OMG I just watched the DoBS pt 2 of S3 in ATLA.
I'm very late and have skipped stuff whuch I should go back to...
BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF I HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH META ABOUT ?!
My boy Sokka ??? Literally the best strategist ? Hakoda being the bravest dad ever ? I can't even ? Sokka is so so so smart and underrated. I can't even. The way he guessed Ozai had a bunker. His impeccable team work and complimenting Toph. The way he knew where Azula was going though she did get him. Ofc, Toph being the best earthbender. The way that little powerhouse found the effing bunker. She folded that hugeass metal door. Aang being Aang, the last hope of the world y'know. And Azula. Azula is absolutely fabulous. Then there is the parallel between her manipulating Sokka with Suki and Ozai manipulating Zuko to stay with Ursa...That was very interesting. Some other tumblr user had put a screencap of them and mentioned some parallel but I hadn't caught on since I hadn't seen the episode. I think it was smokey-liveblogs ? Feel free to correct me OP or anyone else who knows. I apologize if I am mistaken.
One thing I really liked was that the guys were free to express their feelings. Sokka's tears broke my heart. Poor baby, it feels as if the trauma from losing his mom, and Yue caught up to him...He probs wouldn't have survived losing Suki. Let's not talk abt Zuko, I have a very soft spot for sad abused kids.
Also, Azula's portrayal is probably one of the reasons some of us (me included, yea don't come for my head pls) keep on forgetting she's 14. The voice acting, the makeup, the smoothness...My girl coulda been some very influencial general or minister instead of Zuko's sister/ 2nd queen consort instead of Ozai's daughter and I wouldn't have questioned her abilities as a military strategist/politician. (And pls don't misunderstand, I am not pro Ozula or whatever, what I mean to say is that this little girl is so skilled she could have been a major adult villain and no questions would be asked lmao. Even now, many ppl think she is the older sister.) It's also very creepy...What kind of upbringing made Azula this manipulative ? While I have no doubts that Azula is very cunning and intelligent, I do not think that this level of manipulative prowess is normal for a small 14 yo, she literally caught the other smartest character in the show aka Sokka and grabbed him by the feels, and he does not strike me as a hothead (Zuko)/ Softie (Aang). The parallel is meant to show where she got it from (aka dear old genocidal phoenix papa).
I have already spoken about my own opinion on the Zuko/Ozai showdown. While most people find it -rightfully- cathartic, I personally feel it was not the smartest choice nor the most pragmatic. Aside from my own preferences, the writers could have avoided putting themselves in a tight spot with Zuko being able to kill Ozai and choosing not to "because destiny duh" then trying to convince Aang to do it, which many people -rightfully again- claim is non-sensical at best, hypocritical at worst, since Zuko is chill with calling for his death, though some think that seeing his demise as a necessary evil is not the same as killing him because he's still his father... I think that the confrontation would have been more interesting at the end of the series with a defeated Ozai instead. I would have loved it if Zuko decided to leave a letter and disappear to save Iroh/do stuff. Not only would it have avoided these writing "complications", but also it would have told us more about Zuko & Ozai's relationship indirectly. Would he care to open and read ? How much time would it take him to realize that Zuko peaced out of the palace lol ? What would have Zuko done had he left with Iroh or would they have gone separate ways ( Z with the Gaang/I with the white lotus)? Imagine my dude decided to join the invasion asap lol ? I am not sure as I am very new to this whole writing meta or whatever what this is considered to be, but I think that the main reason for this scene is probably to show the badassery of lightning redirection and "Iroh's teachings" finally getting through Zuko by having the very special technique he created saving his life from Ozai's abuse and generally horrible ways (imperialism, racism, genocide, child abuse, and so on...). It could have been replaced with something even more badass in my humble opinion : maybe him stopping combustion man with it and saving the Gaang's lives, Iroh's whole every nation/element matters coming full circle with him genuinely realizing the severity of his mistakes and protecting people of different nations from his country's march of genocide, the lightning being more than the symbol of the abuse he's been through, but all of FN's sins against its citizens and the other nations. I find this idea interesting in that it would have made Zuko's conflict and learning fit more into the grand scheme of things instead of an individual scale (he redirected lightning twice, once to save himself, and once to save Katara in canon, which is sometimes interpreted as a romantic gesture rather than a purely selfless one).
I didn't want to tackle the emotional impact of their confrontation because I feel it has been very largely touched upon by other very talented meta writers. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Again, going back to Toph and Sokka...Their wisdom is amazing. They may be children, but they are wise beyond their years. They stopped Aang from going to his own death. No, you weren't ready yet, sweetie pie. I love how they didn't lose faith despite their defeat. You can't save the world if you aren't very, very tenacious.I would have shipped Sokka x Toph if it weren't for the age gap and Suki's existence. 🙈
And...The water fam standing amidst of the bombings/chucking projectiles and planning...I wonder how this show was actually aimed at kids...Not easy to watch. I love how it absolutely captured the raw, vile brutality of war.
PS: Hakoda digging Katara's waterbending skills gave me life too, especially after seeing that episode where Pakku refused to teach her because she was a girl. And also, God I love healing, especially as a real life biological/medical science enthusiast. 🙈💖 *squeals* + Hakoda/Bato/the other adults being selfless and letting the kids escape as opposed to Ozai leaving Azula to fend off intruders...I'll never laud enough Hakoda's shielding his kids from the war.
PS 2: english is my 3rd language so I apologize for any strange sentence structures/incoherencies.

Just thought of another episode for the Avatar!Ty Lee AU: Does anything change in "Baton of the Water Tribe"?
lmao at the autocorrect on that one!
But yes! Bato my dude!
So this does change a lot of things about this episode(in part because I... I do not like the one part of this episode. y’all know the part.)
Anyway!
