I finally set my last notebook to rest, so it’s time for a new one (Patreon)

Basically a stream-of-consciousness captured to page #For now I've got the latter two covered I'm currently vetting the slightly-more-focused lined notebook #It was from a bit ago and I was being silly at the time haha but the first one is from a new brand I'm testing out #It feels good! It's grippy but not in a scratchy way and it accepts graphite and pigment well #I haven't tested pen bleed yet tho that'll be next on my list #The second is an old standby - not my favourite but one that is very easy to acquire and I know what to expect of it #It's also the same as my free-for-all notebook but that's really neither here nor there lol - I'm not likely to mix them up #The only thing I've really noticed so far is the new brand takes a bit more cleaning because its margin line bleeds a bit more than normal #It's not bad but I can see it getting annoying - pros and cons #The second two are just normal sona thoughts #I miss my spider. I've looked out at where I buried them every day since but it feels more manageable #It feels more approachable like I'll be able to talk about it with the sellers when we're able to go to see them #I do hope they don't think less of me for it... #And then the last haha - my Vargas immunity is currently basically zero so any outside mention of them is overwhelming #I got about three lines into a fic and had to stop lol - I still really want to read it! An analysis of Ivan's life

Part 1

I've thought about doing this since I finished alnst. Reasons? I wanted to try to better understand what was going on in this man's head trying to base myself solely on official things. Also, this is all written under the assumption that events are shown to us chronologically, even tho I know that may not be correct. I'm just trying to see a different point of view. Without much ado:

From the beginning, when Ivan is adopted by an alien, he is taken to places without a collar, offering his absolute submission (because of his apparent apathy towards the situation) in exchange for not being abused. Compared to Till's life, his life was monotonous and not very eventful—after all, how could there be turmoil if the aliens seemed to adore him?

Truly like a tamed pet, he followed his owner wherever the latter wanted. Not only that, but he has a certain kind of affinity with the alien that Mizi and Till previously encountered. In short, even before performing on stage, Ivan already had everything he needed to be one of the most loved by the public, not to mention that his owner was a businessman, as Ivan himself admits in the interview.

However, Ivan was an unexpressive child who did not know how to show emotions, or, perhaps, because he lived in a world so different from how it should be, few things impressed him to the point of showing reactions. A tamed, loved dog that didn't cause any problems: perfect.

Despite the fact that Mizi, Sua and Till were his only colleagues, in the interview he states that he had many "friends", that is, people also liked him. However, the feeling didn't seem to be exactly reciprocal: they all seemed trivial to Ivan. Unlike them, these three friends he had, each one meant a different thing.

Starting with Sua, it has already been made clear to us that he identified with her to the point of thinking that they were the same. There could be several reasons for this, the same background, similar stories, but I will highlight what I think is most likely: apathy. Ivan comments on Sua's eyes as she looks at Mizi with such resentment that I can't help but think that's one of the biggest similarities between them. Dead, empty and hopeless eyes. That world is all they know, all they will ever know. Her succinct, reserved, and quiet personality reminded him of his own. That is, until he sees the way her eyes light up when she sees her goddess, her universe — her clematis. Suddenly, he once again became the only different child in that place and, as if that wasn't enough, Sua's goddess returned all that sparkle in her eyes in a way that the person he chose never did, would never do. Anger, frustration, confusion—envy. Something bitter, ugly and painful.

As for Sua's beloved, Ivan doesn't seem to have bad strong feelings for Mizi. No jealousy, no hate. All we see between them are friendly and kind interactions (in particular, Ivan reminds me of an older brother when it comes to MiziSua). Nothing as expected. He likely understands that it's not her fault that Till doesn't love him back. A curious fact in their relationship is that Mizi's blinding light doesn't seem to affect Ivan. While others cling to her like a beacon amid the darkness and water in the desert, Ivan is not affected.

7. after the other servants get possessed iori and saber asks how he was able to not be affected, and gil basically says he was built different lololol. a reference both to his divinity and how he's unable to be corrupted by grail mud

6. when he goes looking in another part of town with iori and saber he keeps wandering off by himself like a kid at the grocery store, only to criticize the other two for not keeping up with him

5. he's so cute with the local kids!! he knows them by name and spends time hanging out with them to the point where it becomes trouble to his business at times lmao

4. when you do his optional boss fight he dons a japanese version of his archer armor WHAT A WEEB. it looks so good tho!!!

