Ok the latest episode of dungeon meshi is gory as fuck.

Major episode 11 SPOILERS

Given that the episode is dragon part one, I assumed they would fight the dragon, mostly fail, cliffhanger, and the next episode would be defeating it.

I did NOT expect them to kill it, root around its insides, and find Falins fucking bones!!

The foot comes down on Senshi and he immediately vomits blood? Chilchuk knocked out by bricks to the head, Laios loses his leg?! (Nitpick but. If the leg was disconnected what was keeping him from falling out the dragons mouth? Anime rule of cool physics?)

And then. Chilchuk and Senshi is heaps of pain and Laios' leg is just itchy? Its a good joke, but I think there's more. Those heals were too easy after that amount of unprecedented violent gore.

Laios had a btw-line about of the dragon and is mating and then dismissed the thought with no given reason. So I think next episode theres gonna be a second Red dragon. ( Its possible part 2 will be next season, but following more common episode title namings, red dragon 1 and 2 will be the season finale. )

And theres the unanswered question of the whole season, why is the dragon more active, why is the ecosystem of the dungeon off-balance. I think next episode will be our big clue.

Re Falin, its no coinicidence we were introduced to the racist rich guy who assures us that souls dont leave bodies in the dungeon. That was confusing up till the last episode because the characters sure act like death is possible, and we've seen dead people and heard about body-retrieval. Then Namari goes to revivals to ask about Falin and there are bodies stored behind the desk guy. Which puts the pieces together, bodies that can be retrieved are retrieved, and the people can be revived. If someone cares to, and presumably pays for it. Someones gotta pay for retrievals.

Its also no accident that our warm-fuzzy sibling scene before finding Falins skull is about a ghost who is trapped with his body, and Falins intuition/ability with ghost magic. Can she be revived, will she stick around as a ghost, remains to be seen. (Remains.)

As someone who hasnt yet read the manga, Im also curious about long term story. Ive gotten the impression that theres significant story to go, possibly probably they reach the end of the dungeon? But Ive not seen Falin present in any of the art, and for the story to continue they need motivation to keep going.

So Im guessing that Falin ends up as a ghost, or unreviveable, and they have to get to the bottom to find the mad mage, work out what stops people from crossing over post-death (does that include monsters, orcs, humanoid mermaids or fish-oid[???]mermen), and only then can they bring Falin back to life.

That or they revive her and theres some other plot hook, but my guess is what I just described.

(Another silly nitpick, the fire is blocked by the adamantium but the heat isnt a problem until after the fire is done? "WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE TO EXHAUST ALL ITS FUEL" THAT WOULDVE LEFT FALIN BEYOND ALL HOPE!!!!!!)

And its funny re Senshi's knife, ooh its mithril it can cut through anything, well of course! he's used it to cut every single monster theyve eaten! And we never wondered how! Foreshadowing by cookware, its ridiculous and I love it.

Last point is it just me or are...is it Kaka and Kiki? Theyre discount Vex and Vax, right?

its /hj. tbc i haaaate most yaoi the majority of it is tasteless voyeuristic erotica which isnt like an evil thing to make but still extremely bad. i think its funny and i mostly read it cos its hilarious. more thoughts under the cut

it's misrepresented and #misunderstood especially by western gay people. its not representation, it's not 'led by queer people', and the difference between 'yaoi' and 'boy's love' is marginal. it's predominantly heterosexual women who enjoy writing drawing reading two (or more..) guys fuck which is fine. yaoi vs bl is often used as both a categorical distinction (yaoi is erotica, bl isn't) and a moral one (yaoi is cringe/homophobic/bad and bl is pure/wholesome/untainted) which is like fundamentally so wrong if you know anything about the genre.

the history is really interesting. It's roots are firmly in shojou manga, as in, explicitly for young women. early works are often taboo-breaking and deal with sexual abuse, incest, etc. an early muse for the genre was bjorn andressen as tadzio in the film 'death in venice' and if you know anything about that film and andressen says A Lot. shonen ai (literally boy love) was originally a term which was pederastic in nature but became the name for the genre. to crib from the wikipedia article cos it summarises it well:

While the term shōnen-ai historically connoted ephebophilia or pederasty, beginning in the 1970s it was used to describe a new genre of shōjo manga (girls' manga) featuring romance between bishōnen (lit. Like the term fujoshi, meaning 'rotten girl', is the same it's very silly and self-deprecating. That's so fun! I think the yaoi genre in general is a really interesting phenomena that's rooted so deeply in Japan as a culture. I think it's great that women are able to sincerely enjoy something fun, I think it's great that women were able and continue to have successful careers in writing, and I also think it's mostly bad.

A lot of modern stuff, especially the works getting pumped out of korea by genuinely evil webtoon companies, suffer from the fundamental problems with serialisation. It putters from chapter to chapter and every single one is the same as the other. A lot of Japanese bl/yaoi is in the form of short fiction, about 5-10 chapters, and again there are fundamental problems with this. they often suffer from too much crammed in AND from so little stretched thin.

I also think yes morally or 'representationally' or whatever they are like Pretty cringe. like sorry uke/seme is BAD. sexual assault is not even handled so much as it is kicked around. Women are non-existent at best and horrifically sexist at worst. Also the writing, though ofc i read (often fan-) translated works, just sucks.

favorite thing about them

1) izukus ability to maintain the ability to be "just some guy" or even "just a guy in a shirt" in any given situation even if he is clearly not being just some guy and may not even be wearing a shirt

2) the fact that hes completely deranged about how far hes willing to go to save someone else. lets just casually break every single bone in my body i think this is probably an acceptable cost. now that ive broken my arms too much ill just switch to using my legs <3 like how are you 15 and with that much pain tolerance. and with that much willingness to test your pain tolerance. i love that he has something severely wrong with him in this respect. i wish we got to see how far he'd go to help someone else in other respects as well!

my biggest problem with izuku is just that i dont think hes very interesting as a protagonist. i dont think his ambition to be a hero is interesting because i dont think the way it clashes with his surroundings is interesting. LOL

like izuku is mostly a passive protagonist. things happen to him. he doesnt go out and do things. by the structure of the world horikoshi has created, he Literally Cant because of the restrictions that hero students work under.

now that could be interesting if izuku was more proactive and tried to do things beyond the limit of the law because he thought it was right. because then we have a conflict between order and justice, order and doing whats right, order and the human heart, etc. izuku would have to make choices, and sacrifices, and choose what he wants to stand for

but as far as the story is concerned, this never happens ... he never really has to make that choice! he faces a challenge and a conflict, something that could make him think and change and grow ... and then he just goes back to the status quo. the only thing that changes is the combat power he has. even his most recent emo phase where he dropped out of yuuei just ended with izuku going back to school and being a hero again or whatever LOL like what was even the point of that then? where is his character development?

the conflicts come to izuku, and izuku doesn't proactively cause or resolve any problems. he's a reactionary protagonist. that's why horikoshi has to constantly introduce new villains and new attacks to prod izuku into motion. and after a while, that kind of story telling gets boring. i feel like horikoshi doesn't have any faith in izuku to be an interesting or compelling character if he like, stands up for a belief or has a personality. but theres only so far you can go with having a "generic" protagonist before you have to give them something of substance so that the story can actually be interesting

honestly there's nothing wrong with being a passive protagonist but izuku being a passive protagonist isnt even done in an interesting way where being targeted by outside forces causes him to face consequences for all his efforts to stay uninvolved or to start being more proactive, or something. like the bottom line is that i want izuku to be a more active agent -- where maintaining the status quo, or challenging it, both are active choices with active consequences for the story.

that said, i like izuku's personality and i havent personally read anything of the manga since the gentleman villain arc so maybe horikoshis writing has secretly improved in the years since i dropped bnha. LOL

Gonna say it: he is a REALLY good character...a compelling backstory, relatable, funny, full of heart!!! But that weird pervy stuff Horikoshi adds for no reason!!! If he didn’t hit on Toga I wouldn’t say that!! Most people say just try to ignore it, and I do when writing him bc who cares about canon, right, but it’s hard to look past!! I KNOW it’s the Horny Lens this manga has a gross undertone of, but god!!! 