So yeah they run into Bato and we get Katara and Sokka excited to see their stepdad friend.
And now Bato. Bato isn’t an idiot. He clocks onto the fact that there’s a bunch of Fire Nation guys here. But four of them are kids.
However, it is Iroh that gets Bato’s attention. Because it was /kinda/ glossed over in an earlier episode and Katara and Sokka don’t know the weight or context to it.
But Bato knows /exactly/ who Iroh is. The Dragon of the West, the General who laid siege to Ba Sing Sae for 600 days. Man has one hell of a killcount and that’s just for direct action.
What is a guy like this doing with a bunch of kids, including two kids Bato considers his own and the Avatars, and seeming to directly oppose the war?
Bato doesn’t confront Iroh in front of the kids. But he does confront him about it. The only reason he’s not starting a fight is because, somehow, he’s gained Sokka and Katara’s trust.
Iroh’s response is mostly like ‘yeah that’s fair I am a pretty awful person.’ which catches Bato off guard. Iroh doesn’t go into /everything/ but he does admit that he’s realized how wrong things are, and honestly if he wasn’t determined to change things, he’d be totally fine with facing consequences of his actions. But he refuses to let another child die in this war. Not if he can help it.
Bato finds this a satisfactory enough answer. He doesn’t fully trust Iroh but he knows that everything is genuine.
Back to the rest of the plot!
While visiting, we get Katara, Sokka and Bato all just enjoying what they can of their own culture together. And just excitedly sharing stuff from back home with the others.
It opens up the more culture discussion as the Fire Nation kids ask more about all that, and share stories of the /good/ parts of the Fire Nation. The festivals, the foods, some of the games, theatre performances, etc.
It’s honestly a lot of fun for potential world building and culture sharing and everyone’s having fun for a bit.
But Aang is very quiet at first. Just. A reminder that even if Ty Lee is proof that some of the Air Nomads survived, their culture didn’t.
Ofc in this version someone notices Aang being quiet and either he confesses to that thought or they connect the dots. Either way, they start asking him more about his own culture too! And yeah there’s plenty of things he can tell them about. It is a bit sad still but.... it’s also kinda hopeful ya know?
We still do get the ice/rock dodging on the boats which is fun for all the kids like hell fuckin yeah more sharing the culture here let’s go!!!
When that letter for Bato comes, Aang doesn’t do any sketch shit about it because 1.) I hate that 2.) he feels a lot less alone than he did. Not just because even if Katara and Sokka left he’d still have people but just in general because like. The whole culture sharing talk was wholesome and less isolating.
Katara and Sokka do debate on going with Bato to see their dad, but decide that it’s better if they stay on their own path right now. They miss their dad, but they have their own things to do. They do make sure that Bato can tell the others hi for them!
Okay so like.
As for June. /Logically/ she shouldn’t be here given the changes. But I love her so she can stay.
I suppose we could either have Zhao hire her instead, or just that she saw the Gaang’s wanted posters and went ‘boy fuckin howdy is that a payday!’.

Dragons are very protective of what is theirs, and fire benders are very protective of their chosen people.
The moment Zuko sees Azula after the war, no longer under the control and possession of their father, somthing in his heart clicks back into place. He won't let his little sister be hurt again. "Touch her and I'll burn you alive."

anastasia au / アナスタシアバージョン zukaang week 2021 day four | ba sing se season 2 au / 平行宇宙
aang woke up under the control of dai li, while zuko and iroh lived in ba sing se three years after banishment. set as canon divergent version before crossroads of destiny. more of this story below the cut!
excuse my fuzzy brain for incoming plotholes maybe hehe yeah wow i love impulsiveness. anyway yeah sozin comet ain't comin until like, 120 AG-ish
zuko and iroh stopped searching for the avatar and peacefully worked under quon's patronage at ba sing se.
fortunately, due to their successful tea business, they found better access to knowledge of the avatar, as well as various air nomad's relics and textual informations. they decided to keep everything at their secret warehouse, hiring bands of thugs to keep it safe.
unbeknownst to iroh and zuko, four years before they lived as refugees, dai li was the first one to find aang in his iceberg state near eastern air temple.
hundred years ago, aang briefly fought against fire nation army at the temple alongside pathik, gyatso, the nuns, and several young monks. he was saved by pathik from dire situation by getting thrown into the ocean.
long feng planned to raise the boy as their secret weapon so earth kingdom could rise, taking down the fire nation.
upon woken up, aang was hypnotized, and could only remember that he's an orphan named liu jun, born as earthbender.
he was told that the markings on his skin was a curse since birth by angered spirits, and to never let other people see it or they'll be facing the consequences of his misfortune.
he lived like a bird in a cage under long feng's watch and the head of dai li's tutelage. for six years long, he felt horribly stressed.
one day, aang finally found a way to get out of his residence by tricking the caretakers, sneaking and riding on earth kingdom's logistic vehicles.
once he's out of the food supply cart, he found and saved momo from being sold by black market thugs in the lower ring. there, he stumbled upon zuko and iroh's secret warehouse.
zuko was mad for the intrusion, but quickly realized something about the boy's appearance. iroh, however, noticed that this liu jun has upper class upbringing, and concluded that he's one of the rebel child who wanted the taste of outer walls.
zuko just blatantly state the obvious; "kid, you really, really look like the avatar in that painting," but aang was like, "who's avatar?" and ended up being educated about hundred years war history.
aang felt shocked by the tattoos he saw on the painting. still, he quickly dismissed the idea that he might be a living airbender, since their tattoo was supposed to be a sign of mastery, not a curse like long feng said. he didn't tell this to iroh and zuko, yet.
