Mello comes out to his mafia in the most threatening way possible. In so doing, he terrifies them out of using homophobic language.

Something like ... "I am the indispensible brains of this outfit, but I am perfectly willing to be the psychopathic executor of the most unhinged violence you have ever seen. I will never shut up about how unnecessary were the behaviors that led to Matt and Mello dying.

Be it manga or anime, the story executed getting rid of both of them terribly, because based on the information we have about the two, I fail to believe that either of them would end up dead.

I fail to believe that someone who held Lidner at a gunpoint while she was in the shower, unarmed, wouldn't strip Takada bare naked and shoot her if she tried to pull off anything stupid. I do not think he wouldn't at the very least properly restrain her. For Mello - who had no hesitation when kidnapping Sayu or threatening Halle - it's incredibly out of character to suddenly develop some sort of decency for someone proven to work for the enemy. It's not like him to be so proper and so careless.

I know that there's a big chance Mello knew that there was a possibility that he could end up dead after kidnapping Takada - as he was about to do the same thing Near did: bait Kira. However, he never made it there because of his very out of character actions in the moment as he let a potential threat be around him unrestrained, with parts of her body hidden, and in close proximity to tools she could use against him. Realistically, Mello taking a calculated risk did not matter: if Takada was restrained and had no way to access Light or Mikami, Mikami would still have made his move - and the story would have gone the exact same way it did with Takada still dying, with Mikami still accidentally exposing Light, with Near still winning - and Mello alive.

I fail to believe that someone who was the third at Wammy's after Near and Mello would suddenly stop the car and taunt the bodyguards - and not find absolutely any way to escape and survive. Matt has a canonical issue with carelessness, but he is fairly creative so I fail to believe that he would allow himself to be killed in such a stupid, frenzied way.

Death Note is a good story. One of the best in its genre. But its ending regarding the Wammy's kids is so painfully dissatisfying that it makes me mourn the story as it could have been - even better: with Mello and Matt alive to witness the downfall of a fake God.

that poll made me think of this excellent post by @magicaii re: mello’s fanon interpretation as overly emotional, and i broadly agree with all the points made, but i would also like to posit that if one subscribes to the hypothesis that mello and near grew up in a somewhat foster-sibling-like environment (which seems to already be almost universally accepted in the matt-mello relationship. is it even canon that they were roommates? it is so prevalent in the fandom that i forgot to even question it. but i digress)

in a foster-sibling-like environment at the orphanage a certain level of childhood intimacy would be inescapable between mello and near just by virtue of growing up together: having meals together, attending the same classes, sharing caretakers and chores, being teamed up by teachers during assignments, existing in the same recreational spaces, etc. even if they were never particularly friendly with each other, they would inevitably, perhaps even unwittingly, develop some kind of understanding (“something identical in them […] something which would dart to one face, then to the other, depending on an expression or a trick of the light or the angle at which a head was cocked”) by virtue of being intellectual equals above the rest of their peers. they are, after all, foils to the L-light relationship.

in fact i find it harder to believe that they would not have interacted often at wammy’s. being slated to become and in competition for the role of L’s successor, their tutors would have set them up to push each other through special assignments/tests/projects. it is a highly effective didactic tool used in all sorts of competitive and academic environments. mello’s “you know near and i don’t get along” would be thoroughly justified: who amongst us would not hate being Assigned Partners At School with your (self-declared) nemesis! roger knows this! he has probably threatened mello with a get-along-t-shirt! mello’s emphasis on you know is not clunky as-you-know exposition but an exasperated teenager going UGHH MOM! at a guardian that keeps refusing to acknowledge mello's protests