Him and Toga could’ve had a fun bff dynamic where he tries to make sure she has the family and care he didn’t get at her age!!! Why!!! It makes me so sad and angry. That I struggle to fully enjoy his character to what I know is his full potential. Bc of a few lines that were totally unnecessary and gross and added nothing at all, that were intended to be funny but were just fucking gross. >:”(

What do you guys think about the names Dustin and Darcy for my protagonists in Let's Go?

Cos i really wanted to play the co op mode thing by myself, just so i can pretend this role in the plot is filled by two siblings and have a bit of fun roleplaying that. But i dunno yet how the co-op works and whether you'd be able to customize the avatar of the second player or if its just the default trainer? Or can you only play co-op if you have two separate games? Im planning to buy the other version anyway once i get more money, so it could be fun to play my first version with sibling one and then the second playthru is sibling two's turn to shine!

Oh and the whole reason i wanted to do this is cos i wanna try out the customization features to make some ocs now that there's no competitive online stuff unless you pay a subscription fee (LOL NO THANKS). Like..i always felt like i HAD to make my character me in xy/sumo/usum, otherwise its like lying online? But of course i cant actually make me because theres no nonbinary option or even remotely ambiguous outfits for either gender. And you cant have wild hair colours while i dye my hair 24/7 irl lol. Its silly cos like 95% of the gym leaders and other characters ingame have anime hair colours yet the player has to be normal? So yeah i cpuldnt really enjoy making this innacurate defanged version of myself yet i didnt feel like i was allowed to just make up a new character either. Closest i could do was give myself white hair like my old trainersona when i was 12, lol. I mean i guess thats my 'real hair colour' underneath the dye right now, if you think about it that way?

Yeah! I think sibling trainers could be a good and unique way to handle a rival! Like having them be your sibling already establishes that rivalry. But it can be a soft and nice rivalry! I wanna go with that fun version rather than the full on angry exaggerated sibling rivalries you often see in kids media. Like i know that some people legit dont get on with their siblings and some people can even have a very gary esque full on rivalry thats sorta 'love to hate' or like..tsundere pretending you hate them. But personally i never had experience with that, i can never relate to those 'tfw u hate ur sibling and theyre always an asshole but lolll u love them anyway' posts. I only got to live with my little sister for a little while due to the catastrophe of abusive parenthood that was my childhood, and i lost contact with her forever when she was very young so i doubt she'd even remember me. *sigh* But like i don't think i only love her so much because i miss her! People say newborns and toddlers are the most bratty so like you'd think if i was gonna ever find her 'annoying' i would have done it back then. I was always just mega proud of her and whenever she'd be 'bratty' i'd be cheering her on and trying to protect her from mom. And when she'd try and pull pranks on me or practise play-fighting or whatever i was just like 'lol thats legit funny' and taking play-falls so she felt better about herself. Like we didnt have much power in that household so i felt like encouraging her pretending to be a wrestler would help her feel like she had some sort of control in some part of her life i guess? And just i wished i was allowed to roughhouse and run around and be all 'unladylike' and just enjoy BEING A KID when i was a kid, yknow? I always had legit fun being with her and legit enjoyed it and was legit proud and legit never annoyed. I just dont understand 'yeah she's annoying but i love her anyway'. I was only ever her rival as a play-rival to help encourage her to like.. Enjoy the things she enjoyed. Feel like someone else cared. I only ever acted like 'ha ha baby stuff yeah sure i hate hanging out with my sister" cos i thought i was SUPPOSED TO. I always felt so guilty doing it and so dissappointed cos id rather hang out with her than be a boring stereotypical teen tbh. I dunno, maybe this isnt typical for siblings and its just a sign of how badly we were raised? I was just real fuckin lonely and absolutely loved having a family member who loved me for the first time since my grandma died. Same reason i always used to act all 'i am too cool i totally am not soft for my lil sister' around my lil sister's dad. I really wanted him to love me too! I used to say swear words at him cos i thougjt he would thibk i was Cool And Adult?? I have soooo many cringe moments from that phase of my childhood. Man it hurts to think that i never actually did get to become that positive influence that protected my sister from my mum and let her know she was loved. Cos i was sent to live with my dad when she was like 5ish? And never saw her again and now im too scared to try and reach out to her again because 1: she probably doesnt even remember me, 2: theres a chance she believes my mum saying i was some horrible asshole who abandoned the family, 3: even bigger chance that contacting her could mean my mum finding me again and big fuckin risk of further abuse. Plus the awkwardness of introducing my trans self when she'd remember me as her sister and all. Sigh! All i can do is hope that her cool dad eventually got custody of her, and that he didnt turn out to be a secret bastard like when i met my own dad. He seemed good, but then again i was just a lil kid and my dad seemed good at first. Sighhhhhh...

