#the way you draw them op… so incredible!!

okay so. i challenged myself to try and draw some snakes and try to capture the features i want to stand out for them. i wanted to see if i could make them all look distinct but where its obvious they look extremely similar.
Tumblr media
heres the main lineup but i want to get into design elements for them as well as some personal headcanons.
FIRST! bibo.
Tumblr media
okay so. i'm going to toot my own horn here. i think his beard looks so fire and i did a good job. i imagine this design is around the portable ops era... not much else to say because most of the interesting stuff (at least to me) comes from the differences the others have from him.
V!!! I LOVE YOU V!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
for venom snake, i made him look like big boss but Something's Off. in the game people often (notably huey and the boss' ai) don't recognize him as big boss for a few seconds. an imperfect replica because you cannot get that close with plastic surgery. i made the fat distribution on his neck a bit different from bibo's because i imagine the way that the human body configures itself is hard to change. if you noticed the little snake-tongue-shaped-hair-doohickeys, he is the only one with a slightly different shape. it's a genetic thing, you wouldn't get it. just thought that was silly. his hair texture is different, too. can u tell i like him a lot. also, my favorite detail might be his different nose shape. they never got bibo's nose right i guess. in mgsv, he actually has a bit of a downturned nose, and i honestly don't think i captured that enough.
TIME FOR MY FAVORITE BOY. LOVE OF MY LIFE. HOLDER OF MY GENDER ENVY. solid snake :3
Tumblr media
SNAVID! the most obvious difference here is his nose. he broke it as a kid lol. i love headcanons. there's not as much to say about him as with venom, but i can say that he is incredibly handsome and i like him. i think he is cute. was he free yesterday? if so i would like to have dinner yesterday with him yesterday. well... i will say that out of this specific lineup i think he looks the most like good old dad. which is awful and i feel bad for him.
FINALLY: LIQUID!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
i gave him his canonical sharp nose and high cheekbones! i based a lot of his features off how he looked as a kid so he really has little shit vibes about him. he also has thinner eyebrows, and i headcanon that he does them himself lol. he has less sideburny sideburns than his brother. his eyelids are also smaller. he also does look kinda like kaz so its plausible that he tricked dave! yippee! i also like drawing his hair. its such a great hairstyle. it reminds me of a lion's mane.
N E WAYS... i hope you enjoyed me rambling about giving these goobers a more realistic design for future reference. i like talking about this kind of stuff. life is so much better without same face syndrome.

hii rose, okay... hear me out!!
can you do that chubby reader with prime + thigh squeezing scenario, nsfw or just suggestive?
thank you!
TFP Optimus x chubby!fem!reader
i am such a slut for OP’s love of thighs… send tweet.
Warnings: Thigh fucking/non-penetrative sex.
Word Count: 1211
It has become increasingly evident that Optimus has become… infatuated with you. You noticed his stares, the way they would linger for just a moment over your frame before snapping himself out of a trance and clearing his vocaliser. The little hitches in his breath when he would pick you up in his servos. You found it quite endearing and hard to believe you could turn this stoic mech into putty just by existing.
But you better start believing, especially right now, as Optimus’s grip on both of your thighs is ever-present.
You weren’t sure how you both ended up in this predicament, but you felt that it was the sheer thigh-high stockings you wore to the base that day, paired with a short skirt that only barely came down to your mid-thighs. Not that you were trying to get his attention, no, absolutely not. You totally didn’t want Optimus to become a stuttering mess at how the stockings hugged your plump skin and how their tightness caused your fat to spill over the edges slightly.
“You don’t know what you are doing to me.” Optimus shakily breathes as his servos massage your sheer-covered thighs, eliciting soft moans from you.
He kneels between your spread legs, hungry optics flickering between your exposed breasts and soft tummy. At some point, he had pressurised his spike and allowed it to rest heavily between the crevice of your groin and inner thigh. It jumps and throbs against your skin with every squeeze of your flesh, tiny drops of pre-cum forming at the head. Your skirt has long been disregarded, tossed somewhere behind the mech, and your underwear, leaving you completely bare save for the thigh highs, which sends Optimus absolutely reeling.
It was a captivating sight watching him lose his self-control, one that you couldn’t resist as your own hands dragged down to his weeping member.
“If your spike is any indication, I think I know what I’m doing to you.” You whisper as your fingertips draw circles around the head, teasing him and causing his hips to buck against your thigh. His breath's soft moans and hitches were hot, and you were determined to draw more noise out of him.
“Y/n… please.” He groans, gripping the fat of your upper thighs as you tease his spike, “Frag, you’re so soft.”
You have him incredibly worked up, watching his hips buck against both your inner thigh and hand become more eager. And it was at this moment that an idea sparked in your mind, an idea that you were sure Optimus would thoroughly enjoy.
“If you like my thighs so much,” You say, a small smile creeping on the corner of your lips. Before you continue, you push your thighs together, trapping Optimus’s spike between your legs, “How about you frag them?”
Optimus lets out a loud moan, and it’s music to your ears. His spike pressing flush against your hot core is a pleasant sensation alone, but having your soft thighs strangling his spike takes this encounter to another level.
“Oh, Primus…” He actually whimpers. He trails his grip from your thighs to your hips and grips the soft skin, “Are you positive? I’m unsure if I can contain myself if I proceed with your request.”
To answer his question, you drag your thighs up his spike, squeezing as you do so. The drops of pre-cum lubricate your skin, making it slippery enough. The sensation causes his optics to roll to the back of his helm, and he squeezes his eyes shut. The servos resting on your hips gripped you tightly, and you were sure you would bruise.
Keeping your legs squeezed shut, you watch as Optimus draws his hips back through your thighs and pistons his hips forward, once, twice, three times before he grabs at your calves and lifts them so that they are in the air.
“By the hnngh- Primes…” He grunts and hugs them as he continues to fuck your thighs. You moan out with him as the plating along the underside of his throbbing spike drags across your slick, “You’re… f-frag, you’re squeezing me incredibly… tight.”
You weren't going to lie. The sight of Optimus’s spike disappearing and reappearing between your slick thighs is probably the hottest thing you have ever seen, and you can tell that he was enjoying himself if his scrunched-up face and hitched vents were anything to go by.
“You like that baby?” You moan out, voice stuttering as the force of his thrusts causes you to bounce, plump breasts and stomach jiggling, giving Optimus an incredible sight.
He tried so hard to use his voice box to tell you how much he was enjoying himself, but it failed him. The feeling of your thighs wrapped around his spike overwhelms his processor, in disbelief that his erotic fantasy of fucking them is happening right now. At a half-attempt to ground himself, he removes his left servo from your calf to massage one of your breasts, his remaining arm circling both legs to give him more leverage to drive his weeping member through your soft thighs forcefully.
Optimus is close to finishing as his thrusts become more feverish and rough, optics squeezed shut as he desperately chases his high. And fuck, his little breathy whimpers of your name make your heart swell, knowing that you can please him and bring him to your knees with just a touch of your soft skin. You take the liberty to use both of your hands to palm at his spike as it reappears through your thigh, to which he lets out a guttural moan.
“Y/n... hnngh- Primus!” He cries. It doesn’t take him long to overload with your added hands, his entire frame convulsing and shattering against you as his overload wracks his body. His spike shoots hot trans fluid across your stomach and breasts, some smearing in between your thighs as he rocks his hips, drawing out his overload for as long as possible.
You gasp and moan at the warm feeling of his fluids as it coats your soft skin in long spurts. Although you didn’t get to orgasm, the sight of Optimus reaching his own is enough to satisfy you for the moment.
After a few moments of euphoria, the rocking of Optimus’s hips ceased. He slowly opens his optics and hitches his vents at the sinful sight of you coated in his transfluids, groaning as it causes his spike to jolt between your thighs again.
“How was that, baby?” You grin, reaching your arms up to wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him down to allow his entire body weight to collapse atop you. The warmth of his usually cool metal is a nice touch accompanied by the pressure of his frame.
“Exemplary.” Optimus hums, burying his faceplate into your neck and inhaling your sweet scent, “I did not hurt you?”
“Not at all,” You say, resting your chin against his helm, “I liked it, but I definitely need a shower… if you’re not too tired.”
“I am not opposed to the idea of joining you,” He smiles against the nape of your neck before tilting his head up to meet your half-lidded eyes, “After all, I still need to return the favour.”

