WLWMEME: 5/9 tv characters ♡ theo crain (the haunting of hill house)
See, when I was little, I was afraid of a lot of things. I didn't have to be, though. They were all in my head. I just didn't know that yet. But when I was scared, I would imagine myself building a big wall all around me made of the strongest bricks in the whole world. And when I got scared, I would imagine myself putting another one on, one after the other until that wall was so thick and so strong. I knew I'd be safe in there forever. And that's what you do too, right? It's okay. It's good. 'Cause kids like us have been through more than other kids. We're tougher than other kids. We're great builders. We make ourselves really safe. And no one ever gets in.

hi mike, saw someone say your ask box was open and i came running! have you ever had any ideas as to how the crain family would be getting on now a few years later/what they're doing? it's always in the back of my mind wondering if creators also wonder about those sort of things themselves once their project has ended. thanks so much & hope you have a great day!
I do think about that. Quite a lot, actually.
The Crains took on lives of their own for me. I'd never written long form before, so it was the first time I lived with the same characters for that long, and for such extended arcs. Here's where I think they are, a few years later:
Shirley: I think that Shirley and her husband overcame her disclosure of infidelity. She'd been closed off for so long, after the series ended I think she found some peace in her life and opened herself up to her marriage. I think she also began to find kindness again. They ran the funeral home together, but Shirley found purpose in helping people handle grief and loss with empathy and kindness. Her oldest would be just about ready to start college now, and I think that would have her looking back and realizing that she always remembered her childhood as seemingly endless... but now she sees just how fast it truly goes by.
Luke: Luke stayed sober. He's six years into it now, and it's gone so well that he's also become a sponsor. That doesn't mean he's immune to the struggle, far from it. He still walks up to that edge sometimes. Oddly, it's in those moments that the "Twin Thing" kicks in... and he feels an inexplicable and complete sense of love. He knows that's Nell's, and that always pulls him back from the brink. He never did find Joey, or find out what happened to her. And sometimes he still wakes up with nightmares that he's on the floor of the Red Room, or that Joey visits him with her runny-egg eyes. But no matter how hard it gets, he feels what Nell feels for him... and that always pulls him through.
Theo: Theo and Trish got married, and moved far away from New England. They currently live in Portland. She still works with children, but enjoys a much smaller patient pool. She specializes in the kids who are hardest to reach, and she's sought after for her unique and uncanny ability to connect with them. She doesn't wear gloves anymore, but she still avoids the very crowded places. She and Trish take long hikes, grow their own pot, and travel frequently and spontaneously. They're considering a surrogate... and if it's a girl, they're going to name her Eleanor.
Steven: Steve and Leigh have two kids, and are thinking they might stop there. He never wrote about what happened at Hill House, but he still writes. Science fiction. Leigh recommended the genre as a way for him to focus on the future, not the past. He likes it a lot. It's pulpy, but it's earnest. He maintains Hill House, as it is his responsibility, but he doesn't enter the property beyond the gates. He has a rotating collection of people service the property itself, always during the day, and only for a few hours at a time.
Hill House stands quietly and silently in the hills. There is something different about it. Still the same energy, but without the malice. Steve assumes this is because of Hugh, Nellie and Olivia, who maybe curb the most malicious energies of the house from within. While shadows still walk in the windows at night, there are no living souls there to see them. Mostly, Steven imagines the spirits inside spend most of their days sleeping. And if they cannot sleep, he imagines Mrs. Dudley singing softly to them on the wind.
There is grief, for all of them. There are nightmares. Horrible dreams of moldy rooms and phantom hands. They meet twice a year, usually without spouses, to catch up and raise a glass to Nell, and their parents. There is a lot of healing still to do, a lot of therapy, a lot of introspection. But there is peace, too. There is love. There is forgiveness.

3 names ask
10, Lyra Silvertongue, Sif, Theo Crain
netflix and chill with: I had a hard time choosing between Theo and Sif, but I'm picking Theo.
go ice-skating with: Sif! I'm not great at ice-skating but I imagine she'll hold my hand so I won't fall.
play dodgeball against: I probably won't win against any of them, so I'm choosing Lyra cause she just seems the most fun (and most safe haha) to play dodgeball with.

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE THOUGHTS
I picked up this book with a few expectations. I bought it three days ago because I was at a book store and I was intrigued. Partially because I knew there was a show, I thought I would never watch, and because I like reading horror.
I can’t watch horror for the most part but I can read which confuses most people as they think the imagination is worse than watching someone else’s interpretation. Anyway, this book has been really interesting.
And when I came to tumblr as I usually do when I finish a novel I enjoy I found myself intrigued by the commentary. I also decided that I had to watch the 1963 movie. I have seen the 1999 remake and it is actually one of the few horror movies I like. Which is apparently not common.
I bought the penguin random house copy of the book so it came with an introduction which tells you to on ignore the remake as well which I find hilarious. Back on track I want to talk about Eleanor and Theo.
I do read Theo as queer coded even if that was not the authors intent. I’m not sure whether it was or not but in the opening it states that Shirley Jackson did not like to bring sex into her books and that they believe this negates the queer theory. I don’t agree with that as sex/relationship(romantic) isn’t needed for a character or person to be queer coded.
I also think that Theo and Eleanor’s relationship has romantic aspects but I don’t think Eleanor is queer. Eleanor maybe 32 but she does not have the mind of a 32 year old. Her life has lead to that part of her not developing. She views all romance in a dream because to her it’s what happens later in life.
Like when children dream of falling love. Eleanor does not feel romantic love because her brain realizes she to fragile for it and subconsciously protects itself. Making all love dreamlike. And things that occur at the end, “Journeys end in lovers meeting”.
So if Eleanor was different and it was a different set of circumstances I could totally see them together. But Eleanor’s mental state was very fragile and I think in a way Hill House was haunting her from the time she heard about it. That it was calling, if you believe that it was another force and not Eleanor herself who manifested what happened.
Which is another interesting theory when it comes to her. Perhaps everything came from her or from something darker that tried once when she was a child and then found another way and set up the whole situation.
There’s also the story the 1999 went with where she was related to the Crains which is an interesting take.

