There's already a ton of election software or websites with names corresponding to "voting buddy" or similar
but I'd like a term for a person or group you've made an agreement with to each support and enable the other to vote. A source of mutual encouraging reminders (and maybe mild guilt about not meeting an expectation)
Any and all suggestions welcome. It would be great if there was a catchy name so this could become an accepted Thing

Welcome Home Finfolk AU Headcanons Part 1
Just some headcanons on the characters so I can come back to this later for writing/reference. And a bit of a tease for some people eager for Finfolk/selkie stuff. Warnings: Implied kidnapping. It's kind of a given considering that in Orkney folklore finfolk often kidnap people they like/love.
Original post:
(I guess this takes place in a puppet world? Like humans are just humanoid puppets so it's not as confusing to make Welcome Home characters complete puppets but finfolk versions.)
Eddie Dear:
A complete sweetheart of a captain that's a bit clumsy. While Wally can steer the waters himself, he'd much rather have Eddie be the captain on most of their ships, having found that the much larger man knows the waters better than himself and Home.
Eddie is so sweet that most don't even notice the unusual way his felt skin slightly changes colors when it rains, the small finned ears tucked under his captain's hat, or the tiny teal scales that grow under his arms when he's stressed. Maybe he's a lot more clever than people realize. Using that sweetness of his to distract others from what's happening...nah, he's just a clumsy sweet guy, right?
Instead of having shipments in, it's usually Eddie that helps bring in most of what the island has when it comes to strange items. They're still a bit stuck in the 70s so sometimes Eddie brings back boatloads of lost shipments with up to date everyday items.
Wally Darling:
Wally Darling is a true finman at heart. He keeps all those he is close with very close on this island he made so long ago with his and Home's own magic. He may or may not have helped kidnap a few of the neighbors with Home and others, bringing them here.
Sometimes Wally will find himself in looser fitting clothing on warmer days. But usually he keeps a suit worn with his pompadour being well-kept. Everything at Home must be perfect.
Unlike most finmen, his powers have gone far beyond what is normal. While most can control the ocean waters through waves and small rain showers, Wally has little to no trouble making storms, hurricanes, giant whirlpools, and changing the very currents of the ocean to his favor.
Making Home was probably his greatest feat yet. Creating an island wasn't uncommon for his kind. But creating a giant, living, sentient island hidden within a vale of sorts in the middle of the ocean that not even other finmen could reach was something otherworldly. It's like he's creating a whole new world.
He will sometimes crash planes and ships far out in the ocean if they so much as get too close to the world they reside in. Of course he ensures that Eddie, Howdy, or Barnaby goes over to the crash sites to wipe away any memory of where the passengers have been, just in case...and maybe he should start up a rough storm or two in that area for good measure. You can never be too sure.
Of course Wally never expects anyone to actually make it to the shores of Home, but if someone ever did, well...that would be quite the impressive feat! You'd have to not only get past the others sensing your presence in their waters (coupled with oncoming storms), but also get past the vale their world resides in.
Truly, Wally just wants everyone in Home to be able to live happy and free here. He often creates more and more islands and small peninsulas along with the others just to explore and have fun. And they do have fun and joy, almost everyday! Though he needs to slow down on the island-making, he often gets lost on his own creations sometimes.
Barnaby B.Beagle:
At first glance he's just a big ol' fluffy dog with a big personality, but when it rains or when water is doused on the guy? He really tends to grow in size.
Unlike the others, Barnaby tends to have a completely different form when he lets loose. Instead of scales, he grows smooth and cool skin, and instead of pointy fin ears he grows side gills and one large triangular fin on his lower back. (Poppy often needs to help fix his clothes for this reason.) All this topped with giant rows of sharp teeth. Very shark-like indeed.
Due to his size and sharp features, it's no wonder that Barnaby often accompanies Eddie or Howdy when taking care of people that are getting too close to Home, or when someone on the mainland is getting a liiiittle too close to pinpointing where Home's vale is. You could say he's a bit like a giant guard (shark?)dog.
Sometimes Frank wonders if Barnaby is even a finman like the others or if he's some kind of hybrid...or possibly a subspecies?
This big guy is friendly and loves cracking jokes, but he isn't dumb, and he definitely isn't letting anyone hurt his family.
Wally and Barnaby go way back to when he was just a pup (get it?), having been washed up ashore on what was a lonely Home at the time. Wally was the first person to ever treat him so kindly and not judge him for how he looked in his original form. Most finmen hated it.
Barnaby so far has been the only one to ever make it to Home on his very own. Maybe it takes something special to get here. Or maybe it was Home who invited him that time and not Wally's invitation.
Frank Frankly:
Quite frankly the most nerdiest guy at Home. Not only is Frank's house neatly organized with specimens of insects everywhere, but that has evolved to specimens of fish and many books on mythical sea creatures, something that started all thanks to Eddie and Home.
Frank remembers his first time here clear as day. He was so skeptical that finfolk were real or that any mythical creature was real. It took a lot of convincing and quite a few magic tricks to finally get him to open up his eyes about that.
The man has been obsessed with the life that resides in the ocean since he first learned about finfolk. You could ask him about any, and I mean ANY sea creature and he'd probably know everything about it.
One of his keen interests is that of finfolk and selkies. They had similar traits but were vastly different in many ways. Finfolk he could research on however long he wanted considering he was living with them. But unlike finfolk, selkies weren't seen as much anymore. Stars, selkies were even considered on the verge of going extinct according to other finfolk and sea creatures, something about selkies getting their coats stolen too often? Frank would shake his head at that thought. Some people were just too cruel.
Sometimes Frank will feel a pang of loneliness when studying on his own, but usually Eddie is there to cheer him up, or Julie, even if she was a bit too much.
Both Julie and himself are the only residents at Home that are not finfolk, just some ordinary people that found their way here, though they don't remember how or when...
