quick idea/brainrot i just had bc i got side tracked while writing the main thing:
viktor has a thing for your touch, use this to your advantage to ground him. if he's caught up in his work; so far gone as to miss a meal or two, maybe even a day of sleep as well, put your hand on his shoulder and watch as he turns to you. utterly exhausted with bags under his eyes and looking as pale as a ghost. tell him it's time to rest. use your free hand to meet one of his, gently guide it to the table so he puts the tool down. of course he'll find some way to protest; say this is an important project, there's simply no time to rest when piltover depends on him and his work—or more realistically, it's jayce whos depending on him.
"You have time for all that," you remind him. he'll shake his head and you'll stop it by holding his face, forcing him to stare down into your eyes. "viktor," your voice is soft and sweet but stern, thumbs caressing his cheeks as you continue, "please, let me take you home." it'll take a minute, maybe up to three, for him to reach up to your hands; letting the cold palms of his cup the warm backs of yours as he leans into them, heavy eyes falling shut, he mutters a quiet "okay."

Icarus Part 2
Hello! This story is coming along quite nicely. This part originally was part of the first chapter, but it got so long I split it up for Tumblr.
Dustin hyperfixates sooo hard in this. Eddie gets annoyed.
Part 1
@mira-jadeamethyst @rozzieroos @itsall-taken @redfreckledwolf @emly03
****
Dustin leapt to his feet and handed the magazine to Eddie. “I do have their first album. It’s really good. My favorite is “Brother”. It’s just so touching.”
Steve bit his bottom lip and nodded, forcing himself not to look at Robin just then.
He came back with his Walkman and a pair of speakers. He got it all set up and pressed play. Then while they were listening to the CD, he dashed back to his room.
“I haven’t gotten their second album yet,” he shouted over his shoulder as he ran back. Moments later he came out with a couple of rolled posters.
“I have more of their posters in my dormroom but I bought these a few months ago and haven’t put them up yet.”
He unrolled one of them and it was the album cover blown up large. It had four men in long hooded coats and masks. There was definitely a color theme for each of the members of the band. The drummer was all in black, the guitarist in red, the bassist in blue, and the lead singer in white.
“What’s with the masks?” Robin asked, leaning over Steve’s shoulder.
Dustin bounced up and down. “That’s part of their personas. They’re fallen angels. Well, and titan. The bassist is named after the titan of the night sky, Astraeus. But all the others are named after angels.”
Eddie winced at the poster. “They’re a little much, don’t you think?”
“Like there aren’t other metal bands wear makeup or masks before them,” Dustin said rolling his eyes.
Eddie wrinkled his nose. He did know. It was actually something that was really prevalent in the genre for awhile. He just thought it was gimmicky and took away from the actual music.
Music that was coming out of Dustin’s Walkman in beautiful waves. That brought Eddie up short. They were good. Like amazingly good. “Whoa.”
Dustin beamed. “I know, right?”
Steve made a twisted kind of frown. “I mean it’s great if you like that sort of thing.”
Dustin whirled on Steve like a viper sensing its dinner. “Just because you don’t like metal, Steve,” he huffed in derision, “doesn’t mean that you can just dismiss it.”
Steve looked over at Eddie and rolled his eyes.
Eddie snorted. “Nobody is dismissing anything, Dusty. In fact I would say that what Steve said was anything but dismissive.”
“I just don’t know why you don’t like metal,” Dustin replied with a heavy sigh. “I know that if you just listened to it, you would like it.”
This time the look Steve shared was with Robin. “I’ve listened to a lot of metal, remember? You’re the one that hacked my radio so that I couldn’t change it off the metal station.”
Dustin snorted. “Well at least Simon and Shane have taste.”
Simon Olsen and Shane Kendrick were two friends of Steve’s that had bonded over Corroded Coffin playing over the speakers of the coffee shop. Another thing that Dustin had insisted on. But Steve wasn’t about to tell Eddie that. Together with Spencer Peters, the four of them were almost as tight as the Corroded Coffin boys.
Eddie himself was conflicted about their relationship, if he was honest. Yeah, it was great that Steve had friends outside of the Party, but at same time, he suspected that at least one of them was gay or bisexual and he worried that they would swoop in and take Steve off the market before Eddie got up the courage.
That was a problem for future Eddie, present Eddie had to redirect Dustin before he began screaming at Steve all the reasons he should join the masses of fans for Corroded Coffin and now apparently The Fallen. Steve had a migraine and Dustin’s ranting would only make it worse.
Eddie smacked his shoulder. “Am I still taking you out with me in June to see your mom when I go visit Uncle Wayne?”
Dustin was happy to change tracks, and Steve mouthed ‘Thank you’ to Eddie.
“Yes! You have to take me,” Dustin insisted. “Ma got me tickets to see The Fallen in Indy while I’m there and I don’t want to miss it.”
“The band is going back on tour again so soon?” Eddie asked, tilting his head to the side. “I thought they just got off a tour.”
“They did,” Dustin agreed. “But according to the press release, they said that they were trying to get as much hype for their current album as possible because music sales were down all over the place.”
Eddie nodded. He could see that. With a band as new as The Fallen, if they didn’t keep up the momentum they could lose a lot of fans between their first and second album. There was a reason a band’s second album is often called a ‘sophomore slump’ and if these guys wanted to avoid that, that meant touring nonstop for their second album.
He wished them well...provided they didn’t steal Dustin away from him and the guys. He turned to Steve. “So what are you and Robin going to be this summer? Anything fun?”
Robin scoffed. “No. They’ve got us back on tour, too. New management, they want us to shadow this band and basically make sure that everything they want is provided.”
Eddie and Dustin grimaced.
“That sucks!” Dustin huffed. “You guys just got home, why are they making you go so soon? Don’t they believe in breaks? Sheesh!”
Steve hugged him close. “I’m sorry, bud. I talked to your mom, though and she thinks that when you go back for the summer, she’s willing to let you apply for MIT for your masters.”
Dustin’s eyes lit up. “Wait, seriously?” Claudia had always been fearful that he would get into trouble, but she had seen how much work he had put into his school work and how much Steve didn’t need to be looking after the almost twenty year old.
Steve nodded. “Yup. That’s why she got you the tickets as a way to soothe her nerves a bit.”
Eddie looked over Dustin’s shoulder at Steve and they shared a sad smile. They would miss Dustin when he went out to Boston, but they knew he would shine out there. And that was worth more than all the stars in the sky.
Eddie left soon after, stating his own fatigue and even though Steve was sad to see him go, he wanted to sleep for the next three months. Dustin was staying over at his girlfriend’s that night which left him alone with Robin.
He glanced at his watch. It was almost ten and he looked up at Robin with his big puppy dog eyes and pouted.
She let out a long sigh. “Fine. You can go to bed. Provided you actually get a shower and brush your teeth. By that time it should be late enough for you to just crash.”
Steve sighed, but nodded his agreement. He got unsteadily to his feet and ambled over to his bedroom. Robin followed close behind.
She leaned against the door frame, watching Steve gather his things for his shower.
“So Dustin is a Fallen fan, huh,” she muttered.
Steve shrugged. “I guess so. This is the first of me hearing about it, so it must be new.”
She licked her lips. “And you aren’t worried?”
He stopped what he was doing and straightened up. “Why? Do you think there is a reason to be?”
Robin crossed her arms. “I mean his nickname growing up was ‘genius child’. It’s possible he could be a problem.”
Steve scoffed. “He’s also the one that harped on us being a couple for a few years there.”
She winced. She had even told him that she was gay and he still wouldn’t let it go. “Yeah, that’s fair.”
He walked over to the en suite bathroom and turned on the hot water. “I love that kid, but he has a few major blind spots when it comes to actual people.”
“All right,” she said, nodding. “I’ll tighten up the defenses, but I think you’re right.”
“I am right some of the time,” Steve scoffed. “You do know that, don’t you?”
Robin rolled her eyes. “I guess even a broken clock can be right twice a day.”
Steve stuck his tongue out at her and then began to strip. Robin just waved at him and wandered over to her side of the apartment. Well to call it that was an understatement on its sheer size. It would be better described as a penthouse.
It only had three bedrooms, but it had three bathrooms, a full sized kitchen, an actual dinning area, a living room. Steve’s studio was off to the side and always kept locked. It even had a god damned bio lock that only Robin and he could open.
He hated the secrecy and all the cloak and dagger bullshit but it was absolutely imperative.
But the room was massive and no one had clocked that as unusual. Steve sighed deeply. It was what it was and what it was, sucked.
****
To say that Eddie was annoyed was an understatement. The whole flight to Indy and the long drive to Hawkins was filled with nothing but talk about The Fallen and their latest album. It was shooting up the charts faster than Eddie could guess the Metallica song from a few hummed bars. Which was pretty damned fast.
Steve and Robin had already gone, so Eddie didn’t even have his favorite distraction when Dustin got on his latest hyperfixation.
Then the other shoe dropped when he pulled up to the Henderson’s driveway.
“You’re coming with me, right?” the little bastard asked, all pouty lip and puppy dog eyes.
“Why don’t you ask one of your friends to go with you?” Eddie huffed, more than little pissed the punk dared to ask.
Dustin rolled his eyes and started counting off on his fingers. “El and Mike won’t get in in time, Max and Lucas already have plans that night, her mom is getting married for the third time that day, and Will doesn’t like metal. He’s still a staunch alt rock fan.”
Eddie winced. And with Steve and Robin off to parts unknown, he really was Dustin’s last greatest hope. But he wasn’t going to give in that easy. He was going to make the butthead work for it. He crossed his arms and pouted.
“I don’t know, man,” Eddie said, wrinkling his nose, “I’m starting to wonder if Corroded Coffin is even on your radar anymore.”
Dustin’s jaw dropped. “What? That’s not true! Corroded Coffin is my number one. How could even suggest that?”
Eddie raised an eyebrow. “Do you want me to list the reasons alphabetically or chronologically?”
Dustin’s mouth closed with a snap. He ducked his head. “I haven’t stopped talking about The Fallen since you picked me up from Steve’s, huh?”
“Nope!”
He let out a slow breath. “Fuck. I’m sorry, Eddie. I’m just so excited for this concert. According to Ma the tickets were really hard to get and now I don’t have anyone to go with me and I–” He sniffled.
“It’s just you know how you get with new things,” Eddie pointed out.
Dustin nodded. “I know. But I promise I still love Corroded Coffin. When are you guys going back into the studio?”
Eddie smiled for the first time that trip. “After I get back from visiting Wayne, I’ve got a couple songs already lined up for it.”
“And how many of those songs are about Steve?” Dustin asked, raising an eyebrow.
Eddie cheeks colored a deep red. “I’ll tell you what, I’ll go to that concert of yours and you don’t mention to anyone that I write songs about Steve, deal?”
Dustin tilted his head to side and looked up, tapping his lips thoughtfully. He stuck out his hand and Eddie shook it.
“Deal.”

King Under Your Control-An Azris Playlist
It's the final entry to the ACOTAR Playlist Project? Can you believe?!
I wanted to finish with a bang. Azris, the crackship to end them all. I'm also of the opinion that Azris has some of the best writers in this fandom, and this playlist is for them. This tracklist was inspired by all of the art and fics I've been blown away by. @iftheshoef1tz, @ofduskanddreams, @secret-third-thing, and @krem-does-stuff specifically. But there are too many to name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LISTEN HERE and take a look at the tracklist behind the cut!