3. HE SPENDS THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS MAKING PERFECT CANDY SCULPTURES OF HIMSELF!!!!! LOSER!!!!! HE'S SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT ONE!!!!!!

if u dont want my long ass rambling about Alastor, and some minor spoilers, dont look 😅 but he's my blorbo and therefore i'm studying him like a fucked up little bug (affectionate)

I see Alastor's character as a combination, mainly, of three main traits/motivations, plus one that i'm more guessing on but wouldnt surprise me:

1. he lacks empathy. this isn't a moral judgment, just a trait he displays

2. he seeks freedom above all else, but if asked, would rather admit to seeking power above all else. i believe his attempts to gain power are (consciously or not) a means to the end of freedom, not vice versa

3. he sorts people (demons, angels, whatever) into two categories: those he has control over, and those he doesnt. he is capable of respecting and forming relationships with only the latter category. not saying theyre healthy relationships, but they are often at least somewhat functional and prove lasting

the fourth (speculation) is that he hates himself lmao. which i think gets very intertwined with number 3. he's very self centered, that's just his view of the world(s). he has more respect for people who he has trouble controlling because he sees them as being in the same category as himself (as opposed to them being in the broader general category of a puppet audience beneath him). however he's not able to feel anything much deeper for them, because if his only lenses are "idiots" vs. "people like me", well. he has no respect for the former and no capability for love of the latter.

i think his inability to feel empathy or love leads him to have interesting motivations. freedom through power is perhaps the main one, as i mentioned. but when he first came to the hotel he stated his main goal was to be entertained. while he definitely had additional motives, i do think that was a true statement.

i think he's fascinated by Charlie because, well. she's the princess of hell. she should theoretically be one of the most powerful beings there. she *could* rule hell with an iron fist, if she wanted. but she doesnt. and i think Alastor wanted to see what that was about, i think it intrigued him.

right off the bat, she refuses to make a deal with him. that choice solidly places her in the "people he respects" category, by virtue of her keeping grasp on her own power and freedom. since that's Alastor's main goal for himself, it makes sense that he is drawn to others who manage to achieve it. if she'd taken a deal, the rest of the season wouldve gone way differently.

and probably, not as entertainingly.

one of the key parts of entertainment is that you don't quite know what's going to happen next. for a control freak like Alastor, that's hard to come by, unless he himself *is* the entertainment (which is a big part of his character). but he stated he came to the hotel to BE entertained. i see that as an admission that he didnt know what to expect from the hotel. which, coming from a powerful being, is quite a compliment- almost a statement that he believes in them.

i think Charlie challenges those fundamental categories that he puts people in. he can't sort her into either one. he can't control her, but she's nothing like himself. he knows she has something he doesn't. and unlike most other people, it's not something he can take from her to acquire for himself:

the ability to love.

the hotel didn't quite redeem him just yet: but i think it made him consider things he never had before.

i found it interesting that there was no big fuss about his return. they had to all assume he was either dead, or deserted them. he had to know that they would assume one or the other: and neither one looks good on him. yet he confidently just shows up again and falls right back into the group. whether he realizes it or not, he knows on some level that they will accept him back.

he might not be able to love himself, and he might not be able to love them- maybe not yet, or maybe even not ever. but some part of him knows that they love him. and accepts it enough to go back without shame.

some might read that as more of a strategic move to keep furthering his own ends. and actually tbh i think *he* only sees it as that.

but there *is* more to it than that. there *is* love there, and he's connected to it in some way, which is probably a first for him. and i think/hope that *thats* what will end up being the key to his freedom.

Sorry but am I the only one that thought that episode…sucked? Like it was straight up bad. Horrible pacing, no wrap up of all the random characters and plot lines they’ve thrown around all season (the tuskegee airmen, Westgates spying, literally all the guys beside like the main 4). (Seriously it makes me so mad that the three redtails got all of 5 seconds of screen time, almost no lines. Literally what was the point of introducing them other than to pretend the show was iNcLuSiVe) Even at the end of BoB and the Pacific you get a much better idea of what happened to all the remaining guys. In this they’re like what happened to DeMarco or Hambone or Brady or (insert character here) we don’t know! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The concentration camp scene felt shoehorned in compared to how it was done in BoB. Unless that actually happened to Rosie (which i haven’t heard anything about) but it was just like.. ok? It all felt so rushed and emotionless to me. Maybe I’ve just fallen out of love with MoTA but it’s been downhill for me since episode 6 or so.