Random fandom thoughts/feelings
The reblog button is turned off on this post but I think it's another incredibly important one to be thinking about. I enjoy their framing of how the profit economy of other social media sites has been bleeding into fandom spaces on both tumblr, and like this post focuses on, Ao3. It's something that I've been noticing more and more and it really rubs me the wrong way and I feel like OP's post words it perfectly in a way I've been struggling to express.
This sort of connects the previous post I reblogged on the topic talking about how fandom is not a good in road for becoming internet famous.
A facet of this that's really bamboozled me recently is that I feel like i've been seeing more and more of is the idea that a singular person has a right to call "dibs" on a specific piece of media. Which is honestly totally fucking wild to me and if I'm being totally frank kind of dumb.
Every single one of us who interacts with fandom and by extent and IP is flirting with copy right law, the consequences of which everyone should be extremely familiar with by now with the fall of LJ and various lawsuits by authors, dmca notices, etc.
We have all heard the adage "there's no such thing as an original idea"; the idea that everything we create is the amalgamation of all the things that influence us, good and bad.
This is totally normal and good, actually.
For example, if I and another person both watch a TV show, see a production photograph that we really like and decide to draw it and post them one after the other it would be considered extremely bad behaviour to then turn around and make a big stink about how someone else had the gall to turn around and draw the same thing that I did. We can all look at a picture, video, lyrics to a song, become inspired and create something wildly different based on our tastes and influences--but we also are equally, if not more so, likely to create something nearly identical to our peers, especially in a fandom space where ideas are concentrated and we are all consuming each other's thoughts, opinions, and creations. More than once I've come up with an idea for a fic or a drawing that someone else had had a nearly identical execution of without us communicating or viewing each other's work. That's just the way the human brain works, we're hard wired to make connections in a fairly similar way.
You do not have a right to call dibs on any one photograph, clip of video, song lyrics or any other bit of media you might consume.
This stands for artists, writers, gif makers, AMV creators, and any other way you choose to express your love of fandom creatively.
If you are really hard pressed to focus on the numbers and work at being ~influential~ the burden is on you to distinguish yourself creatively.
There's a reason why not being able to see follower counts is so important to the way fandom and tumblr functions. The concept of ~small creators~ and ~big creators~ or BNF or whatever are all burdens you place on yourselves. No one is taking anything away from you by engaging with the same bit of media you are in a similar way. We all have a right to express ourselves creatively and emotionally through any snippet of media that sparks our interest. You do not get to "own it" just because you happened to pump something out first. There are no creative "dibs". This isn't even some sort of "fandom" etiquette thing that has gone thus unspoken. It's a strange possessive thing that I've seen crop up more and more as the idea of being a capital "C" Creator brain rots people's minds and atrophies their ability to be creative.
Sort of on a tangent, but I have a bunch of other personal random thoughts about how this push to be prolific stagnates fandom, but these are more complicated for me and I'm not as clear on how I want to express them. On one had I am completely on board with the "there is no such thing as cringe" mindset and that everyone has a right to create whatever super indulgent thing they want to without having to suffer people being snobby about it. But, on the other hand I feel very strongly that the cycle of people seeing one trope or characterization being repeated repeated over and over and gaining popularity, reading only that--writing only that--leading others to also only consume that, really stymies creativity and makes it harder to grow the fandom if people that are trying to enter aren't into That One Thing, while also ostracizing people who are already in the fandom that aren't into That One Thing. I strongly believe that people's tastes are at least 70% just what they're exposed to, and obviously not everyone is going to be into whatever weird niche concept they're exposed to through fandom, but the more they are the more opportunity they have to expand that horizon. I don't know how many times I've gotten a version of the "I wasn't sure I would like this but I gave it a shot and it turns out I really love it!" and how good that feels and how much I wish other people were emboldened to do the same instead of being so wrapped up in how their work may or may not be received.
This is mostly a subjective thing though, so it's less cut and dry. Like for example, I really struggle with engaging with transgender fic despite being transgender myself because of the way most AFAB fic is written to the point where I avoid it now almost entirely. Which, frankly, really fucking sucks but also I will be the first person to fight for other's ability to write transgender characters wether they appeal my personal feelings and taste or not.
Anyway, this is one of the reasons I'm so protective of fandom community events, especially ones that employ aspects of the fandom gift economy such as exchanges. There are one of the few wholly un self-centred places left where the focus is on gifting someone something they will love and giving back to the fandom at large by flooding it with art and opportunities appreciation and engagement with each other. It is not supposed to be an opportunity for you to think about yourself and "getting something good" in return or using it a convenient deadline. It also offers you an opportunity to engage with fic tropes and genres that you've never considered writing or reading before.
TL;DR if you've found yourself recently squabbling over how many notes your gifs, art, writing, etc. has been getting compared to other people instead of focusing on forging community ties and your own creative expression, I'm sorry to say you're doing it wrong.

How did you study about military gear? I'm currently trying & searching sources and looking for some tips.
I really like your work btw. Keep going✨️
Hi! Thank you so much, I'm excited to share some knowledge with someone. <3 I tried summing up methods that have helped me the most: 1. lots of research (vids, blogs, magazines, loadout lists,...) 2. store/product photos 3. military photos (not airsoft!) 4. damtoy loadout showcase vids I first started off with doing extensive research on cod operators. Cosplay guides by shadeops21 (DeviantArt) are a huge help with the most accurate loadout lists.
Next step was looking up product photos & studying the functions, shapes, different angles. Store/product photos are my most used refs, they're in high resolution & you'll see every detail thanks to a well lit environment. I also collect military pics in one huge folder, not only for pose refs & inspo, but also as refs on how the gear is used. Product photos will lay flat, worn gear will always look different!
Make sure to learn how to differentiate airsoft from real military pics, airsofters (except for dedicated reenactors/milsimers) tend to have wacky tastes (ugly, black amazon gear and fake, glowing NVGs,...).
The gear of Damtoys is incredibly accurate & precise, watching videos of the dolls being dressed will also give you an idea on how accs (pouches, glow sticks, radio systems, ...) are attached to the equipment.
My strongest interests lay in SOF, so I'll also collect magazines with expert info, insights & loadout descriptions (K-ISOM (German) SPECIAL OPS (Polish)). To my advantage, I do have friends who are either huge military nerds or in active duty, I'll sometimes ask them questions and learn about the features and (dis)advantages of various pieces of gear. It's a life hack, but you'll achieve your goal either way if you're determined!
After you got a feel for the basics, you can start accommodating knowledge. Study drawing/recognizing the most used equipment first, western modern kits are very repetitive (as the products are so good, they don't need to be replaced). Headsets: 3M Peltor ComTac, Sordin, Ops-Core AMP Helmets: Ops-Core, Crye AirFrame, Team Wendy, MICH 2000 Plate carriers: Crye JPC, Crye AVS, First Spear, Lindnerhof, AGILITE, LBT Slick & 6094 Gloves: Oakleys, PIG FDT Alpha, Mechanix, Petzl, Nomex flight gloves, Outdoor Research Ironsight After that you can start looking up more niche or less iconic brands and gear, you'll be a nerd in no time. I hope this is helpful and I'm sorry for the late reply. If you ever need help or info on something, feel free to dm me on Twitter or Tumblr!