You(Suprise short fic! Hahahaha-):
There was something off about this part of the ocean. You have never ventured this far out before, always staying close to coasts and peninsulas, but it was like you were just drawn to a force here.
You perched yourself onto the small deck of the tiny sailboat you owned and crossed another spot out on the map. There was nothing here either, just like the past few miles you checked. No islands or signs of land in sight...and yet you could sense that something was indeed there. Call it an instinct, but your body was refusing to leave you alone until you satisfied your curiosity.
Looking down into the deep waters, you debated on going back down there to take a second look...nah. You were still soaked and the fur would take forever to dry off again. That, and the skies continued to darken as if it would rain any second now. Actually, a nice swim and a quick look seemed like a good idea.
The fur hood slipped over your head as you buckled the inside of your jacket to keep everything secured, the last thing you needed was a current to take away your seal jacket, you put too much time and effort into making your seal fur a real set of clothes.
You jumped in as soon as thunder roared right behind you, feeling the tingling feeling of bristles and fur wrapping around your felt skin. There wasn't supposed to be a storm yet...
The currents began to change, almost pulling you towards the place of interest from earlier, it was far too strong for you to swim against even as your flippers swished back and forth as hard as they could. Before you could turn your back to face another direction, rough waters ripped your body from left to right, up, and down, until everything felt too dizzy to gather your surroundings. Your vision was such a blur that you did not notice the sailboat you were once on begin to sink down towards you. A long metal object suddenly made contact with your head and everything went black.
I had this finfolk-selkie hybrid OC for the longest time and every time I looked at selkie OCs no one seemed to make it into normal-ish clothing. Like imagine being a selkie in the modern world. Having a seal coat turned into the softest hoodie or jacket would be the best thing ever. You could take it anywhere with you in plain sight and no one would even know.

I’m so glad to have found other Jod enjoyers on this site. Top John Gaius “makes you want to chew on the furniture” moments?
Okay I can FINALLY take some time to answer this now, huzzah!
I have some other John related asks I'm VERY excited to answer but I have gotten far too sleepy now so I once again have to wait on those because I have a LOT to say and I am incapable of not treating everything like I'm writing an essay and bringing in citations.
But anyway, if I gave all of my top John moments this post would be a thousand miles long so I'm just going to give some of my faves. And this is in no particular order, I'm just putting them down as they come into my head
"Is that the truth, or the truth you tell yourself?" asked Augustine. "What is the difference?" said God. This exchange makes me go INSANE. I can't even be coherent about it right now, I just love how chilling John's response is, and also Muir using God here. I love her very clever choices in terms of what she calls John and when. Calling him God (or by another one of his fancy titles) can either be used for comedy (aka "Thanks," said God) but it can also be used for an absolute wham line like this one and it's just very good. I love it. It's chilling. He's so scary
When Harrow explodes G1deon and everything is going insane and then John just says "Stop" and just freezes everybody. It's such a cool moment. He just STOPS it all, I LOVE it. Also: The Emperor of the Nine houses—the Resurrection—the First Reborn—sat at the end of the table, his plain face splattered with gore, and his eyes were the death of light. Oh my GOD is that such a good line, I am deeply not coherent here but god I love this entire moment, it's such a good reminder of how powerful John is (and then him being like "I did't really want to eat human again Harrow" sdfghj)
The entire section where he reconfigures himself after Mercy exploded him. And then his killing Mercy so casually. But what I really love about it is how stone-cold he is after it all ("I never liked cleaning house all at once") I love how this scene really shows how right Augustine was earlier in the book when he told Mercy "John is never as sentimental as you think." John is so matter-of-fact and it is SO good when we see him turn on a dime like this and start cleaning house (I also love "You acted afraid—" "Acted is operative. But this is not am FAQ.") I am not explaining myself well here but I just love the way that John, who we have seen as this very affable, mellow, often very funny character throughout, turns on a dime and is suddenly so ruthless, right after killing someone who he was begging to forgive him moments before. The absolute callous tone he has ("I didn't offer it to Mercy because Mercy really pissed me off, I'm sorry to say.") is so jarring and it's GREAT. And I've seen people point to this as proof that like, 'oh John doesn't actually love them like he says he does, John is a liar he was faking his affection.' And that is SUCH a boring read. What's much more interesting, and terrifying, is the idea that John can be fully in earnest with his affection, but then just so brutally flip a switch when he's pushed. Idk, it's just a great moment. I am explaining myself poorly here I know asdfghj
"Harrowhark, nobody has the right to know," he said fiercely. "Nobody has the right to blame you. Nobody can judge. What has happened, has happened, and there's no putting it back in the box. They wouldn't understand. They don't have to. I officially relieve you from living in fear. Nobody has to know." I love this line because it's like, John are you talking about Harrow, or yourself? And with the context of NtN this becomes even more clearly John bringing his own baggage to the table. It's so good. I have a whole post brewing in my head on this subject that I am sure I'll inflict on my poor innocent followers at some point
Uhhh, every single John interlude in NtN. I know that's cheating but literally every single one had me going off my rocker.
But even more specifically, John 1:20. That entire section may be my favorite part of the book. I actually had to stop reading for a moment after I finished it (and no joke I did whisper "damn, Tamsyn" out loud and I was, in fact, crying a bit. it was also like, 6am and I had been up all night aserfghj). But seriously I wanted to pick a single part or so from this to highlight but I can't. It's all so good. And heartbreaking. John crying at C— and N— 's wedding, and eating for the first time in ages, the building desperation at the state of the world and how helpless they all feel and that bit of humanity and joy with the wedding, immediately followed by...everything else. "John, your problem is that you care less about being a saviour than you do about meting out punishment." John and Cristabel's final conversation. The absolute heart wrenching stuff with John seeing everyone die and his blurry recollection of it because holy shit it was horrendous. Literally everything else. Also THE MOMENT HE LETS GO, the entire sequence of him trying to take the earth into himself, and then the terrifying description he gives of him eating the solar system and pursuing the departing ships. Also I just really love "All those frightened people. All those run-away rats." I think I just have a very clear uh, 'line read' of that bit in my head, and I love the way he calls them frightened and then the absolute rage in the way he calls them rats. Idk, it's really clear in my head I can't really explain myself better here. But anyway yeah, the ENTIRETY of this interlude makes me go absolutely wild to the point that I cannot be coherent about it.