all of this is to say that, with this context in mind, i can imagine mello lightly “bullying”⁽¹⁾ near not because he wants to make a punching bag out of him but because in the way kids naturally learn through play and social interaction, he'd be feeling for his advantages over near (being more athletic, better with people, easier to get along with, etc) debatably he might even want to establish/prove these differences in the social hierarchy at wammy’s (given his high “social life” stats in dn13:htr) it is these differences (that near is too passive, emotionless, haughty, at least in mello’s head) which seem to frustrate mello the most, so it doesn’t strike me as out of character to think the boy who is introduced hitting someone with a ball and tugging at someone else's hair would surrender to his id⁽²⁾ and try to get a rise out of near, that he’d want to bring near down to everyone else’s “level"

and perhaps this is the shipping goggles i have on but there is something thoroughly intoxicating about being the center of attention of someone who you passionately resent when you are undoubtedly on top.⁽³⁾ you could argue mello subconsciously desires near’s admiration and either refuses to see it whenever it is there (“near told me i did good job, the condescending dick”) or near is absolute shit at communicating it (“your thought process in this essay was almost impossible to follow” <- badly worded compliment), so mello veers for the next best thing: near’s attention. much like with a bad cat, negative attention is still attention, and on god he is getting his fix of being so fucking annoying (look at me, why won't you look at me!) wherever he can get it

⁽¹⁾ie. wrestling him down in the playground, toppling over his towers, hiding favorite toys, pulling his hair, locking him in closets etc. nothing life-threatening or overly painful; the mean teasing of a resentful older brother, not the harassing of a bloodthirsty middle school terrorist

⁽²⁾especially when they are younger mello would have far less developed self control lol. by the time we first meet them, at 13 and 15, this light bullying would've been largely a thing of the past, with mello becoming gradually more distant around the time he transitions into brooding teenagehood while near is still a kid, which would've made leaving wammy's far easier (i also think that mello would firmly believe that he has earned the right to bother near while everyone else has not and he WILL be fighting them about it. only he can mess with near, thank you very much. typical older brother behavior. but this post is already too long)

okay so stupid mind comes up with weirdest imagines. I just "saw" how "I", well, my dn OC sent L a message with the song "Don't worry, be happy" and he somehow put it as his ringtone.

Before I talk about the wammy’s boys' ringtones, I want to say that you can comfortably refer to yourself when talking about your dn oc. I love OCs and Self Inserts the same, so it's not like I will judge you if you say "I do this", "L says this to me" etc. lol. Felt like saying it, so you don't have to worry about it.

Now, moving on to your question + if you were to ask them to change it and if there's a song that reminds them of you, because why not.

L

Generally - he has either the default ringtone or some completely unexpected song that makes everyone around him (like the task force) stop from doing their stuff and turn around to look at him. No in between.

I feel like the unexpected ones would be some sexual songs that are very inappropriate for the workplace, like WAP (pretending it's 2020), because they are catchy and usually he's working alone and he's not in public, so he doesn't really have to worry about others hearing them.

You as his partner - if you ask him to change it, he will do so. He will also change it on his own initiative if a song reminds him of you, and will set it only for your contact, so he will immediately know if you are the one calling.

He's also the only one (among these four) who would change it to a song you mention that you really like - like he did with you/your OC.

NEAR

Generally - I honestly think he doesn't really care about ringtones and he never thinks about them, because usually it's someone else answering the phone for him and then putting him through, so basically it is the default ringtone.

You as his partner - he will definitely change it if you ask, but that's how far he will go, because again, he doesn't see why it matters. If there's a song that reminds him of you, he will play it to you in person, and that's it.

Just imagine the both of you sitting on the ground and listening to a song in silence for three minutes.

MELLO

Generally - he has his phone on mute or vibration. He doesn't fuck with ringtones because they are very distracting and annoying in his opinion.

To be honest, I think he would like them if he didn't hate the default one and didn't have a hard time finding a new one that's more fitting and enjoyable.

You as his partner - if you ask him to change it to a specific song, he will tell you that that's pointless, because his volume is always on mute so he wouldn't hear it. If you then ask him if he did already change it, he will tell you yes, of course, but that his point still stands.

