Being inhuman has its perks. Not many but a few. Immortality is pretty cool. But in Vashs case, hanging out with the humans has brought upon a strange, problem, when it comes to physical touch.

At first, Vash had never heard of tickling or being ticklish. Why would he when everyone has only ever wanted to kill him? Until he met Meryl and Millie. One drunken party had led to a cuddle pile where the two females decided to attack the defenceless male, leading to the discovery. He is, in fact, very ticklish.

He is ticklish absolutely everywhere. Luckily, his huge coat and armour protect him most of the time. You'll have to catch him out of uniform to make him squeal.

Saying catch isn't really right, though. He loves being tickled and won't try to avoid an attack if he sees it coming. Like an obedient pup, he'll lay there and take it. Despite his wriggling, he does his best not to get away or stop those scribbling fingers.

His laugh is wonderful. Bright, loud, full of life. And he's very chatty whilst being wrecked. Being his usual goofy self, he'll say the most random things between his laughter.

"H-Hehey! Ahaha! Gohod I could reheheally go for a snAHAHACK rigihight now! Aha! Hah... Aww, why you stop?"

Brat. Brat. Bratty brat brat. Big playful goob. If he wants tickles, he'll follow you around all day until he gets them. Even if it means tickling you first to get a response, he'll do it. He'll poke you. Scare you. Steal a snack. Even throw some playful cheesy flirting your way.

His favourite are reward tickles.

"Didn't I do a good job taking care of those bandits? Come oooon, you know what to do~" He'd say, sprawling happily over your lap.

Praise him. Tell him how cute he is. It's the only time you might be able to fluster him instead of the other way round. If you manage to accomplish this, he'll cover his ears, trying to hide how red they go.

Drunk Vash tickles? Yes. His gangly limbs are so uncoordinated that he'll just flop around like a wet noodle. Hiccuping and snorting happily. Wolfwood takes full advantage of this as he's usually on the receiving end of tickles~

His most sensitive areas are his knees, ribs, and underarms. He also loves it when you tickle his palm. Having only one real hand means the one he's got needs extra love. The teddybear song is a personal favourite of his. Since he's a big kid, really.

Basically, he loves being tickled. Any time. Any place. For any reason. Laughter is so important to him. How could he not crave the sensation?

Ler:

Run. Just run. This man is a menace. Ever heard of the tickle monster? This guy gives him nightmares. In the best possible way.

For whatever reason, you look down in the dumps, or maybe you just committed the unspeakable SIN of eating his last doughnut. Vash is gonna getcha~

He'll chase you round all day, laughing with you as he puts on his 'villain' voice, cooing and teasing as he makes grabby hands at you as you try to flee.

"I'm gonna getcha~!"

"Mwahaha! You think you can escape the claws of Vash the humanoid Typhoon!? Nae! You will suffer at my hand, Mortaaaal!"

"Wow, you're quick! What's got you so frantic, I wonder? Haha!"

Once he catches you, it's over. He'll use his mechanic arm to hold your wrists, allowing his free hand to do the work.

He's a skitterer. Spider fingers are his favourites since they make his victims giggle the most. Changing spots every couple of seconds to keep you wriggling.

The sharpshooter had also invented his own adorable little game! He calls it 'Don't shoot'.

The ler surprises the Lee, aiming finger guns at them and calling 'Hands up!' The Lee has to respond quick as they can with 'Don't shoot!' Whilst throwing theirs hands up. If they're quick enough, the ler, Vash, approaches with his finger guns, circling and teasing the victim with anticipation. Faking a prod or two. The victim has to not flinch or giggle or they get 'shot' or rather, bombarded with tickly pokes.

Vash, being Vash, always makes the sound effects as he's poking you. "Pew! Pew! Pew! Should have stayed still, bandit!" He also loves being on the receiving end of this game, always losing, curling up as soon as those fingers get too close.

He's so gentle as a ler. Teasy and bubbly as always. He'll pull you into a hug, wriggling his fingers into your sides, blowing raspberries on your neck. He's a big guy, holding you still isn't difficult.

"Ah, Mon précieux, what a lovely singing voice you posesse~"

"A snort!? For me!? Oh my gosh, do it again!"

"Huh? Don't say tickle? Why shouldn't I say tickle? Is tickle a bad word? Is ticklish a bad word, too? What about tickled? Oh gosh, I'm saying all these awful tickly words! Oh well, I've sinned now, might as well go all out~ Tickle, tickle, tickle!"

