kept awake by the fact that mike didn’t even TRY and hit the water when he stepped off the cliff at the quarry. like he didn’t even try. he just stepped off the edge. he didn’t even leap or run. he just stood there and finally stepped off, as if he’d been on the edge for awhile, both literally/physically and metaphorically/mentally.

like what was it that Powell and Callahan said about Joyce in season 1? Yknow, the only other person alongside Mike who believed Will was still alive and therefore they’re paralleled to eachother in that way and likely other ways? Oh right, they said:

“Joyce? About one step from falling off the edge.”

“She’s been a few steps for awhile now, hasn’t she?”

Just like Mike. Mike literally at the quarry was one step away from falling off the edge (he STEPPED OFF, FELL OFF, he didn’t jump, just like how Joyce has been a “few steps” from “falling off” the edge), but stood there for a fair while/walked up to it and was literally “a few steps away for awhile” from it. this applies not only physically to Mike but also mentally/emotionally. It took so little to make Mike step off the edge because mentally he’d already been on that edge for awhile, already been a “few steps from the edge.”

like do we really think this specific wording related to Joyce’s grief and depression is just coincidental in how it aligns exactly with Mike’s actions? That they chose to write those lines in that specific way for fun? That they chose to have Mike STEP off the edge instead of jump off because they were in a silly goofy mood? Do you think that they connected Mike’s actions to Joyce’s grief over Will via that quote and then ALSO had mike step off at the EXACT same spot where Will was though to have died all accidentally?? Because the duffers tripped and dropped that subtext in there? NO! It’s deeper than Dustin’s baby teeth for Mike, deeper than the bullies. It’s about grief and loss and depression and Mike’s self-sacrificing but also self-loathing nature and his difficulty with processing loss and strange tendency to both catastrophize AND be good in a crisis. (hint: he’s probably so good in crises BECAUSE of how his brain catastrophizes and goes to the worst case scenario, because it means that he’s more ready for that worst case scenario. but it also leads to him being READY to do ‘worst case scenario’ things like stepping off of a cliff to his death.)

Michael “‘See? Physics!’ in s3” Wheeler very likely knew that he wouldn’t hit the water with the way he ‘jumped’ (key point: he didn’t jump, he stepped off) He Knew. It was never just about the baby teeth.

the parallels, the symbolism, the acknowledgment, the respect, the care- *chef's kiss* there is simply so much to their dynamic that I can get lost in it for days. Correction- years.

My Toh self-insert lore masterpost

His name is Verano Azul and he's black/white mixed dominican-Not the Demon Realm equivalent like Willow being korean but as in one of his parent's is from Earth and dominican.The parent in question is named Esta and is something of a dark parallel to Luz,a human who ended up on the Boiling Isles and is instead a magic hater who sides with Belos because she grew up catholic with 'fairy tales' about him.His other parent is named Invierno and he has an older brother named Otoño who goes by Oto

Esta and Invierno are abusive to him because of intergenerational trauma from their latino heritage and encourage Oto to bully him and uphold him as 'the sibling they raised right'.Verano had severe self-eestem issues because of this and it was only added on to by being bullied at Hexside for his shyness and obvious hybrid status(having non-pointed ears,which this amazing picrew sadly dosen't provide)

He's the same age as Luz and was a trio with Willow and Gus until she came along and made them a quartet.He met his first ever two friends the same day they met eachother when they saw him getting bullied by Boscha and Gus caused a distraction with his illusions so Willow could sneak him away to a hiding spot and Gus hid too to avoid Boscha's wrath.Once school let out,Verano nervously approached them to thank them and hung out with them the next day which turned into every day after that

He's in the healing track/coven and got shit from his family for it because they wanted him to 'take a more useful one' and his palisman is a pink strawberryonic dragon named Fresa

Los Padres Azules also never truly let him be feminine as a kid and called him an ungrateful brat for asking for things like children's makeup kits and dolls so as part of her redemption arc,Amity teaches him how to be femme and buys him the stuff they refused to and a particularly special item he's always wearing because it was the first one she bought him is his plain pink choker

His fashion sense is pastel and mostly girly but with some masc hints here and there since he's bigender and it makes him happy with himself.He's short and scrawny and has naturally 4b hair he was forced to relax by his racist mom growing up and he dyes a baby pink streak in it in season 3 as a bonding activity with Amity and Willow until the epilogue where we see he's switched to twists and several streaks and gone from regular pastel to pastel punk

He also invented video games in Demon Realm since Luz introduced him to them and he learned how to make them as he loved them enough for it to become a special interest.He started with an unused pink Tamagotchi gift from Luz and worked his way up to a whole technological revolution he used purely for good(I.e entertainment,education,comfort and so forth games only)

Has a genderfluid pride pin on his dress in Thanks To Them and in the time he spent on earth is when he discovered punk culture and got radicalized and learned he was actually a social butterfly who just hadn't found the right people-The 'right people' being the rest of the Hexside Squad,Vee and Masha.Him and Masha are pastel/goth besties and they get in on the Residencia Noceda secret thanks to it because in this verse we got the full season we deserved and Veesha gets to unfold onscreen like Lumity did and there's also extra Grimwalker lore bits and backstory on Luz's earth life and Camila is a major mc

Eda becomes a mother figure to him throught his frequent visits to The Owl House to see Luz and adopts him mid-season 1 after finding out he's being abused thanks to him accidentally revealing it during one of their conversation's.She went to the Azul residence and tricked his parents into giving her custody via adoption papers and easily beat them when they tried to fight her.Oto wasn't around to witness it but is still scared shitless of her and avoids Verano from then on(He does apologize in For The Future and Verano says he accepts but dosen't wanna be around him anymore and he respects that).Raine is also his parent due to their's and Eda's marriage and there's not a day without both chaos and wholesomeness with them

Considers Camila his official parent too(and she sees him as her son and daughter)and is eternally grateful to her for teaching him about blackness unlike Invierno.Perry,who was never told about Verano's abuse until after Eda came along,did teach him a few things but sadly couldn't get many because of him still living with his racist parents

