Heart by fawn_writes || rated T || 1/1 || 663 words - man its so good. short and sweet. jake comes by to witness the construction of hals new body while also reminiscing about the times he fought brobot and his untimely demise. a good sparkling of body worship. "Everything will be normal. They’ll manage to keep it normal. After all, Jake has enough of his own heart to share." - fuck, that lines so effervescent.

What he needs by fawn_writes || rated M || 1/1 || 1259 words - another banger from the same author. they be doing the horizontal tango, but nothings too graphic. healthy serving of body worship from jakes perspective, as well as his internal struggle with his apparent robotic attraction.

Dead Weight by squirtgunplay || rated M || 5/9 || 27337 words - oh that fic. oh my god. love me some zombie apocalypse au with existential horror sprinkled on top. hal and dirk are twins but with a twist in this one. theres mystery. theres injuries that make you incapable of moving around. theres ship of theseus discussion. its nourishing. its beautiful. jake and hals banter in this one is fucking amazing, and the author captures their characters so well. the relationship between hal and dirk is also very fucking good and heartwrenching and just ugh. stellar writing, the forth wall break made me laugh out loud, hal gets called a security camera (derogatory). theres graphic depictions of violence, so beware of the tags.

Tennessee Whiskey & You by MistLaFey || rated T || 5/? || 12217 words - major character death and graphic depictions of violence tagged, so beware and read the tags. no-sburb au. dirk fucking dies (its in the fic description so i dont feel like its a spoiler). beautiful exploration of grief, unhealthy coping mechanisms and trying to get back into the normal life when theres a big part of it suddenly missing. hal and dirk are twins. jake is not doing well. hal is also not doing well, but pretending he is. its heartbreaking and some scenes made my chest hurt. very good fic and i dont understand why it doesnt get more love. it deserves it. go read it, even just for the funeral scene, i got teary-eyed over it.

seconds by squirtgunplay || rated E || 2/2 || 18698 words - graphic depictions of violence and its no joke, presidential alert the girls are fightinnn!! but its also so funny and the authors so funny and its also really hot! no sburb au, hals a human and dirks twin. he gets kidnapped by a craigslist hitman jake who mistakes him for dirk. the banter is top game in this one. hal cant keep his mouth shut even in life or death situation. jakes a dork, but hes a deadly dork, and also cant keep his mouth shut about his personal problems. theres fistfighting and knifethrowing and hal gets a weapon put to his head at least twice and he thinks its pretty damn hot. theres banging in second chapter. what more can i say to sell you on this one. the characters are on point, the action is tense but its also written in a cheeky, fun way, smut is good, a npc gets unsubscribed from life. amazing fic, 10/10, will read it again.

I Think Therefore I AR by Taxi_Boy || rated T || 25/? || 30417 words - im saving the best for last. major character death. hal has to start the game and get his friends into the medium while dirk is missing, while also pretending to be dirk as to not raise their suspicions. im not going to say anymore about the plot, you just have to go and read the fic. genuinely my favourite jakehal - and homestuck in general - fic of all time. i love caliborn in this one. i cant wait to see what the author has cooked up for us in the future. its plainly genious.

Nai'O: I feel like he's the sweetest boi ever. I'm both like, "He deserves better than Kenyatta" and "Kenyatta is good for him." Perhaps the most wholesome NPC

Najuma: I also want to be the cool older sister and/or cool aunt that she never had. This kid is a badass and smart as hell. I wish my friendship with her was better already

Reth: This man. I love him. I'm not sure if it's platonic or romantic yet. All I know is he's one of my favourite NPCs to talk to. He's funny, he's flirty, he's got a Tragic Backstory™️. I'm here for this soup boi whether he wants it or not

Sifuu: Two words: Bad. Ass. It's a crime that we can't romance her. I really want to ask her to be my Shepp, but I'm not sure it's a good fit

Tamala: I'm sorry, Tamala besties, but I just don't like her 😭 I really wanted to like her so bad, but her aggressive flirting paired with her unwillingness to consider me a friend/equal just rubs me the wrong way

Tish: Absolutely beautiful person. I want to be her bffl. That is all

Zeki: Crime Cat, my beloved. He is the most entertaining Shepp option (imo). He's got an eye patch, a gold tooth, and shady practices. I find him amusing. I want him to like me. Share his (dubiously acquired) riches with me. Please accept me into the black market. I won't tell, but I can't promise I'll participate (I probably will 👀)

Top 20 RotE characters!

My final piece of ranking for this series!

There will be some spoilers in this!

20. Nettle

- If there’s one thing I love, it’s difficult women. Nettle is as harsh as her name suggests. I love young Nettle with her dream magic and how completely kind she is to Thick. And I love older Nettle, who doesn’t mind hurting Fitz’s feeling for Bee’s benefit. She is unforgiving and always strives to do what she thinks is best - even if she doesn’t always know what’s best.

19. Thymara

- Definitely my favourite Rain Wild character. She had my favourite POV in those books as well. I liked how her story paralleled Sintara’s, with her dragon features becoming more beautiful, getting her wings, and her determination to be her own woman. I didn’t love that she ended up with Tats and ended up having a kid with him, but again, it mirrored Sintara’s mating with Mercor.

18. Starling Birdsong

- are we seeing a theme? Starling is so great because she simply does not care if people like her personality. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, and she got her song. The way she destroyed Fitz in Golden Fool was a peak moment in this series. And something i love so much is that no matter how much Fitz complains about her or thinks she’s annoying, he can’t help but like her.

17. Chade Fallstar

- I hate him, I love him, he’s the worst, he’s the best. I’ve said this before - I have complicated feelings about Chade but regardless, they are strong feelings. Ngl, I misjudged his age and thought he was about 80 in the first book so when he made it to the last book?? Incredible. His death got me in a way that I really didn’t expect it to.

16. Dutiful Farseer

- My boy! He had some great development from the most fifteen year old boy ever, to a genuinely good king. I loved his dynamic with Fitz in Fool's Errand. It was really on sight with those two and it was entertaining the entire time.

15. Selden Vestrit

- I saw someone say once that Selden felt like a random npc who managed to get a nat20 on charisma. He's great in Ship of Destiny, and fantastic in the Rain Wild Chronicles. His bond with Chassim was unexpected but so so lovely.

