i don’t i’m afraid!! it’s just his enormous mess of a tag as the lore built up... i might make something sometime??? i hadnt thought abt it tbh. in the meantime feel free to ask me any and all questions even if it’s something i’ve probably already said, i love going over this stuff and will do so forever if even slightly prompted. on that note, if it helps, here is a briefly condensed version:

keir is a red personality (aggressive/direct) non-mage hawke. i did his full playthrough as a warrior, i sometimes talk about switching him to rogue, but the only really important thing is that he’s a reaver and will bite you for real

he’s a man of few words, extremely blunt and threatening to the point of being absurdly over-the-top with pretty much all strangers, and much softer but still bluntly earnest with the small group of people he considers his own. he considers himself first and foremost a protector and would do anything to keep those people safe. his father malcolm was a strict man who raised him to do this and he accepted that wholeheartedly. consider him a guard dog. killed his first templar in defence of the family aged 15

he adores and idolises magic and fiercely supports mage freedom, though ultimately he would absolutely sacrifice a wider “cause” if doing so would keep his mages safe. fortunately or unfortunately, he can’t do that because the two are inextricable

he’s a proud fereldan and cares very little for kirkwall (hates kirkwall. hates kirkwall. someone please get him out of here) and its nobility, which tends to show in his appearance and behaviour. long braided hair, the streak across his nose is kaddis, and takes his mabari, silla, absolutely everywhere

he’s elf-blooded via his father, who was the bastard son of a fereldan elven servant girl and an orlesian chevalier who was with the occupation

his playthrough has circle mage bethany. he adores her and he would do anything for her but her acceptance of her fate and disillusionment with his overprotectiveness meant they had an increasingly strained relationship. it was because she was trapped that he couldn’t leave the city. once he was champion, meredith essentially had a knife to his sister’s throat whenever she wanted his compliance, not to mention the looming threat to anders and merrill, making those three years the worst and most terrifying in his life

he romances anders! friendmance and they escape kirkwall together in the end. not always easy but he really loves him, justice half included. there’s a lot of lore here ummm if i mention the “and they were housemates” timeline, that’s my silly mutual pining alternate version of events where anders moves into the amell estate for safekeeping before he and keir actually get together. if i mention aura hawke, that’s the potential daughter i occasionally hc for them

he had previous relationships with morrigan (in lothering as young 20-somethings) and merrill (during act 1). you cannot keep him away from those romanceable mages

he’s still close friends with merrill. isabela is his best friend. he has a complicated, semi-antagonistic friendship with varric, who was really closer with anders but now after the fact doesn’t want to remember that. he deeply respects and is friends with fenris. he did rivalry with sebastian, but in an agree-to-disagree way where they considered each other friends nonetheless until All That happened. he had a more genuine rivalry with aveline though still coloured by their trauma bonding

i THINK those are the main beats of his lore but he’s my most discussed and developed dragon age character so i’m sure i’ve missed some of the assorted junkyard of thoughts

you can definitely see it in game without paying! they have scenes during the main story quest and alhaitham’s story quest which is unlocked by doing daily commissions :) genshin is actually pretty good about not paywalling actual story content.

alhaitham is introduced as a main character of the sumeru archon quest. he’s basically the secretary for the akademiya, the university that doubles as the governing body of sumeru, and he stumbles upon the government conspiracy in his work. he is a genius and deeply rational, and he has a straightforward way of speaking that makes his colleagues think him arrogant and rude. he continually states that he bears no ill will towards his colleagues, he just doesn’t care what other people think of him and he prefers to be alone, he becomes involved in stopping the conspiracy supposedly only because he has everything in his life exactly as he likes it and the conspiracy interrupts his 9 to 5. all in all, he reads as autistic and he has huge biceps, so i loved him instantly.

surprise and elation when my friend told me that alhaitham had a broke roommate who does amateur stage magic.

kaveh appears only briefly at the end of the archon quest and then for a slightly longer scene at the end of alhaitham’s story quest. most of what we know about him is what other characters have said and alhaitham’s lore.

kaveh is an architect and a genius equal to alhaitham, though otherwise his opposite. he’s emotional, expressive and empathetic, as well as fairly popular with his colleagues. however, he went deeply into debt working on his magnum opus, the palace of alcazarzaray, and was left homeless. he and alhaitham had known each other in school, and hearing of his issues, alhaitham offered him a place to stay, even though they argue incessantly.

before the most recent update, that’s as much as we knew about them, and there was a lot of speculation about their dynamic and history. the update established that they were friends in college, but after working on a joint research project, they had a falling out. the project itself was massively successful, and they were given joint ownership of the house as part of their payment from the akademiya. alhaitham moved in immediately, but kaveh sent a letter much later that he was forfeiting his ownership of the house. it was another few years before kaveh became homeless and alhaitham invited him to move in.