Let me preface this: I'm an architecture major
I used to be a big LO fan but obviously fell out of love of it like a lot of us did, and I know LO uses SketchUp for backgrounds. That is not an issue I have with the comic or any comic, I want artists to have an easier time in any way they can. I was always under the impression Rachel imported the models into Photoshop and drew over them like you can see in the early episodes with the sketchy lines. Well, school just started recently for me and I now have access to SketchUp for my coursework, and I made a few discoveries: 1. Photoshop cannot read SketchUp files, and while you can import them into Clip Studio through some configuring, they can be finicky and will lose parts in the importing process, so they are best used into the original SketchUp program to export as PNGs. 2. Many of the models Rachel uses are incredibly easy to find, especially if you put "modern", "luxury", or "classy" before the main part of the search. Many of the houses and rooms for example are first page results. 3. The biggest discovery: You know how we all assumed Rachel was hand-drawing all the lines over the SketchUp models and how she gave up the longer LO went on? Well, it's actually worse. It turns out SketchUp has a thing called "Styles" in it, which means you can mess with the lines and look of the model, such as making it look more like a blueprint or playing with the colors. Well, they have a lot of styles on SketchUp known as "sketchy lines", which are the exact ones Rachel used early in the comic to fit with her style, and it takes a literal click of a button to do. All she would do is pose the model, click the sketchy line style, and export the PNG. That's it. So, yeah, Rachel is so checked out of the comic that she can't even bother to click a single button to make the models fit into the comic's style anymore. Use that information however you like.
Ouhhh sorry OP, I'm about to like, undo all the work you just put into that ask. We've already known about the 3D background problem for a long while now.
First off, it's more likely LO doesn't use SketchUp but actually Acon3D, which is a website that offers 3D models both for free and at cost, which are actually compatible with software like Clip Studio. As soon as you open it up you'll likely see a lot of very familiar backgrounds that are often used in romances, isekais, and period pieces. It's literally the go-to spot for Webtoon Originals creators. Like, to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if Naver was partnered with them because of how many of their creators use it.
Second, there's plenty of up-to-date evidence to support the fact that Rachel doesn't exclusively stick to one software, sometimes she's drawing in Photoshop, sometimes she's drawing in Clip Studio Paint, sometimes she's drawing in Procreate. She's undoubtedly using Clip Studio for her paneling, speech bubbles, and backgrounds, as there are built in tools to utilize and convert 3D materials into lineart, among other features that are recognizable as coming from CSP because they're not available in PS or Procreate.
Third, yes, she just uses filters to turn her backgrounds into lineart, this has been apparent since S1. The only backgrounds she's ever 'hand drawn' were the ones involving lots of nature and even those are mostly just Photoshop brushes stamped on.
Tumblr media
Like I realize I'm probably bursting your bubble here and I apologize for that lmao but these buildings were never hand-drawn, this is not new information ( ̄﹏ ̄;) I appreciate you mentioning your own experiences with it as you're learning it though, I find once you start to learn the process yourself you really start to notice what others are doing. Even I've gone through that over the past couple years as I started to use 3D models and more advanced tools specifically for drawing webtoons.
I will mention btw, there's nothing wrong with using 3D models for your character drawing and backgrounds. The only time it tends to get frustrating is when you're reading a comic that isn't making any attempts to blend the background in with the art style.
Like, The Kiss Bet probably uses 3D models to help with perspective and laying out scenes quickly without second-guessing, but you can tell they still hand-draw over the models because they look natural and like they belong to the comic's stylization. The characters don't look out of place sitting in a living room and the living room doesn't look distracting.
Tumblr media
But then you get stuff like Lore Olympus, Let's Play, and Midnight Poppy Land, and it becomes a bit more obvious they're not giving a shit about backgrounds lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I get it, WT's deadlines are cutthroat as fuck, but if it's getting to the point that you have an entire team behind you and you're literally just copy pasting video game models from Phantom Hourglass, then it's probably time to re-focus your priorities a bit. There are comics with as few as 1-2 assistants (and even in some cases no assistants at all!!) pulling off backgrounds better than this, even when they're taking shortcuts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Nevermore and City of Blank)
But a lot of that does come down to how WT manages its expectations as well as support for their creators. The deadlines and requirements WT puts their creators under are insane and awful in the long-term, and they're not acting with the amount of professionalism they ought to be for a platform that's trying to breakout as a major publisher here in the West. I feel like it comes down to WT loosening the choke chain around their creators, but also creating a standardized level of quality to ensure it's not suffering for the sake of quantity. The traditional literature industry has real editors and stages of quality control for a reason, whereas WT is more interested in just throwing as many series at the wall and dumping all their stock into the ones that stick.

Hei. Do you think there’s version of Knuckles that’s immortal? In some versions he was possible created by the Master Emerald and is her child/vessel/guardian, so I think the ME keeps him alive infinitely for protection, entertainment (gets boring being alone) and caretaking of Angel island (and occasionally the world).
I am an equal opportunity Knuckles enjoyer! I love all versions of the boy, from cryptid-esque mainline!Knux, to buff himbo Boom!Knux, to different-backstory-but-equally-adorable movie!Knux, to over-the-top almost self-destructive Dread. My beloved.
So, I am very familiar with the headcanon/fan theory that the ME actually created mainline!Knuckles, and he's not quite right. He's not a normal echidna, and holds many (again, fan headcanoned) quirks and abilities that come with being an ME created person.
He is able to sense, and control, the chaos energy that surrounds all things. He himself is just filled to the brim with it, but he never draws on it, as that would make him dangerously OP in battles. But he could, if he really needed to.
His connection to the ME is different from any other guardian before him, because he was created by the ME itself. His tether to it is stronger, as they are, in essence, one in the same. He's her avatar, her connection to the mortal plane, and maybe through him, she can understand mortals a little better than she had before. Time is meaningless for a giant magic rock, but through Knuckles, she can see the ripples created through the actions of a few special souls.
So, as a 'child' of the Master Emerald, is Knuckles immortal? There's a very good chance he is. The incredible amount of chaos within him would keep him healthy, keep him fit, keep him strong and capable of guarding the ME for as long as she deems it. She is immortal, an object without start or end, so it stands to reason that she would make him to be as long-lasting as she is.
Now, that doesn't mean Knuckles has 'always been'. I'm not sure how long ago she created him, but I have a fic theorizing how that went. Maybe she created him hundreds of years ago. Or maybe she created him when she felt the upcoming birth of Sonic. (She can see all of time, and that hedgehog's influence in the time stream must seem like dropping a boulder in a puddle.)
Sonic himself seems to be a force of chaos, the unpredictable wind that behaves however he pleases, so she created Knuckles as the counter to try and temper Sonic's unpredictability. The mountain to Sonic's chaotic influence. She was ignorant in the ways of mortals, after all, and what she saw was a little hog being a big source of disturbance. She needed her avatar to try and reign in the boy in.
Little did she know that Sonic's influence would have an effect on her guardian.
Sonic taught Knuckles how to enjoy life. And that sometimes you have to leave where you're most comfortable to fight the bigger evil.
It's entirely possible that Knuckles is immortal, and he'll watch his friends pass on, one by one. Maybe they'll fall in battle, fighting Eggman or whatever evil threatens their home and other innocents. Maybe they'll pass when they've grown old, surrounded by loved ones, secure in the knowledge they've kept the planet safe for future generations.
But Knuckles will remain.
And maybe he'll want to keep his memories, holding them dear to his heart as he goes on, teaching their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, passing on the knowledge he'd gained over the years.
And maybe he'll beg the ME to take his memories. Keep them safe, but please, please take them. They hurt him too much, to remember what he's lost. To know that his friends all grew old, and he stayed young and healthy. To watch as their light flickered and went out, as his continued to burn solid and bright.
He has fought countless battles, defeated untold enemies.
But one he can't defeat is grief.
And he can't deal with it. Not now. It hurts. It hurts too much. He doesn't want to feel this, doesn't want to make new friends if this is how it feels when he ultimately outlasts them.
And maybe the ME does take his memories. And things are fine for a while.
But then, one day, a newcomer arrives on Angel Island. Perhaps a descendant of one of his first friends. And they seem familiar to Knuckles, somehow, but he tries to get rid of them. They're stubborn, though. They remain and talk to him, telling him of the stories passed down, of the guardian of the Master Emerald, the one who fought all those years ago, alongside the other heroes of Mobius. Did he know that guardian?
And maybe Knuckles pauses. He didn't want to remember. But they came anyway, as the ME gently replaces just a few at first. Just the ones he needed to remember.
And he nods and says, "I am he. I knew them."
Which starts a new connection with new friends, born of his old.
And life will go on for the immortal guardian. And he will live for those who have moved on.
Because that is all he can do.
But maybe . . . maybe that is what he was truly made for.

