Also thank you thank you my motivation for working on fanfictions is knowing I have given someone something they wanted to read. It’s my pride and currently second official hobby. Figure collecting comes first. I’m working on many fics right now… My Ruggie one… The Azul book I’m still working on but I’ve started to feel guilty towards the reader.

The whiplash of Ruggie smut and him being all over you like honey on toast is such a drastic comparison to Azul having you bend and twist in his palm against your will. Both sexy… For me at least. I am fish nerd but have only really heard of those that live above ground in lakes/oceans/rivers. Are there any cool cave dwelling ones I should know about?

oh sure! cavefish are pretty under-researched (understandable considering their extreme habitats) but there are a few cool ones that stand out (at least to me lol).

first off i want to mention that most cavefish are incredibly adapted for their respective ecosystems, so they tend to differ wildly from each other and generally dont do well when theyre removed from their habitats

ok! so! starting with the mexican tetra! interestingly enough, its not actually its own species of cavefish. it has a normal form AND a cave form. i wanted to mention it because the wikipedia article made me laugh

the cave version is cooler tho dont worry! theyre pink! sort of. they have some pinkish pigment, which is interesting considering usually theyd just lose all color. hm well the normal form is kinda just grey already. theyre spicing it up! theyve also been observed to have either dimished or completely missing eyes. normal cave dweller stuff, but still worth mentioning.

second off we have the waterfall climbing cave fish. its also called the cave angel fish which is REALLY cute and brings up some nice mental images :)

it lives in mae hong son province in a few different cave systems (specifically karsts). its the only one of its kind and is adapted to (unsurprisingly) cling onto and climb the waterfalls that it lives in! its been observed to walk like a tetrapod on its legs and has a well developed pelvic girdle (think similar to how tiktaalik wouldve walked)

this one is one of my favorite. it looks so weird and alien and its name is really cool lol.

and lastly i wanted to talk about the devil’s hole pupfish! probably one of the most popular cavefish around because of the conservation efforts around it. agricultural systems were destroying its singular spawning ground and there was a whole court case on protecting it. attempts at making other spawning grounds werent working out well because it was so well adapted to it’s environment that it would simply die whenever they tried removing some of them. nowadays the hole they all live in is nationally protected.

can you tell me a little bit more about the world this takes place in?

So here's the thing. I haven't quite thought of where their world is (like if it's their own or somewhere in a world already), but! Me and my friend touched on the idea of having other mythical ppl creatures (like dragon ppl and wolf ppl), and I think we're keeping it around.

If that is the case, the Deerlings place is all just Cherry Blossom trees. In the heart of the Cherry Blossom forest (I can't remember or find what it's called so bear with me here) is this huge cherry tree I think we called “Grand Cherry Tree” or smth like that. I rlly tried to find it 💔💔

I also have this whole entire section for their culture. I'll make a post that's transferring all the information from the doc to here, it'd be too much to summarize and explain and you'd be able to get a lot more elaboration on the questions I've been answering

I THINK that's everything.. if not, as j said, it'll be in the post I eventually make that has all of the info in depth (like, EXTREMELY in depth. 3k words in depth.)