John 5:4, and everything John says about forgiveness, and what he'll do next, and taking his friend's memories. Again I can't really be coherent about this entire section, but I will give my fave bit from it. "There can be no forgiveness for those who walked away," he said. "Just as there can be no forgiveness for me—even though I rip the very fingers from my hands...throw them into the jaws of the monsters who hunt me...as I run from them across the universe, end to end. Something will satisfy them eventually, but nothing satisfies me. Nothing." I put that last bit in italics because it is maybe my fave line from John. There's just something about it. It's just so tragic and chilling and terrifying and I LOVE it and I love how it is sort of this like, succinct and perfect sum of the tragedy of him. Idk it's just, chef's kiss.
Okay finally, not a direct John moment per se, but this: John loved her. She was John's cavalier. She loved John. For she so loved the world that she had given them John. For the world so loved John that she had been given. For John had so loved her that he had made her she. For John had loved the world. I have so many thoughts and feelings on this that I cannot articulate but oh my goddddd. It's so good. First of all the whole playing off of John 3:16 thing. And just...the wording, the way it all flows. I cannot be coherent about this I just go insane. That ending For John had loved the world hit me like a brick the first time I read it, and continues to do so every time I reread it. There's something so simple and final and heartbreaking about it. I think it sums of the tragedy of the character and his story in one simple line. If that makes any sense whatsoever.
ANYWAY, this is an absolute ramble of an answer I know, but the prompt here was 'makes you want to chew on furniture moments' and I feel like with that vibe in mind the level of not hinged I am here is at least thematically appropriate. Also thank youuuuu for sending me this ask, it has made me very happy

I wasn't even aware of that drama that sprung up, and looking into it, I'm also going "why are they accusing you of stealing the post?" You didn't do the screen cap as far as I can tell, plus you didn't erase any usernames like some sites that actually steal posts to get ad traffic do. Hopefully it all just blows over quickly? Good luck!
People who know nothing about me have been attacking me for my entire life, starting with the man who was my father. This is nothing new to me. It's not the first or last time I will be brigaded by an armada of white knights who I want to believe are well-intentioned, even if their actions aren't the greatest in the moment.
Within 24 hours, nobody will remember any of this, including the wonderful post that hopefully made lots of people laugh the way it made me laugh. Which is a bummer, because that's a great post.
On a personal note, I doubt very much that anyone cares, but imagine what a bummer it is to find something you like, share the thing you like, and then the person who made that thing decides it wasn't shared in the appropriate way ("stolen"? Really? I'm an artist, too. I know what stealing is and this isn't it) ) so they send wave after wave of random angry children at you to disrupt your day as much as possible. And when you make the effort to reach out to them, they choose to be a dick about it.
Okay. That's a choice.
I mean, you want the 85 cents of ad revenue I guess someone says I cost you? Okay, fine. How do you want me to get that to you? Bitcoin okay? Question: Are you raging against Witches Vs. Patriarchy for posting it? How about all the other places and people who saw this, thought it was great, and just shared it the way people do online? Did you put them on blast, too? What is it about me that made me worth the effort?
It's all a giant bummer, and what a shame that this whole thing started with something wonderfully entertaining and clever that I shared specifically to make people happy the way it made me happy. And now it's just this ... this fucking thing where I'm the asshole.
Sure, Jan.

TB&TB Anon Answers! 🐇 [NSFW]
1. Ah, I absolutely adore when people quote me back @ me 😭 It's so sweet and it makes my day every time (especially when I forgot what I even wrote, like right now).
Also, who ever said omg and wowow aren't real words? They are my preferred form of communication 😌
2. You flatter me! Love definitely exists, and I can't wait for you to find it. I'm so excited to show you all more of Penelope! She is not over yet!
Which reminds me, do you y'all have any strong feelings about wanting to see her interact with the team more (like karaoke)? I don't really have any planned, and I'm not sure it would actually be productive for the plot. I might write a little spin off fic for it one day, though. As always, you can let me know here.
3. Never worry about not reading it right at release! I love when people message me a long time after, it just reminds me that people are still stumbling upon my mess and enjoying themselves.
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Part 18! I knew it would be a hard one for a lot of people. It was so cathartic to write, and I was shocked by how nice everyone was about it.
For those who missed it, I actually finished Part 21, I just realized today that I never went and updated Part 20 to add a link. You can read Part 21 here! Thanks for sticking around, and I hope you enjoy H2M.
Also... you're fantastic!
4-6. You are so sweet for doing this for me. I really appreciate you, and I hope you know that. It really makes my day every time.
Penelope is one of the most difficult characters to write for me! I honestly think she is one of the most creative characters, and I often find myself unable to string something unique enough together to sound realistic to me. So, I'm very glad you all think it works!
Garvez was stolen from us, and I refuse to accept it. They are in love. Let them be in love, CBS 😭 (or at LEAST give us Ralvez).
He's such an asshole sometimes, lmao. I have an interaction later between Penelope and Spencer that I think encapsulates their relationship well. I wish CBS had gone more into their friendship, because I think it's one of the most valuable ones on the show. (I mean, come on... "If Reid dies, I quit"? Gold.)
I'm always torn between whether Spencer would definitely want to fuck in a library, or NEVER fuck in a library (what if the books get damaged?!).