14. Molly Chandler

- I understand why people don't like her. Her character gets in the way of Fitzloved. Soz guys, but I've seen too many female characters get hate because fans were rooting for a mlm ship. Don't get me wrong, its frustrating but Molly never inserts herself in Fitz's life. It the other way around. I think people don't like her less because of who she is and more because of what she represents. She's a simple life, and is the face of Fitz's delusion. But I love her. She's down to earth, she's rough around the edges, she's a simple gal who wants a simple life.

13. Etta

- Etta!!! From a Divvytown prostitute to Queen of the Pirate Isles??? Insane, incredible, showstopping. One thing that I absolutely love about her that I think is overlooked is that, despite how much Kennit was pushing for it and how much Wintrow was pining for her, it did not even cross her mind to get with this 15 year old boy. Kennit is all like 'teach the boys your… skills.' and she's like, ah yes, I will teach him how to use knives. Queen behaviour.

12. Paragon

- Everyone's favourite murderous boat! His dynamic with Amber is great, and his friendship with Brashen is really underrated! He goes from being a grumpy old man to a bratty little boy in seconds (hmmm maybe the similarities between he and Fitz go past the face). He's unpredictable and he will kill again!

11. Althea Vestrit

- I fell in love with her immediately. She's rude to Kyle and then spends the next two weeks sleeping on the floor so she can be closer to Vivacia. She had my heart from the get go. Her ending will always leave a bitter taste in my mouth but none of it is her fault. She starts off a little immature and really grows into a woman worthy of captaining her own ship.

10. Wintrow Haven

- Ship of Magic!Wintrow has my entire heart. He frustrates me to no end with how he treats Vivacia but his arc is insane. He's generally an honourable guy. He frees the slaves and aids in the overthrowing of his father. He becomes a competent sailor and always shows Etta kindness. And despite his corruption by Kennit, he retains his moral compass and grows to be a good guy. I choose to ignore him in Ship of Destiny (just like Robin Hobb oops-) because I don't know who that man is :)

9. Malta Vestrit

- Without a doubt the best Liveships character. She has some of the best development I've ever seen. She's really the Amy March of Bingtown. She's self-centred, annoying, and that girlllllll. I love her so much. She's so clever and achieves so much.

8. Verity Farseer

- MY KING! treated Fitz like a human being which, in this book, is a step up from how most people treat him - especially when he's a boy. He's always a friendly face, even when he's so bogged down by defending the entirety of the Six Duchies with no thanks. He loved very honestly and had great respect for people who deserved it. And in the end, he made the ultimate sacrifice for his people for his folk.

7. Bee Farseer

- She's just as much my daughter as she is Molly's, Fitz's, Nighteyes', and Beloved's. She won me over so quickly, and just when I thought I couldn't love her more, she started biting. I hope one day we see more of her!

6. LadyPatience

- You should have been mine???????? Such a fun, unapologetic character. She is so herself. I feel so seen by her constant, ever-changing hobbies and messy room. She and Lacey are the duo of the century.

5. Burrich

- When I read a book and I fancy a character, I tend to stay loyal to that character. I can love all of the characters, but I only love one. I took one look at Burrich and knew i'd found my man. His parenting skills were questionable at time, but he was doing what he thought was right. He gave up his life to raise Chivalry's son. He stepped up and took care of Molly with no expectations. He raised Nettle like she was his own. Just a solid, good man.

4. Nighteyes

- The best parent in this whole series. He's sarcastic, he's clever, and he's got such an entertaining dry sense of humour. He's a great influence on Fitz and he isn't afraid to call him out. The Wit is such a fantastic aspect of this series and the wit-bond that Fitz and Nighteyes share is so so beautiful.

3. Kettricken

My Queen. I haven't felt this strongly about a character in a long time. Always a beacon of honour in a story of political intrigue, secrets, and betrayal. They really lucked out with this arranged marriage. Not a single person in this story deserved her.

2. Beloved

- Fool, Amber, Lord Golden, Beloved. What a character. every facet of this character is so interesting and deep and beautiful. Amber was THE character in Liveships, the Fool was THE character in Farseer, Beloved with THE character in Tawny Man. THE CHARACTER OF ALL TIME.

- You get it.

Warning: I write Yuu/reader with she/her pronouns

In case it isn’t obvious, ‘Found Family’ is one of my favourite tropes in fiction. I love everything about it.

As someone who’s favourite animes include Haikyuu and Assassination Classroom, I’d love to hear more about Yuu/reader’s relationship with her fellow first years - and by that I mean the NPCs that are in her class.

I once made a post about how when she dates a Dorm Leader, she basically become’s the dorm’s mother/darling angel who they would protect with their dying breath and can do no wrong ever where all of the NPCs love her but I always thought that she’d have a closer relationship with her fellow first years because 1) they’re the same age as her and they’re also new to the school so it would be easier to connect with them and 2) she spends more time with them so it would be easier to form a relationship with them.

Like, I know that Ace + Deuce + Yuu/Reader (+ Grim) are Ride-or-Die-BFFs-Do-Not-Separate but it would be cool to see Yuu being her own person and forming friendships with her fellow first years by either being table buddies for a lesson or they’re working on a group project or they’re helping each other out with something - and the NPC is friendly with her not because she’s got connections with his dorm leader but because she’s a genuinely cool person to be around.

I just think that it would make sense for her to feel close to her fellow first years and they would be the easiest to make friends with. It would be so wholesome for her to have these sweet platonic friendships in this strange magical world.

It would be so cool to see her walk into Octavinelle and the Trio think that she’s here to spend time with them only for her to cheerfully say that she’s going to hang out with her friend Tristan and they’re like ‘Octavinelle Student C?!’ or for the Riddle, Trey and Cater to just watch in confusion as Yuu is happily chatting away with some of the Heartslabyul first years during a croquet match.

I did have this idea where all of the first years go on a camping trip as a school outing and I just thought of other school trips they could do together (since trips are usually done by year groups).