"aish, you must be mad for ever thinking i'm the avatar. he should be an old man by now! i'm afraid of being near fire or under the water for too long, and i dislike being in cramped spaces with damp air. how am i supposed to bend those elements?" (those are also the mental issues resulted by long feng's braingwashing, ofc)
either way, he needed to hide from long feng. aang quickly sealed the deal to iroh's offer who gave him the chance to help their tea shop in the meantime. well, anything but being under dai li's supervision works.
for a week of working together, zuko had noticed a lot of strange things in aang; like how he could easily play kangling (air nomad's bone flute), how his footsteps were so light he almost can never be heard walking, and how he never want to bathe and get dressed with other people nearby.
in the hunt for aang, long feng sent royal guards to every corner of earth kingdom territory. finally, they found aang at the warehouse. chaotic pursuit ensues. iroh and zuko managed to save him—at the price of being labeled as criminals.
with the help of june, iroh and zuko found their way to their old ship and crews. they brought aang there, and asked who he actually was since he's so important for the dai li.
from zuko and iroh's research, the only living people who could confirm the avatar's identity was bumi, who's in omashu, and the temple sages. too much risk for those, ofc, so they opted to go to the empty eastern air temple for more hints.
there, they met pathik, who went, "monkey feathers! aang, is that you?" to which aang replied, "nah, i'm liu jun." and pathik's like, "but i can sense your avatar spirit! and-and your tattoos, let me look at it!" but aang was so, so afraid of showing it.
then, by nudging his inner ki, pathik managed to trigger the avatar state out of aang, causing him to remember everything, including his airbending ability.
zuko and iroh be like, "well, shit, he's really the avatar," and their journey went rather hellish from that, with both zhao's fleet and the dai li on their tail.
after being informed by pathik that he had bonded with an air bison named appa, aang wished he could find him, since appa's the only family that might remain alive with him in this world. zuko promised that they would find appa.
under the pretense of companionship, zuko secretly plotted to give aang to ozai, while he and iroh helped the boy to master four elements by travelling around the world.
feelings were hindering him on the way, though. months of travelling together did that. "i think we could be good friends, even in another lifetime, if not a hundred years ago." oof, aang.
just like dimitri and anastasia, zukaang had deep bonding session at the boat with their dancing dragon and firebending lessons. iroh did smile knowingly at them.
betrayal slapped hard when aang found out about zuko's actual plan during their fight against zhao at north pole, who revealed with, "you befriend this dishonored prince, avatar? all he wanted to do was to send you to the fire lord as a nicely wrapped gift! this was all a ploy to earn your trust, to take you down by knowing your exact blind spots! you are merely a tool for him to regain his former identity!"
ouch. they got separated from there. aang then teamed up with the eventually formed gaang at the other side of the world, while zuko getting scolded by iroh, "you don't only lose someone that you care about, but the hope of the whole world! your hope! hadn't the past three years taught you something? hunger for power only bring despair to you!"
both once separated parties then reunited with the crossroads episode. aang ended up dead, katara swore to finish the fire siblings off, and zuko went absolutely mad, drowned in grief.
it's up to zuko now, to actually fulfill his promises; from finding appa to saving the world from his father—all without knowing that katara could revive aang. angst angst angst, final boss, zukaang banging then everyone lived happily ever after ♥
the musical scores would be:
a rumour in ba sing se
once upon an agrahāyana
caldera holds the key to your heart
learn to wield it
learn to wield it (dancing dragon reprise)
in the dark of the moonless night
feels great to finally manifest this draft of zukaang anastasia au for @zukaangweek uwu

LTF Swamp Au
(mild spoilers for Among the Mangroves if you haven't read it yet)
idk the logistics but things get changed up when Azulon tells Ozai to kill Zuko and the end result is fevered, burned 9 y/o Zuko being dropped along the Earth Kingdom coast that merges into Foggy Swamp and then offered up to the Swamp rather than any kind people taking him in
The Swamp immediately accepts Zuko as one of its new children, of course, and wants to his ease pain. It pushes Zuko's lil raft or whatever he was sent out on the water on toward the village for his physical pain to be cared for. But what of his emotional pain? The Swamp has always taken in babies who don't carry painful memories before they become children of the Swamp... So the Swamp's solution is to wipe Zuko's memory
It's a whole shebang memory wipe. Zuko doesn't remember anything about himself, including the fact that he's a firebender
Zuko starts a whole new life as a swamp boy and toddler Châu claims him as her new big brother
The Swamp can sense Zuko's lost air/fire heritage and plays with him with its airbending so often that Zuko figures out how to heatbend to return the Swamp's playing
Actual firebending is locked behind Zuko's memories and the trauma of Ozai burning him, so with him only heatbending, everyone assumes he's an airbender
So Zuko grows up and spends the next ~7 years thinking he's an airbender...
Until the Gaang drops into the Swamp.
Katara and Sokka are all hype for Aang that there's another airbender in the world! But Aang is a master airbender. He can sense that something is off about Zuko's "airbending" even if he can't quite fully place what's off about it
Gaang spends longer in the Swamp as Aang and Zuko hit off despite the airbending argument... or because of it actually? They easily lose track of time comparing techniques and trying out each other's moves.
(It was fun for like. An hour, seeing Aang so happy bending with a fellow airbender or at least if Aang is right, someone with a similar bending style. But then Katara and Sokka realized Aang and Zuko were not going to calm down anytime soon. So Katara goes off to learn more about bending the water in plants. And Sokka groans at being the odd man out and gets roped into Châu's antics)
Ofc the gaang have places to be, a war to stop, and can't stay too long. The Swamp convinces Zuko to go with him (no matter how much it wants Zuko to stay)
So begins Zuko's journey with the gaang and the beginning of the end of his Swamp life 😢
I'm thinking Wan Shi Tong is the one to reveal the whole "he's a firebender, actually" thing. Zuko presents his bending as his knowledge since Aang insists its not any airbending he knows of. And then Wan Shi Tong is all oh wow thought that was an extinct bending form and I would never witness it myself. To which Zuko's like! What! You know this? Tell Aang I'm an airbender! And Wan Shi Tong just drops the bomb "You're not an airbender? You're a heatbender, but humans of this time would call you a firebender"
Sokka: WTF WHY DIDNT YOU TELL US YOURE A FIREBENDER?! Katara: He didn't know either, jerk!