Hey could you do one a little angsty with fluff one with Lizzie, i Saw a tiktok video now when he said "my heart calls your name" it's from Queen Charlotte.
Yn having a very difficult childhood and trying to live on their own at very young age, they audicionate for some movies and tv shows and they were starting to be a little famous, so for that they got casted in a marvel movie, they get very well with their costars, being really good friends with all of them.
Yn started to like Lizzie more than a friend but they know when the finish to shoot 'endgame' it will not gonna be the same for them so they decide to say nothing. They talked a lot about it with Scarlett. Yn decided to have some distance with Lizzie and at first It was okay because everyone were together but she noticed and tried to talk to them. It was like that until the endgame premiere. In the morning everyone were at the hotel, she was tired and went to yn's room and tried for last time. Yn said like nothing happened and Lizzie confronted them for their attitude, giving them an ultimatum, they didn't open their mouth so Lizzie took that as a clue and go out of their room, when yn saw that, they said like a little speech, saying their feelings( and then 'my heart calls your name') and Lizzie turn around and kissed yn.
Yeez sorry for writing too much, i know if you want to do it, you will do an amazing job or if you want to use something i wrote and improve it, it will be ok. Thank you buddy xxx
Pining
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Olsen x GN! Reader
Warnings: Fluff. Long pining. A little angst.
18+ MINORS DNI
Y/N hadn't had the best childhood, filing for emancipation when they were just a teenager to get away from their obsessive parents. They cut them off from everything, having their manager handle their assets and bills since they were still a minor. So it wasn't a shock when they had gotten a role in the Avengers.
They had became great friends with Scarlett as they played the illigitimate child of Tony Stark. So as soon as they became friends with Lizzie, it wasn't unusual for them to fall for her. Well who wouldn't, but she was already in a relationship.
Y/N tried not to fall harder for the green eyed angel, but they were doomed. Everytime she spoke, they were always listening even if it was something completely stupid. Their eyes sparkled everytime she laughed. They were always smiling whenever she was around.
Even as the started to film CW, they had decided it was best to distance themselves from her. Always confiding in Scarlett about her.
"I just hate this feeling Scar." They told her sadly as they sat in her trailer. "I just everytime I see her, I want to kiss her and I can't because she isn't mine and she never will be."
"Y/N, I'm sure this will pass." She tried to reassure them.
"This isn't just some crush Scar." They told her. "I have had my fair share of meaningless crushes and this isn't the same." They stood up, straightening out the creases of their clothes. "I'm uh I'm gonna go." They told her softly as Scarlett sighed as she watched them leave.
As the time went on, Y/N had always rejected cast outings and get togethers. Not wanting to really be in the same room as Lizzie. Even when they heard about her split with Boyd, they fought every instinct to run and comfort her, so they left her be.
Even when Endgame came around, the end of their contract was also approaching. On some level they felt relieved but on another, they were saddened by the thought of not even being around her.
Their scenes were only few, so they never really crossed paths with Lizzie. Although she was saddened by their sudden absence in her life since CW. She wanted an explanation. She deserved an explanation.
"You're their best friend Scar." She pleaded with Scarlett who sighed.
"Listen Lizzie, I'm not getting in the middle of the two of you." She told her. "You just need to reach out to them." Lizzie left it at that, even with the re-shoots, she never crossed paths with them so she only had the option she had was to wait for the premiere.
So she dressed in her green dress, ready to walk down the carpet. Her eyes instantly found Y/N, even as she participated in her interviews and photos. She hoped to catch them before the movie, only to be dragged away by some of the other cast. She watched as Y/N left the theatre earlier, so she decided to follow them. She soon followed them into an empty hallway before she called their name, watching as they slowed down and their shoulders tense up.
"What is wrong with you?" Lizzie questioned, she was extremely hurt by their sudden absence and needed answers. "We used to be friends and then all of a sudden, you disappear. Not a single word on why you disappeared, just poof."
"Lizzie." They tried as she shook her head.
"Do you know that I tried and tried to think of were I went wrong. Wondering all of the time what I did to push you away." She told them, her voice shaking with pain and anger. "What did I do?" She whispered as Y/N looked at her with guilt and regret in her eyes.
"You didn't do anything." They told her as Lizzie just looked confused. "It was me and my own conflicting feelings."
"What?" Lizzie whispered as they shook their head.
"It doesn't matter." They told her before they turned away.
"It does matter! Please don't walk away. Tell me." She followed them, not anticipating the closeness between the two as they turned back to face her.
"I love you Lizzie. I am in love with you." They exclaimed as she remained frozen. "I thought I would get over it but I couldn't. I didn't because you have somehow etched your name on my heart. My heart beats for you Elizabeth. It." They sighed as they looked in her eyes. "It hurts when we are so close and it hurts when we are so far apart. I just. Forget it." With that they started to walk away, only to be stopped by Lizzie, cupping their face as she looked in their eyes. Leaning in and capturing their lips in a soft and meaningful kiss.
"I am in love with you too." She whispered as she gazed in their eyes. "For so long I have been in love with you." They kissed her softly once more before the two decided to sneak out of the theatre, ending their night as they walked hand in hand under the moonlight.

Facetime With My Mom (Tonight)
Part 3 of On The Inside With Elizabeth Olsen
Word Count: ~2.6K
masterlist
Robbie POV
Waking up on the floor from my drunken stupor at five in the evening is not how I'd expect today to go. But it's what I deserve after the things I said to Lizzie. My love. My fiance. I didn't mean to hurt her. I wanted to let her know what I was feeling, but I was chasing her out of our Richmond home before I knew it.
That was three days ago.
I know by now she's back home. Or at least I hope. She has yet to call or text me, and I don't blame her. But I know she misses me, and I love her. I'm not going to give up.
_
After giving myself a much-needed shower and putting some of Lizzie's gross anchovy toast into my stomach, I decided to sit on our bed and call her. It's six now, so L.A. time it's..... ten in the morning. She'll probably be gardening, taking care of her little kiddos. She hates it when I call them that, but everyone knows she can be such a mom.
Okay, stop stalling, Robbie.
I unlock my phone and go to our text messages. My heart breaks a little looking at the last several texts I sent her. All left on DELIVERED.
I click on the call button, and to my surprise, I hear her angelic voice.
L: "Hello."
R: "Lizzie! Are you safe?"
L: "Yes, I am."
I can feel tension over the phone. I pause, thinking about how I want this conversation to continue.
R: "Lizzie I-."
L: "Why are you calling me?"
R: "Well, I haven't heard anything from you for three days, Lizzie. I was starting to get worried."
I hear Lizzie let out a heavy breath.
L: "Were you starting to get worried, or are you worried? There's a clear difference and let's not forget that you were the one that said you were having second thoughts and-"
She's right.
R: "Lizzie, I'm sorry. I know I hurt you, but that was not my intention-"
I hear Lizzie, and someone else starts laughing before Lizzie shushes whoever else is with her.
R: "Lizzie, are you laughing at me? Who are you with?"
L: "No, I'm not laughing at you, Robbie. Something funny just happened in front of me. Look, listen, I got to go. We can finish this talk later."
R: "Wait, Liz-"
L: "Alright."
R: "Elizabeth, I love you."
L: "Alright. See you later."
She didn't say it. The line goes dead. Once again, I'm left alone with my thoughts. I drop my phone onto our bed and begin dragging my feet into the kitchen. I grab the nearest bottle of brown bourbon, making a promise to myself to drink until I can't remember.
Y/N POV
I close the door to my apartment and lean my back against it. I let out the one squeal I've been holding in since she left me earlier. I know I shouldn't be freaking out. I mean, yes, it's a date, but it's not like a date date, right? We're just friends.
But she is insanely attractive, dresses so cool, her voice is soothing and cute, plus she makes me so comfortable and omg, I need to pick out an outfit! I sprint into my bedroom and rush head first into the closet.
"Now she said I don't have to wear anything too fancy, but what does that reallllly mean?"
I rip out half of my closet, searching for the perfect item, and after an hour, nothing calls to me. I flop myself onto the pile of clothes on my bed in frustration. Without realizing it, I begin to call my Mom.
M: "Y/N, are you alright?"
Y/N: "Yes, Mom, I'm fine. I just need some help."
M: "Some help? Help with what, darling?"
Y/N: "I'm going out with a friend tonight, and I have no idea what to wear!"
M: "This is what you called me about? Seriously?"
Y/N: "Yes, seriously, Mom. It's important, please!"
M: "Okay, Y/N."
Y/N: "Okay, let's switch to FaceTime."
M: "How do I do that again?"
After painfully walking my Mom through the simple steps of modern technology, she begins to help me. However, over a half hour later, I quickly realized that she has no idea how I dress and what looks good. So I'm sadly back to step one.
M: "Y/N."
Y/N: "Yes." I responded, frustrated.
M: "If you're going to continue having an attitude, I'll hang up. I raised you better than that."
I walk off screen to mock her and throw my hands up at her.
M: "Y/N?"
I walk back in frame so she can see me.
Y/N: "You're right. I'm sorry." I lie.
M: "That's okay. Now, what about the black piece under your Taylor Swift Cardigan?"
I look for what she is talking about. Oh, this! I pick it up and hold it up to the camera.
M: "What do you think?"
I do like it, but I don't think it's good enough for Liz, but she told me not to wear anything too fancy. So I guess this should be okay? Plus, it's black, and black looks good all the time, right? I'm so tired of looking at my clothes, so this will have to do.
Y/N: "I think it could work. Thank you, Mom!"
M: "Of course, dear. Y/N promise me you'll call soon so we can have an honest talk about your life.
No.
Y/N: I promise
M: Now go get ready!"
Y/N: "Okay. Bye, Mom! Love you!"
M: "Love you too."
After hanging up with my Mom, a rush of panic runs over me as I realize how many texts I've missed from Liz.

Hey, I am so sorry! Yes, I'm alive. I just saw these texts!!! I just got off the phone with my Mom. She was helping me pick out an outfit for our date! I'm so excited! I just clicked on the link, and it's somewhere I've never been to, so now I'm extra excited!
The link could've been to a fucking Mcdonald's, and I would've still said what I awkwardly said.
Oh shit, she's typing.
Y/N, omg, I'm so glad you're alright. I swear I was about to go search all over the city.
I'm so so so sorry for making you worry! Can you forgive me?
I'll think about it! Okay, I thought about it. Yeah, I forgive you lol
(Aww, that's cute. She still uses lol)
Whew, thank you, Liz
So do you like it?
Like what?
My name in your phone?
It's perfect.
😊 so you going to tell me what you're wearing tonight or is it a surprise?
Hmmmmmm A surprise But don't expect something crazy
😒 finneeee
Hey, I don't need any sas from you, Miss.
I'm glad you remembered Miss not Ma'am like a good girl. So I'll see you at 7. Don't be late
I practically throw my phone across the room after reading that last text! Good girl! Good girl, she said! She has to know what she's doing! Right? Fuck, this actually might be a date date! How me? Why me? Oh shit, I need to start getting ready NOW!
After giving myself the most needed shower in history, I sat on the floor debating on what shoes I wanted to pair with my black bishop sleeve dress. I think heels would work, but I hate wearing them, so I'm going to hedge my bet and wear my black vans to match. Liz did say it wasn't too fancy of a place!
I slip on the dress and walk into my bathroom to look myself over once more. Even before Naomi ruined me, I don't think I ever looked at myself more than I have tonight. It was not exactly easy when all you've been told is how unattractive you are and how lucky you should be that even be graced in the presence of someone who was supposed to love you no matter what.
I reach my hand out and touch the mirror of my hand. Yep this person looking back at me is me. Tonight I don't look at myself with hate and disgust. This is a moment I hope to save. I look down at my counter space and search through all my bathroom drawers and cabinets until I spot my make-up bag.
"Let's do this, huh?"