so this is where i diverge into my Thoughts and Opinions. it seems to me that kaveh is still very unsure what his relationship to alhaitham should be. they hadn’t spoken since their falling out, but alhaitham offered him a place to live. they spend a lot of time together, but they argue a lot. when asked if he’s alhaitham’s friend, he waffles, unsure of what to say. alhaitham’s perspective on their relationship is clear to him and is stated in his lore: he thinks of kaveh as his perfect mirror. kaveh is someone who can offer him different perspective and challenge him to improve and refine his worldview. he is perhaps the only person in the world alhaitham would willingly spend time with.

all this to say, i think kaveh is like “oh no i can’t let alhaitham know i have a crush on him or it will muddle our already unclear relationship and he could kick me out and i could be homeless again” and alhaitham met kaveh when they were teenagers and was like “yea he’s the one.”

tributes - the! hunger! games! fic!!!! iconic legendary spectacular THEE revolutionary turnaround for the merlin fanfiction game and for the horrors generally. do NOT go in overhyped tho me and beth went in like haha what a cool weird au and then it caught us off-guard that it wasn't written terribly. also good for something longer and about much more than just merlin and arthur. it's fr like watching the show again for better and for worse. it's got camp whimsy it's got our main duo acting like complete freaks it's got this constant suffocating sense of inevitable tragedy... slayed!

history books forgot about us and in dreams - by the hunger games writer so u know it's actually written well!! don't read their other stuff tho just trust me. my memory of the first one isn't great but i remember feeling with both that finally FINALLY someone Got the finale like me + beth did. short but just rlly solid satisfying follow-ups to the show.

first off, to crush a Hoover Dam of turtle show lore like a beer can, Raphael's characterization in his various incarnations is often... lacking. and when i was a kid i used to turn off the TV 'cause he annoyed me. but now! he's my favorite guy!

love how they changed his theme of "being impulsive and hotheaded makes you mean" to (riffing a bit here) "makes it easier to visibly care abt ppl, and for others to listen to you, but everything falls short after that". which is why he's bad at plans, and any strong fear for his bros can come out pretty explosively!

'Plans?' i hear you say, 'why is THAT his team contribution?' because, well, a basic turtle-show-lore scope tells you that Leonardo is the leader, right? blue bandana, duel swords, yada yada cultural phenomenon. but NOPE not in rise! actually i think it's the only incarnation where this is the case? and it was a brilliant bit of planning ;> theres a netflix movie that released August 5th this year btw ;>

but my absolute uncontested fav fav fav divergence is THEYRE ALL DIFFERENT SPECIES OF TURTLE! and it goes SO HARD for the quirks of their xenobiology to be giving in so handily to their visible aptitudes!!

Donatello's mechanical 'battle shell' is worn constantly to make up for his lil' spiny softieshell back- Michelangelo can do this Box Turtle thing where he pops all his limbs into his shell, and it seems only fitting against his youngest status (13, 14 don 14.1 leo, 15 raph), his overemotionality, and general 'razzmatazz'- Raph's alligator snapping turtle build (spiked shell! big boy!) making him an absolute tank AND a bulldozer, and leo

plus! the resultant designs creates an immediate and pleasing distinction between them for viewers, which was one of the things i historically (read: as a 10 yr old) disliked about 2012-2017 TMNT. the animation, by the way? Cool As Shit! i willingly watch the rise intro before each ep, sometimes slowing its speed just to absorb it better. practically every time i do, there's something i never noticed!

the style of Battle scenes in particular has left me feeling winded with just how creatively the animators can manipulate the medium. (i've seen fight storyboards from the movie, and they mericlessly squish me like a bug, so hell knows what'll happen when i see the full thing...) and about the villains, i haven't been disinterested by a single one yet! they're endearingly gimmicky but eccentric, and bombastic but p enjoyable

LAWLLL wont go into details since its a lot of explaining and lore but i got dumped there w the only weapon being a stick bcs those mfs loathed my ass bye ANYWAYS satoru found me , all messed up , and got me outta there & took me straight to shoko to get fixed up bcs i looked v BAD (as in wounds & stuff) && HE WAS SOWW WORRIED THE WHOLE TIMEEEE, muttering stuff like ‘please be all right,’ WHILE PACING AROUND THE ROOM BACK N FORTH 😋😋 anyways thas how we met and also how i got taken in by the school since i had no one lookin after me blahblahblah (insert more selfship lore) and satoru was kinda like my guardian during that time !! :3 he helped me find my way through the school, took me out to the city to explore, stuck up 4 me when i needed it, dragged me everywhere w him, let me train w him—yk just being super caring & also trying to light up my mood every time . especially when he sensed i wasnt feeling well. thas how he got me to warm up to him (rare occurrence) lol but the last thing is completely me irl … my rbf is so bad smh , ppl r always tellin me that i look mad or think m giving them looks 🙅🏽‍♀️🙅🏽‍♀️ also ion like talking to ppl much & prefer to stay in my own bubble but if i had someone like satoru (literally the complete opposite of me) id def wouldn’t mind becoming a extrovert heheeee anyhow yes eventually ended up friends to lovers :D !! sorry this turned so long bye mind u this is the shortest i could keep my rambling at oooops