i already made a little (read: long) post-finale write-up here, where i talk about the use of the tuskegee airmen, l'sandra, and overall editing/pacing issues i felt the show had. but i don't agree with the notion that adding the redtails was in any way insincere or trying to halfass being "iNcLuSiVe", i just think they suffer from this show's obvious time constraints. and to summarize what i wrote in my linked post, there's a limit to what white writers/directors/producers can do when creating a story about black people. there are some stories i'd feel uncomfortable with them telling on their own, truth be told. dee rees wasn't the sole nonwhite director, but she Was the only black one. i think she did her job well given the limitations and i appreciate that they let her direct those episodes, rather than leaving it up to a team of white people trying their best to tell a black story.

the worst i can say about the finale is that it didn't feel like That strong of finale, tho i wouldn't go as far to say it "sucked" or call it "straight up bad". i liked it plenty, it's just the weakest of the hbo war finales imo.

as for the concentration camp scene, artistic license was taken with both shows. unlike what's seen in the BoB, easy company wasn't the first to arrive at kaufering, and there's 0 mention of the all-japanese american 552nd who helped them liberate it). similarly, rosie rosenthal did assist in liberating those camps, though it would've been after the events shown this episode. idk if he saw one in that up-close way seen in this episode, but he could've (i should research this when i have time). plus, it would've felt weird Not having him acknowledge them at all. "shoe-horned" is an odd term to use here imo, as both scenes more-or-less center a jewish character (BoB's liebgott and MotA's rosie). the former show has survivors the characters can help, the latter shows no one left to help. the former has all of easy company there, the latter has rosie there all alone. rosie's scene felt deeply personal in that way. at the end of the day, both scenes are communicating different things. that doesn't make one better than the other when they aren't trying to be identical. (disclaimer, i'm not jewish, so i'd be interesting hearing from the perspective of someone who wrt whether or not they felt it was "shoe-horned")

i can understand if you've disliked the show post-episode 6 (and episode 6 was a very strong episode i'm ngl). eps 7 and 8 were weaker in many ways, even to me, so i get it. everyone's entitled to their own opinion (i'd be a hypocrite saying otherwise). just understand that this blog is run by someone who overall enjoys this show despite its flaws! basically, i encourage you to take this energy and make your own posts.

once we came back from casa theo began having a really obvious crush on my MC (don't get me wrong, i think he's gorgeous. i just avoid him specifically because the overlap of his & claudia's routes) and i know some people have complained about claudia flirting with them in casa amor on a straight theo route. i don't know if this is intentional, or if this is just the game falling apart. knowing FB it's probably the latter

Im really late to the party, so someone might have mentioned this already and I just didn't see it. It isnt a theory in and of itself, just a little tidbit, but I keep turning it over in my head anyway.

Leander is chalk full of so much symbolism already, but he is presented as the (most?) human monster of the LIs. He is also the only character with green eyes, which feature in his monster silhouette. A literal reference to "the green eyed monster" that is envy.

Like i said, just a tidbit, but I wonder and wonder and wonder how that ties into the way his character is written.

Does anyone else just look things up while having casual thoughts? I went to wikipedia to look up envy just for funsies and then realized maybe my thoughts arent so casual anymore lol.

It was interesting to read about healthy envy vs unhealthy envy. The Dutch apparently have two explicitly different words for these concepts, which is cool. Essentially the former is envy that inspires a person to be or do better when faced with someone else's good fortune. The latter describes negative self-comparisons and desire to punish others for their good fortune. Also; "As children get older they develop stronger non-materialistic envy such as romantic relationships, physical appearance, achievement, and popularity."

The writers obviously didnt skimp on Leanders good looks, but it will he pretty cool to see how they play with the other three. Someone else already wrote the coolest analysis of Ais vs Leander and Leanders need to impress/appease others. I dont have it on hand because Im on mobile, but I also wont try to rehash it because Im far less articulate. I do think, however, that that desire to appease everyone at all times probably stems from a desire to be popular.

For all that he appears to be competent and well liked, consciously or subconsciously it seems like he might be making up for some kind of negative self comparison somewhere. Why tho?

Kaname was like a lost child when HW found him and took him in her care and gave him a name. She's like a mother to him. Hino had mentioned his feelings for her were maternal.

Kaname's heart belongs to Yuuki, literally lol.

Either he might succeed in his endeavour to revive yuuki and they will be together as humans.

