Time seemed to slow as he watched him fall just out of reach, slipping past his fingertips.

The spirit’s attack had hit dead center, right between Shou’s eyes, with no chance for him to construct a barrier. Neither of them had been expecting it, hadn’t even thought they’d encounter something like that way up here.

Ritsu had been just close enough to watch Shou’s aura stutter and flicker as he began to tip sideways, struggling to stay conscious and keep himself upright, but then it disappeared completely and then he was falling, careening towards the ground and plummeting right past Ritsu and he had been just out of reach.

Ritsu flings himself earthbound, trying to push himself to terminal velocity just to catch up, he can almost grab Shou’s ankle, he’s right there, but so is the ground, trees looming up higher and higher towards them…

He just manages to catch his fingers around Shou’s jeans, pulling him in and tucking his head into his chest as twigs snap at his wind-burnt face.

His barrier takes the brunt of the trauma, shattering on impact and leaving a crater in it’s wake. Ritsu’s vision flashes fractured-bone white before settling into blood-clot black.

The month of January brings with it many things, one of which being the myriad of winter storms that blow in and fill Ritsu’s front lawn with feet-deep piles of snow. Normally, he would be content to watch the snow fall from the warmth and comfort of his home, but Shou is insistent on bundling up and experiencing the weather for himself, and, well, Ritsu can’t find a reason to say no to him.

Shou flops down immediately in the nearest patch of untouched snow as soon as they’re outside, laughing loudly and sending snowflakes flying with his impact. Even buried in the snow, though, his bright red hair and dark blue jacket are a stark contrast to the pure white snow all around them.

Ritsu follows at a less energetic pace, lingering on the porch and flinching against the cold wind on his face. His nose begins to run almost immediately, an unpleasant sensation, but he has fond memories of playing out in the snow with his family as a kid. He finds it hard to linger on the negatives when he can starkly remember throwing snowballs at his brother and building snowmen in the front lawn during the years where the snow reached up to their knees and the biting cold didn’t seem to bother them at all. Leaning over, he dips his gloved hands into the snow and gathers up a handful of it, smooshing it together until it sticks together instead of falling between his fingers.

“What’re you waiting for, Ritsu?” Shou calls to him, already pulling himself up from the snowbank he’s collapsed. He’s already covered in snow up to his hair, flakes of it sticking in his eyebrows and piling up on the shoulders of his coat. “Stop hiding on the porch already.”

Ritsu rolls his eyes, stepping off the porch and immediately sinking ankle-deep into the snow on his lawn. “You were the one who wanted to play in the snow,” he points out, turning the snowball over and over in his hands to shape it. Maybe, he thinks, if he keeps adding more snow, it’ll become big enough to form the base of a snowman. He starts to make his way over to Shou, who’s run out into the middle of the yard already and left Ritsu behind to stand at its edge.

“Yeah, ‘cause it’s fun!” Shou insists with a grin, reaching up to shake the snow from his hair with one mitten-clad hand.

Ritsu’s eye is drawn to it, and he finds himself looking into Shou’s face, just a bit below his eye level. Shou’s always stood out, his wild hair and loud personality hard to ignore, but against the white backdrop of the snow-covered street, he’s impossible to miss. After a moment, Ritsu notices that there are snowflakes clinging to Shou’s eyelashes, and the sight of it strikes him as oddly pretty. He’s never seen Shou like this; it’s the first winter they’ve experienced as friends, and, well, he supposes he’s still getting used to seeing Shou’s more carefree, fun, relaxed side. It’s something he doesn’t really see often.

“Ritsu?” Shou asks, waving a hand in front of his face and quirking a brow at him questioningly. There’s a smirk on his face, and he looks simultaneously amused and confused, a teasing remark in his eyes that he won’t know how to word until he’s figured out what to say. “You alright? You’re spacing out.”

Ritsu blinks, and realizes that he’s been staring at Shou for likely longer than is traditionally appropriate. There are words on the tip of his tongue that he can’t quite grasp, something he feels and wants to say, but can’t articulate in a way that’s meaningful. His chest feels tighter than usual, and for a moment, he doesn’t know how to react. He feels his own heart beating and his grip on his snowball is stiff in immoveable.