Liz POV
Tumblr media
(What Liz is wearing tonight and awww, look cute, Aubrey)
"I should've just had someone pick her up. What was I thinking?" I look at my phone - 7:04. Where the hell is she? I run my hand through my hair. "Y/N would've told me if she was backing out. She's probably rushing to get here. I trust her." I put my head into my hands. My mind is spiraling into a panic, and the constant thoughts of the last three days don't help. But seeing and meeting Y/N has been a bright light. Literally, since I saw her that first day, I can't help but think of her being all cute while reading my order back to me. I feel drawn to her, and I can't explain it.
"Liz?"
I look up, and it's her. She's here!
"Y/N!" I walk up to her and hug her. I feel like I caught her off guard because the hug she gives me back isn't a full one. "You ready?"
"Yeah, sorry I'm a little late. I got turned around at one point, and........" I hear her, and I'm trying to process what she is saying, but it's slowly becoming gibberish as my eyes start wondering. Y/N is doing things to me right now. Who knew just a black dress and vans could look so good on someone. My eyes work back to her face and her cherry-red-covered lips. She's beautiful.
"Liz?" Y/N breaks my thoughts. "We going inside?" I nod, grab her hand, and head in. I make a beeline to the hostess. The hostess looks us up and down with a stank face. Bitch.
"Name?"
Now for my favorite part. "MK," I say in my most bitchy voice. I watch from the corner of my eye Y/N look at me, confused, before looking back to the hostess, flustered and embarrassed.
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, Mar-MK. I didn't recognize you with your sunglasses on and your new friend. Please give me one moment." I watch her squirm and phone someone. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this.
The hostess ends the call as a waiter dressed in all-white tux approaches.
"Walter will be taking care of the two of you tonight. Once again, MK, I apologize for my ignorance tonight. I hope you and your friend can forgive me." The pleads fall on deaf ears as I pull Y/N to follow Walter to our private table.
I look back at Y/N, who has a face painted with amazement. Everyone in this place screams money, and I feel a little regret bringing Y/N to such a place on the first date. Once we reach our table, I pull a chair out for Y/N. She thanks me as I take a seat opposite her. Before Walter can even ask, I answer. "Red." Walter nods his head and disappears.
"Okay, what the fuck was all of that!" I don't think I've ever heard anyone this giddy before. I smile and explain that I used my sister's name to get us a table here and that fucking with the snobby people is all good fun. Y/N laughs, and it warms my heart to see that after seeing how she was at the park. Walter returns with two glasses and a handpicked bottle of Red.
"For you and your friend."
"Thank you, Walter." I address the man but stare at Y/N as she ogles everything around her. She's so cute.
"I shall be back momentarily." Walter leaves us, allowing my date with Y/N to begin properly.
I grab my glass as Y/N follows suit. "To tonight and everything that comes with it." Y/N and I share a smile as we each take a sip.
Comfortable silence begins to build. I don't mind because it gives me time to get lost thinking about the woman in front of me.
"So, do you just wear those sunglasses all the time, or are you hiding something?" I smirk at her question. "And what if I am hiding something?" She leans in. "Then I'd like for you to share it with me." Okay, Liz, moment of truth. I feel my nerves working their way up my body. Y/N would've known by now. I don't want to brag, but I'm Elizabeth Olsen!
I remove my sunglasses and set them on the table. I look Y/N straight in her eyes. I watch them go from eager to wide. Oh no. This was a mistake. "Wow." Is all Y/N can manage to spurt out of her mouth. I panic. "I know, Y/N! I feel like I should've to-"
"Your eyes." I stop in my tracks. "What Y/N?"
"Your eyes are so beautiful." Is this happening? "I mean, now I can clearly see you. You are so beautiful, Liz, but your eyes are like hiding their own little emerald forest inside them. Wow." I feel the butterflies inside of me multiply.
"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry- I shouldn't-" Y/N's eyes divert to the wine glass and then back to me. "What did Walter put in this?" Y/N asks, taking another sip, causing me to hunch over laughing. "Walter sure knows how to pick them, huh?" I respond, watching Y/N giggle to herself. Okay. So she really has no idea who I am.
"So the whole point of this dinner was to get to know each other. So let's start." I don't want to waste any more time. I want to know Y/N.
"Okay, I'll try not to struggle, but no promises, Liz." Y/N gives a half-hearted smile. She seems to get nervous when attention is shown her way. Or maybe it's just me? "Y/N, I just want you to know tonight is supposed to be fun, so there is no pressure here. Tell me if we get onto a topic you don't feel comfortable with. Okay?" I assure her. Y/N shines me a smile that could light up the world till the end of time. "Thank you, Liz."
"Of course. Let's each take a big sip of this wine, and then I'll ask a question." Without another word, a chug of wine goes down my throat. Y/N once again follows suit.

overly specific playlists for overly specific occasions 2024 edition
winter 23/24. dreamy mix of many different genres for when someone asks me hey what have you been listening to lately. old songs new songs happy songs sad songs everything from adrianne lenker to marco castello, a frequent rotation
lover. i definitely did NOT make this one to impress one specific person whose taste matches mine in the most miraculous of ways no no. but we will fall in love listening to beach house
fall for you. have you ever put on mitski i'm your man and leonard cohen i'm your man back to back. no? well here's your chance. and i can tell you more about this world, so much more
tasty tunes. synth-heavy dance tunes, good vibes. la femme, miel de montagne, LA priest etc. dinner party background groove
summer roads. one thing almost all of the tracks in this playlist have in common is that they were at some point featured in a skate vid. many classics (bob dylan, cocteau twins) modern classics (frank ocean, cass mccombs) and timeless jams (daniel johnston, mazzy star)
touch. this one's for lying on a big old sofa with your best friends half asleep drunk on love and too tired to go to bed. rhye, james blake, kevin morby
what's the last four years been about? when jockstrap said. What's it all about. i give you bon iver, i give you angel olsen, i give you fiona apple with the answers. i give you black country new road with the musical equivalent of a greek tragedy. dig in.
springsummer 23. don't recall what kind of headspace i was in for this one but we're feeling a wide range of emotions here. tamino and yo la tengo, andrew bird, dope lemon, king krule. the overarching theme may or may not being hopelessly in love with someone impossible
all the in between. mama you've been on my mind. another lovesick one. lots of oldies with new stuff sprinkles in, a short and sweet moment in time. might have cried to this playlist, or written notes app poetry.
transitional. it's raining and you're gazing out a train window dramatically, there is a sweet nostalgia in this but also darkness, rough around the edges. from amyl and the sniffers to flume, moodswings and movement.