UHHHMM well . LMAO i feel like im the one that starts almost all arguments w him t_t but most arguments get solved p easily since we r both adults and act like adults & talk things out like adults ! satoru’s always patient & never yells & asks me for my part of the story before he continues so we both understand each others feelings . but theres this one time i was fed up and stressed out, to the point i wasn’t trying to listen to anything he had to say. i was staying over at his apartment, he was being clingy whilst i told him that i wasn’t in the mood at the moment (was working on a project i desperately needed to get done for the night) . satoru gives me my space, but then comes back around every half an hour or 15 minutes, asking me to take a break since i was like overworking myself and taking no tjme to rest. but yk when you’re determined to do smth, theres no stopping u (like when u r in that hyper focused state). so at one point i literally snapped and raised my voice, asking him to f off and leave me be, called him annoying (😞😞) and outed all my frustrations in a fit of rage . i felt so BADDDDD right afterwards but couldn’t bring myself to apologise since i also partially felt like i needed to be left alone at the moment.

satoru was stunned and just.. nodded and said smth among the lines of ‘okay, all right. i understand. i’m sorry for bothering you, baby. however, please take a break.’ like that man didn’t even argue back, just stayed calm & collected before leaving me be without refuting anything bad i said abt him. okay so i finished my project peacefully that night (abt 5 am when i finished) . i went to his bedroom, ready to sleep, only to not find him there. THIS MAN WAS SLEEPING ON THE COUCH . IN HIS OWN HOUSE HELLO i didnt even tell him to, but okay, 😖 i went back to the living room to apologise and tell him to sleep on the comfy bed instead of on the couch with a measly blanket he found somewhere (which didnt even cover his entire 6’4 body)., he didn’t answer me so i turned him over to look at me and ……. this man. had cried himself to SLEEEEEP 🚶🏽‍♀️ he was already sleepin & the skin surrounding his eyes was red , cheeks stained w tears i was so mad @ myself actually. DAAASHDJSN he didnt show his hurt to me bcs he knew it would only distract me more from the work i had to, therefore he let me be & dealt with his own feelings alone. YALLLL this makes me sob every time

Yea! I was planning to make a post for Sclaw and Octa, so you’ll have to wait for those lol, BUT I can do the last 4!!! srry this took me a bit !!!

Note: I am currently an EN-only, so my knowledge of the following characters is very limited and derived mostly from others’ interpretations of them. And they're very short bc, again, I know nothing abt them!

Kalim thinks Yuu and Grim are cool! He treats Yuu and Grim as separate people, but in the way parents will ask a child if their imaginary friend wants a cookie, too. When he finds out they really are separate people, well! He does rectify his behavior. Kalim's just very nice and bubbly so Yuu and Grim like him lots! He headpats both of them, no matter who's in control. Grim likes headpats the most.

Jamil doesn't care. He thinks "Grim" is just an annoying persona/act Yuu does. Of course when he finds out they are two souls in one body, he'll try to act kinder, but he's still heavily exasperated and annoyed when it's Grim in control of the body. He doesn't know it, but that change in personality/approach to them depending who's in charge makes Yuu and Grim feel good! Well, as good as being called annoying can be, in Grim's case wwww

Pomefiore

Vil thinks Yuu-Grim's two different eyes is strange (appearance lore drop!!). He thinks it poses an interesting challenge to coordinate an outfit around the different eyes. On Yuu and Grim's changes in control, he finds it annoying, but since it's mostly Yuu in control, Vil couldn't care less. Vil invites Yuu-Grim to his dorm a couple times to dress them up. Surprisingly, he prefers it when Grim is in control over Yuu bc Yuu fidgets too much. These makeover sessions don't dwindle after Vil is told of them being two separate people; Vil starts to take each of their preferences to mind when Yuu or Grim is talking about clothes.

Rook thinks Yuu-Grim are fascinating! They appeal to his hunter habits. It's like a 2-in-1 type of deal. He originally calls them both "Trickster" because he thinks it's just Yuu, but after learning the different souls thing, he sticks to calling just Yuu "Trickster" and Grim is "Frère de la Trickster" (Trickster's brother [brother of the Trickster if tl'd seriously], but my French is rusty and I can't rmbr if "de la" is supposed to have an accent in it somewhere).

Epel thinks Yuu-Grim are cool but weird. Mostly because of how willing they are to comply with Vil's dressing-up wishes. He admires how fast the personality change is when faced with danger, but that's just Grim taking charge. When he learns that fact, he thinks Yuu-Grim are even cooler! And strong. You have to be strong to be able to host 2 souls in one body, right?