I believe Hino said it was parental but because she had them kiss in that panel then now people think she’s his true love 🙄 Because of one panel. Even if he did love her romantically that wasn’t really the point of why he met her and that doesn’t mean she is his true love which is seen by how he has no recollection of her at all in vkm. HW was part of his past as a pureblood ancestor vampire. She was almost like a ghost holding him back even tho she did help him at one point.

Now in vkm he is a new man free from the burdens of his past which is how he can be happy. But even so, his love for Yuuki is literally engraved in his soul! It’s a part of him. Which means the HW wasn’t for him. She was merely an event in his past. (Not hating on the ship) A big part of what makes Kaname who he is is his love for Yuuki. It’s so strong it could never be wiped out no matter how much haters wanted it. I read a good story that kind of alludes to this theme. I’ll find the quotes later

From what we saw in the original series is when Kaname wants something he goes after it and gets it. Based on that pattern, that’s what should happen in vkm. Hino laid the foundations. However it’s hard to know if she truly remembers or cares who Kaname really is. Cuz look at what she chooses to make chapters on 😂But that is one thing that is still possible. It ain’t over till it’s over

Logically based on how Hino is writing vkm, the latter will most likely happen. Kaname will not reunite with HW or find another woman cuz Hino made that clear already that his mind is only on Yuuki. He’s probably gonna stay single and love her all his life until he gets to reunite with her in heaven or something. I think for sure they will at least have one final conversation. But yea Hino made it pretty clear as a human he is a one love kind of guy for Yuuki 😂

Plus like. Yume was a big part of this story. It is a central part of the original series and that’s the series we all care about tbh. The story literally begins with Kaname saving Yuuki and Yuuki saying he brought all the colors to her world. Hino spent the whole manga developing Kaname and Yuuki. Why would she just have him end up with HW who took up two pages or a random woman in vkm? Lol. Goes against storytelling and what Hino has told us is important. She has three characters here and two central relationships in the story. In regards to Kaname, his relationship is with Yuuki.

I still cannot get over how so many restaurants in 2024 don't have milk alternatives. apparently around 68% of adults are lactose intolerant. that's the MAJORITY!!! most adults cannot process milk, but all you have for my diner coffee is dairy?? ok maybe most people don't get as sick as I do. I've voluntarily cut quite a lot of dairy from my diet and do not drink straight milk or eat ice cream anymore because it will put me in that much pain, but the majority of adults experience some form of discomfort and you have no alternative for us?? NADA?? how is this acceptable??

I'm so glad we're not longer in the 2014 making-fun-of-people-who-get-starbucks-with-milk-alternatives era, but I feel like the effect of that era still hasn't worn off, because I am genuinely more concerned about my request for a milk alternative in my coffee to be ignored than my request to keep my food away from tree nuts at restaurants, even tho the former will just make me sick and the latter will potentially send me to the hospital/kill me. Like at a coffee place I triple check that my order was made with almond milk when they hand it to me, versus at a restaurant I never feel the need to ask the server if my food was kept away from nuts when it's served to me. It's probably because people know nut allergies are serious that I feel safer, versus the fact that society doesn't take lactose intolerance seriously in any way.

also, and I am the wrong person to talk about this but I feel like I can't bring up the lack of accommodation for people with lactose intolerance without mentioning it... is this racist? google tells me only ~20% of white adults are lactose intolerant, while like 70-90% of adult people of color are. it also makes me wonder about the fact that the image in the public consciousness of the 2014 era people-who-get-milk-alternatives-from-starbucks-to-be-trendy/frivolous is a 15-25yo white girl/woman. anyways like I said I am not the right person to be leading this discussion but I just felt like I couldn't ignore it.

anyways in conclusion if you're an establishment that serves milk get at least 1 fucking alternative, and preferably get the main three so people can have options (for some reason oat milk also makes me sick, so if the only alternative is oat milk I'm still kinda fucked, and my preference is almond. I'm sure other people have preferences for soy or oat of course so I think all 3 should be available for the 70% OF US WHO CANNOT DIGEST MILK!!!).

Hello!! I love love love your arts. I feel like a lot of them have a sense of 'movement' which contrasts a lot of very polished artworks.

I love works with meticulously planned composition, layers, highlights, etc. I love works with a certain kind of loose yet purposeful application of value and colors. (The Two Cakes thing in the fandom). And I noticed that your arts belong to the latter category which I can rarely find!