Bonus: before getting together - he's definitely the type of guy to listen to romantic songs and think of you, but since he can't muster the courage to tell you directly, he chooses instead to put it as his ringtone. That's his love confession in a way.

Imagine if he forgets to have changed it and gives you the phone for whatever reason for a few hours, and you decide to put it on volume and someone calls him and you get to hear this corny ass song. He will definitely lie and tell you that it's either Matt's doing or the default ringtone, which is untrue and Matt denies any involvement.

MATT

Generally - he literally changes it every time, based on how he feels, which means at least three times at day. So, he has a big repertory of sounds/songs to choose from.

You as his partner - of course, he will change it for you, but only under one condition: that you have the same one, so you can have matching ringtones. He thinks it's so romantic, but it just causes confusion when people call one or the other.

If there's a song that reminds him of you, he will literally send it to you and explain why.

Going back to my pop-lover Matt hc, usually these songs are famous pop songs with the most generic lyrics, so when he tells you the reasons why it reminds him of you, it's because "you’re amazing, just the way you are, just like the lyrics say, like it's so true, cuz you are really amazing just the way you are"

Just finished rewatching Death Note, and though it’s completely for my personal pleasure and I would doubt if anyone would read it from start to finish, it’s rant time! *spoilers alert*

First of all, woah. The second watch was truly an experience. Everyone is always talking about ‘I wish I could rewatch … for the first time again.’ and though I’d usually agree, I don’t for Death Note specifically. I don’t really understand why, but in my second watch had a way bigger impact on me than my first. Maybe because I watched it for the first time 4 years ago and I’ve grown now, with different opinions.

ONE THING THAT DIDN’T CHANGE IS MY DISLIKE TOWARDS LIGHT‼️

This being said, the ending where he tried to run away from the police, wounded, made me feel kind of sad for him. He wanted to do good, sure. But after all, anyone who uses bad to solve bad is as bad as the bad they’re trying to solve. Evil cannot be used to fight evil :P

I understand his point of view (somewhat) but I still dislike him. How are you going to watch this man commit genocide, lead his father to his death and feel no remorse, consider killing his sister to save himself (again, no remorse), lead on the angel that is Misa in a cruel way, kill L and Mello (their deaths are enough for me to dislike him but I needed to give more reasons :3) etc etc and still root for him?

Again, no shade to Light lovers. To each their own :P.

Moving on. When I first watched Dn, I was only attached to L. And so, seeing him get killed off and be replaced by Near sparked in me a deep hatred towards that boy. But maturing is realising that Near is the third best character in the show (Right after L and Mello) and that he’s a cutie pie.

And he’s also extremely smart. Correct me if I’m wrong but before L died, he mentionned that if something were to happen to Watari, that he’d erase all the data. That means that Near had none of the informations that L had collected during his investigation.

That also means that he was able to conduct those researches by

1. Not having Light around to examine his attitude or lock him up illegaly

2. No knowledge of what had happened before L’s death

3. He was nowhere near as experienced as L when it came to solving cases (I think…)

He still was able to arrive to the same conclusion as L though, as he mentioned, it wouldn’t have been possible without Mello :)

I also happened to think about Ryuk a lot more and I think he’s the funniest character. My guy dropped his notebook into the human world because he was bored and he landed on a boy who wanted to become God of the new world. And he just went along with it, giggling every now and then. We never truly got a glimpse of his internal monologue, so we don’t know if he agreed with Light or not.

One thing we know, though, is that he sure was amused…

Light is almost as funny. Think about it. If you got a notebook that could kill people, you’d probably get rid of it (I hope so) or AT LEAST ponder on what you would do with it, or if you’d even use it. If you’re a sane human being, your first instinct would be to ‘No way! I could never kill anyone!’.

But Light wasted no time. In only one episode he went from a privileged, smart man to an absolute deranged killer, and that’s hilarious. He didn’t even think about it twice. It’s like he just had a psychotic side to him that just had to wait for the perfect moment to be released.

