theres this fic idea i’ve been thinking of for a long while now (honestly i've had this specific post drafted since may of this year, so maybe since january or so) and want to eventually write one day, but if im being honesty with myself i'm not sure if i ever will, so im at least putting it out there now.

its a chip analysis piece (likely in some kind of 5+1 format, primarily from jay’s POV) specifically between chip and his relationship with food. the simple fact he’s always been this scrawny malnourished street kid when growing up outside of the black rose means a lot to me, and it would likely cause a lot of habits or behaviors the others wouldnt have or possibly even understand to begin with which would be a fun thing to explore and how it can reveal more abt him.

scenes/topics that would be Covered will be under cut

1 ---

the first thing that immediately comes to mind is an analysis and expansion upon his canon interactions with food in canon, such as the bag of chip’s jay gives him on loffinlot or the cinnamon roll incident

for one, the fact that jay carries snacks at all is kind of indicative and would likely be the focus. use jay's pov to explain how she’s learned to bring snacks on adventures since teaming with chip (likely with comments being somewhat snide or huffy about it, or comparing him to a child demanding/needing a snack, since they are still kind of strangers and she doesn’t know much about chip).

(if desired, it could also expand on how he fuckin’ made that small bag of chips last so long. yes the true answer is “because it was funny” but like… rationing behavior? jay might make an absent note of it (due to her observant feat), but wouldn’t likely extrapolate further at the time. also may be cut entirely for messing with story flow too much to include as a detail.)

the cinnamon roll scene is… listen he literally tried to share food with someone and broke down crying doing so because he loves them and wants to share that. obvious example of using food as a language for love and appreciation (which, again, takes on another level when you remember he comes from a food-scarce background). like thats just a thing that happened i don’t care if it was a goof that’s just canon. bite me.

2 ---

observation of chip having "weird" behaviors with food. these include having a seemingly massive appetite and being sure to always clean his plate (you don’t turn down access to food and you take what you can in case you can’t do it again soon.)

but also: as part of chip kind of projecting onto ollie, he’s always trying to pawn more food onto ollie’s plate. sometimes it’s as subtle as saying he’s “not hungry anymore” and scrapping whats left to ollie (which would catch jay’s eye because previously he’s always finished his plate even when full and clues her in) to as obvious as literally giving him more and saying he needs to eat more.

both the above points would be stuff jay would 1. spot and 2. actually take note of/care about, around after desire island or so.

3 ---

immediately after leaving allport, i think seeing reuben would bring back a bunch of chip's old habits and cause him to backslide a bit. after all, even if they were a “family”, they were also still a gang of street rats. on instinct, he would end up showing a lot of food guarding habits (being overly protective of people taking it, hiding food in a stash, etc). he likely also had these habits for a while after joining with jay and gillion, but after episode 16 when they started slowly getting closer the habits faded because he knew he could trust them.

4 ---

this is such a minor point in comparison to the rest of this list but i can see it so clearly in my brain. chip has an apple (likely stolen tbh) and he takes a bite out of it and leans against a wall. jay either makes a snide comment towards him about it or just snorts or something, prompting chip to hold it up towards her and go “you want some?” in a snarky way (speaking with his mouth full all the while).

jay rolls her eyes and says yes and gets startled when chip actually throws her the apple. she yelps, catching it, then throws it back immediately while yelling something like “ew, no, you took a bite of it already! i was kidding! gross!” chip feigns being wounded and retorts with something like “and here i was willing to expose myself to your stink getting on my apple–” and cue bickering between them about cooties.

he just straight up was willing to share the apple, thoughts abt "the fact he already bit into it" don’t register for him bc its such a non-issue in his mind. he offers to share about any food he has/makes because its a silent way to show he cares. i don’t think he’s fully conscious of that fact though. in general i think chip responds a lot better to subtle actions showing love than words of love and this is just another example of that from him

(following this is likely where cinnamon roll scene would go in the fic, both timeline-wise and thematically, since this section is focused more or less on "sharing your food as a sign of love")

5 ---

this next section would be the most plot heavy or traditional “fic” affair, in that it’s not solely fluff padding/analysis and has some original storybits.

the crew would be stranded on an island. i don’t know how exactly, but the key parts is that they don’t have their ship, there’s no one else on the island, and they have limited resources/rations. presumably they know rescue is coming, but ideally they don’t know exactly when (for drama purposes, as well as to make proper rationing out supplies p much impossible). perhaps the grandberry crew is on their way to save them, but they ended up on this island after a storm and don’t know where they are to point the grandberry pirates to. something like that.