short version | long version | spotify wrapped
short version is the link to what you see here, my helpfully abridged version. long version will lead you to the 141 song, 8 hour and 17 minute supercut playlist which i’ve been slowly cultivating since early january. spotify wrapped will lead you to a mixture of the long and the short version, which is honestly pretty accurate but does not helpfully represent my ear worms of the week. i also skewed my data for it by listening to the spiritfarer and hollow knight soundtracks on repeat to ease the wedding anxieties.
also fun fact, the cover for this year's mix is actually a picture of the tree outside our room during our wedding day.
under the cut are the lyrics that really resonated with me and only a little personal tidbits from this year, because let's be real, nobody cares.
i. thumbs || sabrina carpenter 'cause that's just the way of the world it never ends 'til the end and then you start again
This one was playing as we left the florence concert late last year and dogged me all through january and february last winter. ii. dragostea din tei || feuerschwanz Alo, salut, sunt eu un haiduc Si te rog iubirea mea primeste fericirea
Yes, it's a metal cover. Yes, I found it on tiktok. Yes, I love it unconditionally.
iii. edge of midnight || miley cyrus & stevie nicks The midnight sky is the road I'm takin' Head high up in the clouds (oh, oh)
There's THREE Miley Cyrus songs on here this year. Nuts. I really loved cranking this while driving home from Newark back when I was still hybrid. Much serotonin in those gray winter months. iv. warrior of the mind || jorge rivera-herrans & teagan earley Maybe one day they'll follow me and we'll Make a greater tomorrow, then they'll see Is it REALLY a surprise that Epic grabbed me by the throat this year?
v. happier than ever || kelly clarkson You ruined everything good Always said you were misunderstood Made all my moments your own Just fucking leave me alone I actually ended up hearing the Billie Eilish version of this first, but I ended up reading a post about how Billie's version was for the shitty boyfriend's of the world but Kelly's was to her mom and just. That resonated SO so much that it's stuck with me ever since. I have a complicated relationship with mine. She didn't come to my wedding this year. Anyway, definitely screamed this in my car on long drives. vi. flowers || miley cyrus i can buy myself flowers write my name in the sand
I need to preface this with the fact that my partner and I have a wonderful relationship that I wouldn't trade for the world. This song is still a fucking banger. vii. see you again || miley cyrus I got my sights set on you and I'm ready to aim I have a heart that will never be tamed
Third Miley song of the year, I believe all ear worms before March. I ended up getting in a Tiktok loop of body transformations set to this song while I was really getting into working with weights. It was great inspiration that I DEARLY needed that early into things. The song is also incredibly catchy. viii. six || six cast we're one of a kind, no category too many years lost in his story I honestly feel like we saw this musical last year but this song in particular dogged me into this one. ix. fairytale || joel sunny *instrumental*
Found this instrumental version of a much beloved song due to a random discover weekly and loved it so much that I seriously considered using it in my wedding. x. middle of the night || elley duhe Come, lay me down 'Cause you know this 'Cause you know this sound
Shh, it's the horny booktok song. I won't be shamed. xi. our light || lyn 夢を夢と気づいた夜 君を見つめ瞼を閉じる 温もりも重ねた手も声も 目覚めれば微睡みへと消えて
I have been trying to finish persona 5 royal since 2020. this year, i finally beat it. xii. it's terror time again || sesamoid Oh, you just might die of fright, It's a terrifying time.
Yes, it's a Scooby Doo remix. yes, I love it. xiii. eat your young || hozier I'm starving, darling Let me put my lips to something Let me wrap my teeth around the world The horniest Hozier song since Take Me to Church in my humble opinion. I adored it immediately. xiv. step into darkness || dubkiller Blood on your hands, maybe you're dreaming? Do you believe, nightmares you're seeing?
Tiktok? xv. got you || ga eun Will you promise you’ll rescue me Take me from eternal loneliness
This was the theme song (I think?) to a Korean drama we were obsessed with for a little bit and I don't think we ever finished? Song is interesting though and sticks with you. xvi. just a man || jorge rivera-herrans When does a ripple become a tidal wave? When does the reason become the blame? When does a man become a monster? More Epic, because I am a mythology loving twelve year old at heart. The many, MANY tiktoks to this particular song did not help.
xvii. labour || paris paloma The capillaries in my eyes are bursting If our love died, would that be the worst thing?
It's catchy. I had more typed out but tumblr fucking ate it, so fuck it.
xviii. the tornado || owl city A little rain never hurt no one, so I kept pressin' on And I tried to tell myself it's always darkest before the dawn
Another song I played very loudly while driving home.
xix. green green grass || george ezra Green, green grass, blue, blue sky You better throw a party on the day that I die
Dancy song!
xx. suzume || radwimps ル・ル・ルルルルル・ルルル・ルルルルルル ル・ル・ルルルルル・ルルル・ルルルルルル We saw this in theaters! I really loved it! xxi. can't take my eyes off you || boys town gang You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off of you The Tiktok dances got me. More serotonin when I really needed it. xxii. survive || jorge rivera-herrans Six hundred lives I'll take Six hundred lives I'll break And when I kill you, then my deed is over
More Epic! xxiii. mermaids || florence & the machine You only get one night upon the shore So dance like you've never danced before
I love Florence. That is all. xxiv. unknown / nth || hozier You know the distance never made a difference to me I swam a lake of fire, I'd have walked across the floor of any sea
Hozier was honestly the artist that kept me the most company this year if I'm not counting Spiritfarer or Hollow Knight. xxv. we didn't start the fire || fall out boy Mars rover, Avatar, self-driving electric cars SSRI's, Prince and The Queen die World trade, second plane, what else do I have to say?
I know it won't happen, but I hope every generation does a remake/remix of this song. Also, I saw Billy Joel himself in concert this year! xxvi. hold me like a grudge || fall out boy Hold me, hold me like a grudge The world is always spinning, and I can't keep up, whoa Honestly, I was a fan. xxvii. where is the justice || death note cast isn't everybody sick to death of all this stuff can't we all stand up and say enough?
This song gets stuck in my head like no one's business. xxviii. 30/90 || tick tick boom cast making choices, wicked witches poppy fields, or men behind the curtain tiger lilies, ruby slippers clock is ticking, that's for certain I still think that if Stranger Things did a musical episode Steve Harrington would have Andrew Garfield from Tick Tick Boom energy. xxix. everyday || buddy holly Every day seems a little longer Every way, love's a little stronger
Good Omens 2 dropped! I loved it! I also didn't love it! But mostly I was just happy. xxx. i'm just ken || ryan gosling I wanna know what's like to love, to be the real thing Is it a crime? Am I not hot when I'm in my feelings? And is my moment finally here, or am I dreaming?
I went to see this movie by myself because I was sick of waiting for someone to go with me and honestly had a great time. It was silly and fun and I loved the fact that so many dudes got so incredibly butt-hurt about it. xxxi. what was i made for || billie eilish 'Cause I, I I don't know how to feel But I wanna try
God, this song. It made me cry at the end of Barbie and I've been getting up in my feelings about it ever since. xxxii. speechless — naomi scott I will take these broken wings And watch me burn across the sky Apparently this is from the Aladdin live action? I haven't seen it so I can't confirm, but I DID hear this song this summer and fall in love with it. xxxiii. son of nyx || hozier *instrumental* This one might be my favorite? xxxiv. damage gets done || hozier And, darling, I haven't felt it since then I don't know how the feeling ended But I know being reckless and young Is not how the damage gets done
Another Hozier!!!!!! xxxv. paradise valley || honey and the sting Take what you want from me I bring it willingly
I may have done these next three out of order, but hey! I got married this year! As some of you may know, paradise valley has been the song that I have been obsessed with since I first heard it on Wolf 359 back in 2018/2019. I couldn't figure out a way to make it work in a traditional sense for the wedding, so I ended up using it as a private last dance. As the clock was hitting ten o'clock we had our dj gently shoo the stragglers out the door and just crooned this to each other in the dark. It was probably my favorite part of the entire night. xxxvi. stand by me || florence & the machine So darlin', darlin', stand by me Oh, stand by me
This was our first dance. As it should be. We timed our few spins around the 'darlins' and it honestly went great. 10 out of 10, would dance again. xxxvii. my prayer || the platters My prayer is to linger with you At the end of the day I did a sneaky thing. It was Nick's grandparents 65th wedding anniversary a few days before our wedding, so I quietly found out "their song" and had our DJ play it as the first official couples/slow dance of the night after wishing them a happy anniversary. They cried. I cried. The photographer cried. It was great. xxxviii. baby don't hurt me || david guetta What is love? Baby, don't hurt me
Yeah, it's just a catchy cover. xxxix. quietly yours || birdy I've always been yours Only yours This was from the Persuasion soundtrack and god, it's just so achingly haunting. xl. someone to you || banners I don't wanna die or fade away I just wanna be someone Well, doesn't everyone?
Look. I just wanna be someone. xli. one more time — blink 182 Do I have to die to hear you miss me? Do I have to die to hear you say goodbye? I don't wanna act like there's tomorrow I don't wanna wait to do this one more time One more time. I got tickets to their concert next year. We'll see if they cancel this one. xlii. adelaide || ramblewood Wish you could lay those shadows down And find your way back home
I think this is a local artist? I fell in love with the song though. xliii. i'm just your problem || lur Sorry I don't treat you like a goddess Is that what you want me to do?
Watched Fionna and Cake in like a day and a half and fell all the way back in love with Bonnie and Marceline. xliv. you're gonna be okay || ashh blackwood puff out your chest, take a deep breath you're gonna be okay
This showed up on an anxiety mix and now I literally sing it to myself if I'm having a fast day. It is VERY short, but impactful. xlv. mr lonely || angel olsen Now, I am a soldier A lonely soldier Away from home Through no wish of my own My Yuletide fic that has not yet been revealed was about [REDACTED]. I listened to this and a handful of other sad, lonely songs while writing it. xlvi. now and then || the beatles Oh, now and then I want you to be there for me This song has DEVASTATED me since it came out. I will not be the same again. xlvii. vois sur ton chemin || bennett Vois sur ton chemin Gamins oubliés, égarés
Another tiktok ear worm. I'm not much for techno, but I love this one. xlviii. history is now || natalie holt *instrumental*
Loki fucked me all the way up, guys. I know everyone is crying about it, and I'm crying too! It's beautiful and tragic and one of the most fantastic endings for a character arc that I have EVER seen out of Marvel. I HOPE they leave it alone. I hope they leave it as is so we get to keep the beautiful ending and they don't fuck it up. xlix. purpose is glorious || natalie holt *instrumental*
Again, fucked me ALL the way up. I wept. And watched it three times in a row. These two songs will be on my writing playlist for the rest of time. l. the power || borislav slavov I found you too soon Shining star of mine, hold tight Don't fight the power
I have not officially finished Baldur's Gate. However, every iteration of this song is haunting me.

We may have had to say goodbye to NCIS: Los Angeles in May 2023, with a finale that left a bit up in the air, namely what would happen on the mission to rescue Hetty. But the good news is one of the characters in that operation is now on NCIS: Hawai’i. So, might we get an update on Hetty from Sam Hanna (LL COOL J)?
“It remains to be seen, right? There’s a lot of things that are going to happen. I mean, this is the cool thing about the NCISverse,” LL COOL J tells TV Insider. “The focus is Hawai’i, but Sam does have that backstory and we’ll see if it gets addressed. People just have to tune in. But there’s some fun stuff happening, for sure.”
He has the “same answer” when it comes to hearing about the lives of the rest of the LA team, including Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Kensi (Daniela Ruah), and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen).
“We’ve got to leave you guys guessing a little bit,” adds Vanessa Lachey, whose Jane Tennant leads the Hawai’i team. “But what I will say is, and we’ve talked about this before, the NCIS franchise loves to listen to their fans. They really do take it to heart, and they want to give the fans what they want. We are a constant evolving show, and we always love surprises. So it wouldn’t surprise us if the script goes this way, and we are here for it. I mean, I just brought Sam Hanna to Hawai’i. Anything can happen.”
The Hawai’i team does know the agents from OSP (Office of Special Projects), thanks to the three-show crossover last season, so it would be quite easy to work a mention of someone—or what Sam had been up to before heading to the island—into a conversation. And they’ll likely have plenty of time to do that in the 10-episode third season as well. We don’t know how many episodes LL COOL J will be in (he’s credited as a special guest star), but as Lachey put it, “If you had Sam Hanna in Hawai’i, would you let that go? Or would you utilize the beast of Sam Hanna?”

So, recently I’ve been spending some of my freetime creating playlists for each clique at Bullworth (minus the Townies since they aren’t enrolled students during the events of the story), and figured I may as well make a post with what songs I associate with each character… Because why not!! >:) Each song association/suggestion will have a link to their respective Spotify in case you’re interested in checking them out!
Click on each title to find the entire playlist I’ve created on Spotify, or the individual song titles to listen to that specific track!
The title of this blog also leads to a larger playlist of all the songs complied into one playlist for those who want it :D

9 People You’d Like to Know More

Tumblr keeps eating every draft of this post that I write, argh!
Last Song I Listened To
When I started writing this, I was being lazy and letting the YouTube algorithm pick songs for me and I was listening to this song, Unfucktheworld by Angel Olsen. I've been exchanging song recommendations with a friend for a while now and I guess she has gotten to know me pretty well because this is way up my alley.
youtube
But then another song came on--We Ride by Brave Girls (a.k.a. BB Girls)--and that became the new last song I listened to. It's another song that a friend recommended to me. This time it was a friend I've been emailing with back and forth about East Asian pop music. He's a big fan of City Pop, a genre that came out of Japan in the 80s, and he sent me a list of some recent kpop songs that are influenced by/reminiscent of City Pop, including this one. I took to it right away, and it was a big hit with my daughter.