Once he's tired you out, he'll hold you close to him, chuckling quietly at how flustered you are as he pets your hair. He'll share a doughnut if he feels he's been particularly mean~ Lucky you!

tbh i didn’t say it bc of me. i’ve been pretty lucky with the secret santas i’ve got (bc i’ve never participated in a secret valentine before) but it seems that my luck persists :)

omg yeah it sounds dark but i promise it isn’t used for bad things! in my country we honour our dead around the end of october and the beginning of november. we set our homes to welcome our dead relatives (in spirit obviously 😭) and we make what it used to be their favourite food and drinks. cempasúchitl (the flower) is used bc of its characteristic smell so the spirits know where to go. we also use candles to guide them to the right place. it’s a very important tradition and it’s just a form of remember our relatives. and now after writing all of that i realise that i could’ve just said “like the movie Coco” 😅 but yeah, basically that.

could you break it down how boyfriends could be from louis point of view?!

So when I started writing this post I was still unsure about the interpretation of this song and I was just willing to try to break it down like the anon asked for so we could maybe analyse this together and have some insights. But after writing everything I 100% think *the boyfriend* in the song is Harry and not the other way around. If someone is looking for a more straight forward analysis there's this post, I think everything is very self explanatory about it. But here, I tried to make sense of the use of the pronouns and also a lot of parallels.

So we have three different pronouns here: THEY, HE/HIM, YOU. It's all referring to two different people in the song, one of them is *the* boyfriend in question, in this case being referred to THEY/HIM/HE, and YOU is the subject. And based on that concept, IMO this is what the song is telling us:

The boyfriend (everything highlighted in yellow) = he doesn't open up and doesn't really tell what he's thinking, causing some misunderstandings (so, a lot of communication issues), he uses drinking as a coping mechanism, he knows how to get under the subject's skin, there are lies and pretending involved.

The subject (everything highlighted in red) = feels alone and at times doesn't feel close to the boyfriend (because of the communication issues), feels like a fool and in some sort of cycle, always coming back to loving the boyfriend and to that situation where they're pretending/daydreaming/lying (probably about things being *fine*).

The question is: Is Harry the boyfriend? Is Harry the subject? Is he both? Is he neither (and just writing from a point of view where he's not actively participating)? I don't have the definitive answer for that lol just my interpretation. I think Harry is great at that, he hands us his songs with barely any context and let us to make whatever we - individually - want out of it. The most obvious interpretation here is that he's alluding to boyfriends (or boyfriend) he had/have, or that he's simply shitting on boyfriends without necessarily being one of the people in the song (I'm assuming this is the no-homo-please interpretation for most people btw)

HOWEVER when we look back at Harry's songwriting and the context of other songs, for me, it makes more sense if Harry is the boyfriend. First of all, because his songwriting is almost always about himself rather than about other people, even in songs of pure adoration and devotion for someone like Adore You, Golden, Sweet Creature, he always adds a layer of complexity to it that are a lot about his feelings towards that certain someone. So here's a great post about Harry and his self-critical lyrics.

And then when we look at it from the subject POV (in this case, Louis, of course).... LOL. Defenceless and Boyfriends are literally the same song, guys. I really hope you all can understand the way I tried to draw the parallels on this, it was the easiest way for me to visualize it god I hope I don't sound crazy with this

+ Also the parallel with Half the World Away (an unreleased One Direction song written by Harry): And I started drinking. I don't know half of what I'm thinking. Those are basically the same words he's using to describe the boyfriend in the song.

Highlighted in orange: Harry being selfish, jealous, proud (they're saying it, not me, sorry harry baby you're doing great) having trouble communicating and letting his "walls" down, struggling with coping mechanism.

Highlighted in green: Louis having less problems with communication, more willing to be open and vulnerable, always coming back (like it's a habit).

Highlighted in purple: lies and pretending, they can only be themselves when they're alone (both of them use references to be in bed on that part), like they're living in a daydream because what they have it's not "real".

This is not what I think about Harry and Louis or whatever their dynamics are, and how they deal with their issues and cracks is a completely different discussion and quite honestly, not my problem. I'm just trying to interpret the song and draw parallels with what we have.

Those are the parallels and why the initial concept that the boyfriend in the song is actually himself makes more sense to me. You can take that and make whatever you want out of it. If you think the boyfriend is Louis or whatever other interpretation, good for you, I don't think you're wrong. There's no such thing as being wrong about an interpretation, don't let anyone tell you what something means when you have a different perspective. But please just make sure to share that on your own blog like I'm sharing my interpretation of it on mine.

I rarely keep my psds or keep record of my process but luckily I saved the ones for these edits. Depending on how lazy I am it takes me between 2 hours and a week to finish a full set.

I don’t exactly remember each step but here are layer by layer breakdowns of the final product of the first gif i made for each set. Explanation down below

I chose not to question the difference in quality between these two btw.

