Now I’m over halfway through Perez’s Wonder Woman run, a bunch of thoughts:
His art indeed is very good in how well it fits the mythology.
Perez put some solid work into Themyscira and the Greek pantheon as a whole. Some of his best stories are Themyscira-based.
Going in I didn’t expect Diana to be so young. I’m used to her in her fully-fledged ‘major part of the Justice League, can shame people into better behaviour with a look, highly respected’ form, not the young woman leaving home for the first time.
Related to this, Julia Kapatelis is a very helpful viewpoint character to get Diana adjusted to her new life and mission. Who is better at helping a 20 something get on their feet away from home for the first time than a uni professor?
Nessie Kapatelis is equally interesting, as she gives Diana a younger sibling to bounce off before Donna was able to be worked in (The inherent tragedy of knowing her future means things always hurt)
Perez is steadily working through the classics of Diana’s rogues gallery and giving space for each to be properly established. It doesn’t feel crowded or rushed as I meet each.
I really like the commentary being developed about Diana’s mission and the interplay of communicating that message (which does take media work and public appearances) and the conflict with crass commercialism (oh Myndi Mayer).
I can see why it’s a touchstone. There’s a lot here to admire and reference if you were also trying to reinvent/reboot a character.
That all said, Hermes can get in a bin any time he wants to. Please. I’m so bored with him.
There is also obviously a whole bunch of things that have NOT aged gracefully and the inherent struggle in writing Wonder Woman where there is the legacy of William Moulton Marston’s kinks still echoing through the narrative.
The Greek pantheon always has the situation that given all its gods ARE capricious, it can be interesting to see which ones the narrative is favouring at any point. This is never so obvious as checking in to see how Hera’s being characterised and whether she’s supportive or an enemy in this text.
A collection of my favourite covers so far:
Tumblr media
I just really love the way Perez draws Themyscira. He makes it feel like a full, vibrant city.
Tumblr media
This Silver Swan intro just does so much with so few colours and with negative space. How much of the design is white here? Really well thought out and eye catching.
Tumblr media
I love the lines here but even more than that this is a cover where the colourist really makes things, with that beautiful paint job. I’m sure they’ve sold thousands of posters of this.
Tumblr media
Simple. Far less busy than your average cover in this run (yes there is still a full island behind). Joyous.

hello merryana! I'm really liking Matt Smith in HOTD, but I've never watched Doctor Who, and I want to watch some of his episodes. What episodes would you recommend for someone who doesn't want to get into the show but wants to appreciate his performance?
hiiiiiiiii ❤️ oh my GOOOOOOOOD this is such a fun question for me holy shit!!! Matt Smith eleventh doctor my most beloved manic pixie mass murderer!!! okay so you're after stand alone Eleventh Doctor eps that you don't have to do homework to appreciate? I gotchu!! Okay -
The Eleventh Hour/The Beast Below - his first 2 eps! They're so nice and were intended as a soft reboot of the show. So you can watch these essentially as an intro to the show and an intro to him. No other viewing required. He's very baby and fun and so is Karen Gillan as Amy. Watching these will also set you up to watch other eps if you want to as well!
Vincent and the Doctor - arguably one of the best stand alone episodes in the show's history - it's about Vincent VanGogh. I know ppl who love this episode that have never seen another episode of DW. It's honestly just a great ep for its story, as well as Matt's role in it.
The Doctor's Wife - Also a very iconic standalone written by Neil Gaiman of Sandman and Good Omens fame, if that helps. I honestly think it's the best ep that shows Matt Smith's range as the Doctor because it's an emotional roller-coaster that pulls off one of the most ballsy ideas ever. The less you know going in the better honestly. Neil Gaiman went on record actually and said Matt was the only Doctor he trusted with this story.
A Christmas Carol - best part about Christmas specials is that they're made for anyone to watch, fan or not. This was a DW twist on the Charles Dickens story and its my favourite of the Christmas specials ever. No prior viewing of anything is necessary and Matt is so cute in this it's almost unbearable. There's also a shark, which I love, because sharks are my favourite. I'd also reccomend 'The Snowmen' for similar easy viewing christmas shenanigans.
Hide - to this day, I don't think there's been a sweeter episode. It's kinda like Doctor Who meets Haunting of Bly Manor. I've shown this to ppl who don't watch DW in the past and they have a lovely time.
If you're feeling particularly confident in your ability to just roll with the punches, I'd also reccomend the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor because it was also made to be watchable by anyone, and it's got David Tennant, and him and Matt are really fun together. It is a little Who Lore™ heavy though so I don't reccomend it as much as the others, especially if you really know nothing about the show.
As I'm writing this I'm realising how insular Matt's 3 and a bit seasons are and honestly if you have the time you could just watch his seasons without needing to watch anything before if you were feeling dedicated! But if not, the above eps are very solid stand alones that show you what he was like in the show (see: a delight!).
Last thing I'll say is if you do watch these.......cw for it being a show written and led by white British men in the early 2010s. There's nothing Very Bad it's just sorta cringe in places cos sometimes you just forget what TV was like back then.
Hope you enjoy! Blow a kiss at the screen when you watch from moi 🥰

A drama rec list (with some special mentions for beginner learners*):
Guardian (my favorite, if you like Torchwood or Xmen this will be your kinda thing, search for it as it's on bilibili right now instead of youtube, language is case fic/supernatural geared, which I found useful later, also i just love this show to pieces)
Detective L (good for learners, a very Sherlock style setup and cases are relatively simple, fairly straightforward language for case shows)
My Roommate is a Detective/Checkmate (if you liked Detective L, this is another sherlock like case setup, with somewhat more complex plot but fairly genre specific words so if you tend to watch/read this stuff you'll adjust well)
History 3 Trapped (gay, cop/mafia, also technically about solving a murder case so the combo of case genre words and slice of life romance make this approachable and fun if you like action in your romance)
Bromance (Baron Chen stars, gender fun, also slice of life romance meets mafia boss with kickass civilian getting involved with mafia boss trying to turn his company legit Baron Chen, mostly slice of life language which makes it an easier watch but also some fun action fights for people like me who like that)
Love is More Than A Word/Till Death Tear Us Apart (two connected dramas, find them on dramacool or elsewhere uncensored. Good for learners who like explicit queer marriage in their period dramas, republican era spy/business boss enemies to lovers With Happy ending in their dramas, and these shows are hard dual subtitled which is nice for learners I think, a fairly basic short plot in both shows which makes the period historical of limtaw and republican era tdtua genre words easier to figure out)
Granting You A Dreamlike Life (a hot mess of a show, GREAT for learners I learned to watch Chinese shows just steamrolling through 15 episodes of this with only chinese subs. Features zhu yilong, a lot of romance cute and angst galore, some gangster action to appease people like me ToT, and a just ridiculous soap opera style plot to keep you going. Also it's particular story style makes it easy enough to follow even if you're mainly relying on actions and visuals. It's not 'good' let's say, but if you do happen to like it, it's a great easier drama to learn from)
The Lost Tomb (the yang yang one. Very short, great intro cdrama. It's got the cheapest cgi/visuals of all daomubiji dramas so if you can handle this then quality only goes up by gratuitous proportions until you get to Tomb of The Sea, Reboot, and Ultimate Note which look movie level budget. It's fairly straightforward Indiana jones/the mummy/typical Tomb raider story plot, some easy genre related words could get picked up here, also often available with dual subtitles)
Love and Redemption (I know, you're wondering why I put this beautiful 59 episode show I adore on the learner recommendations. A big reason, is that LaR decides to often just call characters by given name. So Chu Xuanji is often just "Xuanji" when being talked to or talked about, often a character only has one name. For a xianxia, this very simple naming scheme means it's easier to learn all the character names and clans asap. It also reminded me a bit of English when I watched, just compared to shows like The Untamed which tend to use family and given name usually "Wei Wuxian" along with alternate names "Wei Ying" and nicknames "Yiling Laozi/A Xian" for many characters. So I feel if you're a learner going into xianxia, Love and Redemption is going to stick pretty straightforward in at least learning names and clans. Then also it's one of my favorite xianxia ever so the story is satisfying. Alternative "easier" starter xianxia: Eternal Love Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms - it's not my favorite but it uses straightforward tropes that are staples in this genre and it is quite solid to follow the plot, Ice Fantasy - not particularly typical, I enjoy the plot on this one, naming conventions are also fairly straightforward).
Hikaru No Go/Qi Hun (a phenomenal adaptation of the Japanese manga/anime of the same name, on iqiyi and currently free on youtube, just absolutely lovely. Slice of life/coming of age/competition story. Lots of everyday kinds of words, competition and school story type words, fast paced which I liked, ghost in the story to add a supernatural flair to the realism of the rest, very heartwarming)
Go Ahead (a serious drama about a family, very good story. Honorable mention to The Bond which I did not finish but is another serious drama about a family, starring Bai Yu).
ANY modern romance drama you can think of (seriously, modern fluffy romance is the EASIEST genre of show to watch in chinese first, language is very simple and that's why Granting You a Dreamlike Life was the first show I watched in chinese - even in republican era, its a romance so the words were easier. I personally liked My Mowgli Boy cause I love Ma Tianyu and it's both dramatic and very silly at times, Advance Bravely - has gong Jun but it's a hot mess so definitely try it and take or leave it lol, Bromance as mentioned is good with Baron Chen, Romance of Hua Rong is a good simple costume drama romance, there's also usually one or two starring your favorite actors if you just look these kinds of dramas up by actor, Plus + Minus bl looks potentially this genre as well)
We Are Not Human (webseries with 5 minute eps, on youtube and some other places. It's supernatural vampire with his zombie boyfriend and other associates, it's a comedy, and it's short comedy skit nature means all situations tend to be slice of life with some easy visual cues making it quite approachable for learners who like wwdits type stories)
Some dramas I love but think are not going to suit all beginners:
Goodbye My Princess (amazing fantasy romantic tragedy)
Rattan (amazing actors, my favorite premise of "alien/mutant" living among humans handled in a heavy way with a very old powerful mutant woman and very mortal human man both played by phenomenal actors)
Bureau of Transformer (on iqiyi, Olivia Wang stars, absolutely best written sci fi I've seen in ages world wide, please give it a shot if you like sci fi case of the week social issue allegory stories a la Star Trek, Black Mirror, Torchwood, etc. One of my top favorite shows ever).
Humans (cdrama adaptation of a show that's had 2 other versions before. It's a sci fi story about androids, stars Ma Tianyu. Incredibly well done, great acting, best sci fi looks/budget I've seen for a cdrama. I've only found it in chinese with chinese subs but it was enjoyable enough and straightforward enough I watched. Absolutely worth it if you enjoy sci fi and liked the other Humans adaptations).
The Secret of The Three Kingdoms (its like an au fanfiction take on The Three Kingdoms full of beautiful people like the best empress performance I've ever seen, Elvis Han, Ma Tianyu, Tan Jianci. One of the period dramas I've most enjoyed).
Love Between Fairy and Devil/cang lan jue (best xianxia I've seen this year, definitely worth watching)
Once Upon a Time In Lingjian Mountain (a very fun time, silly, still pulls heart strings)
Killer and Healer (I watched this with chinese subs so it's doable, but it's an involved republican era crime drama so the plots a fair bit more involved than Detective L)
Word of Honor (watched this in chinese subs then English later so its doable for a learner, but some chinese in this is very poetic or very wuxia genre specific so there's some challenging parts to this, very followable plot if you're familiar with the novel. GREAT wuxia and drama in general so it's worth the watch).
Ultimate Note (dmbj show, I loved it, effects almost as nice as Reboot but shorter and snappier pace which I enjoyed. Reboot and all other dmbj dramas recommended for dmbj fans or perusers.)
LORD Critical World (I know the cgi is bad but its a fun time, Zhang Mingen fans get constant eyecandy, this show is Xena meets Drakengard 3 with a very gay feeling main duo that to me screams Moshang from svsss vibes, fucked up at times and comedic as much as it is dark and just ridiculously bizarre, certainly A Time which I appreciate in shows)
Couple of Mirrors (republican era gl, well acted, you could try watching this as a learner like Killer and Healer, the drama is short so like The Lost Tomb it's not a big commitment, also there's a manhua!)