Push (Theo Crain x Reader)
Tumblr media
smut
You’d known Theo a lot longer than any other woman in her life. For the most part, there wasn’t any romance between the two of you. Sure, you slept together and stuff, but Theo hadn’t tried to give anything more than that. In fact, if you tried to further things, she’d always push you away. It hurt, but you understood that feelings were not her thing and she held herself in a certain way.
It didn’t stop you from letting her in every single time. Most of the time, you had to wait for her to decide that she wanted you. Theo just had to get back into the mindset that you were like her, not for relationships. After she’d fooled herself like that, she came back to make a fucking fool out of you.
“It’s looking like a dry night,” Theo said as she turned her back to the dance floor once again. The two of you had come out to the club so she could try to get laid, but despite the numerous women giving Theo the stare, she wasn’t noticing. In fact, she was actively ignoring every single person in that club that tried giving her attention.
“I’m sure the four girls that you turned down are thinking the same thing,” you snorted. Theo set her drink down and reached out to touch your cheek. The gloves were a part of Theo, just as much as her skin in your eyes. She was always wearing them. It was a spectral sensitivity. At least, that was the name you’d given whatever power her mother had bestowed upon her. Maybe the reason that Theo had kept you close all these years was because instead of calling her freak or crazy when she told you about her hands, you were fascinated and did everything in your power to understand her.
“Maybe I’m looking for something more familiar,” Theo said, pushing herself closer to you. You were partially trapped against the bar, but she gave you an easy way out. If, for any reason, you didn’t want her, Theo would understand and move on once she knew you were fine. It was weird because you knew she cared about you, but she wouldn’t love you.
“At this point, you might as well just buy a bottle and come over,” you told her. She tilted her head and pulled you away from the bar. She paid for your drinks and then whisked you away out to the night air. You called the cab and she gave directions. It wasn’t often that you got to spend the night at her place, especially if Shirley was home. In fact, if Shirley was there, Theo would keep you as far away from her place as she could for as long as she could.
“I love this song,” Theo said as she hummed along to the radio. You recognized it as something that’d played at prom. You remembered that night because it’d been the first time you’d ever kissed a girl. It was the first time you’d ever kissed Theo.
“What do you think of when you hear it?” you asked her.
“I guess I think of prom night after your date left with that stupid underclassmen because she was gonna put out for him,” Theo said, disdain in her voice. You reached out to hold her hand and she let you, humming contentedly as she leaned towards you. “You were so upset and then we started dancing. I didn’t know it, but that was when I figured it out, that I liked women because I was dancing with the most beautiful one in the room.”
“Theodora Crain, are you being romantic?” you asked and Theo pushed your shoulder playfully. “I figured out that I didn’t like boys that night.”
“When I kissed you?” Theo asked and you nodded. She leaned down and pressed a tentative kiss to your lips. “It was just like that, wasn’t it?”
“The first one was. The one when our dance was over, but the ones behind the bleachers were not the same,” you said and Theo chuckled. “Still, even when you were pulling my hair a little and biting my lip because you wanted to know if it was sexy, you were more gentle than he was.”
“Here’s our stop,” Theo said, completely distancing herself from whatever thoughts were causing the soft look on her face. She opened the door and helped you out of the cab. You paid the cabbie and then followed her inside. She made sure to keep you quiet until you were inside of the house. Then, she seemed to not care how loud the two of you were.
She brought you straight back to her bedroom. There were certain things that Theo knew you loved, so she did them. She pressed you against the wall as she kissed you. She made sure to remove your clothes in a frantic manner as she led you back to her bed. She paid attention to what your body responded to with her touches and kisses. She stopped on her way between your legs to trace the intricate tattoo spanning across your hip bones.
“Y/n,” Theo said as she sat up a little bit. You propped yourself up on your elbows and looked at her.
“Is something wrong?” you asked her and she shook her head.
“Do you think I could use the strap this time?” Theo asked and you nodded. She smiled and the two of you quickly traded places. Theo was definitely a giver, but there was a rule when she topped you with the strap-on. She went first so you could make sure that you got to do something for her. You didn’t rush, but you didn’t move slowly with her. Theo was antsy to fuck you and patient wasn’t a word you’d come to associate with a horny Theodora Crain.
Any time spent between her legs was good in your eyes. It was one of the few times that you could physically show her how much you loved and appreciated her without getting pushed away. She accepted every bit of your love that way and you felt complete for a little while. You could make her feel good and forget about the hardships she’d faced for a bit.
“Y/n,” Theo moaned as your tongue found her clit. She threw her head back in pleasure when your fingers joined the mix. You started to move your tongue in more intricate patterns and her back arched. She pushed her hips up and ground herself against your tongue. You pushed with your tongue a bit more and twisted your fingers up a bit inside of her.
Her bedroom quickly filled with moaning as she inched closer and closer to cumming. As she approached her climax, you lightly used your teeth to give her that extra little push and she snapped then and there. You guided her down from her orgasm with your fingers as you sat back and watched Theo shake. She composed herself as quickly as she could and then laid you back on the bed.
“There’s almost no point in checking if you’re ready,” Theo said as she sat in between your legs. She had her hands on your thighs, rubbing ever so slowly up and down. You bit your lip as she moved closer to your center each time. Finally, you felt her middle finger barely push inside of you and she smirked. “But that doesn’t mean I won’t.”
“Fuck Theo.” Your voice was a bit gruffer than usual, but she made you that way. It was like your entire body was anticipating the pleasure that’d be making you scream out later. Theo was a show-off when it came to the bedroom. If you tried to keep yourself quiet, she’d do something that made you lose control of yourself, just a little bit.
“That, like you, comes later after I get a taste,” Theo said as she shifted backwards a bit. She leaned down and licked over your entrance. She hummed and you choked on whatever you had been planning to tell her. She teased you a bit more and then when your body was practically buzzing from excitement, she left you. You snapped out of your near-sex haze very quickly and in an almost panicked manner, scrambled to the edge of the bed to watch her. Theo wasn’t dragging anything out, but you felt like she was.
“Come on, you can’t just leave me like that,” you whined as Theo walked back over to the bed. She leaned down to kiss you and you scrambled backwards. You laid with your head against the pillows and Theo hovered above you. She grabbed your thighs and slid her hands down to your hips. She held onto your hips as she slid into you.