That's all I got. LTF Swamp Au jazzhands

Hello please tell me literally everything about leaves on the vine thank you good day
hi! thank you for the ask! you're going to regret saying 'literally everything' as soon as you click Keep Reading (: but first, a snippet
Toph😎 added Azula ⚡
[Sokka] Toph why
[Toph] Oops pressed the wrong button
[Suki] ...your phone is controlled entirely by your voice
[Katara] NOT AZULA!! She tried to kill all of us at some point!
[Aang] She nearly did kill me 😢
[Azula] Well, I DIDN'T, did I?
I should've tried harder.
[Zuko] AZULA
[Azula] Fine, that's not what I meant to say.
Honestly, I don't remember that. I was probably fucked up.
I was crazy back then heh huh hehehe
WIP ask game
I have a VERY MESSY, general outline for this, but it could change at any time. mostly just going where the gaang takes me!
the story is set 7 years post-war. yes, this is done so that toph can say "what up I'm toph, 19, and I never fuckin learned how to read." that's the only reason.
Sokka, Teo, and the Mechanist have invented phones, electricity, the Internet, search engines, and social media apps in those seven years. (if you like keeping your brain intact, you should definitely not think about the logicality of this story.) Iroh often helped generate electricity until the factories could sustain themselves and Toph was the one to create gadgets suitable for people who are blind.
on the seventh anniversary of the war's end, they unveil the phones to the public. the devices are available to everyone and there's no social inequity because this is my fic and what I say goes
they have Tumblr, but Toph insisted that they name it Rumblr. there is also Kohbook (haha get it like Facebook) that is used exclusively by the White Lotus, Kanna, Aunt Wu, and, for some reason, Bosco. cue ALL the facebook memes. we have them typing in capslock randomly, using all the wrong emojis at the worst time, shit-talking Pakku publicly because they forgot how to open HawkMessenger, praising their children/grandchildren/students to the skies and then ending with a really embarrassing anecdote...it's a fun time
idk a good name for the ATLA Twitter app (if you guys have ideas, help) BUT do you guys know that one account that pretended to be other people? I think the handle was jaboukie? they pretended to be other people by changing their username and profile picture, and then tweeted embarrassing things?? hopefully that rings a bell,, anyway - toph is going to do that. she likes the chaos.
uhh okay as for the actual plot, we start with an oblivious zuko and deep in denial katara. we also have suki and sokka who have to be separated for now, and there's a lot they're realizing they don't know about each other, so they have a bumpy road ahead. and then there's aang and toph who aren't even thinking of each other that way, but they will. they will
zuko is actually dating mai at the start of the story. that goes as well as can be expected from a zk story. as their relationship deteriorates, suki and toph are busy pulling katara out of denial, which culminates in the last snippet from this link
aang and toph development fhjkdsahf i still have to figure this out. never written them before so this will be a challenge
suki and sokka talk about how war has affected them. maybe they decide to take a break? look i really cannot write angst-less stories
iroh decides, after a few months of seeing zuko be mopey and face 107 assassination attempts, that he needs a wife. he arranges a whole partner selection thing without zuko's knowledge, and zuko, for all his Fire Lordy powers, doesn't know how to get out of this or refuse his uncle anything
katara is not included in the pool of possible wives, because everyone knows putting her name in a hat like that would piss her off. interestingly enough, she's pissed off anyway! it's anyone's guess why...
development shown through vine references yay
the whole shebang where zuko realizes he's looking for katara in every woman and confesses to katara
some more dramatic lines and growth blah blah blah
ofc, we also have sukka and taang developing in the meantime. sukka has probably gotten back together, and taang's nearing the point of getting together
insert melodramatic, tearjerking zk reunion here
kiss and be happy. maybe another assassination attempt if i'm in the mood for it
the end. maybe? probably
if you read all of this, I'm sorry. my brain is jumbled. here's another teaser :D
[Zuko] KATARA I NEED YOUR HELP
[Katara] On my way. What did you do now
[Z] Hey! I didn't do anything
I need help picking a wife. These ladies are terrifying
---chat switch---
[Katara] I hate Zuko. I'm going to bash him so hard the next time I see him
[Suki] 👀👀
[Toph] 😏😏😏😏😏
[Katara] That's not even an innuendo what is wrong with you two
[Suki] 😏😏😏😏
[Toph] 👀👀👀
[Katara] 🤬🤬🤬

How and when Aang’s beliefs affected negatively on Atla
WARNING: Before I get into this I wanna point a few things. First of all, this is not intending to be hate towards Aang or anything like it, it’s about criticism of one of his character flaws and the way the writers could’ve developed this aspect of him in a much better way.
Second of all, this is my personal opinion, if you have a different point of view that’s completely valid.
And third and last, this whole post is about what I saw on ATLA the series, not the comics, I haven’t read all the comics so I don’t think I have enough knowledge about them to include them here, that’s it. Enjoy the post :D
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So we all know Aang’s origin: he was raised by airbender monks in the Southern Air Temple, which is the main reason for Aang to have the beliefs and philosophy that he has. He is really attached to his spiritual side and believes all life is sacred. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, in fact I believe that it is a very beautiful philosophy and way of living.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The problem comes when he tries to make everyone believe this stuff, and decides the literally faith of humanity only based on his beliefs and what was convenient for them, so basically, I saw his beliefs on a negative way in two levels: personal and worldwide. I’m gonna try to explain these two points with two different examples.