I'm so glad you caught the petals/feathers part! I didn't get a lot of comments on that section on the other platforms and I felt so clever when I wrote it 😅
Man, the Russian bits in this were just straight translations ripped from a site of "romantic sayings in Russian." If anyone can speak Russian, hmu, lmao. I would much rather have someone to run it by if I can!
Ah, yes... I mentioned it before, but I think it's important for close Readers to realize how dependent the two are on physicality to express themselves. Spencer should probably work on that, huh... ? Wonder why he's doing that...
I fear I have nothing to say to this line beyond 🌝...
I'm glad to hear it didn't drag on. It certainly felt like forever writing it 😂 I've been very exhausted lately by work + social life, but I am thrilled to be back to writing this weekend.
Thank you again, friend. I look forward to hearing from you again, and I hope that you continue to enjoy yourself both in and out of my blog. You are amazing and deserve the world!
7. Awwwe, that's so kind of you to say. I'm glad to hear everyone enjoyed my version of Penelope, I'm always worried that people will disagree with my characterizations. Penelope will be back in a big way later, and I absolutely cannot wait to show you.
I think this is probably the story I reread the most. Partially because I need to remember for a scene I'm writing, and also because I'm always surprised by my own writing, lol! I never remember what I wrote!
8. Ah, you know what, I didn't have any other scenes like that planned! But now that you've pointed it out, I will add one 🤗 It suits that part of the narrative well.

Is there any way you can quickly recap Eroda? I’m lost...haven’t had time to keep up. Also, if the consensus is that it’s Harry PR driven, what’s the point? Ty for your time.
I'm not the best person to recap it cos I'm not really interested in it beyond it being A Thing Harry's Doing. Like, I'm interested in how it culminates - I can't wait! - and I'm interested in the fact that he's doing a clever online campaign and pissing off gamers. But the individual quirky clues etc don't interest me. I just want to see the short film/video/whatever it is. So this is a basic overview-
So a dude on Twitter (possibly/probably a plant) saw online tourism ads for the island of Eroda. And when he looked into it he found the island didn't exist. He wrote a Twitter thread about it that went viral. Gamers were convinced it was promo for some alternative reality game so they got really into it.
The ad itself is cheap and the voiceover is badly written and vague, and it was pretty obvious that this was a fictional location. The website for Eroda says copyright 2004 but was only registered last month. It is also cheap and badly written (purposefully, quirkily badly written. Like it's clear the copy was there to drop clues). The location photos are a composite of places in Denmark and Norway ...but mostly from a village in Scotland where Harry was seen filming.
Harry fans scoured the website for clues such as mentions of streets called "Golden" and "Cherry". There was a line about the local youths having really quirky hairstyles which we'd seen on Harry's shoot. And lots of mentions of fish and fishing.
Then Visit Eroda social media sites popped up and it was clear that plants had been tweeting about it over the previous few days - weird and odd references to being stuck on the island and not being able to leave. Locals from the real village Harry filmed in were involved. There were references to Dec 12 & 13.
Of course Harries started tweeting too, so then there were hundreds of tweets and it was hard to know which had been planted. Were the Visit Eroda people playing with Harries who thought it was Harry by planting clues, or was it all a Harry campaign to begin with? This question made a lot of precious gamers very upset which is quite amusing.
Quickly people started seeing Visit Eroda ads online on their social media. This campaign clearly had money behind it. Brochures were spotted in NY. Merch went online. But then someone checked Facebook's ad tracking info (On FB you can click "why am i seeing this ad? and it tells you why you were targeted). It said it was because they'd visited Harry's website. The advertiser would have needed access to the code of hstyles.co.uk to link the ads, so the game was up. It was Harry.
And then yesterday evening (while i was in the pub) a new fake Twitter "leaked" a a DM that a "friend" sent them of a bad video from a cinema in a remote Scottish village (...which I'm pretty sure doesn't have a cinema, and anyway it looked like a screening room...) The video was supposedly of a cinema ad/trailer played before a movie. It's a clip of Harry on the island that appears to be from a short film.
So, here we are. Harry has made some sort of short film or extended music video about a boy on this weird island of Eroda, and no doubt it'll be released soon. The viral campaign is to build intrigue and I guess just do something creative, arty and unexpected to promote the album. It's pretty fuckin' cool.

Hey! I kinda stumbled into your post about The Magicians and, as someone who a) is also interested in fandom culture and b) was an active member of The Magicians fandom during its highest (and lowest) points, I thought I'd share some of the context revolving around the shipping controversy.
So, during the first two seasons, the central m/f ship clearly seems like endgame, with no big hints about the main character being anything but straight. Sure, because the protagonist's best friend is a queer man who has a crush on him, and there are the usual queerbaty lines here and there, they were a big ship among the fandom, but nothing more. Until season 3 came along, and had something of a bottle episode, where the two get stranded in the past together and are explicitly in a romantic relationship. After they return, both kinda acknowledge the fact, but The Plot comes knocking. Shippers became more numerous, and some people started speculating that they could be a viable ship, but most of the fandom took it as a nod from the writers and a self-contained story that wouldn't come back.
All the while, the show's social media accounts hyped up this pairing more than any other, and made frequent remarks suggesting more canon recognition. Virtually every week you'd find a tweet, a poster, and so on, that egged people on. And by this point, the showrunners had the audience's trust due to their handling of other topics. There were more POC than usual for TV, the main character's chronic depression was an ongoing struggle, things like addiction and trauma were handled in believable ways. By having a self-described "depressed supernerd", who is comfortable with being bi/ pan, and storylines that catered to a queer neurodivergent audience, during three years they grew and grew in popularity and as a safe space for exactly these groups. I was one of those: I'm a historian, and pretty used to consuming media critically; I wasn't a teenager who's never seen herself represented, but an adult who got used to looking for good representation when I want to find it, or just watching things with no expectations for the fun of it, and at most dissecting the "what ifs". This show stroke me as the former, and became the relaxing and understanding queer space I ran into after a very long week. And there were A LOT of people in a similar situation.