Random Hanadan/BoF Shitpost
After hearing that Love in Flames of War, a republican era cdrama had Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers/ Meteor Garden/ F4 vibes... but eventually failed to deliver on that front I rambled at @dangermousie that, actually, we SHOULD have a Hanadan version of every genre of cdrama.
Tumblr media
No...wait...I’m joking...but also not. My reasoning for this is solid:
 1) No matter what you thing of Hanadan and all it’s objectively toxic and dated glory, you can’t deny it is a hallmark in the history of shoujo manga/anime/asian drama/ live action adaptation/remake pumping machine. It paved the way for all the ItaKiss, Fated to Love You, etc...and it is still to this day a nostalgia magnet for an easy cash grab with each remake (also the latest one might be the best lol).
 2) *Surrender by Cheaptricks plays in the background, talks in “there is no war in ba sing se” mode* There are no new ideas in media. Everything is a sequel, prequel, remake, reboot, retelling, soft reboot, parody, homage, the same thing over and over again but call it by another name (it’s still a rose, yeah Shakespeare, you’re a genius, congrats!).
 3) Let’s face it. Dramaland is going through the lowest of lows. Cdramas are bad and boring, Kdramas are scarce and boring and Jdramas are 10 ep cute little intros to the story you really wanna see that’s about to begin...at the end of ep10, last episode, no 2nd season. So, they might as well try Every Hanadan Set Everywhere all at Once.
So, without further ado, introducing...every genre of Cdrama Hanadan (with crazy plot eggs for some and none for others bc I say so):
Starting with contemporary…
1)      Reverse hanadan where the fl is a rich asshole and the ml a poor little meow meow
2)      Time loop hanadan
3)      Modern Fantasy hanadan (sort of like the beginning of Bulgasal but more petty and less angsty lol)
4)      Transmigration low budget web drama romcom hanadan
5)      *barfs* modern office corporate romance hanadan
6)      *barfs again* gaming hanadan
7)      Sports hanadan (aka if HanaKimi wasn’t genderbender or cute but toxic instead)
8)      Coming of Age/ Youth to Adult Married life Hanadan
Syke! Too late! There is already an OG classic toxic Hanadan of this Genre, it’s called Itazura na Kiss (and it’s my guilty pleasure, my personal hanadan lol)
9)      Ice sports hanadan....yesss...get gory with the bullying with ice skating blades muahahaha. The red card locks her on the ice rink and they oil the railings/plexiglass around it so she can't even climb out and she nearly freezes to death. They rope her to the back of a zamboni and drag her through the ice. While she is trapped on the ice rink, they rig a bucket of water to fall over her so she freezes faster.
Now for the period dramas…
10)   Republican Era hanadan
They could use the boat scene ending from the finale of the anime as a convenient plotpoint to escape the republican era without dying in the republican turmoil. "Oh, they just reunited dramatically on a boat post amnesia and went abroad together and missed all the political fatal shit and lived happily ever after. Their kids returned to China and lived happily under the great CCP rule (/s)!
11)   Palace hanadan
It’s hanadan meets legend of Ruyi where he is the Crown Prince but the Empress Dowager holds all the power and on some humiliation move has him take a barbarian slave as a concubine...and the red card is that it's open season on her from every noble or regular consort of his harem and his friends in the court...all is fair the only rule is she cannot be murdered, everything else is fair game. So she is beating to the brink of death, poisoned daily with agonizing pills only to be given antidotes at the last minute, drowned, flayed, etc.
12)   Wuxia hanadan. Similar. Dude is the leader of the jianghu, declares her a demon bc she offended him and has all the pretentious righteous sects go after her with agonizing Gus pushed on her body, plenty of chains, kebab her in multiple ways with stakes in torture chambers to cast out the evil.
13)   BL Wuxia hanadan. (this one is just here by popular demand. Mine. No, I will not elaborate on that).
14)   And at last…my personal favorite….drum rolls… Xianxia hanadan (here is the plot):
She spilled peach wine on his cloud robes once by accident before the Great Heaven's Ceremony so he scribed her name carelessly on the stone of the doomed as petty revenge hoping she'd get some bad karma. But at the time the Demon Overlord was fighting the Lord of Fate and the Dijun on Kunlun and as they made their final strike the demon overlord turned into a cloud of heavy miasma that swirled away swiftly for miles and landed on the stone of the doomed. Hence, for the next 10.000 years the calamities and heavenly tribulations of every god were transferred into the unlucky FL.
In the first 300 years, the gods were unsure of what was happening, but soon word spread of a small menial demigoddess who seemed to be getting an abnormal amount of calamities and trials and yet never ascended into a higher level god. But other gods were getting past their fated tribulations dates without experiencing the event itself but still ascending afterwards. Soon this bizarre phenomenon was being gossiped throughout all the heavenly realms and the gods were rushing to get their hands on every magical item capable of moving forward their tribulation dates... After all, who knew how long this free meal would last? So it follows that our female lead spent the next 10.000 overbooked from torturing calamity to the next without a break or a reward.
Our cloud cloaked protagonist came to learn of this business about 500 years into it. It was not his intention for the karmic payback to be that harsh...but then again it was his best cloud vest that the annoying, insignificant little demigoddess had ruined...and if the consequences had been that rough, who was he to question the Great Design. He soon forgot all about it, surely none of that pesky matter would come back to bother him...
10.000 later: Our fuming fl finally had enough...after experiencing every form of dismemberment as a human, for eons, though she didn't collect an ounce of heavenly grace to ascend to higher goddess....she sure damn well accumulated enough yin to form a monumental grudge...and she would use all of that energy into one single punch for a certain cloud clothed god that would send him so high the gods would finally know what lies above the heavenly realm...not that he'd get the opportunity to tell the tale.

Reset (cdrama)
Just finished Reset and it’s my fav cdrama of like...the whole of the plague years?! I haven’t even liked any cdramas this year, barely tolerated a few, but this? this was flawless. On every level. Better than most western dramas of its genre. They have a cool concept, keep it simple, add only necessary elements and the attention to detail, character building, etc is on point. The acting is good, the leads especially, subtle but detailed, their chemistry is great and it’s one of those dramas that keeps you on edge for every minute of it. Did I mention I love the main characters? smart and good people, yet not annoyingly perfect. They mess up (the whole drama is trial and error) sometimes in impulsive ways, but never in unbelievably dumb ways. Perfect length too (ok could have been 12eps instead of 15... but still, excellent runtime management coming from a cdrama!). And most of all...it doesn’t F*Ck it all up at the ending. Do you know how many of the few dramas I almost reaaally loved (not liked, not tolerated, actually loved) while airing turned out to have such a shitshow of an ending that ruined the whole thing? Probably 90% of them... it’s a thing, cdramas have terrible or mediocre endings by definition and then only a few miraculously escape that fate.

The bastard son & the devil himself
I predict the tumblr craze for the next weeks is Netflix's the bastard son and the devil himself. It's a story between two rival clans of witches that are brutal and try to kill each other (ones are sort of cannibal too, the others succeed in the genocide of their rivals from their country) and the mc is the son of a mass murderer for the other side, raised by the rival clan and constantly abused by his half sister who is a psycho who wants to kill him. Also along the way he runs away with the daughter of that clan's leader and they both fall in love with a bi wizard who helps them escape.
Supernatural+rivalry+gore+threesome mc relationship? This the the most tumblr thing ever.

Note
I see a ton of conflicting information online and the movies contradict each other so I had to ask, do you know of any reliable sources for looking up horror character bios and timelines for the 80s slashers?
I certainly do. Finding direct sources can be a little tricky, this may be my bias but a lot of people just... get it wrong lol. But I'll put a few down here. If you have any specifics lmk
A Nightmare on Elm Street:
http://nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com/site/features/timeline/http://nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com/site/features/timeline/
This site has a pretty solid timeline that backs up it's info, and makes the most sense. Most people go by this I've seen
Friday the 13th:
This timeline is hotly debatable, and finding sources is really hard but since I’m a registered F13 nut I’m just gonna roughly break it down.
What we know for a fact is Jason drowned in 1957, Pamela killed 2 counselors in 1958, the first film is in 1979 (this comes from Pam's tombstone in p4), and parts 2-4 are in 1984. Every sequel after that is a toss up and there is no confirmed date for any of them. However, by guesstimating Tommy's age we can roughly place part 5 and 6 around 1989 and 1990 respectively. In F13: The Game, starting a match on Pinehurst (part 5 location) opens with the date "1989," so take that as you will.
John Carl Buechler has said part 7 is 10 years after part 6, which roughly puts 7, 8 and 9 in the late 90s/early 2000s, right in time for Freddy vs Jason in 2003 which matches up perfectly with the NOES timeline I posted previously. Jason X gives us the dates 2010 and 2455
I can't find any real good sources to back this up, most sites ignore the Buechler thing so they place part 7 too early. But this again from my observation is the most accepted timeline, people just disagree on years, so websites will vary on specifics. But generally this is it
Let me just say, though: when people say 9, X and FvJ are reboots that ignore previous sequels, they are 100% wrong in my book lol. For some reason, a lot of people like to say 9 ignores everything after 4. From everything we know about the making of these movies, they 100% intended to continue off the paramount sequels, just didn't have the rights to say so directly.
Halloween:
This is a nightmare.
Tumblr media
Luckily these films mostly take place in their release years with a few exceptions (H2 & HKills)
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre:
This is an even BIGGER nightmare
Tumblr media
This is mostly right. The one exception is, TCM 3 and 4 are both extremely bizarre reboots/sequels. It's really unknown what they are. They continue off the original, and only sort of continue off the sequels. They almost line up with the previous sequels, except their are some confusing contradictions that just don't make sense unless you ignore them or do some crazy stretching. It's better to not think too deeply about them.
Also, the remakes both take place in the 1970s and Leatherface 2017 takes place in the 60s if I remember right. Texas Chainsaw 3D was supposed to take place in the 90s but the studios forced them to have it set in modern times which really makes no sense at all.
Evil Dead:
Not a slasher, but people get pretty confused with this timeline so I figured why not talk about it
Tumblr media
(clearer picture: https://www.deviantart.com/kombatgod/art/Evil-Dead-Timeline-628952998)
I've seen some people make insanely complicated multiverse fan theories to explain the Evil Dead timeline, but it's honestly all bullshit tbh. The truth is Sam Raimi didn't really give a shit about minor continuity, and copyright issues required them to refilm old scenes for recaps in sequels. That's why Evil Dead 2 has a different intro and ending. Ash vs Evil Dead couldn't outright reference Army of Darkness, but it's been pretty much confirmed AoD is canon with it, especially since the new video game uses characters from AoD and AvED
Important note: Ash vs Evil Dead has stated the original two films take place in 1982. This was likely done because it wasn’t until 1982 that the original really started hitting theaters, even though it was released in 81 and filmed in 1979. Army of Darkness says it takes place in 1300
EDIT:
Just adding a few Evil Dead things. The intro and endings to ED2 seem to be a weird sort of “soft canon,” since AvED uses footage from them but uses the events of ED1 and AoD as primary canon. A lot of people chock these inconsistencies up to Ash being an unreliable narrator, which imo makes the most sense.
The Evil Dead remake is also debatably not a parallel universe at all, but could take place in the same universe as the main events. Some people also theorize it could be a sequel to just ED1. The director has confirmed these as possibilities.
Child's Play:
This is a little outdated, but breaks it down really well and you'll get the gist of things. The TV show added a lot of new backstory that needs to eventually be added to this
https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3444878/complete-timeline-childs-play-franchise/
These are the big ones but if there's any others I'll gladly talk about them, i love it lol. Most other slasher franchises are pretty straight forward
None of these charts were by me btw
For bios I’m not really sure where I’d look other than their respective wikis. Those can be a bit bloated with info from comics or weird misinterpretations, but they’re mostly right from my knowledge.
The Hellraiser wikis are a bit misleading though, they take into consideration a lot of the comics that imo muddle the original vision of the Cenobites. Understanding Hellraiser is a daunting task in and of itself.
Can you tell I had fun with this?

