Okay, so I just finished my first watch of s2 of 9-1-1, and here are my overall thoughts:
- So Abby just completely disappeared? No decency to tell Buck they were over? No wonder I’d never really heard about her.
- I’ve only known Eddie for one season but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone and then myself.
- Guys, when I’d heard about the Buck and Eddie ship, I’d expected subtle queer coding, not blatant flirting…? The times they interacted this season were charged with sexual energy, what do you MEAN some people don’t see it?? I guess if you see that shit for seasons and then nothing ever happens about it, I can see why people would complain of blatant queerbaiting.
- in kind of the same point as the last… Buck and Eddie don’t really seem like best friends yet (because their interactions are few and far between, and when they do interact, it’s laden with sexual tension), but I ADORE how much Buck already seems to care for Christopher. I know there is much more to come, but it’s cute seeing them in the early days.
- The threads for Buck’s bisexuality have been there from the beginning btw, said as someone who knows very little about what the plans were. If the intention was to have Buck be a straight man, they maybe shouldn’t have had him connect with basically every gay person he meets & then stare at boys like that.
- The character development happening with every single one of the characters is soooo satisfying. This show is addictive. My fav character is definitely still Buck, but Hen is a very close second.
- I love Maddie so much, and her story is very heartbreaking. Mildly triggering, tbh, but important.
I definitely liked this season better. The character dynamics are more natural now, storylines are getting more satisfying conclusions (though I would still love more of the stuff they mention off screen to happen ON screen), and because the season was so much longer, there were episodes that were dedicated to the backstories of the characters…which helped me connect more with them. I love every character in the 118 and I’m nervous about what’s coming (bc I know the tsunami is coming 👀)
Okay thanks for sticking with me. More later :)

Late seasons dean would soooo spank the hell out of early seasons sam. They'd be soo ruthless to each other but dean would have the upper hand and will put bitchy lil early seasons sammy in his place. He would have no patience for sam's brattiness and sam would be so rude to him and so angry at his overbearing dominance. It would be one delicious horrible interaction

The ones I sent earlier I more or leas grouped by a theme of why I hate them. But I can’t really categorize them anymore. So I bring you…
More miscellaneous She-Ra pins I found while sorting through Pinterest that made me want to die and my commentary on them. Pt. 1
Tumblr media
Idk if this is a joke about Catra hurting Adora, or a joke about Adora ‘letting’ Catra hurt her. Either way, I don’t like it. I really feel like this is another ‘Adora=Dumb’ jokes.
Tumblr media
Congratulations, you found the only four frames of Adora smiling in this scene, amongst a sea of shots of her being visibly uncomfortable. Personally, I don’t see it as a smile, more of her trying to put on a brave or determined face. But you could also easily chalk these frames up to an animation error. Not that a C//A Stan would listen. You get the idea.
Tumblr media
A lot of people say Catra is trying to make Adora jealous here. Nevermind the fact that both her and Catra are teens here, and Entrapta is in her late 20s/early 30s. Also, I find it odd how touchy Catra is and how much she manipulates Entrapta. If the ages were reversed, Catra would look like some sort of ephebophile or groomer. But Entrapta is the adult, and autistic. I’m not sure what that’s to imply. All I know is to me, it reads like a weird situation where the teen is being a predator to the adult, because the adult is autistic and therefore ‘younger’ than the teen. I’m not sure who wrote Catra and Entrapta’s interactions or if they realize how fucked up it is, least of all a show for kids. But suffice to say, I don’t like it.
Tumblr media
This one is a fun little exception. I don’t hate the meme itself. But I do hate the fact that it’s right. 2018 Sea Hawk on his own is fine, but I’ll now and forever be slightly pissed off knowing that OG Sea Hawk was a badass, and now we have an arsonist who can’t take anything seriously and who’s only motivation for anything is Mermista. I’m not saying the new SH is bad, but I am saying the OG one is a million times better for numerous reasons.
Tumblr media
Another case of sexualizing a minor. And would you look at that, it specifically says ‘small Adora’. Good God, they’re getting younger. I honestly can’t think of a better way they could indirectly say they’re doing this on purpose. It reminds me of that one episode of Helluva Boss at the summer camp, and how ‘Milard’ was being sent nudes despite people thinking it’s a tween they’re sending them to. The fact ‘Milard’ made the same meme face doesn’t help.
Wow. thay's a lot. For number 1: Adora literally looks terrified and uncomfortabe when Catra is attacking her??? She isn't thinking it's cute???
For number 2: She was smiling because she was playing along with Catra's act? You can tell that the smile is very forced, but noooo she secretly loved the dance despite the fact that she was visably uncomfortable.
For number 3: Again, like what you said this was in season 1, soooo Catra would been 17 while Entrapta was in her 30s...yikes. Also yeah Catra is wayyyy too touchy with Entrapta, like touching her hair and like leaning up against her and stuff like that...if the ages were reveresed, people wouldn't be thinking it's some cute thing
For number 4: I think this was a joke, but it still literally made me feel sick <3

I saw a really interesting mha take. (Not in a good way) The base message of it was 'bakugou telling midoriya to kill himself wasn't that big of a deal because he was 13 and 13 year olds don't understand those words have that effect'. Let's go over why this take defends bullying and actually in the end hurts bakugous character???
Most of my friends know I'm not a bakugou fan (esp early seasons) but even I can acknowledge he had a hell of a redemption. It took so damn long, and yk what? He's still a jack ass sometimes, but he's not a bully anymore. When bakugou bullied deku and told him to kill himself, he was 14 about to turn 15. How do we know this? Well! In Japan the school year starts in April! The entrance exam (which is ten months after the first episode) takes place in February. Soooo, first episode is probably early-mid April so bakugou is Abt to be 15 (April 20th). This makes Bakugou not a 13 year old (lol).
Even if he was 13, it doesn't defend his actions. Now, I've interacted with a lot of Middle schoolers, and not all of them are mean. The ones who are mean know what they are saying when they tell someone (seriously) to kill themselves. I myself was younger than the characters when I started watching MHA, and I immediately knew that was bullying. Don't use the BS of "13 (actually 14/15) year olds don't know better!" Because it makes teens that age seem stupid and honestly? It defends bullying.
Bakugou fucked up with his treatment of deku, his treatment of him was textbook bullying. And to defend that is wild. The person also in their take stated that deku recognized that what bakugou said was wrong but he understood how dangerous it was...so deku who is younger than Bakugou could understand but bakugou couldn't? Bakugous character growth is so appealing because it was a true transformation of a bully. It hurts me to watch bc it reminds me of people in my own life. It is disrespectful to the beautiful character/redemption arc to try to excuse the bullying, and it's disrespectful to victims of bullying similar to this.
I understand loving and defending a character, but you can acknowledge their wrongs while loving them. So while this person with this take obviously likes bakugou, they missed the point of him. He was a bully. He traumatized deku for life, and most likely? He can never 'fix' that, but he can regret it and grow and move on. That is who he is, so to take that away from him is to reduce him to just an entertaining jackass. Anyway, that's my rant on a take I heard! And there's more I could have said but it's already too long lol.(No disrespect or bad feelings to person who said the take)

Happy Holidays everybody! I hope everyone is having a wonderful season! Since I recently got an ask about my personal reqs for where to start with batman, as a Christmas gift to me and y'all I'm finally making a curated list of my favorite batman media! This is 100% skewed to me, it's essentially just a list of all the batman stuff I've consumed, but I might throw in a few others for folks with different tastes! Also, most of these can be found on HBOmax as of now, but I'm including links to where you can watch online where possible! See you under the cut for a very, VERY long guide! Enjoy!
TV!
Hands down, the definitive piece of batman TV is Batman: The Animated Series. Soooo much iconic batman stuff was coined in this show. Also, it has hands down the best characterization of Bruce himself imo. If you're getting into Batman due to dadfred & babybat, here's a list of standout episodes for you!
Beware the Grey Ghost: A whole episode about Bruce's childhood special interest. You even get to see actual baby Bruce!
Eternal Youth: Absolutely precious Alfred episode, with Ivy as the villain no less. Sooooo many adorable moments, like, I don't even wanna spoil it. Just watch it.
Heart of Ice: For one, an absolutely excellent episode of television, and also a tooonnn of cute Alfred and Bruce moments!! Real dad moments for sure.
Harley's Holiday: 100/10 episode in general, and full of Harley and Bruce moments!!
The Lion and the Unicorn: Another Alfred focused episode!! Bruce Dick and Al being famiwy...
I have more, but those are a good place to start. Have a fave villain? Watch all their eps!! Discover new ones! Watch it from the beginning! Watch around and see what floats your boat. There's a redesign in season 3 (The New Batman Adventures) and they bring in a littler robin, Tim Drake. Warning for TNBA in general though, they tease at some really uncomfortable relationships here and there. But overall it has a lot to offer!
After btas I started on Justice League (2001)! I super love it, I adore the other members of the league so much and there's plenty of interesting stories. Justice League Unlimited is great too! Fantastic Bruce/Diana stuff, even though I'm not big on the ship their interactions are beyond precious. These are ensemble pieces so they're not all bats, but they're highly recommended if you're interested!