Personal:
A chapter that I think portrays really good what I mean by aangs beliefs being negative towards other is The Southern Raiders. In this chapter, when Katara tells Aang that she is going to face THE KILLER OF HER OWN MOTHER, he’s like “Revenge is not the answer blah blah ”. What Zuko tells Aang could’ve sound bad but it’s the truth “That's cute, but this isn't air temple preschool”. It is cute and a good advice, but you cant tell Katara, who lost her mother when she was five and saw her killer, to not choose revenge because the monks told him differently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His beliefs aren’t wrong, wanting to shove those beliefs down katara’s throat when she needed a closure its not. It wasn’t supportive, it wasn’t empathic and it was not okay. He couldve actually go with her if he would have put himself in her place and make sure that she was going to be okay, like when he was there when katara said “lets destroy a damn factory”.
He actually thought he was right until the freaking end of the chapter, he literally said to Katara “You did the right thing. Forgiveness is the first step you have to take to begin healing” and Katara obviously didn’t forgive that mf and she souldnt, but he is so centric into his own beliefs that he cant understand or see that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Worldwide:
Okay, listen, Aang is the freaking damn Avatar, his whole job is to restore balance and master the four elements. His biggest challenge was ofc the war. The chapter (or chapters ig) im using as an example is Sozin’s comet.
Aang wants to end the war and the only logical solution is to kill Ozai, everyone tells him that but he says that no one understands him because he doesn’t want to kill this mf cuz “he is a human too” and lets remember that for Aang and the airnomads in general all life is sacred.
(Im not even gonna start talking about how he wanted for the gaang to understand HIM when Ozai is Ozai yk, like would you expect for Zuko to be like “oh okay I get you, all life is sacred and you should follow your heart and not kill the most horrible human being on earth who killed several people, and was an abusive father towards me you know when he burned my damn face and treated me like im trash, I understand lets meditate”, as an example)
So, he goes for advice to the previous Avatars and every single one of them EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM tells him to kill that bitch, including an air nomad just like him, Avatar Yangchen told him “Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world”. I MEAN SHE WAS SO RIGHT.
Look, we can discuss if Ozai should have died or not instead of simply taking away his fire bending, but if Aang would have let him died it would actually be a really good arc for his character, because it would mean to understand that when the world needs you to protect it you have to make a decision not based entirely on your beliefs, sacrifice that sometimes to protect the rest of the humanity, because not everyone was an air nomad or shared his beliefs. It would have shown him that things don’t always can be the way you want but the way they have to be.

Hi there! For the fandom ask, can I send in Tina x Zeke (Bob’s Burgers) for the ship questions (002), and Suki (A:TLA) for the character questions? (003)
Thanks, and have a nice day/night?
I’m so sorry this took so long, and thank you so much for sending it in! <3
002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you:
Tina x Zeke
When I started shipping them: as soon as I realized how much Zeke seems to like Tina, and when he started proving how well he’d treat her!
My thoughts: good tier ship, I have nothing but love for them!
What makes me happy about them: Zeke never giving up, but still not sabotaging Tina and Jimmy Jr, he just wants her to be happy!
What makes me sad about them: how Tina is literally dating his best friend, and how shit is he treating her ig?
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I honestly haven’t found enough fanfics for me to hate anything?
Things I look for in fanfic: just for it too exists, haha!
My wishlist: happy things!
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: idk man :/
My happily ever after for them: Tina becoming a famous romance novelist and Zeke taking over Bob’s Burgers with Louise! Zeke is head chef and Louise runs the business!
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
Suki <3
How I feel about this character: I love her! I wish she was in more episodes tho, and that we knew more about her backstory!
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Sokka, Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, Yue
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Zuko and Toph, I’d love to see them interact more platonically
My unpopular opinion about this character: I understand why she isn’t always included in art of the Gaang, since was included in so few episodes, but I ofc prefer her to be there ofc!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: more screen time!
Favorite friendship for this character: Sokka and her, I love that they’re both dating and such great friends!
My crossover ship: none

a comprehensive list of my WIPs hopefully to be worked on in 2021, sorted by priority.  had to add a read more because the list is embarrassingly long.  any snippets I’ve posted of these stories/ asks I’ve answered about them are also linked below!
fics that should’ve been finished, like, yesterday
watching you watching me ch 5: the final chapter of the zukka fic I started over the summer during what was probably the peak of the atla renaissance.  have I lost interest in this?  yeah, a little.  am I still gonna finish it?  absolutely.  x
the world laid out before you: second person pov highlighting some of the ladies of atla and impactful moments in their lives (including more detailed backstories I’ve made up for characters like song, jin, and smellerbee).  katara and azula’s sections are just about done, but I still have eight more people to write.  x
with every breath: an exploration of aang’s grief throughout the series in five parts (with maybe a bonus part 6 somewhere down the road).  one of those fics where I have such a strong idea of the vibe I want to convey that I’ve procrastinated actually writing it out of fear that I won’t be able to measure up to my own expectations. x x
fics I’m excited for (and will definitely work on) but not entirely sure where they’re going
the first five years: a series of moments from zuko’s early reign as firelord.  fifteen chapters planned and counting, probably won’t start posting until at least a few sections are done.  x
swallow this valley whole: exploration of azula, mai, and ty lee’s relationships with food, femininity, ambition, and power.  x
treacherous (i like it): mailee moments we did and didn’t see throughout the series from first meeting/ friendship to end of the war/ beginnings of a relationship.  x x
hanging in the balance: a bunch of unrelated potential aus about how the night of azulon’s death/ ursa’s disappearance/ ozai’s ascension to the throne could have gone.  x
vignettes: tiny moments in mai and zuko’s lives from the fountain incident when they were kids through adulthood/ old age
uncle: the impact uncles can have on their nieces and nephews- mai and the warden and zuko and iroh.  x x
three people: three people mai kisses, three she does not, and one she kisses again.  eventual maiko but with some diversions along the way.  x
mutually generative elements: zuko’s understanding of the elements grows far beyond anything iroh could’ve taught him.  begins at the western air temple and continues through the ember island players, though doesn’t rehash each episode- it’s more like moments that could’ve happened between zuko and members of the gaang as they slowly warm up to each other
like a sparrowhawk singing: season 2-ish timeframe?  early on their hunt for the avatar, mai and ty lee get separated from azula and run into the freedom fighters.  not knowing that these two formidable young women are fire nation, jet tries to recruit them.  mai and ty lee discuss loyalty, honor, obligation, and what freedom means to them.  eventual mailee?
