"yellowjackets has always been a tragedy"
no. the teen story line has always been a tragedy. we walked into this show knowing things were always going to end tragically in the wilderness.
the adult story line was not doomed to be tragic and i'm getting so sick of hearing that it was as a way to dismiss criticism of nat's death. think about the season one finale. the adult story line ended with:
taissa winning an election as a result of spinning her shadow self's actions
misty murdering a woman to protect her friends
shauna truly connecting with her husband and getting away with murder
natalie attempting suicide but being interrupted
not a single one of these things is a tragic outcome. and around them, the adult timeline was still plenty dark: simone finding the shrine, natalie's emotional state, the peripheral characters being murdered, the women discussing how traumatized they are. but dark and tragic are not synonymous. these bullet points are all hopeful places to leave the characters. and the first three are specifically power fantasies of women "winning" when they would normally be punished.
stop conflating the teen and adult timelines. part of what made the season one finale so good was the comparison between the loss in the teen timeline and the successes in the adult one. the change to having nothing but loss in both timelines is new. and i'm tired of seeing people dismiss anyone who had expectations of some form of hope in the adult timeline as blind or incompetent, when the season one finale was giving us exactly that kind of hope.

loving a dead fictional character is so insane. I saw you in myself. You don't know me but my voice is part of your body. I made a playlist for you and the songs are for funerals. You fell in love again and again and still you died. My love wasn't enough to save you. In another universe I would have saved you but since I can't I'll make you suffer. The only parts of you that are real are the parts that I can see. Your past is a black hole that I am trying to fill with just my hands. You died in your best friend's arms and I was mourning you long before then. I would have buried you better than they did. I loved you better than they did. I will never see your grave. I hate you for how it ended. I'm sorry

Why am I always more invested in side characters than in main characters in like every show I watch??
I'm almost done with Kimi ni Todoke and wondering if they're gonna tie up the Ryu and Chizuru storyline or what 🫠

One thing I just don't understand is the people begging showrunners for another season of a show that's clearly reached its logical end. I mean, yeah, of course I get the feeling of not wanting something you've been following and watching since the very beginning to be over, I've been there too. But I also understand that prolonging the show is, most of the time, way worse than just letting it reach its natural conclusion. So many shows have been made worse by their long runtime, the worst example I can think of currently being Riverdale or Dragon Ball. At one point, the plot just gets lost, and you don't know what you're watching anymore. Television is a form of expression, as in; most ppl make stuff, so it can reach other people and mean something. If you take the heart out of it, you end up with something mindlessly endless that's just there for shallow entertainment. You can choose between that, or something that was significant and important but finite. Idk how y'all see it and frankly don't really care, but to me, the latter is worth much more.