For some quick silly adventures, Justice League Action is fantastic! It's super funny and cute. There's plenty of batman centric episodes, and it's super lighthearted and fun! No robins or alfred in any of the Justice Leagues (very sparcely in JL/JLU) though, unfortunately. Speaking of silly fun batman shows: Batman the Brave and the Bold is a total blast! There's soooo many heroes in it, if you like any other DC characters there's a good chance they appear!
I just recently got into The Batman (2004), and it's really growing on me! The first season especially is really creative and cool. It's a younger take on batman, and it has seeerrious early 2000s boy/Ben ten/bionicles energy lol, but if that's nostalgic for you you'll LOVE it.
If you like adult cartoons, Harley Quinn is pretty good and funny! Of course it's about Harley and her gang over the bats, and the first season especially can get kinda ick in the adult cartoonyness, but by the third season it gets great (VERY good Bruce stuff in the third season! Honestly in all the seasons). Overall I definitely think it's worth a watch. It is not appropriate for kids though, make sure to look up warnings! If you're especially sensitive to gore/violence maybe skip it.
I haven't watched much of these, but I've heard good things if live action is your style! Gotham follows the villains and older generation before Batman came along. Supposedly very good Alfred and Bruce content, with kid Bruce! For my Alfie lovers, Pennyworth follows the adventures of Alfred along with the Waynes, taking down conspiracies back in England during the 60s. As completely up my alley as those sound, they're not really my thing because they are pretty violent, so beware!
Movies!
Starting off with animated movies, the btas movies come very highly recommended! Especially Mask of the Phantasm! I was super not excited for the romance plot, but it 1000% won me over, it's fantastic. Lots of young Bruce stuff (like early early 20s), which is wildly endearing, and very good dadfred moments!! The Mystery of the Batwoman isn't as great, but it's good fun. Sub-Zero is really good if you like Mr.Freeze! For The Batman 2004, there's the Batman vs Dracula! It is wild but so much fun!
On the animated movies front - Batman and Robin: Return of the Caped Crusaders and Batman vs Two Face are absolutely delightful. They're based on the 1960s Batman show, and they go all in on the campy goofy energy!! They're such a good pick me up if you're having a rough day.
As for live action movies, I honestly cannot recommend the 1990s Batman movies enough. Yes, they don't have a great reputation among mainstream comics fans, but they're straight up just wrong. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are some of the most fun batman content ever created! There is so much creativity and energy and love in these movies, they are the definition of a good time. Absolutely guaranteed to provide childlike wonder, 1000/10.
If you're into the more gritty stuff, The Batman (2022). It's a cool new take on Bats, I think it's an interesting direction artistically. Once again violence isn't super my thing, but I appreciated the Alfred moments and Bruce's potent autism swag. Also, though it's probably a genuinely good movie, I am physically unable to take anything seriously and really enjoyed watching it ironically (there are so many serious moments that land as... pure comedy). Though please be sure to look up trigger warnings first, it's a lot.
Comics!
Full disclosure, I'm not a big comic book reader "^^ I really just read the comic versions of the shows I like and a few miscellaneous others I run into. Here's a list of some of the comics I've enjoyed, but they have no rhyme or reason, they are not cohesive lol. If you're more into comics you want to look elsewhere for advice "^^
All Star Batman: First Ally - I have no context for this series as a whole and I do not care: I'm here for pretty art, Alfred backstory, and father and son behavior. I own a hardcover copy.
Batman: Zero Year - Stumbled upon by accident but thoroughly enjoyed. I don't agree with everything in these (batman writers obsession with characters slapping each other my BEHATED) but its pretty cool overall. Featuring my The Alfred Ever and baby Duke Thomas! There's Dark City then Secret City!
One Bad Day: Mr Freeze - I'm not gonna lie this comic is like... bad. Okay so that's not entirely fair: I adore the art, the baby Dick Grayson content, the Alfred content, and honestly most of the story until the end. Spoiler, but they nerf the daylights out of what makes Freeze such an iconic character. Like, I get what they were doing but... come on. Insinuates a bizarre message too. Still worth a peruse for the good moments.
Batman: the Adventures Continue - a continuation of the btas comic series (the batman adventures)!! It's interesting to see them put more modern storylines in the btas universe. The last few issues (holiday special!) Are at very least worth a read.
While I'm here, The Gotham Adventures is also cute and cool, takes place in the btas universe with the tnba style + continuity.
Same as above, if you like the Justice League cartoon check out the tie in comics, including the recent continuation Justice League Infinity!
Oh I guess this do counts: The Wayne Family Adventures is a very cute comic on tapas! It's very cute, and actually published by DC comics!
My best word of advice: follow your interests! Indulge! There is no right way to explore this franchise! There's so much to discover and there's a little something for everybody. There is no obligation to know every little thing about the mythos, you do not need to read from issue 1 or know all the current updates to be a "real fan". Actualy, do us all a favor and stick it to toxic comic fanboys by having as much fun as you can! Pick and choose! Try it all! Be gritty! Be goofy! Be both! Spend hours poking around on fandom wikis to learn about what you want to learn! There's no wrong way to play, I'm just so happy youre here. Now go forth and be batfans!!!

You’ve talked before about similarities between Kon and the version of Lex from Smallville, so I was just wondering if you could elaborate more on that? While I have mixed feelings on Kon and the Clex test tube baby retcon, I do ultimately enjoy the idea that Kon takes after Clark and Lex without meaning to do so.
sure! as i'm sure you've gathered i love talking about lex soooo... 😅
to preface, it probably goes without saying, but when i say kon has a lot in common with lex, I'm talking specifically about the original version. as much as i love the concept of kon being a........."binary clone", as DC insists on calling it (insert "sure jan.gif" here), the black tee era feels almost unrecognizable as the same character at points.
but lex in the early seasons of smallville has a certain reckless disregard for his own well-being that kon also shares, and kon is also impulsive in a way that clark isn't but lex -- especially in his younger years -- is. (tbh i think you can make a strong case for both having bipolar disorder, but then we're just getting into my personal headcanons.)
kon is very flirtatious, and cocky, and a little bit vain, all of which are traits that he has in common with lex.
i also like the idea of kon looking a little like lex, and while you can argue that kon is so much shorter and leaner than clark because he's perpetually stuck as a teenager, i like to think part of it is him taking after lex a little bit. i am a "green eyes kon" truther til the end.
i think the biggest similarity the two have, though, is -- ironically -- some of their specific forms of parental trauma. post-crisis/pre-flashpoint lex was...kind of a nightmare every time he and kon interacted, unfortunately. it's not really a secret that smallville drew a lot from post-crisis lex for lionel's characterization and backstory, so (probably on accident, lbr, because i don't think geoff johns was thinking about it that deeply) you kind of end up with a narrative of lex perpetuating the same kind of abuse that he went through at the same age. given smallville lex's intense fear of becoming his father, there's something potentially really tragic there, to me.
i think, in the hands of a writer who was actually interested in exploring it, you could spin a pretty compelling narrative about cycles of abuse and lex either perpetuating or making an active effort to break that cycle -- regardless of which side of things you're inclined to come down on -- but unfortunately, geoff johns didn't seem that interested in digging into lex's psyche when he was writing kon.

Fanfic Writer Ask Game
📚 & 🏷️
📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?
Definitely! It depends on what you are looking for, so here's a few of my faves in a couple different categories:
***Edit: I'm adding a cut bc it's just occurred to me to mention, anyone new who's not done the series but is seeing this - I do have a spoiler-safe fics list that Scotti and I were working on at one point, so if there's a specific season you're looking for, but not wanting to know what twists come after (or if you're looking for fic for a specific episode or event), feel free to inbox me and I'll send some links. :)
Below this cut there are descriptions that spoil all sorts of things, so.....***
For Jeller, everything by @indelibleevidence is outstanding. I'm gonna start out saying probably a majority of it has passages that are NSFW so if you're a minor or not into that, tread lightly. I'm currently revisiting Remember to Forgive, which has late-season 3 Weller suffering amnesia that takes him mentally back to early season 2; you know, when he couldn't stand to be in the same room as his wife. The angst! It's a fave and totally my jam, I could probably quote it. Torture Without You is... well. Read it. Amazing. I'm a big Remi fan, and here you will also find one of our two Reller champions: the Damaged Goods series is so dark (also very NSFW) but soooo good.
@idealisticrealism is another that everyone should definitely read, imo. The Fire is basically my favorite one-shot ever, and she's our other Reller champion - as complete AUs go I can not possibly overstate my love for From the Ashes and Into Flames. I could literally quote them both to you.
@gypsyscarfwoman is responsible for my other favorite one-shot, Nothing Can Come Between Us, which is Jeller after season 2, but from Sarah Weller's POV. It's just a tiny bit angsty but fluffy and sweet. I love the way she describes the interactions between Jeller as viewed by a concerned third party. There's also Shelter From Your Storm, which is another season 2 AU except that post compound raid there's legitimate concern Nas might throw Jane under the bus and let the CIA have her, so Weller fake marries her to legitimize and protect her.
@ladyriot recently did a lovely retelling of s2 but as a Jane/Patterson slow burn. The way they low key agonize over each other is tragic, but the ending is so sweet without being completely saccharine, and it's definitely worth a look.
