So again idk how Judge is in canon, but in my AU I imagine him as a deadbeat dad who only enters Sanji’s life to ask him for money. (If you’ve seen the episode “Mom” from Abbott Elementary, that’s the kind of dynamic I’m thinking of)
Sanji has been at a crossroads with his father for a long time, and when he comes to vist he’s always put in a bind because he wants his dad to love him, but he’s caught on to how he’s being used. Zeff always fumes when Judge is back in town but Sanji made him promise to stay out of it and to leave it between him and his dad.
None of the straw hats have met Judge. They’ve heard very little about Sanji’s family life outside of Zeff.
Judge comes through town during Zoro’s final trimester, and it becomes a whole thing. Sanji never told his father about Zoro and the baby because he doesn’t talk to him outside of the times Judge drops by unannounced. Sanji honestly didn’t want him to know or get in the middle of this because at this point it’s none of his business. So when he drops by out of the blue one day and meets a heavily pregnant Zoro at the door, it’s Sanji’s worst nightmare come to life.
Sanji is on edge at the freak out he’s gonna get from Judge, but his father takes it in stride. He’s jovial that he’s “becoming a grandfather” and grills Sanji a little bit for withholding this from him. The vibe of this visit is already totally different from how it usually goes, and judge almost seems like he cares about Sanji’s life for once.
He stays longer than he usually does (he usually only stays for a day or two, skipping town after he promised Sanji he’d hang out the whole week), actually following up on promises to Sanji.
Sanji gets the smallest bit of hope that maybe his dad has finally turned is act around, but Zeff is incredibly doubtful. Zeff warns Zoro to be weary of Judge and relays all the disappointments he’s put Sanji through. “He will try to drive a wedge between you and Sanji and you can’t let him. For the sake of your baby, you can’t let Judge stick around.”
Zoro of course, smells the rancid vibes coming off Judge from a mile away, but keeps civil for Sanji’s sake. He keeps a sharp eye for what kind of game Judge is playing, and doesn’t let his guard down.
Everyone is aware that this situation has the potential to emotionally decimate Sanji, so all of the Straw Hats are scrutinizing and keeping their eyes on Judge while he tries to worm his way back into Sanji’s life.

Sanji doesn't know how to hug. It's a weird realization for the rest of the crew because Sanji is a very affectionate person. He shows his love for his crew in the way he makes their favorite dishes. In the way, he remembers what all of them like to eat. He knows what food will give Franky heartburn and what will make Jinbe queasy. But it's not just in his food, where his affection lies.
It's in the way he places a hand on Choppers head, when he is scared, the way he wordlessly points Zoro in the right direction when he is about to walk down the wrong way, and the way he lets Usopp demonstrate his newest invention to him, even if he is busy.
It's in the way he cares for Nami's tangerine and the way he tells Brook all the different stories and songs he has heard during his time at the Baratie.
It's in the way he listens to Robin talk about her studies, even if he understands little of it and in the way he, like them all, cares about Luffys dream just as much as his own.
So yes, Sanji is a very affectionate person. And still, he doesn't know how to hug. He is awkward whenever it happens, too stiff or too forceful, never quite right.
After Whole Cake Island, the crew starts to understand why.
But it's okay. At least that's what Luffy decides. They can teach him.

In my head the Zosan babies came to be in a very quirky way, mostly because I wanted them to be biological children of Zoro and Sanji and at the same time I couldn't decide who would get the mpreg treatment.
Finally, I decided how it would go with the help of Ivankov, Law and specially Nami.
Ivankov swapped either Sanji or Zoro (that's up to you to decide) and Law came after some time and used his devil fruit to pass the baby (???) to Nami, as she volunteered to be the kinda sorta surrogate mother.
During the first months she powered through the exaggerated over-protection of Zoro and Sanji as well as their insistence to be around her all the time to check on her and "hang out with the kid".
Then OH? Surprise surprise, it wasn't just a kid. They were having triplets.
Nami was shocked, Zoro almost has a heart attack and Sanji had a nervous meltdown. As for Law and Chopper they actually expected it.
Either way, the next months Nami guilt-tripped everyone in the ship into treating her like royalty with the excuse that doing stuff with triplets was hard. When the day came Vivi, Zoro and Sanji where in the room. It went smoothly, well, at least medically.
Zoro and Sanji were very stressed from the start but when the girls came out with green hair and a curly brow Nami had to scold them, so they would stop bickering (Secretly they were smitten by this traits).
Anyways, this is why Nami and Vivi will never have kids.