Currently Watching
I Told Sunset About You - I’m just one episode in to this one and I can already tell it’s going to hit me where it hurts. I took a break due to family visits and related stuff but I’m fixing to dive back in.
Moonlight Chicken - I got stalled out on this one just as it was getting good, thanks to some life stuff. I need to pick it back up!
Star Trek: Discovery - I’m a big Star Trek fan and recently rewatched everything from TNG through Voyager, but I hadn’t kept up with any of the newest series in years. I’m so glad I decided to start Discovery because it is shaping up to be one of my favorite Star Trek series. There are a lot of reasons for this. Really great LGBT+ representation is a factor. This is also is the first Star Trek series that has inspired more actor crushes in me than DS9. Michelle Yeoh in a corset! Tig Notaro as a cranky engineer! I’m dying over here.
Tumblr media
Minato's Laundromat season 2 - I was looking forward to this as soon as it was announced, but with the usual anxiety that comes with a second season of a BL. I wasn’t 100% sure about the direction of the season at first, but now it’s settling in with some really interesting themes.
Reservation Dogs - I wasn’t entirely sure about this show when I first started watching during the first season. But not only did it grow on me, it has also been getting better and better. The latest episode, which focused in part on an abusive government-sponsored boarding school (of the sort designed to rob Indigenous kids of their culture), was one of the best of the series so far.
Edited to add: I forgot about Kamen Rider Geats! My family has been catching up on it and we're almost caught up just in time for the finale. I'm liking it a lot more than I thought I would when I watched the first few episodes, but not as much as my partner (who said he thinks it's one of his favorite Kamen Rider series he's seen). I'm really impressed with the cast, though. I'd especially like to see the actors who play Keiwa and Buffa in more things in the future.
Currently Reading
I’ve been listening to the audiobook version of The Method: How the Twentieth Century Learned to Act by Isaac Butler for a while now, but I’m having an annoying situation where it keeps getting returned to the library even though I’ve renewed it. I could just start another book, but I don’t want to! This one is really interesting.
The vast majority of people spend a significant amount of their time watching (non-documentary) movies and TV series, which involves watching actors engage in this specific art form. And we have opinions about what constitutes good or bad acting. Yet most of us know so little about how acting is done, what kinds of theories underpin acting practice, how actors prepare for roles and scenes. I wanted to not only find out more about that, but also dig a little deeper into the differences between approaches and how they’ve branched off and clashed and so forth.
So far I’ve gotten a lot of good background and plenty to think about, even though I’m just getting to the point where the Method/System/whateveryoucallit is starting to take on in the US. I’m guessing it’s going to get even more relevant from there.
Current Obsession
I’m always obsessing about lots of things so I’m probably never going to be able to identify just one. Some currents ones are:
waiting for Utsukushii Kare: Eternal to be available with English subtitles somewhere, somehow
foraging blackberries, making jelly out of them, and baking biscuits to go with the jelly
waiting for it to be fall already because I hate sweating and I love wearing layers
finding my Animal Crossing character some decent glasses
thinking about possible BL/Jane Austen parallels for tumblr posts
finishing a post about psychological aspects of Utsukushii Kare that I’ve been writing off and on for months and that has gotten so long it will probably have to be split up into 3-4 posts
Serge Lutens Jeux de Peau perfume (my beloved)
I didn't tag anyone. It makes me anxious and I think pretty much everyone I know on here has been tagged! Except @porridgefeast, who's welcome to do it if she feels like it but (of course) no pressure.

Dust Volume 9, Number 4
Tumblr media
Photo of Angel Olsen by Luke Rogers
Dust is everywhere these days, but that’s a good thing.  April may be the cruelest month, but it’s also when the release calendar swings into full gear and local concert announcements proliferate.  We’ve made it through the long dark void.  It’s time for beers outside and portable speakers.  What are we blasting?  Oh, lots of things.  Australian punks and Michigan rappers, German death metalists and French composers, piano deconstructers and freaking Arto Lindsay.  This month’s contributors include Jennifer Kelly, Ray Garraty, Jonathan Shaw, Bill Meyer, Tim Clarke, Ian Mathers, Patrick Masterson and Jim Marks.
Blowers — Blown Again (Chaputa!/Spooky)
Blown Again LP by BLOWERS
“Wipe My Ass” materialized in my inbox on a slow day. It came all the way from Australia with blunt force scatological humor, and yeah, I clicked on the link. Why not? It’s dead brute simple, this song, starting with a girl (also the drummer) yelling out the title phrase, and picking up first a buzzsaw guitar lick and later, the somewhat wistful, surprisingly hooky chorus of “I just want somebody…to wipe my ass.”  These songs are all raging ID and very little super-ego. “Shut the Fuck Up” is catchy as hell, in the vein of Jay Reatard’s late-career, alternative-universe hits, and “Let’s Age Disgracefully” aims a firehose of guitar nose straight at the speakers, so that you have to step back a little bit. Leonard Cohen, it’s not, but if you like giddy, joke-y, irrepressible garage punk from people who can barely play their instruments, well, prepare to get blown.

Cellow — Ghetto Takeover (Jugg$treet)
youtube
There is literally no information on who this guy Cellow is, and this EP won’t change the situation. In a dozen of years we will be just saying “Oh, remember that dude that did a little tape with Rio Da Yung Og?” It looks like Cellow took a deal Rio was offering before he got locked up — to record an EP with an artist for $50k — but Ghetto Takeover didn’t surface until now. After 20 listens, hardly a line written by Cellow stays in your memory, possibly due to his total lack of charisma. Rio Da Yung Og completely steals the show here, on all the tracks he’s featured, and he’s in a full ignorance mode: “Fuck Obama and I ain't vote for Trump neither \ Stupid-ass white boys, Butthead and Beavis.” It’s the Flint MC who’s taking over Ghetto Takeover, not Cellow.
Ray Garraty
Ch’Ahom — Camazotz Cult (Sentient Ruin Laboratories)
Camazotz Cult by CH'AHOM
Ahead of a new LP from German black/death band Ch’Ahom, the sharp-eared freaks at Sentient Ruin Laboratories are releasing this compilation LP, and they’ve done us a solid. Camazotz Cult is as confounding and queasy as it is unpleasantly intense, precisely the sort of thing some of us look for in underground metal. What might possess a bunch of young German dudes to disappear into the mythos of a Pre-Columbian bat god, to the extent that they are compelled to form a band to write and record songs about it? This reviewer can’t shed any light on that—and likely the reasons should remain shrouded in dank, noisome darkness. If the denizens of TikTok and Telegram are alerted to the existence of the band, the ethno-purity police will show up to lodge their complaints: some will wring hands over cultural appropriation, others in black metal circles will bum out over the idea of Northern European kids digging on gods from the Global South. So goes our contemporary conjuncture. Meanwhile, songs like “Raid of the Tzitzimime” and “Noh Ek” churn and burn. To add to the cultural confusion, Ch’Ahom have covered a few tunes by Danish wackos Sadogoat, who went on to release more music under the even more inspired name Sadomator; Ch’Ahom’s rendition of “Female Goat Perversion” is as awful as you might expect, and it’s also pretty great. For sure, it’s the right soundtrack for 2023’s latest iteration of our global shitshow. Release the bat god, please.

Dippers — Looking for a Sphere (Goner/Tenth Court)
Looking for a Sphere by Dippers
The Melbourne garage punk rippers known as Thigh Master made two taut and scrappy full-lengths before ending their run. Now, a couple of years later, the two principals Matthew Ford and Innez Tulloch are back under a new name, Dippers, and a greatly altered sound. Looking for a Sphere, along with the single “Tightening the Tangles” make a case for fractious jangle but also psychedelic dreaming. Dippers do both. The single, out about a month ago, hews closer to the Thigh Master template with scratchy tunefulness, jabbing guitars and a noodle-y meander of keyboards. On the Sphere EP, however, even the relative bangers are slower, sweeter and edging into a gritty variety of twee. “Mazing,” the lead-off cut, is arch and witty like the Monochrome Set, jaggedly surreal like certain Pollard songs. It cuts and slashes and tootles in a sleepy-eyed way, in line with what Terry has been up to over the last several albums. “Drift Space” is even more stretched and blissed out, with its widely space guitar chords, its long shudders of tambourine and its languid psychedelic choruses (“Inwardly imploding, the pressure inside will not worry me, turned off the air, I floated out there, then turned off the screen.”) The two instrumental tracks are the surprise however, built of long expanding synthesizer tones and harpsichord like natterings; they extend in every limpid direction from a still center. But if Mikey Young can dabble in ambient electronics—and he can—then why not Dippers? Garage punk is so much more interesting when it brings in ideas from outside.

Bruno Duplant — Insondables Humeurs (Granny)
Insondables Humeurs by Bruno Duplant
Bruno Duplant made nine albums in 2022, so pardon me for not getting around to writing about this one until now. Mind you, my tardiness does not mean that you should not listen. This album is part of a recent series of longform pieces on which the French composer and occasional instrumentalist has taken on the full-time task of performance. Insondables Humeurs earns its title, which translates as Unfathomable Moods. Its two tracks loom and stretch, with long harmonium drones taking plenty of time to lure the listener into a state that feels at once enveloping and uneasy. Electronic treatments, piano notes, and arhythmic percussion intrude periodically, amping up the apprehension. This is the final installment of a trilogy of sonically disparate but similarly disposed efforts; one gets the feeling that Duplant is deeply concerned about the ongoing state of things. The resulting sounds cannot be denied.

Exploding Corpse Action — Interdimensional Annihilation: Complete Transmissions 1995-1997 (Armageddon)
Inter-Dimensional Annihilation: Complete Transmissions 1995-1997 by Exploding Corpse Action
The redistribution of heavy music’s extensive back-catalog of hyper-obscure, underground releases continues apace, and sometimes one wonders about the intent. Filling in untold histories, or filling hipster collectors’ record bins? Creating archival records, or “deluxe edition” records as pricey commodities? Interdimensional Annihilation: Complete Transmissions 1995-1997 is a newly marketed collection of the relatively slim output of Albany-based death metal band Exploding Corpse Action, and the record provides a good occasion for thinking on those questions. We’ll stipulate to the excellence of the band’s name, and there’s some fun to be had; tunes like “Light Speed Impact Crater” and “Robotic Surgery Malfunction” are endearingly demented. But do we really need two marginally different takes of “Decompression: Anal Prolapse” in the interest of a “complete” set of recordings? Do we really need this record in the first place, when a quick inspection of the latest sounds on Bandcamp yields any number of death-metal-related experiences imbued with the same sort of goofball depravity? History seems to have been indifferent to the band’s existence, and none of the participants in Exploding Corpse Action went on to make more subculturally significant music. Maybe if you live in Albany, you feel differently about the band’s relative importance, and in that case, I’m sorry — not about the band, but about Albany.

Grandbrothers — Late Reflections (City Slang)
Late Reflections by Grandbrothers
The concept behind the fourth album by Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel — the follow-up to 2021’s All the Unknown — is an interesting one: these ten pieces all feature grand piano as their sole sound source, recorded at night in Cologne Cathedral when the building was closed to the public. As expected, there are plenty of moments of quiet, gently reverberating reflection, building into exultant crescendos. However, what’s most surprising — and perhaps most disappointing — is that the piano is often so heavily processed as to render it indistinguishable. When crunchy beats kick in on a track like “Infinite,” one can’t help but wonder why a live kit couldn’t have been substituted instead; it certainly would have sounded more natural and more in-keeping with the album’s sound palette. Nevertheless, it’s often engrossing to follow how the duo’s multi-part compositions unfold.

Arto Lindsay — Charivari (Corbett Vs. Dempsey)
Charivari (Black Cross Solo Sessions 7) by Arto Lindsay
Three years is not so long ago. That’s how long ago that locked-down improv fans discovered, during the first Quarantine Concerts on-line festival, that Arto Lindsay had a few things to learn about adjusting the rotation of his cell phone’s video camera. The experience of watching him with a 90 degrees tilt may have obscured what a swell thing he had going, but this album will set you straight. If, like this writer, you have sometimes felt that larger settings dilute Lindsay’s singular integration of guitar noise, samba sway, and social anxiety-stirring provocation, this unaccompanied setting is the neat shot you’ve been waiting for. While occasional loops trick you into thinking that the earth’s rhythms can be trusted, marvelously jagged chunks of guitar noise topple while Lindsay croons and gasps fragments that let you know that you just don’t know. The numerologically inclined should be aware that this album is volume seven of Corbett Vs. Dempsey’s Black Cross Solo Sessions, a series of solo statements that the label commissioned from locked down artists. There are eight in all, each encased in a glossy reproduction of Christopher Wool’s titular cross. Collect ‘em, trade ‘em, but keep your bubble gum sticks away from ‘em. Inspirational lyric: “Resistance yoga.”