This Week in BL
April 2021 Part 3
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Second Chance Ep 3 - this is proper YA, they are dealing with actual high school issues, picking uni, first crushes, online dating, etc... We even got a senior prom trope which almost never happens in Thai stuff (just the freshman uni competition variant). Standard plot pacing means PaperFah’s kiss was too early, might indicate we’re moving to uni in the second half of the series? Tropes included: let me feed you, hand hold, black & white striped shirt, floppy drunk & first kiss.
Y-Destiny Ep 3 - the first MaxNat ep. Such fun to see them playing different characters. This one is enemies to lovers, tutor/student, but it’s using the “poor little rich kid loose cannon” archetype. Nat is doing his best, but it’s leaving me cold. Lots of tropes tho: boyfriend’s closet, floppy drunk, pillow clutch, the loom & water bottle.
Lovely Writer Ep 8 - solid installment, good use of many tropes. I really like the leads and I’m glad there isn’t much side dish action, SibGene gave us: punish, touch your face, boyfriend claiming, kissing, sleep cuddling, symmetry, rooftop, cheek kiss, hand hold, and pillow clutch.
Call It What You Want Ep 3-4 - couldn’t find the subs, don’t really care, will watch if it crosses my radar, otherwise I’m just not into it.
Brothers Ep 11 - the “everyone wants Chol” show continues (but WHY?), he and Tri are cute together, and now I kinda just want Prab to end up with the twins. I’m confused by the teachers, but Boston showed up (from UWMA), and my boys KhunKaow got together (YES!), so I’m ultimately delighted with the episode.
Fish Upon The Sky Ep 2 - the makeover happened, and we go from cute with glasses and braces to cute without them. (I’m reminded of those 90′s Pygmalion teen movies where the girl has glasses + ponytail and then *GASP* does not and *GASP* she’s HOT. This was the BL version.) Meanwhile, writers better be careful with Pi, he’s getting too tsundere to like. Did you see they gave AJ a 2gether music intro & pick up line? Well, it’s actually his brother JJ who plays Ohm in 2g. I cackled. GMMTV - you so cheeky.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 5 - half way point. My poor confused babies. It was a really sweet episode... if what happened before hadn’t happened in the way that it had. Also, these boys have a GREAT friendship but are probably the worst advice givers ever.
Most Peaceful Place (Vietnam) Ep 3 fin - so cute! Our boys confessed and got together. There was an adorable mutual kiss (I love me a mutual, like Ingredients). Afterwards, they actually seemed to communicate with each other about both sex and their relationship. OMG. How original for BL! This was the last episode, so the series is short, but I still enjoyed it very much. RECOMMENDED.
My Lascivious Boss (Vietnam) Ep 1-2 - oh boy this one is rough, we started out with homophobia child abuse and moved on to family drama + drunken dub-con one night stand. But production values and subs are better than normal for Vietnam (You Are My Boy levels) + our queer babies are out & proud + it’s higher heat + I’m weak. So I’m watching.
Word of Honor (China) Ep 25-27 - honestly not much happened, lots of back story. Things are looking dire for the ghosts unless they can turn the Scorpion (I LOVE HIM, he’s my precious deadly baby). Don’t know how they managed to make loosing a battle with an immortal sword god ex-friend cute... but they did. Did some calculations and at 36 eps, mathematically speaking, ep 30 will be the equivalent of a standard BL ep 11. Should I be scared for next week?
Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korea) Ep 1-2 - it’s so effing adorbs, soft bois do old fashioned tropes like arranged marriage + evil stepsisters meets the more modern fake relationship + secret identity in a surprisingly comfortable mix. It launched with baby is a floppy drunk, forced proximity, performative I saw you feed him, and some fun gay panic. It’s a lot lighter and faster paced than I was expecting, but this is Korea so I don’t know why I’m surprised.
Tumblr media
Stand Alones
K-pop band OnlyOneOf dropped a new MV that is basically BL bait, using many of the tropes we know and love. I promise I’m not trying to lure anyone into K-pop I just thought it was interesting how consciously they’re yaoi dipping.
Spin-off We Best Love Fighting Mr. 2nd, Shou Zhen | the Only Love Letter Once Written (SERIOUSLY WITH THE TITLES TAIWAN?) anyway there’s a something or other 25 minutes featuring Pei Shou Yi and his boy that aired Friday. It’s about 10 minutes of reboot footage with 15 min of new content, mostly set in the past. It entirely rests on Chih Tian Shih’s acting, fortunately for us he’s great. However, it doesn’t substantially change or add to these characters’ arcs from the finale of WBL season 2. I don’t know if there will be more or if this was just an extra footage fan service.
COLOR RUSH GOT ITS MOVIE!!! Okay this is almost the tipping point for me to get Viki Standard. It’s listed at 1:56 minutes long but the original series had only c.120 running time - that is a lot of new content. Although i was disappointed by To My Star’s movie I loved Wish You’s, so I am hoping Color Rush got Wish You level treatment. That said, I feel Color Rush the series is damn near perfect already, hard to improve on perfection.
Tumblr media
Breaking News
Close Friend the series got an updated trailer featuring MaxNat (no subs) so if you like them in Y-Destiny or in Why R U get ready for them to play different characters again, this time for a sports romance segment. Like Y-Destiny, Close Friend looks to be another series of vignettes (Original trailer) coming April 22.
2gether the movie (Thai trailer) was intended release April 22 but is now postponed due to a surge in C19 cases in Thailand.
Tell the World I Love You, a Thai BL movie that was supposed to release last week, is similarly delayed.
My Ride has been postponed indefinitely with no airing date.
The Miracle of Teddy Bear got a teaser vid, no eng subs.
Tumblr media
Gossip
Thai BL actors Nanon (Bad Buddy), Yoon (YYY), and Mark Siwat (LBC, Bite Me) have tested positive for C19. Press releases stated they’re fine, tho filming has paused fore their various projects, obvs. (No word on whether Nanon’s current project was Bad Buddy or not, although it seems likely given his recent Arm Share episode.)
Tumblr media
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed later than actual air date for International accessibility reasons.

Upcoming 2021 BL master post here.
Links to watch are provided when possible, ask in a comment if I missed something.

Hi Steph! I used to be really into the DC fandom a while back, but stopped as comics were Like That and I also couldn't keep up with the reboots and bad writing. I've recently started writing a superhero AU fic for another fandom, and I was curious to know if you had any Year One -type comic recs as I trust your judgment.
LOL okay:
Comics you can read without knowing Comics
Blue Beetle Volume 1 by John Rogers, etc. - yes he’s a legacy, but Jaime’s story is really self-contained, and even the cameos are explained.
Batgirl Vol. 3 by Bryan Q. Miller - a solid intro in Batman Reborn, and while it needs more Cass, it’s an excellent starter comic
Wonder Woman Rebirth by Greg Rucka - it’s literally a kick-start for everything, and while I like Year One better than The Lies, both are worth reading.
Superman: Last Son of Krypton by Richard Donner & Geoff Johns - this is self indulgent but it WILL give you feelings, and it works as an intro to Kara and Chris Kent.
Batman: Year One by Frank Miller - it’s Miller, so grain of salt, but it’s very good bare-bones, layout how it works)
Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid - Superman feelings ahoy!
Flash: Born to Run by Mark Waid - I’m a fan, what can I say, it’s essentially his Flash Year One, but with a new name!
But really, the key to getting into comics, is just... form an emotional attatchment to something, be it a writer, a story, or a character, and then just. throw yourself into all of it. The series that started me on my latest DC comics spiral was Justice League International, which is hardly a book I’d suggest as an intro comic to anyone else, but sometimes... you do what you’ve got to do.

Intro Guide to Star Wars Comics
There are a lot of Star Wars comics, and they don’t even all take place in the same timeline as all the other ones, so this is a basic guide. It certainly does not list all the comics. It is just meant to be a useful guide for people who might want to delve deeper into Star Wars continuity.
Continuity note: In 2014, Disney announced that it was going to be making a new Star Wars trilogy. In order to make new continuity, Disney retconned away the Legends continuity that had been built up over the course of nearly forty years. Some things were held over as canon, including (of course) the original trilogy, the sequel trilogy, and The 2008 Clone Wars TV series. However, the novels, stories, video games, and comics that were part of the Legends canon were placed aside in favor of a new Disney canon.
Star Wars comics are divided into three main eras: first Marvel era, Dark Horse era, and second Marvel era , which is the current one. The first Marvel era and the Dark Horse era are in the pre-2014 Legends continuity, and the second Marvel era is in the new Disney canon.
Marvel Comics (1970s and 80s)
The original Star Wars comics were published by Marvel, which acquired the rights to comic book adaptations before the first film was released. Indeed, Star Wars #1 was released a month before Star Wars opened in theaters. These comics are fun and interesting from an historical perspective, but they are not especially important to continuity. Many of the things established in these comics are directly contradicted by later canon (such as Bespin having a solid surface), although some characters introduced here are later important to Legends canon (such as Lumiya).
Star Wars (1977) - The main series. It starts with a retelling of Star Wars and then goes on to fill in the gap between the films. Goes on until after the events of Return of the Jedi. A lot of Luke, Leia, Han, and Lando running around and having episodic adventures.
Star Wars: Ewoks (1985) - This one is fun. Magic, princesses, evil witches, heroes, and, most importantly, ewoks!
Star Wars: Droids (1986) - Read this comic if you want to see Threepio being in love with Artoo. I don’t think anything else happens in this comic, but boy is Threepio in love with Artoo.
Dark Horse (1990s-2010s)
This is where Legends continuity begins to get serious. Many of the comics produced during this time tie into some other piece of media, such as a video game or a novel or a television series, and many of them tie into and influence each other. There are several different eras of Star Wars history here, and the comics are as good a place to start exploring them as any.
Star Wars (1998) - Starting in 2002 with issue #46, this comic was known as Star Wars: Republic. This comic is set primarily during the prequel trilogy and mostly focuses on the Jedi Order and The Clone Wars. Read this to learn more about Quinlan Vos, Ki-Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, Aayla Secura, and the rest of the Jedi before and during The Clone Wars.
Star Wars: Empire (2002) - This comic is set near the end of the Empire’s rule and follows such figures as Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and various Stormtroopers as they attempt to root out enemies and fight rebels. (Spoiler alert: The Empire loses.)
Star Wars Tales (1999) - This series collects multiple shorter stories in each issue. Many of the stories featured here (including the Force-sensitive droid and the time Luke wandered into a sandstorm on Tatooine and met Anakin) are not canon even in Legends continuity, but they are interesting and fun.
Knights of the Old Republic (2006) - A series set during the Old Republic era. It centers on a Padawan who, after being framed for the murder of other Padawans, has to go on the run and find out what is really going on. The comic is set before the video game of the same name.
Dark Empire (1991) - This comic, along with the two sequel miniseries Dark Empire II and Empire’s End, follows Luke, Han, and Leia as they fight against Palpatine, who has resurrected himself via cloning.
Knight Errant (2010) - This comic, along with the two sequels Deluge (2011) and Escape (2012), is about the adventures of a lone Jedi Knight during the Old Republic era who gets stuck all alone in Sith space.
Star Wars: Legacy (2006) and Legacy (2013) - These are set during the Legacy era, more than one hundred years after the end of the original trilogy. The first series follows Cade Skywalker, a Force-sensitive who does not want to be a Jedi, and the second follows Ania Solo, a junkyard owner who is just trying to stay alive. This is as far into the future as the Legends timeline goes.
This is just a small selection. There are a lot of Dark Horse comics in every era of Legends, and once you start getting into the thick of it, you can see that the continuity is pretty complex and interrelated.
Marvel Comics (2010s-present)
I may be biased, but this is probably the best era for comics. These are written and illustrated by some of the most talented people working in comics today (and I am aware that that does make me sound like a press release). The rebooted canon also makes this a great place for people who are not long-time fans of the series to jump in, as you don’t need to worry about all the Legends characters and plot points. (That said, I will always be bitter that Disney decided to end the Legends canon.)
Star Wars (2015) - Like the original 1977 series, this comic takes place in between Episodes IV and V, following the adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han as they assist the Rebel Alliance and fight the Empire.
Shattered Empire (2015) - Released in the lead up to The Force Awakens, this comic introduced the characters of Shara Bey and Kes Dameron, Poe’s parents, and follows them in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Endor.
Chewbacca (2015), Lando (2015), Princess Leia (2015) - Marvel released these miniseries to highlight the individual characters. Chewbacca crash lands and finds himself in charge of helping a young girl, Lando pulls off a dangerous heist with the help of some unsavory characters, and Leia struggles with what it means to be the princess of a planet that no longer exists.
Darth Vader (2015) - Follows the adventures of Darth Vader. Closely related to Star Wars (2015) but showing the other side of the story. This comic is also notable for its introduction of the character of Doctor Aphra, who would later get her own spin-off series.
Poe Dameron (2016) - The adventures of Poe and Black Squadron as they fight the First Order under the instruction of General Leia Organa. This series has the best canon characterization of Poe that you’ll find anywhere.
Obi-Wan and Anakin (2016) - Set a few years after The Phantom Menace, this comic tells a story of a time when Anakin almost left the Jedi Order and how Obi-Wan convinced him to stay.
That’s a lot of comics! And that’s just a part of what the wonderful, confusing, exhausting world of Star Wars comics has to offer. I hope this guide provides some useful information for people who might want to get into reading comics in canon either old or new. And if you need or want any more information, Wookiepedia has a complete list of all Star Wars comics that you can refer to.