Then came Season 4, and that's when things got tricky. Because you see, for three years they told us this show was clever, and it turned out to actually be; that this was a subversive and complex story being told in an absurdist way, and all that came to fruition. So when, with this season, there was both a flashback confirming that the main character wanted to persue a romantic relationship with his best friend, like in the past, but got turned down, and a very final break up between him and the girl who seemed like endgame for the first seasons, shipping went from "cool but unlikely pairing" to "damn, that's a great subversion of queerbaiting!". And their social media, trailers, released images and so on confirmed that to the audience (the tweet I recall better had the main m/f pairing, with a closed book, and was captioned with something on the lines of "a chapter ends so that another can begin"). The protagonist spent the entire season trying to rescue the guy he'd confessed feelings for. In a moment where they'd have to establish his identity, the frase said by said guy was the same reference used to talk about the bottle episode multiple times before. The nature of their relationship having changed is acknowledged by another character. At the end of the day, it seemed like a clearly confirmed fact.
And that's when the protagonist dies. There's a lot more ugliness around his death and how it was handled by the script, or how the showrunners pat themselves in the back. But it suffices to say that when an audience is mostly composed of "queer depressed supernerds", killing off the person who represented how someone like this could not only survive, but thrive, is more than a little traumatic. And doing so without ever giving the oh-so-central amd hyped up m/m relationship any ending, good or bad, makes it all seem both pointless and mean spirited.
Sorry about the gigantic text; this was such a unique fandom response and situation that I'm still quite fascinated by it (something like the near perfect creation and corruption of a vulnerable community's safe space). I don't know if you care about it, but just in case this interests you as well, now you have a summary.
hi hello! first, thanks for the extremely thoughtful post, it was interesting (I don't explicitly remember what I said in my post but I very much do remember being fascinated by the fall out of what the show did at the time) (I swear I'll finish pick it from S2 one day, though I'll admit I personally found season one a bit of a slog).
I remember reading enough posts from people on here and articles on sites like io9 to agree that what they did re killing off the bipolar I believe? lead and framing it as a noble sacrifice or something was in extremely poor taste, and I sympathise(d) with all the people who could relate to him and their grief coz like you said, even from my outsider perspective it seemed very ugly on the part of the show.
as far as the ship part of the conversation goes, I'm still largely ignorant of that from a first hand experience pov. but generally speaking, for me, I was and still am fascinated by what these (often lower budget, American CW/syfy etc) shows do to kinda stoke or fan fandom expectations/wants vs what fandoms do to themselves to set themselves up for a fall (canon vs fanon basically). in other words, how much a show queerbaits its audience vs how much the audience queerbaits itself, if that makes sense. not at all saying that's what happened in your fandom, again I haven't yet seen enough of the show to form an opinion on the ship aspect, but really just generally with those kind of shows (Supernatural being the big one recently, that Roswell show, even Teen Wolf going way back).
I usually find myself coming to the conclusion that like most things it's not a black and white issue, and that there's a certain amount of "blame" for lack of a better word on both sides. but again that's usually an observation from me as like a satellite to these shows and fandoms, not really valid in many senses, just something that eases the itchy part of my brain that's super intrigued when these fandom dramas explode as they're prone to do.
but no, I deffo do care in a larger sense so thanks so much! I'll deffo save this in case I ever get around to finishing the show for myself

First of all, congrats!!:) Romantic match: Name's Teal, 27y/o into men, pale skin with freckles, short and curvy, green/blue eyes, dark blond hair. Taurus & ENFJ.I'm shy at first, but very cheerful & sweet, talkative & good listener, creative, a musician & singer. Honest & loyal, very passionate & determined. I tend to overthink & i'm a control freak. Very strong willed. I tease a lot but i get flustered very easily. Playful, but thoughtful & clever too, i love deep conversations. Thanks! :)
Ayeee let’s get this event started! Thank you so so much honey and thanks for participating in the event! I truly hope you enjoy your matches. 💕
I also want to clarify that I use this site to find OP character MBTI stuff. Now, they’re not always 100% accurate (they tried to say Shanks was an INFJ?? he is too extroverted to ever be an I) so in those cases I’ll dig a lil more, but I feel like most of them are pretty close! Just didn’t want you guys to think I know all of their MBTIs. 🥴
Your match is…
Shanks (Pisces, ENFJ)
Tumblr media
All of the stars have aligned for you two, it couldn’t be any more perfect! Being an ENFJ (like you!) and Pisces, Shanks is truly the best to compliment your Taurus self. You are an earth sign while Shanks is a water sign. Shanks tends to keep his head in the clouds, often off and dreaming, but your earthy nature helps him to keep his feet on the ground and help keep him stabilized. On the opposite side of that, Shanks always helps spark your imaginative side and he becomes a regular muse for you when the inspiration strikes. You two crave peace and harmony in your lives, especially within the relationships, and luckily you two know how and are more than willing to put in the work to create a harmonious relationship! Your relationship is founded on security, trust, and affection.
You two are eerily similar in terms of personality, but through time there are some noticeable differences. The word shy doesn’t exist in Shanks’ vocabulary. He’s extroverted all around and no one is a stranger to that man. Your initial shyness really intrigued him in the beginning, but it was that hidden lively side of yours that really won him over. As soon as you became comfortable with him and showed him how energetic you can be, he was instantly head over heels for you! He still thinks it’s adorable how your shy nature will reveal itself every now and then, and he makes sure to give you time to get comfortable, whatever the situation is. Being with Shanks has really helped you come out of your shell when it comes to new people and experiences! Shanks is a talker…especially when he’s drunk. So the fact that you are equally balanced in being a great listener and an easy person to converse with, you can hardly ever get Shanks to shut up! You two always find something to talk about, there’s hardly ever a moment of awkward silence between you two. Deep conversations with you under the stars or in your shared bed room, he could never get enough of those.