“I would never leave you like that.” It was a lie, Theo had done it so many times before. Some of them had been intentional, but others had not. Theo could be a tease and sometimes you got to be like her test subject when she found out about something new to try. You didn’t mind it, but you were not there for the delayed gratification phase Theo tried out. Psych majors.
Theo started slowly, but once she was sure you had adjusted well and were ready for her to give more, she sped up. Her thrusts gained more depth and there was a bit more force. Theo moved one of her hands up to cradle your head before moving to grab onto the headboard. Your arms wrapped around her neck and you went to kiss her. Normally, that wouldn’t have been acknowledged, but Theo kissed you back as she continued to fuck you. As you got closer to cumming, you dropped your arms and Theo moved her hands so they were right next to either side of your head.
Theo didn’t stay in bed with you for very long after the two of you were finished. She kept herself busy and you decided to get ready before she came back. It hurt less to be pushed away by Theo Crain when you were wearing pants. It was a lot less humiliating on your end at the very least. She seemed confused when she came back to see you getting dressed though.
“Where are you off to?” Theo asked as she set a cup of tea down on the bedside table. “Normally you want to stay.”
“Normally you push me away,” you said and Theo pulled you back over to the bed. “What’s different about tonight?”
“I’m not sober enough to push you away like an idiot,” Theo said and you rolled your eyes. “That was a very strong drink at the club.”
“Must have been some beer.” You decided to play along with her, at least for tonight. “Hopefully strong enough to last until tomorrow. I expect breakfast ma’am.”
“You can have me and pancakes, in that order,” Theo told you and you liked the sound of that. “But first, take your clothes back off and lay down with me. It’s warmer when you’re naked and I just turned the AC on.”

Reunite, Luke Crain (2)
Tumblr media
Word count: 3k~
I don't remember dressing myself in a white gown with an elegant skirt and off-the-shoulder sleeves. I don't remember having a long veil and tiara on top of my head as well as a full bouquet of flowers in my hands either. On top of that, I left my engagement ring back home in my jewelry box, and yet, it's back on my left ring finger. The last time I put it on was three years ago - why am I wearing it now?
"(Y/n)," I hear Luke's voice as someone takes my hand in theirs, bringing my attention away from my hands and attire and over to the source of the voice. Looking up to see his face, I feel the air in my throat become stuck as I take in the sight before me. I may not remember anything around me, but I certainly can’t remember the last time I saw Luke ever looking this healthy.
The dark shadows underneath his eyes are gone while a healthy glow takes over his once deathly pale skin. Staring into his eyes, I see the bright green irises I used to look into every night, and the sudden happiness that lies within them - not plagued by any bad feelings or pain. Not to mention the suit and tie he wears is unusual. Why is he wearing such clothes?
"Are you okay, dear?" He asks, breaking me out of my thoughts and bringing me back to his eyes. "You seem distressed, or unsettled," He points out, his gaze full of concern and worry.
Luke's question causes me to stutter while looking around in utter confusion. First of all, I don't know what's going on, but also, I've never heard Luke use those words. "Where... where are we, Luke?" The question finally leaves my mouth, causing him to look at me with the same bewilderment my face carries. "What's going on?" This all feels so weird.
"This is our wedding, (Y/n)," He simply explains, making me look in front of me to see an audience made up of both our families. With wide eyes, I gaze at everyone as they stare back at us with smiles; Steven, Shirley, Theo, and... Nell, but she isn't smiling. What is she doing here? She's dead!
"No, it isn't. It can't be," I respond, looking back at Luke with something similar to fear filling my veins. This isn't real - this can't be real.
Looking behind us, I recognize the front door as the one at Hill House. Scanning everything around it, I see the familiar wood and windows as well. Realizing where we are, I become even more scared. "Not here, we can't be here," I mutter, looking back at Luke as I try to pull my hand from his grasp.
My attempts turn out to be feeble, and I feel as my composure starts slipping. This is unbelievable and absolutely terrifying. Why can't I remember anything after the moment Luke and I tried to destroy the house? Why am I getting married to Luke? And why am I here?
"(Y/n)," I hear my name being said on the other side of me, causing me to turn around and see Nell now standing behind me. Within an instant, I see her hand raise just before touching my forehead, causing me to seemingly wake up.
With a large gasp, I open my eyes to see everyone around me as a dark ceiling hangs above us. Luke is the first person I see with Theo and Shirley beside him. "Oh, God, she's okay, she's okay," Luke speaks up, leaning down to push his head into my shoulder. I want to smile and hold him to me, but for some reason, I can't. I can't move at all, and trying to do so proves to be useless. I can't move my face, my hands, nothing. What the hell is wrong with me?
"We are all her family, and some of you have forgotten that," Nell's voice fills the room, causing me to look to the source of it. Somehow, Nell is standing beside the only source of light in the dark room, and her gentle eyes are trained on me. Is she talking about me?
"She went through it all as we did. She was there for Theo when she got stressed with school and had horrible cases that didn't leave her even when she got home," She says, staying in one spot as her arms rest at her sides. "She helped Shirley with Jayden and Allie anytime she needed it, and Luke," This time, she pauses, a frown taking over her lips.
"She was there for you through everything, and when she had been hurt for the last time, it was like the final nail was put in her coffin," Nell points out, lightly shaking her head. "She didn't talk like she used to, laugh like she used to. She wasn't (Y/n)," She adds, making me realize she has been talking about me this entire time.
"Please, Nell," Luke begs, looking at her with a pleading look. I feel my eyes begin to droop, but I quickly open them. Am I still dreaming?
"You were killing her, Luke," Nell tells him, still frowning. It's almost like his previous words hadn't even phased her. "She couldn't sleep without dreaming of you, she couldn't breathe without worrying about you," She adds, tilting her head to the side as her entire body sways lightly. "(Y/n) was doing all that she could for you, but she still felt guilty. Tell me," This time, she stops moving as her eyes move to Luke with an unmoving stare. "Why shouldn't I keep her here with me and mom?"
If I could, I would feel my eyes widen as fear courses through me. Nell is dead, Luke's mother is dead. What the hell does 'keep her here with me and mom' mean?