Favourite Fighting Video Games of All Time
Ever since I was a kid and started playing video games I was immediately drawn to the fighting genre. The colourful characters, the fun co-op gameplay up against friends and the ridiculous stories kept me coming back for more.
Now, I want to honour some of the most influential and beloved games in the genre’s history in this little tribute post.
Tekken 2 - PlayStation, 1996
Tumblr media
Tekken 2 offered bright colours, a large roster of characters with fluid and varied movements, beautiful stages, a complex type of gameplay that was, however, very beginner-friendly as well as the very innovative, for the time, practice mode.
Score: 8.9 / 10
Soul Edge - PlayStation, 1996
Tumblr media
Soul Edge offered fluid character movement and gorgeous graphics, including lighting effects as characters swung their weapons around. Gameplay is really fun and the charactrs are pretty cool and all have unique stories and backgrounds. The intro remains to this day as one of the most iconic in fighting video game history.
Score: 8.9 / 10
Tekken 3 - PlayStation, 1998
Tumblr media
One of the most succcesful fighting video games ever, as well as the fourth most succesful PlayStation game in general, Tekken 3 offered some great music and sick-looking graphics. Gameplay became more detailed and fast-paced and many veterans (nowadays) of the series mae their debut in 3.
Score: 9.6 / 10
Street Fighter Alpha 3 - PlayStation, 1998
Tumblr media
Featuring some of the most innovative gameplay in the series up to this point, Alpha 3 is the second re-release of Street ighter Alpha, featuring even more characters than ever before and even including different gampleay variations from previous games in the series.
Score: 9.3 / 10
SoulCalibur - Dreamcast, 1999
Tumblr media
SoulCalibur is considered one of the very few arcade games that were even more impressive when release for hoem consoles. featuring beautiful graphics and refining the now iconic gameplay introduced in Soul Edge, SoulCalibur is considered one of the best Dreamcast games ever made, and one of the best fighting video games in general.
Score: 9.8 / 10
Tekken Tag Tournament - PlayStation 2, 2000
Tumblr media
Tekken Tag Torunament brought even prettier graphics to the table as well as bringing back almost every single Tekken character that existed up to that point, for a little 2 Vs. 2 action!
Score: 8.5 / 10
DOA2: Hardcore - Playtation 2, 2000
Tumblr media
Expanding the original’s gameplay and game modes like never before, Hardcore is one of the many re-releases of the original Dead or Alive 2 game. Stages and character model all look amazing and the series’ trademark gameplay was probably at it’s peak in this installment. Bad English translation and breast physics aside, Dead or Alive 2 proved that the series was able to compete with the best.
Score: 9.1 / 10
Dead or Alive 3 - Xbox, 2001
Tumblr media
Boasting a unique attention to detail, Dead or Alive 3 arrived straight after 2 to solidify Dead or Alive’s position in the industry. Dead or Alive 3 was the first in a line of Xbox-exclusive titltes in the franchise and it went on to become one of the most succesful Xbox fighting games ever and one of the most succesful in it’s own franchise.
Score: 8.7 / 10
Virtua Fighter 4 - PlayStation 2, 2002
Tumblr media
By 2002 Virtua Fighter was already known for always looking pretty, but 4 knocked it out of the park! Gameplay became more refined and complex than ever before, offering a really handy tutorial in order to get players prepared for some of the most intricate battles in fighting game history!
Score: 9.4 / 10
SoulCalibur II - PlayStation 2 / GameCube / Xbox, 2003
Tumblr media
The most succesful entry in the franchise, SoulCalibur II refined it’s core mechanics and graphics and also introduced new characters along with a new trend in the genre; guest charaters. SoulCalibur II is one of the most accessible games in the genre, making it pretty easy for newcomers to pick up the game and start mastering its mechanics right away.
Score: 9.2 / 10
Tekken 5 - PlayStation 2, 2005
Tumblr media
Nerfing many of the new mechanics and changes introduced in Tekken 4, Tekken 5 was sort of a “back-to-basics” kind of game, which was perfect as it came right around the series 10th anniversary! Fast-paced gameplay, customizable characters, lots and lots of characters and a ton of modes to enjoy. Tekken 5 was a hit!
Score: 8.8 / 10
SoulCalibur III - PlayStation 2, 2005
Tumblr media
Gorgeous stages set across Europe, Africa and Asia in 1590 A.D., a colourful cast of charaters and fun, fast-paced gameplay. SoulCalibur III continued the streak of very solid games that had been going steady ever since the original in 1996, a feat not many franchises can boast to have accomplished.
Score: 8.6 / 10
Dead or Alive 4 - Xbox 360, 2005
Tumblr media
Further refining and balancing it’s formula, Dead or Alive 4 is more or less considered the most demanding in the series. But that doesn’t mean casuals can’t have fun with it because the game looks gorgeous and it was also one of the first fighting games, if not the only at the time, to have online gameplay.
Score: 8.5 / 10
Virtua Fighter 5 Online - Xbox 360, 2007
Tumblr media
The series’ core mechanics reached their pinnacle in this installemnt. The logic behind the core gameplay remains the same and, in theory, it’s not too complicated, but it is in fact much deeper, and requires much more precision and focus to excel at it; Virtua Fighter 5 is a game for hardcore fighters.
Score: 8.9 / 10
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3, 2008
Tumblr media
Possibly the most important fighting game ever, this version of Street Fighter II comes with updated gorgeous visuals and onine play too!
Score: 8.7 / 10
Street Fighter IV - Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3, 2009
Tumblr media
Making a glorious return after a decade of absence, Street Fighter IV returned to bring back it’s roster of colourful world warriors on the scene. Creating a splendid mix of old and new mechanics, Street Fighter was officially back in bussiness!
Score: 9.3 / 10
Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition - Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3, 2011
Tumblr media
Coming with new visuals and online play, this version of Street Fighter III is the most recent in Street Fighter’s often confusing in-game timeline featuring a new generation of fighters as well as a  select few of the battle-hardened veterans.
Score: 8.6 / 10
Mortal Kombat - Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3, 2011
Tumblr media
Mortal Kombat is at the same time a continuation and a reboot to the series, combining nostalgia and a return to form with new gameplay mechanics and even more brutal aesthetics than ever before. Mortal Kombat achieved a unique triumph in the department of story, a game aspect that is usually overlooked or staright up ignored when it comes to fighting games, and set a golden standard for the industry ever since, with more and more developers attempting to flesh out their universe with a cohesive story mode, all thanks to Mortal Kombat.
Score: 8.5 / 10
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - Microsoft Windows / PlayStation 4, 2018
Tumblr media
After response for the base Street Fighter V was lukewarm, the Arcade Edition rerelease came as a breath of fresh air by fleshing out the gameplay and reinstating the long-awaited Arcade mode!
Score: 8.8 / 10
Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate - Microsoft Windows / PlayStation 4 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X/S / PlayStation 5, 2020
Tumblr media
Mortal Kombat 11 came with a more slow-paced type of combat than what players were used to up to then as well as having a very handy tutorial mode and the superb story mode players have to expect from Mortal Kombat by now. Ultimate combines the Aftermath DLC story mode that came out afterwards as well as all the DLC characters released up to that point.
Score: 8.9 / 10

So in general, I was QUITE happy with the Animaniacs reboot. I think they in general did a solid job capturing the original spirit of the show. When they bust into the almost shot for shot redone intro (for the first verse, at least), and throughout the entire first ep, I was on a nostolgia high, laughing my head off, and generally that continued throughout the show! Lots of very clever jokes, tongue in cheek, meta... what you would expect from Animaniacs!
But there were a few things that niggled throughout.
Animaniacs spoilers below.
So yes, first, I really missed the expanded support cast. I get why they cut a bunch of them, I do. A decent amount of the original cast were based on stereotypes, wouldn’t work today, or were otherwise somewhat problematic. But I think they could have utilized some of them, re-worked a few more of them, and had more than the brief cameo that they did have (more on THAT later).
They alternatively could have started developing some more characters that we could get attached to! Frankly, the few shorts they did with *new* characters honestly made me question the line about “our brand new cast who tested well in focus group research”.
My BIGGEST complaint is what they did to poor Chicken Boo. I always really enjoyed the Chicken Boo sketches. As a kid, sure, it was certainly funny that it was a giant chicken disguising himself as a human. But the thing about Chicken Boo and his sketches is that: 1) he a giant chicken, poorly disguised and generally silent (or speaking nothing but clucks) 2) no one apparently can see through this obvious disguise (except one nay-sayer) 3) HE ALWAYS DOES A REALLY EFFECTIVE JOB -- he’s always a well-liked, efficient chicken who does his job (or whatever) well. The ONLY thing that the rest of the cast find fault with is the fact that he’s a giant chicken. So, when 4) he is revealed to be a chicken and driven out of town, there’s a certain inherent tragedy. He was an accepted member of society until this reveal, and suddenly everyone who previously adored him turns on him. It’s clearly an unfair reaction, and one could probably write some long analysis discussing his treatment and how society treats ‘the other.’
So, poor Chicken Boo is an outcast from society, and here they make him a villain? Who  -- contrary to any sketch before -- actually does have an amazingly good disguise? And can actually speak? And does a terrible job doing what he’s trying to do? Which is that he apparently reacted to his alienation by becoming the cartoon equivalent of a serial killer??? Are you kidding me????? (Also, how the hell did anyone manage to catch Slappy?}
I did NOT see this coming because it was NOT in character for him, so my delight in the cameos of former Animaniacs bit characters (gruesome though the cameo may have been) was suddenly cut short.
Other more minor complaints include:
Brain is a bit more evil than usual (wanting to have children build bombs???). The dude wants control, not to destroy everything!
The animation style of non-classic characters didn’t really.... fit? Like, it was super angular and didn’t quite mash well with the Warners themselves. They looked like they always did! Which is why the new characters contrasted do much. They looked like different KINDS of cartoons.
The animation was also weirdly detailed. I kept noticing things like really pronounced nipples, overly bodacious boobs almost falling out of dresses, weirdly long and salivating tongues, hair protruding from the top of Odyssius’s kilt. And I don’t think there was a single episode without a bouncing bootie with individual butt cheeks doing a little dance. It just felt.... intrusively in-your-face. I might not have this issue if it were a completely different show, but I didn’t think it fit with Animaniacs well.
As far as a reboot goes, these are not the biggest complaints ever (bar characterization issues). It’s one of the better reboots I’ve seen! I will happily watch season 2. But. Pobody’s Nerfect.