Planning i rarely plan tbh i just go with where the editing takes me with the first gif. bc once i have the first gif down it’s just a matter of making the others match to have a cohesive set.

Choosing the clips to gif + lyrics

Since these two gifsets are song based it was relatively easy to choose the clips because I’ve identified specific shots before that would fit a certain lyric.

For Miss You I used clips from the mv, the royal variety performance  and the x factor performance. + maybe i miss you

For Defenceless I used clips from wmi mv, miss you mv and walls mv. + 1st verse.

Making the gifs

I don’t want to turn this into a giffing tutorial rip, but i basically follow a very basic gifmaking routine and use 2 actions for loading and sharpening. (most of the giffing guides i based mine on can be found here.

But it goes: loading > cropping > sharpening > base colouring.

For refence, I either use PS CS5 or PS CS6. For Miss You: 540x300 px | For Defenceless: 540x400px Sharpening settings: smart sharpen twice (500/0.4 + 10/10) + gaussian blur (blending 30% opacity)

The base colouring is mostly there to brighten and colour correct the gif. For that I mainly use curves, levels, colour balance, selective color and vibrance.

For particularly dark shots I use a trick I learned from @stardustony using white color fills and b&w gradient map.

Colouring-Colouring This is where the fun begins.

Sometimes before even beginning I have a dominant and accent colour in mind, but more often than not the final result is very different from the first round lmao. I use multiple layers of selective colours to get everything to match and get what I want + different blending modes. For Miss You i knew I wanted blue and red/orange, so it was a matter of bringing out the cyans and reds of the scenes without making it too grainy. For Defenceless, the colour choices were based on the colours Nyx associated with the song, in this case pastels, blue, pink and yellow/beige. + Additional step for this gif because it was an experiment: i added an empty layer at some point, painted on it with big brushes of blue and peach, then set it to substract to get that rainbow-ish effect on the water.

Adding text

I choose the fonts:

For Miss You --> Gobold Bold (regular) 18pt/36pt

For Defenceless --> Kiona 7pt, Boiling Demo 18pt, Amalia 36pt

Then I add inner + outer shadows to the text.

Then for colours I usually just add two layers with random colour gradients as clipping marks on each text box OR change the font colour and play around with blending modes

Then placement, depends on the vibes lbr

The boxes

Shape > Rectangle Tool (make the box, choose size, stroke, fill) For Miss You : we have a dashed box thingie going on + the b&w/colour separation For Defenceless: the box lines are lyrics hehe, i actually forgot how to do it, but it involves making the text follow the path of the lines of the box using the direction selection tool.

Exporting

Save for Web (Alt + Ctrl + Shift + S) Selective or Adaptative, Pattern, Bicubic

Drafting

To check if the gifs are cohesive, arrange placements and check if the colouring is ok on different devices. I also send the links to friends to see if it’s ok.To add caption (html + edit fiddle)

To add tags: generic tags for louis edits + user tags + tag i use for my edits (usually louis tomlinson, louisupdates, tracksintheam, belletracks, *mine)

It’s also a hack to avoid no showing up in the tags.

Posting

I either let the gifset rot for weeks before I post it, or post it right away because I can. Some people schedule for specific hours for maximum engagement. I only schedule self-reblogs for after posting, 12 hours after, then 9pm my time, then 3am.

Bonus: camping in the notes of my own gifsets for the two first days.

ok LISTEN i know no one cares about this but i just listened to walls (the album) for the first time this morning and boiiii do i have some thoughts

(i didn't listen to any of the unreleased tracks beforehand btw)

kill my mind: to be honest, this is the only song on the album that i would probably skip if it came on shuffle. i didn't really vibe with it when it first came out either, it's just a bit busy for me, but i think it's good as an opener because it has so much power. it's also pretty reminiscent of uan one direction to me for some reason

don't let it break your heart: this!!!!!! this is probably my favorite song he released beforehand, the vocals, the instrumental, the lyrics, everything just fits so well and i'm so proud of him 😭😭

two of us: it's hard to listen to this without crying because firstly this reminds me of my dead grandparents but also he has just been through so much and i genuinely feel for him. it's terrible enough losing a loved one but doing it twice in the span of like two years while having the eyes of the entire world on you must be absolutely horrific

we made it: for some reason i kind of skipped over this when it first came out, i only listened to it like twice but this slaps so hard what the fuck?? i love the rhythm of his voice here (i don't know music terms lol) and also the little 'yeah yeah yeah' in the chorus..... some good shit 👌🏻

too young: this shit is so soft what the hell.... also his voice,, i will beat the next person up who says that louis is the weakest of the 1d boys (vocally). i mean, he might not be as versatile as harry or zayn but i always loved his voice because it's just so soft and unique and hearing it on this track is just.... *chef's kiss*
