going insane about paranatural again, this time thanks to the theory i’ve seen floating around that shrike is cody’s mom.
anyway davy jones brain rot below. tldr mans is going though it.
taking both the shrike theory and the theory that pj is davy’s deceased first child or brother or something (personally i’m team pj is his first son but whatever), and his path from normal man to manipulative vampire overlord makes a lot more sense.
pj and shrike were both lost in presumably freak accidents and/or targeted attacks. we don’t know what caused either, but man if those aren’t both horrific things to suddenly happen to loved ones.
so davy copes incredibly normally to repeatedly being unable to save his family from the worst fates imaginable by becoming a massive power/control freak. if everything is under his thumb then he can finally keep his remaining family safe. cody is legitimately all he has left. everything he does is with the goal of keeping him safe and giving him the best possible future.
and cody? cody *hates* him for it. turns out obsessively demanding to be in charge of everything doesn’t make for great parent-child relationships
anyway compare davy to mayview’s other pun loving single father businessman — peter. who despite also losing the love of his life is still a normal person and has a healthy relationship with his kids.
I can only hope the wallet stealing incident spirals into a davy vs peter rivalry which spirals into a full on davy breakdown because why. who do you think you are. we’re the same except i have more than you ever will. why do you get to be happy. i deserve it more than you. why don’t i get to be happy. i miss my wife peter, i miss her a lot, i’ll be back.
anyway do you see it. do you see my vision.

Every ship is a valid ship and Larian did well with how romanceable all the party characters feel with each other, the chemistry they all have.
And.
Larian did something to the core of my being with the way they wove parallels into Gale & Shadowheart's wounds. Now, forgive me, I don't have screencaps, BUT
The way that both believe these wounds are their fault, and that penance is the only thing that will ease this pain for good.
The way that both believe these wounds are because of mistakes they are both making now, and mistakes they made in youth, when really all they are is markers of (chronic) pain due to abuse. And the ways that trauma can manifest as illness, and that the crushing thing about that is that trauma survivors then blame themselves for not being enough for others (sound like a certain wizard we know??)
And how, when he finally opens his mind to her (the tadpole does NOT connect your minds involuntarily), it is with a hand over his heart. (I have to look again but I am 99% certain it is her wounded hand)
But it goes beyond that, because of course it does. And here's where the diabolical geniuses at Larian get me.
Gale's sex scene, on a Shadowheart origin. The first thing she does to him is lean into (and kiss????) his orb scar.
And the first way that he introduces her to Sparkly Weave Pleasure™ is by taking her wounded hand in his and channeling what is ostensibly a very good feeling through it.
There's something here about recognizing and tending the wounds in each other, and turning them into sources of goodness and strength. Something about surviving and healing from trauma and being rid of that pain — eventually, potentially after years of enduring it — together.
Anyway I'm not normal about them!!!!!! Where're my galeheart girlies at!!!!!!

the fact that the dragon is one of the first things you see when you wake up without her. snaking through the temple. a familiar sight but not quite the same as the dragons you remember. you kind of assume that it’s just another strangely altered piece of hyrule. and throughout it all you’re looking for her but she was there the whole time. she is always there. she never left you. she waited thousands of years to find you again. i am normal. i am so normal

Still thinking about the episode ofc but the lines are stuck in my head
"What's your life without me?"
"Let's find out."
Like fuck that's gonna be ringing in my skull because it hurts. Like what is he going to do now. Decades of hunting this one guy who he may have other emotional hangups about that he never processed (prickcest) and now it's over just like that? He didn't even accomplish it himself. Evil morty handed Prime to him on a silver platter. I still think the hunt is one of his deepest dissociative crutches and now it's gone he has to face everything that he is now/has become.
What now? Settle down? Become wife(less) guy and just be a grandpa? Is the family life all he truly craved? Can that even ever be the same now? Because if he does regret it, if he really was driven by hatred of Prime so deeply, if he can't settle into that normal non hunt life per se? Then prime was right. His life has been hinged so long on this one lofty goal it's like clicking off autopilot and having no sense of direction. Where to now that the steering wheel is his?
Prime being so unphased over Rick being prepared to kill him too, especially if he was truly boned and had no backups. Bitter painful ranting aside I feel like I need to look into that from a motive and emotional standpoint more. Ahhh sweet pain.
I'm just gonna hurt over that for a while. They were both so sick over each other and neither got to process the emotions and fallout in the end properly if that's truly how it ends.
At least for now. I'm still holding out hope for a Prime return in some way.

I’m so sorry but I think that the funniest thing they did in Top Gun Maverick was the fact that to try to beat the “Top Gun is really fucking gay” allegations they paired Mav up with a different woman this time but in doing so accidentally validated an entirely new gay ship. It’s like. Hey. Lean in real close. Hey. Mav’s got a new girlfriend this time and they’re exes with a fraught past but over the course of the movie make up and get back together, isn’t that so romantic? And then five feet away from all that shit Rooster and Hangman are just straight up saying they have an history with each other and they hold an intense rivalry before they eventually get over their differences and become friends and all the while Rooster is telling Hangman he looks good for the fiftieth fucking time that day and they keep playing romantic songs to piss each other off. The most hilarious thing is that the writers constantly use Maverick’s romances from both movies and basically parallel the only straight relationships with Rooster and Hangman’s relationship, and it’s like? Is this intentional? Is there something you want to tell us?? Because those two have STRONG hostile ex boyfriend energy if i’ve ever seen it, and if the writers want to convince me they’re straight they have another thing coming. If parallels with the only romance on screen then why no canon ex boyfriends. If parallels with both couples from both movies then why no gay. Hmm. Riddle me that Tom Cruise