Anyway the point is that whenever i write siblings i'd rather write 100% unapologetic super loving love cos its wish fullfillment for me. This is also why in/cest shipping is a massive beserk button for me, good wholesome family relationships are REAL FUCKIN IMPORTANT and how DARE you corrupt that shit! Some people would fuckin KILL to have that wholesome family!!

Anyway lol thats why i'd like a Wholesome Rivalry for these sibling ocs! Like they challenge each other to contests along the way just for fun, and they react all 'wow my sis is the BEST' when you beat them, so hard feelings at all. And you dont JUST do rival stuff but also sometimes just hang out and have fun cos you missed each other. And if anyone threatens your sibling then THAT is the only time you see the Serious Sibling Power! Rival moments: ha ha lol bet ya cant beat me ooo im a scary villain LOL I CANT KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE HAHA! Giovanni punches your brother: *stony cold death glare from hell as tricksy prank sis turns into an unstoppable vengeance engine* Oh, but also the only other time they'd be serious is in their final battle together! Like most of the 'rivalry' is just competing to make the adventure fun and to help each other get stronger. But if sis/bro ever actually legit said they really want to fight to find out who's the best, and its like..important to help their self confidence, then i think bro/sis would respect that and go all out. Taking a fall and letting them win would be the most disrespectful thing of all! Oh, but i do think there would be one kind of battle like that during the story? Like in one of the more low stakes faux-rival fights the sibling actually does try and let you win, and the challenge is to try and lose against all odds. High stakes super failure battle!!! Imagine the evil team in the background like 'wtf' as these two run the most aggressively slow race of all time! XD

Oh and i kinda thought about different personalities for the two of them based on who you pick? Like i did like that aspect about brendan/may in RSE compared to other 'unpicked option becomes rival' characters in later games that didnt even have one personality let alone two. It just sucks that the personalities they decided to give them were 'female rival is super self concious and thinks youre better than her because youre a boy' and 'male rival is super ego and thinks he's better than you because he's a boy'. Boooo!

So instead of that the personalities i was thinking for these two would be less sexist lol. Male sibling Dustin is basically Wally so far? I need to develop him a bit more to make him a bit distinct, i mean its not like every single shy dude is identical. I'm thinking maybe mix him with all the wasted potential in Brendan? Like in the game they slightly hint at him having the ONE non stereotypical trait of liking cute teddy bears, and that made me think about how much better his whole plot would have been if it actually criticized his sexism and said that he only behaves that way cos he's overcompensating for being bullied for being 'feminine', yknow? And then in the manga they actually DO write him as super feminine, and even as a contest star who loves fashion and dressing up his pokemon! But then GAHHH they present it as some sort of fuckin 'character flaw', like he's shown to be selfish and superficial because of it. And the backstory is that him and the female protagonist used to be 'normal' until a traumatic event. Brendan was a Natural Fighting Prodigy until he saved his female friend from a wild pokemon and was so traumatized that he never wanted to fight again, while she wanted to learn to fight so she'd never need to be protected again. But this is not only presented as Wrong Ways To Be Gender but also like.. Fighting their natural instinct which still comes through?? Like male protag hasnt fought in YEARS yet whenever he's forced to fight he's just magically better at it than female protag who's been practising all these years to become his equal. Ha ha silly girl you can never achieve that! All you get is this patronizing 'well if you just tryyyyy girly things im sure you'll like it' plot and then you get rescued by him in the end because OF COURSE you do. Sigh! I cant believe they made me hate that pairing even more than the games did! So yeah i dont really wanna write Dustin as a jerkass who's secretly got synpathetic motives of internalized homophobia/sexism, cos i feel thats a plot very specific to my perceptuons of Brendan and id basically just have to make Dustin a clone of him and he wouldnt be able to shine on his own merits. Instead i'm just thinking of writing him as a 100% sensitive soul, and he still faces predjudice for not being that bigoted idea of an 'ideal man' but really the fact he doesnt bow down to their demands proves that he's the bravest person here.