"I-I love her, Ne-Nell," Luke answers back, his body visibly shaking. It's only now that I notice his arm resting beside my head, and the nasty bleeding wound with purple veins on it. "Please, I don't want to live without her anymore- I can't," he adds, his body still shaking as if he were cold. If I could, I would be making a mad dash to get to him and rush him to a hospital, but going by the fact that I can barely keep my eyes open, all I can do is imagine myself doing so.
A few seconds pass before Nell speaks up again, this time, her voice even gentler than before. "Then show her." Nell simply whispers as I feel my body seemingly regain it's ability to move. Everything rushes to me at once with a full breath of air making its way in my lungs as well as regaining the ability to move my fingers once again. Luke's face reappears above mine soon enough as he takes my face into his hands, his touch jittery like it was moments before. Although, despite being able to faintly move my fingers, I still can't move my arms and legs.
"Luke, we have to get you both to a hospital," Steve's worried voice sounds throughout the room, but Luke just shakes his head. If I could find the strength to speak up, I would agree with Steve wholeheartedly, but I'm still trying to get out of this paralytic state. I can barely do anything at this point.
"I need to make sure she's okay, just let her be okay," Luke rambles, leaning down and nuzzling his nose against my cheek. "Please, (Y/n), just be okay. I love you," He murmurs, his face staying close to mine as his skin grows colder by the second. With all the strength I can muster, I move my head closer to his, which comes out more like a twitch, but thankfully, Luke still feels it.
"Keep- keep lo-looking at me," Luke rambles once more, pulling his head back to look at me again. Keeping my eyes locked on his, I watch as he scans my face for any sign that I can move more, and as the seconds pass, I'm able to form a full word.
"Hos... hosp... hospital," I slowly speak up, using all my strength to reach up to Luke's face. "You... need... hosp..." I continue on, feeling myself begin to fall into darkness. As exhaustion starts to take over me, I feel the hand I had successfully lifted up begin to fall, but Luke quickly catches it and places it against his scruffy face like he did the first night we saw each other after nearly half-a-decide of silence. The skin of his cheek lacks the usual warmth he has; if they don't get him to a hospital soon, he's only going to get colder.
"Please, don't go," Luke begs, his voice broken. However, I can only do the thing my body is set on.
Feeling my eyes close as well as my body relax, Nell's voice is the last thing I hear while Luke tries to shake me awake in desperation. "You both have to live, and forgive," She says just as I feel another hand run across my forehead. "Love forever, and remember I'll always be there."
The next time I open my eyes, I recognize the room I'm in as a hospital room, and upon looking around around it, I see Shirley sitting on the couch by the window. With a quick glance, it seems like it's just her, and upon seeing me awake, she quickly comes over to me.
"(Y/n)," she states my name, taking my hands lightly into hers. "Luke is okay, you're okay," Shirley informs me, but just as I go to swing my legs over the edge of the bed, she stops me. "But you have to take everything slowly."
Her words cause me to quickly look at her in confusion. "Why?" I ask, feeling fear creep into me. "Is everything okay with me? Was I hurt?"
"No, no, everything is okay," Shirley urges, giving me a small smile as she helps me to stand from the bed. "It's just that you've been out for a while. Luke has been wanting to see you, but they haven't cleared him to stand up yet."
After a few seconds, I nod and quickly swing my legs over the side of the bed to stand up, despite Shirley's previous warning. Of course, because of my stubbornness, I become dizzy the minute I stand up, but Shirley is quick to help me from falling, thankfully.
Seeing her concerned gaze, I give her an encouraging, albeit tired smile and pat her hand on my arm. "I'm okay," I assure her, turning my gaze to my hospital room's open door leading out to the hallway. "Just as long as you help me walk to Luke's room."
In response to my words, Shirley gives me a small smile before doing as I asked and helping me head out into the hall with each step I take. Thankfully, Luke's room isn't too far away as it's only down the hall, but that still doesn't make the walk any easier. My joints feel like cement and my throat and mouth feel as if I haven't had water for days. Plus, I have an IV stand beside me that I'm having to push, and I'm also dressed in a hospital gown that would be showing my backside if it weren't for Shirley holding it closed for me.
Once we're in Luke's room, my eyes instantly land on the sight of him lying in his hospital bed, his face pale and the crease of his left arm wrapped up in bandages. Theo and Steve stand around his bed, watching as I walk in before gently nudging Luke. His eyes open in response, and immediately, they land on me at the same time, making him sit up in his hospital bed. He doesn't look as bad as he did back at Hill House, but he still looks pretty rough.
"(Y/n)," he murmurs, making me smile as I walk toward him. Although, after taking a single step, the same thing that happened only seconds ago occurs once more, causing both Shirley and Steve to catch me from falling and help me walk further. Luke's face is cast with even more concern now, my name falling his lips once more in worry.
"I'm okay," I assure him, Steve's hand helping me sit down beside Luke on his bed. "I'm just tired, that's all," I add, feeling Luke's arms make their way around me and pull me close to his side. Knowing that he has to be tired as well, I try my hardest to stop him from doing so, but my pushing doesn't even phase him.
"I know two patients are not supposed to lie in the same bed, but I don't care," Luke murmurs, nuzzling his face into my neck. "I'm so glad you're okay," His words make me smile, and before I know it, I've become comfortable with my body conformed against his as our legs tangle with each other and our arms wrap around our waists. Once again, it's as if nothing ever changed between us, and we're back together with nothing in between us.
After a few seconds, I look around the room to see Luke's siblings all quietly leave the room with smiles on their faces as well, Steve being the one to usher his sisters out in a hurry. I gently laugh at the scene before looking back to Luke as he continues to stare back at me, apparently caught up in his own little world. "Luke," I whisper his name, his hazel eyes instantly darting to mine. "Do you..." I begin, becoming nervous in my words. "Do you still have your ring?"
That was the thing that set apart our engagement from many others' engagements - Luke had a ring too. Granted, it didn't have a diamond like mine. Instead, it had a simple engraving with our anniversary and initials. I had it made after he proposed as both parties having a ring is something that not everyone does (except for your basic wedding bands of course). He loved it when I gave it to him, but I always wondered if he would end up selling it for heroin.
