I may regret asking this, but I have an interdenominational, interfaith question about the literalness of the Bible for folks who are familiar with the doctrine of the more conservative denominations of Christianity.

So in the more traditional branches of Judaism, it is generally held that the Torah was given to Moses on Mt. Sinai, word-for-word. However, the other two sections of the Tanakh are not literally the Word of God, but rather the words of the prophets and important sacred writings (poems, histories, etc.) Now, obviously there is a spectrum of beliefs and more liberal Jews will attribute the five books of Moses to more earthly sources, while still holding them as very sacred. However, even the strictest of orthodox Jews still interpret the Torah and base their understanding of halacha on the Talmud and commentaries. Bottom line: in Judaism, the absolute *most* amount of sacred texts that form the Hebrew Bible that are attributable to God as God's direct words are the books of Torah, which are still interpreted by human beings to be able to be put into practice.

However, I have come across an alarming amount of Christians who say they take the [whole?] Bible literally. I genuinely don't understand what is meant by this, as only the first five books were ever attributed to God as direct revelation, and so even if you assume that the New Testament is also 100% verbatim word-of-God revelation (which I don't know for certain if these Christians do assume that) you're still missing the vast chunk of the Prophets and Writings from the Old Testament.

So I guess my questions are: When Christians say they 'take the [whole] Bible literally,' what do they actually mean by this in practice, since even the Hebrew Bible (never mind the whole Christian Bible) has tons of apparent contradictions that can only be resolved through interpretation? Is this actually common and/or historical doctrine? Or is this American Christianity being bizarre, especially in the last 50 years?

Do Christians who hold by this concept make a distinction between the books of Torah and the rest of the Bible? If not, how do they get around the fact that the other books were not verbatim revelation?

like… i get it. it’s a video game series. one would expect to be able to play a video game instead of essentially watching a bunch of movies. that’s fair. but if you care about kingdom hearts as a franchise, whether you’re an old nostalgic vet or a newbie, doesn’t the story matter to you??? wouldn’t you do what it takes to be immersed in this world in order to fully understand the story going forward? if it’s just the gameplay you’re after like idk man i feel like you could find a similar style of gameplay as a replacement out there but idk

point is. one would have to be completely blind at this point to not realize that the mobile games are full of lore that are relevant to sora’s own journey and especially will be going forward. nomura has made it clear he’s not forgetting about sora and he’s never gonna replace him as the protagonist and heart and soul of the series. it is simply not possible to jump between numerical titles and still comprehend this stuff. this is where the series is going. there’s this thing in fiction called plot progression where some narrative threads will be resolved and left behind while new ones will be picked up. and it’s up to the author to determine this, not the nostalgia of fans. either drop the series as a whole or get on board with where it’s going

the original khχ came out like what, 10 years ago? almost half the runtime of the franchise. it is not new anymore. this is not new information. anyone who still hasn’t bothered to pay attention to that whole storyline at this point, even given all the hard work that fans have put to make it more accessible to either casuals or specifically stubborn people like that, then like. skill issue tbh.

and people complaining it’s all way too complicated? man.., find another series. i feel like it should be self-evident that this series is not known for narrative simplicity. it’s known for making everyone insane in a good way. even back in kh1 stuff was always kind of wild. everyone’s beloved kh2 is especially where we start ramping up the insanity. i fail to see how all that’s ok but the concepts of more keyblade wielders and like a lengthy timeline aren’t. after 20+ years it should be evident that things aren’t so simple and clean.

Honestly, I'd personally love to see D2 take some breaks. Maybe have 2-3 years between expansions with, instead of seasonal content, smaller permanent content drops (alongside our few annual special events) between. It would mean longer without brand new content, but it would also mean the new content could be more expansive, more polished, and hopefully devs having even better working conditions. Obviously the "MORE ALL THE TIME MORE MORE MORE" crowd would never survive that, but it's sort of what's needed if they want better content. (But also I suspect the only way D2 could do that would be if they swapped to a sub model, and I don't see that happening. It also wouldn't work great if they kept their FOMO model alongside a sub model, vs what some other games do where you can sub and unsub as desired and won't miss out on important story, lore, etc. content)

Same, I would really love more time between content too. I don't personally mind seasons, but I think seasons should be longer or have more time between them. Definitely fewer seasons per year.

But yeah, it would need some massive changes to how the game works, how content is managed, what players can expect and so on. Historically Destiny gamers have been quite annoyed by any longer waits between content drops which is probably partially what inspired the seasonal model. And any normal player is often oversaturated with this model as it is now, but the same people who complained before are complaining now as well. So there's no winning here with the Gamers (TM).

They did announce some changes post-TFS that they'll tell us about during the showcase so we'll probably get some insight into how things will go after. I assume there will be some changes to this model. I hope they go for more breaks and longer dev cycles.

If it's true what Domenicali has said that so many venues and countries want to stage an F1 race, why can't we just have a rotating calender? Have all these venues stage races on alternate years? Keep the set races on the calender that stay each year but have the others been on the schedule every other year? That way all these venues that apparantly want to hold an F1 race get to do so, but there isn't the higher risk of burnout from F1 staff and fans because of the massive calender and F1 staff actually get time to develop the cars and have time off. There is no need to add more races to the set calender every year. 23 is plenty enough already.