love like a brother: ursa’s second pregnancy is a difficult one.  azula is born frighteningly premature- her lungs aren’t fully developed and ozai writes off her potential for firebending as nonexistent (he’s wrong ofc, he’s wrong about most things lmao).  greatly weakened from the birth, ursa falls ill and dies after months of struggle.  meanwhile azula survives against the odds and is mainly raised by her brother- resulting in an unshakable loyalty between them.  basically zuko still gets banished but this time has azula on his side- not with him physically but back in the fire nation playing the ‘perfect daughter’ to ozai’s face while working behind the scenes with mai and ty lee to help zuko (and eventually, once zuko switches sides, the avatar)
the last eight years: the story of zuko and mai’s relationship, told in the style of the musical ‘the last five years.’  (alternating povs, mai tells the story backwards- beginning with them breaking up after the war, zuko tells the story in order- beginning with them meeting for the first time as kids, with one scene in the middle where they overlap)
fics I already know I’m not gonna work on (but they’re going on the list anyway for the sake of completeness)
all night i’ll riot with you: just read this post.  I may actually end up writing this, who knows.
cardigan: modern au zukka, a coming of age/ rekindling of friendship type fic that just barely turns towards romance later on.  x
the tea shop: modern university au where iroh franchised the jasmine dragon and zuko, mai, and ty lee work at the location on their campus, make friends, struggle through their degrees, and also develop crushes on some of their frequent customers along the way lmao.  featuring zukka, tysuki and jetmai; past sukka, maiko, and (non-toxic) jetko.  takes place in what’s basically my fictionalized version of nanyang technological university in singapore
roommates: modern au zukka where sokka has been in love with his oblivious roommate for years, only to realize in the end that he’s been the oblivious one this whole time.  cheesy and cliché, I wrote one funny scene where zuko says the phrase ‘compulsory heterosexuality’ and then got bored with the whole fic
being neighborly: yet another modern au zukka fic, this time with sokka and zuko living across the hall from each other at university.  sokka is a mechanical engineering major with a drawing minor, zuko is polisci with a dramatic arts minor.  nothing much happens
miscalculation: starts beginning of season 3 when azula and zuko return to the fire nation.  ozai somehow learns the avatar is still alive after azula claims zuko killed him in ba sing se, and this revelation causes him to re-evaluate his daughter’s loyalties.  ozai reveals his knowledge on the day of the eclipse and confronts his daughter; zuko saves azula from their father’s wrath and takes her with him when he leaves
in a strange land: tales of ba sing se- azula, mai, and ty lee edition.  featuring azula vs one very stubborn joo dee, mai’s solo adventure in the lower ring in which she chases a certain person in a blue spirit mask, and ty lee visiting ba sing se university’s libraries/ allusions to her great grandmother being an air nomad
lu ten lives/ vigilante cousins au: exactly what the title says- lu ten is secretly alive and goes with zuko on his banishment.  a lot of stuff happens but I’m pretty sure I’m never gonna actually write it out in full

The funniest thing about june teasing katara and zuko about being a couple is that she just sees a pretty girl and an attractive guy, both looking almost the same age which immediately makes her go "you two must be a couple" and it just reminds me of zvtara shippers, you know what i mean? I'm convinced one of the reasons a lot of ppl ship them is bc of their looks. katara being the female protagonist and also a pretty, smart and powerful girl & zuko, despite not being the male protagonist, being the most attractive guy in the gaang. Boom, a "bomb ass ship". It is worth to recall that "people ship zutara bc they projected onto katara and had a crush on zuko". And if they say they don't ship them for that reason, then it's bc they read too much between the lines in every interaction they have. So, back to june, she didn't even care if they had chemistry or if they were friends or anything, she just straight up teased them about being a couple lmao. Because in all honesty zvtara can be an appealing ship in anyone's eyes but THAT'S IT, it doesn't go further than that. I can be testimony of that😅Before even watching the show i was like june, one day i saw a zk fanart and was like "wow aren't those zuko and katara from atla? They look so good, she's gorgeous and he's hot" i already knew kataang was endgame and that mai was zuko's love interest but seeing zuko and katara together was pleasing to my eyes. However once i watched the show for the first time (2 months ago i think) i realized there was really no romantic chemistry between them, nothing, literally nothing, i mean, i wasn't even waiting for the zvtara content in the show that made ppl ship them so much, i was actually very neutral about ships, i couldn't care less about them, but i still realized nothing was happenig between them and that it was obvious since book 1 ep 1 that kataang was endgame. Zuko and katara were two teenagers from opposite sides of a war that tried to kill each other multiple times and when zuko changed sides they developed a completely platonic relationship. As i said, people either ship them because it's an appealing and aesthetically pleasing ship (water/fire, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, the common red & blue ship) or they just love reading too much between the lines, OR BOTH, because they were so thirsty about it they ended up convincing themselves there was romantic tension between them, that they liked each other and that zvtara was scrapped when it was never planned in the first place. Not to mention the reasons why they claim zvtara should've been endgame are based only on symbolism and things they have in common that are just so ??? Random. e.g. (i saw these on a post on facebook and the comment section was hilarious, it was full of ppl being sarcastic about it & making fun of it) saying they should've been canon bc:
1. "They both lost their mothers at a young age" (?)