And his final parent is Darius.This one has funny reasons because the context is that the two of them got so close thanks to Verano being best friends with Hunter that Darius kept dropping hints to Eda he wanted shared custody and she teased him into admitting outright and laughed at his embarrased anger before agreeing to it.Verano was overjoyed when they told him and told them into a group hug after them each a platonic cheek kiss,squealing about how much he loves them and what they were going to do as a family.He also ends up being All Tracks due to his mixed home life making him learn so many magic types

His Bad Girls coven shirt is all shades of pink and he adores King and Darius' abominations so much and technically lives with both Raeda and him due to how often he stays over at his.Verano got a taste of the fine life starting in 'Abnomination and Son and Daughter' when it started and he learned to employ a couple of his daily routines and mannerisms into his own.He calls Darius 'Daddy' instead of Dad and the man started sobbing on the spot the first it happened

His full name is technically Verano Azul Clawthorne Noceda Whispers Deamonne but for the sake of shortness he just uses his first name when introducing himself

When he started unmasking,he turned into a very bubbly and optimistic weirdgirl who slowly became a Team Mom as his friend circle grew.His favorite stims are chewy necklaces,flappy hands,running around and echolalia,he's good ar handling meltdowns,his special interests are dragons,cats,ghosts,video games,pink and anarchy/chaos,his safe foods are booding and Dairy Queen(post/during season 3)and he has a whole diy'd backpack of safe items he carries around

Like the rest of the Hexside Squad,he had an episode dedicated to his first meeting with Hunter and their's was called 'Little Pink Flying Hood and The Hunter'.It took place post Eclipse Lake but pre Hollow Mind and had them bumping forehead first into eachother due to his broom going out of control and getting lost in woods and trying to find their way back home.They became friends at the end as they bonded deeply,including Verano telling him he dosen't have to be perfect and Hunter responding that they don't need to feel like a freak either.They don't reveal his secret identity in ASIAS but there's a running gag that he thinks they will and at one point they snark that if he keeps at it they'll spill the beans

Verano,Willow,Gus and Hunter are called 'The Four Emeralds' and their group chat they created after Darius gave Hunter his phone is titled that and it's extremely chaotic but sweet

His Flapjack tatto is on his right palm

He's Gus and Mat's wingmanwoman and finds Mat's cringe to be super cool.They're something of a subtrio as they get their own episode with Steve too that's about brotherhood shenanigans(The Tholomule bros with Verano + Verano and Gus),gay anticts(Gustholomule)and trans femme swag(Verano)and it's called 'Oh brother,where art tholomule?'.This trinity's name is 'The Creation Counts'(yeah,like the vampire joke.They are dorks SUPREME)

His halloween costume was a pink and white dragoncat onesie with blue catdragon face paint and strawberry scented paws

He's a Penstagram influencer technically but the influence is just him being witch Megan Thee Stallion where he just posts positivity,humor,him having fun and activism related things.Also as an adult he posts 'thirst traps' that're just him having that drip but the Healer Girl Summer Nation go wild

He also appears in Chibi Tales and was redrawn as Tiana in her blue dress fit for Black History Month by an artist on the crew.His character is meant to be representation for black femmes like how Luz is for black baby butches

The second design is from a swap au created by @theautisticcentre where he's the grimwalker instead of Hunter so rather than Philip,Belos had a sickening obsession with a mulatta from his time period and Verano's name is instead 'Victoria Wittebane' as a result.Belos holds no attraction to 'her',an egg he forces not to crack out of being a puritan,but he's a very awful 'father' to Victoria and she's known as 'The Golden Maiden'.If you want more lore,go ahead and ask Mathew about,he is a fantastic content creator and takes requests for headcanons and fics as well♡

And the 3rd design is canon complaint,as Belos gets his hands on Verano to torment Hunter and Luz in Watching and Dreaming by 'dehumanizing' him to show Verano's 'true self' by making him half Dragon,dragons being on par with Titans in godhood status but considered lesser than them and having been at war as a result like they were with Collectors,but this backfired on him because Verano is dragonkin/a dragon therian and Titan Luz and 'Dragono' defeated him at last together in a show of sisterhood,holding hands when they finished and going back to their loved ones while leaning on eachother for support.Like i headcanon Titan!Luz,Dragono still lingers in Verano

And also like his hermana,he regularly travels between worlds and it turns out there's a place called Dragonland that's kept secret to avoid new conflict and he becomes an ambassador for them!!!

wait im new to mass effect and am romancing thane for hot dilf reasons pls tell me all about vakarios, i only ever see people talk about garrus not thane

Oh BOY anon you’ve got a big thing coming on my vakarios brain rot Okok SO sit back and lemme just word dump on you on why and how I just really love me vakarios so much:

SO first things first don’t get me wrong I am a huge sucker for thane/Shepard, garrus/Shepard and specifically thane/shepard/garrus because i have personal headcanons etc and my canon is always Shakarios BUT vakarios is my thane/garrus part of all this

I love the idea of garrus/thane realizing they have a lot of parallels to eachother and thane seeing a bit of himself in garrus:

Example:

Thane talks about being in battlesleep for 10 years after the death of his wife Irikah where he basically went on a revenge quest and killed everyone involved in her murder. He comes to realize he made a mistake in terms of not staying with Kolyat and ultimately revenge not giving him the fulfillment he needed.

Garrus can be labeled as a man who is going through his own battlesleep after Shepard dies. For 2 years he basically said fuck it and went to omega to “clean up” and seek Justice against the criminals that he couldn’t take down in c-sec. It’s implied that he was devastated after Shepard died no matter if fem/bro shep and then it just snowballs when he’s betrayed by Sidonis. Garrus falls into his own small form of battlesleep given you can’t really talk to him much as Shepard until he tells you about his revenge quest for a loyalty mission.

I like to see the Normandy crew in me2 as a ragtag group of people who come together and become something of a family so they all get to see the ugliest and best sides of eachother and I love the concept thane and garrus would become good friends based off being snipers at first but then relating over the histories they’ve had. Thane is able to relate to Garrus’s seeking of revenge and has a different perspective over it.