Surprisingly, Luke nods. "Steve has it," He tells me, causing me to look at him with a questioning gaze. "I had him keep it so I wouldn't get jumped and someone would steal it," Luke further explains, although, a part of me doesn't believe him.
"You mean you gave it to Steve so you couldn't pawn it?" I ask, the words flowing from my mouth before I even think twice. There's a lot of anger I hold for Luke, and it's all steadily going away. However, there's still small sliver that remains - and rightfully so.
Despite my question being snappy, Luke merely shakes his head before giving me a small smile as his eyes go down to my lips. "No," He says, his hand resting on my waist moving to caress my cheek. "I've pawned a lot of shit, but that's the one thing I couldn't let myself do; high or sober," Luke admits, resuming eye-contact with me.
I know I shouldn't make such harsh assumptions, but I've gone through a lot with Luke because of his previous addictions. I've learned to not be naive or easily-deceived so I won't get hurt again. Unfortunately, at the same time, my heart has kind of turned to stone. Now I feel bad.
"I'm sor-" I begin to apologize; however, Luke cuts me off.
"No, no, it's okay," He whispers, his thumb gently massaging my cheek. "I know what I've put you through for the past several years, and I'm sorry," Luke admits, his voice genuine and honest. It seems like he's taking accountability for once.
A few moments of silence passes between us before I smile and lean forward to press my lips against his for the first time since we left the funeral home. Now that I think about it, I have no clue as to how many days ago that was. How long have I been asleep?
Instantly, I feel Luke kiss back with fervor, both his hands moving to grip my waist and hold me even closer to him. Meanwhile, my hands make their way onto his scruffy cheeks just as his hand was on my cheek mere seconds ago. The kiss between us is passionate and needy just as the previous one, but this one holds so much more in it. This one holds the desperation and longing that we've both suffered from, and on top of it is the rush of love we've missed as well.
Once we both need to breathe, our lips separate as heavy pants fall from our open mouths and we're left with racing hearts and a cloudiness in our brains. "I promise you," Luke begins, his voice breathless, yet husky. "I am going to finally marry you without any bullshit getting in the way for once. There's nothing that I want more in life, and I can't live without you by my side again."
Luke's confession makes my throat nearly close up while tears begin to grace my eyes. "Luke Crain," I whisper, my vision falling onto his slightly busted lower lip. If my heart were to take anymore, I don't think I would be able to survive it. "You better not mess up this time," I tell him, trying to control my voice from wavering as my eyes dart back to his. "Because I don't think I can go on without you anymore either."
Luke's face nearly lights up in response to my words, causing him to quickly reattach his lips to mine in another meaningful kiss. I can't help but smile as he does so, pushing myself closer to him in the process. Truth is: I still love Luke. However, this Luke - the Luke that's taking responsibility and accountability - is someone I never knew before, and somehow, I've already fallen in love with him all over again.

Hangover- Theo Crain
Tumblr media
Pairing: Theo Crain x Reader
Characters: Theo Crain
Warnings: N/A
Request: N/A
Word Count: 449
Author: Charlotte
It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for Theo to go out for most of a night and return stinking of alcohol. She wasn’t afraid of drinking more than her share and although sometimes it did worry you with how much she drank, you had seen that she cut down recently and was getting better. You couldn’t blame her for coming home in the early hours of the morning today or for the fact that she emptied her stomach over the bathroom floor, having missed the toilet.
There had only been a day of coming to terms with the fact that her baby sister Nellie was dead. Everyone grieved differently and Theo turned to alcohol and went out partying. She didn’t want to talk about death or her feelings, she wanted to be numb and pretend to be happy and seen as there hadn’t been anytime to rationalise her grieving process, you let her have the night.
You had barely slept, worried about her and then when she came home you were taking the roll of her nurse. You helped her into some fresh pyjamas, taking her to bed before going to clean up the bathroom and the complete mess that she had made. By the time you had disinfected every surface the morning sun was high in the sky and the day was beginning again. There was no point in going back to bed so instead made Theo some dry toast to help soak up the alcohol and grabbed some painkillers and water.
Making your way into your bedroom, you sat down on the edge of the bed, the tray of breakfast on your lap as you gently rubbed Theo’s arm to gain her attention. Theo grunted, rolling over to look at you with narrowed eyes. She still had some of her makeup on, you had struggled terribly in removing it when she returned, and her hair was still up, but now in a far messier state.
“Y/N,” she groaned. “My head hurts.”
You nodded your head. “That’s what happens when you drink too much.”
She let out another grunt, letting her head sink back into the pillow, hoping that you and her pain would disappear.
“You’re not going back to sleep yet,” you demanded. “Come on, eat something so that you can take your pain killers and hopefully it’ll help.”
Theo was reluctant but slowly sat up, taking the tray from you. She barely took one bite of the toast before she popped two of the pain killers and finished the rest of her water. It was going to be a long day but you didn’t care, you wanted to be there to support her through this trying time.