Shanks shares a love for the arts and entertainment, the only downside is he doesn’t have a lick of artistic talent in that body of his. He can’t sing, he can’t dance, he doesn’t play any instruments…but thankfully you’re there to save the day. Having you around in the crew just makes his days so much brighter and he could never get tired of hearing you sing or play! Honesty and loyalty is something you are both great at and strive for in your relationship, so there’s never really any moments of jealousy or distrust throughout your relationship. You both are very open with each other, though communication was rocky at first, but now you two have a true understanding of one another and your arguments (rare as they are) never really last long! Lots of people are envious of your easy-going relationship and how much love is shared between you two, and honestly who can blame them?
It’s not always perfect, of course. You two are both pretty stubborn and set in your ways. Shanks is very lax, in even the most trying situations, and that can be very annoying to you at times due to your need for control in all aspects of your life. He just doesn’t feel the need to have control over everything like you do, and he especially doesn’t like the idea of someone trying to control him. So when you two do end up arguing, it’s almost always over Shanks’ reaction to something, or lack thereof, or your need for control. You two seek peace so much that you end up avoiding confrontation most of the time, leading to bouts of silent treatment. Thankfully though, you two can’t stay mad at each other long and are mature enough to know that some days are gonna be exhausting and troublesome. You two know that you just gotta push through because in the end, flaws and all, Shanks accepts you for who you are and loves you all the same; and same goes for you with him! Shanks knows what it’s like to overthink, no matter how confident of a guy he seems. He has his own insecurities and worries that tend to show every now and then. He’s very empathetic towards you when you’re having bad days, and he knows all the ways to help cheer you up.
The two of you sharing a playful nature helps to keep your relationship exciting and lively. There is never a dull moment when you two are around each other. He could never ever get enough of teasing you and making you all blushy. It’s one of his favorite looks on you! Tease him all you want, he takes it all easily as long as you’re having fun. Shanks is overall just easy-going and fun-loving. The fact that he gets to be his true, authentic self with you, and that you reciprocate, it really means the world to him. He values your relationship and happiness with his life!
As for appearance, Shanks is an absolute sucker for your short and curvy stature. Not only does it bless him with opportunity for endless short jokes and calling you adorable nicknames like “shortcake”, but he just loves the feeling of your small hands in his and the way you fit so perfectly in his lap or against his chest when he’s cuddling you. You being on the shorter side makes him ultimately a little more protective of you, but it’s all in good nature. If you prove you’re plenty capable of handling your own, then he’ll know to back off. If the short jokes are a problem, he’ll try his best to avoid them. He loves to kiss at your freckles, making sure to count each one of them and not leaving a single bit of you unkissed! They’re a very endearing quality about you, and the way they make your eyes pop just has his heart melting nearly every time. Affection is obviously a key part of your relationship. Shanks is very handsy, his love language is physical touch! So don’t be surprised by random kisses, hugs, and other forms of affection throughout the day. Shanks is absolutely crazy for you; personality, looks, and all, and he is never afraid to show it!
Other potential suitors:
Rosinante (Cancer, INFP) - Cancers are another great match for you as you both are very sensitive and affectionate. Rosi is a bit more introverted, but he really admires your extroversion and liveliness. Only you can bring him out of that awkward shell of his. Rosi isn’t much of a talker, so he shares the quality of being a good listener with you. He values self-expression and adores your artistic side. Rosi is a bit more relaxed when it comes to your controlling nature as he just naturally bends to you and your desires. He definitely has a bit of a childish side to him, so being able to embrace that with you in the relationship really warms his heart! Also, he honestly can’t get enough of how cute you are, so small against his massive stature!
Mihawk (Pisces, ISTP) - Mihawk needs a bit of sunshine in his life, whether he likes to admit that or not, so your sweet and cheerful nature is very welcomed in his lonesome life. He’s not really a people person, so he doesn’t mind you being more outgoing than him. You can talk to people for him, that’s always a plus. He just prefers personal time with you and only you. Both of you have a bit of a controlling nature so it makes you butt heads at times, but thankfully you two can meet in the middle when necessary. Mihawk also adores your creativity and embraces all your talents, constantly encouraging and inspiring you to keep at it! Listening to you play or sing in that big empty castle always puts a smile on his face. Your company just makes the days so much better!
X Drake (Scorpio, ISTP) - This one is a bit of a wild card. Quite frankly, you two don’t have a whole lot in common, but that’s what makes your relationship so exciting and worthwhile. Introducing each other to new things is one of your favorite things to do together, and there’s almost always something to do together. Drake can be aloof at times; a bit private when it comes to work and other affairs, which makes honesty and loyalty from him a bit questionable at times. But! Drake loves you and he never ceases in proving so through his actions. Much like Shanks, he’s mature enough to know that not every day is going to be perfect, so he has to put in work to get through the rough days. Once you two get past this phase, it’s smooth sailing from there!

(part 1) im gonna preface by saying sorry if you've answered this before or it's obvious, but I wanted your opinion on something. I can't really read Misha at all when it comes to Destiel. I wanted to know if you think Misha plays Cas as being in love with Dean? Do you think Misha sees that relationship or is too in the moment to view it the way we do (similar to Jensen). I'm asking because I know he has gotten questions about it before and something that is obvious 9/10 times when he answers...
(part 2) is that he turns it into something sexual. I know he obviously wont say either way whether for higher up backlash or simply because he’s Misha, but I never got if that is just his wink wink to the fans because he’s supportive of our beliefs or he thinks that we only see sex so he’s like yeah perverts. He genuinely seems insightful at times and I do love the way he has described their relationship on several occasions. i know a few years ago there was a moment where, if i remember…
(part 3) correctly might have been one of the only times he answered without really joking? he seemed incredibly in tune with the audience talking about it but there seemed to be a sad/awkward air to his words. most of the things i have seen are from a few years ago though (pre-season 11) and we have gotten some incredibly deep destiel scenes since then so I guess im asking if you think he sees it, if so, when he might have started, if he thinks it now, if he thinks its just sexual, ect. thanks!“
Hi Nonnie,
First off, it sounds like you actually know a whole heck of a lot about Misha’s take on Destiel so I’m flattered that you would ask for my opinion on it too. I haven’t formulated a whole post about it, though I have reblogged and commented on some really great ones that I will also link you to here.