Now when you play as Shepard and you go the route of stopping him from killing Sidonis consider that you’re kind of replicating the whole thing that thane went through with Irikah. Irikah stepped in thane’s way to stop him from killing someone and Shepard is doing the same for garrus.

It’s not until after this that Garrus will begin to see things clearer and differently and I love the concept of both thane and garrus realizing they have so much in common. This also can happen if Sidonis is killed. Garrus may be filled with that void of it not really helping him solve anything. He killed him via battlesleep and is barely coming out of it with the help of Shepard and crew.

Another thing is Garrus isn’t a stranger to losing someone close to him because of illness. His mother becoming sick etc has him as one of the only people on the Normandy who would probably know how to care for and make things as relaxing/comfortable for someone going through something similar (thane w his keprals) and like consider them just bonding over this in general.

And last but not least thane and his dry fuckin humor would make him and Garrus really close.

All in all I am a fan of every ship/crackship/rarepair etc because It’s fun to pair characters so i know vakarios isn’t for everyone but hell it makes me happy and lots of possibilities for it so :3 thanks for letting me ramble anon.

It's funny people are losing it over the byler fight possibly being based off a romantic fight, in the highschool musical sequel. Because , byler (long before s4) has been paralleled to romantic pairings - that are from shows/films that are confirmed ST inspo. It's not new. The writers also said the original highschool musical was inspo for s4 ... so the idea the sequel is also inspo, is fairly possible. I even said a few years ago , and got teased by the way ,for mentioning how gabriel/Troy parallel byler because : Byler knew eachother since kindergarten. And in the og film- troy/gabriel say it's "feels" like they've know eachother since they were in kindergarten. They say it a bunch in the first film .And now people are noticing the byler fight (via dialogue and framing) also parallels troy/Gabriella's fight.

But did yall also forget the byler s3 fight (which parallels the s4 fight) was also based off a different romantic scene from a diff series? I noticed/mentioned this parallel - years ago. Duffers said they were huge fans of Dawson's creek.

In the D.C scene the 2 childhood friends try to deny their romantic feelings and fight about it ...one character does so with one very interesting line :

The character who says the same line as mike: is actually in love with their childhood friend. Yet uses this exact line to change the subject/deny their feelings to their friend (when confronted by them).

Also d.c had an endgame gay couple (what's funny is - one had a sister, the other had a brother. Their straight siblings dated before them- but eventually they broke up. And the gay siblings ,started dating later,and were endgame).

Also look at the framing of the gay realization: both occur at the end of an episode where we see them hugging a girl ,and only see the back of the girls' heads - as they zoom in on the guys' faces filled with turmoil.

Even after the gay realization/scene in d.c ,he (jack) pretends to be straight and still dates the main girl for a bit longer. Both are rich guys who initially date the main girl character (because they are in deep denial about being lgbt). And both have a smart overachiever sister who initially dates a guy who is poor,and has a shitty dad.And by the end jack dates the brother of his sister's ex. And this (straight ) brother always assumed his brother was gay and was also an ally to jack,before the jack and his brother dated- reminds me a bit of jonathan.

Some also thought the s3 byler fight reminded them of the fight between a gay pairing in " eyewitness". It has no confirmation of being inspo by the Duffers (unlike hsm or d.c). But the framing is very similar... coincidence or not. The boy on the same side as mike (has a gf, and was in serious denial/repression about his romantic feelings for the other guy, during said fight.) That boy had so much internalized homophobia- especially because he was from/lived in a small town. Their fight in a garage, the car in the background, the lighting . Coincidence or not the parallel is definitely something else... lol

Eyewitness even has another similar scene, which i really disliked in both shows: dude in woods with camera records love interest... cough with someone else doing , y'know. Yall remember that mess in s1 of stranger things. Ick.But, I digress.

Also byler in s2 is based off Ghostbusters. And name dropped in the show. Mike said he was Venkman. Venkman's love interest was Dana (Will): who gets possessed, and then can control demon dogs during said possession, one demondog was in her fridge too, they have to close the gate to break her possession. Does any of this sound very familiar. Cause it should...

And in s1 mike writes a d&d story where king Tristan (Will) gives mike and his friends medals at the end of s1. Like the end of the original star wars film where princess leia gave medals to han (her future love interest) and han's friends . Mike, a star wars nerd: replaced princess leia for a king (Will)- who gave medals (to their future love interest) . The medal ceremony was romantic foreshadowing since Han winks at leia after she gives him the medal.

There's more examples.little woman was s4 inspo. Dude dates girl, but he ends up with his ex's artist sibling -instead. Before that-the artist 3rd wheeled her sister and future love interest while the 2 were skating /holding hands. Aka just like Will watching mike and el skate. Or heck "it" series is confirmed inspo too-ben/bev/bill parallels Will/mike/El. Bev (mike) gets romantic poem (painting). Bev (mike) assumes the poem (painting ) is from Bill (El) when it's actually from Ben (Will). Bev was into Bill, but later she realized the poem is from Ben. When she realized the words were from ben- they became endgame. So if Mike ever finds out the truth of the painting (what will happen?).

But literally every season byler is paralleled to a romantic pairing from a show/film the duffers or writers like. The fact byler scenes are often based off romantic pairings/scenes is strange if platonic or one sided. That's all i'm saying XD

okay so this is probably just me overanalyzing- actually fuck it, this is probably intentional:

Man in Glass and The Train From Nowhere parallel each other in a way that is almost painful:

So in The Train From Nowhere Nureyev appears out of nowhere and he decides to ask Juno for help on a heist for the greater good, juno voices his obvious distrust and heartbreak the The Murderous Mask to both the audience and Nureyev himself. He openly doubts Nureyev’s planning ability after snapping at him, learns just how intricate the plan is. Also at first they pose as newly weds. Juno tries to shove down his romantic feelings for Nureyev.

Man in Glass?