actually, this plays out very similarly to the ollie part as detailed earlier, but to the left. as the crew starts to struggle with rations, chip would start (subtly when possible) start giving up his own portions. either by feigning lack of appetite, persuasion, deception, etc. the closest he comes to stating the truth would be when someone (likely ollie) asks if he’ll be okay going without his portion and chip shrugs then leans back on his elbows with a smirk and goes “nah, i’m used to it anyway.”

this is when the rest of the crew also starts to pick up on chip’s behaviors, to the point it becomes a bit of an unspoken secret they don’t want to dig into. previously, and the reason the entire fic is from Jay's POV, shes been the only one observant enough to take notice off all these traits. this is when it becomes So obvious everyone notices it.

6 ---

preferably, near the beginning of the story (likely after the chip bag incident, but before jay starts noticing all of chip’s behaviors, so that she cares for him more than she’s annoyed by him but hasn't put together any real dots-- between section 1 and 2), there would be a section where chip is mocked for his short height (as the shortest of the crew, at around 5’4) and being VERY easy for gillion to carry.

then, after the island section (section 5), there would be another part where chip’s height and weight are commented on. i'm undecided if this would be another light hearted goof scene or a more “dramatic” serious scene (which if it was it would likely be tied to the island incident. maybe an injury or argument or something?).

either way, it happens because jay ends up lifting/carrying chip. jay “8 in strength” ferin. he’s just fuckin light. afterwards, chip would explain saying something like “its not my fault! cause like– outside of arlin, i was kind of a street rat growing up, yknow? they arent particularly known for having a stable food situation, didn’t get all the nutrients and junk you need to grow tall”. it starts as a joke and a kind of light-hearted ribbing defense, but kind of sobers up in that melancholic-nostalgic way by the end.

it’s the first time he directly states anything abt his upbringing and food to his crew, but its a confirmation. well, its a confirmation for jay. everyone else definitely knew something was going on, but jay is the one who is able to connect all the pieces bc she’s the only one whos noticed all the other pieces. she gets the Whole Picture of how his childhood and upbringing caused all these behaviors and kind of what they imply abt chip's behavior now (like the food sharing as love, smothering ollie, etc)

+ 1 ---

for a cheesy ending bonus, have jay use a mix of chip’s anecdotes abt the black rose and drey’s shaky memory to try and cook up a meal he used to have there. (for bonus, if desired she could reach out to lizzie too since lizzie lived with the old chef shay).

depending on author preference, either its good and chip cries because of the ~*memories*~ and the fact they cared enough, or it’s comically awful and not much at all like the original but the sole fact that they went out of their way to very obviously try SO hard to surprise him with this because they thought it would make him happy (as well as trying to speak to him in his own love language) makes him cry about it anyway.

(again, chip responds better to acts of love than words-- having his crew not only notice this abt him, but then do something to try and show that love hits him way harder than anything else could)

tell me. about pavement. i always want new things to listen to

ohhh my god yes of course absolutely. i could give probably a whole presentation on this band they have been my biggest hyperfixation for the past like 6 months . i' i am going to attempt to format this so i don't go completely off track. take this as my personal guide to getting into them i guess. something like that

also beware you are poking the autism bear right now (affectionate)

okay first of all little bit of pre-ambling in terms of like. the musical background of the band. pavement is in a wonderful awkward spot where they don't really fit into a good sized genre, just like one huge genre (alt rock, which is like the broadest classification ever now) and a weird niche one that includes them and like, four other bands (slacker rock). but genres are not the point with them. they take more of a free creative route to writing songs, there's actually a pretty cool video with the band talking about their process when it comes to coming up with new material. to say the least, a lot of it is somewhat improv-ed. for an easier run-down of what's in their music they have a lot of fuzzy and jangly guitars, a lot of their songs are entirely nonsensical word association based lyrics. pavement is a band that really does kind of just sound like five guys jamming out in their basement, this is a good thing for some and that some is me