Godzilla Singular Point: The Weird History of Jet Jaguar
https://ift.tt/3jvPBwC
The latest take on Toho’s iconic, building-crushing lizard comes in the form of Godzilla Singular Point, an anime series now available in dubbed form on Netflix. Taking place in the not-too-distant future, this reimagining of the King of Monsters involves a group of human characters becoming aware – through rather bizarre ways – of a coming apocalyptic event. Now the only thing that can save them is a behemoth out to punch monsters and look out for the little guy.
No, not Godzilla. He’s actually the apocalyptic event. No, our hero is none other than Jet Jaguar.
Yes, it’s finally time for Jet Jaguar to get his due.
A concept nearly 50 years old at this point, Jet Jaguar is one of those characters who was initially doomed to fail, but lives on due to nostalgia and the golden notion of, “I realize most people hated that thing from my childhood, but I bet I could make it good!” At best, he was a rad addition to the Godzilla mythos. At worst, he was a dumb idea from a dumb movie. For the most part, he’s remembered as something goofy that gets laughed at, despite having some genuine earnestness.
Jet Jaguar was created from both a fan contest and a corporate game of telephone. Back in 1972, to jump on the bandwagon of tokusatsu giant superhero/robot shows, Toho asked fans to design their own superhero design. The winner was a half-man/half-bird robot with a lengthy neck resembling a stack of rings named Red Alone. The concept was turned into a full-on rubber costume, but they changed the color scheme, which upset the young winner. They later decided to just scrap the whole thing, keep the color scheme, and make their own new design. And so, Jet Jaguar was born.
The superhero made an entire one movie appearance in 1973’s Godzilla vs. Megalon. As the urban legend goes, this was initially intended to be a standalone Jet Jaguar movie that the studio just didn’t have faith in towards the end and they hastily threw in Godzilla and recurring Godzilla villain Gigan. While the claim is dubious and unproven, it certainly is easy to understand where the allegations come from.
Everything about the movie feels rushed. As the last-minute replacement for another Godzilla film that didn’t pan out, filming took several weeks and production was a mere six months. Even the Godzilla costume was whipped up in record time. As for the story, outside of the intro, the preexisting elements (Godzilla and Gigan) aren’t thrown in until about 2/3 into the movie. Up until that point, it feels like a Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon movie with the production team hitting the panic button.
The plot of Godzilla vs. Megalon is that a scientist Goro Ibuki is working on a robot called Jet Jaguar, along with his little brother Rokuro and his best friend Hiroshi. They get wrapped up in a plot involving a group of beings from Atlantis-But-Not-Really, who are annoyed at all the nuclear bomb tests going on in their neck of the woods. They steal Jet Jaguar and use him to guide their insect god Megalon to different cities for the sake of smashing them up and punishing humanity.
Goro and friends get their hands on Jet Jaguar’s controls and use him to lead Godzilla to where Megalon is. Then the Seatopians call some alien friends for a solid and have them send in Gigan. Jet Jaguar is able to break away from all control and becomes fully sentient, as well as revealing the ability to turn into a giant. It becomes a big tag team battle, mostly remembered for Godzilla doing the silliest dropkick you’ve ever seen, followed by a second one for good measure.
The villains escape, Jet Jaguar and Godzilla shake hands, they go their separate ways, and Jet Jaguar reunites with the humans heroes after shrinking back down. He gets his own snazzy theme song to close things out.
In Japan, the movie wasn’t all that successful. As the thirteenth title in the Godzilla series, it brought in the worst returns yet. Between public burnout and the movie’s lack of quality, it just wasn’t grabbing people. That said, it came out at just the right time in the United States. Released in 1976, it came out months before the anticipated King Kong remake. The American movie poster for the movie even bit on the King Kong poster by featuring Godzilla and Megalon duking it out while each standing on a different Twin Tower, even though the movie at no point took place in the States.
A year later, the movie would be cut down into 48 minutes so they could broadcast it on NBC in prime time, across an hour with commercials. The only reason I mention this at all is because it was hosted by John Belushi wearing a Godzilla costume, which is sadly somewhere in the abyss of golden lost media.
Getting back to Jet Jaguar – the topic of this article – I feel the need to bring up Germany’s handling of the movie’s translation. Rather than call him “Jet Jaguar,” they referred to him as “King Kong.” I mean…sure, why not. Even weirder, when the next two movies introduced fellow giant robot MechaGodzilla, Germany once again referred to the robot as “King Kong.” Guys, I know what you’re going for here, but it doesn’t work that way.
Anyway, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla and Terror of MechaGodzilla followed Godzilla vs. Megalon and closed off the classic Showa Era of Godzilla movies. Not only did Japan need to rest Godzilla as a concept for nearly a decade, but this also meant that whenever Godzilla would come back, it was going to be some kind of reboot or new “only the first movie counts” installment. Jet Jaguar was never high on the list to be brought back, especially since MechaGodzilla completely overshadowed him.
He would at least get a little more exposure in 1991 when Godzilla vs. Megalon was featured in the second season of Mystery Science Theater 3000. While much of the episode is spent making fun of one of the Seatopians for looking like Oscar Wilde, they toss plenty of jokes at Jet Jaguar. Most memorably, they “translate” Jet Jaguar’s ending theme, which notes that his mother never loved him and he looks a lot like Jack Nicholson.
Due to rights issues, Godzilla vs. Megalon is one of the few MST3K episodes that is no longer legally available for viewing. This does make the original MST3K Collection Volume 10 box set (which included Godzilla vs. Megalon as one of the four movies) a collector’s item, as it was later discontinued and rereleased with The Giant Gila Monster taking its spot.
A stranger use of Jet Jaguar comes in the form of Certain Distant Suns’ music video for “Bitter” in 1995. While there’s not much of a narrative outside of the band playing, footage of Godzilla vs. Megalon being shown, and a few shots of guys walking around in Megalon and Jet Jaguar costumes, I really insist you give the video a look due to the ending. It certainly goes in a direction I wasn’t expecting.
In 1997, Jet Jaguar made his next official appearance in another frankly bizarre spectacle. In Japan, a series called Godzilla Island appeared on TV in three-minute increments. While it only lasted a year, there were a whopping 256 episodes, meaning almost 13 hours of footage. If you’ve never heard of Godzilla Island, you might be thinking, “Wow, almost 13 hours of Godzilla stuff? Why isn’t this more well known?”
Well, it probably has a lot to do with the fact that instead of using guys in rubber suits, the kaiju action was done with action figures. Yikes.
Not only did Jet Jaguar show up during these adventures, but they gave him the 90s superhero action figure treatment. Much like how they released as many figures of Batman as possible for different crime-fighting scenarios, Godzilla Island gave us Silver Jet Jaguar, Medical Jet Jaguar, and even Fireman Jet Jaguar. Collect them all!

In the early 2000s, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee was released for the GameCube and Xbox under the Atari brand. It was a fighting game featuring various characters from Godzilla lore and though Atari wanted to include Jet Jaguar, Toho refused. Still, at least Megalon was included in the game. There would be two sequels in the form of Godzilla: Save the Earth and Godzilla: Unleashed. FINALLY, Jet Jaguar was playable, because if there’s anything you can count on, it’s scraping the bottom of the barrel when you’re working on multiple installments of a nostalgic who’s who project.
He’d also return in 2014’s Godzilla game for PlayStation 3 and 4. The producer of the game didn’t even plan on putting him in there, but he saw that the programmers already were working on him and just shrugged it off. There was a special trick to summoning Jet Jaguar as a boss character. By ending up in three different Godzilla vs. Jet Jaguar scenarios and winning all three times, you would then unlock a special cutscene of the two shaking hands while a confused military woman would wonder about their history.
Around the mid-2010s, IDW Publishing was all about releasing a bunch of comics with the Godzilla license. Their mainline series was Godzilla: Rulers of the Earth, which went on for 25 issues. Early on, Jet Jaguar appeared out of nowhere during a fight between Godzilla and the team of Gigan and Orga. In human size, Jet Jaguar flew into Orga’s mouth, then expanded into giant size, causing the beast to explode. Especially awesome was that it came with the cliffhanger text, “Next: PUNCH! PUNCH! PUNCH!” a reference to Jet Jaguar’s theme song from the movie.
Jet Jaguar showed up regularly in the series, coming off as Godzilla’s designated driver friend and handler. What I mean is that he seemed to be out to protect Godzilla, but that meant having to keep his violent ally on task (ie. pointing out that Gigan was nearby to stop Godzilla from attacking Jet Jaguar) and throwing punches when the situation absolutely called for it.
This continuity played up Jet Jaguar as more enigmatic than anything, as although he was mechanical, the only human character who knew his origins was killed off before it could be explained. Even one of the invading alien villains saw him on a screen and basically went, “Oh crap. It’s THIS guy!” Regardless, he still came off as a total badass, winning fights against Godzilla, Gigan (the chainsaw-hand version), and Destroyah.
Then again, at one point he needed to be saved by the 1998 American Godzilla, which at least proved as a reminder to the robot hero that there are Toho characters far more hated than him.
Toho started using Jet Jaguar again, albeit in sillier ways. In 2019, as an April Fool’s Day prank, they put up a teaser on YouTube for a Jet Jaguar movie. They also had him appear a few times on Godziban, a Godzilla web series for kids that, once again, used dolls and action figures to tell its stories.
Now Jet Jaguar is a major part of Godzilla Singular Point. To get into specifics on the plot would be like explaining advanced calculus, but to keep on-topic, Jet Jaguar is the creation of Goro Otaki as both a way to ward off monstrous threats and as a company mascot. Considering King Kong’s role in King Kong vs. Godzilla was “kidnapped to be a company mascot,” maybe the Germans were onto something with the rename.
Anyway, this version of Jet Jaguar is more mechanical in appearance instead of having to rely on making him look like a human in a costume. Jet Jaguar is there to protect the heroes from the endless supply of monsters, usually taking some extensive damage. Still, the robot gets rebuilt stronger and stronger and becomes advanced enough to become self-aware and speak in…well, the voice of a teenage girl.
I don’t know, I guess I just figured he’d sound like Astro Guy from King of the Monsters.
There’s a big hard-to-explain twist, but the main thing to know is that Jet Jaguar becomes a full-on badass by the end of the series, turns out to be a huge key to the plot, and has a completely kickass showdown with Godzilla. In a way, Jet Jaguar’s journey in Singular Point is a lot like in real life, going from a lame idea that appealed to kids and gradually being understood as a respected part of the Godzilla mythos. Something initially representative of the worst of the franchise, proven to be something genuinely cool in the right hands.
Now it’s time for America to return the favor. Once again, timing is on Jet Jaguar’s side. The Monsterverse was on its way to the graveyard after the box office intake of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but Godzilla vs. Kong came out at just the right time in the tail end of the pandemic to be a big success and keep the series going a little bit longer. There aren’t too many names in the toybox left to pull out, but at this point, Gigan and Jet Jaguar have to be high on the list.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Make it happen, Hollywood!
Godzilla Singular Point is available to stream on Netflix now.

