I used to be americanapurana, then naranappa, uh…basavana, arunagirinathar, sigalaka then sivavakkiyar. He/Him. Born in 92. Tamil American. Marxist. Bi. Against the framework of Hinduism (you could say ex-Hindu, so guess) fundamentally. From an Iyer family. I'm still interested in a nāstika Shaivsm, but am primarily Buddhist (again, not Hindu). Congratulations to our semifinalists! We'll be accepting post propaganda for these four until May 3rd. As a reminder, Prince has very little propaganda on his post and Jimi Hendrix has none.
in fact it’s technically ahistorical to even call Hayakawa ‘Asian American’—-that term only exists precisely because he lost that specific battle. unfortunately ‘we’ve always been here’ means a lot of things
I'm speechless but I'm so happy that's young people in all the world are with us whats happening in usa universities is powerful i never thought this going to happen I'm so happy guys of this support.
What is happening means that us around all the world humans love each other but the governments don't want that.
you know the President of San Francisco State at the time of the 1968 TWLF protests against Vietnam and for Ethnic Studies departments was also Asian American—-a conservative, SI Hayakawa. In a lot of ways the contemporary presence of diversity in these places isn’t really *new* at all, even in government
When the rest of the world looks at the united states right now, we see a government who sends billions to support genocide but cannot help their own people starving on the streets.
We see a police force who won't go in to save children from school shootings, but deploy at a rapid rate to arrest peaceful protestors using their right to free speech to protest a genocide
America, you are a war mongering snake eating your own tail. You will protect and support war criminals in another country but let your own people starve and die
To the students bravely protesting now, we see your strength. We see what we saw when students protested the Vietnam War. We have faith you will prevail
Here’s what you’re not being told: The most pressing threats to our safety as Jewish students do not come from tents on campus. Instead, they come from the Columbia administration inviting police onto campus, certain faculty members, and third-party organizations that dox undergraduates. Frankly, I regret the fact that writing to confirm the safety of Jewish Ivy League students feels justified in the first place. I have not seen many pundits hand-wringing over the safety of my Palestinian colleagues mourning the deaths of family members, or the destruction of Gaza’s cherished universities.