2. "katara was good but had rage in her heart and zuko was bad but had good in his heart so it was like yin and yang, and that was the main purpose/topic of the show" (?)
3. "they both had alter egos (painted lady and blue spirit)" (???) this one sounds like saying maiko was canon bc zuko worked in a tea shop and mai worked in a flower shop😂
4. "Zuko was the only one who supported katara in taking revenge on her mom's assassin" (?) if you ask me, that just proves zuko is not right for katara, he led her to do something she was gonna regret later (not trying to hate on zuko, i love him, and since i love him i acknowledge his flaws. I understand why he thought it was the best thing to do, he's an impulsive and resentful boy (he would've done the same if it was his mom) and he noticed how thirsty katara was for revenge, ofc he wanted to help her + he wanted her to accept him and thought it was the right thing to do in order to gain her trust, but it wasn't) unlike zuko, aang tried to make katara come to her senses and do the thing that was best for her: forgive and let go, and it was basically what she did at the end. She didn't do what zuko expected her to do. She did what aang expected her to do. She didn't forgive her mom's assassin, but she forgave zuko, and she didn't do THAT thing she (and aang) knew would regret later. Aang knew katara and what was the best thing for her to do.
5. and the most ridiculous one, "they both saved each other's lives in the final agni kai"(???????) and the funniest part is that it was followed by "WHAT MORE PROOFS DO YOU WANT???". Honestly wtf did ppl expect? Did they expect zuko to stand there and watch katara die? Did they expect katara to just stand there and watch zuko lay on the floor & die? And this has been said a million times and i am going to join and say it once again: zuko would've done that for ANYONE from the gaang, he would've done the same for toph, sokka, suki and aang. Because he learned to care about them. As for katara, she would've done that for anyone too wtf she healed aang once too and even brought him back to life. (I wouldn't be surprised if zk shippers used that as a parallel for romantic zvtara proof bc they're just like that💀)
There were more "reasons" but they're just so stupid and taken out of context like "they care for each other" & "katara was the one who encouraged him to talk to his uncle" like yeah that's what friends do. Basically all zvtara shippers do is REACH.
Also, i just can't see it happening. I like the enemies to lovers trope, maybe if the writers really intended to make it canon, i would have been down for the ship, it would've been interesting to see how it developed, but,, they didn't, and later i came to the realization that if it would've really happened, it would've been so... weird. Time to bring up the "colonized and colonizer ship" and how some ppl feel uncomfortable about it. Besides the fact that a relationship between zuko and katara wouldn't have worked (they're incompatible af, katara is a girl with a strong character and zuko is a guy with anger issues that takes everything personal, they'd be at each other's throats 99% of the time) it's just weird to think that katara would choose to marry a man from the fire nation, the nation that caused a big war that traumatized her, the nation that took her mother away from her. Imagine katara ruling along with zuko a nation she despised for years. Fire lady katara doesn't sit right with me, and i'm sure it doesn't sit right with a lot of ppl as well. I don't see katara doing that, and yes, i know she forgave zuko, but still, she would've never done that 🤦🏽‍♀️ i think it would've been so OOC tbh.
Another thing i laugh my ass off at is when they say "zuko should've chosen katara instead of mai" as if they were ever in a relationship for zuko to say "ok imma choose katara i wanna be with her". As if katara was EVER an option for him. They never showed interest in each other, what's not clicking?????? And zuko only had eyes for mai, not to mention that despite zuko and mai had a rough relationship, no girl would've dealed with zuko's bs better than mai. Can you imagine katara dealing with zuko blowing up over everything? Because i can't. Also people saying things like "zuko deserves someone who is always there for him and listens to him" (and ofc they're talking about katara) like, ok, you hate that katara is aang's "therapist" but you want her to be zuko's therapist. Logic? Where? And I do remember mai being a supportive gf and trying to cheer him up multiple times. Did they watch the same show as me?
Zvtarians try to play the victims about how they were "robbed" bc some voice actors shipped them and from what i've read people who worked for the show suggested to go for zk, but that's stupid, it doesn't count as "they planned it but scrapped it, we were robbed". The only word that counts are the creators' voice and they have stated they were always rooting for kataang, so no, you were not robbed.
People are just so in love with the idea of zuko and katara together they really convinced themselves it was likely to happen. Honestly zvtara it's a fine ship as fanon but ppl ruined it for me and what i hate the most is when they ship it and hate on aang and mai at the same time and make them look SO bad to invalidate kataang and maiko. Saying aang is abusive and mai is toxic is complete ✨bullshit✨ and lastly, it's ridiculous when they say the creators were cowards for not making it canon. They're cowards for not fulfilling your greatest childhood wish? Something they never planned? It is THEIR show. If you hate sm how things turned out then quit atla once and for all and go find another show that you know is gonna give you what you expect,,, it's tiring that they've been crying about it for 15 yrs , like, i joined the fandom recently but i can imagine how tired old atla fans must be of this.
OK so I have a lot of thoughts about this and firstly,,,anon I appreciate the dedication that it took for you to write  this, and I agree with many of your points. However, the attitude I have on this blog towards Avatar ships is far more neutral than what you’re saying.
Ultimately, romance is not and never was the focus of Avatar. Romantic development was always secondary or tertiary plot, and the entire show was far more focused on platonic relationship development. My attitude towards shippers on here - including Zutara shippers - is that people can ship what they want, as long as they’re respectful of each other and of the other characters that “interfere” with their ship. End of the day, shipping is irrelevant to the core of the show.