⬛ 2.2K CELEBRATION
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your family had always been your safe harbor
With so many siblings, you were barely never alone and you really liked that, the fact of always having someone you loved around
When you grow up, of course, you all get distant from each other inevitable and it makes you quite sad, to see how your siblings often prefer not to see the others
The closest to you is your twin, Steven, who never failed to call you every single day and that connection you two have is really special
When you mention the others and Steven doesn't seem so excited to see them as he always is to see you, you make sure to reprimand him
When you all arrange meetings, well, of course there are fights here and there
Sometimes, the fights get out of hand and the shouting can be heard from the outside of the apartment
And you are always there in the middle of those fights, trying to break them apart and make them see that they are siblings, they love each other and are a family
Sometimes you manage, sometimes you don't. Sometimes it ends with you crying because of the others actions and Steven taking you away by the hand because he can't stand to see you crying
When Nell dies, it's such a shock you aren't able to keep yourself together
You fall apart and Steven is there to help you pick the pieces up, gladly
At the meantime, you wondered about Luke and made it your duty to make him come home and stay with you, because you couldn't even imagine how much pain he was in
He and Nell's connection had always been beautiful and twins felt the other go, some people said
You hoped it was a lie because you would not stand that if something ever happened to Steven
Bringing Luke to stay with you turns out to be the right thing, and you really appreciate your brother's company
He, loves to have you around and just spend time with you, eating a meal or watching something on the TV
He refuses to talk about Nell. It hurts too much, and you're not going to force him if that's not what he desires
When you meet the other's for the funeral, it breaks your heart and yet sparks you with a little bit of love to see them all there
Shirley hugged you so tightly on the way in that you felt really, really good for a moment
Theo was always minding her own business around the family, but she knew you were the most sensitive of all so when you came in with tears in your eyes already, she smiled and came to pat you in the back
After the ceremony is over and you're all outside leaving, you can't stop yourself and you scream at them
So loudly and suddenly that they all stop and look at you with their foreheads frown, because you had never screamed before
You were the one who broke away the fights and the arguments, you had never before started one
But then you did, saying how much you hated the fact that they did not like to have the other around, that their stupidity had broken the family apart and when Nellie died, she had not seen them in more than three months
"And now we will never see her again" you mumbled between your tears. "So perhaps you all should stop behaving like the children you once were and accept the fact that we are a family and that is not going to change if you just stay away!"
They all just stared at you and of course, Steven was the one to approach you and hug you tightly. Luke was the next, crying and nodding because you knew he agreed to everything you had just said
The girls looked at each other for a moment, before they came to you themselves and promised to try to be better
And you smiled. You believed them.
After that things really got better, you all saw each other regularly and where there for each other, especially for Luke to help him recover from his addiction
Your family seemed somewhat whole again and whenever you were all together, without fighting, just enjoying each other's company, you would mumble to yourself
"I hope you're seeing this, Nell"
Something make you feel as if she was

Luke Crain Headcanons
Tumblr media
Request: Hi🥺I’m usually not to good about making request but I’m trying to breakout of my shell on that cause you are an amazing writer and I love everything you write!! But can I request a Luke Crain headcanon where you guys grew up together but distanced while he was in rehab but you came back together after what happened with Nellie! Thank you so much you’re an angel🥺💛
Thank you SO much @cathrinexxxv I LOVE LUKE CRAIN! Also I’m so ready to binge watch all of Bly Manor tomorrow!! <3
You and Luke first met when you were very young. As in, really really little. To this day, you’re still constantly teasing him and making him blush smile about his huge magnifying pair of glasses and his obsession with bowler hats.
You and your family used to live in the small village which was a fifteen minute walk away from the looming heights of Hill House, so when a rumour started spreading down the houses that a new family full of children were moving in for the summer, you, naturally, were intrigued.
One night, when you had heard from your mother that the new family had moved in, you sneaked out your back garden on a warm afternoon before dinner, cutting through the dark and dingy forest until you reached the outskirts of the property. Seeing a boy around your own age sitting on his own on the burnt grass, you waved to Luke from behind the branch of a nearby, crooked oak tree. He was startled, to say the least, but as he watched you hide slightly behind the bark, he was surprised to find he wasn’t scared in the slightest.
He felt as if he almost knew you already. As if this was always meant to happen, that you were meant to find each other here.
Nudging his glasses back up the bridge of the nose, he shyly waved back. Once he finally realised that you weren’t going to budge from your hiding place, nervous from the stories your neighbours had told you about this house, he decided to pick up his crayons in one fist and his paper in the other, before he sets off half stumbling, half stomping along the uneven ground towards you.
When he finally reaches the trunk, he stops and looks at you kind of funnily, tilting his head slightly before he decides the right reaction was to smile at you.
‘My name is Luke Crain. Do you want to play with me? All my siblings ignore me and they don’t want to draw with me.’
The two of you spent the rest of the afternoon huddled under the shaking leaves, sitting on the roots of the tree, Luke tracing out a picture and you giggling as you tried to bump his hand out of the way to colour it in.
From then on, the two of you were inseparable. Nellie loved you of course, and saw you as her honorary best friend as well, as did the rest of the siblings (even though Shirley would never admit it, and Theo was too stubborn to), which meant constant sleepovers at Hill House.
Hugh would always chuckle and shake his head when he peeked into Luke and Nellie’s room, seeing Nell asleep on a red bean bag with a half open bag of sweets lying deserted by her feet, and you and Luke sprawled out on the mat by the iron railings of his bed, snoring.
You were also the only one he allowed up into his treehouse. Although, sometimes he was too embarrassed to let you, or his siblings, in, because he had stuck pictures up on the wall of the drawings he had tried to do of you.
Growing up with Luke also meant having to calm him down after he starts seeing the tall, floating ghost. Sometimes you would try to climb up the ivy outside of his bedroom window, only to topple into the house headfirst when you start to hear Luke’s high pitched screaming coming from under his bed. Although Olivia would come running in, she would always end up comforting sobbing Nellie, as Luke would only grab onto you, the two of you sitting on the edge of his bed as you remind him the rule.
‘Breathe in and out Luke, that’s it. In and out, seven times - that’s what keeps you safe.’
‘Eight’, he would say with a trembling breath. ‘Eight times. You’re my family too.’
The two of you were gutted when Luke had to move away, but your parents could already see how close the two of you were, and so decided that a move away and a new school for you, perhaps, wasn’t the worst idea. Especially, they decided, since you had been there that night as well.
Although the two of you were close for the whole of your childhood, it takes Luke until he’s eighteen years old to realise just how long he’s really been in love with you. It takes some nudging on from Nellie, pointing out how you would run up to his locker during breaks between classes and just fill him in on how your day was going - each break, no matter how long it had been, without fail. Luke was the only person you wanted to talk to, and from the look of pure delight on Luke’s face as he leans against his locker door and gives his full, undivided attention to you, you’re the only person he wants to listen to.
Or how, Nellie would continue, you would come round to their house for dinner, and although Aunt Janet tried to separate the two of you by sitting you opposite each other, you would just spend the whole dinner ignoring whatever Theo was talking about and giving each other funny looks as you kicked each other in the shin.