I haven't read much Zapatterson but @narvaldetierra is actively writing them. I read Remembers from September and No Good Deed Goes Unpunished a while ago, and I'm excited to reread them soon and then keep working through this ship 😁
Dylan Cruca is worth checking out if you want a bit of season 2/3 Jeller canon divergence/extra scenes, or Jeller/Reller AUs - I thought their post-season 1 AU ended up being a particularly interesting twist - but they're not for everyone.
I could go on but I'll end with one that's basically the fic equivalent to a playlist of Sad Songs to Sob To: Silence Speaks by lochness20, in which Jane's black site escape attempt fails, and when they find her, she is in a REALLY bad state. Warning that it's pretty dark and brutal and tw for suicidal thoughts and an eventual very graphic murder.
🏷 Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?
I don't really look for specific tags; it's not a huge fandom so there's not a ton of room to be choosy. I can say that straight whump isn't my thing, nor is pure domestic stuff, and I generally steer clear of pregnancy/kidfic unless there's some other compelling plot alongside the kids. I guess I basically love angst most of all 😍
Thank you for the ask!! :D It's always fun to revisit some faves. 💕
I'm trying to find my mojo and inspiration to start creating again, and I find these memes are a really good exercise to think critically about my ideas and hopefully get the juices flowing. If anyone else is curious, please check here and consider sending me an ask!
I've also recently done a WIP ask meme, which you can find here if you'd like a peek at what I've been working on before the words left me. :)

OUAT Rewatch: Season 6
Tumblr media
Overall thoughts: This season finally feels like a return to the style and tone of the first two seasons, with the present-day action taking place in Storybrooke, and multiple storylines with multiple potential villains playing out. Those are the seasons I like best!
Episode 6x01 “The Savior”
~ The teaser sets up the conflict for the whole season: can a Savior get a happy ending?
~ “There’s nothing more dangerous than an untold story, and the people who don’t want them told.” What a great line!
~ Where did all of Zelena’s baby supplies come from? Did Robin Hood own any?
~ Regina and Zelena are so endearingly awkward interacting as new housemates!
~ The camera freezes on a cross-shaped headstone when Regina says “Heroism comes first”! Was that an intentional symbol?
~ “When it comes to fixing our biggest problems, there are no shortcuts.”
~ When characters visit the asylum/prison part of the hospital, it usually feels like an homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Emma’s visit to Hyde is the first time it feels like an homage to Silence of the Lambs!
~ Rumple/Gold has already faced the challenge of making Belle fall in love with him again, back in Season 2 when she lost her memory. Having him do so again in the dream world feels unnecessary.
~ The Oracle basically quotes Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back! I’m surprised Emma doesn’t call this out.
~ It’s amazing to see Regina acknowledge that she was a horrible stepmother to Snow, and for Snow to realize that Regina was the one who made her learn about hope!
~ Regina’s monologue and the montage at the end are soooo lovely! I much prefer her new attitude, that one’s life is made up of many stories, over her Season 4 obsession with an Author controlling her life.
~ When Belle passes by the pawnshop, the camera looks out over a candelabra like Lumiere!
Episode 6x02 “A Bitter Draught”
~ The Count of Monte Cristo seems like the kind of story that should be in a Hook-focused episode, since it deals so much with revenge and piracy.
~ I love Hook and Belle’s scene, the fact that he apologized for trying to kill her in the past, and the acknowledgement that he still has work to do in the area of forgiving himself. That baggage did not go away when he decided to return from the Underworld. And Hook’s music theme sounds so sad and pensive during that scene!
~ Regina swordfighting … is not something I ever expected to see, but okay, cool.
~ Why the heck does Rumplestiltskin suddenly act like he wants Regina? They might be past the teacher-student phase of their relationship, but it’s still incredibly uncomfortable!
Episode 6x03 “The Other Shoe”
~ Looks like Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter is now in Storybrooke! I guess it would make sense for her to have sought refuge in the Land of Untold Stories.
~ Emma watching Hook interact with Alexandra is soooo sweet!
~ I like that this episode revisits the backstory of a character who had a one-off episode so early in the show.
~ It seems strange for Ella to say “There’s no such thing as magic.” Did she not live in the Enchanted Forest, or at least a neighboring kingdom?
~ Dopey getting his master’s degree! And Grumpy/Leroy’s attitude toward Emma!
~ It might have been better setup to show Ashley’s reaction to seeing Lorinda’s name on the list of newcomers.
~ Mary Margaret was already shown returning to her teaching job in the middle of Season 4, presumably after she took some maternity leave. Her time away in Camelot and the Underworld only amounted to a couple months, at most. Why is her return to teaching such a big deal now?
~ Hook and Henry practicing swordfighting is great, and shows that Hook has now joined Henry’s father and maternal grandfather in the role of mentoring him!
~ They brought back Gus! It’s nice to see Ella having a friend with her in her home and at the ball.
~ I like that they show how Ella and Snow met! That helps explain how they recognize each other at Ella and Thomas’ engagement/wedding ball.
~ It almost seems odd that OUAT hasn’t depicted the Cinderalla ball before, earlier in its run.
~ Cutting from the glass slipper to the glass chess set—both possessions/gifts of Rumplestiltskin—is great!
~ David’s desperation seems a bit out of nowhere after he appeared so optimistic in his scene with Mary Margaret.
~ Hook really let Belle settle in and put her own mark on her cabin, which was previously his own!
~ Looks like Snow was as responsible for Ella’s happy ending as Emma was for Ashley’s!
~ Dr. Jekyll meeting Dr. Frankenstein is hilarious! As is the fact that Snow thinks getting them to teach is “part of getting this town back to normal”!
~ Snow and David’s final scene is so sweet, and their conversation about Neal is full of truth! Childrearing may not be “epic,” but it really is the most important work.
~ They really contrived a way to get Robert Carlyle to read poetry in his full Scottish accent!
~ How can the Evil Queen simply free Hyde? Did Regina not take any precautions against this after finding out she had visited him?
~ I like the theme of this episode, about seeking happiness even when the future is not a guarantee, and the fact that the storyline ends in reconciliation for Ella and her sister and their respective loves.
Episode 6x04 “Strange Case”
~ In situations where you feel powerless, cutting your hair can feel like a way of reclaiming control. So, it makes sense for Gold to take that action, even if it seems random.
~ Interesting to see Gold fixing a watch, and his shop full of clocks, considering the show’s name and theme!
~ Rumplestiltskin basically plays the same role in Jekyll’s story as he did in Frankenstein’s.
~ Gold sinks to new levels of abuse in this episode, imprisoning Belle in the name of protecting her.
~ It’s pretty significant that Gold is comfortable with Belle being with Hook on his ship, considering their history with Milah.
~ Leroy and David have a great, supportive little exchange.
~ Grumpy/Leroy has never articulated the dwarves’ job(s) as “protectors” before. I thought he was going to say that what they do best is work—they seem to gravitate toward physical labor, whether in the mines or in the magic bean fields.
~ “It’s the queen!” Nice little callback to the pilot episode!
~ It looks like Snow is now teaching middle or high school level, whereas during the curse she was teaching elementary school.
~ Now I’m wondering whether Storybrooke’s schools bother with actual certification or accreditation. Does Snow really have the know how to teach?
~ What is with Belle’s outfit? It looks like a nightgown, or hospital gown, or something for the beach or a maternity shoot.
~ Interesting that Hook is the one to save Belle, and Gold sees it!
~ The fact that Gold’s attempt to protect Belle ended up putting her in danger is so emblematic of their now-toxic relationship.
~ Considering how they set up the new arc with Regina and the Evil Queen, I wasn’t expecting Jekyll and Hyde’s story to end so quickly!
~ I like the framing of Regina and Emma’s profiles against the ocean.
~ David’s angst and mixed feelings about Hook and Emma’s relationship aren’t really resolved by the end of the episode.
~ I knew Shireen was Jasmine!
~ The credits list Tom Sawyer as a character! Where was he?
Episode 6x05 “Street Rats”
~ What is with the use of captions for time and location? They were hardly ever used before the previous season.
~ Aladdin’s accent sounds like that of someone from the lower class in some part of England.
~ I like Jasmine’s clothes very much, but she’s wearing way too much jewelry for someone in disguise or on a mission in the desert.
~ What did the Evil Queen mean about her and Archie being a good team? The fact that she forced him to do unethical things during the curse?
~ Jasmine and Aladdin’s argument scene is great! And he does the apple trick like in the movie!
~ Regina is like Satan, or Eris, sowing discord among Emma’s family, and either creating or exposing a lack of trust.
~ The heroes should remember that A) people have kidnapped and impersonated Archie before, and B) he would never betray a patient’s confidentiality.
~ They pay homage to two movies with a single prop!
~ Why would any villain with half a brain discuss their plans and motives in a public place, with other people right in front of them?
~ On the other hand, it’s interesting to see Zelena and any version of Regina talk about their children.
~ Why don’t the heroes rush to find Archie after realizing he’s missing?
~ Regina being the one to comfort someone who’s grieving is new!
~ There isn’t nearly enough spotlight on Hook in this episode, as he learns that Emma’s life may end because of her role as the Savior. But that shot of him looking back at her before leaving her in the crypt is beautiful and speaks volumes!
~ Emma and Henry’s scene is wonderful, and her turnaround makes sense. She wouldn’t change her attitude after hearing a “hope speech” from her parents, but she would do so in order to comfort and encourage her son.