And then I'm thinking maybe the female sibling Darcy is the older one and is a bit "gary ish"? Like eitjer way you still have a friendly and loving siblingness, but she's a bit more of a sass who is tsundere about admitting she loves her bro. But i dont think she's the cold or grumpy sort of tsundere, more like a trickstery tomboy? Bombastic loki jock sis! She can only be a bit abrasive with her bro cos she wants to teach him to be tough even when she's not there to protect him. But sometimes she can mess it up and make him feel like he has to change his personality in order to be tough, rather than letting him know she supports him in being "unmasculine" and just wants to help him find the confidence to stand up to people who bully him for it. Like she feels like she is 'weaker' than him in the sense that she worries too much about what people will think if she expresses her real emotions, yknow? Like theyre both suffering from toxic masculinity! He's suffering from the standard form where men who are too 'soft' are beaten down into that mould. Ans she's suffering from the problem where 'masculine' girls feel like they have to be '100% masculine' in order to be allowed to be themselves at all. Like back when i was a kid and before i came out as trans i always used to try and pretend to like sports ans like..cliche macho shit where you Cant Admit You Care About Your Friends and also i wasnt allowed to like ANY feminine things at all. I had to either follow the stereotype of femininity entirely or follow the opposite stereotype, i wasnt allowed to just reject stereotypes and like what i actually like. So yeah me realizing i wasnt really a girl has led to me embracing more 'girly' things than back when i thought i was one! So i think Darcy would have a similar arc but like..the cis equivelant? Just finds people who arent such judgmental pricks and stops having to conform to either of those stereotypes in order to keep fake friends who dont really give a shit about her. She can have a plot about both forced feminine and masculine stereotypes being equally limiting, rather than that shitty 'being masculine is a prison uwu every woman will be happier embracing her love of makeup' shit. That dominant narrative just made me feel like i was somehow wrong about myself whenever i didnt like 100% Of Sports All The Time, i must be somehow girly if i liked even ONE girly thing yet i needed hundreds of proofs if i wanted to be masculine. And like i wasnt just allowed to be neither! I wasnt allowed to like parts of both! I wasnt allowed to BE GODDAMN TRANS!!! So yeah i dunno if i'd go whole hog and make this character a trans man or a nonbinary person tho? I think she's just actually a cis girl who happens to be sporty and brash and likes a lot of 'masculine' fashion and hobbies. And she's just been made to feel self concious about it, as if she cant possibly REALLY be that unless she likes Every Single Boy Thing and wins at Every Single Challenge. The girls have to win Every sports game against the boys in order to be 'one of the boys' but if you lose even one of them it somehow proves that you're inferior. Like man she has sooooo many 'gary rivals' in her school life, thats why she loves going on this adventure with a kind brother rival who actually respects her! So her resolution would just be her staying the same but being more confident about it and saying fuk u to those fake friends. Oh but yeah when i did finally learn about LGBT stuff and realize i was trans it was Big Amazing cos even in the rare stories about Its Okay To Be Yourself it still left me feeling weirdly empty when the girl decides that yes she does wanna be a girl in the end. So i get that these plots might come off as queerbaiting if i write them badly? I need to make sure to make it clear that these characters 100% want to be seen as this gender and its just other people being fuckfaces and trying to define what their gender has to mean. I think maybe i'll try and mitigate this potential misunderstanding by adding different sorts of lgbt content. And, well, also cos i just want lgbt content in all of my stories because i am lgbt, of course! I'm 100% sure that Darcy is gay, and i think also maybe possibly Dustin is trans? Like, his plot is about being mocked for being a 'feminine' boy, but its also even more personal for him because he's a trans boy and he feels like he needs to change his personality in order to pass/he isnt really real because his personality doesnt fit the stereotypical image of a man. Like if you'd looked at the two of them back when they were identical twins, you probably would have expected Darcy to end up being trans if you were the sort of person who believes those basic ass stereotypes about 'boys who play with barbies and girls who play with trucks'. Or i mean maybe its the other way around and Darcy is a trans girl who still has a 'masculine' personality according to stereotypes? Or even both of them are trans and both face being told that they arent real because they dont fit the perfect stereotype of a trans person according to cis perceptions? Or maybe i'm overcomplicating things with all of this and it'd just muddy the message i guess. I might just keep it to them both being cis but also both of them like girls. And i can always apply my trans and other LGBT headcanons to other characters along their adventure.

Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan - it’s the Game of Thrones of anime imo.. like it’s so GOOD.. it will just make you gag after every episode. it’s so intense and there are really badass characters. and the plot is really brilliant. like i’m almost finished with season 1 and i’m just shook after every single episode. i watch during my cardio sessions in the gym lmao after every workout.. and its great cause it’s like when a titan is chasing a character, i end up walking faster on the stairs Lmaoo so intense

Love Live! - i honestly just watched this like out of curiosity and just for kicks. i was not expecting to love it but after episode 3, i was like wait??? wasnt this anime supposed to be fun?? why am i crying?? so yeah, it’s super good, touching, entertaining and sweet! and the songs are really catchy and good.. it’s such a WLW anime and there’s a canon couple :>

Love Live! Sunshine - i watched this like a few months after finishing Love Live! cause i loved the OG girls and i was worried i wont like these girls.. but honestly, LLS is EVEN GAYER.. and is soo good too!

Kimi no Na Wa - universally lauded and recently released! it’s the best film released in 2016 imo. i swear it’s really next level storytelling

Anime watched/finished:

Rurouni Kenshin - i think i watched this anime twice/thrice.. It’s so suspenseful. it’s about samurais. and this anime made me interested about Japan’s history. it’s kind of a period drama with amazing fight sequences. and it’s critically acclaimed. it’s my father’s all-time favourite anime

Rurouni Kenshin OVA - it’s a prequel. also more violent and tragic than its anime counterpart.. like it’s really different from the series. but it’s so good. you’ll find out how Kenshin got his iconic X mark from here!)

Ghost Stories - THE DUB IS A MASTERPIECE! You really have to see this one. the anime bombed in Japan so the english dubbers got all the rights for the anime and they gave the go signal for the dubbers to do whatever the fuck they want. it ended up being like an anime Scary Movie with a hilarious script

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - i swear do not be deceived.. it is a really intense and surprisingly dark anime with excellent plot twists

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - super funny anime. if you need a laugh, this will really lift you up. i watched the first two episodes in sub and dub back to back.. and i can vouch that the voice actors for the English dub are excellent. it’s actually even funnier.. but if you prefer subs, then that’s fine. it’s just the lines are more humorous, expressive and have more variety :) Nozaki’s voice is also attractive in the dub.. it’s still very Nozaki imo. this anime pokes fun at the shoujo manga yet still has romantic elements. it’s mostly comedy though 

Jigoku Shoujo / Hell Girl - angst, tragedy, philosophical anime analysing humanity’s hatred, need for vengeance, and suffering. Futakomori or the 2nd season is my favourite but it’s worth finishing the entire series. 3rd season is very painful to watch though and you dont have to watch that one tbh

Yu Yu Hakusho - occult, spirit world, ghosts, and fighting. you most probably have heard of this

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 1st series starring Yugi. iconic!