Or, when the two of you got a bit older, and you would sneak out of your dorm to visit him in the middle of the night, throwing little rocks at his window until his curtains would rustle and the window latch would be thrown open, his grinning face peering down at you. Despite having spent the whole weekend together, reading to each other in the town’s local library, or just lying shoulder to shoulder watching movies, the two of you would sit out in his garden, on the dewy grass, constantly craving each other’s company. You made him blush one night, when you suddenly grabbed his hand and intertwined his growing fingers over your smaller ones, pointing up at the moon, and the glowing stars, not realising the little side eye, euphoric look he would give you.
That’s when he finally realised how immensely, and terrifyingly in love with you he was.
It scared him, to realise this, but deep down he knew it had always been you.
He has so many nightmares though. So many nights are spent with his head lying heavy in your lap, as you brush through his golden hair, trying to shush him and calm him down, or rocking him as he cries into your shoulder because of the nightmares he has about his mother, or about Abigail.
As the two of you start to escape your teenage years, and the wishful chasing after each other that came with it, your relationship becomes slightly more strained when he starts using. You choose to move in with Nellie for a while, once he finally goes to rehab. When she gets married, and you're forced to find somewhere new to live, you think you'll never hear from the Crains again - you get the odd visit from Nell, or Theo, but they're so busy enjoying the newly wed life, or studying for their degree that it's not enough - nothing fills the hole that comes from missing Luke.
It hurts that he never comes to see you, but little did you know that he used to sit at his little beige desk every night, underneath the barred window, just staring up at the moon as he bit on the edge of his pen, a feeling of such wistfulness and loneliness and longing weighing down his chest.
He used to write you a letter, every day, just pouring out all the feelings he was too afraid to tell you, but he always crumples them up and throws them away, too scared to send them.
When Steve phones you up to tell you the news about Nellie’s passing, you told him to immediately come and pick you up.
You're terrified when you open the door and walk out into the bone chilling night to hug him, your heart thumping in your chest when he tells you about how Luke has left rehab again and is somewhere out on the streets, probably using. It breaks your heart, but you know you have to be the one to find him, to bring him back.
When you reach him, and see the man you've loved since you were a child wandering, shoeless and shivering along the freezing, cracked pavement, muttering to himself, you can’t help a tear slip out as you unbuckle your seatbelt and hop out of Steve’s rental.
Luke is so terrified, he doesnt recognise you for a second. It’s only a second, though, before his eyes widen and he pounces on you, wrapping you into him so familiarly, his frame looming large above you but yet feels so fragile in your grasp as he buries his head into the side of your neck and starts crying.
‘I’m so, so cold, Y/n, and my arms are s-s-so stiff, and I’m s-so sorry, I’m so sorry-’
You can’t bear to tell him the news, so you just hold the nape of his neck and pull him tight against your chest, hating the way his whole body shakes in your hold.
On the day of Nell’s funeral, he doesn't leave your side once - it’s as if the two of you had never been separated at all. As everyone files in through the main door, ignoring the sour face on Shirley as they wander into the reception area, you and Luke just sit knee to knee on the couch opposite the entryway.
‘I tried to write to you,’ he starts, as he fumbles a cigarette from out of his breast pocket and tucks it away behind his ear, trying to busy himself with anything so he doesn’t have to meet your confused eyes, and so you don’t have to see the guilt ridden in his. ‘I want you to know that. Nellie kept on telling me off, but i just didn't know how to say what i needed to say to you.’
‘Luke, its okay, i understand how difficult it was for you-’
‘No-no, Y/n, no more excuses! You mean so much to me and i- i cant... i can't lose anyone else. Just-’
He's so gentle when he finally reaches over and kisses you, trying to shake off his fear and just show you what he meant instead. His suit rumples against your chest as he smooshes himself against you, cupping your cheeks softly with his large hands as he tilts you to the side to meet him in a needy, a desperate, a long anticipated kiss.
He doesn’t pull away - he can't - until you finally break for air, and only then does he finally concede and places his forehead against yours with a soft thud, just closing his eyes in both agony and bliss.
‘I’m sorry that took me so long to do.’
‘It was worth the wait. Although, I have to be honest, your timing has always been rubbish.’
He chuckles, his deep voice vibrating against your chest as he rests his head on your shoulder like a lost puppy, gazing up at you with those wide, lost eyes, and for the first time you can finally see the adoration and awe and just pure love that’s always been in them.
For the rest of the reception. before he tells you of his plans to go back and burn Hill House to the ground, is spent with the two of you escaping from his siblings by stepping outside and sitting on Shirley’s porch. Your arms stay linked tightly together, as if afraid to let go again, and his coat is wrapped around both of your shoulders as he rests against you, just content to be surrounded by your presence.

Hi Sam! ☺️could you do headcanons for dating Theo Crain from hill house?
DATING THEO:
Tumblr media
You and Theo met through work
You admired her for the longest time because of how smart she was and how good she was at her job
It was obvious you and Theo were attracted to one another after spending so much time together, but neither of you made a move for the longest time
Theo knew you wanted a relationship, and she didn’t feel ready for that
The two of you also resisted just hooking up because both of you knew it would affect your relationship with one another
Finally, after a while, Theo casually asked you out for drinks
Neither of you knew how the night was gonna go, but it had gotten to a point where you couldn’t ignore your attraction to one another any longer
You ended up kissing Theo on impulse, which took Theo by surprise since she’s usually used to making the first move
You ended up spending the night together, and finally, you had to have a serious conversation about what the two of you wanted
It was a lot, considering the two of you weren’t even officially dating yet, but Theo really liked you, and she didn’t want to mess it up
The two of you start out tentatively dating, but staying professional at work
You’d go out for dinner or drinks afterwards, and you’d spend time at Theo’s place
Or sometimes the two of you will go out dancing just to unwind and have a good time
You become acquainted with Shirley pretty quickly, obviously, and she picks up on how Theo seems serious about you, seeing as Shirley’s used to people coming and going
“So... I’ve seen y/n around a couple times. What’s going on there?” “We’re taking things day by day.”