I just think that it would be cool for her to have some friendly faces she could rely on if she ever needed assistance and the main cast aren’t available.

neil - tony crynight's fnaf animation series which i dont entirely remember the plot of but i'll try to describe. so basically its fake mangle lore to say that mangle is the way they are (all broken and shit) because Mangle kissed Foxy and Chica got jealous so she took a Machete to Mangle to Mangled them. and then the gang tries to save mangle or whatever

todd - fluffle puff, someones pink fluffy mlp oc who was in lesbians with chrysalis (i think thats her name, i never watched mlp). mosy notably known for the animation to pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows. also the creator is a pedophile i think

charlie - sorrow tv and his entire existence. sorrow tv was a youtuber who made videos reading out reddit videos in silly voices. there was a whole posse of youtubers who did this, and he was the most popular just bc his voice acting was rly good. i still watch him every couple months even tho he hasnt posted since 2021.

cameron - does bruno mars is gay? i think about cameron man door hand hook car door every day, so i obviously need to point to my third favourite silly trying to be serious sentence. most ppl know this from game grumps but im not linking a game grumps video on here. rumour come out!

knox - venturiantale, the youtube channel usually consisting of 4? siblings playing gmod together usually. the channel itself was ran by this guy named jordan i think? and his siblings has their own channels. i knew them best for their fnaf gmod videos and their fanmail videos. turns out they were all very christian? and the whole family was abusive and way deep into said christianity if i remember correctly, one of the siblings who left first made a video on it. the venturiantale channel hasnt posted in like 2 yrs and the slow death was kinda sad to see bc he (jordan) blamed it all on The Algorithm.

meeks - that one nagito komaeda kinnie back in Whenever it was cutting off their finger to. i guess prove that they were a nagito kinnie frfr? if u dont know danganronpa lore then nagito gets his hand cut off and replaced with junko enoshima's hand because sheeeee got... executed? i wont lie i dont remember this part of the games story sorry. but essentially that one person was like I Gotta Do That........ anyway im jk the audio was faked and nothing actually happened + the person is fine LAWL

pitts - the key of awesome's parody of tiktok by kesha called glitter puke. theres no lore to this the key of awesome is / was ? a silly little song parody channel. this video was made in 2010 and it kinda shows in some moments but other than that it holds up. just checked and the key of awesome is Not still going, it ended 6 years ago and the last video was actually rly good and genuine

keating - onma island is buried a treasure chest. ok so basically mr beast made a video talking abt a private island and he buried. a treasure chest for a viewer to find. during the video he said "on my island is buried a treasure chest" but it sounded like "onma" which this one youtuber (pinely) found rly funny. it became an inside joke with his friends (one of whom got a tattoo) which then became a lowkey meme. mr beast even tweeted it so. good lord thats a lot of links sorry there isnt a know your meme page or anything

chris - i dont have any links for this one sorry, im just gonna tell the story and u have to believe me when i say i swear it happened (its very a believable fandom story im sure you will). so back when the genshin impact was still in its fairly early days (late 2020-early 2021) the phrase "hear me out" to refer to characters n stuff started becoming popular I THINK at the same time. so people in the genshin fandom were like hear me out with increasingly more heinous shit. started with characters, then npcs, then enemies, then bosses, then weapons, the stamina bar at one point, etc. a lot of these were jokes or straight up bait but back then (maybe now too - i havent been part of the genshin fandom for a LONG time) people took bait far more often than they didnt. so it became a "genshin fandom bad" gotcha to point out That One stamina bar post.

ginny - $300 junko enoshima wig! sorry for double dipping with danganronpa it was just the first fandom i actually started like. on purpose noting fandom happenings with + a lot of shit happens in that fandom. this one cosplayer who at the time was called snowthesaltqueen / badguyincorporated started selling pre-made (and styled) junko enoshima cosplay wigs for $300. which WOULD be fair (i think? idk how cosplay commissions work) if said wig was styled well or quality at all, but what was ACTUALLY provided was a rly basic wig base and few clips with no note or no nothing, and rly flat. like on purpose. like that was "the styling". also you may recognise this cosplayer for 1) getting in trouble when they did a cosplay photoshoot (danganronpa cosplay funnily enough) in a graveyard, posing ON a gravestone. 2) KILLING SOMEONE. they were screwing around with a firearm and fake pointing it at someone and then they accidentally shot them.

i'm genuinely very neurodivergent over harvey, and i'm very new to stardew. i just want to share my rants/rambles about harv here, just because i adore him. <3

at first, i actually didn't recognize him as a bachelor, even? i thought he was just like, purely an npc like pierre or whatever. i remember being on call with a friend of mine, and i asked who was the easiest character to romance—and my friend mentioned that harvey loved coffee. and... yeah, that's where it all started.

i love him, genuinely, and even though i may joke around with how goofy he can be at times, there's multiple things that make me grab onto him and want to just appreciate. in general, i love stardew's character diversity! harvey isn't the only one that's a victim to my affection (mainly emily, but i LOVE elliott too).

i think it's mainly how he reminds me way too much of myself. how he speaks matter-of-factly often, and with a bit of a mellow hint to it due to his age and occupation; i can relate to that. him being a doctor also reminds me of my more empathetic nature, and how i want to take care of others, and i've seen and been through various different experiences throughout my life due to that endeavor. him dreaming to be a pilot reminds me of how i want to indulge in other interests, but i have set limitations.

i don't romanticise him being a doctor; it's a genuine hard profession, and even if i do nor have any professional education on it, i do like his attitude on it. iirc, in one of his dialogues, he talks about how it makes such a difference in someone's day by just talking to them. i do wonder what a younger harvey would be like; considering with how he talks, it's obvious that he's been through different situations that have then built onto his maturity.

him being busy and all, i feel like harvey does love his work, and i also like (actually, i don't. he should take care of himself, but y'know what i mean) how he is TERRIBLE at following his own advice. harvey talks about using vegetables in a healthy diet, but he often eats microwave meals/convenience food. i LOVE how he finds life on the farm whenever he moves in with the player to be much more rewarding, considering he's able to actually use fresh produce (well, there's pierre's), have the time to do it all, and have someone to cook for.

i do like to believe that living up in the lil apartment in his clinic does get to him from time to time. i like how he doesn't talk about his loneliness a lot, and he opens up more about his vulnerable side on that whenever you do get closer/begin to date him. i think, to some people, it makes him sounds a bit needy—but i like to imagine it as if he has a relationship with everyone in the town, sure, but never got to the point of having a close friend. either it's just due to his more anxious nature, schedule, interests, etc.—he is simply the pelican town doctor, after all. i think he'd appreciate a little small talk now and then.