I DID IT! @kay1mi , IT IS FINALLY DONE!
Tumblr media
MA BOI, the man, the myth, the legend. The one and only ✨️ Ste'eve ✨️
This took me way too long, but I am happy with the result. Ste'eve is my Tav from the co-op campaign with @something-something-sonnschein . He's a human bard soldier, and he is romancing my favorite wizard, Gale. I'm gonna add some backstory under the cut for anyone interested. I'm just incredibly happy I finally finished this drawing :D
Also, a big thanks to you, Kay, for even motivating me to draw again <3
So, for more lorrrreeeee:
This scene is before the events of BG3 back when Ste'eve and Asuka served in the military. The only reason Ste'eve even joined the military was because both his father and grandfather served, and so he was also expected to join. Originally, Ste'eve even was thrilled when he was sent to the military academy, but as he grew older, his views of the military changed, and he became more pacifistic which made him a bullying target among his peers. Instead of becoming the fighter his family expected him to be, he discovered his musical talent and became a bard instead, so he could still honor his parents wish to be in the military without having to do much killing and rather focusing on healing. Eventually, he joined the same battalion as Asuka, where they both met and became best friends almost immediately. They both have different views on certain things, but as a team, they work together perfectly. The battalion was actually more or less a dump for all unwanted soldiers, mostly due to racism because most of that battalion were either Drow or Tieflings. Eventually, a plot was set in motion to kill off the entire battalion by leading them to their own doom, which happened shortly after this drawing scene. Both Asuka and Ste'eve survived barely, but unfortunately, none of their other friends made it. They both then escaped to live a short life of music and travel before they got kidnapped by the mindflares at the beginning of BG3.
So technically speaking, Ste'eve is presumed dead.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. If you want to hear more about Ste'eve, hit me up, I can supply for both before and after the events of BG3 (technically also during).

sigh.
@lunapegasus on January 5th 2024 tagged a post I created an image description for with:
prev it's really nice of you to add the image desc. and everything but maybe don't tell op what to do?
The tags I add to posts that I make descriptions for:
Please copy and paste into the original post for accessability, no credit needed! It should just stay in plain text like it is now, without being put in italics bold or color, and go directly below the image, and above the caption. Image descriptions are for the visually impaired and blind, the way subtitles are for the deaf and hard of hearing. A plain text image description in the body of the post itself is more accessible than just ALT text. The image description should not go under a read more as that is inaccessible, and if you change your URL or delete the original post, everything under the read-more will be lost forever.
In the nicest way possible, @lunapegasus, this is the fastest way you could have possibly said you don't care about disabled people besides flat out saying it :(
Did you even read the tags? Do you not understand why I take the time to write these, and why I ask people to add them to the original posts? Have you never seen the posts of people who need these descriptions begging artists to add them so they can enjoy art of their favorite characters along with everyone else? Have you never seen a single post by a disabled person begging to be included?
I am not ordering anyone to do anything when I add image descriptions to their art, my tags are there so that people know they can add the ID to the original post, because many people think "stealing" image descriptions is rude, and so that people know why they are created in the first place.
Image descriptions are accessibility tools that allow disabled people, especially those who are visually or cognitively impaired, to interact with art on the internet.
I take time out of my day to make art more accessible to other disabled people because I care about other disabled people and want to help artists who don't know how or why image descriptions are made in the first place.
Please do not act like I am bossing people around or being rude by adding image descriptions to other people's art and asking people to add them to the original post so that the internet can become a slightly less hostile place for disabled people to exist.
If you wouldn't react this way to any other accessibility tool, don't act like this in regards to image descriptions. It's just showing you have no regard for disabled people who need these tools, and is incredibly disrespectful and hurtful to see, when I spent so much time yesterday writing image descriptions for other people's art that I barely got time to draw any of my own, and ended up hurting my wrist doing so.
Come on, please. Think before you tag things like this.
Disabled people use the internet too, and it is completely uncalled for to act like we're being demanding and rude by asking for the bare minimum, while we are doing all the work for you in the first place and literally hurting ourselves in the process :/

tw: opinions.
sometimes i truly cannot stand videogame fandoms. the constant comparison towards the women is insane. i always find people arguing with me about ellie williams, ada wong and numerous others being ‘strong’ enough to beat lara croft in a fight.
first of all — all these women work completely different jobs. i don’t even know why ellie is being brought into the conversation, considering she hasn’t experienced anything like lara, and more so like ada, but not exactly. this brings in my first argument, really; she doesn’t share the same experiences considering she’s much younger than both lara and ada so let’s quickly draw her out of this!
second of all — regarding lara and ada. the reason i get into so many debates is because the people i’m talking to are usually hardcore aeon stans. which is fine, i’m not going to generalise, and really i couldn’t care less about who ships who. it’s just annoying, considering ada is heavily inspired by lara in many, many ways. lara is not just an archaeologist (you don’t see her digging up fossils and researching them. 🤦🏼‍♀️) she’s done many spy-like jobs like in tomb raider 7. i like ada, re4og ada is actually one of my favourite videogame characters, but definitely not the first. i don’t mean to say lara is better because my opinion wouldn’t apply to many people and another thing that irks me, these two brilliant women are from completely different videogames.
lastly, my actual thought on this debate? lara would win. i’m sorry, but let’s bring some facts into this. ada lacks upper body strength because she uses mainly grapple hooks and fireweapons, but this doesn’t mean to say she’s weak and can’t throw a good punch. it would just put her at a disadvantage, plus the heels she wears (which she rocks) but let’s be real for a moment here. ada is incredibly agile, she’s a fast runner and can think well in complicated situations similiar to leon which is an attribute i think they share, so her lower-body strength is really good. only problem is, she’d be versing a woman who literally has the best aerobic ability, both in the reboots and the classics. if you haven’t seen how high lara can jump, i suggest checking it out. she’s flexible, incredibly intelligent and sneaky, i can’t really give a comparison between the reboots and classics because she’s equally good in both.
another thing that puts ada at disadvantage, her arsenal. lara uses all sorts of fireweapons (rifles, launchers, sub machines, hand guns and etc.) , combat knives, archery gear, explosives, and of course, grapple hooks, climbing equipment— her hands and legs. in the resident evil four remake, ada wears that iconic sweater dress which tears quite easily in seperate ways, which also puts her at disadvantage as lara usually wears tactical gear that can protect her. her critical hit damage ranges from over 300% whereas ada’s (and leon’s and almost every other resident evil character) ranges from 25%. why? experience. she was born in 1968, which makes her older than ada in 2024.
so if some silly person were to ask me that immature question again, and actually wanted an honest answer; then yes, i do believe lara would beat ada, i do believe she would beat ellie and lots of others. even jill. but this is my opinion that’s based on facts that i’ve seen from playing the entire tomb raider triology.
but overall it’s a stupid thing to even discuss because it seems like i’m putting those women down. i’m not. they’re all strong in their own ways. if ada weren’t an anti-hero i believe she’d get along with lara, and it’s needless to say that ellie and lara would get along too, kind of in a claire and sherry way, and jill? honestly, i think they’d be best friends.
(by the way, i love leon so much, but he wouldn’t stand a chance against lara either. especially classic lara, who is practically op.)