Also, I knew Matt didn’t have much screen time. But when I rewatched it I noticed that he really DID NOT HAVE ANY! Like they barely add up to thrirty seconds and that sucks cuz he was so cool.

Speaking of cool, MELLO!

He’s so cool like everything about him, his hair his scar HIS STYLE, his aura EVERYTHING. AND I feel like we tend to forget that he is SMART! Like he is smart enough to have been considered a good successor to L and thats crazy to me. It’s sad we didn’t get to fully experience his smartness though.

Same goes for Near. Though it is stated somewhere (I don’t remember where) that he is a little bit smarter than L (but L has a lot more experience, something that cannot be overlooked), I feel like most of the conclusions he’s made appeared from thin air. Did I just not pay attention?

Because at least with L we could see his train of thoughts, his way of thinking and we understood why he came to all those conclusions and decisions.

But with Near it just feels…rushed. (or maybe I js didn’t pay attention…) Like wdym you found that out…It feels like he was more guessing than discovering. Kinda sucks bc he is allegedly smarter than L and I would’ve loved to see it more.

Anyway,

Okay listen, You'd have to be together for a long ass time before he even considered it. L has to be sure he can trust you and that you can handle him.

Proposing had never crossed his mind until Watari jokingly mentioned it, to be honest.

You know L's making plans because one day, he starts asking blunt questions on the matter. Until the night comes when he asks: "Would you like us to get married?"

And you're like, "Yeah? I mean, why not? We've been together for a while now."

That's it. I'm sorry. This man doesn't understand romance, but I personally would like to think he at least gave you the ring inside a slice of cake.

You and Watari took care of all the organization matters. L's contribution? Paying everything lol

The ceremony + Reception:

Oh My god, this is happening!

You agreed that it needed to be somewhere private, and you wanted it to be in a place familiar to him.

Am I about to say you married in Wammy's house? Yes, yes I am.

The kids (and your family) were told that L once was a part of the orphanage, and you wanted to marry there.

Mello knew who he was, however. And he couldn't believe his eyes.

Honeymoon

Doesn't last very long, sadly. This man is a workaholic.

But I see L arranging to have maximum privacy in a hotel next to the beach, where you both can enjoy each other and do multiple stimulating activities.

MELLO

I only see this happening in two ways: one, he addresses you as his wife, and no need for proposal.

Take may wife's name out of your fucking mouth lol no, just kidding

Two: he asks at the pure style of the mob. Fancy, luxury, and suddenly your reception is full of dangerous personalities.

Realistically, tho, I don't see him into the idea of marriage

The ceremony / reception

I think the ceremony would be short and not in a church, yet there might be some religious items there as decoration and symbolism.

The reception would be glamorous. Dark and elegant. Maybe a black and burgundy palette.

Honeymoon

IDK maybe Vegas? Something fun and exhilarating that keeps you both on thrill all the time!

Never thought about marriage until you jokingly call him your husband and damn, it felt good.

He's confident that you'll say yes. Yet he's terribly anxious when he asks.

Something small and private unless you wish otherwise.

Honeymoon

It doesn't last much, but it's worth every second. You'd have breakfast together and then create some pieces of art with the first sun rays of the morning, after which you share a shower.

Notes: plz I love writing death note hcs

Warnings: near-death situations, slight yandere themes

Characters involved: Light Yagami, L Lawliet, Near, Mello, Matt

Gender-neutral reader, you/yours

Light Yagami

Regardless of what happened to you, Light will presume this is because of people who are trying to hurt him through you.

Being Kira's s/o is obviously a dangerous position, and he heavily chastises himself for not thinking of his status impacting you before.

This is obviously not completely true, as what happened was a mere accident and had nothing to do with you being his partner.

If another person was involved in the accident then they will definitely be killed using the death note, this is non-negotiable and Light will probably hide their death from you.

He starts keeping a close eye on everything you do and will not let you go places without him for a while. Even after that Light often sends Ryuk to watch over you when he's executing his plans to ensure you don't get caught in it.