Digimon - can be very intense! better than Pokemon imo

Cardcaptor Sakura - this is also suspenseful. like the premise is essentially that Sakura has to catch all the “monsters” that were freed from this book. and it’s up to her to “capture” them and put into cards. magic, fantasy, and beautiful animation

Ranma ½ - this was so funny but the ending was disappointing cause it got cancelled apparently.. i really hope this will go out of limbo and give us a proper ending like InuYasha did but i doubt it

Danganronpa (murder plot twists, intense and despair-filled storyline. btw i highly suggest you play this game (it’s available on Steam) instead of watching the poorly condensed anime. so buy it on steam or you can download it how you like cause it’s one of the best games ever. and if you plan on watching this, there is no Danganronpa 2 anime so yeah just play the game tbh. but a playthrough/game since the anime is based from the game. murder, plot twists, suspense. click this to know more about the premise. it’s Battle Royale meets CSI. after watching this, here’s a link of the playthrough of the 2nd game. it’s super fun, full of plot twists, and interactive) 

Yuri On Ice - it’s a really cute gay anime. people will argue it isnt and its queerbait but i’m gay and alot of the things which happen are too much for just bros to do so yeah, i believe it’s canon gay or mlm. and i enjoyed it so you watch it and be the judge

Bnha (like who do you legit dislike will all of your being?)

So the obvious answer is, well, obvious - Mineta, of course.  I dont trust anyone whose least favorite BNHA character isn’t Mineta //sHOT  Mineta is a boring answer so im gonna talk about my second least favorite character, but I wanna talk about Mineta for a second because I do have a lot to say about him.

The problem with Mineta isn’t really Mineta; it’s that he’s indistinguishable from every other child-like annoying pervert character out there.  I dont watch a whole lot of anime and what I have watched was either 1. recommended to me by someone who I know hates this kind of shit too, or 2. was written/dubbed for kids.  Having said that, I already know he’s indistinguishable from other perverts because I cant even distinguish him from the one other child-like pervert I’ve had the misfortune of coming across in an anime.  He’s a tired trope and nothing more; it’s just unfortunate that he had to be such an uncomfortable trope to begin with.  In a way he’s fundamentally broken, but it’s less that he’s broken and more that he’s uninspired.

Like, Hagakure is arguably in the same “role” as Mineta (and I know that seems like an insult but bear with me its not I sWEAR, I LOVE HER) because they’re both entirely comedy reliefs.  Hagakure may have a serious moment later in the manga, I wouldn’t know.  But Hagakure is a well-rounded character that doesn’t fall into a clear trope (albeit her jokes are somewhat predictable since, yknow, invisibility isnt an uncommon super power) and has a multi-faceted personality.  As a fairly minor character, she’s more than developed enough for her role, however if they made her more central to the story she would have to get more development.  But she’s quirky, she’s shy, she can be feisty when she wants to be, and she has known relationships with other characters.  We know which characters are her friends and which she doesnt interact with much.  And because there’s so much to her, she’s 100000x better than Mineta on a fundamental (ie not factoring how much better she is because mineta is a pervert and i love hagakure) level because she’s a comic relief who isn’t just a tired trope.

The other part of Mineta is that the thing about pervert characters is that the “humor” in them kind of follows the same rules as grossout humor, from my understanding.  Unfortunately I’m not a fan of either so even if he did this right I wouldnt like him.  With gross-out humor, the goal is not to gross out your audience.  The goal is to gross out your characters and have your audience laugh at their misery.  Kinda like how slapstick is supposed to be funny; you enjoy watching characters get hurt, but you dont want to be hit with a frying pan yourself.  In mineta’s defense, he actually….kind of does this well.  I cant believe I’m about to defend mineta, but fuck.  A lot of the humor in his jokes tends to come from punishment coming to him for his advances and punishment just coming to him in general.  You’re supposed to laugh AT him, not with him.  His advances are the setup to the joke, and Tsuyu or Jirou killing him or him having to clean up a house when he went on a heroing internship with a beautiful woman instead of actually hanging out with said woman are the punchlines.  This isn’t the case in all of his jokes though, just the majority of them.  And that doesn’t override the initial uncomfortable-ness of pervert characters.  Like I dont like seeing characters throw up because something is gross, that just makes me uncomfortable.  Even if I dont see the vomit it’s still not comfortable.  Neither type of joke is my style of humor and I cant imagine that ever changing. (slapstick is tho, love me some slapstick)

BUT because Mineta is an obvious, boring answer, I’ll give you my second answer too - which is Bakugo.