Amazing background art by the incredibly talented @cutekoala1001. I commissioned her to draw The Salty Simiano, which is the restaurant from my Sing fanfic. I could not be happier with how it turned out!!! The colors, the lighting, the decorations, the angles, the way she fit so many features into one shot, just...all-around mind-blowing 🤯
As you all know by now, I am kind of obsessed with the anthro primate characters from the Sing movies. For my Sing universe I made up a Latin American-style cantina that welcomes all animals obviously but panders to primates; it is known as a monkey hangout in Red Shore City. It also features sugar skull-type art, except the skulls are of anthro animals 😂 In the picture, the larger skulls on the wall, window and floor are chimpanzee skulls. In the bar area, the two skulls behind the chairs are a deer and a crocodile, and the one by the menu is a dog. The one in the corner by the enclosed seating area is a koala. The area on the floor covered by the skull is a dance floor.
What I love about this piece is that, like all good art, it tells so many stories. I didn’t really flesh the restaurant out very much in my fic, and seeing it here really helps inspire me to create ideas for it:
• That little enclosed seating area by the tree is very cozy, so I can see it being a popular romantic place for  couples. But it’s also large enough to seat more than two, so I can also see it as a meeting place for friends.
• The restaurant has live music from time to time. Most of the bands are local Latino musicians, but since this is Red Shore City, you can also find visiting musician stars performing here from time to time.
• The band plays in front of the Salty Simiano logo. This allows for many photo ops, especially with the dance floor nearby.
• If the band knows that there is a romantic couple sitting somewhere, they will walk over to the couple and serenade them. They will also play music loudly in front of shy-looking patrons seated at the tables, insisting that they go out and dance.
• There’s one band that’s really sassy and heckles the crowd all night, in Spanish and English. The singer will butt into a dance and “steal” the guy’s partner from him and tell the girl that she could do better in terms of mates. He says this into his microphone so that everyone can hear him.
• The art in the restaurant is featured in numerous cultural publications in Red Shore City (magazines, etc.). The restaurant has also published a pamphlet that explains the history and meaning of the sugar skulls. Art students also come here for studies.
• The tree was already on the land before the building was constructed, and the tree was special to the restaurant owners (being monkeys). They didn’t want to cut the tree down, so they just constructed the building around the tree and made a skylight so that natural light could filter into the room. As the tree gets bigger, they will remove the tiles that surround it. They hired a professional landscaper to prune the tree in such a way that it will eventually grow through the roof, and they will renovate the building to accommodate the tree. I know this would never happen irl, but I’m kind of a hippy and would love to see this.
Thanks so much for doing such an amazing job on this, @cutekoala1001!

im not sure if anyone asked you yet, but thoughts on the dunmeshi anime?
thanks for asking! sometimes i forget i exist here as a person cuz i just log on to queue random stuff without making posts 💀
it's pretty rare for me to watch an anime without ever reading the manga, and there've been stellar adaptations recently. ONK, kisekoi, BTR, frieren, CSM just to name a few. in a landscape where we're used to being disappointed as readers who have a frame of reference before watching a show, i had very, very high hopes for the dunmeshi adaptations that weren't quite fulfilled.
i'll dump everything under a cut since i actually have a lot to say, sorry if you were expecting it to be brief 😎
the lines in the artistic style are good, nicely translating the characters into animated format. really no notes there. definitely a nicer comparison for char designs between manga and anime vs. tonsuki and tensura who both have incredible manga styles that the anime stumble over (though in the latter's case, i don't think they were aiming for it sadly)
the shading has been fine, but weakened by the colour choices. some of the dungeon scenes (e.g., living armour stuff) are lit with a medium blue which helps to sell the idea of the scene being in a place not lit by fire (and contrasts it with the making camp & cooking scenes), but the lack of dark shading flattens some of these very well-drawn images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the earlier chapters don't have the same level of detail as newer ones, but the art style is still fantastic - it's expressive with high contrast and shows action and impact perfectly well. manga will often times have a naturally easier way with contrast due to it being in black & white, but i don't think that means anime should just give up on contrast in favour of playing ineffectively with colour.
Tumblr media
here's a night shot of fern from frieren. the choices made here allow for the shading to stand out from the flats and give her more definition overall while still being relatively simple (just flats + shading)
Tumblr media
when dunmeshi has more "normal" lighting conditions, it does a lot better. similar to fern up there, there's about the same amount of difference between the flats and shadows, so i really wish they did a better job on the dungeon scenes since they're going to have to deal with non-torchlit scenes plenty. i won't argue that the living armor scene certainly has some kind of a sickly, alien mood to it, but tl;dr i think it should've had darker shading if not also being less green. this largely applies to every other blue-green lit scene they've done.
looking at kui's coloured drawings in the ed gives me an idea of what could've been and it makes me sad to lose out on colour choices more similar to that (even if they obviously can't have her level of detail on top of it)
some of the backgrounds haven't been too interesting but some have been good, overall it's probably fine. plus you can only draw and detail repeating bricks so many times before the viewer gets bored of looking at them anyway, i guess.
the animation is really fun and expressive. it's trigger, so they don't keep scenes stiffly on-model when they want characters moving around. this is good because it helps to sell both action and comedy moments!
the music overall i haven't really cared for? the BGM has not been particularly moving, interesting, or memorable - mostly generic. and i've seen too many fantasy shows for my own good, so i might be harder to impress (but i even remember tenken had a good BGM song or two to make a fight dramatic and that show was barely above average at best)
i'm biased not being particularly into bump, so i would've selected a different artist for the OP (i actually did like the bump OP from SxF though, come to think of it). before anyone makes a wisecrack based on what i've watched lately, no it doesn't have to be yoasobi.
i maybe feel the ED song would've been better for the OP, i don't like the largely peaceful bit of the OP with very still visuals. the OP is where you reel people in! it should be an eye-catching hook, representative of what to expect with some extra sauce on top.
the ED is great, total bop. it's a fine time for slower visuals as an enjoyable wind-down from the episode, so less or no animation is no big deal. plus kui's art is absolutely gorgeous! it all perfectly fits that "end of work" fun and lighthearted mood they were going for.
i largely enjoy the voice acting. i would've personally gone for a less "old man" voice on senshi because he's really not that old for a dwarf, but they obviously wanted to make it clear he was the older, wiser, knowledgeable character.
this might be my own personally most blasphemous opinion, but i would've picked a different VA for falin. i want to make it clear i absolutely adore saori hayami - she's incredible and one of my faves. with that said, her voice fits the character, so maybe it's just because i've heard her too often which is not her fault by any means! i love the voices for laios, marcille, and chil.
it seems netflix's subs go off of the official EN TL of the manga, which makes sense, but i've talked about how i don't like it more than ehscans' TL (which is one of the single best TLs i've read for a series, official or otherwise) and that holds true for the anime ("mad sorcerer" is cooler AND less clunky than "lunatic magician"). i prefer less localisation stuff and/or quirkiness in my subs and more direct translation for both manga and anime.
as for the changes/additions they've made to the show, some of them have been alright and some i didn't care for. they really want to sell marcille as the funny joke character which is why they had her being chased by the basilisk instead of having doni & fionil like it was in the manga which was better for the pacing and had good impact vs a funny clip of marcille running back and forth.
i don't dislike when adaptations add or change stuff, but placing them cleanly is important. dunmeshi is already really funny! i don't think it needs help being funnier by reaching for the cheap laugh. when laios sees two people running for their lives from a basilisk and he just goes "wow that's a bad way to run from that monster", it's already lowkey hilarious - all the more so followed by marcille telling mr. monster-know-it-all to go rescue them if he knows what's up and him rescuing them by making himself big and chicken squawking real loud (which embarrasses marcille and chil, but c'mon guys, at least his idea worked!). i feel like the comedy in laios' funny hero moment is undercut by forcing the marcille butt of the joke moment in the anime.
dunmeshi is already incredibly good at just about everything it does. i feel if an adaptation wants to add or change something, it's often better amplifying a strength or shoring up a weakness in the source material. BTR adds a lot to the source (not hard considering the source is a 4koma) and makes already funny things even funnier. the "we should all get social media" scene is elevated to iconic status with the visual of bocchi glitching out + the VA's inhuman screech. i can't say where i'd really want to change or add stuff to dunmeshi, since it really feels so good and whole, but i'm sure there's room in the process of translating manga panels to animated scenes, and i think the direction overall could've been better (comparing most shows to BTR isn't fair i know because BTR is directed & adapted so well it's hydrogen bomb vs. coughing baby territory)
i've mostly said negative stuff, but i don't want it to sound like i hate or even really dislike the adaptation. i think when it comes to a series you really love, you want to see the best adaptation possible within reason, and the disappointment of stuff not being quite what you were hoping for is amplified by so many other recent adaptations being so good.
dunmeshi does not have a bad anime by any means, but a lot of that is thanks to the source material's quality. if they do another season, i hope they have more time/budget/whatever because i think a lot of the parts it does have are good parts! but in this case, i wasn't hoping for good; i was hoping for great.
trigger makes great shows with wacky storylines (in some ways, the same one wacky storyline, but that's a different discussion) and dunmeshi, being directed by someone who's worked on a bunch of trigger stuff (largely sci-fi leaning), maybe needed some more direction from people who've worked on fantasy stuff? i can't say for sure what would've been enough to take the show over the top, but though i generally don't hope for much from adaptations, i really did have higher hopes for this one than it ended up achieving.
overall it seems i'll end up scoring the show a 7 or 7.5 when i finish the season, though there's certainly still room to wow us all. whatever you feel about the adaptation, whether you liked it or not, whether or not you've read the manga, feel free to comment your thoughts below or in my inbox. let's keep it free of manga spoils for anime-only watchers, though!