~ Hook manages to turn a banal question like “Pizza or Chinese” into a profound moment: “Your heart’s desire, Swan. That’s all I want.”
~ I had thought that Hook was past keeping secrets, especially from Emma; but it makes sense that he would keep one with the intention of having a way to help/save Emma.
Episode 6x06 “Dark Waters”
~ I spent the whole episode confused about when the flashbacks take place. The opening caption says “At the time of the Dark Curse,” but Hook was frozen in time with Cora for the 28 years of the first Dark Curse being in effect. Did Hook leave Cora at some point and resume traveling on the Jolly Roger after time started moving again, before Emma and Snow arrived in the Enchanted Forest? That’s the only explanation that would make sense of Liam Junior aging yet Hook still being on his quest for vengeance.
~ Hook wants so earnestly to be a good parental figure to Henry, making him a healthy breakfast and offering to play video games with him!
~ Henry is still ambivalent about Hook: one moment Henry sounds defensive against Hook, probably because he is still attached to his father; the next moment, he’s defensive of Hook when the Evil Queen taunts him.
~ If Belle is one trimester through her pregnancy, that suggests that the baby was conceived during her honeymoon in Season 4, not during her brief reconciliation with Gold in Season 5.
~ It’s interesting that Liam Junior followed in his brothers’ footsteps with a career at sea, only in an entirely different way.
~ Hook and Henry’s interactions and bonding are so good!
~ I’m glad that Liam Junior and Nemo reunited, but I wish there had been a little more time given for Liam’s reconciliation with Hook. A lifetime of suffering would not be forgiven that quickly.
~ Of course Emma would have done the same; she practically did the same with Excalibur!
~ Gold is quite bold to refer to Henry as Hook’s son in front of the Evil Queen!
Episode 6x07 “Heartless”
~ The fact that the Evil Queen can just waltz into the Charmings’ apartment and magic one of them away …
~ How did Snow meet the Blue Fairy prior to knowing the dwarves? And how did Snow not realize that the one she thought she met was an impostor, Cora? In Season 1 it is implied that the fairies joined Snow White’s fight because Blue owed Grumpy a favor after he let go of Nova.
~ The Blue Fairy throwing axes!?
~ Wilby and Longbourne sound like nods to Jane Austen!
~ The Evil Queen quoting that Dylan Thomas poem is unexpected but fitting!
~ It is a bit odd to see Hook be the one to give a pep talk/hope speech, but he makes a good point about Emma’s relationship to her parents. The time travel adventure gave her a unique role in bringing her parents together. In a way, she is as responsible for their relationship as it is responsible for her existence.
~ I tend not to like when the writers have characters meet only to forget about it later; but in this case it feels forgivable because they do figure out that it was each other!
~ Why would Gabriel leave Snow unattended in the prison wagon?
~ Belle makes a good point about the difference between being “pure evil” and being too weak to be good.
~ The Evil Queen really reconstructed the glass coffin just so Snow and David could play out that scene?
Episode 6x08 “I’ll Be Your Mirror”
~ It’s amazing to see Regina upset about Snow and David’s sleeping curse, when she was the one who originally put Snow under one!
~ That split-screen montage is so bittersweet, and unusually artistic cinematography for this show!
~ I wish we got to see Hook helping Henry figure out what to wear to the dance! That glimpse of Hook holding up a tie for him is such a tease.
~ The Evil Queen tying a tie around Henry’s neck while deceiving him is so symbolic!
~ When did Belle meet Jasmine and Aladdin?
~ How can Gold quote Cora saying “Love is weakness”? I thought his character couldn’t regress any more, but I was wrong.
~ Is the Dragon’s daughter Mulan?!
~ The Evil Queen really seems to have forgotten how Cora ruined her life, if she is now trying to shape Henry into a king.
~ Even though it’s part of a sinister, almost seductive conversation, I like that they finally addressed the fact that Henry is a prince, and that being royalty is about more than just birth.
~ It’s nice to see an episode focused on Henry, and on his relationship with his mothers! Their maternal love triangle was the main source of conflict in the first two seasons, and it’s wonderful to both revisit his childhood with Regina and see how much they have all grown. Emma and Regina talk about Henry like the coparents they have become.
~ Where was Hook this whole time? Did the Evil Queen knock him out only temporarily, so he was able to arrive just in time to restrain her?
~ Was Sidney once Aladdin’s genie?!
Episode 6x09 “Changelings”
~ From the beginning, the show has always played with the fact that Rumplestiltskin takes children through unfair deals, but never explained why.
~ Rumplestiltskin has a tapestry of the Visitation in his castle! How appropriate, since it’s a story about two pregnant women!
~ The Evil Queen finally has an outfit that I like! She looks more like a warrior now!
~ I never realized until now that a genie’s tie to his lamp, which enslaves him while giving him his power, is just like the Dark One’s tie to the dagger!
~ As can be the case in real life, the thing that keeps Gold from being loved and forgiven is the fact that he believes he can’t be loved or forgiven.
~ This must be the first time Emma actually assists a mother in labor and delivery! It’s beautiful to see, though a little odd to think that Emma’s one childbirth experience was with the newborn’s nephew.
~ Who knew it was possible to simultaneously feel so much hatred and sympathy for a character?
~ So is Belle still living on the Jolly Roger? Or do the fairies let her stay in the convent to recover from the birth?
Episode 6x10 “Wish You Were Here”
~ Regina really should have thought of a better version of her wish! For instance, instead of sending just herself, she could have sent Henry or someone else Emma and the others would have trusted.
~ How can Regina be so certain that the reality she is in is not real? How does she know the doppelgangers aren’t connected to their counterparts in Storybrooke?
~ It was way too easy for David to get hold of the lamp! And the Evil Queen could have just magicked it into her hand.
~ “We’ve been portalled!”
~ Princess Emma’s characterization really doesn’t make sense, even for an alternate reality. If her parents were brave heroes, and she was raising her son to be a knight, she would at least try follow and set good examples of heroism. Surrendering the key to the kingdom in front of her parents makes no sense; they would have taught her the value of sacrifice and the importance of protecting their people.
~ If the Dark Curse was not cast, how in all the realms did Emma meet Baelfire/Neal and have Henry with him at such a young age?
Episode 6x11 “Tougher Than the Rest”
~ They did a great job of casting a teenage August! He both looks and sounds like him.
~ Nottingham does the same thing as Gabriel, leaving the prisoners in transit just so they have an opportunity to escape.
~ Regina never mentions to Robin the fact that his other version had a son. That makes a huge difference in his identity!
~ Didn’t Emma learn from her experience with Marian that you shouldn’t bring people across time and realities in order to save them?
~ Lana Parilla’s acting in a single shot, when she goes from grieving Robin to rejoicing at his arrival, is great!
~ How is it so easy for Emma to knock Gideon back with her magic and destroy the sword?
~ It looks like there is a carving of a swan on the shelf in Marco and August’s garage!
Episode 6x12 “Murder Most Foul”
~ This is one of the biggest episodes about David and his family, but also manages to move forward plot and character development for Hook and his relationship with Emma.
~ David and James probably both had trauma from being separated from each other as infants.
~ Emma is still wearing the very same clothes she wore when Gideon was born!
~ I wonder how long Hook had been thinking about proposing to Emma, how long he had that ring, and what made him decide to take that step at that point. I’m guessing her defeat of Gideon was a big part of it, as he had been afraid that she would die.
~ Did Hook actually buy the ring, as Archie assumes? How could he afford it? Does he have any savings or income at this point?
~ Regina has a piano in her home! Does she play, or Henry?
~ Why couldn’t Regina heal Robin’s slight wound?
~ What David asks Hook to do really is awful: betray the trust of the woman he loves in order to make a good impression with her father and maintain the friendship they have.
~ Is that the Golden Fleece in Rumplestiltskin’s castle?
~ So Pinocchio existed when David was only six years old?! But he was still a little boy when Emma was born. Does that mean he lived as a wooden puppet for a couple decades before he became real?
~ David handcuffs Hook just like Emma has on so many occasions! Pretty crummy way to treat the guy who just did so much to help him.
~ David never addresses the fact that he sent his brother into the River of Lost Souls, which is supposed to be even worse than death.
~ Why would David challenge George (or anyone) to a duel with knives rather than swords?
~ David’s monologue is fantastic, and some of the best acting we’ve seen from Josh Dallas in this show!
~ For Hook, of all people, to talk someone down from exacting revenge is amazing!
~ David is terrified by the idea that even his best effort might not be good enough. David’s fear is actually one that he shares with Emma and Hook: that he won’t be enough to protect the people he loves.
~ The big question is, why does Robert’s ghost appear to David at that time? And why didn’t David find him, or at least his tombstone, in the Underworld? It’s as ambiguous as Hamlet’s father’s ghost in the play from which this episode seems to draw its inspiration.
~ The blessing scene is so excellent! The only weird thing is David calling Hook old-fashioned, when in the past Hook called David old-fashioned about his expectations for Emma’s relationships.
~ It seems like a stretch for Hook to recognize someone he killed on a dark rainy night decades earlier. It might have been easier to believe that he could recognize a trinket like the lucky coin; but he does not recognize it the whole time he and David are handling it.
~ I would have expected the episode to end with Hook looking at the pages, but having it end with him closing the engagement ring box is even more ominous!
