A brief summary of the guitars I've made.

#1 — My first guitar.

This one was designed after a '72 thinline. The shade of orange was chosen to match the McLaren F1 colors, as Fender's custom colors used to be automotive paints, but McLaren was a kiwi so it's a cool twist. It features a piezo system to capture the acoustic sounds, and SD Antiquity humbuckers because they sound good and are used by Laura and James of Against Me!. The soundhole is a modified treble clef, as that is a stylized G which matches both my first and last initial.

#2 — A Strat

A stratocaster style design for a very dear friend of mine. The things as heavy as an anchor because of the specific piece of wood used on the body, and the flame figure on the neck is still one of my favorite things. The pickups are made by Mr Glyn, a local maker and someone who was integral to me starting this career.

Bonus! Swamp Kauri LP style thing.

Swamp kauri is incredibly special — wood thousands of years old preserved in the anaerobic environment. I didn't make this, but I did the technical stuff and helped and advised. It was a huge step up for my fretwork, finish work, and inlay work that's now paying off for the current projects. It's now in France!

In progress:

Jazzmaster commission — featuring block inlays, another flame maple neck, binding, and a whole host of fun things. Just about ready for paint but want to string it up first.

Bass — for my lil bro, custom inlays, custom electronic scheme, musicman pickups. Gonna be wild, just need to finish fretboard and neck then it's ready for paint.

Also a myriad of future plans where hopefully the new CNC techniques I'm practicing will massively improve turnaround time, but at the moment I've just been flat out with the maintenance side of the business. Lets me know what not to do tho! So many terrible design decisions I've come across that just don't hold up over time and I just don't want to contribute to making some future repair person sad.

Kintsugi-inspired visible mend of my tobacco pipe.

I put off fixing this way too long because I thought I'd need a special adhesive, but when I finally looked into it all the tobacco-pipe people said to just use CA glue. Took a minute, job done.

I didn't love the slight visible crack that was left, so I carved it wider with a small rotary tool & packed it with brass powder & more CA glue. Sanded it down and re-stained the wood. It only added about 15 minutes to the task and I'm much, much happier with the result

I also make kumihimo bracelets. I've made one ridiculous tiered necklace. Could probably do earrings, bookmarks. The artist who got me into it makes hand-fasting cords.

I also crochet and cross-stitch. The order that Etsy lost their marbles about is a custom cross-stitch piece. I've sold some cotton crocheted produce bags, and I'm working on some stuff to decorate my step-daughter's room when she gets here.

And husbff does calligraphy. When I poke him with the clue by four.

I think we could probably set something up through ko-fi?

i brought back my carpal tunnel finishing the last two squares and i still have at least a few hours of work left 🥲

. but since i no longer have a deadline hanging over my head (well other than the fact that the baby is due in like a month) I'm gonna take a little extra time and unravel the wonky bit of crochet I did on the middle square. {around 4 rounds(? rows? i don't know the right term) into looking at how it got all ruffle-y i figured out what i did wrong but didn't have the 3 hours to undo and fix it. }

I'm gonna chalk all the work that im undoing up to learning experience - i did get so much better at crochet in the time i spent working on this one granny square {all the others are knit cause I have knit at least one scarf and a lil frog prior to starting this, so i was more confident in my ability to do it that way than crochet the whole thing (having said that I can see how much my knitting has improved since i started it - a trained eye could pick out the order i made the squares in)}

I am over all impressed I got as far as I did w/o giving up – this is by far the biggest yarn based project I have ever undertaken

Hex Inverter Amulet

This hex inverter amulet formerly belonged to the esteemed thaumatologist Malinor 4.1, who famously said "two wrongs don't make a right, but six ones or six zeros can make six zeros or six ones, respectively."

Laser cut on walnut, with brass inlay. In electronics, an inverter is a type of logic gate that outputs the opposite of what it receives. When an integrated circuit has 6 of something, it's called a hex (whatever), so an IC with 6 inverters is called a Hex Inverter, which just happens to also sound like an important bit of protective magic. The center of this amulet has a circuit diagram for a hex inverter IC, surrounded by electronic & alchemical symbols

The inlay's a little sloppy, so here's one without it. Maybe it's better this way?