Okay y’all, it’s the big day. The latest of the Ben 10 movies, after which I will be fully caught up on the franchise and can unblacklist it finally because two days is too damn much already.
I’m going in with, pretty much no info? I’ve watched one trailer, don’t even know if there’s more, and gotten hints of spoilers. Enough to worry for my son but not enough to actually know anything. Which, given Kevin is about all I care about, tells you some of how I feel going into this. Am crossing my fingers and hoping this ends with him in a really good space and having nothing to do with Phil because I have been worrying about that since I learned he would be in this.
Don’t trust that man as far as my piddly arms could throw him and anyway I don’t want Kevin anywhere near any part of the Forever Dipshit unless he’s actively dismantling the fucker. Asshole deserves to get turned into a toaster. Haven’t heard any ‘oh your reaction is going to be fun’ sort’ve stuff from anybody, so fingers crossed.
But, we can’t know anything until we get into it, so, Ben 10 Versus The Universe.
An hour 12 minutes, yeah it looks like my initial estimate might be accurate. I will be here the entire damn day.
Ooo, it’s own intro, very nice.
Okay, 1) like that intro, very much in the style of the other series and I like that about it. 2) Spent it wondering if they were going to include Kevin in the rogue’s gallery runthrough and instead it literally ends with the Tennysons and Kevin in the Rustbucket, Kevin being his normal little shit self.
Maybe watching this when I was on the rag was a bad idea because y’all I am already in tears he’s enjoying himself so much. My precious son. Gods I love him.
Can I just sit on this frame for an hour, would that count? Can fill the time with telling you how much I love my son.
Ben 10 Versus The Universe: The Movie (The Game: The Gameshow: The TV Series)
They brought in fucking everybody for this. Kelly is at the bottom of the list but I am putting my trust in her. Seriously y’all I am so happy with her work on this show, I knew the reboot was going to be good as soon as I learned she was going to be working on it, she is a delight.
Okay, actual show, apparently we’re starting at what looks like a small base. I don’t know for what. it looks like they want me to think it’s military but also yeah no. The pool is throwing me off the most, I think. I mean wtf?
Oh look, Smythe shit. A steam-powered airship-zeppelin. And Ben as Heatblast handling the situation, as one does.
Ben is so tired. He needs a vacation from this vacation so damn bad. Somebody else handle the villains so he can get like, two weeks to actually relax.
Ah, it’s an industrial server farm. I don’t know enough about those or if it’s even a thing to give an opinion. Smythe wants it gone though, to the shock of nobody.
He wasn’t to wipe out telecommunications so we’re left with telephones as our most advanced mode of conversation.
Ben, meanwhile, is asleep. Can’t blame him.
Ben is bored. This shit is like clockwork, he could probably save the day in his sleep at this point. Especially from Smythe.
“I’m not even breaking a sweat, and I’m on fire!”
Ben saves the day, hardly even has to try (pretty much doesn’t) and in the end even Smythe has to agree this is getting repetitive.
Huh, Max and Gwen were in the doom-ball.
Max and Gwen are not impressed with Ben having been bored while they were under the threat of danger. Ben has the very valid point that they really weren’t at any risk, even if they were in a mine.
Max, while talking about staying ready for the unexpected, gets a phonecall.
Ben: “Bet you anything it’s Phil. He’s got some big emergency and we’ve gotta go somewhere and look at something.” Gwen: “You don’t have to be so smug. Not everything is a dire situation.” Max: “It’s Phil, we gotta go to his lab and look at something. He says it’s pretty dire.” Ben: “Like clockwork.”
Honestly I’d be bored too. This is why they needed to add Argit, something to mix things up, change up the style.
Unfortunately I didn’t get any ‘your reaction is gonna be so fun’ messages so I don’t think we’re getting Argit. But hopefully, given space and Kevin are involved, we will receive an opening for later Argitness.
Hello Phil. I still don’t trust you. You have been nothing but vaguely suspicious shit on top of vaguely suspicious shit every since the season 1 finale and with your history in the other series? Where you were a dipshit from the word go? I wouldn’t leave you alone with a beanbag chair.
Ben, not taking shit seriously, Gwen unimpressed, Phil stating that actually it may be the end of the world. Honestly fuck it save the children let it die. The reboot sequels can be Ben, Gwen, and Kevin traveling the galaxy trying to, ya know, survive and shit. They gather an Argit on the way who honestly is amazed these three didn’t die within a day and half. Tell me you wouldn’t watch that!
Do you even have a bedroom or anything, Phil, or is that building just all lab? Do you pull a Kevin and sleep on your tech?
I don’t trust this giant-computer room. It’s giving me FD vibes.
Anyway yadda yadda object heading straight for Earth, we continue
Ben is so excited to have something new going on
Phil thinks this is a massive meteorite. I’m going to guess warship because I’m fairly certain I remember Incurseans being involved somewhere and honestly.
Oh Ben
I’m like 3.5 minutes in
Ben: If I turn into Cannonbolt you guys can launch be at the meteor and the impact would make it go kablooey Gwen: You and the meteor would ricochet off each other sending you into deep space with no way back Ben: I’d never have homework again Gwen: Ben please
“After months of analyzing your Omnitrix-” I swear this show’s relationship with time will drive me to drink
Phil, do you really think you have time to try to properly prep the child for space? I mean you’ve got over an hour of movie but in-universe
...Phil, why do you have a g-force simulator? And where the fuck are you fitting it?
Okay, seriously, I am concerned at this point by the shit he has on hand. Also why are they focusing on FourArms, mix it up, there’s nine other aliens available
You guys realize you don’t have much choice but to send him anyway? I mean unless you intend to hunt down Kevin and sacrifice him instead which, honestly would be in line with his adult interactions so far and honestly space was good for him in the sequels so maybe it’ll be good for him here.
Ben is so excited and Gwen is so done.
Upgrades to the armor shit have been unlocked.
Problem being, the new armor makes Jetray look, very humanoid. I am not impressed.
Gotta hand it though, Boy can get some speed now. Holy crap. Hate to see XLR8 upgraded.
“We’ve only got one shot at this” Ben’s moving fast enough I think you’ve got a solid three or four
Gwen, Gwen are you having an existential crisis? He’s passed the moon, he’s not coming back down anytime soon.
Ben please
And Ben lost that game of chicken with the meteor, having swerved away at the last moment, presumably because the Omnitrix has the whole ‘you are not dying you fucker’ thing going on
And Ben has been flown right into a fucking vortex of some variety or another. Welp.
Thirty seconds until the meteor hits, nobody knows where Ben vanished too, Phil is resigned, Max is blank, and Gwen looks fucking haunted. Poor kid does not deserve this. She needs a vacation from this vacation too
Oh Gwen, baby
Welp, everyone is fairly certain Ben is dead. Good news is, you won’t outlast him by long the meteor should take out earth in about four seconds
Motherfuck- If you are going to just vanish can you not wait until one second before you’re supposed to hit a planet?!?! Fucking rude!!
Motherfucking Vilgax! I should’ve known! Only you would be so rude! Also how much shit was your little ramshackle pod encased in that it was mistaken for the largest meteor seen?
So, Vilgax is here on Earth and our only defense is Max, Gwen, and presumably Kevin. Either Kevin is going to tap into some pre-reboot murder instincts or shit is about to get bad.
Ben has been carried through the wormhole to, Kinet? I think that’s Kinet, give me a second- No! No it’s Petropia! Listen it’s been a while let me live. Why drop Ben here? wtf is going on?
Swimming through space because your ultra jetboots stopped working
Somebody is watching this child. Who? We know not.
Ben: *times out* Omnitrix: Fuck no *builds spacesuit*
Ben, worried he failed and doomed Earth. It’s okay, it was just Vilgax. Once you find your way back home it’ll all be good.
Sudden spaceship. Also is space just, purple? Is that what’s going on here?
Oh look, Incurseans. Hi.
Omnitrix takes a while to register an alien language and start translating, which makes sense that it would take a little bit for a translator like that to kick in, the tech trying to figure out what language is being spoken. Don’t think I’ve seen that before in a work, very nice. Also the language is literally Incursean so, that’s nice to know. Handy for someone like me.
...Ben is being arrested by the Incurseans for multiple violent crimes perpetrated across the universe. Did not expect that from them.
Also Azmuth, please explain to me what precisely you did with this watch before you threw it at Earth?
...How you could mistake Ben for Vilgax I do not know, but it’s nice to know it wasn’t Azmuth causing wanton destruction and chaos? I guess? This certainly explains how the bastard knew how the Omnitrix worked.
Takes Ben ten seconds of being amazed at and in love with the Omnitrix to register that they think he’s Vilgax.
The Incurseans know about Earth. I’m not sure if that’s a good, bad, or neutral thin in the reboot. The whole ‘arresting a fucker for crimes against the universe’ thing has thrown me off.
Ben plays along for a chance to escape, meanwhile you know Kevin would’ve snapped and argued and fought until they had to admit he couldn’t be Vilgax because Vilgax wouldn’t lower himself to biting.
(I mean it, look at that child and tell me he doesn’t bite)
Well, Ben almost escaped. Too bad Incurseans have those long-ass tongues
Humongasaur fighting an endless swarm of frogs
Ben just is having a day. Honestly it’s lucky Earth’s not going to get wrecked by a meteorite because otherwise he’d be fucked.
Team Tennysons is trying to track Ben down on Earth. Apparently Phil has found the Omnitrix’s signal and they’re tracking that. Three guesses who they’re about to find and the first two don’t count.
Phil: He crashed from space so he might be- Tennysons: Finish that sentence and die
Yeah, the red flashing doesn’t clue them in or anything
And the energy signature looks different. Gwen, darling, you are experienced enough to know exactly who you’re about to find in a cave in the middle of nowhere in the desert (because of-fucking-course, my goddamn disaster)
How is the red flashing not cluing you in? Ben is green, Kevin is red, and together they make one whole Christmas.
Kevin hauling ass, presumably either because something is wrong with his watch (my poor son) or because the Tennysons calling him Ben is freaking him out (my poor son) or both (my poor song)
Okay, Gwen, the tone wasn’t awful but still, was not nessecary to put that emphasis on ‘Kevin’ after the ‘it was just’. Alongside the almost aggravated look when you finally put the pieces together and realized it was him? I know you’re worried for Ben but come on. You hunted him down, he is innocent in everything.
Also can we talk about, something is clearly wrong? I guessed something was wrong with the watch, I think I was right- Kevin was groaning after timing out, holding his head, it’s not normal.
The first thing my son says is telling the Tennysons to get lost (quote “You heard him, hit the road” after Phil tells them to call him when they go back to their search), which isn’t surprising given the look on his face after Gwen’s ‘it was just Kevin’. Something is wrong and now he’s upset on top of that because, well, we know him and how he feels about not being appreciated.
Also holy shit the framing, with Kevin on top of a tall rock in an empty cave, with his back to the Tennysons, making up just a small part of the shot. Really emphasizing just how alone he is.
(Dear reboot give him his rat and prison-dad for fuck’s sake)
(Nobody sent me any ‘your response is gonna be fun’ messages, so I’m assuming I don’t get Kwarrel either, damnit. I can only hope for openings for later Kwarrel in the franchise)
Oh. Oh my son. Oh something has gone very wrong and he is shifting uncontrollably. He has isolated himself so nobody sees him like this. My baby. My precious little perfect child
Notice that he is shifting uncontrollably and he has still not taken off the watch, which would be the obvious answer to the dilemma. So why? Was he too busy freaking out to think of it? Or does on or off not matter anymore?
Tennysons: Why don’t you come along and let us help you? Kevin: Fuck you and your talking car too
“I built this. I should be able to control it.” Oh Kevin...
“And that’s amazing!” And Kevin has no fucking response (except to be a crushing wreck but, I’m deducting the half point and moving on). Praise? For his work? Is that legal?
My son. My heart.
“I didn’t do it all on my own. There was kinda this weird dream.” Said while he’s making his way down to the Tennysons because in the end all he needs is for someone to call him amazing, give him praise, notice him, appreciate him, acknowledge his worth.
The Tennysons recommend letting Phil help because he helped Ben and Kevin’s response is, quote “I’m. Not. Ben! And this isn’t the Omnitrix, it’s the Antitrix*.”
*First time Kevin’s watch has been referred to by that name in the show. Prior to this it was always called a watch or an Omnitrix.
There is so much fucking going on in Kevin tell me we’re learning some of it here I’m begging, give me the inner workings of my son
...pause a second, I don’t wanna look it up because I’m worried about spoilers, but does Kevin’s watch look different? The strap system is different, I’d swear it. Or maybe I’m wrong, it’s been a few days since a Kev episode...
Kevin pointing out that he’s not a Tennyson, denying ever doing anything to help them, wondering what their deal is, claiming they should hate him (my fucking son! someone get this child a dad and a rat, a blanket, some cocoa, and some fucking love and affection!)
By the way, I’m almost 20 minutes in and it’s been over two hours. Kevin is here now, things are probably gonna start going slower.
The Tennysons letting Kevin know they don’t hate him. Max straight up saying he doesn’t seem like a bad kid, just a lost one. Which honestly is very true, he is a good child he just doesn’t really... he’s a mess and there is so much in him and so much of it sour and just- He needs love. Proper, healthy love and guidance by someone who’ll look out for him, put his needs first. It’s why I want Kwarrel back- he, Gar, and reboot!Max have treated Kevin the best, been the most healthy adult interactions he’s had, through the franchise. Kwarrel could be the adult figure he needs in his life, but he got the one episode and nothing and just- I just want the best for Kevin.
“If you trust us, we’ll trust you.” And then Kevin agreeing to come along as long as his watch gets fixed.
Oh gods the smile as he follows them! Like, a moment of happiness for the child!
Vilgax set a city on fire. I take it he’s in a mood.
Yep. Definitely in a mood. Also how the fuck did you get out of the Null Void?
Oh look, we’re back with Ben. Honestly the least interesting part of this movie right now, though I love him.
Although I gotta admit, I never would’ve guessed the Omnitrix being used for a mistaken identity plot like this.
...okay unless he was thrown in the Null Void before you can’t charge him with that he was thrown in unlawfully. Or at least one would hope so. This is space so, the laws have been pretty fucked up in earlier series.
Y’all so not know the joy when you see “How do you plead” and go ‘he pleads not fucking Vilgax’ and then you hit play and Ben’s plea is “not Vilgax”.
Ben is fucking tired of people treating him like he’s Vilgax and you can’t rightly blame him.
Oh, look, Walkatrout. Hi guys! Nice to see you!
Oooo, hello spider-like babies! One second guys I gotta get you a screenshot!
Tumblr media
I love them.
Tumblr media
Also check out these fuckers!
Seems everybody and their mother is here to see this shit go down
Hi Tetrax. Care to tell us why you are here as a witness for the prosecution?
Welp, can’t see this going well
Tetrax, you lying shit, what is your angle? You have got to have something to gain from this.
Tetrax, describing Ben: “It’s like- It’s like a squishy little sack of organs held together with hair. And it’s head is enormous.”
Ben’s making another break for it
“-these are not the actions of the hero you claim to be-” Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Don’t sentence him to the Null Void you already know Vilgax can get out!
I’m impressed by how much these people believe in Vilgax’s acting skills. Like the fact that he’s acting nothing like himself and in fact 100% like the small child he appears to be only proves that he’s a good actor and not that, ya know, maybe they should check and see if they actually did grab somebody’s kid by accident. I mean it’s not like shapechanging watches are a one-and-done deal, a fucking 11-yo made one
And Ben gets dropped through a portal to, somewhere. It certainly doesn’t look like the Null Void.
Poor crying baby
“You don’t deserve to wield the Omnitrix, it belongs with it’s creator- me.” Oh fuck off, Azmuth. You let a squid have it for fuck’s sake.
Phil studying the Antitrix. Apparently the energy signature is very sporadic, but seems familiar.
Solar, Polar, please, we’ve got shit going on. Important Antitrix information. Could you not take a vacation? Take your mother to Disney World or something?
They’re at the fucking house because Phil has the most powerful radio tower in the country. Of course.
The Tennysons sent Kevin outside to handle them and he’s just standing in the yard watching them and eating chips. Telling them to shove off so his shit can get fixed. How is he not the most popular character in this franchise? Has he not earned a fucking spin-off?
Fucking Dark Matter running through the twins like tissue paper
Gwen, a firm believer in the art of ‘Kevin needs to fucking chill’.
My son sees cops and bolts. Nobody is surprised, given his everything. Honestly it’s probably the safest bet he’s got in anything in life- avoid cops.
“Whoever you saw on those security cameras it wasn’t me!” Kevin what did you do?
Is shocked to find the cops aren’t there for him, my poor son.
Kevin: *is just barely compared to Ben* This cannot be allowed to stand
“Proud? Of me?” Y’all the look on his face! My son!
Tumblr media
Like he’s not entirely sure if this is legal but he’s not about to look it in the face! My baby!
Vilgax! Hello! I knew you and my son were both going to be here so I saved you a spot in the pit! Reserved seating, as it were
Fuck off, squid-boy, the kid built the watch fair and square!
Oh gods, tell me the ‘Vilgax was involved in the dream situation’ theory isn’t being proven here
Also the look on Kevin’s face when he’s noting having seen Vilgax before, somewhere between ‘wait a minute’ and ‘you, you are the one I must kill’
He was in the dream and my boy is freaked.
“Used you as a vessel to finally complete my own design” Vilgax you gave the child a dream with a blueprint in it. There is only so much credit you can give yourself. How did you even do that? Is this some new Chimera Sui Generis  thing? Superstrength, tentacles, laser eyes, and fucking dreamwalking?
Is the Freddy Kruger of squid
As I said designing the piece means nothing if you go handing out the design to whoever. You can still patent the shit, maybe, but you can’t claim that whatever people made with said pretty-much-opensource design is your property.
Vilgax: It’s my design, give it to me Kevin: Fight me bitch
Kevin ‘Fight Me’ Levin
Ya know, I always though FD would be Kevin’s first kill but honestly it might be Vilgax.
I love him so much you guys. He is the most precious thing ever.
Kicks Vilgax’s arm as he’s going tor the watch, backflips away, perfect landing and out to kick ass
Vilgax if you wanted a kid who would just hand the watch over when you showed up maybe you shouldn’t have handed the design off to the most obstinate, anti-authoritarian, ‘you don’t tell me what to do’ child on the face of the planet Earth. You’d have probably had an easier time getting shit from Looma.
Poor gay couple who just got a car through the roof of their new house
Vilgax can talk shit all he likes, but Kevin is putting up a good fight. That’s another thing he maybe should’ve kept in mind, maybe don’t choose the kid who was doing perfect backflips presumably before he even got the stupid dream.
Okay, Ben is in the Null Void. They’ve tidied the place up since the OG series
Hello, species whose name I can’t remember off the top of my head. Good advice for the child thank you
Oh look, a Loboan, hello
There’s a whole mess of peeps. Including an Ectonurite, Vulpimancer, and Pisciss Volann
Dudes you already know Vilgax wants the watch why do you want to get his attention by getting it your own damn selves? It’s more trouble than it’s worth honestly.
These guys need to chill.
Yeeeep, deeefinitely need to chill
Ya know, Azmuth, if you wanted to show up and take your watch back? Now would be a good time? There’s a whole load of people here vying for it, earn the damn thing.
Hmmmm
Azmuth. Darling. Why are you in the Null Void? Why are you so firmly in the Null Void that fuckers know you and bend to your commands? The fuck did you do?
Everybody is talking shit about Ben today. He’s ten, let the child live!
Ben, out to kick Azmuth’s ass because he thinks he works for Vilgax because let’s be real, he’s had a fucking day and is also literally ten
Azmuth, just a rampaging dick wherever you find him
Also he has the Omnitrix back now
Jesus fuck, I just really want somebody to come step on Azmuth. Like, Vilgax is a dick but that’s his job, Azmuth is just, a fucking dick.
Azmuth you cannot talk about Ben being an infant and then turn around and say he should’ve known to kill Vilgax. He is a child.
Le gasp. Vilgax was Azmuth’s student. I’m going to assume you got thrown in here for not killing him your own damn self?
Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, annoying Azmuth into telling him the story of wtf happened with him and Vilgax
Young-Azmuth here is just, an image I never needed in my life. Give me Blukic and Driba back
Young Vilgax with goggles
And, shocker, Vilgax went ‘science is great but I can do you one better- universal domination’
Wow, Azmuth. Ya know if you’d had any braincells sufficiently developed you’d have known to kill him.
Azmuth. If you could have maybe one manner. A single etiquette.
Also, really? Sending the Omnitrix to Earth was the only option? You couldn’t destroy it now that it’s true destructive potential was known? Recode the damn thing to stricter parameters in a new coding language? Nothing else? Greatest mind in the universe and you couldn’t think of something, anything, besides sending it to a planet that would’ve been completely helpless if Vilgax had managed to get his hands back on it?
Ben: Okay, fuck you and your watch then, I’ll just go beat Vilgax myself Azmuth: Wait what?
Azmuth has set Ben a trial. You know the one, the ‘reach me within this time frame’ shit. If he passes he gets to keep the Omnitrix.
Attempt 1: No shapeshifting Attempt 2: Rath into Humongasaur
Attempt 3 starts with him having managed to end up outside of the trail area entirely
Azmuth is just a fucking dick. Ben points out that his entire goal is to save his planet from Vilgax, Azmuth blows it off because the fact Ben has his life’s work is more important. Gods just, being reminded how big a dick Azmuth is...
Azmuth, please keep in mind that the child is in fact a child
Ben and Kevin need to make friends so Kev can teach him some moves, he’d have kicked this Ectonurite in the head by now
Ben Tennyson, professional Good Child, saves the fucker that’s been giving him shit.
Ben figuring out new ways to use the Omnitrix and unlocking Goop!
Gods, Azmuth, now you gotta shittalk Goop too? Now you’re just being a speciest dick.
Ben saves a fucker, a fucker who’s been nothign but a shit to him, just barely fails the trial, and breaks down over not managing to beat it and save Earth. He’s so good you guys.
“Color me surprised that altruism still exists in this reality” you don’t get to make comments like that when you’ve been nothing but a dick the entire time you’ve been on screen
Azmuth has given Ben more time and a way out of the Null Void. Because it’s Azmuth, of course he’d rather stay there and wallow in his own bullshit that actually go out into the universe and do something about the problems he started.
Don’t waste your breath on him, Ben, he doesn’t deserve it
Dude he saved is now a Ben fan.
And Ben takes a sidetrip to save the Incurseans from a giant Null Void portal
And back on Earth Kevin is still putting a fight. He’s not winning, but he’s still fighting because he is a precious disaster.
The Tennysons trying to get it through his obstinate, broken little brain that he can accept help (and also that just because Ben does it doesn’t mean he has to refuse just to keep himself distinct from him (I am wording this badly but, I can’t word it right just now...))
It doesn’t work.
My son. Vilgax ain’t even tired and Kevin is but he’s still holding his own.
Holy shit Phil has a living room
And Gwen has become a hostage. Good job drawing attention to yourself kiddo.
Yes Gwen, bite the squid! It’s not doing anything but I appreciate the enthusiasm and the fighting back!
She hardly even counts as a hostage, Kevin went to straight punch Vilgax and the dude just threw her away. At least use her as a fucking shield!
“You must be under the impression that you are special, when in reality you were only good for one thing.” 1) Yeah, building what you couldn’t. 2) Kevin is a brilliant artist and engineer, good at athletics, with a natural talent for magic, all on top of a good sense of humor and a smile like the fucking sun, HE IS WORTH TEN OF YOU
Also, so far the movie has given me no reason to believe that he was given any parts or tools with which to build this watch so, on top of all that, all my earlier points still stand so far as far as Kevin being better than fucking Tony Stark with machinery. Is that why you threw the design at this foul-tempered, stubborn little thing, Vilgax? Not because you’re an idiot and he could build it, but because he’s the only one who could? I’ve seen no proof against it yet.
Okay giving us that, that fucking view of him after being tossed, fucking skipping over the asphalt, was not nessecary!!!
My son...
My son....
You did great sweetie! You were amazing!
My son.... My poor, battered, exhausted, son....
Also the fact that he straight up says he’ll try again later, which is just- I don’t doubt it. I don’t doubt he will wake up and immediately upon realizing his watch is gone head out to fight Vilgax again.
The fucking K on the antitrix turning into a V is aggravating for pit-related reason but also very thematically appropriate
Vilgax fucking chimerized himself. Fuck off, that’s Kevin’s thing. Just all about stealing from children
Vilgax steals his chimerism shtick and Kevin immediately starts regaining consciousness. My child
Extra toothy mouths too?! Fucking chill, squid-boy!
Kevin is up and moving and everyone is fleeing a pissed Vilgax in the Rustbucket. He is now on the hunt for Ben
Vilgax is, really putting them through the wringer and Kevin is not happy.
And Kevin, once they’re at Vilgax’s mercy, runs off to start shit once again with the fucker. Because my child is perfect.
He has hijacked fucking Glitch! Of course he has! My child! Harness the fucking Glitch!
He and Glitch, luring Vilgax away with ease because this man handles disrespect worse than Kev does.
The Rustbucket is scrap, but Phil might have an option.
And we’re back to Ben. When last we left him he’d worn himself out saving the Incurseans, straight passing out, and now, now we’re back to him.
The Incurseans saved him, and are apologizing for starting shit. Which is better than they were in past iterations so honestly I’m happy with them.
Incursean leader: You have legal permission to apprehend Vilgax Ben: I don’t know how to get home IL: We’ll take you Incursean Otherdude: We can’t enter warpdrive Ben: What about that wormhole I took before? IO: ...that would work IL: Great, let’s go!
They are going to scour the ship for Tetrax so they can bring him in for falsely accusing a 10-yo hero of being Vilgax
Back to the Best Boy and Glitch fucking psychoanalysing my child as someone who uses an abrasive attitude to ward of people who may hurt him but at heart is a good person
“Listen, if there’s anything I know, it’s how to adapt and survive. If anyone can deal with being alone with Captain Calamari out here, it’s me.” My son!!
And they’re caught. Somebody give Kevin a crowbar or something.
Holy shit Glitch sacrificed himself to give Kevin a shot! Fucking hell! That, I think that may earn back the half point lost for the Gwevin. Sacrificing yourself to save my son earns a lot.
Oh you did not just call my son sniveling and pathetic. You didn’t. You get the special pit with FD.
My boy is crying. My boy is crying. A squid is going to die. Thou shalt not suffer a Vilgax to live.
The first person to get me a picture of Vilgax being torn apart by Kevin 11k gets a drabble.
Glitch! Giving my boy the aid and encouragement he needs in this moment! You definitely get the half point!
Kevin, like Ben, is having A Day.
Did, did Glitch and Kevin just fucking biomerge? Taking my son up a notch? Oh yesss
Glitch has been working on becoming armor for Ben but, well, Kevin needs it right now and it did need a testrun. Kevin is so happy to get to use it first. Seriously I don’t know what happened in their backstory but, damn
My boy
Welp
Back to Ben and Tetrax really should’ve been ready to bail, taking so long is just unprofessional.
Azmuth paid Tetrax to lie in court. Raise your hand if you’re surprised. Nobody. I’m shocked.
Ben is letting Tetrax go because he’s like 60% certain he helped in the long run
*snort* Okay, like that fourth wall break.
Kevin and Glitch, still fighting Vilgax, to the surprise of nobody given Kevin does not cannot will not stop fighting
They work well together, they really do. Glitch is more entertaining when he’s actually working off somebody rather than trying to just, be his own thing.
Ben cannot catch a break today
The Tennysons in an actual car plus Kevin and Glitch, all fighting Vilgax together because fuck it, better than going it alone right now
There’s still another twelve minutes.
My son. My Son. “A pity you didn’t stand down while you still had the chance.” “I’d rather go all-in and end up squashed than stand around and let some slab of squid jerky like you stand around and take over the planet.”
Ben is back on Earth and ready to join the fray. Sorry Squiddly but there is no chance in hell you can handle Kevin and Ben at the same time. Actually I’m fairly certain Kevin’s not gonna end up a Tennyson half because of this fucking obsession with Gwevin and half because Kevin and Ben as family would end the universe all on it’s own.
The fact Kevin then proceeded to call him Squidly just makes this day better.
A lot has happened since you left, Ben. Everyone has been having A Time.
And Vilgax smacks Kevin away, doing that final bit of damage to take Glitch out of the fight. Which means Kevin is out of the fight, or at least will be in a minute because honestly I’ll be surprised if nobody sits on him after that last stunt he pulled.
We’ve got nine minutes, let’s see if Vilgax can stand up against Ben, especially after all the fighting he’s already been doing. Neither of them is fresh, but Ben is fresher.
Vilgax is kicking ass so far. C’mon Ben, use Goop!
My son! Acting like he’s not worth saving because he can’t be useful. I am going to hunt down his father and the FD and destroy them both.
Glitch can drain the car and start repairs. The Tennysons are being helpful and Good.
My baby! He is just, confidence has plummeted. Kevin, baby, you are the best thing on this show! You are amazing!
Max, pointing out that Kevin managed to hold off Vilgax on his own, and that he and Ben together can kick his ass. Phil backing it up with a ‘the world needs you right now’.
Yesss, support for my son, this is all I want in this world
“Stand back, I’m going after my watch.” What did I tell you. He’s getting that fucking watch back if he has to eat Vilgax to do it. He worked hard on that thing!
Glitch is falling the fuck apart, Ben is down, Vilgax is about to win, and Kevin is not looking like he’s about to stop anytime soon.
MY BOY!!!!! MY FUCKING SON!!!! THE PERFECT BEING!!!!!!
He dove at Vilgax as he was about to use the Omnitrix’s key to unlock more power for the Antitrix and managed to snatch it back from the bastard! Because! He! Is! Perfect!
Vilgax has still gotten what so far seems to be a net positive effect, but at least he doesn’t have the watch
He thinks he’s Jafar
Vilgax standing there monologuing about his own greatness and Kevin just calls him a doofus and launches at him as Bashmouth
Then straight to CrystalFist when caught to make vilgax let him go, he’s amazing.
Ben catches him as he plummets, fully armored up, it’s time for these boys to wreck some squid shit.
Vilgax just keeps fucking growing. We’ve only got like five minutes left in the movie, just stop.
Kevin just, no hesitation. He is going to fight a giant squid so help him god
Welp. They managed to land some blows.
The boys have been taken out, Team Tennyson is at Ben’s side. “Glitch is- is gone.” “What about Kevin?” “I don’t know, Vilgax hit him pretty hard.“
Phil. Phil what the fuck are you hiding? You are hiding something and so help me if it could’ve helped my boy earlier I will-
Kevin and Azmuth need to meet because Kevin needs to punt him.
Oh look, the frog-bitch is out of the Null Void and bothering the Incurseans. They don’t deserve this, they’re good people.
Oh look, Ben has unlocked Waybig. Fitting, I suppose.
It’s gonna be a curbstomp fight, there’s only a few minutes left and we still need to wrap this movie up. Hopefully confirm my son is alive.
I was right. Good fight, still very quick. And now we gotta deal with fucking Azmuth again.
And, shocker, Ben gets to keep the watch.
Okay, we have confirmation Kevin at least limped away. He was alive as of the end of this film.
11/11 thanks to quality Kevin content and Glitch finally earning my respect. I’m still serious about the Vilgax thing though- first person, a reboot drabble of their choosing.