Overall, he takes this incident as a challenge to try and prove that he can be Kira and have a partner without it ending in a tragical romance.

L Lawliet

L definitely isn't as crazed Light but he is very cautious because of the incident.

He considers himself foolish for not thinking about such a thing happening before and does get very panicked at the thought of possibly losing you.

Unlike Light who's accustomed to caring for others, his family, and having important people in his life, L has never really had to worry about anyone except himself and Watari, which is why this incident sort of shocks him into realising you are now part of that list too.

He won't be overbearing physically, but he will insist upon having surveillance for some time or at least sending Watari with you.

If you protest then he pretends to understand and agree not to do it, but he still will survey you anyways.

L will get used to the idea of having to look out for you pretty easily, as he also considers the fact that in the future if your relationship ever goes public people might try to use you to get to him.

Overall, he probably seems like the calmest out of them all but he's really spiralling mentally and feels a need to constantly have you around after that.

Mello

The angry kind.

He probably yells at you after the incident and calls you an idiot, but it's really just his way of showing you he cares (that doesn't excuse the fact that he's being toxic).

He'll get overbearing but unlike the others, he doesn't give you a chance. Mello can and will force you into accepting his sudden surveillance and has the connections to ensure you are always watched by someone he trusts if he isn't available.

The two of you probably fight about it quite a bit and Mello starts yelling and has to force himself to understand the fact that just because he cares about you doesn't make this okay.

He's never really had to care about someone so much before, sure he has Matt but he's never cared to this extent, which is why Mello just gets very panicked and doesn't know what to do with himself.

With Mello, conversation is key in this situation.

If you fight fire with fire it might just result in things getting worse and him going Yandere.

Near

Blames himself.

To Near, it's all but insulting you were even put in such a situation. He thinks that it's his fault for not seeing this possibility before.

If he was there to witness the situation his guilt and decision to blame himself only gets worse to the point where he thinks he needs to take extra measures to make up for his previous shortcomings.

He wouldn't force surveillance on you or anything but he might get a little overbearing because he doesn't want you to go places without him or be out of his sight.

Unlike the others Near is open to an argument in fact he wants you to argue back, wants you to knock him out of his self-blaming spiral.

He isn't very familiar with human emotion and doesn't really know how to comprehend what he feels for you and how the thought of you feeling pain affects him so badly.

Just like Mello he just needs to understand this new feeling and how to cope with it healthily.

Matt

Matt is the calmest of them all, and unlike L he's not faking it.

Sure, he's scared shitless. If anything this incident just shows him how careful he needs to be about mixing you and his work since the possibility of you getting hurt is very real.

He doesn't want to risk losing you and isn't very happy about the fact that you could have been taken from him.

Normally, Matt isn't very physically affectionate but now he's holding you in his arms for hours on end convincing himself that nothing happened, that you're fine.

It would be cute if he didn't talk about keeping you with him and only him while you were in his arms.

Very yandere thoughts but unlike the others he doesn't do anything about it.

Well, he doesn't kidnap you. But he does set up a camera outside your house and a tracker in your car. Mello told him to do this before anyways (just in case you were a mole) so that's just more of a reason for Matt to keep an eye on you.

He doesn't tell you any of this, and you will probably never find out since Matt's good at what he does and know how to ensure his targets don't know they're being watched.

I'm drunk, and work is consuming my life, so I give you the Death Note tattoo AU no one asked for.

-L was a world-famous tattoo artist, but no one really knows what he looks like except his clients and disgruntled employees, but his work is well recognized. Moved to New York to open his own tattoo shop but he's kinda a mystery in the industry and he's one of those owners that doesn't really show up to his own business anymore he rarely tattoos and when he does its only things he wants to do. Will fuck off to Cambodia for a month or something and then randomly show up to collect money and sleep there for a week.