I think it’s important to distinguish between Misha’s take on whether it is an intentional part of the show (do the writers write it that way? do he and Jensen play it that way?) vs. his response to fanfic and fandom commentary on Destiel. About the second, he tends to wear his snarky persona and call us perverts and joke about how “me and Jensen write most of that stuff anyway.” That’s easier. It’s a deflection. If faced with a question about intentionality and whether he thinks that the show has been amping up the romance tropes, it’s far safer to instead talk about the fan response and how “I would never have imagined seeing myself depicted giving so many blowjobs.” How much Cas fanart have you looked up Misha? FFS!
So when, as you say, he immediately jumps to making things sexual I don’t at all think that it’s because he thinks that accurately reflects the way the character is written or how he plays him. After all, as recently as S10 he had Cas stare at a porn site and say, bemusedly, “What is ‘Fortune Nookie’?” (10x03). In 13x21 Cas was obviously embarrassed both by and about Gabriel and Rowena. And, as we learned from S12, the sacred oath that forbids human-angel sex must be very much on his mind. Now, some of us are of the opinion that this season in particular has been revealing Cas to have some understanding of or interest in sex even as an angel but YMMV on that one. But it’s safe to say that no matter how many jokes Misha makes about Cas being a creeper and perving on Dean he knows that that isn’t in the show. He’s responding to a particular, over-exaggerated fan version of Destiel. And he’s doing it because it’s safe.
It’s actually Misha’s standard deflection now because, in my opinion, not only do they want to avoid pissing people off but they are all bound by NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) of some kind when it comes to the actual show…but not when it comes to the fans. So he can say whatever he likes about fanfic or fanart or “what goes on on oil rigs” and neither risk offending people as deeply (since he’s clearly joking around) nor violating any contracts. I don’t know if he really thinks that all fanworks are all about sex. I think….perhaps. And, honestly, given the kinds of things people bring to cons for them to sign I can’t blame him. The linked post also shows how totally ok both he and Jensen are with smutty fanart, as does the infamous Cockles video that I’m adding here because, well, why not:
youtube
If you can’t hear the audio it’s Jensen describing two different pieces of fanart that they signed, one of which they drew penises on the other of which was already nsfw that he captioned, and laughing about it and draping himself all over Misha ew.
But back to your original question, which was whether Misha plays Cas as being in love with Dean or sees that relationship as inherently romantic. I’m actually just going to flat out answer: he does. Misha is an intelligent and sensitive reader (which is not to say the other actors, especially Jensen, are not but that Misha approaches the script as a reader in a way I don’t think Jensen does because his process is so different). I believe Misha has always seen that in the character. As @amwritingmeta discusses in this epic post on Jensen, Destiel, and Dean’s bisexuality:
“Misha started out talking rather openly about how Destiel is an intentional part of the narrative - almost going so far as to get pissy about how this was even a question, if rumours are to be believed - then less openly, until he, as early as last year, was scuttling around the Destiel question like it was on fire. Why? I would venture a complete guess and say that it’s most likely to do with all the negativity thrown his way whenever he’s engaged with it, accusations of queerbaiting flying at him and the show, when this couldn’t be farther away from what they’ve actually been doing all these years, delivering a narrative the likes of which has never been seen on television before.”
Comments he made about his initial decisions, staring at Jensen “as if I was looking into his soul”, and the teasing that he garnered, “We’re missing the gay angel,” indicate that he–and Jensen, fwiw–were fully aware of the homoerotic aspects of the character and his portrayal.
I think that the convention clip you’re thinking of might be this one from NJcon 2013 where Misha first says that he ought not to talk about it but then goes on to say that there is a “very profound bond” but that “I will leave you to read into that what you will” and remarks that he doesn’t want to be accused of queerbaiting, which he felt was unfair because he is such a supporter for the LGBTQ community overall. He’s absolutely sad there. He concludes by saying “It’s a lot of things. It’s deep and meaningful, you know. Is it love? Probably. What does that mean? It’s a million different things. I don’t know” which then becomes a joke about “you know, my boyfriend is a wavelength of celestial intent.” He ends by saying outright that “They love each other” before adding “but it’s purely sexual.” That backtracking is frustrating but totally characteristic because otherwise it’s just too definitive. (I’m gonna keep my tinhat in the closet on this one but I can’t help but murmur about actor bleed.)
By 2016, at DCcon, he was delighted to get out of the Destiel question by having West throw balls at him. He talks about how he was discouraged from even mentioning that relationship when he came on the show and how he then flouted that rule because he didn’t see the point. The implication, though, is that he now does see why he shouldn’t discuss it and I can only imagine that a lot of it has to do with the vitriol that often came his way. Most of his answer is a joke on this panel, “How would you approach it if it happened” becomes “face-forward” and “How would you set the scene” becomes a seduction joke. Rich and Rob are there to help out and keep the carnival atmosphere going. (Cockles sidebar: I had never noticed that he answers the question of “How would you set the scene” with “In another language; in Russian.” CAN YOU SAY ACCENT KINK??) That’s a huge difference from 2013′s serious answer, though it’s not easy to tell whether that change is due to something contractural about the show or Misha’s own desire to avoid upset. I kind of think the second.