XIAOGE WHERE IS YOUR SHIRT SIR
GONE
it died
omg not important now but. like the 1st few eps xiaoge appears in Reboot he just. loses his shirt in the most ridiculous ways its So funny to me that they were immediately like “u came here for shirtless xiaoge right? HERE HE IS” and wu xie is like Same god i missed my man
also i am now. contemplating if i ever even saw cheng yi’s xiaoge shirtless? he is just so like. emotionally vulnerable that his openness and raw emotions are all i even notice. also i should say like. while i did not find cheng yi attractive when looking at TLT2 like screenshot the first time? Much like Li Yicheng’s wu xie the instant he actually started acting I was like !!!! NEVER MIND HES PERFECT
except even more so. Cheng Yi’s xiaoge is probably my overall favorite. In part cause i definitely think he’s the strongest actor. Cheng Yi i think really does act at like Zhu Yilong’s level of skill, whereas Yang Yang is good but his show’s writing material really isn’t quite up to par with him so it brings his performance down slightly. And Reboot’s xiaoge is great its just he’s definitely not as central as Wu Xie in that show so he doesn’t get as much focus, and he’s acting alongside mostly All top tier actors so i think his inexperience shows a little bit - not detrimentally, like i’m very impressed and happy he could keep a solid presence in each scene up against the acting partners he had. I just think like idk cheng yi really Completely Brings it at all times and i 100% did NOT expect it going in. Also he is actually incredibly gorgeous (he’s in Love and Redemption as Sifeng who i think is just... the loveliest...), its just idk it doesn’t come off in tlt2 screenshots.
also tho TLT2 acting struck me the most for a few reasons. 1. the writing picks up better than TLT1 so it just immediately drags down its actors less. 2. Pangzi’s actor actually is INCREDIBLY good at nuance and i did NOT expect it after TLT1 - but this pangzi is a tie for my favorite (with Reboot’s). And possibly IS my favorite just cause i feel he gets more focus in TLT2 in his own scenes (but I’ve only seen 16 eps of Reboot so idk how that pans out later). Also... TLT2 has Liu Xue Yi who is another usually-side-actor that actually Really brings game and is closer to Zhu Yilong’s skill level. So just a lot of Suddenly-great actors with a better written/paced script compared to 1. So even tho TLT1′s actors i loved FOR what they did in 1, i think if they’d had better writing they would’ve stood out more to me. ;A; Whereas i expected low quality of TLT2 so i was blown away when it was more standard-tv-show quality with some stand out actors (that have gone on to do projects I’d check out - I WISH that Pangzi had done more, but he’s usually a side actor and not utilized as much as TLT2 utilized him).
aahhh now im just... i need to finish tlt2... i really got a weak spot for cheng yi’s acting.
its hard to explain but like. i really like how so far, at least, every shows specific cast has managed for the most part to do a really good job well-embodying the story/character aspects most on display by the writing of each drama’s specific style. Like Li Yicheng as Wu Xie’s intro is very solid, Xiaoge introduced as Yang Yang really establishes his inherent mystery and stress and power quite well. Then later on like we get to delve into their strengths/flaws and character changes as they grow/fail, and in the subsequent dramas i think those aspects end up shown more. Cheng Yi is great at xiaoge’s weaknesses and how he’s changing over time, Reboot’s Xiaoge is great at an older xiaoge who’s more certain of who he is/what he wants/what motivates him and connects him. And i’m glad they all handle the aspects they do.