Juno appears out of nowhere and Nureyev and him are sent on a heist (which we later learn is for the greater good) posing as newlyweds. Nureyev shows spite and betrayal, but tries to suppress it as much as he can, telling himself to “file it away for future consideration” as well as his romantic feelings towards Juno, but instead of vocalizing this distrust and betrayal to Juno, he’s passive-aggressive towards him. Nureyev sees Juno as a “loud mouthed criminal novice” and tries to push him off to the side and try to complete the heist on his own. When Juno is using his very intricate plan, Nureyev’s distrust leads him to not see that it’s a complex plan, until they confront eachother and Juno explains the plan to Nureyev and Nureyev’s just like “oh.” then they work together and successfully steal the map

now what am i getting at? well…

1. one of them appears out of nowhere

2. to the other’s dismay, they go on a heist together for the greater good

3. they pose as newlyweds

4. one has obvious distrust and feels betrayed by the other, but this manifests in different ways, juno vocalizes his distrust to nureyev, and nureyev tries to shove it all away, but shows his distrust through his passive-aggressiveness and not letting Juno help with the plan

5. after one person leaving, the other tries to suppress their romantic feelings towards the other

6. one of them is enacting a very intricate plan which includes manipulating a target

7. the other doesn’t see this plan and sees it as the other being careless, juno believing Nureyev doesn’t care that juno could be killed, Nureyev believing that Juno’s being careless about the heist

8. near the climax of the plot, the two get into an argument about how one believes the other is being careless and not planning well, and in that argument, the other reveals the plan and the first person is embarrassed

9. they work together after this VIA TRUST and get away

10. TRUST IS A HUGE POINT IN BOTH OF THESE STORYLINES I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH

11. Bonus: bickering.

it ALSO shows a key difference between Juno and Peter,

Juno is very blunt about not trusting Nureyev and his own feelings of betrayal towards him, to the audience, in his thoughts, and to Nureyev

Nureyev’s entire thing is suppressing parts of himself to fit into these roles and as a coping mechanism (a shitty one at that) to not distract himself. He shows his feelings of distrust and betrayal via his actions, passive-aggressiveness, and eventually by blowing up. it’s not difficult to tell that Nureyev’s bitterness towards Juno is because of a feeling of betrayal, and a reluctance to let him close again, which he pretty much says outright.

but as i said, they both suppress their romantic feelings towards each other, because in both episodes, the last time they had seen each other, they had shared an intimate moment, then were betrayed, which is why they’re both reluctant to let each other in again, they had just experienced a form of betrayal by the other.

MAN this hurts

Esta and Invierno are abusive to him because of generational trauma from their latino heritage and encourage Oto to bully him and uphold him as the 'sibling they raised right'.Verano had severe self-eestem issues because of this and it was only added on to by being bullied at Hexside for his shyness and obvious hybrid status(see him having non-pointed ears)

He's the same age as Luz and was a trio with Gus and Willow until she came along and made them a quartet.He met his first ever two friends the same day they met eachother when they saw him getting bullied by Boscha and Gus caused a distraction with his illusions so Willow could sneak him away to a hiding spot and Gus hid too to avoid Boscha's wrath.Once school let out,Verano nervously approached them to thank them and hung out with them the next day which turned into every day after that

He's in the healing track/coven and got shit from his family for it because they wanted him to take a 'more useful' one and his palisman is a pink dragon named Fresa

His parents also never truly let him be feminine as a kid and called him an ungrateful brat for asking for things like children's makeup kits and dolls so as part of her redemption arc,Amity teaches him how to be femme and buys him the stuff they refused to and a particularly special item that he's always wearing because it was the first one she bought him is a plain pink choker

His fashion sense is pastel and mostly girly but has some masc hints here and there since he's bigender and it makes him happy with himself.He's short with light brown skin,full lips,a big nose and waist length black hair that's natural thick and curly but he relaxes it and dyes a baby pink streak in it in season 3 as a bonding activity with Willow and Amity until the epilogue where we see he's switched to twists and several streaks and gone from regular pastel to pastel punk

He also has a job making video games since Luz introduced him to them and he learned how to make them as he loved them enough for it to become a special interest

Has a genderfluid pride pin on his dress in Thanks to them

Eda becomes a mother figure to him through his frequent visits to The Owl House to see Luz and adopts him mid-season 1 after finding out he's being abused thanks to him accidentally revealing it during one of their conversations.She went to the Azul house and tricked his parents into giving her custody via adoption papers and easily beat them when they tried to fight her.Oto wasn't around to witness it but is still scared shitless of her and avoids Verano from then on(He does apologize in For the future and Verano says he accepts but dosen't wanna be around him anymore and he respects that).Raine is also his parent due to his and Eda's marriage and there's not a day without both chaos and wholesomeness with them

Considers Camila his official parent too(and she sees him as her son and daughter)and is eternally grateful to her for teaching him about blackness unlike Invierno.Perry,who was never told about Verano's abuse until after Eda came along,did teach him a few things but sadly couldn't get to many because of him still living with his racist parents

And his final parent is Darius.This one has funny reasons because the context is that the two of them got so close thanks to Verano being best friends with Hunter that Darius kept dropping hints to Eda that he wanted shared custody and she teased him into admitting it outright and laughed at his embarrased anger before agreeing to it.Verano was overjoyed when they told him and pulled them into a group hug after giving each of them a platonic cheek kiss,squealing about how much he loves them and what they were going to do as a family

His full name is technically Verano Azul Clawthorne Whispers Noceda Deammone but for the sake of shortness he just uses his first name when introducing himself

When he started unmasking,he turned into a very bubbly and optimistic weirdgirl who slowly became a Team Mom as his friend circle grew.His favorite stims are repeating words and running around,he's good at handling meltdowns,his special interests are dragons cats video games and pink and his safe foods are booding and McDonalds(post/during season 3)

Like the rest of the Hexside Squad,he had an episode dedicated their first meeting with Hunter and his was called 'Little Pink Flying Hood and the Hunter'.It took place post Eclipse Lake but pre Hollow mind and had them bumping forehead first into eachother due to his broom going out of control and getting lost in the forest and trying to find their way back home.They became friends by the end as they bonded deeply,including Verano telling him he dosen't have to be perfect and Hunter responding that they don't need to feel like a freak either.They don't reveal his secret identity in ASIAS but there's a running gag that he thinks they will and at one point they snark that if he keeps at it they'll spill the beans