-L has only ever took two apprentices and they were Mello and Near. He took them on at the same time and it was a complete disaster. L refuses to take on an apprentice ever again

-Near specializes in sacred geometry, mandalas, and all that tedious crazy shit. Line work is impeccable. I feel like he'd be great at lettering and that fine line bullshit that everyone else hates. No one takes him seriously as an artist cause he looks like he's fucking twelve. He has amazing work but is absolutely horrible with clients due to his non existent social skills.

-Mello is the black and gray guy. He's one of those guys who just whips out a 23 mag and goes to town and bangs out a half sleeve in a few hours. I can see him doing crazy horror shit and those big crazy religious pieces like praying hands statues and all that good shit. He doesn't do color and doesn't like anything with a lot of linework. Looks scary but kinda a softie.

-Near is great at linework. Mello is great at shading. They compete and fight on a regular basis. They have an ongoing silent war stealing each other's supplies,clients, etc. (They're secretly in love tho, deal with it)

-Matt definitely the anime bruh I could see him doing some super colorful new school anime type shit he's a street shop kinda guy at heart tho hell do the dirty jobs no one else wants to do and he's FAST he can bang out your little infinity symbol butterfly feather clusterfuck matching finger tattoo with your 13 friends no problem. He wears goggles while tattooinglmaoaoa idk why, but he also gives me big piercer energy, lol

-I'm sorry but I can't leave out Linda. I feel like she's the color girl. Specializes in cover ups and botanical tattoos but shes well rounded and can take mostly anything that walks in. Probably the most organized artist out of all of them and keeps the shop from falling apart on a daily basis. I feel like L also trusts her to be the one to manage the shop while he's not there since the others are all completely unhinged, lol. Shop mom 100%

-Matt and Mello hit the bar at least once a week after work and talk shit till 4am

-B Specializes in trash polka fucking fight me on it.

-B and L apprenticed together and were working together when L opened his own shop but B kinda went down a dark path and him and L drifted apart and now have beef so B is the artist no one talks about (except Mello cause I feel B woulda played a big part in his apprenticeship)

-B also kinda legitimately tried to burn the whole shop down before he left soooooo...

-L has kept B's room open for years, hoping he gets his shit together one day and comes back.

(girl who was supposed to write 3k of vaguely serious pining tonight, or at least some weird smut) so about the furby au...

uhhh okay im gonna TRY to come up with some additional thoughts since i am going to the trouble of making this post. i guess one question is— does mello RESPOND to the emails??? probably. he loves to be mad about stuff and he hates not being heard when he's mad about stuff. so like. initially he's just replying to the emails from matt with “i hate that stupid fucking furby” and “how much money do i have to give you to set it on fire, or at least stop emailing me” but when matt points out that mello could just auto sort the emails to spam mello pretends as if he doesn't see that one. eventually, as mello's responses become marginally less hostile, matt is like 😌 it's time to up the ante. and begins including his Fun Near Facts. these include but are not limited to:

- he took college level differential equations when he was 14! 🤓 (mello response: okay, so he's a loser??)

- he's not a loser he's REALLY cool (note: matt loves to lie. or he actually has an unrealistically kind view of near's swag levels) (mello does not dignify this with a reply)

- he loves talking about math! don't worry though it's really easy to tune it out and he doesn't really care if you're not listening (mello response: i don't know why i would need to know that.)

- one time he saved me from drowning 😳 (note: matt also loves to embellish. near “saved him from drowning” by telling matt to not try his luck at jumping over a river, which wasn't actually even deep enough for him to drown in)

uuhhhhh okay running out of matt's fun facts about near BUT. the point is that he is wingmanning so hard. i guess another question is whether or not near picks up on the fact that matt is regularly taking candid photos of him? my thought is no. i could see near being sort of a space cadet in this respect tbh; if he's absorbed enough in something he tunes everything else out)

hmm. genuinely running out of steam so lemme just jot down a few more ideas and then someday maybe i will add more when more comes to me.