He takes a fast breath through his nose, holds it for a second, and then promptly smashes his snowball into Shou’s face. He grinds the palm of his gloves hand against Shou’s forehead and feels his mouth quirk into an involuntary grin before he can stop it as his friend yelps in surprise and sputters indignantly. “I was just admiring how much better you look with snow in your eyes,” he replies, stepping back a few steps and lifting a hand to his chin as though to appraise Shou’s new appearance.

He doesn’t realize his mistake until he sees Shou scrub the snow from his eyes and len over to gather up some ammunition of his own, and before he has to chance to retreat, a snowball snacks him squarely in the center of his chest. “If it’s a fight you want, you’d better be ready for it!” Shou challenges.

The moment is lost, forgotten amidst the start of the snowball fight and their own raucous laughter, lost behind snowbanks used as protective forts and taunts called across the yard to draw the other out for an easy shot. Lost, but not for good, Ritsu knows, as he nails Shou in the arm with his second shot of the day. But, Ritsu thinks as he stares at his best from from across their veritable battlefield, there will be time for that later.

OH BOY DO I!!!!!!!! i love ritshou headcanons and have Too Many

shou loves playing with ritsu’s hair. it’s super soft and ritsu always makes a face when he does it and it never fails to make shou laugh. whenever he’s down but doesn’t want to talk about it, he’ll just play with ritsu’s hair

as they get older, ritsu becomes a decent bit taller than shou. like, at least 3 or 4 inches. however, shou bulks up and becomes strong enough to carry ritsu places, which he definitely does, mostly for shits. 

ritsu and shou both have bad eyesight. shou wears contacts and has ever since he was old enough not to accidentally take out his eye when he put them in, but ritsu refuses to admit that his eyesight is anything less than perfect, so he squints a lot. he squints a lot and then fails an eye exam, and the rest is history. 

whenever ritsu is studying and he doesn’t know if he truly, truly gets something, he’ll explain it to shou and if shou gets what he’s saying, then he knows he’s good. shou is one of the only people he trusts to know that he doesn’t always get academic stuff perfect on the first try

they both have awful sleep schedules. ritsu just doesn’t sleep a lot because he feels the need to get up early but also stay up late and he hides exhaustion with five-hour energy, and shou has almost certainly switched up his days and his nights and become basically nocturnal. when they get together, afternoon naps become a common occurance

one of their favorite things to do is going traveling together! even if it’s just to the next city over. once shou figures out teleportation, they go even more places and have international adventures. ritsu is the sort of traveler with a “japanese to [insert language here]” dictionary and he tries very hard to speak the language, so locals adore him. whenever they aren’t interacting with the people and sight-seeing and buying dumb tourist gifts, they’ll go exploring on their own and find their own cool spots. they accidentally interrupted a monk’s year-long cave meditation like that. ritsu only felt a little bit bad about it

scar kisses. that’s all i have to say here. scar kisses. 

since shou likes to draw and ritsu spends a lot of time journaling, they go stationary shopping together. they both have an eye for the Good Paper and are horrible notebook hoarders. also pens. they both have lots and lots of pens and sometimes who originally owned which one gets mixed up

they actually both wear the same size clothing (shou is shorter but  more muscle-y, so it evens out) so there’s a lot of clothes theft on both sides of thing. looking at you, canonical same jacket. i’m looking at you. 

and i’m going to stop here because i don’t want to clog dashboards, but you know. i am always down to talk about ritshou content.

13. Who stays up late? Who sleeps the most? Does the other have to force them to sleep/wake up?

Ritsu stays up late. Ritsu would also argue he doesn’t stay up late, but that’s because he simply doesn’t go to sleep. He can, and does, stay up all night to work or read or trick nightmares (though he gets less and less as time passes.)

Momozou is the one who sleeps the most. Both hearing thoughts and blocking them out is tiring, and sometimes the noise will completely prevent him from sleeping –as a result he’s often tired. With this combined with Ritsu’s tendency to pull all-nighters, they’re a couple of many naps.

Ritsu often has to be dragged to bed, or he won’t sleep at all. When Momozou doesn’t sleep, it’s rarely by choice, so it’s less forcing and more helping with painkillers and attempts at muffling the noise. Neither of them are morning people though, but while waking up involves a lot of groaning they usually get up by themselves. But if one of them is more likely to need a bit more convincing, it’s probably Momozou.