Mute Duo — Migrant Flocks (American Dreams)
Migrant Flocks by Mute Duo
Chicago’s Mute Duo refer to their setup (Sam Wagster on pedal steel, Skyler Rowe on drums) as a “sandbox” and their play on Migrant Flocks bears that out. Whether on the flute-assisted (courtesy of Emma Hospelhorn), expansive centerpiece “The Ocean Door,” the harder-charging “Trust Lanes” and “Landmusik” (the latter featuring Doug McCombs and Andrew Scott Young), or the more ethereal ranges of “Moon in the Flood” and the closing “Bisrāma,” the duo refuses to be pigeonholed into what you might guess a pedal-steel-and-drums record might sound like. Some of this is technique (Wagster plays more conventionally guitar-like registers at times, Rowe mostly sticks with brushes), but it’s more the varied emotional and sonic palette they wield so astutely. At times the sound touches on anyone from later-period Earth to “Mogwai Fear Satan” to the Dirty Three, but always with a quality that marks Mute Duo as their own thing, and worth watching.

Paal Nilssen-Love Circus — Pairs of Three (PNL)
Pairs of Three by Paal Nilssen-Love Circus
The Norwegian drummer and bandleader Paal Nilssen-Love has lived a pretty international life. That has influenced his choice of associates — he’s played with musicians from the USA, Japan, Ethiopia, Brazil and all around Europe — and the distances he has traveled in order to play with them. This all changed when COVID came around, and he found himself confined within his home country’s borders, but improvisation is just another way of saying you’re good at solving problems. The members of Nilsen-Love’s Circus, who convened to record this album in the summer of 2021, all live in Scandinavia, but between them they can dial up any corner of the world in a second. The music changes by the second, jumping from accordion-led chanson to agit-prop punk to timbral improv, while singer Juliana Venter similarly leaps from tongue to tongue, with digressions into back of the throat, hackle-raising extended techniques. This music is a world unto itself, full of possibility.

Nondi_ — Flood City Trax (Planet Mu)
Flood City Trax by Nondi_
Best I can find, Tatiana Triplin has been releasing music since 2014, but Flood City Trax is her first away from the netlabel she runs, HRR, as well as her first for Planet Mu (not a bad place to greet a broader audience). The years of juke, footwork and techno intake make themselves felt across this album, which trips all over itself rhythms-wise but, more than anything to me, recalls the dreamily rough, lower-fidelity beats of Actress. Triplin says this album is inspired by the moods of her hometown of Johnstown, Penn., a place (in)famous for its flooding, and suggesting the music doesn’t carry with it some of that water weight, conscious or otherwise, would be misleading. More tangible than vaporwave but less fully submerged than Drexciya, Nondi_’s most prominent, cohesive album statement is also one of the year’s most excitingly pleasant surprises in the realm of electronic music.

Angel Olsen — Forever Means EP (Jagjaguwar)
Forever Means by Angel Olsen
For all of the ambition and willingness to push further stylistically that Angel Olsen has exhibited in the last half a decade, it’s clear she’s never lost sight of her greatest strengths: deftly sensitive songwriting and that otherworldly voice. Dipping her toes into the swollen decadence of All Mirrors or the ‘80s synthpop cosplay of Aisles remain diversions from her more traveled roads beaten with a guitar and a mic that can handle her pipes. The Olsen I fell in love with was Burn Your Fire for No Witness, and she seems to have come back around on that more restrained swagger lately with the All Mirrors reworkings Whole New Mess, last year’s excellent, settling Big Time and, now, leftovers from those sessions in the form of Forever Means. The sax and organ solos that run out of gas on “Nothing’s Free” and the afterthought of a trumpet on “Time Bandits” feel like failed flourishes, so you can see why she dropped them, but the title track is as good as she gets and none of these four tracks is obviously lacking for quality. No matter how much change she goes through — and heaven knows she’s had plenty of that recently — her gifts shine brightest when there’s less to hide them behind. The center continues to hold.

ShaunMusiq, Ftears & Xduppy — “Bhebha (Feat. Myztro, Mellow & Sleazy, QuayR Musiq & Matuteboy)” (Kgaday)
youtube
The reigning sound of South Africa has been amapiano for several years now, and understandably so: Its relaxed rhythmic pace, airy melodies and “the pianos” from which the genre derives its name allow for plenty of creative space. One name taking recent advantage of the style is ShaunMusiq, who’s had a small but solid stream of singles since 2021’s SkrrThang II and here heads up a crew remixing a song that’s been blowing out cheap car subs and irritating parents around Pretoria since 2005. It won’t surprise you to learn this blew up via TikTok and that’s probably the impetus for this official video, which belatedly arrives a month out from the single’s release, but what might surprise you is how heavy that bass rolls as the three protagonists pass sleepy bars off to one another in the Bantu Tsonga language. Heavier still is just how committed this video is: From the dancers to the decked out Toyota Hiace, nothing’s left on the table. Get in, loser: We’re going to whatever party puts this on loudest.

Silver Moth — Black Bay (Bella Union)
Black Bay by Silver Moth
The band Silver Moth is a pandemic-era coming together of Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai) and his wife, singer-songwriter Elisabeth Elektra; singer-songwriter Evi Vine, plus her guitarist Steven Hill and multi-instrumentalist Ben Roberts; Abrasive Trees guitarist Andrew Rochford; and Ash Babb, drummer in Burning House and Academy of the Sun. The seven musicians convened at Black Bay studio on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland for a short stint of writing and recording, and these six songs are the result. Given it was all pulled together in the studio, the coherence is impressive, especially on opener “Henry,” which sounds like Mogwai fronted by Beth Gibbons, and “Mother Tongue,” which has the airy, exploratory feel of Meg Baird. The second half of the record is dominated by the 15-minute “Hello Doom” (a very Mogwai song title), which sounds exactly as you might imagine, searing fuzz guitar and all. Though occasionally lacking in its own distinct personality, there’s definitely sufficient chemistry on Black Bay for further Silver Moth music if the band has the time and inclination.

Skooly — “08 Wayne” (The Real U)
youtube
Lil Wayne recently passed through Chicago on tour, and reports from the evening have it that he was rapping songs here he hadn’t touched in years (if ever). For hip-hop fans who’ve struggled with the genre’s post-Drake decentralization, it was a nice reminder of simpler times when it was easy to tell who was on top — and who knows, maybe Weezy’s “I’m Me” tour was the impetus for Kazarion Fowler’s latest single, too. The former Rich Kidz member would’ve turned 14 in 2008, so while more wizened heads might have it that Wayne’s peak was a year or two earlier, Skooly’s of the age to speak with authority that in high school hallways, there was no doubting Wayne’s imperial phase was in full effect by the year in question. Skooly doesn’t look to ape that level of language-busting dexterity, instead opting for a confident sing-song lilt with an irresistible chorus that wraps on “Cold propane / This shit is dope cocaine / I feel like ‘08 Wayne” while Buddah Bless tinkles his way across the ivories and adds just a touch of funked up synthesizer for color. In every respect, this is one to feel good about.

Sounding Society — Homecoming Medley or Society Into Sound (Gotta Let It Out)
HOMECOMING MEDLEY or SOCIETY INTO SOUND by SOUNDING SOCIETY
Man, will somebody please burp the matrix? There’s a glitch in the circuits. How else might one explain this anomaly? The cover, which is proudly proclaimed to be AI-generated, looks like the glossy cover of a 1980s-vintage sci-fi paperback. And the sounds? At first, the music sounds like a gear-inclusive (i.e., digital and analog) retro take on New Age-tinged keyboard soundtrackery. But as the music progresses, some non-ironic improvisational chops steer the music on a less predictable, if still essentially groovy, course. Several explorational interludes and one video game parlor breakdown later, you’re left wondering just what went down. Explanation — drummer-bandleader Tomo Jacobson spends much of his time in more straight-faced, jazz-oriented settings. It would seem that you can take the jazz man out of the club, but you can’t take the creative restlessness out of his heart.

Erik Sowa — Cedar Lake Recordings Vol. 1 (Sliptoh)
Cedar Lake Recordings Vol .1 by Erik Sowa
Chicagoans will recognize Eric Sowa as a drummer who pops up in both roots and improv contexts, to make these recordings, he headed to an off-the-grid location in northern Minnesota. No electricity? No problem, he just humped a car battery to power the recording gear, along with his drums, stringed instruments and bellows-driven organ. All that trouble would be for naught if it didn’t help capture the vibe, but Sowa has gotten it right. One supposes that it took considerable concentration to self-record a virtual ensemble that feels so naturally loose. Each tune represents a modest amount of rustic headspace, and then makes way for the next.

Dick Stusso — S.P. (Hardly Art)
S.P. by Dick Stusso
Dick Stusso distorts 1970s guitar rock through a prism, twisting blues-rock riffs into haunted litanies. His big hollowed out baritone floats elegantly through post-Waits-ian junk shop arrangements, posing, preening, italicizing every line. You can hear faint sirens through the piano bar chords of “Self Reflection (Deep).” The title screams sarcasm, but Stusso plays it relatively straight. It’s a AOR ballad turning slightly green at the edges, blown out with ghostly “woo-woo” counterparts and ending with a curdled R&B solo vocal that sounds like Merry Clayton but broken and harsh. I should mention that that’s Grace Cooper of the Sandwitches, one of the reigning queens of West Coast lofi and a long-time collaborator with Stusso. His father, the jazz saxophonist Marc Russo (Stusso’s real name is Nic Russo), makes an appearance in “Garbagedump #1,” a sloppy-drunk cakewalk treading unsteadily on second-hand-shop boogie. These 18 songs are brief but vividly imagined, throwing up film noir sound-stage vistas that are convincing unless you look at them from the side.
Jennifer Kelly
Harry Taussig — 80 (Tompkins Square)
80 by Harry Taussig
Harry Taussig is Takoma school royalty. His first recordings appeared on John Fahey’s celebrated Takoma Park record label, and his most recent have been for Tompkins Square, beginning with tracks on the seminal Imaginational Anthem series. His small catalog includes three releases over the past 10 years, the name of this one commemorating his 80th birthday. The compositions, played unaccompanied and without overdubbing on six- and 12-string acoustic guitar and five-string banjo, tend to bear titles suggestive of classical music (which Taussig cites as a primary influence in the liner notes), such as “Etude for in G Major #7.” Most have an improvisational feel, though comparison of alternate takes indicates that they are constructed with care. All three instruments sound open-tuned, as the five-string banjo usually is and as is common in the Takoma school style. Taussig has never been flashy, and his deliberate and at times hesitant approach has helped him to age somewhat more gracefully as a player than Fahey did. There is a craggy beauty to 80 well represented by the brooding photograph on the cover. Here’s hoping an 85 and a 90 will be forthcoming.
Jim Marks
Unlearn and MP Shaw—Secret Listener (Farallon)
Secret Listener by Unlearn & MP Shaw
Bright rounded bloops of synthetic sound bob in gentle syncopation, in the uncanny valley’s muted version of funk. Two Seattle-born, SF-based electronic artists—Matthew Shaw and James Key—made this disc during the lockdown casting dystopic dread into billow-y, unearthly shadows on the wall. Thus, their “Dusting the Astral Plane” grooves in a well-cushioned, unconfrontational way; picture an actual robot doing the robot, but slowly and bathed in magic hour twilight. Two “TLR” cuts serve as whooshing, enveloping meditation breaks, the soft clarity of keyboards surging then subsuming into ambient hiss. “Article One” lists woozily on blotty smudges of synth sound, the sharp click of rhythm clattering through. All of these cuts drift and loom, the dance beats wrapped in gauzy, indeterminant tone-washes. It’s more of a pencil drumming, space-staring, transcendental vibe than anything hedonistic or physical, but very nice all the same.
Jennifer Kelly
Youniss — White Space (Viernulvier)
youtube
So what exactly distinguishes a very short album from an EP? Formal considerations like number of tracks don’t really work, and ultimately it’s just going to come down to the feel of the thing. In White Space’s case, the second album from Antwerp-based Youniss holds together strongly enough as a significant statement that neither the 20-minute runtime nor the almost beat tape-esque patchwork of these ten tracks are drawbacks. Whether going full aggro (particularly on the redlined, snapped-off “Arms Bent Back”), more atmospheric on the instrumentals “Negative Space” and “Walad,” or fully embracing a melancholy of dislocation on “SO SLOW” and “Sinking,” White Space packs a lot of sonic texture and grappling with serious issues (race, perspective, artistry, context) in a brief space. All that and it’ll consistently get your head nodding? That’s an album.