i do beleive he is anxious, but not outright shy or anything. i'm probably sure he was whenever he started out in his career, but i think he enjoys pelican town, since he knows what to expect from the townsfolk. i think with that predictability, he does seek a bit of comfort in just due to him liking a solid schedule (hc, but feel free to put your own interpretation on it). i think he can get very caught off guard by things he doesn't expect, like how everyone does, but it takes him a moment to get on track again if he's distracted.

i love his interest in planes so much. one of my favourite lines of dialogue from harv over here has to be whenever you're married to him, he talks about he's had a good day so far—he fiddled with his radio, worked on his model plane... i've forgotten the exact words (he only talks to me about daydreaming about the circulatory system anymore, but it's okay), but i think it's just me projecting—but i like to believe he simply likes to show affection by chatting about his interests!

harvey's grown comfortable with you to talk about something rather niche, and it just shows he thinks your safe to talk about the small things that make him happy. especially with how he does talk about everything, and wants the player to look at some of his work on models and the such. i dunno. i just live for the fact he views a "good day" to be indulging in his interests. literally me.

i don't believe he outright HATES his job as a doctor, however. i think it does make him feel important that he's able to provide for the people that he's able to feel at home with here in the valley, but what i've said earlier, i think it just kinda eats at him with the whole clinic business. i think him going up to his apartment with no one to really talk to about his day; no one to look forward to seeing—it's just something that's been at the back of his mind. i feel like it'd break his heart if he's learnt that someone wouldn't want to ever bother him due to his work. he'd want someone to understand that due to him being a doctor, he does get stressed easy, but he'd always try to find some time in-between all of those appointments for a chat.

i'll talk more, but i'm tired, and i don't know about what to exactly go on about. anyways, live laugh love harv. please tell me if i'm just silly and feeding too much into my headcanons, and i'm actually deluding myself from canon harv.

im having a normal one and thinking about the like 3 hours i talked with snail about Grizzly and how he plays Zephrael and like I'm being so serious when I say Zephrael is the best character I have seen Grizzly play. It's def due to being able to compare to his other characters and the fact that if we are to compare him to Arthur, he is leagues above I would say.

Theres been a fuck ton of improvement in terms of how grizz plays characters in jrwi and i was talking to snail about how despite zephrael being one of the most different characters he's played, rae feels the most like grizzly if that makes sense. he feels like an actual person rather than a character and feels so intergrated with the world that snail brought up that he feels like a character that couldve been an npc if he wasn't a player character. he feels like someone you would meet in this world and it would make sense. and god the fucking portrayal of rae makes me bonkers. his personality is so fun and odd and the way he acts is so facinating.

grizzly does so fucking good on making rae seem like an actual person you interact with and know about but still omits so much information. every character in the party is like that but with rae, we almost know so much about him yet nothing at all at the same time. i compared it to becoming friends with someone and knowing things about them just by hanging out when they suddenly tell you something huge about themselves that you never even knew about. its easy to infer from zephrael and i want to look deeper and see what he is telling from the way he acts. he's a smart guy, somewhat lost, but still wellspoken and i think about his speech often.

that goes with how grizzly acts as him which is genuinely my favourite. so many line deliveries, actions, and just like random exclaimations come off so natural and are fucking phenominal. ep 5 has become a favourite due to the dynamics we saw with the party (save me wall sunder rae trio) but i also cant stop thinking about how rae spoke a lot of the time. when he found out the smithy was on the second floor (which is still insane to me), wanting to not have to hide, and just ever interaction he had with the others or npcs. he is a very confident, almost egotistic guy but still flounders on some parts. i truly think that if he fell too far into one side he would not be as enjoyable. idk man i just think grizzly's roleplaying is fucking incredible in everything he does and it makes me excited for whats to come.

with Wonderlust coming out soonish and another patreon exclusive campaign on the horizon I truly do think Grizzly has almost set a new standard for his characters. Even if those characters only hit like 75% of how Zephrael is I do think they'll still be above a lot of hid other player characters.

Adventure Ideas from Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons

I’m rereading it recently, it’s definitely one of my favourite D&D books I’ve ever bought. And the Adventure Hooks & Connected Creatures sections of each dragon’s entry in this book’s Draconomicon are so good for adventures/adventure elements involving dragons. Some of my favourites, arranged according to vague categories:

Dragon Dungeons

“Ruins rumored to hold the treasury of a lost empire are guarded by an elaborate network of ooze-based traps designed by a restless adult black dragon.”

“An adult black dragon has hidden a cache of gems in a dismal topiary maze filled with shambling mounds, traps, and noxious plant life, all for the amusement of testing adventurers.”

(Black dragons, because of their association with fallen cultures and propensity for traps, make for great dungeon builders. Also, acid is just a nasty environmental hazard to build around, and they’re exactly the sorts of sadists who’ll make full use of it)

“A deep dragon wyrmling with an experimental bent has created a "garden" of gray oozes.”

“An adult green dragon and an adult gold dragon skirmish over control of the vine-choked ruins of a floating mausoleum and its library of talking skulls.”

(I have many, many questions about this one. Starting with the floating mausoleum (floating on water? In the air?), the library of talking skulls (though there’s one of those in Sigil as well, necromantic libraries of trapped spirits are apparently a thing), and finishing with why this particular pair of dragons are skirmishing over it. Are they each looking for information? The same information or different information? Is one of them, likely the gold, trying to destroy the library? I just. I have so many questions about this set of circumstances, and it’d be a fascinating thing to have a party stumble across, especially if they have something THEY might want from the library as well)

“A topaz dragon is building a tableau of desiccated creatures and has grown obsessed with catching one treasure hunter who escaped the dragon's clutches.”

NPCs with Draconic Friends

This is just a fantastic collection of NPCs to scatter around and have parties meet. Starting from NPCs with wyrmling companions, ranging from the fun to the rather tragic:

“A gnome relic hunter looting a long-abandoned city strikes up an unlikely partnership with a black dragon wyrmling to plunder an archaeological dig.”

“A knight rescued a bronze dragon wyrmling from sacrifice at the hands of a cult, and the two now travel together in search of wrongs to right.”

“A tiefling child has secretly hidden and raised a red dragon wyrmling from an egg. The wyrmling is bonded to the child, but dangerous to anyone else.”

“A family of deep gnomes adopts a shadow dragon wyrmling, hoping to show the dragon a noble path through gloom and despair.”