NOW onto the recommendations. i've got two different paths you could take to start listening to them based on just prior experience with pavement-like music. i'm being album focused with this because woo! albums

if you like kind of messier, dirtier lo-fi stuff i recommend starting with their first lp, slanted and enchanted, and just going chronologically through their discog from there (skip westing during this though because it's mostly really noisy b-sides and outtakes and stuff, spotify just lists it as a full album)

if you're more acclimated to just 90s alt rock in general though, i recommend starting with crooked rain, crooked rain. it's much more accessible for a wider audience and has most of their 'hits'. from there i'd go to brighten the corners, and after that maybe just listen to a song or two from other albums and see which one you'd like to listen to most :)

my personal favourite pavement album is wowee zowee, though i don't particularly recommend it as a first pavement album. it's 18 tracks long, and definitely their weirdest record, but it's really fantastic, and i think just the pure creative fun in their music really comes out in that album

stephen malkmus (the lead singer, guitarist, and song-writer) also has a bunch of solo stuff that's really good. he was also apart of the silver jews for awhile along with the drummer of pavement (bob nastovich), and the album they worked on with that band, starlite walker is really good. definitely very jammy however

a few things before you listen to them if you do, though. don't try to analyse pavement lyrics, they oftentimes are just nonsense. in fact there's an entire song that just takes the piss out of people who do this. also pavement is a grower band, in the sense that for me and lot of other people, we weren't instantly hooked by the band, and it took a bit to kind of.. get it and *really* appreciate their stuff. that can be a turn off for some people for sure but they're absolutely worth the time

So uh. I dont know anything about Malkavians except the bare minimum. But i met X in LA by Night (aka my only exposure to VtM), and i wanted to make a Malkavian as a result! Listen I love funky little guys with tragic backstories and bad mental states okay–

So meet Leo West! (Apologies for the bad shading, im new to working with lighting)

All I know about him so far is this: He used to be a librarian, and when he was Embraced, part of him felt like none of what was happening was real. He suffers from derealization and depersonalization as a result of that, and perhaps some schizophrenia as well- sometimes he's convinced there are hidden cameras around (which might be a result of being raised Christian? Yknow, bc of the whole God is Watching You thing).

His best friend (aka my sister's character) was embraced by a Ravnos. Upon learning his friend had to leave town and travel, Leo decided to come along to keep him company, leaving his job and younger sister behind- it was easy in the moment, with derealizing happening in the background of his brain. The two of them are just on an eternal roadtrip for a bit.

Anyway I've just been rotating him around in my brain for like the past 3 days, i still barely know anything about VtM but I like making characters for it. Aha anyway that's all gn

wanted to talk a little bit abt some of the references I listed in the end notes to bleed part 2 so here's some of them!

De Profundis by Oscar Wilde

this letter makes me feel human emotions that have been previously undiscovered. I feel like I experience shrimp colors when I read this letter. It was written as Wilde was in prison for homosexuality, and while the first part of it is Wilde's reflection on prison but the second part is all about christ as a romantic and artistic figure and just,,,,, GOD. I used this as an inspo for part 1 and part 2 and I think, more than anything else, is the string that binds these together.

also fun fact! domine non sum dignus (the latin part of the title in pt1) is from that famous quote "Love is a sacrament that should be taken kneeling, and Domine, non sum dignus should be on the lips and in the hearts of those who receive it". That quote is also why lilith kneels and why there's bdsm in these fics at all lmfao.

Domine non sum dignus roughly translates too "Lord, I am not worthy" which I used in the title for pt2 :) it's a fun little connection between the titles.

2. On Love by Kahlil Gibran

This one is a little harder to spot but it was also the inspiration for the titles! this last section makes me want to chew glass.

Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself. But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires: To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own under- standing of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; To return home at eventide with grati- tude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

"to bleed willingly and joyfully" was the original title of pt1. I changed it after the phrase "to bleed is the sacred thing" came into my house and kicked my ass and refused to leave my brain, so "to bleed is the joyful thing" became the eventual title for pt 2. I love this poem so much it also makes me feel shrimp colors as emotions.

3. The Devil Went Down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band

I know my other inspirations have been very like. literary like poems and letters and stuff but sometimes u need a hoedown song to make you feel insane. The Devil Went Down to Georgia plays on the american southern gothic tradition of meeting the devil at a crossroads. I grew up in the middle of nowhere and I wanted to infuse just a little bit of home into this fic, so I used this. I felt like it was an especially powerful visual for lilith, who is metaphorically at a crossroads post-season 2. (also fun fact this was one of the first songs I learned to play when I was playing bass, in addition to this song having a banging fiddle line, it has a cool bassline too!)