Episode 6x13 “Ill-Boding Patterns”
~ It’s cool to see Beowulf appear in OUAT!
~ It’s so strange to see Gold discourage someone from giving in to their inner darkness. He practically drove Cora, Regina, and Zelena into it, and a vision of him urged Emma to embrace her magic as the Dark One.
~ Since when does Regina wear hats that match her outfits? Is she picking up aspects of Zelena’s style?
~ Regina being willing to let Robin go in order to find his happiness is huge character development from the woman who enslaved Graham and tried to kidnap Owen.
~ I can’t believe they gave Baelfire a storyline about “going dark”! I don’t like it when they use memory potion to create a storyline only to erase a character’s arc; but it says a lot about Rumple that he was willing to let Baelfire blame him rather than himself.
~ It feels odd for Emma to be absent for most of an episode, only appearing in one scene where she is ignorant of the full truth of the situation.
~ Even when split from Regina, the Evil Queen is proud of her town!
Episode 6x14 “Page 23”
~ I bet Henry asked for details about Hook’s proposal because he wants to get ideas for his own in the future!
~ I’m glad to see Nemo still acting as a friend and mentor to Hook, but their scene basically plays out the same way as Hook’s scene with Archie in the previous episode.
~ Why does Henry Senior ask “what are you doing” when Regina hardly moved?
~ The scene with Emma and Hook was inevitable, but I’m surprised it took place in the middle of the episode rather than at the end. Why did Emma come home at that point, after learning that Regina was going to face the Evil Queen? Was she coming to get Hook so he could be part of the action?
~ I like how the conflict between Emma and Hook is more complicated than just her being mad about what he did to her grandfather. She’s upset about the fact that he kept it a secret, because it shows his doubt about the strength of their relationship.
~ “Destinations never matter” is a pretty strong absolute statement.
~ I knew the arrow was going to lead Regina to face herself! But why did it not lead to her magic mirror? That would have been a fantastic tie-in with the themes and symbols of the original Snow White story.
~ Regina literally fighting herself, and then embracing herself, is amazing!!!
~ I LOVE Snow and Hook’s scene! They hardly ever interact with each other, and I don’t think they’ve ever had a scene with just the two of them. It makes sense that she would be the one to renew his hope that he can be forgiven and deserving of love.
~ It feels odd for Nemo to appear, and even mention Liam, without Liam himself showing up, when Hook is wrestling with so much guilt about his past. Liam would have stirred up all kinds of feelings about guilt and atonement.
Episode 6x15 “A Wondrous Place”
~ Wouldn’t “Let’s go fishing” be more fitting than “Let’s go hunting”? Or is kraken not a fish?
~ Hook almost acts parental with Jasmine and Aladdin, telling them to “Get on board before you get yourselves killed” and encouraging her to face her fear.
~ I would expect Henry to do more than sit around with his headphones in and ask “Are you okay?” when his mom is going through a heartbreak.
~ When and why did Emma stop wearing Hook’s ring pendant? Did she give it back to him when they both returned to Storybrooke?
~ Snow refers to her son as a toddler, but he can’t be more than a few months old!
~ I like that Hook and Liam Junior have a goodbye hug, but I wish they had more scenes together! Despite sparing him in their fight, Liam has not really been shown forgiving Hook or accepting him as his brother.
~ Jasmine mentions Scheherazade!!! About time a female storyteller got some credit!
~ How does Ariel’s flashback storyline fit in with her present-day story in Season 3? Did she not tell Eric about her mermaid identity when they reunited in Storybrooke?
~ While I wish Aladdin had been a more active character this season, it is cool to see Jasmine be the one to defeat Jafar!
Episode 6x16 “Mother’s Little Helper”
~ I can’t see Emma allowing Gideon into her home when Henry is there.
~ The Black Fairy is way too giggly. They speak of how evil she is, but she acts like a school bully.
~ Wait, so the Dragon did make it out of the mirror?
~ The way Hook says “civilized” reminds me of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but betting a ship in a game of cards seems like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian!
~ Would Blackbeard really carry something as powerful and valuable as a magic bean in his hat?
~ Captain Hook running from Lost Boys seems a bit undignified.
~ Gold saves Emma’s life in the very same manor where he tried to kill her!
~ How can Emma tell a parent that their child cannot be saved?!
~ If the heroes left behind the Lost Boys who were loyal to Pan, why did they take Felix along when they left Neverland?
~ Having Gideon be controlled by the Black Fairy via his heart may preserve his innocence, but also undermines all his motivation in the last few episodes. Whose idea was it for him to impersonate Aesop? Did he really hope that Emma could defeat the Black Fairy?
~ The Black Fairy’s dress at the end of the episode looks like spiderwebs! I guess spiders are kind of her motif, like the Other Mother in Coraline.
Episode 6x17 “Awake”
~ “Who said this was a rescue?” had me laughing out loud!
~ Emma and Snow wear similar shirts in this episode, black with white collars!
~ What caused the pixie flower to grow at that point, ten years after the curse was cast? Did some evil arrive that caused it to appear?
~ The idea that people woke up from the curse before Emma broke it really undermines the significance of her role.
~ Did David have fake memories when he first woke up from his coma? Did he understand the technology of this world?
~ Who is that police officer/security guard? Shouldn’t it be Graham as the sheriff?
~ David’s confidence that Hook is fighting for Emma is beautiful!
~ Hook references the Tiger Lily at Skull Rock incident from the book Peter Pan!
~ How could there be so many Lost Boys left behind on Neverland? There weren’t nearly that many in season 3!
~ “Why is it never past their bloody bedtime?” Hook must have had more than his share of hearing the Lost Boys’ parties!
~ The pig and the conch seem like allusions to Lord of the Flies, which is also about boys stranded on an island!
~ Emma shows great character growth in that she understands and forgives her parents giving up the chance to raise her in order to let her save the rest of their community.
~ I had to look up Geppetto/Marco’s toast, “Cent’Anni.” It’s a traditional Italian toast meaning “May You Live 100 Years.” That is so beautiful in the context of Snow and Charming’s sleeping curse!
~ The distribution of the sleeping curse in a chalice seems like a strange inversion of the Eucharist (aka Communion or the Lord’s Supper). They are aware of Snow and Charming’s sacrifice for them, and they choose to sacrifice for them in return. It also reminds me of Paradise Lost, when Adam learns that Eve has eaten the forbidden fruit, and chooses to eat it in order to share in her curse rather than be separated from her.
Episode 6x18 “Where Bluebirds Fly”
~ This may be the first Zelena-focused episode that I remotely like!
~ Honestly, Snow and David should understand why Emma and Hook would want some privacy. Both couples just reunited after being separated for a while, and the sleeping curse was going on even longer than Hook’s disappearance!
~ Does Regina just regularly go to Gold and/or Belle to stock up on potion ingredients?
~ Emma and Hook are so sappy and shameless at this point! And their bemused expressions as David and Snow argue over them are hilarious!
~ Hook is a good man to put up with his future in-laws’ bickering over his wedding; but he could have been a little more assertive about what he and Emma want rather than what Snow wants.
~ “If this is about Hook, that ship has sailed, and there’s a pirate on it, deal with it!”
~ David’s monologue is wonderful, but Snow’s reaction, expressing doubt about the outcome of the Final Battle, seems out-of-character for her.
~ Baby Robin’s care is a throughline of this episode, but who is taking care of baby Neal while his parents plan his sister’s wedding?
~ Emma saying Robin is “one of us” in the presence of only Regina and Zelena made me wonder if Robin might be a magic wielder like them!
~ I am surprised that they actually had Zelena give up her magic. When Emma tried to do that in Season 4, it was portrayed as a terrible thing, indicative of self-loathing. And magic has had such a huge impact on Zelena’s life and identity, for her to give it up is a huge personal sacrifice. I’m not sure we’ve seen her reach the point of being able to do something like that unless it was for her child’s direct benefit.
~ I like that Belle has a subtle arc in this episode, with her role as a babysitter having some relevance at the end.
Episode 6x19 “The Black Fairy”
~ I never thought we would see grown-up Peter Pan again!
~ If Tiger Lily was Rumple’s fairy godmother, that raises a lot of questions about her relationship with Pan and Hook in Neverland. Did she know about Hook’s quest for revenge on the person she was supposed to safeguard? Did she try to sabotage him, in order to protect her charge?
~ Gold should know that Hook would be outraged at him for putting Emma into a magic sleep of any kind!
~ “Dreams are a maze” = unsubtle reference to Inception?
~ It’s interesting to see Emma (attempt to) bond with Gold, of all people, over the experience of being an orphan.
~ Regina asking Zelena to look after Henry is amazing, but the timing of it in the middle of their comical driving lesson feels awkward. And shouldn’t Emma also be part of the conversation about who would raise him if his parents died?
~ Granny’s being the heart of Storybrooke … makes sense on some level, but could have benefited from more setup or acknowledgement of it as such.
~ “Jukebox?” “Jukebox.”
~ Finally, someone introduces the idea of passwords to confirm identity! They have fallen prey to too many magical impostures.
~ I find it a bit hard to believe that Regina never killed a fairy during her reign of terror.
~ Regina is wearing light colors when she faces off against the Black Fairy!