Tumblr media
Congrats! you made it to the end of my loooong ass ramble.
Here’s some Ice Cream...

Wrong Turn ~ 2021 [Full HD]
Tumblr media
https://cinemax24.net/en/movie/630586/wrong-turn
Overview -
When a franchise has been stretched beyond its theatrical beginnings into the multitude of direct-to-video sequels - it's time for a reboot!  Wrong Turn - gets a complete reimagining that aims for the classic Murderous Cult instead of the mutant Hillbilly Horror sub-genre. Screenwriter of the 2003 original Alan McElroy returns with director Mike P. Nelson to give the franchise a fresh direction forward but ultimately the show doesn't travel a new trail as a group of friends goes missing hiking the Appalachia Trail. Overall the film works, delivers some gore-fueled scares, but pacing is a problem and the film runs far too long padding out material that would have enjoyed some slashing. Wrong Turn is getting a One-Night only theatrical release via Fathom Events. Tickets can be purchased through Fandango - Worth A Look
Young, fresh out of college friends will do what they always do - travel to a remote place where no one has been before and go for an adventure hike well off the beaten path. That's exactly what Jen Shaw (Charlotte Vega), her boyfriend Darius (Adain Bradley), and four of their friends are about to do along the Appalachia Trail. Warned by the seemingly ignorant redneck locals to hire a guide or stay on the path, Jen and her friends instead hunt to find a lost Civil War fort. Instead of finding a historical relic, they descend into a nightmare world where a cult has thrived in isolation for generations - and will do anything to protect their way of life.
The franchise relaunch is always a tricky prospect. It's one thing if the property has a massive devoted fanbase like Halloween that longs to see the primary villain come up with new ways to do essentially the same thing over and over again. It's something else when the concept of the franchise was already straining under the weight of direct-to-video sequels and knockoffs. 2003's Wrong Turn helped kick off the return to Hillbilly Horror that hadn't really been experienced since the 70s. Taking a page from the terrifying episode "Home" from the fourth season of The X-Files, the original film focused on an inbred family of mutant hill folk cannibals and the following five sequels ground that concept into the ground with little variation or fanfare.
Tumblr media
https://cinemax24.net/en/movie/630586/wrong-turn
2021's Wrong Turn takes a page closer to Ari Aster's dark comedy/horror hybrid Midsommar and other murderous cult flicks than the expected mutant cannibal hillbillies. Which turns out to be a clever avenue to explore, even if it's not altogether fulfilling. Original series screenwriter Alan McElroy earns worthy props crafting a scenario worth exploring. The script establishes a culture for this cult and a way of life they believe is right and Bill Sage makes a creepy turn here as the leader of The Foundation - John. Pulling some characteristics of cult leaders ranging from Jim Jones to Roch Thériault, he's equally menacing and charismatic. Jen and her friends end up playing a high-stakes game of cultural anthropology where the slightest grievance could end in death - or something far worse. And I do mean it that way. Those who die, thankfully die fast. Those who don't - well, that reveal is one of the creepiest most unsettling things this movie has to offer. If only there were more moments like that we'd have something special here.
While I would call this an overall successful reboot of the Wrong Turn franchise - it does enough different to make it worthwhile - my principal complaint is the length. At just under two hours, it's about fifteen minutes too long for its own good. Director Mike P. Nelson and his editors just don't manage the pace to drum up genuine suspense or the intended scares to have much impact. Conversations that don't mean anything last far too long where essential pieces of dialog for character and plot are shortchanged.
The film's opening with Matthew Modine as Jen's father Scott trying to figure out where she disappeared doesn't need to be there at all. Once that intro is done the next hour plays as a flashback to "six-weeks earlier." Then it picks back up with Modine and his search for Jen now that we know where she is. Given the movie's title that intro is just wasted screentime. The audience already knows bad things are going to happen; the opening only delays the inevitable without adding anything.
Characters are also on the painfully thin side - again, playing to genre tropes. Charlotte Vega and Matthew Modine carry most of the dramatic weight with an appreciable father/daughter dynamic. Again, Bill Sage is an ominous presence and Daisy Head earns high marks as the creepy Edith. The rest of the cast is there to fill time until they're appropriately 86'd in gloriously gory ways. And while there is ample gore, we don't really care enough about the characters for any demise to be meaningful or all that shocking. When Jen and her friends call out the names of the friends gone missing, you're constantly replying "who?" They could have easily been named after their character archetypes "The Jerk," "The Priss," "Gay Guy 1," "Gay Guy 2", and "Boyfriend" for how simply defined they are. You know who is going to die and how badly pretty much as soon as you meet this troupe of traveling friends.
At the end of the day I was entertained by this new spin for Wrong Turn - a franchise I basically gave up caring anything for around when the second sequel hit video store shelves. This film doesn't do anything new to the genre, but for the series, it's a notable refresher. Between this series' sequels and the recent Hills Have Eyes, on top of the remake series of I Spit On Your Grave, it was long past time to bury Hillbilly Horror and let that genre corpse rot a little before digging it up again. If Wrong Turn 2021 was just a little bit leaner it'd play a bit meaner and give horror hounds some more meaty scares to sink their teeth into. It's certainly a better movie than any of the past direct-to-video sequels but that may not be a strong enough recommendation.
Final Thoughts In the last seventeen years, the Wrong Turn franchise has run the cinematic gauntlet. It started with a solid creepy first film but endured through a series of haphazard (at best) direct-to-video sequels that strain to keep the name alive in the minds of horror fans. Now we find ourselves with a reboot that shakes things up dramatically for the franchise moving away from Hillbilly Horror and into the Murderous Cult sub-genre. And it works for the most part with Matthew Modine making a fine Action-Dad, and our new cult The Foundation a creepy evil entity to explore. Holding things back is an extended runtime and odd pacing that bogs down the momentum and impact of some of the scarier setups. Overall a decent relaunch to a franchise long gone stale. Wrong Turn is getting a One-Night only theatrical release via Fathom Events. Tickets can be purchased through Fandango - ultimately, it's Worth A Look

Best Marvel movies
Hmmm
Black Panther - an utter masterpiece
Infinity War - the dark, operatic Empire Strikes Back of its time. Emotional, epic, and a compelling, defining moment of cinema.
The Winter Soldier - a sleek, swift and exciting political thriller that cemented Chris Evans’s Cap as one of the definitive heroes of all time.
Endgame - though imbalanced by some questionable character portrayals and a lack of new stuff, it still serves as an emotional, epic conclusion to the first true saga of film with a practically perfect finale. The portals scene alone is a masterpiece.
Civil War - not as perfect as Winter Soldier but still a sprawling, emotionally bittersweet, and engrossing fall of the Avengers.
Homecoming and Far From Home - I think both Spidey films are about the same in quality and both are hilarious, bright films featuring the best film Spidey to date that are a great coming of age arc.
Guardians Vol.2 - though it suffers from a bit too much moment-breaking humor and some obnoxious moments, Volume 2 is still a deeply satisfying character piece for the Guardians with gorgeous visuals and another killer soundtrack.
Ragnarok - This one has it almost as bad with a bit too much moment-breaking humor, but it’s still an absolutely hysterical, unique and satisfying conclusion to the Thor trilogy that also aptly soft reboots Thor into a franchise and character we actually care about.
Captain Marvel - Despite the power level of Carol, the movie feels like a down-to-earth story about a woman trying to find out who she is and ultimately defying the true villains in a really great twist that actually works. It’s not as memorable as other MCU movies but it definitely works as a solid intro to Marvel’s most powerful character.
Guardians vol.1 - A funny, heartfelt space adventure that feels like a modern A New Hope but without being a JJ Abrams rehash. The characters, jokes, and visuals are all great.