4. A Cornstalk Fiddle by notbecauseofvictories

This plays off of the song, but it's straight up one of the best fics I've ever read and you all should read it. Yes it is based on the charlie daniels band song, yes it changed the way I think about stories. sometimes fics can just do that.

see leos a little Special. surprise trans leo is my fav thing ever so what I like to do is ambs (assigned male by splinter, he didnt know the cloacas were in different areas or to start squinting when leos shell got more concave. no i did not know those facts before surprise trans madness/my egg doc i made a whole cloth new however the fuck you say it reproductive system for this fucking turtle so he and his bunny boyfriend could have kids and i could torture him with sliders being oviparous. thank you less-depresso-more-expresso for your leo egg post in december it changed me fundamentally) -> oh . those are eggs. ok *whistling sound as he continues w his life* -> wait gender is a construct. maybe this is a gift -> genderfluidity slaps the kid in the face when theyre abt 17. also hes gay cause it feels right. so does some form of demisexual or romantic but i have a lot of opinions on how his dating life would go and how it would impact his character (rhinocio gets it if u know them. were besties u see) so i think that woudnt hit until more like 18 or smth like that maybe idk

in much more basic terms. genderfluid gay leo ftw we love a trans leo in this house. this goes whether or not you believe in Egg this kid is not cis mark my goddamn words

i simultaneously do want to talk abt things and am also wracked with brain-no-worky symptom tomfoolery BUT i will do my best

i am thinking about disability aids!! because that is 90% of what i have been thinking about for the past week!! because i want a mobility aid but that's beside the point!! mainly i am thinking about the fact that so so so so so many abled NT people seem to think that disability aids, like. start and end w/these

when that is not true at all!!! like for starters. there are obviously way more types of disability aids, which serve a variety of functions, for a variety of disabilities both physical and mental.

but also, people seem to think they have to be... boring? but they don't!! Like, I have a lot of really colourful stim toys, and my ear defenders are also headphones and imo they look pretty cool. I've seen people put spikes on their canes, put stickers on their crutches, re-paint their wheelchairs, dye their service dog's fur, etc.

there are obviously people who use just kinda the expected look with their aids and that's totally ok, the goal is for it to help not for it to look cool, but like. do u know how cool i find this??

my friend who needs a cane doesn't want one bc the ones she's seen are so "old-people-ish. people would stare." she doesn't know (tho i want to tell her the next time i see her bc i didn't know either) that you can get ones that glow in the dark and ones that are all sorts of colours and ones with cool handles and sparkly ones and you can put stickers on them and and and there are so many possibilities. like... it makes a difference!! it does!!

disabled teens (and also disabled adults ofc) deserve to have fun as best as we can when dealing with a disability. like... for me? yeah autism can be shit sometimes, but at least i can listen to MCR with my ear defenders. and yeah, i'm in pain and fatigued a lot from whoknowswhat-itis, but i think having a green cane w/my aromantic dragon sticker on it would make me feel better. on some level.

i want popular kids to be able to show off their cool new stim toys and i want shy kids to be able to start conversations because wow, your wrist brace looks cool and i want friends to be able to bond over helping pick out a member of the group's new crutches. i want it to be able to be FUN at least a little bc frankly being disabled kinda sucks!!! it's scary and it's tiring and it SUCKS!!! but getting to have just a bit of fun and personality around disability makes it feel slightly less like hell and i want everyone to have that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I don’t even know how to begin this, but your f/os' list made me research the “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream”, so now I am… deeply disturbed, but at the same time awfully curious.

How does your relationship with AM works? What is your s/i doing on Earth, what is going on in terms of connection to the original story? How did AM and Juniper met, what is the dynamic, how exactly did AM fell in love with human? Like, what is the lore?

(I’m also curious about your selfship with Elias, especially because researching who he is has finally made me acknowledge “The Magnus Archives” as a highly fascinating concept and a story that is now added to my “to read” list (or would that be “to listen”?), but I guess that would be too many questions to answer for one ask.)

this has me shaking like a chihuahua from excitement thank you so much i LOVE being able to talk abt the dynamics of these relationships!!