Theo isn’t that affectionate in public, but she’s all over you when it’s just the two of you
She’s usually the big spoon, and loves holding you in her arms
You’re both great listeners, given you jobs, so it’s nice to be able to talk to one another and get each other’s advice
Although sometimes it can be a bit frustrating when Theo’s unable to turn off the therapist side of her and ends up psychoanalysing you
Plus, with her abilities, she always knows how you’re truly feeling
It can make arguments pretty intense since the both of you know one another at such a deep level
But you and Theo are good at taking a step back and taking a breath, and coming together to talk things through when things get rough
Being there for Theo when Nell dies, and that’s when she really begins to open up about her family
Initially, Theo didn’t want you to come to Nell’s funeral, but you insisted, knowing that your girlfriend can put up a front sometimes and you just want to be there for her
Sometimes, Theo feels like you’re the only person she can get vulnerable around, especially when her family starts getting on her nerves
Meeting all her siblings and Hugh, although you wish it could be under better circumstances
“Your family seems nice.” “No need to be polite, y/n.” “Hey, I’m serious!”
Although she won’t show it, Theo does worry that meeting her family and knowing about her history with Hill House will scare you off
But you make sure to let her know that’s not the case
“I’m always here for you, you know that, right?”

Family (Theo Crain x Reader)
Tumblr media
Relationships had never been your strong suit. If you found a good one, you managed to fuck it up by the time you met the family. Theo was different. Theo was a bit fucked up too, but eventually the two of you had figured out enough to be together. You loved her and she loved you, something that shouldn’t have been too hard for either of you. Now, you were getting to the hard part, meeting the family. You hadn’t really met any of them before, so you were terrified about this. No matter how much Theo had assured you that it’d be absolutely fine.
“They’re here,” Theo said, turning to you excitedly. “They’re going to love you, especially once they see this wonderful meal you’ve made.”
“I’m a chef at a restaurant, if I couldn’t cook, I think my business would be in the hole,” you said with a small chuckle.
“Hot, can cook, and has a sense of humor. Get me a ring,” Theo said, leaning in to kiss you. You could have stood there kissing her for hours, but the doorbell rang and Theo was over there instantly. She got the door and you could hear her chatting with somebody for a bit about something before she came into the kitchen with a man. “This is my brother Luke. Luke, this is my girlfriend, Y/n.”
“Nice to meet you,” Luke said, offering his hand for you to shake.
“Likewise,” you said, shaking his hand. Theo dropped a couple of seeds for a conversation between the two of you to sprout and luckily for everybody, they did. You had a lot in common with Luke, both of you had been troubled at one point and lost somebody significantly close to you. By the time that Steve and Shirley got to Theo’s, you had begun a friendship with Luke. “Excuse me for a moment.”
“No problem,” Luke said, sitting back on the couch. You ran into the kitchen with Theo, who was leaning against the counter with a glass of wine in her hand. She opened her arms and you walked right into them, letting her hold you tightly.
“You two seem to be getting along,” Theo noted. You nodded and she kissed your temple. “Everybody is going to love you.”
“Hopefully,” you mumbled against her chest. Theo sighed and rubbed your back soothingly. She pushed you away at the sound of the doorbell ringing. You let her go get it, getting yourself something to drink. You were careful to grab a nonalcoholic beer instead of an alcoholic one. You joined Theo and Luke in the living room, immediately attaching yourself to Theo’s side.
“Hi, I’m Steve.” You shook Steve’s hand and introduced yourself. There wasn’t as much for you and Steve to talk about, but he seemed nice enough. Theo had expected as much and kept you more towards Luke until Shirley arrived.
“So, Y/n, Theo hasn’t told us anything about you. What do you do?” Shirley asked, keeping her tone light.
“I’m the assistant head chef at this new restaurant downtown,” you said and Theo began to brag on you. The entire time, you were blushing and trying to hide yourself behind her.
“All this food talk is making me hungry, let’s eat!” Theo said, trying to hide her nerves. You set up everything at the table and got everyone sat down. You took the brief grilling from Steve and the more polite grilling from Shirley, who you feared more than anybody else at the table, and then Theo directed their attentions elsewhere. Steve left first, something about a book signing. Shirley left after she’d helped clean up and got an invitation to come into the restaurant and get a free meal on you. Luke was the last to leave and you had walked out with him while Theo started getting ready for bed.
“It was nice meeting you Luke,” you said, shaking his hand. He took your hand and pulled you into a hug.
“I can tell that I don’t have to tell you to take care of her. Thank you for making her happy,” Luke whispered in your ear before he let you go. You smiled at him and nodded. “I guess I’ll be seeing you around.”
“Definitely, stop by the restaurant sometime. Or here, normally one of us is home sometime,” you said and Luke nodded, letting out a little laugh. You watched him drive away and then went back inside. You got ready for bed as well and then joined Theo. “I think they liked me.”
“Definitely, I think you got a new best friend,” Theo said and you raised an eyebrow at her. “Luke, it’s nice to see you two getting along so well. You might want to butter Steve up a bit though.”
“He’ll see how much I love you and come around to me,” you said, leaning in for a kiss. Theo kissed you and you pulled her onto your lap. The two of you laid back on the bed and fell asleep with your limbs tangled together. You felt safe and happy with Theo, knowing that you had a family once again.

This is What Love Feels Like
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Prompt: Person A lightly kissing Person B’s forehead as B falls asleep on A’s shoulder
I hope you guys like this short little imagine with Theo!
Words: 220
Theodora Crain had never fallen in love. She didn’t know what it was supposed to look or feel like, but all of that changed once she met you.
When she saw you that night in the club, it wasn’t supposed to turn into this. It was only supposed to be a simple one-night thing, but here you are curled into her side, sitting on the couch with the rest of the Crain children around the two of you.
It was late into the night and all of the children of the family have been tucked into bed leaving Shirley, Nell, Luke, Steven, and their significant others in the living room talking in front of the fireplace. Theo’s arm is wrapped around you as you lean your head on her shoulder. The conversation reaches a point where it has come to a loll and your eyes grow heavier.
You try to keep up with the conversation Theo, Nell, and Shirley are having, but before you know it you doze off, comfortably situated in your lover’s embrace.
Shirley looks at you and Theo and smiles softly. Theo gives her a confused look and Nell gestures to you sleeping on her shoulder.
Theo looks down at you and smiles before kissing your forehead.
She thinks to herself, ‘This is what love feels like.’