hello ^^ ! i really like all your posts about megatron and optimus - the introspectives are really good, and it made me appreciate their characters so much- you manage to put into words a lot lot of what i feel about idw optimus, and i actually had to walk around my entire room after reading your thoughts because there is honestly nothing i love more than the recognition of how gritty and messy -and thoroughly trying his best- optimus is !! his choices in leadership (from good to bad to worse to I-wouldnt-wish-this-decision-making-position-on-my-worst-enemy) are so incredibly just. human and natural. he’s not a paragon of leadership and thats literally awesome. his intentions are genuine and I love portrayals of him that show that good intentions alone isn’t enough. situations where optimus doesn’t know what to do and by god he shouldnt be calling the shots right now but he does anyways because its expected of him and he is acutely aware so much relies on him to make the calls -> things go from bad to worse >>>>>>>> ITS SO PEAK !!!!! dont get me started on megatron thats a giant . waffle post for another time. something something the way megatron’s beliefs and ideals deteriorate into his personal grudges against optimus until he loses sight of what hes fighting for + the way optimus starts off very emotionally oriented until 4 million years of war sort of hard-codes ‘what will benefit the greater good’ into his thinking patterns (unfortunately Not A Great Mindset To Constantly Be Haunted By) (WITH a mash of personally-driven issues he tries quashing away) . really awsome. thank you for sharing your posts ^_^ !! theyre very very cool and inspired me to draw them more!!!!
YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH ANOTHER IDW OP/IDW MEGOP ENJOYER and this ask is so cool too!
In addition to that upcoming post (not today perhaps but soon) I'm planning on rewriting all of my meta and posting them on AO3 with more citations via screenshots of the comics, as well as possibly bringing in quotes from actual literary essays and books and history and shit to contextualize the way that my reading of IDW OP is informed by the other literature I've read in the past. Glad someone really really enjoys my thoughts!

