, she would treat everyone that comes to her clinic, but afterward, she got bored of the same old 'symptoms' and the way she treats them. That's why she stopped seeing people with common illnesses and paid attention to strange and odd illnesses.
This increased when the war between Plegia and Ylisse happened. Rahma was in her late twenties during the war. She helped to tend to the injured soldiers and people. Her obsession flourished when she saw all these test subjects around her and no one is the wiser if she did an experiment or two on them in the name of medicine.
Her actions were known and people were displeased with her and came after her. Rahma had to flee out of Plegia and use the war between the two nations to escape to Valm as it was the 'safest' choice and farthest from the two countries. Ferox was a choice but she didn't want to risk someone of the merchant guild to find her there.
In Valm, Rahma took her time to understand the consequences of her actions. She stayed in an inn which is run by an old lady who took care of her as if she was her daughter. Slowly, Rahma told her everything and the old lady didn't judge her but she told her the best way to atone is to acknowledge the wrongdoing, and if she wants to go back and ask for forgiveness then that's the second step. Rahma, who as soon as she could, changed her name and look, now is called Amina. She waited until the war has calmed down and the aftermath lessened. She kept in touch with whatever is happening between the two countries. When Emmeryn came to succession, news of her goodwill traveled to Valm. That encouraged Amina to travel back to Plegia and figure out a way to atone for her past actions.
Amina lives in a border village between Ylisse and Plegia in fear someone might recongize her still. She is yet to summon her courage to go back and apologize. It has been almost 20 years yet she cannot make the move.
She can do anything in the village she stays in but anything related to medicine she will pretend she does not know. She developed a bad habit in which she neglected her wounds or cuts if she sustained any. The thought of going back to being a doctor and being found out scares her beyond words.
During her stay in the village, a couple of men tried to court her but she keeps denying everyone's advances. she rather focuses on the lonesome atoning journey to bind another person in her hell life. despite that, she is seen as a mother figure to the kids around the village, something she finds burdening because she cannot see herself as a mother, heck making a family and being with someone. who would accept her sins?
note: if your muse finds out about her past they are free to do whatever they think is right. however, do not just use this information whenever you like without a proper build-up to that point. yes, your muse can call her a coward and i dont mind. she needs the reality slap haha

I’ve read and reread Eddie’s Ex and I definitely agree with @slightlyvicked. If there is a part 2, I definitely want Reader to move on from Eddie and live her best life without him.
Let’s be real. He, of all people, should know that the people who provided genetic material doesn’t mean they’re family. Wayne was more of a father to him than his actual “father”. So for him to tell Reader that she isn’t Sav’s actual mom was a DICK move.
😤 Okay, I had to calm down. For real, I felt for Reader. She’s been in love with Eddie for the longest time and, whether he knows it or not, he kept taking advantage of her. And he didn’t even see Reader as more than a friend until Savannah was 2-years-old. Reader deserves better than that.
She was right there the whole time! Does he like her for her? Or does he like her because she’s raising Savannah with him and lightening the burden of parenting?
As I said before, because she’s Savannah’s mom in all the ways that matter, she’s still going to be present in her daughter’s life. But I definitely would enjoy a part 2 where Eddie has to deal with the fallout of how he treated Reader when Leah returned and watch her live her own life without him. Because, as someone who has been on the sidelines of an unrequited love, he deserves to sit and watch while Reader is being romantically pursued.
Anyway, I definitely enjoyed the fic and I wouldn’t mind if there’s a part 2. Thank you!
Thank you for the feedback!
I agree. When I came up with the idea, I knew that Eddie isn't the type of character to ever do that. But I needed him to do it for the idea to work lol.
And the doubt definitely sets in. Did he fall in love with her as a person? Or the idea of her being around made it easier to have the family that he wanted?
What I really liked that I did, was make Sav see the reader as her only mother. And always using the things she's learned from her. She doesn't ever talk about what Eddie taught her, only what her mom did.
I think when Sav starts to realize her mom isn't coming back she'd have words with Eddie. And beg to see her. Beg her dad to bring her mommy home. And just tear Eddie to shreds on the inside.
I could definitely see the reader moving on. She finally got to see what it was like to love Eddie Munson. She doesn't have to live in the "what if" of it anymore. She's been there and done. I think that would help her move on.
She'd never give up on Sav and SHE WILL SEE WICKED WITH HER DAUGHTER DAMNIT!
But a part 2 doesn't sound bad, I just am always scared. You can write this beautiful piece of work and try to add to it. And it will either make the piece of art stronger, or lessen the value of the original. So I'm always anxious to which fics I allow a part 2 for
But I am overwhelmed with tears when you guys always tell me your thoughts and feelings on it. I love that you guys take your own time to read random shit I wrote. It means the world 💕