~ While it’s a bit of a stretch to believe that a fairy can be bested with a car crash, Zelena coming in to save Regina that way was both awesome and hilarious!
~ I don’t like the idea that the Dark Curse was created by the Black Fairy rather than Rumplestiltskin. Was he playing into her hand by finding someone to cast it, just as Regina played into his hand by casting it? That kind of behind-the-scenes manipulation isn’t needed since it was already there.
~ So after turning Granny’s upside-down, the heroes just have a relaxing dinner there? And they don’t even stand up when Gold informs them that he killed his own mother to protect them? They don’t seem very appreciative!
~ When did they decide to hold the wedding so soon? They just talked about postponing it! Most people wait at least a few months, and all that planning and arranging that had Mary Margaret so excited takes time!
~ Belle should recognize that Gold is singing the same tune he always has, saying that everything he does is to protect his family.
~ Hook asking Henry to be his best man is such a great moment! They started out mainly caring about each other because of their connections to Emma and Neal, but they’ve developed a real friendship and respect for each other.
~ What happened to the Blue Fairy?! Did the Black Fairy really torture her to get the information on the wand? Did Gold really restore her to the other fairies?
Episode 6x20 “The Song in Your Heart”
~ The title sequence is similar to the wedding episode of Steven Universe, with an orchestra tuning their instruments!
~ This whole episode is wonderful! The hilarity of seeing the characters break into song, and be self-aware about it, helps offset the heaviness of the present-day plot, where Emma’s wedding day and her entire future are both at stake. But the theme of music also serves a purpose for the present-day plot, and gives Emma an epiphany about her life, her inner strength/power, and her relationship with her parents. Music lovers know that there is something powerful, almost sacred, about it, and having that explored in the context of OUAT is really interesting.
~ The musical numbers do an impressive job walking the line between parody and earnestness. They represent each of the characters well, and are just plain fun to watch.
~ Hook is the only one who wholeheartedly embraces the singing without questioning it or finding it strange.
~ I can’t tell if Zelena is self-aware about her song or if it is one of those musical numbers that just represents her interior thoughts.
~ Zelena’s actions in the flashbacks don’t really make sense.
~ How can Emma leave behind her family when they’re frozen in the Black Fairy’s custody? Why does the Black Fairy let her go instead of threatening to kill them then and there?
~ Emma tries to do the same thing Henry did in season 3, giving up her heart to one of Rumplestiltskin’s parents.
~ Emma seems like the last person to embrace singing, as she’s always been the most resistant to things like magic and emotion and vulnerability. So it’s really significant that the climax involves her finding power through a song.
~ Emma’s song is the first in the episode that doesn’t feel like it’s half playing for laughs: the music is powerful, and the lyrics are completely serious and show Emma’s growth as a character. She has not only forgiven her parents, she has come to believe that they were right to give her up, because she needed to fulfill her role as the Savior.
~ “A Happy Beginning” is just perfect. The characters understand that there are still challenges ahead they need to face, yet they enjoy the happy moment, look to the future with hope, and commit to stand with each other through whatever comes.
~ Archie and Marco are both at the wedding, but August is nowhere to be seen! He must have been present off-camera, because there is no way he would miss Emma’s wedding.
~ I thought I heard several subtle references to songs from other musicals: “Let It Go” from Frozen, “On My Own” and “A Heart Full of Love” from Les Misérables
Episode 6x21 “The Final Battle Part 1”
~ Is that David’s sword, the one Emma used to slay Maleficent? Is that why they included those clips in the recap?
~ Why is Henry always exempt from the Dark Curse(s)? Did Fiona choose to keep him in Storybrooke so she could use him as leverage over Emma? Letting him retain his memories and the storybook seems like too much of a risk.
~ There seem to be way more asylum patients, and a much better facility for them, in this curse’s version of Storybrooke.
~ Emma taking her medicine gives big Matrix vibes.
~ When Hook wakes up, the first thing he does is look at his hand to see if his wedding ring is still there!
~ How is the Charmings’ old castle standing? Wasn’t it destroyed in the first curse? Didn’t Emma and Snow see it in ruins when they went there in Season 2?
~ Having Hook face the beanstalk again is a great way to get the characters to reflect on the beginning of his relationship with Emma. His speech to David is full of emotion and accurately summarizes what made his and Emma’s relationship so compelling, both similar and different from other love stories in fairy tales.
~ Henry acknowledges that Hook is Emma’s true love!
~ Even when she doesn’t believe him, Emma still loves and appreciates Henry so much.
~ Finally, they addressed the fact that Wish Snow and Charming were killed!
~ So Wish Robin, who was a selfish scoundrel, still met Friar Tuck at some point? Why do they never show this friar?!
~ Henry’s smile is so proud when Fiona talks about how hard it is to get Emma to stop believing.
~ Hook and David have a nice moment in the giants’ castle, but the context feels contrived. And that “obstacle course” isn’t all that difficult for Hook to overcome.
~ Is that dragon supposed to be Maleficent?
Episode 6x22 “The Final Battle Part 2”
~ Hook calling Snow “Mummy” is funny, but it feels a bit immature and regressive after he’s come so far in his relationship with Emma’s parents. And there’s absolutely no need for Snow to say “It’s important.” Hook knows how bloody important it is!
~ I wish Hook and David’s climb ended up making an actual difference in the plot.
~ Unlike when Emma first tried to leave Storybrooke, nothing impedes her when she drives away. Fate does not intervene with a wolf or some other distraction or obstacle.
~ It looks like Henry can draw, just like his father and paternal grandmother!
~ Having Snow and Charming reverse roles and play out the true love’s kiss awakening was not necessary. They already did that back in season 2, and they revisited the sleeping curse imagery throughout this season. There is no uncertainty about their love, so it does not carry any real suspense.
~ Is that the mirror from Beauty and the Beast?
~ What was that shot of Emma barging into the mayor’s office with the sword for? Did she intend to use it against Fiona?
~ How can light snuff out light? It doesn’t make sense.
~ Gold kills Fiona way too easily. How can she be defeated by her own wand? Does it work like the Dark One dagger, being the only thing that can destroy its owner? And why is Fiona’s death the event that breaks the curse, rather than Emma coming to believe?
~ Why did the writers have Belle reunite with Gold only for her to be left behind while he has his final temptation? Why not just have them reunite after?
~ Where did Emma get the beanie? Did she pause to put it on while running from Gideon with the sword?
~ Hook saying they should kill Gideon makes no sense. He was there when Gideon was born, and they know that he’s not in control of himself. Hook knows what that is like from his own experience of someone controlling his heart.
~ David calling Gideon a “son of a bitch” is actually insulting Belle!
~ Emma’s declaration of who and what she is reminds me of a line from Peter Pan declaring his identity to Captain Hook: “I’m youth, I’m joy.”
~ The climax and resolution happen way too quickly.
~ I think Hook should have been the one to kiss and awaken Emma. Yes, Henry doing it is a nice parallel to her waking him in Season 1, but their relationship had been solid and unquestioned for years, and he had already served a heroic role in the finale by getting Emma to believe. In contrast, Hook had just married Emma a day earlier, after many ups and downs in their relationship, and he had failed to break curses by kissing her on two previous occasions (in season 3 and season 5). Plus, his whole adventure in the previous episode had yielded no real effect on the plot. Having him be the one to say “I love you” and kiss Emma to restore her to life would have been more fulfilling for both the plot and the characters’ relationship. Plus, if he thought she was gone for good, it could have been a really emotional growing moment for Hook, seeing his love sacrifice herself for him and everyone else, and respecting that in spite of losing her. Then the kiss would have been completely based on how he felt, not on any pragmatic hope as in the previous cases.
~ Gideon turning into a baby again feels like the kind of false solution Gold proposed to his other son. He offered to make Neal a teenage boy again so they could have a do-over. Does turning into a baby again erase all of Gideon’s memories, the experiences that shaped him? (I can hardly call it character development since his character was not really well written.)
~ Was that Tinker Bell? Did she return to Neverland after all?
~ I’m glad that David is the one taking care of Neal now, instead of him being left with a babysitter while both his parents work!
~ Violet is waiting for Henry at the bus stop! But it’s such a fleeting glimpse it’s easy to miss.
~ Emma making Hook her deputy is excellent! He has come such a long way in his life, from indentured servant to navy man to pirate to law enforcement.
~ The dwarves making new signage for Regina’s door is sweet, but giving her the title of queen again seems weird. Snow and David are the real leaders of Storybrooke, and there are other princes and princesses there too. If they want to have an official leader, they really ought to be elected.
~ Having Gold and Belle dance to the music from “Beauty and the Beast” is sweet, but they’ve done it before, and their reconciliation doesn’t really feel earned after how much he put her through. How does she know if she can trust him now? Does he still have the Dark One dagger?
~ The only thing that seems missing from the montage is a shot of the Jolly Roger. Hook may not live there anymore, but I’m sure it would still be a part of his new family’s life.
~ That last shot of everyone sitting on one side of a long table is just like Da Vinci’s “Last Supper”! After all the jokes and sarcastic comments about family dinners in this show (“Maybe one day they’ll invite you to dinner,” “It’s a good thing we didn’t have Thanksgiving in our land,” etc.) it’s amazing to see them all come together for a meal—even those who have killed their loved ones and tried to kill them.