Ignihyde

Idia thinks Yuu-Grim are like an evil/dark side trope in characters who seem meek. He's surprised he's right when he finds out. Still tries to keep his distance far from them (and everyone else), but especially so if he thinks it's Grim in control of the body. However, he does want to know why Yuu-Grim are the way they are...Also gives them multiple bracelets that evolve as he gifts them thru Ortho. Color change, updated mechanics, updated design; you name it, Idia's done it! Its main purpose of displaying who is in control is still there.

Ortho thinks they're interesting! When it's Yuu in control, their breathing is shallow and their aura reads "Caution!" all over; when it's Grim in control, his breathing is stronger and he takes deeper breaths and he walks with his shoulders squared. Malleus was very surprised when he first sees this odd Child of Man. Actually, he thought Yuu-Grim were fae-adjacent due to their mismatched eyes, but no. Not quite. He can sense they’re not entirely human, but he chalks it up to their magic being something he's unfamiliar with. After finding out they’re different souls, Malleus is like “Ah that explains why you’re not 100% human.” He does his best to accommodate calling his Child (Children?) of Man (Monster? Man-ster?) by their names. The bracelet helps.

Lilia doesn't think too much about Yuu-Grim. He's civil, they're civil, so it's all good! He of course accommodates and keeps an eye on the bracelet to properly address whoever it is he's talking to! He likes to tease the two, especially if Grim's in control. Yuu has taken to pushing up front to control the body if Lilia's coming and Grim's walking the body.

[Silver and Sebek are the characters I know possibly the least about. I don't actively search out content for them due to wanting to avoid spoilers and fandom tends to one-note them as "sleepy" and "loud everyone-but-fae hater". That being said, I think both would learn to treat Yuu and Grim as separate people!]

(i dont care to do c! tags bc theres. so many characters. if i dont say cc! then im talking abt the characters) normally i am not one to think much about the syndicate bc outside of ranboo being there to protect tubbo the syndicate Frustrates me a bit but. if phil starts to realize just how fucked over tubbo got by schlatt being erased from the narrative (and especially how shittily techno has treated tubbo) then i really hope they lean into like. the fact that the syndicate may soon turn into phil, niki, ranboo, and possibly the mystery member (im including mystery member mostly because i think tubbo is on good terms with almost everyone except like. dream, possibly wilbur but we'll see, and like the eggpire ppl but none of them are likely options but it is possible that the mystery member could just be neutral) all like. wanting tubbo to be safe and phil is *just* reasonable enough that i think he'd realize how unfair it is for tubbo to have been subjected to so much shit just for techno to introduce even more fear and the need to hide in his life

like phil already keeps the bee duo marriage and michael a secret, he lets tubbo come over and while of course its mostly from the semi lore vibes phil seems vaguely fond of tubbo already (i dont think phil and tubbo have father/son vibes tho, more just like. tubbo is just That Kid that adults cant help but adore even though the kid will rob them of house and home. slightly amused elder watching a tiny fucking gremlin make sex jokes and talk about soviet russia), niki from what i remember still cares about tubbo (probably because she cant redirect any anger towards him without realizing how unjustified it would be kcnsks she can come up with excuses for hating tommy but tubbo didnt do anything that niki has a problem with outside of her maybe having a bad view on butcher army if she knows about it?), ranboo is. ranboo. i dont need to clarify. and then like said theres a very low possibility of the fifth member *disliking* tubbo or being unable to sympathize with him.

people talk a lot about how techno needs to lose in a way that he cant easily come back from without introspection and i think while the rest of the syndicate standing up for tubbo would increase technos grudge against tubbo initially its also like. something that i think would maybe force techno to see tubbo as a person because now theres nothing techno can box (haha gettit. tubbox tubbo in a box tubbo getting boxed into certain roles by people who refuse to let him out techno esp doin this teehoo) tubbo into that wouldnt just. acknowledge that tubbo is a person. hes not apart of the government anymore, not planning any failed revolution, the most negative title to his name is being one of the nuke makers but even then thats out of fear and safety and techno knows that. otherwise tubbos current crimes are nothing thats special to tubbo (like. stealing and searching for evidence in ppls homes and stuff, the latter of which techno doesnr even know about). right now tubbos a husband, a father, a friend, a kid, *ex*-government, a person. and just.