If you don't mind me asking, do you have any artists or artworks that you're heavily inspired from? Do you draw on a pen-tablet, IPad, or other media? What application are you using? Heard a lot of shitty comments about quality of genius tablets at that time, but even more only about Wacom in recent years i think (fuck them. Wtf with pen's tips that are constanty erasing. For who this product is made for. Ew). as for the apps, i use clip paint studio, for studies - heavypaint (great thing). There are AMAZING artists on tumblr who inspire me heavily with their works. like. i follow ~400 ppl here. because i like to stare at art. so. im gonna talk about my favorites! @crowthis - king. queen. i dont know the pronounces sorry. they draw magnificent things i love their style SO much, its such an inspiration. sometimes i just visit their blog to go through art tag and experience all that beauty. (half of their wrks i have downloaded on my desktop) It's loose, quite 'chaotic', but SO atmospheric. The mood, composition, texture, everything. Themes. I like black and white drawings as much as the ones with colours, it so bright and blatant\bold in a way, but it works perfectly, it gives your the right sense of the work. Even tho usually i prefer more calm colours, it makes me go 'wow!' And their works looks really simple and intuitive but as an artist you know that haha no its fcking hard to do things like that. it takes skill and knowledge. loose work is tricky

@frozensoba - idk how much time i could stare at their recent fish drawings like jesus christ. i wish i could do that. i want to be able to do that. my ass is ready to work every time i see it and drawings like these really inspire me to draw simple things and non-humans bc i feel like you can draw beautifully everything that exists. you just need to know how. Colours, texture, rhytm, lines... everything on its place. I love colours especially. Its very gentle kind of harmony going on there, and the palette is huge, intricate.

I have his comic books on my bookshelf. I open it everytime i want to get energy to draw. You cant look at his drawings and NOT to get inspired. He's incredible. The rhytm, the shapes... damn. i can look at his drawings for hours. And he was the main inspiration to work with lines and composition more, to play with it more. I dont have a lot of line-work on this acc (last quiobi drawing, some year\two-old dghda drawings, eugene one) but i actually exercise it a lot. Lines are extremely powerful tool. And as for composition... The shapes, negative spaces, love it. And he's extremely good at working with colour too.

Francis Vallejo - he's illustrations are so good... he's incredible with composition and rhytm his drawings have. Negative spaces, one again.

Anders Zorn - i adore his black and white graphic drawings. Angles, framing, line work. Spent a lot of time looking at his works. Cant get enough of it. The way he draws people, the plot, themes. What he chooses to portray, the way people look, what they do. There is such a special mood to his drawings, there is something extremely psychological about it, isn't there? he's a master im mesmerized by

Bernie Fuchs - composition, rhytm, once again. I love it when you want to look at something for more then 2 seconds, because the rhytm of the drawings leads you into different places and opens its plot in parts. No matter where you look u'll find something interesting and even though there is lot of going on its still not a mess and looks and feels fucking awesome. And i love his colour palettes too. He's very good at setting the mood (check out his less commercial works)

As for the colour here's a few i love. (Though they're still extremely good with everything else)

Hovsep Pushman - the man is a mystery. His work with colours, light and texture is beyond me. Also it has disco elysium vibe to it. I dream of being capable of something like this when im sixty or so (im not gonna be)

Mead Schaeffer - simple but powerful. Looking at his works like eating a tasty ice cream.

same goes to Dean Cornwell - though its a bit more complex, his composing. You need to pay more attention

So right after the first episode of HOTD came out, I’ve created this baratheon oc and didn’t really written the entire story because episodes were only once a week at the time- which means I eventually lost the inspiration to continue writing for it while waiting. I just wondered if this may have some unsettling impact between daemon’s and baelon iis relationship…

Vevienne Baratheon, the only daughter of Boremund Baratheon, was frail, kind, and gentle yet she grew up to be one of the greatest beauties in Westeros despite her at height (imagine nearly 6ft) with thick and wavy black hair that reached to her waist, brown eyes, and she resembles her aunt, Jocelyn Baratheon— loved by others and her family. She was close friends with Rhaenyra and Alicent back then before Daemon came into the picture…

Daemon was obsessed with her since they’ve met. She was fifteen at the time, slightly older than Rhaenyra and Alicent as well. He always asked for her favour at tourneys (he would’ve took the favour from the other knight after taking him down if she didn’t have it to him), crowning her as queen of love and beauty which did nothing but annoyed her in the end. She was already promised to another, but Daemon may have or not… sullied her three years after the stepstones war. She was eighteen when that happened. It wasn’t even consensual and yet she was forcibly married to him after the death of Rhea Royce (rip queen).