I dont have some big wild tangent to go off on on the fundamental badness of Bakugo, because Bakugo is actually a really well-crafted character.  Probably not BNHA’s best since BNHA has so many good characters, but Bakugo is above most shows’ and stories’ characters by a sizable margin.  He’s well crafted to be a dick with a motivation/inspiration that also isn’t sympathized with by the narrative.  The narrative isn’t like “aww poor Bakugo” even though he has a reason for why he acts the way he does, it’s like “haha fuck Bakugo” and I really appreciate that.  His bad behavior is properly punished.

But as much as I respect him and his treatment on a fundamental level, HE MAKES ME ANGRY.  I’ve never been a fan of angry anime characters, ever.  They almost always piss me off and the only ones I can sort of tolerate are emos with tempers.  If a character’s first reaction to something is “punch it/blow it up/whatever” I’m going to dislike them on a personal level.  I dont know why, but I just cant stand angry characters.  I guess I’m just such an opposite to them that they make me mad.  They’re the kind of people I would loathe meeting in real life, because I HATE yelling and loud people and angry people and UGH.  Like calm down, eat some bread, and just fucking talk about your issues jfc.  I’m the kind of person who, well first of all I rarely get angry, but when I do get seriously angry, I either go completely quiet or I talk very seriously.  As in, story-level serious writing, no jokes, no emojis or internet talk, none of that.  If I’m only a little upset or angry I might try to diffuse a conversation by calmly calling someone out and saying “its okay!” or just completely ignoring it and being friendly anyways, but my point is that I dont yell.  I have no idea how people can write in caps and be seriously angry like…dont you feel ridiculous.  And yelling irl hurts my throat and my ears so

But obviously I hate Mineta way more than Bakugo on every single level.  Bakugo might arguably make me angrier but also I underestimate how angry Mineta makes me unless he says something right in front of me so

i think it was just a seasonal thing that i decided to start watching? i almost dropped it first episode but i kept going for some reason and was super hooked after like 3.. and then after episode (14 i think?) i got impatient and read the whole manga and .. now here we are

ive said before but the fanservice at first was really bad and sometimes its still bad lol.. i understand this is part of the premise but i wish the first episode/chapter wasnt so awful fanservice wise? bc it really never gets worse than that and i feel like it deters a lot of people from getting into it.. i dont mind it as much as at first because its mostly just kind of ridiculous and funny esp since nobody is spared from it including old dudes but i mean. if u could just tone it down a bit thanks

i literally cannot remember why i started but i remember as soon as i did i was super into it and watched the whole thing in one night (this was around when s1 was almost done airing maybe 20 episodes?) and it was how i started getting into other anime lsdkfj. haikyuu was where it all began fuck im sure i journaled about it at the time but my old diaries are at home

Fave thing about the fandom

haikyuu was literally the first animanga fandom i was ever in and almost the first fandom i was ever in? (before that was p much only long period of pokemon and then briefly homestuck) so like its still special & nostalgic to me even if im behind and dont feel as much about it as i used to? like 2 years ago i made so many friends from hq fandom and most people have diff interests now but its still idk rly nice. im glad that hq made me want to get more into anime. also me and hanna started like talking a lto because of haikyuu which i am Grateful for. i have lots of nice memories bc i was almost exclusively haikyuu fandom for a while which is pretty much the only time i was ever a single fandom blog (since after haikyuu i started watching and liking more and more stuff) and it was a cool and special time. i mean ofc this is totally subjective and its just how hq fandom helped me through the end of high school but.. yea.. (((wrote a lot oops)))