“A pirate crew keeps a curmudgeonly topaz dragon wyrmling as a beloved mascot.”

To NPCs with young dragon companions:

“A child's imaginary friend is a very real young copper dragon who can cast invisibility.”

“A young crystal dragon uses dancing lights and hypnotic pattern to give an air of authenticity to a charlatan fortuneteller's act, in exchange for a portion of the take from the charlatan's clients.”

“An assassin and a young emerald dragon train together to master the art of stealth.”

To more dangerous NPCs/enemies with adult or older draconic protection:

“An adult shadow dragon and a death knight are both hunted by adventurers. In their previous lives, the two were sworn enemies, but now they join together against their common foes.”

(There’s a real romance to this, two sworn enemies who fell to separate evils who come together now for pure survival. I would TOTALLY play this for undying loyalty, have the two of them be undoubtedly evil but also genuinely, death-defyingly loyal to each other, the only ones who know fully what each other has been through.)

“A death knight and an ancient white dragon swap tales of old foes and unanswered grievances, nursing the hunger for vengeance that sustains them.”

(Not going to lie, I’m really fond of this pairing, and not just because it’s a fantastic picture of two bitter, hateful, disgruntled old fogies sitting in the bitter cold grumbling together about ancient grudges, but instead of two grumpy old men at a bar, one of them is undead, and the other is a DRAGON. If the party is good at stealth, it’d be a fantastic picture to throw at them, you’re just hiding there holding your breath while these two incredibly lethal foes just *grumble* and commiserate with each other)

Dragons Loyal Beyond Death

Somewhat of a continuation of the above, more draconic loyalty, even after the death/corruption of the one they’re loyal to:

“An adult gold dragon feels responsible for a paladin's fall from grace and sends minions across the world in search of the paladin—now a death knight—so they both might be redeemed.”

(Fizban’s firmly believes that dragons and death knights make the best thematic companions, and I will grant them this point, because it’s got some fantastic warped chivalric imagery and I love it. A nice quest to entangle the party in if they’re the sort to enjoy moral quandries and redemption)

“A renowned gnome trickster, now deceased, so impressed an ancient copper dragon that the dragon assumes the gnome's form from time to time to help keep their legend alive.”

(This is just the … the best, most loving use of a dragon’s lifespan and shapeshifting abilities. That theme from The Last Unicorn of immortality through the memory of an immortal being. And of *course* it’s a gnome and a copper dragon, of course it’s the admiration of two tricksters. I’m not sure how well it’d fit into an adventure, but having a party learn this secret and decide what to do with it, to reveal the deception or let it continue, could be an interesting angle)

“Despite repeated mind flayer attacks, a young deep dragon refuses to leave the cave where the dragon's best friend—an adventurer who won the dragon's respect and affection—lingers as a ghost.”

(… I’m crying. What’s the solution here? Convince the ghost to move on or otherwise lay the ghost to rest so that the dragon can leave, knowing that this will mean the dragon loses their friend for good? Try to convince the dragon to leave their friend even if they still exist? Try to destroy the mindflayer colony? Try to somehow hide the cave from the mindflayers, so that the two can stay together? Try to distract the mindflayers with a different conflict so they’ll focus their efforts in that direction instead (at the risk of other nearby inhabitants)? What a fantastic and heartbreaking little situation to stumble across)

Dragon Communities

Whole communities that have incorporated or built up around a dragon, for when you want dragons as an acknowledged part of daily life somewhere, and have parties decide how to deal with that:

“An adult copper dragon serves as the patron of a community of gnome tinkerers, who present their best ideas to the dragon in hopes of being funded.”

(Sidenote: gnomes and dragons seem to get on great)

“A community of seal hunters reveres an ancient crystal dragon as the spirit of their glacier home. Such worship amuses and flatters the dragon, who keeps the hunters safe and leads them to locations where seals are plentiful.”

“A clan of gnomes pays a young dragon turtle to serve as a mobile refueling platform for their fleet of steamboats.”

(I love this one SO MUCH. Starting from the gnome steamboat flotilla itself, however you want to play this, from just a great lakes inspiring shipping business to an after-the-end Waterworld type scenario, to them then having a goddamn dragon turtle cooperating with them. Fantastic from all angles)

“An emerald dragon is the headmaster in absentia of a bardic college and must be convinced to defend the school in a contest against a rival college.”

Other Cool Dragon Plots

And then just some assorted draconic plots, which was *almost* just ancient dragons causing problems, but there was also one miscellaneous shadow dragon prompt that was just fantastic as well:

“An ancient green dragon is the guardian of a lich's phylactery and extorts favors from the lich.”

(Now *there’s* a power struggle to get embroiled in. A lich attempting to use the parties as agents to unknowingly retrieve their phylactery for them from an *undoubtedly* evil dragon’s hoard, and a subtle, sneaky green dragon who is literally *holding the lich’s life hostage against it* and who could potentially just reveal that to get the party to back off. If they didn’t feel like be subtle and using their own shapeshifting to turn the party back on the lich some other way. I fucking love green dragons. They’re such fantastic bastards and I adore them)

“An ancient crystal dragon follows a pod of whales from one sea to another, having grown fond of the valuable ambergris they leave in their wake. Now whalers are scheming to kill the dragon.”

(Okay. This is just such great *imagery* to start with, the whales and the whalers and the vast draconic protector, the greed and the livelihoods and the protection of nature, the looming mercantile interests of the perfume industry that uses the product … Ambergris is such a fascinating RL substance and history. Also, great quest if you’ve got druids or other characters interested in the protection of nature, balanced against more ‘civilised’ interests and risking’s the party’s relationship with some likely quite powerful players)

“An ancient deep dragon has put the folk of a city to work building the dragon a metropolis to rule in the center of a vast underground salt lake.”

(Again, this is just such a great, eerie image for a party to stumble across. The vast white lake under the black ceiling, the salt-scarred slaves (or are they slaves? could they be working willingly, and why?) toiling to raise labyrinthine white walls, the strange, fungal, nightmarish dragon at the centre of it. Given the deep dragon attraction to knowledge and writings, there could be an underdark library involved, strange writings embedded in carved salt granting the entire edifice unnatural durability as the deep dragon’s regional effect, that physical forms of writing cannot be damaged by nonmagical means within 6 miles of the lair, mean that these white, bloodstained walls *will not fall easily*. It’s just … such an image)

“A shadow dragon hunts the descendants of the miners who, centuries ago, uncovered the Shadowfell portal that caused the dragon's corruption.”