The Baratheons and everyone else. So it didn’t even passed a year before she gotten pregnant, freaked the shit out everybody (especially daemon) since she was frail, and her pregnancy was terrible than they expected. She’ve given birth to triplets on a stormy night and unfortunately died. Two girls and one boy; one stillborn girl tho. Marleina, (Vevienne mentioned that she always wanted a daughter named Marleina and Daemon was just like “anything you want.”) the black haired and purple eyed baby girl he solely wanted with Vevienne, Rhaelle, his tiny silver haired girl with dragon features who died at her first breath, and Daerion… he immediately despised the poor boy (dark hair and brown eyes) at the moment he came out last. He mourned his Vevienne and Rhaelle, but goes to abandon his son at Storm’s End. Boremund demanded that he leaves Marleina with them if he’s gonna abandon his own son like that. “What son? You mean the monster who killed my beloved wife?” The last thing he said before storming out of there, not before kissing the top of marleina’s forehead farewell and mumbling that he’ll come back for her someday when the time is right.

How would Baelon II view Vevienne and his two younger half siblings? Sure his father may have remarried to Laena and Rhaenyra sometime in the future, but Daemon always reminded the latter that he will love Vevienne and only married her out of duty just to help her against the greens. That’s some twisted loyalty he has for Vevienne right there.

Baelon ii would have insisted on being involved with them. He doesn't care about daemon but those are his siblings. He'd basically be the best big brother ever.

After some amount of thinking, these are the characters or factions that I think would work best for IS seasons or future manhwa— the latter to the latter and the former to be former, as multiple characters can better support a manhwa while single characters work better as motifs

Mr. Lee's Detective Agency — i think the Detective Agency would work really well as a serialized story. mostly episodic mysteries plus an overarching story seems like a great setup for a self-contained story in the world of Arknights

Op Reserve A6 — similarly to the A1 manhwa, this is a group who meaningfully lack screentime, yet have become fan favorites due to their low star ubiquity. this could play very similarly to the A1 manhwa, showing how the characters got started together and came to be at RI together

Op A4 — this would be a bit different. while the 3* ops are mostly new recruits and trainees, the 2*s are older ops with more experience. thus, a manhwa showing their past exploits would be really interesting, both as a means of exploring these underutilized characters and to show the world that's existed around them

ABC gang — Siracusa's gangs are their own whole big thing capable of carrying one or more big events on their own, but with the ABC gang, i think the three of them would have a small and personal enough narrative that i think it would work as a manhwa rather than an event or an oprec. once again, show their history, show how they met, etc

Penguin Logistics — for how overexposed people claim they are to Penguin Logistics, they have remarkably little lore. a single event, some oprecs, and a second event which focuses on a couple characters from the group. the reason why i think PL would work well for a manhwa is they in general, they're too goofy for the main game. Arknights can play itself for comedy sometimes, but it's never as silly and over the top as PL's baseline, which is why a lot of people dislike Arknights' best event, Code of Brawl. so give them a manhwa instead and let the company be sequestered to their own little space. they could use more screentime, tho, as outside of their one event, Penguin Logistics characters haven't gotten screentime as Penguin Logistics characters— whenever Mostima and Exusiai are relevant, it's to Lateranian stuff, Croissant showed up in the Gavial event on her own, and Texas and Sora both lack much screentime at all. this would be a good opportunity to shine light on the group dynamics

IS season

for IS seasons, i think an important factor is that the character not lend themself to simple straightforward stories, as IS is an opportunity to explore more alinear and less direct characters

Deepcolor — Deepcolor is inexplicable. she's one of the few launch characters to still lack anything, be it story appearances, an oprec, or even a skin. the holes in her backstory can be filled in with other Aegir lore that's come out, but she still needs more. for IS in particular, I think painting as a motif would make for a good topic, like Gothic opera music does for Crimson Solitaire. only strike against this is that it seems Mizuki is about to get an IS, but this could happen a while later to not be too fishy

Iris — Iris and Bena and whatever the fuck else is happening in their castle in Victoria would make a great setting for an IS. there's some vague stuff about what's going on there, but from what we know, a dreamlike Alice in Wonderland aesthetic would fit the abstract nature of IS

Surtr — an IS delving through Surtr's fragmented memories would make for a very abstract setting, but would also give Surtr much needed lore, as like with Deepcolor, she's quite lacking, with the holes being made up for elsewhere, which ultimately only leads to speculation