15. Vacation ideas: who decides them? Where would they go, if anywhere?

Of course, Shou decides. Ritsu would work himself to the grave if he could, so Shou has to call the breaks for him most of the time. Ritsu rarely protests for long, there isn’t much to be done when Shou has decided something (and he usually knows he needs that vacation, even if he protests.)

I like going along with the idea that Shou has more money than he could ever need, so they could go anywhere they wanted. It could go from a simple change of scenery in the next city to going around Europe for a few weeks, depending on the time they have and how much of a break they can afford. Ritsu has never gone out of Seasoning City much, so anywhere Shou takes him in an adventure – and anywhere is perfect, as long as Shou is with him.

1. things that inspire you

To be honest, mostly other people’s work! Art is really good, but fics always give me tons of ideas. I’m intending to go back and edit the notes of some of my fics to give specific credit. A lot of it comes from the music I listen to, too! The Used is especially good for this, but lately it’s been The Offspring.

2. things that motivate you

FEEDBACK. I love getting comments and reblogs with tags. They’re my lifeblood. I’ve gotten two pieces of fanart for my fics before and have even had people call me an inspiration! It makes my heart swell.

3. name three favorite writers

In no particular order (and not limited to just three, I couldn’t pick!)… PepperHeights/ @paperclipmuseum, ruthwrites/ @ruemilly, Ravenesta/ @subcorax, EventualGhost/ @shcherbatskayas, Maripo/ @spoonie-ritsu, and inspectorwired/ @inspectorwired are some of my favorites!

4. name three authors that were influential to your work and tell why

The most influential has definitely been Cannelia/ @hydrachea, I can drop a totally random thought (which will lead to a full on flow chart of other random thoughts) into her DMs and she’ll let me chatter at her in big long run-on sentences until I run myself out of steam. It’s incredibly helpful and she’s a wealth of passion and fluff and good headcanons.

I know it’s in comic form and not fics, but @sandflakedraws is…such a good inspiration for angst. I just adore their Attic AU.

And the Haunted House series by reiqenarataka makes me want to write horror, it’s so good! I love the idea of that kind of creepy, personal hell type horror and I want to do things more like that for my future gore…

5. since how long do you write?

Since May, 2017! …Oh, holy shit, that was almost a full year ago. Wild.

6. how did writing change you?

I’ve definitely gained more of an appreciation for how much fanartists/writers go through. I am even more determined now to support them through things like reblogs and comments and stuff! Writing has also given me a boost to talk to more people and it even made me some friends here! It’s pretty nice.

7. early influences on your writing

I remember as a kid I fell in love with bittersweet endings. I read a manga called Chrono Crusade by Daisuke Moriyama and a short story called Bite-Me-Not or, Fleur de Fur (which is where my username comes from!) by Tanith Lee. And I love that kind of thing, not perfect, not completely OK, but good enough. It’s enough.

8. what time are you most productive?

Trick question, I’m never very productive. I work overnights, so I’m usually at my most awake and energetic at about 2-3 AM. I always have a bit of a boost after I get out of the house and do something with my family for the weekend, too.

9. do you set yourself deadlines?

I used to, back when I was writing much shorter chapters for Now We Match. I’ve pretty much given up on that now, though, haha. The only exceptions now are for events (I’m hoping to have stuff ready in advance for @shouritshou‘s Ritshou Summer Week this time!).

10. how do you do your researches?

I’m not gonna lie…it’s mostly just a quick google search. If it’s something that’s not easily found, I’ll probably just not make it a prominent part of the story. I have the Wiki Page about flower meanings saved to my phone for My Flowers Were For You haha.

openly i’d say definitely shou! he’d be one of those people who is very clingy and constantly reminds anyone nearby that “this is my boyfriend” and doesn’t hide how goofy and affectionate he is while ritsu just stands there embarrassed/rolling his eyes. secretly i feel like ritsu would initiate things more and do very soft, subtle romantic things that flusters shou a lot

💛: who believes in soulmates?

ritsu would be too logic-based to put much faith in the idea of a soulmate (sure, in theory it sounds great! but cynicism kind of clouds that notion). shou however would be much more open to readily believe that everyone has a soulmate and of course ritsu is his, like, their meeting was perfect! (nothing says meant to be like beating up your match and burning down their house)
