Scary movie update!
I forgot to mention I tried to watch the new sequel to Hell House, LLC (a movie I liked quite a bit), Hell House, LLC II: Abbadon Hotel. When I was about ten minutes in and it was still doing a probably unnecessary exposition info-dump about the lore established in the first movie, I was bored and felt pretty sure the movie was not going to be worth watching. so I didn't.
Today I watched the new not-that-great documentary about noted psychopath, Russ McKamey, The Monster Inside. In case you are lucky enough not to know of him, he's a guy who runs what started out as an "extreme haunt"(-ed house), and which devolved into a weekend of torture people sign 40-page waivers and pay a bunch of money to endure. Literal torture. And of course he films everything up close for YouTube. And of course most of the people he "accepts" for this nightmare are cute young women. There was an "extreme haunt" documentary featuring McKamey Manor about ten years ago which was so distressing to watch I still feel sick when I think about it. I was looking forward to a thorough exploration of this guy's. . .madness. . .and was excited that this doc includes three people who went through McKamey Manor, McKamey's former friend who also worked for him at the Manor, and experts on torture, PTSD, and extreme sensation/experience-seeking. The documentary adds up to not much, McKamey has suffered backlash but still runs the McKamey Manor experience to this day, and even the people featured in the documentary don't seem entirely unhappy about what they endured.
My main question--who wrote this waiver, and could it possibly be legal to not only consent to be tortured, but to waive rights to sue or prosecute?--was never answered. I can't imagine a lawyer wrote that waiver. I do feel like it's only a matter of time before someone dies during one of these experiences.
Anyway, overall interesting, but nothing really new there.
To cleanse the palate with an actual horror movie, I watched The Hole in The Ground, in which a young mother becomes convinced her son is an imposter. Twisty, creepy, keeps you guessing, cool monster reveal. The actual hole in the ground? Is itself very scary. Definitely recommend, especially if you like a gentler horror film experience. A24 does it again!

Eddie, reading a question in the chat of his live-stream: Which member of the party was the mom friend? Oh, easy. It was Steve.
Steve: …uh, no. Wrong. I was not friends with any of you dorks.
Eddie: Then why were you always around?
Steve: I was a hostage.
Steve: If anyone was the mom friend, it was Nancy.
Eddie: No, Nancy is the friend you take with you if you’re trying to uncover a government conspiracy
Steve: Yeah, just like a mom. If the mom you’re talking about is Joyce Byers.

Bruce: Kent, so nice of you to swing by our campsite.
Clark: Mr Wayne.
Bruce: Are you a lumberjack? Cause I need your help with this wood.
Clark: Yes I am Mr Wayne, that’s why I’m here to apply for the job. I’m very good at handling wood. My previous employer said that I was a hard worker.
Bruce: Hmm, so you’re a hard worker, but are you fast?
Clark: I go hard and fast. Got no complaints about my performance so far.
Bruce: Looks like you’re a cut above the rest.
Clark: So do I get the job?
Bruce: Sure, here’s the axe. The ground seems pretty uneven here. Watch your step, or you’ll fall head over heels.
Clark: Too late, Mr Wayne, I’ve already fallen-
Tim: You’re both such a pain in the trunk. Are we going to cut down this damn tree or what?