Conviction — Arknights takes itself serious, as previously mentioned, but IS would be a good home for Mx. Conviction the April Fool's character. it's a place for sillier stories that don't necessarily need to be canon, so if it ever gets too weird, they can just write it off

just some idle thoughts! i think all of these should happen, personally

you seem to like it so I’m gonna ask you, what is up with Persona 5 and jazz memes? why does it piss bros off so bad lol

in a sense it’s just standard gatekeeping stuff, but I’ll make an argument for it. Jazz has a kind of unique status in the 20th century as being a genre of music that’s simultaneously popular music and art music, though from about the mid 50’s on it starts to move more towards the latter while still having a relevance to the former. In the late 50’s there was this show called Peter Gunn that you definitely know the theme music for: the soundtrack for it, explicitly jazz, was a kind of gateway for a lot of people to look into the genre as a whole. When I was a kid and I think still today the score for Cowboy Bebop did the same thing. Persona 5 is less distinctly ‘jazz’ than either of those, but it has a distinctly ‘jazzy’ feeling in that kind of post-nujabes way that seems to get a lot of people interested (tho I think often in later forms, like jazz fusion or jazz hip hop or acid jazz. Whatever, jazz)

So all three are great, right? In my opinion, anyway. On the one hand what makes them ‘gateways’ are that they’re associated with other media that renders connecting to the music easier. On the other hand, the fact that they’re primarily *scores* means that from the perspective of the genre they’re very direct—-the medium of scoring means that you have about a second to set the mood, which means the stuff is generally “simpler” from the perspective of the music that is made to be primarily music: primarily textural, immediately melodic, short, immediate constant hooks. In truth it’s a different form, it wouldn’t be as successful if it wasn’t like that—-but it is what it is.

anyway what winds up happening of course is that as people get into the genre they get very defensive and argumentative for what got them into it, and so for every person saying ‘that’s not even real music’ you’ll have 3 or 4 people saying that it’s actually a masterpiece of the form, perhaps superior to the standard material of the form they might not have down yet (no joke: there’s a famous review of Coltrane’s Giant Steps where the reviewer explicitly says that the Peter Gunn soundtrack is superior on every level for all the above qualities mentioned: at least people like listening to it, only the pretentious could possibly prefer Coltrane or Bird, this is old stuff)

essentially standard fandom stuff, except it’s with music so people get particularly weird about it. Don’t sweat it. Like what you like and keep and open mind, keep in mind different things have different goals, don’t pay too much attention to memes

What is your opinion of caleb wittebane and evenly clawthore? Do you think they parallel lunter very well?

Yeah! I've mentioned it before but I think that, while there seems to be Caleb and Philip parallels being written in now, The one that was originally (and still currently) the most prominent to me is Caleb and Evelyn.

The latter makes more sense to me because while Hunter lived the same cyclic hell as the other grimwalkers who were then killed by Belos like Caleb, Luz doesn't... have many narrative similarities to Belos? at least none that I can think of off the top of my head.

I'd thought so, early on, thinking both were people who sought a fantastical world, but that wasn't it at all, so it doesn't really make sense to me that people try to place her alongside Belos.

She has many similarities to Caleb, tho! From leaving her world to go the demon realm, getting together with a witch, and the visual framing of her holding possessed!Hunter in the recent ep which resembles the memory of Caleb hugging Philip etc.

Though, granted, I get it. Because who else is gonna fill the role? Hunter and Luz are arguably the most tangled up within the plot of the other three, so I'm not surprised that they're shuffled around to symbolize Philip, Caleb, and Evelyn depending on the scene. I only wish this was a bit more consistent in the writing.

Oh, I've seen possessed!Hunter get referred to as helos and more hilariously, Bunter.

And that's an interesting scenario.... I think if Belos had made Hunter hurt Luz seriously in any way, it would've been a similar reaction as when Flapjack was injured, where Hunter momentarily snaps out of it, trying to reel himself in or get away before he could hurt anyone else. Everyone would be alarmed and try to get Luz to a hospital, but while that was happening Hunter would be trying to drown himself and considering how Camila would be too focused on her daughter to save Hunter, yeah, that would've been awful. Bad ending.

I must say, tho... I was mulling over this wondering "Why didn't Belos hurt her like w Flapjack? It woulda been easier than to chuck her off him, surely." that's when I realized he probably doesn't want to.