luffy would be an air bender, like his father and grandfather. not the most monastic family, but luffy's joy and zeal for life make up the spiritual part of his connection to air
nami would be i think from islands right between the earth and water nations, creating a very mixed independent culture. she's a non bender, but her affinity for storms cannot be denied
zoro's incredible strength would point to earth bending, and possibly eventually to metal bending, even if he also uses weapons. plus i am enjoying the image of ryuma being a lot like kyoshi
sanji would be a fire bender but have a. complicated relationship with his heritage. it takes a lot of love for his friends to get him to finally use his flames. learned martial arts of different nations from zeff
chopper would fully be a spirit in the mortal realm. he is doing fine don't worry about it he has friends here now
jinbe is already a water bender. canonically. maybe the fishmen vs mermen divide is like the north and south poles? or maybe there is a tropical, venice like capital city they built for this world
franky learning ship building from a water nation ship wright? best ships in the world, no competition
robin i don't think would bend, but rather fight with acupressure points. as for her people, perhaps sages? who tracked the reincarnation cycles of the joy boy?

One Piece Live Action - OP Fan Review
Tumblr media
So it's finally time.
We waited on bated breath and anticipation to see if Oda's masterwork could in fact translate to live action, much less Netflix live action. Titles such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop have caused sincere fears that it would not go so well, but with Oda in the production there was hope, and now we see if it's rewarded.
Knowing that this is an adaptation and they were covering most of East Blue's saga in 8 episodes there will of course be differences. But whether or not they work remained to be seen, so let's talk about it.
Spoilers for One Piece, both Live Action and manga/anime because there will be overlap to discuss
First and foremost we will need to pour one out for those who didn't make the cut; Woop Slap, Ripper, Ritchie (referenced but not seen), Gaimon, Django (he had a poster but not a presence), the Usopp pirates, Johnny and Yosaku, Carne, that fly in Fullbody's soup, Pearl, Moocy, and most surprisingly Hachi. It's a shame to not see them (also 3 future-warlords in the audience of Roger's execution) but I can understand them...minus Hachi he's kinda an important connective piece in the long run. Also no Usopp Hammer or Usopp Rubber Band, the sacrilege!
So as far as adaptations go though this was really good. Opinions are of course subjective, so a lot of fans are welcome to say that Live Action has done arcs better than the manga/anime, but I'd say it's either as good or a little less, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of people who haven't watched or read One Piece get a nice introduction of almost the first 100 chapters/45 episodes, which contrary to the memes of 'yeah One Piece gets good at episode 629' should be enough to whet people's appetites to see if they wanna take the plunge.
Of course, change is scary and sometimes not accepted, so not all the changes made were ones I liked, at least as much as the original source. I kinda feel like we did a few characters dirty; Makino (no flirtatious chemistry with Shanks? come on), the Orange Town Mayor, Mohji, Chouchou (again, I get it, can't really get animals to act so easily), Fullbody, Gin, Krieg, Genzo, and Nojiko did have a bit more to do in the source material but often only got one scene or lacked the same spark they had. Also the amount of death was surprising, I get most of it but at the same time killing off Merry (and recontextualizing how the Going Merry was named by not having Merry be its creator even with the lore change that Syrup village makes ships) does kinda leave Kaya even more alone, in the original at least she had him and the Usopp pirates for company. While Buggy as a character is awaiting praise later down the line I will have to say that his role beyond episode 2 was a bit lackluster, he was never gonna help the crew for sure but it was weird for him to just saunter away from Arlong Park, I also feel like we could've better explained Devil Fruits and water's effect on DF users, because it is a very big misconception by those on the outside that Luffy simply loses his powers when hit by a splash of water, rather than his strength being sapped when more than half-submerged; rain, splashing waves, that doesn't effect DF users that way, and it's not like it's an off switch Luffy could still stretch while in water it's just harder to do so. It was also a shame not to have Shanks and Buggy's backstory shown. The CGI did have some rough moments too, I was not too much of a fan of how they did Kuro's pussyfooting (no you don't understand it's literally called the pussy foot technique) in episode 3, episode 4 was better, I felt that Luffy vs Arlong relied a bit too much on it too. Zoro's flashback was oddly placed in episode 4, given how it's more fitting as a build up to Zoro vs Mihawk, also felt like the context of Zoro losing to Kuina 2001 times in a row was sorely missed in that flashback. I will also have to admit that while the costuming is great, there is a very glaring case of it being very easy to spot the important characters from the crowd.