Verano,Willow,Gus and Hunter are called 'The Four Emeralds' and their group chat that that they created after Darius gave Hunter his phone is titled that and it's extremely chaotic but sweet

His Flapjack tatto is on his right palm

He's Gus and Mat's wingman and finds Mat's cringe to be super cool

ok this has me curious! id love to know when wukong abandons macaque first, cause i personally can't think of the time he does that. (i know tone is hard to come across via text so i want to make it clear im being 100% genuine here).

based on all the time we know wukong left macaque, he always came back to him and his intentions for leaving were to protect macaque and the monkeys on flower fruit mountain. when he left to train with subodhi, he came back after his training. we also never see macaque show any disdain for this or claim that was wukong abandoning him with the action.

then, wukong goes to the celestial realm and works as the stable boy before he gets super drunk and petty and then goes back to flower fruit mountain. macaque never shows any anger over this either, so i don't think that's abandonment.

after, wukong and the brotherhood attack the celestial realm and wukong is captured and put into the furnace and then forced under the mountain. i don't think wukong's capture counts as abandonment, especially since wukong makes it super clear that he does not want to be under that rock.

originally i thought macaque didn't know about wukong's capture like azure and the others, which could be a reasonable conclusion for him to come to; that wukong abandoned him for the celestials, but we know that macaque knows wukong was captured. macaque even visits him under the mountain. that's when macaque severs their ties and leaves wukong trapped.

also yes........ yes..!!! mk & mei are the wukong & macaque narrative parallels.... i love storytelling

its less about "macaque having to bail wukong out and indanger himself over wukong's problems" but more of like, wukong and macaque did the exact same thing, which was attacking the celestial realm. that's why wukong got caught. it's not just macaque, azure, peng, bull king and yellowtusk have some sort of moral responsibility in a way to at least try to help wukong, because all of their combined actions led to wukong taking the punishment for all of them.

i mean, sure, macaque has no reason or responsibility to bail wukong out if you look at it from that scene alone, with the "you dont owe anyone anything" mindset. but considering the other things we know, like how macaque was apart of the attack and supported wukong and fought along side him, there's a bit of a moral obligation to help wukong out since macaque's apart of the reason why wukong was captured.

HAHA lol sorry, that wasnt my intent. i want to make it clear that yeah, wukong wasnt a good person either! but i think the major distinction is that he wasnt a good person, past tense. in the show currently, wukong's a pretty alright guy, and the journey to the west helped him grow into a better person. i jsut feel it isn't necessary to mention wukong's terrible traits from the past because they arent... relevant to him in the current tense. that, along with the fact that the fandom keeps bringing it up, im focused more on mentioning macaque's terrible actions instead of wukong's because macaque is still acting that way while wukong grew as a person hundreds of years before canon. no reason to mention the terrible past of someone who's already made up for it, that kind of thing.

i feel like thats a misinterpretation of season 2 and wukong's actions, because the reason wukong "abandons" mk is to keep mk out of danger. wukong's objective is to find a way to defeat the lady bone demon without having to drag mk into it, because he feels mk isn't ready for that kind of large battle yet. he isn't leaving mk behind to go look for more power for himself, he's leaving mk in a safe place while he goes to deal with the main threat to keep mk from getting involved. he isn't quick enough, but the point still stands.

macaque steps in and even admits in the shadow play episode that he only came by to torture mk for fun ("i was gonna do the whole watch the hero be tormented by their own mistakes thing..." is what he says, which is funny because that's really relevant to wukong's character too haha).

#SWK is making the same mistake he always has. And then MK in s2 is ALSO making that same mistake#And Macaque had to be a loser about it but it is very interesting to see it from his pov.#He steps in when MK is acting that little bit too much like Wukong in all the wrong ways. (2x07 4x09)

so true, too, cause mk's going down that path of self isolation like wukong has already done. mk's trying to spare his friends from his "burdens" (his trauma with lbd in s2 and his trauma from azure lion and the scroll in s4) and by doing so he shuts down and keeps to himself. macaque interprets this as him "abandoning his friends", but that's because macaque's a projector LOL. we already know he does that constantly. i find it interesting too, cause macaque is somehow the most empathetic person in the cast but uses that as a way to drag people down to his level, its rlly fun. i like macaque a lot

i'll be real, i don't think macaque steps in because he genuinely wants to help mk, it's more like he sees mk (season 2 specifically here) as a smaller, weaker wukong that he can actually punch around. he knows if he tried to mess with the real wukong he'd get his ass handed to him, so he goes for the easier target. in season 4, his perspective is different but it still isn't 100% in mk's favor. and also imma be real his advice was butt booty dog water bHKBHADBHKAHAH

side note that im not able to articulate that well because its late but it moderately fits this topic: macaque uses shadow play as partially a way to continue placing doubt in mk's mind about wukong. macaque has a vendetta, and so he thinks everyone else should hate wukong too, no matter how wukong acts now. macaque practically refuses to accept wukong's changed because that would mean macaque would have to self reflect and realize that he isnt all that like he acts like he is. he's very self righteous and tries to put down mk while also placing doubt and manipulating mk into disliking and not trusting wukong. he does this like every chance he gets in season 3, also

so true! lego monkie kid's s1-3 message of the world being fine just the way it is because there's good people in it is what made me fall in love with the series at first. and also how it shows how people live their lives and keep moving despite the hardships of the world is very nice. me like. and yeah! macaque's "look out for number one" mentality is very nice and i like how that fits into his and wukongs characters. its very night and day (HA get it). wukong tries to look out for everyone else while macaque is only interested in looking out for himself. its cool , i like that. especially because it relates back to their original versions in the original story, where macaque represents the dark desires of the mind like his selfishness and spitefulness and wukong kills him as a sign of overcoming those desires and instead choosing the path towards enlightenment and doing good for others and the world.