May! Officially springtime, I wanted my May playlist to key off of 'Les Fleurs' by Minnie Riperton, a song my bff shared in our family discord and has haunted me since (positive).
This playlist put itself together pretty quickly, and basically was in its final form by mid-month. And, since part of the whole point of me even starting doing monthly playlists was because I am prone listening to the same playlists over and over (and over), I had no problem spending two weeks of workdays listening to the same series of songs. It's comforting! My comfort playlist is six songs long and I used to play it on a loop through most of a workday at a Bad Place I Worked. Three hours of syrupy spring joy every day was a delight.
The vibe for May was, if I may quote what I sent my bestie in describing it: "Flowers and joy sweetness and fierceness is the vibes, Middle finger in a lace glove." I mean, I think I achieved that, anyway.
Several covers on this one, like the Cowboy Junkies covering Vic Chesnutt 'Flirted With You All My Life,' which is a hard one to cover for a lot of reasons but this is (to me) a successful attempt. The 'Goodbye Horses' cover by Dead On A Sunday is also a new favourite, it doesn't really change much about it, but it's just a good damn song. The Cardigans singing 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' hit me so unexpectedly, I was delighted.
Related media to some of the songs:
I enjoy the music video for Indigo De Souza's 'You Can Be Mean'.
An Dro's arrangement of the Hieronymus Bosch butt music is probably my favourite version, and I'm grateful to this Tumblr post for introducing this artist to me.
There are two songs from Schmigadoon! season two in here, if you can find a way to watch it (Apple TV+) and are a musicals fan you're in for a treat. It's a damn tragedy how they've got so few clips for this show and were consistently late in sharing what little they had or in making songs available quickly on Spotify. It's a musical show! You're a giant network! Anyway, enjoy this Chicago-inspired piece that is not on this playlist but is a delight nonetheless.
Anyway here's a link to May's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below the cut.

Part 35 of On The Inside With Elizabeth Olsen
Word Count: ~4K
GrOrange??
masterlist
Y/N POV
"I swear you don't even like candy."
"That's not true!"
"Well, I've never seen you eat it!"
"You've seen me eat ice cream."
"First off Pumpkin Ice Cream and Liz-"
"Well, as my girlfriend, I know you've seen the pic of-"
"Besides the Blue Airhead for that one movie."
As I walk up and down the aisles of the local H-E-B, I hear a huff through my AirPods. "Ugh- well... That's because I like having perfect teeth." I hum. "That's true. Your pearly white smile is one of the most stunning things on this planet." I hear a small laugh on the other side of the phone. "But that doesn't mean you can't live every once in a while, Liz. Cavities come all! Plus, I know you celebrities have freaky dentists who fix everything in one week!" I pick up an enormous mixed bag of chocolates and begin inspecting it.
"That is not true! My body and teeth are like this because I take care of them- don't you dare roll your eyes at me!"
I drop the bag of goodies into my cart and quickly scan the area around me. Not a Liz in sight. "How did you know I was doing that??" I ask, a little scared. Not gonna lie.
I hear Liz laugh again. "Every time you go to roll your eyes, you always take a quick breath in. I heard it through the phone." My mouth opens slightly in thought. "And now your mouth is open. Ooh, and let me guess?! You have your tongue being squeezed between your teeth!"
"Stop doing that!!" I notice I shout a little too loud as a woman books it out of the same aisle as me. "You're a freak," I whisper into the phone call. "Takes one to know one. Why are we whispering?"
"Because I looked like a freak."
"Oh well, that's nothing new." A loud laugh echoes through my AirPods. As good as a burn that was, I can never ever pout or faux being mad when that angelic laugh worms its way into my ears. "I'm sorry, Y/N."
"Yeah, yeah."
I pick up another mixed bag of candies. Sour this time. "Warheads, yay or nay?" "I wouldn't know." I huff. "Okay." I put the Warheads down and pick up a small bag. "Sour straws?" "Are they good?" "You're really not being a big help right now. Because, of course, they're good!"
"Then sure. Get what you want. This was your idea."
I place the bag of sour straws into the cart. "That sounds like you don't like it." My smile falters a bit.
"I like it, but babe, we're only renting this place for a short period of time while I film."
"Right..." I say, weaving my cart around people in the middle of the aisle. "That's why I want to do something for the time we're here—I mean, Liz, Halloween's literally in two days. Let's give those kids one more extra house to hit up for some candy! It'll be fun!" I stop the cart in the frozen section. "I'm looking at some very unhealthy frozen burritos right now, by the way."
"Please don't get those." She begs. "And you're right. Let's be welcoming and make the most of the time in this house."
I close the freezer door with the box of burritos in hand. "Thank you!" I pause. "Is there a reason you were hesitant? I mean, I know you were weeks ago when I suggested it. But you seemed fine about it. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pressure you or anything."
I feel a sense of pride wash over the conversation as I ask these questions. Liz and I have talked about being open and honest time and time again, and here we are doing it. I'm proud of us.
Therapy helps but not as much as when Liz tells me why she was upset three Fridays ago when the waitress we had for lunch touched my arm one too many times. Or how I was honest the previous month and told her that I kept my TikTok but deleted Twitter and privated Instagram. Not because of her but because listening to strangers opinions wasn't doing me any good.
"Oh, honey. No. No, you didn't! I think..." I hear Liz sigh. "I think my mind jumped to tricking myself into thinking we were moving too fast, but that's literally the definition of us plus..." She stops again, worrying me a bit more as I hit the checkout lane. Hmm, busy tonight. "The other day, I got hit with a feeling. It was like dejavú, but it wasn't?? I don't know. But I was reminded of living with Robbie, and I think without realizing it, I was letting it eat at me and affect my mood. So I'm sorry for that..."
"That's okay. You don't have to apologize, Liz." I reply. "How are you doing now? Do you still have the feeling or-"
"No. I don't." She clears her throat. "Because when I critically thought about it for more than two seconds with a clear head. You're not him and will never be. And I love that. Making the most of this time together. Testing out the waters of living together and being with you. That is what I want."
"I can feel my cheeks getting warm now because of you, Miss Elizabeth Chase." Liz laughs into the phone as I scan the wall of temptation they put at checkout. "God, you're such a dork. But you're my dork. I love that about you."
"Is that the only thing?" I grab two bags of Corn Nuts, Twix, Sour Patch Kids, and only Blue Airheads adding them to the cart of healthy food and junk food.
Lizzie's side vs. my side.
I literally never had salmon before she made it for me, so I'm learning.
"You just want to hear me praise you."
"You're right. I didn't get enough last night!" I wiggle my eyebrows to me and only me.
"Oh my god! You totally do have a praise kink!" Liz yells into my ears, forcing me to get startled and blush all at once. I turn around to make sure no one can hear me or saw me jump. Luckily everyone is in their own world. Well, except for the cashier, who is staring at me.
Why is she waving me forward?
Oh, wait...
I'm next in line.
"No, I don't! Also checking out now. I'll call you in the car. Love you!"
"Checking who out?? Oh wait- No- We're not done with this conversation."
"Yes, we are, and maybe I do!"
"Love you too! Y/N-"
I quickly end the call and take out an AirPod to try and appear as less rude as I could be to the friendly cashier. "Hi. Sorry." I offer a kind smile as I finish putting the groceries onto the conveyor belt. "It's alright." She sends back a smile and begins beeping my food. Giving my mind and hands some extra seconds of free time, I turn around to glance at the (mostly) bullshit media magazines.
How Long Is ScarJo Going To Hide Post-Baby Birth? - US Weekly