~ Honestly, that last scene of Lucy knocking on Henry’s door would not have been a terrible place to end the series. Then, if the writers wanted, they could have told Lucy’s story in a separate spin-off.

I want to know.. ... ur karamatsu thots
i love karamatsu a lot and i think it is a shame like. how hes been treated by fans over the years but also that people genuinely think hes cool
hes just like the rest of them hes literally just some guy hes so dude and like hes trying he tries so hard but hes just so very lame and pathetic and thats so funny to me
hes so like. interesting to think about because like. i feel like we as the audience still even after 3 seasons and a movie (hasnt seen hippopo or whatever movie yet) we still dont know much about karamatsu at least as much as we do the other 5. like the movie was ostensibly About him it was his memory world it was his regret he was pretty much the main character, but we barely saw him he barely grew as a character which i get is the point of a comedy show and its honestly impressive getting through an entire movie while moving absolutely nothing lol like we have no idea how karamatsu evolved from just a little guy to. That. (iguesscomingoutchangesamanlol)
they even mention it in pizza, they never have any idea what karamatsu is thinking and neither do we!! his genuine feelings are SO under lock and key most of the time so its really hard to get a gauge on him he grew up and built up cringe as fuck walls that have Lasted that he only lets down when he sees fit
that is one area he has grown though he is bringing it down more frequently n i really enjoy it like he lets it down a lot more through the seasons especially around choromatsu (suiriku underrated) like he tells him doing everything for everyone is hell he tells him about his crush and how hes worried about how todomatsus gonna be. and hes letting out his more negative feelings through it like how Low his tolerance for his brothers has gotten, on my rewatch of the show hes absolutely just stopped giving a fuck and its one of my favourite things he will just flat out be like i dont care, exclusivematsu is the best possible direction they couldve gone with him, his whole part in pizza where we Watch that wall come down, the bits in phantom stream where hes like jyushimatsu i do not see you. choromatsu i believe in you!! >;D and then he walks out the room like :| NBMVNC literally any time he interacts with osomatsu absolutely No respect
i feel like most of his popularity, at least in the early days idk i dont really interact w wider fandom now, came from him being a sad little wet dog of a man that was prime woobification real estate but i just really like when he gets mean cus he gets so backhanded about it too like hes soooo bitchy its so funny LIKE IN THE BARTENDER SKIT theyre like dude we didnt order these give us our drinks and he fucking tuts and says like okay fine in The most fruity way hes ever done anything and thats saying something hes literally so fucking funny
i do also enjoy that he was the only one able to make friends in s2 he was absolutely that biker gangs little purse dog they kept him around for laughs, the way hes so useless he physically cannot get a job.. lame little creature with gunk in his eyes
anyway yeah im not good at tying my ramblinig posts up in a neat little bow and i feel like i do have more to say like this isnt all my feelings on karama but i cant. think of anything else so I'll leave it at, all i know is if i was able to break through his first defensive layer of coolguy nonsense i absolutely would be his friend he is so fucking funny to me <3 mean bestie hours im holding him like this

May I request more info about the rise au so I can better suggest additional characters?
yeah of course!! i honestly forgot to mention what kind of au it is in the post itself (i made the post and then got off tumblr for hours like i was trying to forget i even made it in the first place dlkgfjsdljg) but i'd be happy to provide more info on the au!
(the post in question)
so the au is the separated au i've been working on for over a year (first chapter is posted on ao3 as sunset hues, jetpack blues) and i'm looking to add more characters into the fic to spice things up a little
the general premise is that splinter was only able to save raph and mikey, leaving leo and donnie (known in the fic as lee and dee) with draxum. the fic starts about where the series does, around the events of mystic mayhem, and after raph, mikey, and april destroy draxum's lab, lee and dee use this as a distraction to run away.
i intend the fic to follow lee and dee as they forge their new life away from draxum, and along the way they meet their brothers and splinter and april and end up becoming heroes. i'm going to loosely follow canon (a retelling, sort of, as a lot of sep aus tend to) but i don't want to follow canon 1-to-1. i want to add some new arcs, some new adventures, and change the existing things to match the change of circumstances
the foot clan are still planning on bringing back shredder, that's a given, and some things might still happen along the same lines as canon (especially stuff that happens off screen and some of the stuff with raph/mikey/april) but i hate when fics just rehash canon, so i'm trying to add some excitement
some characters i've already considered are:
tigerclaw (he's a bounty hunter here)
miyamoto usagi (he's an adult here, and he owns a dojo in the hidden city)
bebop and rocksteady (i'm thinking they're battle nexus competitors)
mona lisa (i'm going to make her a yokai, possibly late teens, early 20s, and tweak her name to be ramona, with "mona" as a nickname)
miwa (borrowing this name to create a snake yokai that's friends with mona lol)
i jokingly thought it would be funny to add in the frog mutants from tmnt 87 lol
but i've been really stuck on how to add any more characters, and which characters to even add. i don't want them to be big characters or very important, mostly just characters that the cast can interact with to fill the world, but i'm not a big fan of OCs so i figured adding (semi) recognizable tmnt characters would be a fun workaround lol
adding some more characters to make yokai would be fun i think, bc rise has this whole city full of them and we only ever get to meet a handful and it leaves soooo many possibilities
i hadn't really considered adding more antagonists before (barring tigerclaw, who i have Plans for) but it might make for some interesting plot threads to add more of them. rise has a fun mutant cast but most of them get reused a lot and
sorry if this doesn't really help much but thanks for asking!! i'm very excited for this fic and i wanna make it the best it can be. i wanna talk about this fic so much but also i dont wanna spoil everything before i get around to writing it so it's a fine balance between explaining enough to be useful and not explaining too much lol
honestly, any suggestions would be helpful. just giving a place to start would help. i don't mind doing some research but i don't have firsthand experience with characters outside of rise, mutant mayhem, and anyone in the first three-ish seasons of 87
thanks again for the ask!!

mami tomoe for the character ask hehehe
First impression: The first time watching PMMM was ages ago and I didn't watch it all the way through then but one thing I do remember about that time was legitimately not believing Mami was dead. Like I thought the show was faking me out bc I didn't think they would kill off a character from the intro three eps in (it's important to know here that I didn't realize that PMMM was only 12 eps total; I thought there were more and Netflix just had the first season or smth. The only other anime I'd been into before that was BNHA and FMAB so I kind of thought all animes were long)
Impression now: All the PMMM characters are tragic in their own ways but in Mami's case what gets me is how she was just starting to open up at the time of her death. Most of the time she tries so hard to seem like the mature, responsible one who others can lean on, but in reality she's literally just a 9th grader whose life is in danger on a daily basis. She's so scared of burdening others but then she finally does admit to Madoka that she needs help, and then immediately gets fucking. chomped. The futility of it all messes with me
Favorite moment: Her confession to Madoka always and forever. The "I don't deserve [your admiration]; you should find a better role model" bit is soooo telling about her self esteem. And what's so ironic here is that Mami was very clearly afraid that admitting weakness to Madoka would make Madoka feel obligated to help her out as a magical girl even if she didn't want to (the fate Mami was already stuck with). But in opening up to Madoka is Mami's actually giving Madoka more autonomy, bc with more information Madoka can make a more informed choice about whether she wants to be a magical girl! The "refusing to accept help when you need it actually hurts the people you're trying to help" theme that's later prevalent with Sayaka is also very visible here. (On a very different note, my second fave Mami moment is her gunfight with Homura in Rebellion purely bc it was sick)
Idea for a story: I would say I want to see her interact more with Kyoko but I am aware that that literally happens at some point in the manga that I haven't read (set in one of Homuras other timelines iirc) so
Unpopular opinion: I feel like people underestimate Mami's importance on Sayaka's arc? Ik I've talked abt this before but it still stands. Sayaka not being there during aforementioned scene with Madoka and thus unquestionably believing Mami to be this virtuously selfless platonic ideal of a magical girl is soooo crucial. I think this combined with her survivor's guilt about Mami's death is a huge part of why Sayaka's Like That. IMHO Sayaka's way more like Mami than she thinks, it's just that neither of them are much like the idealized version of Mami that Sayaka thought was real (and also clearly had issues with guilt)
Favorite relationship: Sayaka but I've already talked about that so, Mami and Homura! I think I said to you once awhile back that what I find really tragic about them is that in another world without Madoka coming between the two they'd be friends, but they can't be here bc of their competing needs for companionship make them butt heads over her. And I don't remember if you ended up watching Rebellion so to say this in a way that avoids spoilers as much as possible, I feel like their portrayal there really confirms this interpretation. I wonder a lot how they interacted in early timelines when Homura wasn't so focused on solely Madoka
Favorite headcanon: If there is anything in canon that actually contradicts this ah well but I hc that she's not actually big on tea and has more just learned to tolerate it. Both bc it feels like it would be thematically fitting with her "wanting to appear mature even when it makes her miserable" thing and bc I'm a flavor of autistic wherein I don't like tea

That Lucy Knight ER post/analysis ... It's soooo good. And sooo much more heartbreaking.
ER is one of the best shows I've ever watched, with so many good stories, big and small. But Lucy...even after all these years, when I read, hear or think about ER, I think about Lucy dying. It was so devastating, but such moments, such tragedy made this show so damn good!