macaque has a habit of forming full opinions and thoughts on people without properly knowing them and then sticking to those thoughts for the rest of time, not considering their ability to grow and change. mk constantly makes him have to come to terms with the fact that he is wrong and its so awesome. especially because we all know daaamn well that he saw himself in the "mei is my best friend, im not going to leave her when she needs me!" moment. its really good

yeah its super wild. a lot of ppl (esp in this fandom, i havent seen it this bad since like voltron i think and i wasnt even apart of that fandom) believe that to like a villain there has to be some reason why the character is secretly "the good guy" or something, because if they like a straight up bad guy then it means theyre a bad person, when in reality its just relating to the conflicts that those "bad guys" represent and stuff. idk its wild out here i have never seen people jump through so many hoops to justify why they like a villain. they dont have to be secret good people, they can be bad and you can like them because of that. like, one of my fav characters from modern cartoons is emperor belos from the owl house and that guy is like basically pure evil LOL

stranger things the first shadow and jekyll and hyde and carl jung’s concept of the shadow and edward creel is vecna and i can prove it

So! This caught my eye today:

I know there’s a lot of talk regarding how the MF is also called the shadow monster, and I’m sure that plays into it somehow, but I also wanted to talk about Carl Jung’s theory of the shadow. Jung’s theory is basically as follows:

The Personal Shadow

“The personal shadow is comprised of those qualities, impulses, and emotions that we cannot bear for others to see and thus cast into the hidden domain of ourselves. It is made up of the parts of ourselves we deem unacceptable. For many people this means things like our sadness, rage, laziness, and cruelty.”

Keep this above definition in mind.

"The personal shadow personifies everything that the subject refuses to acknowledge about himself and represents ‘a tight passage, a narrow door, whose painful constriction no one is spared.’”

Staring directly at the fact that the art of Henry for The First Shadow parallels the poster of Will looking out a door, at the shadow monster and there’s so much door imagery in ST. Will’s even got his shadow behind him, just like Henry does.

TLDR: a personal shadow is basically everyone’s “bad” qualities but they’re not always inherently bad.

Jekyll and Hyde are considered an example of somebody vs their shadow self/personal shadow.

“If we hold certain values and recognise these consciously then the opposite values may form part of our shadow. The shadow is not just restricted to values but the example of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde illustrates the point well. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde clearly manifested different values and these were translated into differences in their behaviours. Taking this further we can also see that sharing values would lead to a ‘shared’ shadow – the opposite of these values. The group would collectively hold unconscious and opposite values with the potential for projection.” (source)

The Collective Shadow

And so, remember how I said that I think that the Shadow Monster/the MF would play into this? Well, part of the shadow theory is something called a collective shadow.

Long story short, the collective shadow is considered the dark side of humanity, the sum of all past and present atrocities and abuses.

And we know that Henry had a whole speech about the dark side of humanity.

“The collective shadow, like the personal shadow, is relative in that it will be partially culturally determined/dependent on culture. It consists of things which opposes a culture’s conscious, shared and collective values.”

I won’t be surprised if the Shadow Monster/Mindflayer is meant to be representative of a collective shadow, a representation of the shared hateful/biogted beliefs of the people of Hawkins, a representation of all of the atrocities and abuse that’s occurred, including to people like Henry (in the lab and in the Creel house, ESPECIALLY considering the stage play being in 1959/tied to the Creels moving to Hawkins and also tied to the idea of the shadow via the title). But the people of Hawkins aren’t all inherently awful, because the shadow represents the opposite of their values/beliefs, and some peoples’ values/beliefs contradict eachother’s.

The First Shadow

So- the first shadow? It’d possibly be either a.) the first Henry/the original Henry or b.) the first new, separate sort of Henry, possibly a separate consciousness or an entirely separate Henry (staring at the Henry Creel vs Edward Creel weirdness in the Creel murder newspapers, staring at Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde being the full names of Jekyll and Hyde). And keeping in mind that Edward Hyde was Henry Jekyll’s shadow- so then, Edward Creel would be Henry Creel’s shadow. And look at that art for the stage play again:

In this image, who is literally Henry’s shadow?

Vecna.

In the Henry Jekyll vs Edward Hyde and Henry Creel vs Edward Creel section, who was Henry Jekyll’s shadow?

Edward Hyde.

Which makes Edward Creel the shadow of Henry Creel. But Vecna is also Henry’s literal shadow in that image- oh wait, that makes both Vecna and Edward Henry’s shadow. Don’t people just have one personal shadow, though?

Yes. Because Vecna and Edward Creel are the same person. Henry Creel is not Vecna, Edward Creel is. Vecna and Edward are interchangeable, and they’re both Henry’s shadow, just like how Edward Hyde is the shadow of Henry Jekyll.

Edward is Vecna, not Henry. Even simply in a metaphorical sense, Henry is not the same as Vecna, Vecna is Henry’s shadow.

Conclusion

We’ve got the personal shadow, the collective shadow, and the first shadow.

And the personal shadow is considered the bridge to the collective shadow, in the sense that the collective shadow is made up of humanity’s personal shadows.

So, Henry’s shadow was likely the first one, the first shadow in that collective shadow- and what does the collective shadow represent? What is it comprised of? The atrocities and abuses of humanity and the values deemed negative by a culture. So, Henry himself being an outcast and being deemed negative as a child, and abused by the town and by the lab, and becoming the first atrocity in the collective shadow over Hawkins, the first personal shadow in that collective shadow.

Everything with the shadow sounds so extremely Vecna, with how he’s showing his S4 victims their own shadows, the parts of themselves that they refuse to acknowledge, the parts of themselves that conflict with their egos and ideals.

To confront one’s shadow is considered to be confronting the truth- and Jamie himself said that Vecna is fixated on truth.

And again, the collective shadow is made up of personal shadows. So, if you want to resolve the collective shadow/kill the shadow monsters, you need to resolve everyone’s personal shadows first.