Some changes I was more than fine with, Alvida changing her call to most powerful makes sense since insulting her appearance wouldn't really go down too well, Zoro could've been a bit more mellow but he still played the edgy deadpan guy well...at least until Luffy eventually wears down his brain cells, and as cool as the Mr. 7 fight was it does not help debunk those 'minority hunter' memes. Changing Sham's gender worked pretty well too, the actress wore the look very well, and though people were a little let down that Benn Beckman is not super handsome I didn't have a problem with his look.
Of the changes I liked more it's probably that we saw more of Nami growing vulnerable to the crew, sure in turn we lost her fake-stabbing Usopp and grabbing a lit fuse but we got her bonding with Kaya and staunchly try to convince Zoro not to fight Mihawk - whereas in the anime/manga she had already ran off with the Merry - plus I feel like we got more friendship between her and Zoro at this stage, it's not that they didn't get along but I do feel like Zoro's dismissal in the live action is almost tied to feeling a little hurt by her betrayal. I enjoyed and was surprised with how much Garp we got, and how much he and Koby interacted with Luffy this early, since while we get the cover story of Koby-Meppo it's more it's own thing and we don't even learn of Garp's relation to Luffy until about 3 more sagas (sagas, not arcs, sagas), but it did help flesh out Koby's character more and his own character growth in parallel to Luffy. Think the change I was most approving of was confirming Kaya x Usopp, like she loves that liar so much so it was sweet to see a kiss in there, no romance my ass Oda, I also liked that they made it that Kuro was poisoning Kaya, since her original illness suddenly going away was a bit strange.
Every major character in this show translated very well to their characters in the source, even if they are a little different in some traits. Inaki as Luffy is a perfect fit, being equal parts charismatic, serious when necessary and aloof, he handled the big pressure that would've come with a character of Luffy's character in fantastic stride. The other crewmates were of course very well casted too, having wonderful chemistry with each other, as were their child counterparts, but I found myself most impressed by the villains; Morgan, Helmeppo and Kuro especially surprised me by how well they came across, Jeff Ward as Buggy was always gonna be a perfect fit in my mind too, given how much I saw of him in Agents of SHIELD. Arlong did take a bit of time to grow, but I can't deny he does the laugh perfectly. Side characters such as Kaya and Zeff also impressed me, having been given a bit more content to chew on in their stories, and Shanks did soothe my worries I had from the trailer by being jovial and true to character.
The biggest positive impression I got from One Piece was the sense of wonder and vibrancy, the settings were all wonderfully crafted with care and style fitting to Oda's vision, I particularly liked the added carnival entertainment stands in Arlong Park to better reflect its homage to Sabaody Park, the same can be said with costuming - referencing previous colour spreads - and motifs like the bounty poster introductions and the leitmotifs of characters like Buggy, Arlong and the Straw Hats, plus the instrumental of 'We Are' is wonderful. Most important is that the moments landed, especially Shanks giving the Straw Hat, the barrel scene, and Nami asking for help, but we also crafted some newer subtle moments, such as Luffy being drawn to the Merry and pitching to Kaya regarding it, and Zeff and Garp's conversation. Easter eggs were also hidden well enough to not be blatant to non-fans but rewarding to those who know.
So yeah, it was very much a huge success, one I hope will be translated in its positive reviews and viewership. If there's a second season I'd anticipate that we'd cover Loguetown and the Alabasta saga, but with that comes more castings I do not envy the team to find, because outside of campaigns for Jamie Lee-Curtis to play Kureha there are a ton of big and iconic players in those arcs that'll need perfect casting to pull off; Ace, Crocodile, Vivi, Bon Clay, and Tashigi (since you'll have to have a comparison with Kuina's actress) is tough enough but we're also gonna have to make the 'puppet or CGI' decision with Chopper and somehow cast the most beautiful woman on the planet to play Nico Robin. Then perhaps Season 4 (providing they do the Skypeia saga all in Season 3, only needing to cast one to three properly big players depending on whether they have Shanks meet a certain someone) they'll have to struggle with even more casting difficulties.
Still, if they're up for the challenge go ahead and do it, I'll be there for Season 2 if they're willing to make it.

I’ve always been curious what prompted Zeff to try to kick Sanji out NOW. It’s clear he’s never brought it up before, and this is before he notices how well Sanji and Luffy get along.

Zoro going against Mihawk out of nowhere and Luffy going against Zeff out of nowhere— I just know the old generation was doomed right then because Luffy and Zoro can have all the respect in the world or none of it and it wouldn't matter, they would tear through anything in their way even if they only had pirate baby teeth.