(And for a finisher, I just really like this. This miner’s curse, this vengeance from beneath the earth, this black shadow that follows a family line for not even a crime but a centuries-old *accident*. Possibly the Miner Forty Niner from Scooby Doo stuck a little too hard for me, but cursed miners is still just a great image. Is it worth attempting to convince the dragon that the sins of the fathers should not be borne by the sons? Or do we just have to slay the dragon?)

Conclusion

I do love this book. A lot. The Draconomicon section on its own is well worth reading. But, well. I also just really like dragons. So there’s that. Heh.

You are everything to Eddie. Perfect in every single way. You’re the only person who’s ever given a shit about him, and you’re his shining light in life. He genuinely doesn’t know how he’d live life without you now he’s been blessed by you, you’re his angel he calls you, he tells you that all the time. You are quite literally the most important thing in Eddie’s world. You make him feel like the best version of himself he can be, and he loves you with everything he has

Except his angelface deals with depression. And in her worst times, suicidal ideation. Eddie is there for you always, but it stabs his heart 1000 times over whenever he’s reminded by you just how much you don’t feel like you deserve anything. How you don’t want to deserve good things. You are the best thing in Eddie’s world, and you promised you wouldn’t leave him, even though his blood runs cold when he worries you could still. But you sometimes can’t see yourself in that way, the way eddie sees you, in any good way. And he’s always there to put you back together, but he’s always crying as soon as you’re finally asleep, because no matter how strong he always is for you, he just feels like he doesn’t know what to do. He loves you, and he feels helpless...

i can imagine Eddie doing that soft touch against the back of your head, cradling it and pulling you forward for a kiss between your brows and a "you okay, baby?" whenever he sees that lower lip trembling like you're about to cry. if you let it out right away, you get pushed into his chest with your face buried in his neck while he holds you, and just hums reassurances until you're all dried out. but if you try and keep the tears back he coaxes them out with his thumbs on your cheeks, rubbing little circles into them and leaning in close so he can whisper that it's okay, you can cry as hard and as much as you like, that it's better to let it out rather than bottle it up.

and while he's generally pretty good at talking away whatever's nagging at your mind, sometimes Eddie knows the words that are better left unsaid. sometimes it's better for him to show that he loves you rather than telling you. fluffing up your pillows and fetching your favourite blanket when you're getting ready for a nap. pulling the shower curtain open to kiss you before he leaves the trailer, even though he gets his hair all wet and has to shake it out. leaving your favourite sweets out on the counter, sitting under a bowl for you to come home to. cutting your sandwiches into hearts and writing "i love you" with your condiments even when you don't see them. burning a million mixtapes with you in mind, ranging in titles from "nighttime angel thoughts", "loving my angel in the day", "dreaming of my angel", "thoughts i have of you", etc etc. running up to hug you as fast and tight as he can after being apart--no matter if it was ten hours or ten seconds. taking you on rides in the van when you need to get out of your room, loading up your favourite songs in the radio, and scream-singing them alongside you to get all that rage or sadness or anxiety out by force. bruising up his thumbs with the hammer while building a little garden plot by the side of the trailer, just so he can plant some little flowers you like in the colours that make you the happiest, and you can look out the window and see them when they're all in bloom. making you an npc in his campaign that you can play if you like, and if you're not at the hellfire meetings, he can come home and chatter in great detail about all the adventures his mini-angel went on with the party and how much fun they had.

these are some of the many ways he shows his love, hopefully in enough doses that he can get a smile or a laugh out of you when you're least expecting it. but even if he doesn't, he would never quit trying to--no matter how many pieces you feel like you're shattering into, Eddie will always sit and spend the time helping you put yourself back together. he'll kiss those painful words off your mouth, those claims that you're crazy and pathetic and worthless, he'll smother you in kiss after kiss until you don't have the breath to say one more insult. he hates when you're mean to his little angel, he's sure their feelings are hurt, and he has to kiss all those little wounds better!

hello friend, what is fable? you seem to like it a lot and i gotta be honest i dont know the first thing about it. now,, i COULD ask google but i think that you could explain it better mhm mhm

[So, in a general, overall statement, Fable is a series of games from the 2000's-2010's. It's a quintessential bit of adventure fantasy, and totally progressive of its time.]

[Fable, as a whole, is about making your own sort of path within the story, and having your actions reflected on the world and yourself. It has a cool morality morphing system where, when you do something good or bad, not only does it affect the funny lil' NPCs around you, but it also reflects on your body. Do enough good actions, your complexion becomes glowing and you have a halo, do enough bad and you become more demonic looking.]

[There's actually both a deep and semi-shallow amount of lore. The first game was deffo built upon the bending and twisting of stories and folklore- you know, fables- and the games after followed along centuries after that, showing a world trying to grow past it's story built roots, but not being completely rid of them, even as technology grows and advances.]

[It's also British as hell. But, like, in a fun way! There's a fun and wonderful mix of light and darkness, sincerity and satire, sadness and humour. There's these beasties called Hobbes that are these sorta ugly things that act silly in and out of combat, but they also eat human flesh and are rumored to turn children into them. Some of them turn into kamikazes and they like teddy bears.]

[Also you can kick chickens (they're fine, don't worry about it, they have reinforced feathers)]

[Your character is a Hero (with the capital H), a person who is born to be able to deal with the struggles of protecting or commanding respect of the common man. You can wield and utilize Strength, Skill and Will, the trio of combat skills. The combat is a bit simple, but it's also fun and easy to get into. You can also upgrade with experience points to get better with your weapons and will powers.]

[I think the story, world, and characters of Fable: The Lost Chapters are extremely iconic, but the character building and development starts to really shine in the later games. All the games have wonderful setting appearance, though. Looking at pictures of Fable are these beautiful settings and desktop/screen background worthy scenes. The people look a bit silly, though.]