What do the characters themselves think is their most positive and negative attribute and what do you think as the author (not all characters are gonna be aware or even open about themselves fully) of Antares? I’m interested in knowing about RWBY and JNPR obviously. But also STRQ, the Ace Ops and Sun and Mercury. You can add more if you like but that’s a lot already.
This got so long, here's a readmore
Ruby
Ruby thinks her best trait is her good heart, she’s definitely convinced she’s heroic and kind and loving. Pure of heart, idealistic, she thinks those define a hero. She also thinks her most negative attribute is her scorpion bloodline, because it’s a direct link to the fact that she’s the daughter of a serial killer and living proof that Summer Rose wasn’t as good as everyone says. She’s ashamed of the fact, and hates that she wants to know more.
As the author, her best trait and worst trait are one in the same. Ruby is not pure of heart, she’s not tainted by who her progenitor is, and she’s not self-aware. Ruby is determined. It means she’s incredibly hard to knock down, she’ll always get back up, she doesn’t give up, and it also means she doesn’t listen when she thinks she’s making the right call.
Weiss
So uh, it’s hard to narrow down because Weiss thinks lots of her attributes are positive. She’d probably want to pick her determination, her looks, her fighting spirit, her combat skills. But at her heart she thinks her best attributes, listed prior, are all the ways she’s similar to Winter. There’s an idolisation there. Her worst trait she thinks is her coldness, her isolated nature. That it keeps her from connecting to the world. Very sad and all that.
Weiss’s worst trait is, in actuality, the fact that she tends to accept what people tell her without interrogating that information, and will dismiss things that don’t fit that worldview out of hand unless she really can’t ignore it. She believes ‘dad is bad but Grandfather was good’ without actually thinking about how the SDC was made, she thinks ‘Winter is the best’ and refuses to see Winter’s flaws, she thinks ‘faunus are bad aside from the Good Ones’ and then needs to do a lot of unpacking and course correcting. It’s a flaw she’s working on without realising she needs to, but she just tends to take things at first impression and needs to move beyond that. Her good trait is that she is, at her core, a compassionate person who is willing to care and put her whole heart into something she believes in. She just needs to learn to be careful with where it goes.
Blake
Blake doesn’t really think about her positive attributes all that much, but if she had to pick she likes her drawing ability. She’s quite proud of how good she’s gotten at it. She hates that she’s cowardly, in her own head. Its what she thinks is everything wrong with her, that she cuts and runs when things get hard to the point she disavows her semblance.
Her best trait is that she doesn’t see the world in a black-and-white binary. She’s willing to see the good in someone but doesn’t ignore the bad. She’s willing to offer a hand to those in need, but she knows that she can’t make them take it. And she knows that some people don’t want to do good. When she’s not spun up in her own head, she’s able to understand the complexities and contradictions of people in a way that Ruby, who very much has that strict binary, cannot. Her worst trait is that she gets very caught up in her own head and that can make her self-focused to the point she forgets other people have lives going on.
Yang
She was convinced her best trait was her strength, physically, and that her worst flaw was her temper. She’s half-right.
Her best trait is similar to Ruby, she’s determined and won’t give up if she can say a way through. She’s slightly more aware of her limits then Ruby, so has a better handle on when not to let determination become her downfall, but overall she’s driven and that’s what keeps her going. Her worst flaw is her temper, but that even though she’s learning to control her rage, she’s not controlling her fuse. It’s still short, things still get to her easily, and she’s switched from ‘angry outburst’ to ‘stewing sullenly’ which is not better.
Summer
Oh man I need to be careful about spoilers with this one! Summer, eventually, by the end of her story, thinks her best trait is her silver eyes, and she buys wholly into her own legend of ‘the monster slayer, the greatest of warriors, the best of the best’ (against Grimm). She thinks her worst trait is her secrecy, but she feels like she needs it too much to let go, so she just tends to always have a slow boil of guilt going on.
Her best trait, for real, is her devotion and love for her friends and family. It’s what gives her the strength to get through a staggering amount of bad, it brings out the best in her, and it also makes her happy, which is a good thing. Her bad trait is, well- similar to Ruby, her best trait turned flaw. Her devotion to her family can manifest as ‘protecting them’ in a way that means lying, keeping secrets, and eventually running off alone because she thinks she can handle it herself and doesn’t need to drag down anyone with her. It gets her killed, in the end.
Taiyang
He knows damn well what his best trait is, it’s his kind nature, warm heart, and positive spirit, and he’s correct. That heart of his kept STRQ from falling apart emotionally at the seams when things got bad, raised two daughters in a loving household, and mostly kept Qrow from self-destructing. As a teenager, he thought his worst flaw was his temper, to the point he was afraid of it. He’s grown beyond that, and now he thinks his worst flaw is his depression, though he does try to manage it, he hates how badly it can affect him and what effect it has on his family. That’s what scares him now.
And while he is correct about his positive traits and has full rights to be confident about it, his most negative quality is in fact his own fear, both of his own negative emotions, and of dying on his family, or something. Both can cause him to be more passive than he potentially should be, as he’s quite adverse to taking risks at this point in his life where he can avoid it.
Raven
Oh man Raven thinks she’s the tits, convinced she’s strong, brave, powerful, knowledgeable. And she hates that deep down she’s the type who cuts and runs when things get hard. Despises it. So she covers it up with bravado and danger.
As the author, I can safely say that all that is bull. Raven’s most positive quality is that despite herself, she does actually care. Somewhere deep down. She buries it behind all her rules, but she does care. This does not absolve her of being terrible, and may in fact make it worse because she has the capacity to do better but chooses not to. Her worst flaw is that she’s very stuck in the past, but it’s specifically a self-martyring version of the past where she’s never wrong, and she refuses to actually think about herself and her actions.
Qrow
Qrow thinks his looks and charm are his best quality. His worst flaw is his semblance. He’s really not that introspective.
His best quality as an author is that his clever. He’s thoughtful and quick and full of schemes, and that makes him very effective as a Huntsman and a spy. It also means that with someone he really knows he can be quite a good soundboard. His worst flaw is that he doesn’t take responsibility for himself. He blames everything on Raven, on his semblance, on his tragic backstory, on his job, on the alcohol, later on Ozpin, and at some point he’s going to have to come to terms with that even with all of that, he’s still him. And he’s still flawed.
Jaune
Jaune totally thinks his worst flaw is his uselessness, and he’s still working on finding a best trait. If pushed under pain of death he’d probably like being tall.
In actuality, as an author, Jaune’s best trait is that he’s learnt how to step back. He’s at the point in Antares where he’s less egotistical about being The Hero and is more focused on ‘how do I keep everyone alive’ which is much more important and is good for him. His worst trait is that he’s really, really obtuse. The subtler nuances of things tend to just go whoosh over his head, he takes Ren going ‘all good’ at mostly face value, he doesn’t see the problem with Pyrrha’s aggression unless it specifically hurts someone else. He’s trying to keep the peace and missing a lot of the underlying tensions.
Nora
Nora thought her big personality was her best trait and deep down, though she’d never admit it, didn’t like how utterly dependent she was on Ren emotionally. She knew that their codependency was gonna bite ‘em in the arse eventually, she just didn’t think she’d be the one to go down first.
And actually? Yeah, she’s pretty much correct, except it wasn’t her big personality that made her great, it was the fact it was driven by her good nature. The codependency def was a timebomb though.
Pyrrha
Pyrrha is an interesting case because if you asked her this before the Fall of Beacon and afterwards you’d get two wildly different answers. The first answer you’d get, while she’s still at Beacon is that she thinks her best trait is that she can be great, she’s working towards a destiny of being great, of helping people. Of being a Huntress. Her worst trait, in her own words, is that she’s so ‘great’ that she’s all alone. Not much changes from the show here.
After Beacon, she’s changed her mind. Suddenly, her worst trait is now that she failed to live up to the titles and pedestals she was placed on, that she let down her own legend. She’s no longer invincible, and it gnaws at her. So, she’s decided, now that she’s discovered anger, discovered what anger can do to make her stronger, she’s going to embrace it. She has learnt rage and she’s going to keep it.
And I can categorically state she’s mixed herself up in quite the knot. Her worst trait is not that she’s now angry, I mean- she has every right to be upset, her worst trait is that she has no regulation on it. Very classical hero of her. Her best trait hasn’t changed throughout all of this, and it is that Pyrrha Nikos, at her core, is unfailingly kind. Angry moods not included.
Ren
Ren is a perfectionist and finds a new flaw every time someone asks. But the big one that grates on him is that everyone else around him seems so naturally talented and driven and he’s worked so hard, trained so harshly, and he can barely keep up. He likes that people think he gives good advice though, it feels nice to be helpful.
As the author, Ren’s best trait is that he both gives himself space to figure out what he wants to say, and gives other people that room to sort their emotions too. A lot of the characters are very impulsive and quick to make decisions, which is good for fighting, not so much for character interactions when everyone’s traumatised to the nines. Ren may not always get people, but he gives them the space to chat, and tends not to judge because he’s also busy figuring out his own words. It’s an overlooked skill. He’s also wrong about his flaw. Again, same as Nora, his utter dependency on her was good for him but now she’s not around he’s completely unmoored. The fact that he’s constantly using his semblance to dull down pretty much everything is a very bad thing and the fact that when he has his aura off so far in the story he’s been distracted by pure survival or blinding vengeful rage means he has processed exactly nothing.
Sun
Sun if asked would say his best trait is his optimistic personality and oh man he is clinging to that by the skin of his teeth. He thinks he doesn’t do enough to help the people he cares about, his conflicting loyalties stall him and though he knows damn well he’s on the wrong side, he’s not really tried to change it beyond token efforts.
I, on the other hand, think that his worst trait is that if he decides he doesn’t like someone he’ll literally just be like ‘didn’t ask don’t care, we all got trauma, it came free with your fucking lifespan’. He’s correct on the optimism tho, it’s important to stay positive when you’re living in an evil lair filled with evil-eating monsters.
Mercury
Mercury knows damn well how good he is in a fight and how hard he is to put down because he just keeps getting back up, pain is all in the mind. His worst flaw, for him, is his backstory. He tries not to sleep when he can because he doesn’t want to deal with the nightmares. This man runs on coffee and spite only.
It’s very mean but I actually love that Mercury is incredibly amoral and self-interested (though perhaps not as much as he thinks he is). Atlas arrested his dad? Cool, he’ll work on their side. Schnee promised him money to keep an eye on some chick? Yeah, no worries. Pay me when I get back. It’s a very fun contrast to the rest of Team Good Guy who are all, like, heroic, and I love interesting character dynamics. Worst trait is basically the same thing, his incredibly apathetic which can make him hard to balance in a scene because he doesn’t care about the story he’s in unless I dangle a short-term motivation in front of him.
Clover
One might think Clover would call his best trait his semblance, after all, being lucky is incredibly useful. He’s got self-confidence beyond that though, and is quite convinced his best trait is his ability to keep a cool head even in dicey situations. It’s a very good trait for a leader, and it allows him a level of maturity which means his pride doesn’t tend to get in the way. He would think his worst trait is that he has a bit of an addictive personality, which he mostly tries to be constructive about and channel into, ironically for the cool head remark, being a complete thrill seeker and adrenaline junkie. It’s better than gambling, after all.
He is correct on the positive trait, but I would say his negative trait is a bit more insidious, and its that he takes way too much responsibility even for things out of his control. Though, when your power verges on the edge of mild reality warping, is it any wonder that it has a sprawling guilt complex to go with it when the odds don’t turn out in your favour?
Elm
Elm prides herself on being indomitable. She does not bow, she does not break. Whether it be her gentle heart, her cheerful brashness, her sheer indestructibility in a fight, or what have you, Elm knows that she does not give in. Ever. Unfortunately, this has a downside, as Elm has a history of being the Last Man Standing, and that… she does not like that.
Anyway, she’s correct on both things, someone has to be, you go Elm.
Vine
Vine is the Ace Op who is most willing to ‘do what needs to be done’, even if the option is not one the others find agreeable. He thinks that is his best quality, as every group needs a devil’s advocate to keep them from going too far in one direction. He thinks his worst trait is that though he’ll do it, he still feels regret, and he fears that one day his regrets will keep him from efficiency.
I can safely say that Vine’s best trait is not, in fact, being able to do the dirty work, even if it very rarely comes up as an option. It’s the fact that despite all of the stuff he’s done, because he had a checkered past he is still able to believe in the future. He has hope, very important. His worst quality is that he never says any of this, not even the top stuff, and works on a very ‘state words, assume you understand implied subtext and meaning without explanation’ way of talking that does not gel with people that don’t know him well enough to pick up on his very understated cues.
Harriet
Harriet knows she’s the best and she’ll brag about it to anyone who listens, she has the fastest speed semblance in the history of Remnant, they checked. Ego is important, who wants to go into a fight thinking they might not win? Harriet is confident and that is everyone else’s problem. Flaws? What are those? (Her darkest secret is that someone will find out she bleaches her hair, most people assume its natural because Remnant)
As the author, Harriet’s best trait is that she expects the best, of herself and of others, and pushes them towards it. She doesn’t settle, and she doesn’t let other people settle, and that can be in anything, but channelling it towards self-improvement is the main thing she does, second only to keeping herself and her semblance and her skills in tip top shape. Her worst flaw is that she’s as impulsive as she is fast, was that really a question?
Marrow
Marrow doesn’t hate himself, not really, but he definitely would rank his artistic skills as his favourite trait, he worked hard at his drawing, he’s self-taught, he’s proud of it. He designs all his own tattoos and they are awesome, thanks. He still has some hangups about being a faunus, and possibly a ‘race traitor’ for joining the military, there’s some guilt there over if he’s right for trying to work in the system to change things or not.
Marrow, unaware of this, has his best trait being his earnestness. He may worry in the small hours of the night over what’s going on, but he believes in people, in himself, in his dreams, and that’s important. His flaw is that, despite that, he’s incredibly indecisive, and finds it very hard to make snap decisions when he has to.
Secret Tortuga Option
Kelpie Tortuga was Harriet’s best friend growing up and the two of them were the cause of some of Ironwood’s grey hairs, not just the old age (Neon has inherited this label). Tortie, as Harriet called them, thought that his wicked sense of humour was his best trait, able to keep the Aces light even after a mission went south, helping keep everyone sane. He also did not like his faunus trait much at all, as his horse ears were incredibly expressive and always gave away what they were really feeling, even when they were projecting their cool guy image.
Tortie’s true best trait was, unquestionably, their loyalty, and in the case of Harriet, it was completely reciprocated. You’d never find one without the other, and she took his death hard. Their worst trait was the same as Harriet’s, impulsiveness. Tortie was the type to rush in without thinking, same as Harriet, and that’s led to the Aces being a little bit more careful in fights now.