I trail my eyes across other media-targeted magazines before returning to the stupid Gossip Daily one. Not because I care but because a picture of my girlfriend is on the cover in the bottom left-hand corner.
She looks beautiful and is smiling, a smile that makes her glow. But this is from a movie premiere, not for a magazine shoot. I begin to flip through before stopping and scoffing in disgust at how my friends like Aubrey and Scarlett and how my Liz are treated. I turn back to the card machine and cashier.
"Not a fan?" I look up from searching for my card to the cashier whose name tag reads Georgia. "What?" I ask, unclear of what she's talking about. "The magazine?" She points to the one I held. I shake my head. "Not really." Georgia makes an agreeable hum before giving me the total. Sometimes I forget how expensive everything is on this side of the country. The beeping of the machine happens as I pull out my card. "Have a good one." She hands me my receipt. "And enjoy those gross burritos!" I laugh. "I plan on it!" She laughs back before I turn away to walk out of the store and into the warm dusk of the parking lot.
As the cart rattles along the asphalt, I'm pulled from my phone when I hear a group of teenage girls laughing.
Why is that sound so scary? I think this to myself every time I'm out somewhere and hear a group laugh. I'm older than them. My life is good, so why am I scared??
I take a quick look as they walk by. One of the girls must've smelt my fear because, within a second, she is up and looking my way. I send a shy smile that gets returned before her eyes widen as I pass by.
I know what she saw.
Elizabeth Olsens girlfriend. Her assistant. Her new musically inclined partner.
As I put a little skip in my step, I heard a hushed but loud "omg, that was her?!" "who??" Followed by a mishmash of my name and being referred to as something related to "Lizzie Olsen."
"Hey!"
Why did I park so far?
"Excuse me!"
I sigh and slow my steps.
Now before we continue.
Have I been recognized for me being me? Yes. Clips and audio from the show held a couple of months back did wonders for my "imagine" (ew) and new Spotify, even after the rumored falling out between Rob- Mr. Arnett, and myself. Most of the time, if I am ever seen, it's mainly by fans of Liz. Who I love and have been so very sweet to me. However, sometimes I want to buy junk food and not be known. But to be with Lizzie, I'd take a million pictures and answer any Scarlet Witch-related questions they have.
"Yes?" I turn back to the group of three. All of their faces light up as they see that, yes, their friend was right. "You're Y/N Y/L/N, right?"
"I am," I answer with a smile. "Oh, my God! I love your music!" What? "I'm sorry?" I say, unsure of if I heard her correctly. "I love your music!" She says as the main one pulls TikTok up on her phone and shows me... well me.
She clicks on a duet I made of a clip from the live show. In the video, I explain how much I love the song that was written between him and I, so much so that I covered it for myself.
That Funny Feeling - Y/N aka @yeahitsY/NY/L/N (That Funny Feeling by Phoebe Bridgers)
"I love your version so much more!" The main one of the three closes out her phone and says to me. I smile and thank her. "Sorry, what's your guys' names?" I look over the three. "I'm Kat!" The one with the phone waves. Her friend in the blue jacket speaks, "I'm Willow." I nod my head before looking to the last girl, who's wearing a set of burgundy overalls. "Hi. I'm Holly." I smile at each one before I greet them with my own name.
"So, what are you doing here?" Willow outright asks, earning a slap on the arm from Kat, who immediately apologizes for her friend's behavior. I can't help but let a small smile form on my face. "I'm sure you already know." I bite my tongue and raise my eyebrows, questioning them. Kat's face lights up again to my answer. "Wait! Are you saying I'm literally in the same state as Elizabeth Olsen!!" She grips onto her friends arms. I'm sure to stop herself from jumping up and down.
This time Holly apologizes for her friends actions.
"Oh, my God. Wait stop. You two are so cute together!" Kat starts speaking again. I blush at that comment. "I can't believe we ran into you!" "Yeah, at H-E-B of all places." Willow snarks while looking at my cart.
Oh no. Please don't say anything about the burritos.
"Can we get a picture?" I move my gaze from the burritos to Kat and think. Ummmm. "Sure." I nod my head and move the shopping cart to my side. I let each one grab their own phone out as I position myself behind them. "We'll do one group pic on someone's phone, and then we each get a selfie," Kat speaks to the other two, who agree that Holly takes the group photo.
"Oh, this looks so good!"
I take a glance at each of their phones, and I have to agree the photo does look really good. Especially against the orange sky. "Can we tag you?" Willow asks without lifting her head up from her phone. "Sure, why not." My Instagram is private, but I can still see other people's stuff.
"Y/N?" I turn my head to Holly, who has her phone away. "Yeah?" "When are you releasing new music?" I tilt my head slightly and think. Over the last three months, I've been trying to write as much as possible. Mainly while Liz is on set, but I haven't been delighted with anything I've written. It's primarily a lot of angry songs that don't go anywhere.
I think that's why Liz made the executive decision of making me her assistant. To help me get away from the stress I was putting on myself.
But that's not to say it's all lost. I think new music will come.
Eventually.
"You know... I'm not sure." Holly hums, and it looks like she's about to say something else before Willow cuts her off. "So what are you doing now? If not music?"
"Uhh.. Liz's assistant, I guess.." I just about mumble out that I'm saying it out loud.
"What's your favorite color?" "What?" I ask, taken back because I certainly wasn't expecting that. "I want to add a heart to the caption, but I want it to be your favorite color." She sweetly and excitedly tells me. "Ohh umm.. GrOrange." I reply, earning confused looks before I realize my mix-up. "Sorry." I close my eyes, embarrassed. "Orange used to be my favorite color. But now it's Green." I open my eyes to the girls nodding along. "How come?"
Because of her.
"Things change," I reply with a shy tiny smile,
The three girls nod and shrug being, contempt. "Anyways..." I say, putting my hand on the shopping cart once again. "I should get going." I send an apologetic, kind smile to the three who graciously let me go with a few thanks and goodbyes. Oh, and one "please tell Lizzie about us."
Liz POV
I put down my book and pull out my phone. I'm just about to hover over Y/N's contact name for what must be the fourth time in the last five minutes when I hear the front door unlock.
"Babe?" I call out just in case it's not her and I'm about to be murderer.
"Hi." My non-murdering girlfriend replies.
I get up from the soft caramel-colored couch and make my way to her voice. Only stopping when I see her kicking off her shoes in the foyer carrying all the groceries bags. "You know.." I start. "You could've come in and asked for help, so you don't have to do it all at once." I only earn a shake of the head. "Liz, it's always going to be a one-trip kinda deal. You know this." She leans into me and places a kiss on my cheek, forcing me to blush before she shoos past me to set the bags in the kitchen. "I know." I follow her. "I admire that. But.." I watch as she places the bags down, looking back at me. "You didn't call me on the way home."
Y/N makes a face as if she's remembering that she forgot. "Oh shit. I'm sorry! I ran into these teens in the parking lot, and then I just started thinking- I didn't worry you did I?" I just about laugh as I place my own bags down and hug her nervous look away. "You don't have to apologize. It's alright. I was a little worried, but you know that's me being worried about other drivers, not you." She unfurls her arms and places another kiss on me. Yeah... never getting tired of this. "I love you." I smile at her, shining on me. "I love you too."
"So teens, huh?" I raise an eyebrow as I pull out a box of frozen burritos?? "I know." She replies with a sheepish look. "I'll eat them when you're on set." "Thank you." I make a nod.
"Anyways, yeah, as I was walking to the car, these three girls came up to me, and they knew who I was. They even said they listened to my music and showed me my own TikTok!" I adore Y/N always, but at this moment, the love grows. Watching her body move as she rambled is a plus. Y/N finally turns to me as she puts the last of the candy onto the counter near the light switches. "Isn't that kinda cool!?" I smile brightly at her. "Yeah, sweetie, that is kinda cool."
"Sweetie?" I shrug. "Been on my mind again. Something new. Do you like?"
"I do lovey."
"Lovey?" She raises an eyebrow. I think about it. "I like it." She giggles into the crook of my neck as I do the same to her. "We're gross," Y/N whispers causing her warm breath to heat up my skin. "Very," I whisper back.
Y/N pulls away with a mischievous look to her eyes. "I was gonna show you all the candy I bought, but maybe that can wait." With a hungry look up and down me, I understand why. "But what about dinner?" I smugly ask. "Yeah, that can wait." I purposely smirk and bite my bottom lip before grabbing her hips, and in one fell swoop, I have my Y/N pushed against the kitchen island.
Y/N POV
"Actors love watching other actors do great work. Our excitement when we see an extraordinary performance is real."
"And we are so proud of what women are achieving!"
"And for only 70 cents on the dollar!" (Laughter from the crowd) "Here are the nominees!"
"...Anya Taylor-Joy. The Queens Gambit. Elizabeth Olsen. WandaVision." Beat. "And the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie goes to... Elizabeth Olsen for WandaVision!!" Sarah Paulson cheers loudly into the mic as I watch the camera swoop past a whistling Kate Winslet to the WandaVision Table. My elegantly beautiful girlfriend rises in her white Row dress and begins hugging the people behind the camera that made this show as wonderful as it was. Her last hug she shared is with her sister Courtney before stepping on the stage in the center of the room.
"Babe?"
"Okay... wow.. I have to remember to breathe now..." Liz does her nervous laugh before inhaling and exhaling. Once that's down, she gives a confident look to the camera and crowd all watching her. "First, I'd like to be honest and say that I would much rather have any of the other nominees be up here on this stage accepting this award..."
"Babe."
I slip off my left headphone and pause the YouTube video as I feel a tap on my shoulder. "Hi, sleepyhead," I say to my lovely groggy girlfriend. Her tired half-open eyes look from my laptop to me.
"What are you doing?" She asks with a droopy smile.
"Watching your Emmy acceptance speech.." That's a normal thing to say, right? "What?" She takes a closer look before turning over to pick up her phone. "Y/N, it's 3am!" She drops her phone and turns back to me. "Are you okay??" Liz rises in our bed and begins checking my head. "I'm fine. I'm fine." I shoo her hand away
"So, if you're fine, what are you doing up?"
"Couldn't sleep.."
Liz looks me over before pulling herself closer to me. Wrapping an arm around my back. "Okay.." She rubs her left eye and yawns. "Something on your mind?" "Babe, go back to sleep." Liz yawns again. "No, you're up. I'm up. So talk to me." I know this is a loving and losing battle. So I move my laptop off my thighs and scoot closer into Liz, who tenderly kisses my forehead.
Minutes go by without a word between us, so much so that I think Liz has fallen back asleep until I she shuffles closer to me and huskily asks. "Y/N?"
"Yeah?"
"Talk to me."
I sigh and own my mouth. "I just... Sometimes I can't believe where my life is at." I turn my head to her tired green eyes. "I mean, I have you. I'm doing what I finally want to do. And.. And yet... I'm just worried it's too good to be true." I turn my body and wrap myself around Liz. "Oh, Y/N.." She cups my chin and forces me to look at her face.
Even in the dead of night, she lights up my world.
"It's not too good to be true. Do you know why?" I shrug. "Because every tomorrow that comes with you is the too good to be true." She kisses me. "I don't want you to worry. I just want you."
I swallow the lump in my throat and nod.
"That was beautiful but cheesy, Liz." This time she shrugs. "It's 3am. Give me a break." I laugh into her shoulder and lean back to my spot on the bed. "Y/N?" I look over with a questioning look. "Before we both try to go back to sleep, can you answer me one question?" I nod.
"Why are you watching my Emmy Acceptance speech?" I look from the laptop to Liz. "It's become one of my comfort videos." I can hear her grin. "One of?"
"They're not all of you.." I look over and see Liz looking back at me with a teasing lip bite. I sigh. "But if you must know... The other most current one in the rotation is your fridge tour video.."
This causes Liz to double over and laugh. Hard. I groan and close my laptop because this kind of laugh means she won't be forgetting this. "Oh God, I love you."
"I love you too," I grumble, not being serious, and get rewarded with a kiss.
"Did those girls post their photo yet?"
I cuddle into Liz's big spoon. "The teens from the parking lot?" I ask. "Yeah." I actually never checked. After Liz and mine's workout and my second dinner (😏), it kind of slipped my mind to check.
"Let me look." I pick up my phone. Open Instagram and check my notifications.
There it is.

"That's very sweet. Why those hearts?" Liz hands my phone back to me. "I kinda stumbled over my words and said my favorite color was GrOrange when she asked."
"GrOrange?" Liz clarifies. I nod. "Because it was Orange, but now it's Green; my brain got confused." Liz smiles. "I remember when you told me about your favorite color." She then laughs at the memory. And it only takes one second for me to join as well. "So if your crush on Velma from Scooby-Doo made your favorite color Orange what made it Green? Shaggy?" Liz teases and asks me, knowing full well why my favorite color is Green.
"Yep. Shaggy. Shaggy and his gorgeous eyes."
"Shaggy," Liz whispers into the air between our closing lips. "Let's go to sleep, sweetie." I nod and make sure all my devices are plugged in and put away.
As my eyes get tired and Liz's breathing slows behind me, I can't help but think of what a ridiculous name GrOrange, would be for a song.
But come morning, it's already half written.
I say half because my train of thought was derailed when I received a text from Max. With a follow-up text with a link.
A/N Just a majority fluff chapter. This fic doesn't have enough of it lmaoo