[Also? This game series is also progressive bc of its LGBT+ rep. The first game got called out for letting the male only player Hero marry a man, so the next game include bisexuals. Fable 3 lets you adopt children, regardless of your spouse's gender. There's a potion that lets you trans your gender (available only once in a quest after the main quest) and no one bats an eye to it (if you have a straight spouse, they won't immediately divorce you as long as you treat them well, but they won't have sex either.) There's a quest where you help out a guy find a suitor who is secretly gay, and the end of the quest is him coming out to his dad and being accepted. You can wear clothes of either gender, and get tattoos, hair, and facial hair regardless of your sex. (there is a cross-dressing statistic, but the Brits love a bit of cross-dressing humour.)]

[Now, I will not lie and say that they are perfect games, there are some flaws with them, and Fable 3 gets a bit of a bad rap for it's heavy streamlining, but I can genuinely say that these games are cherished a lot. Fable 2 is my go-to favourite game ever, and every once and a blue moon, I will be revitalized with a longing for the series. If you wanna get into it, I think it's a fun time for an old-ish game, and I really hope the new one that's coming out in {*looks at wrist*} the-yet-to-be-announced-future will be as cherishable, even if it's slightly different.]

[Also? Like, every time I (re)enter an interest/fixation, I make a little Fable AU in my head to consider what kind of heroes the characters might be.]

Non-con, dub-con (including A/B/O) or sexual assault.

Animal abuse.

Thread with abusive/manipulative characters. I’ve had abusive relationships OOC, and I do not want to be dealing with them in my RP as well. Villains are on a case by case basis, but muses who are by their canon nature or intended to be played as abusive are not.

Very, very selective with;

Pregnancy threads. Thera is not going to be pregnant, and I'm selective on threads where the other muse is.

‘Unrequited crush’ threads need to be talked about first, and boundaries set.

‘Fight’ threads where it’s Thera against someone else’s muse. Her vs random NPCs is fine.

Child muses (under 13). NPCs are OK, but not children who are the main muse. Any threads with older teens will be strictly platonic.

Shipping / Smutting. No instant smut. I will write smut, but only in the context of an established ship. And on that note …

Shipping needs to be talked about first. Thera is multiship, male-attracted, and we enjoy shipping. It's entirely possible it's crossed my mind already when we start writing. But it’s still not going to be an automatic-everybody thing. There’s got to be some sort of IC build up and OOC talk as well, to see how the muses get along and that we're on the same page. If we haven't talked about it OOC, it's not happening.

No means no. On both sides. If I say no to something I expect you to listen. Conversely, if you say no I’m going to take that as final, so if you change your mind later you need to tell me.

Also please do not say yes when you mean no. Just rip off the bandaid, OK?

Interaction Please communicate, please reciprocate. As it says at the top this is a hobby, but it’s a hobby we should both enjoy and it’s not enjoyable when something’s all one-sided. Busy happens, favourites happen, but if I’m doing all the sending and messaging and you don’t do any, especially if you’re active with others, then no hard feelings but I’m going to move along.

Discord I'm hesitant to engage 1x1 on Discord with people I haven't spoken with either here or in a group server there. I have no problem RPing on Discord, but I prefer to talk with someone first beforehand. I know most are genuinely just trying to find partners to write with, but I've seen and met too many who are looking to 'get someone alone' for unpleasant reasons.

Reblogging Memes Please don’t reblog memes or starter lists from me without sending me one. You don't have to send me something, but if you don’t please reblog them from the source instead.

Post length I’m good with any, as long as we’re on the same page. But if I’m doing paras and getting one line back, it makes me wonder if you really want to be doing it at all. If you’re stuck, I’m totally open to waiting, plotting or re-writing.

Starter Calls (mine) Starters take me time, effort and ideas, but a lot of them go unanswered. So, I have a 3-strike rule. If I write you starters you request three times and you don’t reply or let me know there’s a problem, I won’t write any more for you.

Triggers and Tags NSFW or strong violence will be tagged (smut is tagged ‘BadThings’ and 'NaughtyList'), potential triggers as '[thing] tw'. If you need anything specific tagged, let me know (if you have a tag already blacklisted, tell me and I’ll use it).

Likewise, if there’s something you’re not comfortable RPing (or thought you were but then realise you’re not) please say so - I only ask that you do the same for me if needed.

God-Modding and Meta-gaming

God-Modding. I write my muse, you write yours, and if in doubt, ask. Please don’t decide for me what she does, thinks or feels (or did before the events of the thread), that your muse has done something major to her, or put her in a certain situation, without running it past me first. Also, ignoring what I’ve just written and continuing as if Thera never said or did something counts as god-modding, too.

Verses are separate unless it's been discussed OOC beforehand. Please don't shoehorn Thera into your own existing group verse without talking about it with me first.

Meta-gaming is giving your muse OOC knowledge IC. There are muses out there powerful enough that they could know things, but please talk to me about it first. Your muse suddenly knowing all about Thera for no IC reason and without asking me is not going to work out.

On those last two points, I also reserve the right to say no.

Vague/Guilt-Posting Trying to pressure or guilt me into RPing with you is going to have the opposite effect to what you want. Asking if I saw a post or reminding me once or twice is fine, talking to me directly about a problem, likewise. Messages specifically intended to make me feel bad for not replying/RPing with you are not.

OH MY GOD UM im really not sure???? as far as i can remember ive always been writing

i was a freakishly verbose child ( I CALLED MY SISTER AN IMBECILE WHEN I WAS 3??? ) and very ahead in terms of reading and writing because kno. The Autism. i was reading like actually Reading adult-level encyclopedias for fun from when i was like, 3 or something so ive always been into literature and i think it just kinda spawned from there?? i was writing stories and keeping them in punched pockets, writing plays and fanfiction and stories on microsoft word, so it was something i always did afaik

if there was a key point i don't remember it, but there are some things that stick out to me; once when i was around 11?i got a pokemon fan magazine that had honest to god fanfiction in it and that was like. immense to me. like you're telling me other people write about their favourite franchises like this?? and after that i really started taking stuff more seriously in regards to how i was writing another was when i was. ??? unsure but my teacher at the time wrote on my work "remember me when you are a famous author :)" and that sticks with me to this day. she was kind of a huge bitch but that was such a genuinely moving comment and i think abt it a lot sometimes

and a lot of little things too. like being told by online friends that i was an amazing writer for my age, or my english teacher being legitimately visibly excited to talk about my writing. so yea :3

Are you happy with how your favorite canon muse was portrayed in canon?

