#my grandfather was a family man #he did a lot of nice things for us his kids and grandkids #i think he mightve been an atheist but he LOVED holidays because he loved the way they brought family together #one year for christmas i was kind of a little shit and DIDNT ask for the teddy bear I wanted #you know existential santa problems #when I was disappointed om christmas day he asked me why #next year there was a teddy bear and it was (and is) my favourite #He also built me a little play house with the door just how I wanted and let me pick the color #i was actually angry that my grandmother painted it pink for my cousins just because her name was valentine #that girl is never gonna escape the color pink i hope she doesnt come to hate it #ofc ive no use for the play house anymore and if id been asked I would have said yes but just to discover it out of the blue was hard #i never got to know my grandfather as an adult so to lose some of that childhood connection was #well it was okay of course but grief never really leaves #ill take it back when my grandmother passes and make it pink and blue for both of them

"Late-diagnosed autistic" is a useful term for describing the experience of not being able to figure out/articulate your needs or access the autistic community

But way too often, it's used to mean "always neurotypical passing" or "autistic person who never interacted with special education" or "autistic person who never interacted with medical institutions in relation to their autistic traits"

Which ignores the fact that "late-diagnosed autistic" includes people who never got a specific diagnosis, but were recognised by doctors/schools to have something going on, and people who were diagnosed with specific learning difficulties, intellectual/learning disabilities, and/or other developmental disabilities, but not specifically "autism" until adulthood

#also medical neglect as others have mentioned #my mothers solution to every problem was pretend it doesnt exist #or to call me ~over dramatic~ #even having illness diagnoses didnt really make anything easier when i was sick as a kid #nevermind that i tested high for adhd on those 'take this and think about seeking professional help' quizes #and they were just like hmmm well that sucks! have fun dealing with that! #and being in the 'im rather angry' stage of pts recovery isnt helping either #because im shouldnt have feelings about how people treat me! #bites you bites you bites you bites you

similar to that post i made about tboys: shoutout to genderfluid androgynes/or anyone who is male and female at various times who can't "shapeshift." there's people out there who only give us respect (or talk about us at all) when there's someone who can pass as Masc Cis Guy or Fem Cis Girl. but not everyone is doing all that. i don't shave my face or my body; when i'm fem, i'm a hairy fem who sounds like a guy. when i'm masc, i'm a short masc with obvious tits and ass. some people present the same all the time regardless of how their gender shifts!

we deserve respect when our gender isn't being treated like a party trick to entertain cis people. we deserve respect when we look visibly trans & genderqueer. i am not spending my spoons on that bullshit