- near: lives in... actually, fuck it, NOT new york. he and matt room together in minneapolis. near is in a PhD program for math— either complex analysis or topography. idk. something. matt is a programmer of some kind bc i am not creative.

- mello: i think i already said but he lives in LA, works for the mob. probably isn't really that Into It but he got in when he was pretty young and it's not like he has a lot of other options at this point? i imagine it isn't something he spends a lot of time angsting over but he's probably kinda unfulfilled.

OH okay sorry i got an idea. these stupid emails from matt go on for a few months, with mello gradually responding in very slightly less mean ways & occasionally asking questions,,, and then one day the Daily Near Email comes through and it's a picture of near somewhere in LA. probably griffith's observatory actually. and matt (knowing full well from mello's social media that he lives in Los Angeles) captions the image something like “where did you say you lived again??? 🤔”

okay now i'm REALLY out of ideas. not sure how the fact that mello has barely Actually spoken to near would be resolved!! thanks for listening to the Morgan Being Deranged podcast, tune in next time for another incredibly niche stupid idea 🥰

Zimt, your AU has me in a chokehold and I love it so much. I'm really curious about Mello and Matt's time at Wammy's. What were their interactions with other students like? (Linda, Helix, other ocs, etc). I know you said Mello was quite hostile around other people (at least at first), and that Matt's sense of humor tended to go over people's heads/annoyed people, and now I'm just curious to see how things played out. It makes me laugh to think of Mello having beef with people other than Near, he was a menace.

Sidenote, this is a MelloMatt convo I'm 99% certain happened at Wammy's:

Matt: Do you think Roger and Watari ever explored each other's bodies?

Mello: It's 3AM. We have a test first thing in the morning. Please shut UP

Matt:

Unfortunately I'm not witty enough to write the clever jokes and schemes Matt and Mello annoyed people with at Wammy's :'D Feel free to give me ideas though, I love reading your little snippets!! (I'm super slow at drawing/writing atm but I keep taking notes from every ask!)

BUT! I imagine Mello having the same skill as BBC Sherlock: analyzing people from head to toe by just a single glance and then catching them off guard with information or assumptions he has no way of knowing. As a kid, he naturally lacks the life experience to do this as accurately as Sherlock, but the basics are there. This feels like a heavy invasion of privacy and people, especially his peers who might be geniuses but have the emotional maturity of kids, tell Mello to piss off whenever he does this. Mello, on the other hand, feels vindicated when he can accurately pinpoint information about someone through careful observation but he's so completely socially incompetent, he cannot understand why people feel attacked if he tells people their entire life story, what they had for breakfast and that they should see a doctor for their hemorrhoids, unprompted. He's right, after all, isn't he?? Why are people pissed?? And I think you can see why this spirals into Mello driving everybody away and everbody thinking Mello is the biggest arsehole.

You can enjoy whatever you want. I’m not saying you can’t like your fantasies or traditional dynamics but referring to one party as the female and one as the male in a relationship where both parties are male feels weird. It’s like straightwashing a gay relationship.

Regarding to my latest post I have received several mixed feedbacks, which I think are from 2 people only.

1/ To the second anon: I have a vague guess who you are and honestly I think all asks sent to me from the day I joined Tumblr have been always from you and I FUCKING LOVE YOU GIRL!!!! I made sure to answer all of your asks with care and effort!!! (all my drawings aren't just 5 min doodles. They took time)

2/ To the first anon: first thank you for reaching out to me not only once, but twice! Now I can safely say that there are at least 2 people actually reading my ghost blog (and it's kinda flattering to know!!!) however after your second reasoning I start to think there is a misunderstanding here!

Looks like anon is unhappy with my wording. I quoted my words ok: "I dead set Mello as the male in Meronia relationship so I've never imagined him as a female". And anon's words: "Referring to one party as the female and one as the male in a relationship where both parties are male feels weird. It’s like straightwashing a gay relationship".