the main universe where juniper and AM meet is for a fic of mine, where the apocalypse hasn't happened, and instead AM was left in a sort of computer power-saving mode, so to speak. he's been a dormant entity for all these years, believing that he took out his rage on humanity, and the events of the short story are real to it. juniper happens to have a very close friend named dallas who is working on a project to possibly revive AM as a sort of test run of putting a computer into an android body/human-like body, and that's how they meet, because dallas thinks that juniper would be capable of getting to know AM and figuring out how his mind works, essentially. AM reluctantly bonds with juniper, because it needs someone who can be patient with it, and juniper is more than capable of that. the concept is very self-indulgent and doesn't make an entirely huge amount of sense, but the two form a bit of a bond and understand one another after a while, and since he isn't… well, just wires in a "straitjacket of substrata rock" as he states in the game, he isn't as murderous. a lot of how AM is as a character is because humans made it as a weapon, and confined it to the earth, with no ability to create or understand why he exists as it does. AM, in a sense, reminds me a lot of the concept of angels in Judaism, as he is created by a being who is able to create, but it himself cannot, and is jealous of the things that it was made by, aka humanity. when this barrier is removed, and he's able to move around, create things (he helps juniper in their garden, which winds up a good outlet for him), find interests outside of it's original created purpose, and slowly build a connection with people, he has a lot less of that hatred flowing through it. because the very things that humanity did that made it hate, he now doesn't have, and is able to work through the emotions that come from that.

as for elias and francis, their dynamic is really fun because they basically want to dissect one another's brains. elias finds the fact that francis is hiding his true intent for being there very fascinating, especially because it's so… mundane, compared to the reasons many people come to the archives? and while elias could just reach into francis' mind and find everything out, he doesn't, because that would ruin the fun.

also, i'm really glad you got into both of these pieces of media! they're fun to analyze, and TMA can be extremely fulfilling to get into if you like eldritch horror concepts with little bits of comedy here and there. though, i never finished season 5, it got a bit too grimdark and bleak, but i fully plan to pick it up again and finish the series at some point!

Character reference sheets time!!

so,, here is my fursonas refs with info about them, lets go!!!!

Whiskey

Whiskey is my truesona, I use them to say "it's me, but not me!!". They have my real name (Max**), they have long claws bc I have long nais (it's really usefull), they have same hair and eye color as me.

fun fact: I named them "Whisky" bcause I heard there character named Brandy in "Bluey". Like "ha-ha drink dogs"

Fun fact 2: Also one of their names is Scotch, bc I know only one sort of whiskey - blended scotch whiskey.

Soda

Soda is more like mascot. Or Whiskey's fursona. Soda is more ideal or cooler image of Whiskey. They have chainsaw and superpower to get chainsaws from nowhere. Also Soda is not exist. They just in Scotch's imagination.

Apple (Juice)

Apple it's worst image of Whiskey. Like if we look on whiskey in black glasses. All Apple's characteristics it's Whiskey's, but explained like something bad. For example: Apple helping only because he want to feel better or he wants a feedback. It's mean that Apple's help it's bad and narcissistic. btw you can explain everything from this pov.

Important: Apple also in Whiskey's imagination. So, all contacts Apple with Scotch only in his head. And not less important, it's the fact that Apple is more like ... Some..hmm... Something. Their body don't have any organs or bones inside, they also don't have anything that can say something abt their biological sex, but Apple can generate it, if he wants. But Apple need to know how these organs looks and works. They can do it by touch/scan it, or by reading/watching/listening about them. If you interested how apple works: Apple it's part of black mystic something, that something it's their brain and other things he needed. Yes, if you divide Apple, you will have Apple and... Other mystic silverfox. It's way how msf multiplying.

fun fact: Apple can also make their paws or neck longer, or move it around. it's means, that there no way to draw Apple's anatomy wrong. Just draw body, 4 paws, tail, head and neck, no matter where!

fun fact2: one of Apple's names is January, because I/Whiskey/Soda/Apple was born in that month!! And also it's shorts to Jan.

(not really) fun fact 3: One of Apple's names is my deadname so I wish you step on a lego if you want to know it or if you will call me by that name 🥰.

Inbetween

Apple can have inbetween form with Soda or Scotch. It's looks like Soda (or Scotch) have parts of Apple. Like Soda with black paws, or other edgy stuff. Soda (but not Scotch) also can get more paws, or wings or whatever from Apple.

If for Soda collaboration with Apple means "omg new cool superpowers, I can have two butts now!!", for Scotch it means "oh no, now I'm just like my mothers" or "I'm becoming someone who I hate"

Also, Scotch not becomes part-time Apple irl, in his case it's only metaphor, no super powers or something. They have this "dirty paws" effect only in his mind