Which is what Vecna was doing. He was literally forcing his victims to confront their personal shadows. He is attempting to kill and change the collective shadow of Hawkins because of how that shadow/those cultural beliefs have outcast and hurt him. But because he’s doing it by committing atrocities, he’s simply creating a new collective shadow/shifting those values/being a hypocrite. He think he’s destroying those hateful/harmful values, but instead, he’s just making his own twisted/still harmful version of them. I’ve talked repeatedly and constantly about characters like Vecna and Eddie being hypocrites and how for all of things Henry lists in his “eat sleep wake up,” monologue, he himself has his own twisted version of things, and this ties in perfectly with the collective shadow theory and the idea that Vecna is trying to destroy the collective shadow/bigotry/hate/abuse of Hawkins but is enforcing his own bigotry/hate/abuse in the process.

And going back to Henry not being Vecna, remember how the personal shadow is defined?

“It is made up of the parts of ourselves we deem unacceptable. For many people this means things like our sadness, rage, laziness, and cruelty.”

And so, if Vecna is Henry’s shadow (which, that’s exactly what we see on the poster), then that means that Vecna is comprised of things/traits that Henry deems unacceptable. Meaning that Henry didn’t share the same values as Vecna/Edward. Meaning that Henry is a good guy. Which, that doesn’t mean Edward is evil, especially not with the idea of Vecna being the result of Brenner merging himself with Edward, and Vecna and *Edward’s* values being different.

It’s also worth noting that Henry himself is very paralleled to Mairon (Sauron’s form before he became evil), and Annatar (his fake good form), but Vecna is the one paralleled to Sauron. Sauron, who poured his cruelty and his malice into the one ring. Sauron, who is described frequently as a shadow.

TLDR: timeline weirdness and Henry Creel vs Edward Creel and Edward is Vecna, Henry is not Vecna, and Henry is not responsible for Vecna’s actions.

OC Ask Game - Relationships Edition! Silvie/Tech

Questions 1-6.

1. What were their first impressions of one another?

For context, their first meeting is when Silvie hires the Bad Batch (via Cid) to help her infiltrate a droid infested space mansion to steal back her starship.

Silvie’s first impression of Tech (and the Bad Batch overall) is slight disappointment. She was promised a group of elite clone mercenaries, but they don’t look at all like clone troopers at first glance. She briefly wonders if Cid has scammed her, but keeps those thoughts privately to herself.

Tech’s first impression of Silvie is slight puzzlement. She’s a well-dressed girl in a dingy bar on a mid-rim planet, and that makes her appear kind of out of place here, in his opinion. He finds it intriguing to guess what her business is here at Cid’s place, but overall he maintains a facade of professionalism.

2 .What was their first date like? If they haven’t been on a date yet, how would it go?

I haven’t decided if they will get that far into the relationship yet (😬). But I think they’d be the kind of couple who likes to explore new things and places together.

For their first date, they might do something simple and traditional like going to the ice-cream parlour. Then, perhaps there would be a comment about discontent (maybe the texture could’ve been better, maybe the taste wasn’t authentic). Then, the discussion would go out of hand and now they’re making an outline to the procedure of how to make the best ice-cream to their taste. And then the date (now more like a crude laboratory experiment) would probably end late into the night with them executing their plans, tasting their delicious (or horrific) treats and then being tuckered out by everything and falling asleep together.

3. It’s late at night and your characters want food, what do they order/find in the fridge?

An old GAR-issued protein bar. No preparation needed, easy to eat, and absolutely tasteless. …their taste buds are wired a bit differently.

4. What’s a typical Sunday like for them?

Parallel play with each working on their individual projects.

5. What’s their love language like? Are they compatible with one another?

Silvie’s primary love language is quality time. She usually prefers doing things alone, so if she’s willingly choosing to spend time with someone, it’s a sign of adoration.

For Tech, I think his primary love language would be acts of service. We know from the show that he’d do anything to keep his loved ones safe(🥲).

I think they both could have gift giving as the secondary love language, but the types of gifts would be different. Silvie takes home shiny little trinkets from her scavenging adventures, or brings food for her loved ones. Tech’s gift are handmade and is carefully calibrated to improve the quality of life of his loved ones.

Are they compatible? And how? Honestly, I’m not sure yet 😅

I think Silvie wouldn’t enjoy being called by a pet name. She had a partner she truly loved who would use all affectionate endearments on Silvie, and I think Silvie would be reminded of her passing and feel too much sorrow if she was called e.g., love, dear, darling etc.

Not a pet name, but Silvie used different nicknames to refer to Tech when they weren’t very close yet, as a way to tease and get a reaction from him. Doc, captain, genius, etc. stuff that imply high competency. He doesn’t acknowledge it, but he doesn’t complain either.

But really, as they get closer they just refer to each other’s given name. I don’t know why, but I feel it’s way more intimate that way 😅

Going insane because the big fucking lumax elmax parallel elumaxers love to say means romantic elmax [which I hope it does] may very well mean platonic lumax instead?? Or even something else?????

I love platonic and romantic lumax equally, but I truly thought we were getting more romantic lumax next season so I'm VERY confused.

BASICALLY in Stranger Things One, El leans over Will, who is lying down half-dead and dying on the Upside-Down Castle Byers.

This scene establishes The Lean TM as I will henceforth refer to it.

El is saving him for lots of complicated reasons. She believes that she will be "replaced" afterwards. She wants to make her friends happy. She may believe in a consequence otherwise. And because she of course wants Will to stay alive. Her life so far has sucked ass.

Stranger Things Two rolls around. El is looking for Kali. Basically she is attaching herself like a friendly, adorable leech to anything remotely familiar. She wants FAMILY and STABILITY rn. So she goes to her sister, Kali. In this case, Kali is the one conjuring hallucinations. Spider (negative) followed by butterfly (positive) [both have other meanings too but Not The Point]

El says "are you real?". She isn't sure such a thing as a sister who won't betray her could happen in this life!

Stranger Things four!!

Max reaches out to El saying "are you real? Did I make you?" Adding the second questing as El is already known to her/she remembers El.

Even pinches her cheek!

This follows several hallucinations caused by Vecna, all bad (one involving Lucas, but Idk if that's relevant yet.)