i think that with how much foreshadowing about tubbos execution no longer being a secret amongst the witnesses and tubbo himself and soon being something that people close to techno like phil and ranboo know about as well (in that i want phil to learn that techno did it and for ranboo to learn about it in general bc hes just biased enough for tubbo and just smart enough that i think even if somehow he wasnt told who did it he could figure it out), and with the fact that tubbos lore has been confirmed to now be something thats actively going to be played into? i think (or at least hope) that it might spur phil and techno into finally seeing tubbos side of the story (and probably also get into the possibility of tubbo opening up to tommy and ranboo but i do think realistically either tubbo will try to play it off/not truly open up about how much its effected him or tubbo will at first shut down or go into complete repression mode, especially if phil and ranboo get the story from other people rather than tubbo himself [but god do i hope they confront tubbo himself]. either those two or tubbo talks about his emotions through fucking snapping at something/someone like he did at quackity when reminded of his execution, which as long as its Not tommy or ranboo ill absolutely be cheering on him for)

breaking down killer and healer's "achilles come down" gifset

i just want to talk abt this [x]. if u haven't heard the song, please do now. maybe as u read this.

why did i make this gifset? no reason. i was looking up the french sample of achilles come down on the internet and when i read the lore that inspired the songwriter, lying beneath each word and punctuation, i immediately thought, "this is it. this is killer and healer."

so i just did it while listening to the song as i picked the raw materials. the french sample is an excerpt from camus' book "the myth of sisyphus" that i havent got the chance to read.

i intended to use the scene where chen yuzhi sat in the rain and yu tangchun blasted himself in junbai's ammo warehouse to represent this line but i realized it wouldn't align and make a great contradiction with the scene for the next line.

i reread the line and felt like, this sentence holds much more despair than just a fit of rage and vengeance. it represents achilles' helplessness after patroclus' death and his war against hector that had become meaningless. for after that, he still had lost someone who became the meaning of his existence.

and i thought of zhan junbai whose burning power had to smother because of yu tangchun's death, aside from his failed dynasty and being stripped off of his wealth. even if he succeeded in building his empire, what could the big city give him? what could a bigger mansion do to mend his broken childhood? what could his power do to fill his emptiness? his heart yearns for love, to be taken care of and nurtured, to regain the childhood that's never been fully his, to feel a mother's arms again, but he didn't know how to admit these.

and it led him to the consequence of his stone heart. an unworthy life with nothing but the cold winter wind and pathetic death that noone grieved for. even the one he considered as the love of his life didn't want to meet him in the afterlife, or the next life.

zhan junbai had lost yu tangchun but he knew yu tangchun lost nothing. so he held tangchun's prayer beads, the only thing he could hold on to for a while to relieve his fear of death but couldn't be taken to the other side of the great divide, and ended the miserable life he didn't choose. the beads falling was a sign that nothing from tangchun would be spared for him to be possessed.

on the other side, there was jiang yuelou who was "killed" there too, after witnessing chen yuzhi's life force withered, taken forcibly by his archenemy, not by a peaceful slumber. and his archenemy claimed victory on that, saying that jiang yuelou lost too. zhan junbai killed jiang yuelou's dream and ideas of living together with chen yuzhi in the countryside. he killed the core of yuelou's existence, someone who had helped him become human.

for zhan junbai had failed to metamorphose into a better person and it cost him the reason for his existence. he wanted to drag yuelou with him too, he wanted yuelou to lose the sense of life that allowed him to dream of the sunset in a quiet countryside.

alas, he didn't know about keying. yuelou survived the grief thanks to her but deep inside he was already dead at that time. he couldn't let himself dream again. his city was saved and his people were no longer haunted by opium but his sleep would only be visited by nightmares. like zhan junbai, he too was a shell without gunpowder. his existence made less sense without chen yuzhi but at least, chen keying filled half of it.

notice how i faded all colors behind yuelou and junbai except red shades? yes, i want it to look like their worlds dreaded the moment yuzhi and tangchun passed away. junbai had more prominent red in the gif, symbolizing the blood rain from the people he had killed and sacrificed for power also his strength, ambition, and malicious intention. while yuelou had a more brown-ish shade to signify the dream that'd been crushed so he had to come back to earth and live his life as it is. also a representation of his resilience, strength, and loneliness.

different from junbai and yuelou, i made yuzhi and tangchun's more colorful and flat. they were the good memories that brought colors to junbai and yuelou's lives. their existence rounded both the two men's sharp edges respectively. even though tangchun is not entirely sincere with the gentle touch but his sole presence already evokes a junbai that the executive himself doesn't know exist. alas, he just doesn't know how to embrace that other side of him who wants care and affection.

i intended to keep the colors because both settings explain what kind of story follows after each of them. both yuzhi and tangchun are under the sunlight, probably symbolizing hope and light to yuelou and junbai. but if you look closer, in tangchun's setting, it is raining while in yuzhi's, it is pretty clear skied. in some culture, rain that pours from a clear sky is named as "the rain of dead people", "fox rain", etc. dont ask me the origin i wont bother to go to the archive's building. accidental or not, it's really tangchun's part of the story. the rain can also sign their stormy relationship. as for yuzhi, it's too much of a clear sky and sunlight, like a day when everything is too good to be true and you should beware instead.

also, notice how the red and brown are kinda mixing so none of them are too prominent? and added with the reduced blackness so it gets the misty vibe? i want to make them look like a fever dream; something that's too good to be true. they are probably just in yuelou and junbai's head, pulling them back to the ground while fulfilling their desire of a good day with a good person sharing their dining table and food, and noone blames them for that. they are their ideas, their illusions, something they want to pursue, a dream comes true, a reason to live. but when that dream is crushed, they are back to the ground, to the painful reality, get punched and kicked and being told unworthy by life. that's where yuzhi and tangchun become good reasons to die.