Some random ideas I'm having about my One Piece Sound AU, that I wanna put on paper
While the main ship is ZoSan, I do want to make some side comics about the other straw hats and what they're getting up to while Sanji and Zoro have their soap opera slow burn. I don't know what they'll be yet but I'm thinking about them. I want them to be just as involved in the plot as Zoro and Sanji are, cus the straw hats never do anything solo.
I'm also thinking about the world-building of this town that my AU takes place in, and how I can fit other one piece characters into other residents in town. I've also been thinking about what the vibe would be around town during the on and off seasons tourism-wise. and what the town's geography would look like. The town is built around a sound that leads out into the greater ocean, so that would affect things like layout and coastline.
Baratie is deff on the water still and probably at the heart of the more expensive tourist eateries.
More character-focused stuff, I keep thinking about how Sanji is a workaholic, as well as a self-proclaimed gentleman, so I think he would slowly start to increase his work hours as Zoro's pregnancy gets farther along. He really gets it in his head that he needs to be able to take care of Zoro and the baby, so he throws more of himself into work. It starts reasonably, and Zoro figures if Sanji wants to do shit for him for free (like make extra lunches and work extra hours) he can knock himself out cus Zoro doesn't care either way (and sorta gets that Sanji has a complex about this stuff and does not want to get in the middle of that.) However, once Zoro loses his job, Sanji goes a little overboard with the whole situation. He doubles his hours at Baratie, and Zoro rarely sees him anymore. And as he and Sanji are growing closer (cus they're now living together and being low key domestic) Zoro is actually really miffed that Sanji is grinding himself into dust on his behalf.
Then one day Zoro says enough is enough and goes to Zeff behind Sanji's back to plead his case. He's like "look man, we both know Sanji. We both know he's going to work himself into an early grave unless someone screws his head back on right. You have to stop Sanji from working all these insane hours."
And for Zeff, he's been seeing all the scrambling that Sanji has been doing and seen how tired Sanji is, and is really touched by Zoro coming to him to lend his concern. He's met Zoro ofc, but he's seeing the guy that Sanji is doing all this extra work for, the guy he's trying to do right by, and instantly sees him as family. He says he'll crack some sense into Sanji's head, and that if Zoro ever needs anything, come to Zeff.
I really like the idea of Zeff and Zoro bonding over their relationship with Sanji, and Zoro growing close to Zeff cus that's who is baby's grander father is going to be.
Also it was apparently Zeff who raised Sanji to respect women, so after this Zoro and the strawhats quickly learned that Zeff would do just about anything Zoro asks cus he's carrying Sanji's child. Like Sanji asks for something he'll be like "never in a million years, little eggplant." but if Zoro asks he's like "ofc anything for my son-in-law and grandbaby eggplant." This drives Sanji insane. The straw hats abuse this for any time they want to hang out with Sanji when he's at work or want to borrow the Baratie truck.

Imagine sanji playing overcooked. He's great at it, but with the straw hats it's the most stressful experience.
Zoro is as hopelessly lost in video games as he is in real life and keeps throwing the orders in the bin instead of serving them. Luffy keeps trying to make his character eat the food. He also somehow burns all the dishes he touches.
Bonus: he plays it with zeff and the guys at the baratie every now and then, it's rowdy and chaotic and they're yelling at each other but they wouldn't have it any other way.

More zs au
- Sanji still acts the same with women and it’s because they were the only people who have ever cared about him in a kind way. Zeff was still harsh on Sanji knowing that he’s to scare to go into the kitchen thinking that his brothers will know and come around the corner.
- The wedding was going to happen because Mihawk had adopted Zoro when he was young. Zoro wants to be the world’s greatest swordsman in a long bit of teenaged anger that Mihawk encourage wanting to see his son do something great and in someway it’s Zoro trying to be like his dad.
- Because Zoro is Mihawk’s son the Vinsmoke’s want him in the family(to kill him and Mihawk). They tell Mihawk and Perona that Zoro was getting married not telling them that it was against his will
- The Straw hat’s where there to fight Big Mom falling into the Vinsmoke’s plan. Zoro only does it because he can’t leave and has to wait for the others to get him
- At first Zoro hated Sanji thinking he was in on it. But Sanji tells Zoro that he’s also being made to do this so Zoro decides to help him. In the end Zoro starts to care about Sanji and catch feelings for him. After Judge and Big mom are down Zoro says that if he had met Sanji on his own he would had liked to marry him
- At the end of WCI Luffy decides to have Sanji join seeing as he has no where to go and seeing him cook they take Sanji on not knowing that he was the one Zoro was going to marry. But there was no awkwardness as they had already said they have feelings for each other