His most recent comments are from Seacon 2018 where he says that he could “go on and on and on” with his thoughts about Destiel and that he and Jensen do have conversations about it. He again uses it as an opportunity to talk about the fandom response and reflect on changes in attitude within the fandom not on the show…which is interesting, of course, but not really what we are fishing for. As he says at the end he gets in trouble with someone no matter what he says on the topic. And then he will deflect with a joke (”Jensen and I don’t write a ton of Destiel fanfic”) before giving us a tiny glimmer of hope (”because we live it all the time”). The whole cast is certainly much more open about it than they used to be, even Jensen. And I’m not sure whether or not that can be attributed to the deeper Destiel scenes you mention or not. I do think it would become much harder for them to deny the existence of a romantic element and that the way they are coping with that is pure humor.
I hope that helps a little. It’s a very complex question, since it’s bound up with so many other things about the show and about Misha’s character and his relationship to the fans. (I have tags for both “misha and destiel” and “misha about destiel” if you want more.) I agree with you that he is the most in tune with the fan view of the relationship and supportive of it as an interpretation. I think he’s either not legally able to say more about it or, perhaps, is too conditioned not to by previous negative reactions from the fans. His jokes that make it sexual, or refer to fandom and not the show, are simply a clever deflection and one which he does much better than either Jared or Jensen (though Jensen has learned from Misha and gotten markedly less defensive in general, e.g. “There will now be fanfiction written about what goes on on oil rigs” “Don’t let us down”).
My gut feeling is that, yes, Misha has seen the romantic element since Day 1 and that lines like “I love you. I love all of you” and “I know who you love” confirm for him that it is there for Cas. I think that he supports that reading of their relationship but we will likely never get to hear him say that…unless something miraculous happens on the show so that he feels free to.

Are These The Reasons I'm Not Dating?
I have given up on dating, or perhaps dating has given up on me. Either way, I haven’t had a date in a while, and I’m fine with that (then why are you writing this, Al?). Good question. Something happened recently that left me wondering, is it me, or is it them? Of course, there are a couple of good reasons that it’s me. First off, I don’t care if I date. I have resigned myself to the fact that if I die alone (not totally alone; I do have family and friends), in an empty bed, I can live (die?) with that. Reason one: apathy. Also, dating is hard. It’s not ‘lugging wet bags of cement up to the roof of my house’ hard, but anyone who has ever been in my position knows what I mean. When I first separated (then divorced) my wife, I went on a lot of dates; almost every night. It was exhausting and expensive. Let me clarify one thing: going out on a lot of dates, and getting laid, are two totally different things (at least, in my case they were). When I say dates, these were Groundhog’s Day dates where I repeated the same lines every night. The only difference was the audience of one to whom I delivered those lines.
I can’t blame the audience for this. To them, I was their audience of one. A new face listening to the same old script. If you ever used a dating site, you know what I mean. Night after night, I said the same thing, and I heard the same thing. But, it was a necessary evil; you have to ask questions in order to get to know someone. However, there are just so many questions you can ask a stranger. It may not sound like it, but it is hard work, and I just don’t want to do that anymore. Reason two: Laziness. I’m lazy.
One thing I had in my favor on those dating sites was that before I actually spoke to a person, I could write to them. That’s where I felt I had a little advantage; I could always write well. I could get people to laugh online (before they had a chance to laugh in my face). But I came to find this could also be a determent. This first occurred very early on in my online dating experience.
During an ongoing email dialogue with a woman, while we handed out bits and pieces of our lives to each other, she mentioned that she was a Sagittarius. I innocently wrote back, “Oh, that’s too bad because I could never date anyone who is a Sagittarius because my ex-wife is a Sagittarius and I’m afraid it simply wouldn’t work out.”
I laughed, and hit send.
What I received in return was a scathing two-page email addressing that specific comment. Let me summarize those two pages for you. She said, “You’re an asshole”.
It was a joke. I have never been in a position to exclude any potential women from dating me. I was being sarcastic.
And that was the problem; sarcasm does not translate to the written page. Especially not with someone I had not officially met and who had no idea that I was not, in fact, an asshole (in my opinion, at least).
This was before the age of LOL. In fact, I don’t think LOL would have even helped. The wisdom of hindsight tells me it was a stupid thing to write to someone that didn’t know me. But I do know one thing that would have helped me with this awkward communication faux pas:
It has been said before, and I’ll say it again, but what the world really needs is a sarcastic font.
I vote for Comic Sans for no other reason that it has ‘comic’ right there in the name.
A few weeks ago I met a woman where I work. Not an employee, someone who had been in the building just for the day. We had a short conversation, and after we were done, I walked away and started a conversation with a friend of mine. In that conversation, I made a joke. Behind me, I could hear the woman I just met laugh. OK then. I turned back to her, and we had another conversation. In a short time after that, I went back to my desk. It was while at my desk that I debated about going back to give her my card for my website. She would be out of the building by three that afternoon. For two hours I debated whether or not to give her the card (yes, two hours to decide whether or not to hand someone a card). Finally, I went back, handed her the card, and mumbled something about ‘just thought if you want something to read’ (like suddenly there was a shortage of reading material on the internet).
A few days later I read an email she sent. It was funny and clever (I do like funny and clever). In a very short while we had a nice little back-and-forth going (think His Girl Friday but with emails). Then, just as we were making arrangements for a date, her emails stopped. A follow up email on my part went unanswered, so I let it drop. But not knowing why they stopped is what drove me insane. Did I say something stupid? Was it misconstrued? Perhaps it was another incident where a sarcastic font could have saved the day.
Who am I kidding, she just changed her mind. After all, my blog is named ‘Conflict and Scotch’ and not ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’. Who needs that drama? Smart woman.
Still makes me wonder why I don’t date. Is it my apathy, my laziness, or the want of a really good sarcastic font?
We may never know, but I will tell you this: The next time I meet a woman that shows even the slightest interest in me, I won’t give up. I will never say anything remotely sarcastic; I will be at her beck and call every moment of every day, and will change every single thing about myself to make sure I am the person that she wants me to be. I swear.
That is so Comic Sans.