How the most dangerous thing is to love?

this is a line from achilles come down that stabs me the most. i just want to incorporate this part to the gifset to show where did i learn about the french excerpt from camus.

i suppose this is the tang yuan stall because yuelou and yuzhi were not near their house when this tragedy happened. also, yuzhi emphasized that he wanted to eat tang yuan with yuelou when he's dying and the director showed us this establishing shot so, i assume this is the tang yuan stall.

this is yuelou's dream that is killed together with yuzhi. a dream of a beginning of a life that's not lonely and dark. look at the steam wafting. i see that like a smoke from a burned dream. it's yuelou's burning passion and new spirit are being smothered by the snow. and the snow represents that one phrase about God taking back an angel home (if you read my fic, you'll know). it's a picture of fate.

I want to say my besties FUTURE and SAYER so so bad but I can’t honestly say they wouldn’t just make the whole thing a little bit uncomfortable? the answer feels like it should be “theseus” but SAYER would be acutely aware that it’s a misnomer even if it was intended to invoke the parable, because the ship wasn’t named theseus and that’s the focus of the problem? maybe “timber” as a nod to how they replaced the rotting planks?

hale is very. not adamant or zingy with the names so it might just end up being called cat which makes me laugh

So since you asked for asks… your posts about walking bomb and spirit vs entropy magic and such was super interesting and it did get me to thinking about how my own headcanon re: the different classifications of spells into schools / trees in Origins vs II could have something to do with how most of the mages you encounter in Origins are from a more antiquated, “classically trained” background (obviously Morrigan seems like she should be the exception to that, except not because she was trained by the OG witch) so they might be more concerned with things like theory and taxonomy (like how closely are chickens ACTUALLY related to crocodiles, that sort of thing). Whereas all the mages and magic you encounter in Kirkwall come from apostates who are basically hacking this shit and they’re much more concerned with just getting results, so the classification you see there is just about what it feels like to use magic (like “i don’t care how closely birds and crocodiles are related genetically, when hunting one is absolutely nothing like hunting the other.”) I suppose this wasn’t really an ask, just a ramble, but yeah. I enjoy reading your headcanons and lore ideas.

so the four school system appears to be very much circle specific, or at least kinloch specific. it’s extremely formalised there (there’s codex entries which actually have them in two pairs of opposities, all the books in the library are organised by school, etc.) obviously the schools can’t apply to all companions’ understanding, but it’s notable that while arcane bolt is the very basic circle-trained mage spell, the only spell a mage warden must have, morrigan does not initially have it. so you get a glimpse from that of how morrigan does not actually quite belong to this system, even if that’s how her skills are presented to you. i always build morrigan with a mix of spells from each school for this reason, rather than my circle mages who tend to be more specialised :D

da2 works along a similar system, but broken down less formally. da2’s six schools of magic are, broadly speaking, primal split into primal and elemental, spirit split into spirit and arcane, and then creation and entropy. so the impression here is that it’s the same system as dao but broken up a bit. and that makes sense for exactly the reasons you said! we’ve got a kinloch hold apostate, an apostate with secondhand gallows training, and a dalish apostate. i imagine much like morrigan, merrill works on a different system that our perspective doesn’t let us see. but bethany and anders’ take probably would look much like what we see! actually the most interesting thing about the da2 system is that each mage companion has a school they can’t take. anders can’t run entropy (the “opposite” of his natural school, creation, according to the circle’s system), merrill can’t run creation (most associated with circle mages and least associated with blood magic) and bethany can’t run primal (i... don’t have an explanation for this. maybe malcolm wasn’t into lightning. maybe bethy doesn’t like the crunch sound it makes when you throw stonefist at someone. idk)

then you have the dai schools which, um, make me want to cry. when did spirit and then three entire elemental “schools” become sexier than literally anything else... this is the absolute extreme of “just throwing whatever you can at the enemy, whatever works” which makes NO sense for any of your mage companions who are all highly educated because bioware doesn’t love me and doesn’t care abt my scrappy mage interests. however i admit that it makes absolute sense for adaar and for any non mage inquisitor who is like “just throw lightning at them!” and dorian or whoever is like “actually inquisitor it’s—” and the inquisitor is like “PLEASE JUST THROW THE LIGHTNING BEFORE IT EATS MY FACE” and then they get zapped unconscious bc they didn’t listen to theory. sad. circle mage and mage lavellan inquisitor though wtf are you doing

What irritates you so much in narratives when reading stories or watching series or films?