Did I ever refer in my post that Near is the female in a gay relationship? It's simply your quick assumption. Fyi I ship Male!Mello with Male!Near, fem!Near, asexual!Near, non-binary!Near, trans!Near and I can even send you a list of fanfics/fanarts recommendation why I like these relationships and how they fit Near. The reason why Mello always stays as male in my mind is because social media fails to give me a good example on how Mello could be a female. I need to visualize everything before I like it yk. And there's no good enough fanarts of fem!Mello for me to picture her (as you can see I failed at delivering her drawing, most of her face was covered). On the other hand, lately there have been a few good fics about fem!Near plus I was sent a lot of amazing fem!Near fanarts so it's easier for me to draw her as I already have an example how she is. With fem!Matt, I took my own personal image to draw her because I find myself and her have a lot in common! All of these I stated clearly in my posts and I simply drew their appearances (I didn't discuss their roles in the relationship. And I know the correct terms in a gay relationship are "the top" and "the bottom", not "the male" and "the female" - and I used my words correctly). If you want to press more about their gay roles then my answer is that I have no problem with shipping Mello as "the top" or "the bottom" or a mix, as long as the writing is good.

Let's take more examples so we have a clearer look about this: I have 2 other ships Axel x Roxas (from Kingdom Hearts II) and USxUK (from Hetalia).

With Axel x Roxas: I dead-set both of them as males ok. Because again there are no fanfics and fanarts about their female versions that are up to my expectation (so the most I can do is draw them in crossdressing, not even a vague female image as Mello)

With USxUK: it's the opposite, both of them have a wide range of amazing female fanarts and fanfics so I have no problem picturing them as females in my head (and can draw them out easily)

So I am afraid there is no "straightwashing a gay relationship" here *shrugs* it's all about personal preferences and experiences with social media's materials!

I hope this makes sense and I don't wish to continue this further. It's getting too long and there is no point in replying back and forth between only 2 parties. Without any further outside opinion this is highly subjective imo!

Death note imagines: Confession/Relationship (pt. 2)

Mello:

Mello is hesitant to confess for several reasons. He has a raging inferiority complex and worries that he's not good enough for you, he also knows his life is incredibly dangerous and could get you killed very easily. On top of all of that, being in a relationship- being emotionally intimate- is weird and scary to him. He's not used to talking about his feelings. He's spent his entire life in flight or fight, survival mode, and doesn't really understand how to cope with or handle a healthy, normal situation.

He's used to fighting back, to fierce and never-ending competition because that's how he grew up. He's not used to relationships that are fair and balanced. It takes a lot of time for him to adjust.

He does eventually adjust and find ways to communicate. And once he does, the relationship becomes very intense and passionate. Mello loves hard, he wouldn't give you up for anything in the world once you're together.

Matt:

Matt tends to have a very relaxed, go with the flow attitude. This can sometimes work in his favor, and it particularly worked in his favor when it came to confessing to you. The minute he realized his feelings, he just... said it. It's not that he wasn't emotional when confessing, but he wasn't hesitant to do it like some of the other characters might be.

"Hey uh... I think I just realized something. I'm... in love with you?"

Your relationship, similarly, tends to be pretty laid back. There's not pressure to be the absolute most perfect partner.

Unfortunately this does have some drawbacks. While he does care about your relationship, he can sometimes come across as apathetic. He's definitely forgotten your birthday at least once.

Near:

Probably wouldn't confess to you. To be honest, he would most likely try to either ignore or argue against whatever feelings he's developed. If you confessed to him, he would be confused and somewhat flustered.

He would have a lot of the same concerns as the other characters over your safety when it comes to his line of work. The best case scenario is that you're someone who works with him, and he knows you can handle yourself if something dangerous does happen.

He's actually very sweet and gentle once you're actually in the relationship. He doesn't have a lot of time to spend with you, but he does his best to make up for it. If it's not a security concern, you're allowed to stay in the room while he works, he might even let you help with a puzzle or model that he's putting together. He likes having you around to bounce ideas off of.