Before I get into this I wanted to say someone said on one of my posts about Naruto and One Piece that they didn't feel their was a point in comparing them and I wanted to say my intention isn't really to compare Naruto and One Piece. My point is that Naruto is a standard shounen with some good ideas and points but is overall not very good and has lots of writing issues. One Piece is a standard shounen that is very well written with fewer issues. And because all of my problems with people on here seem to stem from people wanting to read Naruto differently than intended to make it look better I want to use One Piece as an example of what something that is just good writing on its own merits looks like.
Anyway, Iruka says chapter one that he thinks Naruto's struggles have given him empathy and I think that is funny because to me Naruto has never been a character with any emotional intelligence or kindness to be seen in him. The only time he has interest in other's emotions or feelings is when he can relate them to his own experience and this is 1. never addressed as a problem Naruto has and 2. is a consistent theme throughout the manga. Not only that but he never seems to be able to do anything helpful when he finds people like that (which could be an interesting commentary on Naruto's inability with personal interactions but once again the manga doesn't make note of it). Think how he treats Inari, think encouraging Hinata to fight Neji even though it endangered her because it personally triggered him, think how he ends up fighting Gaara and saying he will fight Sasuke after saying he relates to them (not that I think he's wrong for fighting Gaara since...he's attacking the village just, Choices Kishimoto for doing that more than once).
Now let me show an example of the main character for one understanding someone else's feelings and for two, shock and awe, helping them. Generally Luffy isn't a character anyone would describe using the word "intelligence" for on first blush, but reading the manga you will see in a lot of situations Luffy is actually incredibly emotionally intelligent. And honestly I think it's kind of funny that Kishimoto bothers making Iruka specifically says Naruto has empathy when he doesn't show it at least in a helpful way meanwhile no one says anything about Luffy being kind yet...here we are...just being shown things instead of told.
Anyway, here's the example. This one is from early in the manga and I chose one that involves a whale instead of a person just to really drive the point home.
The crew meets (and gets eaten by...look it's a whole thing okay) a whale (Laboon) and the lighthouse watcher/former doctor/whale caretaker (once again...it's a whole thing), Crocus, tells them the story of how this whale was waiting for his friends, a different pirate crew, to sail around the world and return to him, but it's been 50 years and Crocus believes the crew has abandoned the whale and Laboon, disbelieving this, rams his head against the Red Line (it's a land mass that circles the entire world...listen I can't be explaining the intricacies of OP's world building just for this post), seriously injuring himself in his attempts to break through and find his friends. Luffy, for lack of anything else to do I guess (if he could just intuit the problem and do something about it without listening to a whole ass tale he would, trust), listens though as usual the energy he's giving is "no thoughts, head empty".
Tumblr media
But the next thing you know! Luffy has broken of the ship's mast (for some reason...) and is running up the whale to stab the mast into Laboon's latest slamming-his-head-into-a-wall-of-earth wound (in case you can't tell I'm not showing all the panels thus all the explaining).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laboon is in pain and attacks, but Luffy fights back.
Tumblr media
Luffy stops the fight by declaring it a draw!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, it looks like their match isn't settled so they will have to fight some other time. Luffy declares that they are rivals and after they sail around the world (like Laboon's previous crew of pirate friends) they will come back and Luffy and Laboon can have a rematch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luffy even paints their...uh, his version of their Jolly Roger on Laboon's head where his scars are and says he can't ram his head against the Red Line because that will erase the contract. This gives something else for Laboon to look forward to rather than him needlessly waiting for his friends to return. And it works! Every time we see Laboon in little asides or cover stories after this he is happily waiting for the Straw Hats at the lighthouse with Crocus. (And in case anyone was wondering his pirate friends and the Straw Hats can't just bring him with them because he's a giant fucking whale and they are circling the entire globe through dangerous waters, also the sky, also the bottom of the ocean, also fighting the government, also getting flung across the globe, and various islands.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what really REALLY touches me about this exchange is that Luffy knows he can't replace Laboon's previous pirate crew of friends. He can't just say "I'll be your friend" to fix this. So instead he positions himself as Laboon's rival, not replacing the friends Laboon is still waiting for or belittling his bond with them (and trust me...it's a bond 😢). And in case you're wondering does this somehow connect to Luffy's sad past and that's why he's doing this??? No. His sad backstory isn't anything like this. He's just doing it because it's the kind thing to do and if you're trying to do something and Luffy likes you he will do everything he can to help you.

I wanted to rant about this to someone and I have nobody to so pardon me, you can ignore this
I have a lo to say about oda's work as someone who work in cinema, in animation cinema at that.
I hate how he's such an incredible story teller and has one of the best world building that I've ever seen but he can't desing characters.
Like Nami, I love Nami, she's so well written (too well that nobody seems to understand her at all) only to be reduce to boobs.
The same can be said about evry female character sadly.
Also evil female characters, they also follow the same patter of being more on the weird side of his designs and it saddens me a bit that he can only make variations of characters when it comes to vilians that you're not supposed to be attracted to.
This can be said for the men too but this whole post ts art style is a debate I have with "is it commercialism and the death of art under capitalism or is it that Oda genualy can't desing proper characters?"
But then again, pre ts style is also not that much better. Speaking of professionalism a studio looks how unique your style is and oda's old way of drawing his characters specially Robin or Ace were interesting and gave him something really unique and special (and that's on the socially attractive ones)
Now I'm looking at Nami copy n°10982 while all the men are getting beefier but at least they have more interesting and different designs.
It's something that makes me mad and it's not even the whole "no women in op has organs" way more of the "this same face sindrom can't go on for much longer" because at the end of the day his female characters tell us nothing about them wich tend to lead to people not caring for them or just going with "big boos=great character" because something really important in character design is that your character is clear and can be read from the siluette and acting and that is something no woman in op that's marketed as attractive has.
Sorry for the rant, character design is part of my job and if I were to present desings like oda has for his girls I would get fired and that got me thinking
Hope you have a great day :D
I agree mostly with this, but I personally think a lot of the damage was done because of Toei. Like, obviously Oda's style suffers from a lack of diversity when it comes to women and their sexualization, but Toei makes it SO much worse. Like- Right now I'm reading early OP (because I had just watched the anime and then caught up with the manga from Wano) and it was so much better back then. It got considerably worse with time but-- Yeah, I see what you mean.