Plot Armour!

Nothing can ruin a story more than warping the protagonists/their friends/ the antagonists with plot armour. When writing a story try to drive the plot around to achieve certain goals regarding your characters whiling maintain readers interest or shocking or manipulating their emotions. Keep in mind that a character escaping death is fascinating device that capture the readers’ emotions in its highest moment & release it with a mixture of relief, happiness & a rush of adrenaline. Fantastic narrative device. However, repeat it few times & the reaction you’ll get from your readers is mockery, disappointment, boring predictability & the most sever one: lack of interest in this character’s fate. Cuz, they’ll always win/live/survive.

Remember: it can only be used once! If a character dies, it should remain dead! only bring it back if it its resurrection itself adds to the story’s lore/world. But don’t repeat it more than once. If your character is chased / in a war/ fight let it escape death once, repeat it & all the fight/war looses its emotional weight. Examples below: ( I’m an anime only/ show only person. I haven’t read mangas/books yet)

1. Attack on titans:

(good example): Eren’s death in Se01,ep. 5 was epic! it shocked the viewers. When he was brought back again to life, it was to reveal that titans can be human & it created the most fascinating aspect of mystery in AOT. Eren’s resurrection in ep 8 unleashed the many questions abt titans’ creation, reason for fighting, & the basement mystery. In short, Eren’s death & resurrection started the world of AOT.

(Bad example): In se03 in the Battle to retake wall Maria. The writer attempted the same technique again with Riener. Levi attacked him as soon as Riener appeared from inside the wall by cutting his nape! (titans’/shifters’ weak spot). Riener nearly died for dew seconds & is back to life revealing new titan’s power on how they can escape near death. sth abt shifting conciseness from head to body. I’ll buy it, it is part of the titan’s lore & body mystery. It worked in creating amazing entrance for Riener in this epic battle. However, within the same battle, the writer goes & repeat Riener escaping death two more times after the first one I mentioned above!!! When his head is blown, he does the same titan’s body trick again... why repeat a cool trick twice within two minutes frm each other... you don’t need it! You could’ve found another way. However, the writer was aiming for the viewers to think that now is the real time Riener died! for us to cry like jean & Co. Then tadaaa~ Riener escapes death & calls Bert...One more time few hours away in the story’s real time, Riener is ready to be killed by hanji, we are desperate like jean, but zeke & cart titan came to rescue.. That’s 3 death escapes for Riener in ONE battle within two/three hours maximum!...

I haven’t seen se04 yet, but I know it is centered around Riener ( a character I love) but I’ll be counting more plot armour now.. I can no longer be worried abt Riener even if I see his body. I’ll wait for him to resurrect or move his consciousness. My biggest fear for that becoming the show’s habit..that non shifters like jean & co. will become in invincible & will cheat death in every epic battle. AOT is a story abt war. It will loose the horrible, destructive & deadly war atmosphere it created for so many eps if only non important characters die & the “ heroes” remain alive in every battle to save humanity. kinda like superman & comic heroes.. Please NO! Plot armour ruins stories! hopefully, the writer is satisfied with se03 plot armours & moves on.

2. Game of thrones:

(good example): Killing Ned stark. se01′s protagonist. It shocked & taught us that in GOT world no one is safe. This is NOT a story abt heroes. It is abt politics & its ugly tactics. Then Se03 The red wedding was so painful cuz we understood that once Robb & his mom are gone, they’ll never be back. We cried & it hurt! it served its purpose. (Yes, Catlyne became a haunting ghost in the books, but she is nowhere near the woman she once was).

(Bad example): When jon, Dany & co went to fight The Night King & tadaa~ the came back nearly untouched minus the missing dragon. In the final war with The Night King, No major character died & no fan favorite died either..... The white walkers killed all the unimportant extra actors. Theon was killed but his arc wouldn’t have been completed without him sacrificing himself to atone for his sins. In a way, his death is his freedom from guilt. Sir jorah mormont died but he too was not needed anymore as Dany (1) has a “true” lover now, (2) is set to became crazy & kill all & Sir Jorah would’ve been in the way of that as he is her most trusted advisor. So those who died really completed their arcs. But Not any of the super hero buddies around jon & dany. Nope! White walkers don’t touch them for plot armour. GOT became a story abt super heroes.