People shipping something because they find it aesthetically appealing is honestly,,,fine. Personally, I think it’s reductionist, but I don’t care if you do because everyone has the right to enjoy media however they want to.
That being said, we absolutely should call out racist or problematic tropes that we see, including ‘fire lady katara”. I also agree that it’s upsetting when people bash other characters in order to further their ship, as much of the bashing is also pretty racist and/or misogynistic. Calling that out, however, is separate from calling out every single person who happens to enjoy certain ships.
“She didn't do what zuko expected her to do. She did what aang expected her to do. She didn't forgive her mom's assassin, but she forgave zuko, and she didn't do THAT thing she (and aang) knew would regret later. Aang knew katara and what was the best thing for her to do.”
I understand where you’re coming from, but I honestly disagree with this take. Both Aang and Zuko were approaching the situations from their own life experiences, but Katara didn’t do what either of the boys wanted. She chose her own path, by both sparing Yon Rha’s life but also refusing to forgive him. The episode is about Katara and her personal trauma and its focus should not be on her relationships with either Zuko or Aang.
When I make posts such as this, it’s less about hating Z*tara and more about how this fandom focuses all its attention on romance and shipping, to the point where if you acknowledge a relationship’s importance it’s assumed you pair the two romantically. I don’t read Zuko and Katara’s relationship as romantic (for reasons that it would take too long to explain here), but their relationship development is extremely important, the two of them share tons of parallels and the final Agni Kai marks the culmination of both of their character arcs. Yes, Zuko would have taken the lightning for any of the characters, but it’s thematically important that it was Katara. None of this inherently means it’s romantic, but refusing to acknowledge the significance of the relationship between them is equally reductionist.
This isn’t an attack on you, anon, and you’re 100% allowed to have negative feelings about a ship. But at the end of the day, it’s not worth getting this worked up over. If I were you I’d focus more on creating/consuming content for a ship you like than bashing ships you don’t!

Hi, I really like your blog! I re-watched atla in the last couple days after a long time and realized again how awesome it is Maybe you get that question often but which is your favorite scene? (Mine is in S3E17 when theater-toph shows how he 'sees')
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH i always get irrationally happy when i hear ppl say they enjoy my blog and also when i hear them say they rewatched atla i hope this show reached cult status one day and 20 yrs from now on when s/o says they never watched atla theyll get shocked looks in return shortly followed by the question HOW COULD YOU NOT WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
anYWAY i think i answered a similar question before but this is giving me the perfect excuse to procrastinate studying and to talk in unnecessary length about atla which are 2 out of my 3 favourite things to do. also i know u only asked me for ONE scene but i drank like 8 cups of tea the past 3 hours and im feeling v enthusiastic right now so i’m gonna make a list of my top 5 fav scenes
#5 im 100% in agreement with ur choice of fav scene and actually the entire ember island players episode is PURE GOLD and lbr ask ANY atla fan and they can quote at least 2 lines out of there perfectly. honorable mention to “HOW could you POSSIBLY say that!” and THE SCAR IS NOT ON THE WRONG SIDE!
#4 the boiling rock azula vs mai and ty lee showdown holy shit that was life-changing sokka and co. in mortal peril all seems lost and appa isnt there this time to bust them out of those kind of situations and then MAI COMES TO THE RESCUE with one of the most elegant and memorable entrances ever “What are you doing?” “Saving the jerk who dumped me.” kick my ass mai!!!!. and then later we get ANOTHER incredible line delivered I GUESS YOU DONT KNOW PEOPLE AS WELL AS YOU THINK YOU DO. YOU MISCALCULATED. I LOVE ZUKO MORE THAN I FEAR YOU lmao girl dont we all and then we see azula LOOSING HER COOL tbh i dont think that happened before that scene and theyre getting ready to FIGHT EACH OTHER and i wouldve loved to see that and lbr azula prob wouldve kicked mai’s ass bc it’s azula but holy hecking heck man that wouldve been amazing but of course then we get TY LEE!!!! TURNING ON AZULA!!! CHOOSING MAI OVER AZULA!!!  holy shit man i was going !!!!!! when i first saw that scene wee 13-y/o me did not see this coming at all and then when i rewatched it a few weeks later it was SO OBVIOUS that they were going for this all along and what im saying is a) Mai is a Queen and i adore her and 2) everyone needs to get on board of the mai/ty lee submarine with me bc that shit is Real and There
#3 ok so im totally gonna cheat this one and just say EVERYTHING SOKKA EVER SAYS bc i couldnt possibly narrow it down i’d be doing a disservice to this character and this show if i did but some favourites include the random SCREAMING IN CAPSLOCK!!! he sometimes does like “i’m going to take my vacation…. AT THE LIBRAREEEEH!!!” and “i knew it was only a matter of time…. APPA ATE MOMO!!!” and “can your science explain why it rains?”“YES! YES IT CAN!” “MUSHY GIANT FRIEND!!!!” and ofc “WATER TRIBE” which actually was NOT a Patented Capslock Sokka Scream but def deserves to be mentioned
#2 “My first girlfriend turned into the moon.” - “That’s rough, buddy.” Iconic. Legendary. Immortal. Put It On My Damn Gravestone.
#1 the scene in The Desert where the gaang meets the sandbenders and toph says recognises one of them of being the one to kidnap appa and to muzzle him and aang goes you muzzled appa?! like. this fucking scene still gets my heart racing EVERYTIME and mumbling holy shit under my breath like u fucked up real bad sandman buddy and then aang is so angry and in pain he goes into the avatar state and everyone is running away in fear but katara stays by his side and reaches out for him and pulls him back and aang is crying and the screen fades to white this scene destroyed me unchallenged number one always and forever