It's no secret how creepy Belos is, how he has this one-sided allyship with Luz; he keeps acting like they're friends, like he's doing what's best for her, etc. I don't think he wants her to be injured or dead, he wants to "save her soul" much like with Caleb. In his mind, he thinks she's gone astray and it's his responsibility to be her savior, so he must keep her out of his way but alive.

Jeia and Gwikki?

For jeia, I’d go the childhood crush to lovers trope and whenever their families visit, they’d always be all ‘lalala’ over each other. But things won’t really make a dramatic change till the summer of ‘95. Jay’s crush on Leia would still be present but similar to canon, for a bit, it’d be played off as Jay being a playboy. Their interactions in ‘Lip Smackers’ and ‘The Rave’ would still be the same but Leia actually had kissed someone before so there won’t be that whole ‘Leia getting her first kiss at the mall plot’. And I mean, you know what happens in the next three episodes for them. Still the same. In Dirty Double Booker, they would both confide in each other about their problems (Jay trying to get Brooke to get a dog, Leia and her thing with Gwen). Their plot in the finale would still be the same but Betsy would be the one to give Jay a pep talk. By season 2, it’s pretty obvious that Jay would be the one Leia wants to be with but at the same time, things were so overwhelming so she decided not to be with either of them. They do start talking again after and there won’t be too much angst. Jay would tel her about Nikki right away. Leia won’t be pleased but at the same is like ‘he can sleep with whoever he wants’. They do keep hanging out and talking but don’t get back together till Labor Day weekend. Right before Leia leaves, she tells Jay that now she can come every time she has a break, which’ll make their relationship a bit easier. Eventually they do have their first time during their fall break and would still be video chatting. And they say they love each other on Christmas! They’d visit each other over the holidays and attend each other’s graduations. After, they’d attend college together, so no long distance, thankfully 😅. In their first year, they would get pregnant (ik that’s not the best timing but I love my kids!). Jay would be very supportive and loving throughout the pregnancy and they’d eventually give birth to some adorable triplets and get married in 2000 with Gwen and Nikki.

Now for Gwikki! I’d have some hints in the pilot, like Gwen talking about how gorgeous Nikki is and they would have a little moment during the Rave. The scenes in Step by Step will still be there but after the baby shower, they’d actually end up keeping up the friendship but in secret. There’d be feelings developing but Nikki would try to ignore them since she’s with her brother and Gwen would also deny them. Ozzie would find out though and she’d open up to him about her feelings. Gwen and Nikki would be having a lot of moments together with them hanging out in secret (they’d be bad at keeping it a secret tho lol). Slowly it wouldn’t be one and they wouldn’t even try to hide it anymore. I may have them mention each other in Dirty Double Booker while still having separate plots. Gwen would still catch Nate and Leia but she’d be like ‘Leia, you have to tel her.’ That would lead to Gwen telling Leia about her feelings for Nikki. Nikki would notice Nate’s strange behavior and talk to Gwen, who be rattled with guilt. There’s be several moments when she does almost tell Nikki. Nikki would still find out and then dump Nate. Like I said, she obviously ends up having revenge sex with Jay. Gwen would get kinda jealous and upset about the hookup. She’d vent to Leia and Betsy would hear them. Both girls would advise Gwen to just tell Nikki. She’d then go to Nikki’s house and begins to explain but since the latter is still hurt, she tries to push Gwen away, leading to fight. There’d be this moment where Nikki almost confesses but back tracks at first. Gwen would encourage her and then you know what happens. After that, they’d go on their first real date (second date) at the arcade. They decide to tell their friends but they overhear Jackie and Hyde talking about the beginning of their relationship, making them be scared. The only ones in the group that would know are Leia and Ozzie. Everyone else just catches them. And I already explained the Nate part. Despite that, they’re still able to just be happy. They’d have a lot of cute background moments and pda similar to Zenmasters. There would be several scenes with them supporting each other. They may have a few fights here and there but would work it out. They’d end up going to the same college but due to the amount of work they have, things get a little rough and they break up. It’s hard on both of them and they definitely miss each other but don’t really do anything. There would be a lot of times (especially at parties) where they’d just hookup and attempt to do a no strings thing because they miss each other and feel that’s the best way to be together. Everyone knows that they still love each other tho and think they’re being dumbasses. One day, they do tell each other their true feelings but Nikki leaves because she thinks that Gwen deserves better. Gwen would be really hurt by this and cry. The day after, they’d just have it out.