So you see, plot armour ruins epic & breathtaking stories & most importantly reduces what was once a heart stopping, dreadful moments into predictable aimless victory ... like nah~ they’ll escape cuz they’re the heroes/ fans love them/ ratings may fall/ they’re badass. So, be careful & play your cards right. Repeating near death escapes technique is not parallel or serve any narrative purpose.

out of the funniest lines they could have used to open the chapter up, this is just Peak. there’s so many moving parts to this. glynda’s rank soul. cinder having to be nice for TWO DAYS to make her chill out. the fact they’re taking the most menial form of transport of all time. oh my god they were sat beside each other. this is already so funny.

The EPs lack the ability to bring a resolution or closure. We never find out Haggar’s motivation or reasoning about Operation Kuron. We never find out who the “other one” was in the pilot. We never find out Shiro’s bayard form. Lance’s insecurities are never resolved. We never find out the limitations of Allura’s powers - she can transfer souls but can’t find the Black Lion galaxies away? There’s just so much left out of the story.

The EPs failed a long time ago, if that’s the case. When they decided to kill off one of the main characters without allowing the team to grieve, forced the most popular paladin off the team, demoted the leader of the team to a soldier, and abandoned its own lore, including breaking the strongest paladin-lion bond without any explanation - they failed to give the viewers any satisfying conclusion to this story. No matter what the next 13 episodes include, it won’t make up for the middle 39 episodes that literally brought tragedy after tragedy, especially to the team’s only LGBTQ+, multiple-minority character.

Josh Keaton is a consummate professional, and no doubt, Andrea Romano nailed it when working with him and the team. If there is one thing that is absolutely, without a doubt, above reproach with this show - it’s the voice acting. It is outstanding.

Voltron originally broke tropes, which was awesome. Allura wasn’t a princess locked away in a castle-ship but a knock-out, drag-out warrior who wasn’t afraid to get into the fray. Shiro, the strong-willed leader, wasn’t afraid to accept help. Keith, the loner, felt perhaps the most for his team. “Loverboy” Lance was actually the heart of the team, rather than a female character playing that part. Hunk, too, was strong but scared, and Pidge was not the stereotypical girl figure. 

In Season 3, the story began to fall into the traps of the tropes it had broken, and it’s been a demoralizing and disappointing journey ever since.

VLD misses a lot of emotional beats. One of the biggest failures was not showing when the team learned about Keith’s Galran heritage. Then we never see the emotional fallout with the clone, other than the team referring to him as “evil.” The clone fought alongside with the team, perhaps longer than Shiro, and the team never mourned him. Sendak and Shiro’s fight? Shiro never says a word, and then Keith kills Sendak, taking away Shiro’s right to fight back against his one-time captors. 

Lotor had Pidge’s dad and didn’t even try to make her a traitor to Team Voltron? Narti could control minds and not one of the paladins was ever brainwashed by her? Haggar did it to a clone, not even Shiro. 

Even Allura and Lotor’s relationship - Allura’s anger was the stereotypical  “woman scorned.”

So much potential, and it’s just wasted.

Shiro is important to many people in terms of representation, and I’ve read many posts about people who identify with him. I’m glad he’s had an impact upon your life, and I hope you can still take comfort in the earlier seasons. Please take care.

Shiro was revealed to be LGBTQ+, have a degenerative disease, and lose his place in Voltron - all in one season. The juxtaposition of the reveals is reprehensible, and it sends a horrible message to people who have mental and physical struggles, are LGBTQ+, and minorities.

That’s the issue - it’s not an excuse to kill all the LGBTQ+ characters. A show about war that has death and handles appropriately is one thing. Mourning the clone, mourning Shiro, mourning Narti - all those things should have happened, and they didn’t. (These characters were also all with physical and mental disabilities, DreamWorks.)

Showing children closure, helping them to understand death - is a good lesson to learn. But excluding Shiro from his only family, killing his one-time SO in a “fringe” move, and then killing the other LGBTQ+ couple in the show - not to mention killing Shiro four times - that’s a message DreamWorks should not be sending children.

Not to be technical - but that’s actually two things. Shiro did reunite with the team, but unfortunately, he wasn’t a part of the team. In fact, he was excluded to the point of no longer even being called a paladin, according to “The Journey Within,” and I agree. I wanted that in Season 7 as well.

I’m not sure, but I can say - I am sad that didn’t pan out, either. I wanted to see what Lotor and his generals could do in Sincline. I’m sad that Atlas, clearly built for Allura, didn’t talk to Allura first. Instead, she will always be Blue’s second choice, Lance Red’s second choice, and Keith left to Black because Shiro...didn’t not to fly Black anymore? I’m not quite sure why. The story never tells us. 

Rounding back - Sincline had so much more potential than was realized.

There are a lot of things that failed to keep the story together. The first and foremost was - you need to keep the team together, or at the very least, not lose two of your main characters in one 26-episode batch, one character for 24 episodes, another for 12.

I can’t say for sure, but what I can say is - the moment the EPs saw Shiro not as a character but as a plot device, is the moment the story began to unravel.