Max has thus far believed that nothing as good as what she already believes El to be possible anymore, nor that she deserves it.

She definitely believes in Vecna causing yk Bad Shit if the El is fake.

The infamous The Lean TM 2.0!!!

Max is all the way fuckin dead. As a doorknob.

Lucas cradles Max, but the FRAMING puts him in the EXACT position as EL is with psychic image of Max, visually.

LEANING.

THEN El resuscitates Max via telekinetic chest compressions fueled by Happy Memory Positive Vibes Energy. She knows Max, *and* she has had a good life for some of it atp.

ANYWAYS. Onto some POTENTIAL meanings!

The Lean TM is not inherently romantic OR platonic. El did not even KNOW Will and did not feel anything PERSONALLY about him when she Leaned in ST1.

She EVENTUALLY got to know Will- AFTER The Lean TM. THEN their relationship is platonic.

But initially- sheer desperation. WHO Will was had nothing to do with it. The outside forces, that being (oversimplified) El's desire to SAVE Will. Not any feelings she had towards him.

This then changes for The Lean TM 2.0! El and Lucas KNOW Max! BUT assuming this is about OUTSIDE feelings- desperation had RUN the FUCK OUT- replaced by SHEER FUCKING SHOCK AND TERROR because A) Max is literally DEAD right now and B) fuckin Vecna and the apocalypse

THIS information gives us a few potential meanings:

The Lean TM represents outside feelings. It is a contrast between the relatively more hopeful eyes of a twelve year old, be she alone, than the jaded girl two years later. But she's got friends now. And also The World's Problems still exist. (Dead children equals world problems, alone v w/ friends obvi, and hopeful but desperate v already dead.) Supposed resurrection represents that it is never too late.

The Lean TM represents that those involved will have their relationship to eachother, or their impression of the other, changed in the future. Even THIS could mean a hundred things in its own!!

Siblings-ass pair did it first, another elmax siblings thing, does that make lumax paralleled to siblings??? I am HESITANT AS SHIT about this one because the point of parallels indicating interpersonal relationships is the characters' feelings- and in The Lean TM 1.0, you could hardly call willel "siblings" PLUS it would be weird to make lumax be like a siblings pair atp imo.

In any case, it kind of seems difficult to make this about romo lumax *alone*

NOW onto "are you real?"

This is Max saying something that parallels an earlier quote by El.

The funny thing is, Max in Stranger Things Four is actually more similar to Stranger Things FOUR El than to Stranger Things Two El. They both have feelings of guilt right now, and have trouble convincing themselves that they "deserve" friends and family, or for anything good to happen to them.

In Stranger Things Two, El is ACTIVELY SEARCHING for this family rather than avoiding it (though ST4 Max moves into this direction as well, the former is more connected to the nature of Max's Vecna Visions)

It's also totally different from the nature of their relationships, let alone the types!

El at the point of quote one ONCE AGAIN doesn't know Kali at ALL. By the time Max sees El, she is already familiar enough with El to believe that she could conjure her from memory!

Constancy???Hope?????Trust??? El2 was not in any type of immediate danger, unlike Max4.

On the one hand, the LEAN the GODDAMN LEAN makes it seem like it's probably elumax(if it's romo lumax it's probably both, and otherwise there may be a familial implication, but the meaning of that has become more Literal as of late so probably the first things) but then what the absolute FUCK is going on with the other thing?? Thoughts on osmp x dsmp crossovers? Do you have any way you think they’re “done right”?

So! I think they can work, really well and really simply and there's tons of ways they can work.

I'm gonna start on the negative thoughts tho so I can end positive.

I don't like thinking of OSMP as an alternate universe or some parallel dimension. osmp!Wilbur ≠ dsmp!Wilbur, and that goes with all characters. Not only do the characters who share the same content creator actors just Not Act Similar, but they're literally different people living different lives, and there are people who are present in one world, while not on the other.

OSMP and DSMP aren't like Empires SMP or Hermitcraft or whatever where season to season or series to series characters played by some of the same people are the same characters. To our knowledge OSMP and DSMP are entirely separate in every way.

So, naturally I hate aus where it's just "this is alternate reality tommy who is happier", it's not an alternate reality. They're not the same person.

One is a kid who has a loving dad and is learning how to fly and who does training courses with his brother and best friends and who opened up a pet sanctuary. The other is a traumatized child war veteran who's died a handful of times and can't even trust the people he's closest to. They're just not the same character.

Once again by extension I also hate crossovers or aus where OSMP is just a dream or some afterlife or better life for DSMP characters. Like- Ghostbur passing on and becoming Phantombur and OSMP is his afterlife or Tommy dreams of a world where he's happy at night and it's all gone, because it entirely discredits OSMP as its own server entirely separate from the DSMP and it's just, not fun for me.

Now, there are plenty of good ways to make a crossover though, but the base of it is you have to treat OSMP and DSMP as actual separate things, and their characters as different people. I personally love tying OSMP and DSMP together via the character of Walter Crondale. If you don't remember, Walter is a radio talkshow host in a 1940's esk style who reports on local news of the OSMP server, and of the DSMP server. He reported on turtle eggs hatching on OSMP and he reported November 16th on DSMP. So, you have an interdimensional or interserver traveling character, which means other characters could possibly do that too.

Plus on both servers, servers outside of their own exist. Hypixel for example exists for both. If you think as all servers as worlds or planets that you can travel to and from, I think it's the easiest (sometimes I picture it like the videogame hub/power strip in Wreck it Ralph if that visual is better).

I think overall a cross over is done right by treating the servers as their own stories with their own characters seperate from each other, then allowing them to interact.

For example, I like the idea of Phantombur and L'manbur having known eachother way before the early L'manberg days of the DSMP. I like to think they'd be pub buddies, and they had fun singing and adventuring, and Phantombur taught L'manbur the basics of brewing. Eventually they go their separate ways, and L'manbur uses what Phantombur taught him when he started L'manberg. Phantombur occasionally writes him letters, and maybe one day they meet again, with friends this time.