Well, done!
hi, anon!
thank you for your kind words! i'm glad you liked the post. is it wrong to say (given the subject matter) that i had fun making it? ;)
in all seriousness, i am right there with you on still being devastated by lucy, even going on twenty-three years later now.
i had watched er during its original run from its premiere in 1994 (when i was seven) but for the first several seasons was too young to really understand much of what i was seeing. it was only around the time that s5 started airing that i was finally old enough to really comprehend the larger stories, beyond just the simple patient-care interactions.
lucy, as a kind of audience surrogate, was the character i latched onto at that point—the first character i ever truly fell in love with.
her death in s6 honestly changed the chemistry of my brain.
i was thirteen years old at the time, and i couldn't stop obsessing. without realizing that that's what i was doing, i wrote fanfic and meta about it. rewatched old episodes—lovingly recorded on vhs during the summer rerun season—and had my little mind blown as i realized that so many of her early scenes suddenly seemed to have been imbued with increased significance in light of her eventual death. i turned the story over and over again in my mind, thinking through all of the myriad ways it broke my heart.
looking back, i learned so much about the function of tragedy and the structure of tragic narratives from (over)thinking so much about her character arc and its culmination, so it seemed only fitting to pay tribute.
making that post, i was reminded of how many moments there were during s5 and s6—even beyond the ones i included in the set—that foreshadowed her ultimate fate.
in a lot of ways, hers is a circular or even chiastic narrative, replete with callbacks and repeated themes, everything seeming to work together to bring her to one inevitable end.
it's almost hard to believe that her death wasn't planned from the beginning, given how tight those story elements are with her.
she is very much a girl marked to die from the beginning.
it's a tribute to her and the writing of er that even over two decades later, her death still hits home in the way that it does not only for me but for so many fans.
it's truly one of the most memorable stories in the entire series.

oh no, not the horrors! here's something goofy and low-stakes to ponder: since you like both she-ra and four swords, how do you think the characters would interact with each other? hope you feel better soon!
Chfgdvfh thank you 🥺❤️❤️
Disclaimer it's been a hot minute since I watched SPOP (and I really need to watch it again but I can't deal with the emotional toll of the later seasons rn lol) so I can't remember everything BUT
Green and Adora have the same vibes fr. I def believe Green is one of those "My feelings don't matter if my suffering benefits society." Kinda dudes (these hoes need therapy so bad). Those two would definitely get along soooo well. Probably too well. Too much main character energy in one room.
Vio is the kinda mf who would end up in The Horde. Not because of evil alignment, but because of some convoluted series of events that left him there. He'd honestly find a lot of them to be good company imo. Entrapta's a bit too much for him but he does like to geek out with her. I think his favourite person would be Double Trouble though. For homosexual reasons. You get it.
Red I wanna say would get along with all the princesses, but given he would get to interact with The Horde especially Scorpia. They would adore each other omg. She'd practically adopt the guy.
Blue is kinda tough but I honestly think he would get along with Glimmer the most. They both have the same No Bullshit kinda attitude and something about them just makes me think they'd gravitate toward one another. Also early Frosta (around the time of the princess prom ep) is 100% Bluecoded. (My partner and I would not shut up about it when we watched it lol).
And Shadow... oh dear Shadow. I mean do I even have to say it? You all know who he's kickin' with. Meow.

Out of ten what do you rate how much you like each teen wolf character
Okay This is definitely just me rambling and I'm missing a few characters but these are the ones that I know well enough to give an opinion on atm. {I've watched up to a few episodes of season 3}
(And I'm ignoring people like Kate and Gerard because I cannot express how much I hate them)
Scott Mccall - 8/10. He's super cool, definitely underrated in his own show. 😂
Stiles Stilinski - 10/10. Love him. His sarcasm. >>> he is so genuinely awesome!
Isaac Lahey - 20/10. I'm sorry he does no wrong. I love him.
Derek Hale - 9/10. He's great. Please stop being soooo grumpy.
Allison Argent - 6/10. I loved her and then she injured Isaac and like yea she was justifiably angry but I'm still holding a grudge. Other than that so far she's pretty cool tho!
Lydia Martin - 7/10. She's awesome. A bit mean at times but I love her for it. 😂
Theo Raeken - 8/10. Haven't actually met his character yet but I know a decent amount about him. He deserves better 🥹
Liam Dunbar - 9/10. Once again haven't officially met him but I've seen clips and he is so cute 🥹💀 I love him!
Malia Tate/Hale - 8/10. She seems cool. I don't know her character very well yet.
Melissa Mccall - 10/10. Love her!!! She is truly amazing!! She's a great mum. 😌 Can she be my mum pleaseee.
Noah Stilinski - 10/10. I love him so far!!! PLEASE ADOPT ME. 🥹 Seriously I want him to be my father!!!
Coach - 9/10. He's so damn funny 😂😂😂
Chris Argent - 6/10. Almost positive he gets better at it goes on, I don't dislike him but he's not my favourite.
Peter Hale - 8/10. I should hate him from where I am but I've seen clips of him and I can't help but love him. He's so funny.
Erica Reyes - 8/10. She's so pretty!!! 🥹 I love her!!!
Deaton - 7/10. I've seen very little interactions with him but he's pretty cool from what I've seen. He in a way reminds me of my mum. (no I will not be elaborating 😂)
Aiden & Ethan - 5/10. I've been told I'll end up liking them but for now I'm holding a grudge. (to be fair the first time I saw them they sent my favourite character to the hospital?!)
Jackson Whitmore - 6/10. He gets better after the early seasons. I don't know him great in the later seasons but from what I have seen he gets a lot better after Lydia rather than during dating her.
Danny - 8/10. I can't explain why I like his character so much. I just do. 😂

Ted Lasso for the fandom asks ❤️
the character i least understand: ooh this is a hard one!! i genuinely feel that most of the characters are so fleshed out and fascinating that i can understand them to some extent. maybe i'll have to go with james tartt sr. bc i have no interest in attempting to understand him.
interactions i enjoyed the most: soooo many!! keeley and rebecca is a perennial fave bc i see so much of my real-life friendships in theirs, and then of course jamie and roy is a genuine delight whether i choose to interpret them platonically or romantically. specific interactions i loved were ted's "be a goldfish" advice to sam, the whole team fixing sam's restaurant, any background jamie & sam moment, the jamie teaching roy to ride a bike scene, the Boot Room Breakdown, and any Team Himbo moment. also jamie and his mum (& simon!) is, probably, one of the unexpected absolute HIGHLIGHTS of season 3. give me more of them now.
the character who scares me the most: james tartt sr. i don't think this needs to be explained. rupert doesn't really scare me, but the general type of person that his character is based on, and how often those people in real life are allowed to get away with the behaviors he exhibits in the show, certainly does.
the character who is mostly like me: oh gosh! this is a tricky one. i think i have a bit of various characters in me -- i am very much like ted in that i use humor/positivity as a shield against, um. worse emotions. i also deeply relate to keeley in regards to her specific brand of agency; she's powerful yet silly and that's so important to me bc that IS me. and then sam, my beloved. i see a lot of my own general outlook on life in him, and i also get him so hard in the scenes where he doesn't handle his emotions too well and just. breaks down. soooo relatable ! (ditto for jamie's boot room breakdown).
hottest looks character: is this a contest? if so, keeley and jamie are WINNING. the competition does not even EXIST.
one thing i dislike about my fave character: jamie my love, the you of s1 will forever and always be a twat. i adore that boy but good god, his early behavior was horrible, particularly towards sam. insert lookhowfartheyvecome.png.
one thing i like about my hated character: technically my most hated character is james tartt sr. but i have nothing good to say about him so. rupert: your darth vader pinterest inspo board will always be fascinating to me.
a quote or scene that haunts me: "jesus. must've been traumatizing." "no, she loved it. oh, for me -- sorry, me, you mean. no. i don't know. i don't remember." // the wembley locker room scene // "thank you. and fuck you." // "you're not lost, my sexy little baby. you just aren't sure what direction you're going in. yet."
a death that left me indifferent: thankfully this is not that kind of show! i guess rebecca's dad's death didn't really affect me bc we didn't ever know him -- but god, rebecca herself destroyed me in that ep.
a character i wish died but didn’t: james tartt sr. i maintain that it would have been fascinating if jamie had received news his dad had died just before they played man city, kicking off his mental spiral bc do i have to plan a funeral for him? does he deserve that? do i deserve that? and essentially grappling with the fact that he isn't sure exactly what he should feel in regards to his father's death. ofc this would have ended with a rejection of the 'forgive him <3' mentality and allowed jamie to fully and truly just. let go of his dad. forever. without guilt. (@ ted lasso writers room: LET ME IN!!! LET ME INNNNN!!!!!!)
my ship that never sailed: honestly? i know this fandom is very tied to its ships, and i get that -- i was truly rooting for keeley and roy to get back together, and i can see the appeal of royjamie or royjamiekeeley. HOWEVER. i am, in the end, grateful that the show prioritized its platonic relationships over its romantic ones. for me, platonic friendships/queerplatonic relationships are never given the attention or respect they deserve and i adore them. they're so much more fascinating to me! i appreciate that the show left most of its romantic/potentially romantic relationships ambiguously defined bc it gives us, as fans, the ability to interpret the characters and their dynamics how we choose.
thank you for the ask! 💗💗💗