HMMM. in terms of raikov i Think so ? but i do wish we had got more of him. and specifically more of his relationship with volgin because they're very cute together. idk if i've mentioned it here before but i theorise that their relationship was initially meant to play a larger part in mgs3, because mgs is known for having very multi-layered and complex villains, and volgin isn't really shown as one. and yeah that's likely what they were going for with a more bond-esque narrative, but the fact he's constantly portrayed as evil personified WHILE ALSO having parts that shows he genuinely loves and cares abt someone... idk. it feels like they wanted to make that more prominent to add more depth to his character but they just didn't

SO REALLY thats my only critique, i wish we had seen more of him interacting with the other characters rather than nameless npcs. i'm kind of content with him being a mostly blank slate, though -- it means i can do a lot more work on him :3

hello everyone, the annoying spaniard is back to rant about the cultural references i'm seeing on my pokemon scarlet playthrough! here's my previous post in case you want to check it out :)

i have many thoughts about zapapico cause it's most likely based on almería and granada and my family is from there and yeah... anyways

the house design of that town, with them being excavated in the stone like that, is definitely inspired by the house-caves of guadix (granada) [pics 4-6], cuevas del almanzora (almería) [pics 7-9], and many others (those are just the ones i know about / been to). the sourrounding landscape reminds me of almería and its tabernas desert but, based on its location and the fact that there's another more likely desert in the other side of the region, i would say all of that area is based on los monegros desert (aragón) [pics 10-12], the other extremely arid area in the country.

and now i wanted to talk extensively (i'm sorry) about probably my favorite part of the game so far... team star poison squad.

to start, let's talk about the location. tagtree thicket is based on the oma forest in the basque country (i sadly forgot to take more pics of the location in the game so you only get this screenshot of my team before entering the base)

this might be a reach, but oddly enough i think it might be also at least partly inspired on sierra morena. i genuinely only got this connection cause at the entrance to the forest an npc (once again i forgot to take a screenshot of it) tells you to be wary of the forest, as the area is full of bandits and rascals and whatnot. that reminded me of the bandolero culture and the romantization of it, which flourished in sierra morena and other mountainous areas of andalusia. in particular there was a legendary bandolero called curro jiménez that got his own tv show (he was basically a spanish robin hood). there's even a cartoon in andalusian tv about a ragtag group of bandoleros with a bomb opening song. this is not actually too far off of the characterization of the leader of team star's poison team (my new favourite character ever)...

where to start with atticus?? (btw why is that his name in english?? in spanish he's named henzo which makes much more sense imo) let's start with the obvious: he's a ninja (which actually is an incredible design choice i'm kissing the pokemon team in the lips rn). but apart from that, everything else is heavily spanish inspired. basically, all of his persona is taken straight out of what's referred to as the spanish golden age (more or less the 16th and 17th centuries). i imagine his speech patterns and personality are an homage to shakespeare in the english version, but in the spanish one he speaks just like don quixote and actually has a lot of similarities to that character. for those of you who don't know much about don quixote, it is known as the greatest literature work in the spanish language ever and was written by miguel de cervantes (to help you situate all of this, he was a contemporary of shakespeare. in fact, in school we learn they died on the same day but on different calendars or something like that, it's a whole thing). in the novel, alfonso is a noble who spends all day reading chivalric romances to the point he at some points loses his mind and thinks of himself as a medieval knight that has to defeat evils and save people and whatnot. don quixote's speech patterns are mocked within the novel for sounding antiquated (just like atticus' speech sounds old for us). other direct references to don quixote are the fact that in the flashback the fairy dude comments on how atticus is a nerd of ninja and epic novels [pic 1], and the fact that during his presentation atticus says he is a 'desfacedor de entuertos' [pic 2], the same expression don quixote uses (it would kinda translate to 'problem solver' i guess?).

apart from don quixote, there's also references to playwright calderón de la barca, most noticeable through atticus' dramatic attitude (his first words are 'jumping to scene' [pic 1] and in his picture he is bowing to you [pic 3]), as well as one particular line after you defeat him where he says an extremely calderonian line [pic 2]

Since I already talked about Ada and Luis being narrative foils I won't do it again, though that's probably one of my most favourite things. Mostly, I just love that the writing in re4r is SO good. Village was my intro to resident evil (and then I was so obsessed w Chris I wanted to learn everything there is to know about RE which got me into all the other games/films lmao) but Village is definitely a very poor example of writing in video games.

I love that Ashley gets to be a genuine character now, rather than a reflection of misogyny and general apathy towards anyone remotely feminine. I love that we have more of Ada as well, that she's not hypersexualised, and that she's played by an Asian actress who gives the best Ada performance in all of Resident Evil. I love that we have more of Luis, that he's not some creep scumbug but he actually has a personality/interests/deep backstory, and that he gets redemption. I am a sucker for characters with dark pasts who get redemption (Agent Kallus my beloved). I love how Luis was written as a narrative foil to Ada. I love how he's even gayer than in the original which is saying something. I love the theme of change so much and I totally talk about it extensively. There's so much narrative goodness.

Gameplay wise though I love that it's easy enough to play without losing quality, AND that the horror isn't so overwhelming like in re7 where I physically can't get past certain parts of the game without a 3 month break LMAO. I also love how layered it is, with lovely details like being able to shoot the church bell yourself to end the intro village fight. Or how the AI of Ashley is far more efficient when she's in NPC mode than in the original, dear lord. I love how the remake honoured the original while also improving it drastically. Ugh this game is so so good.

Bestowing the greatest honour on my favourite and most beloved minor NPC, Rolan Baldursgate3; an agonising slow burn, mutual pining, 'enemies' to lovers romance arc.

I've thought a little too much about this girl. There's a lot under the read more. I wasn't expecting to write quite so much but that's how it goes sometimes.

Rhen || Tiefling || Druid

Rhen's a rural/urban Druid more than anything. The wilderness is nice but her specialities lie where 'man' meets nature.

Within that her domain is fertility. Bountiful crop harvests where the land allows, heathly livestock births, protecting areas where creatures are raising young and guiding the local farmers around them.

Her preferred wildshape is a hardy breed of wild cow.

From Elturel, she lived in a humble home in the city but spent much of her time roaming the farmlands to lend a welcome hand.

Suffered immensely during the descent into Avernus, seperated from familiar nature, but found her experience and skills put to hard use as a fighter, healer, midwife, and herbalist.

When exiled from Elturel along with the other Tieflings she finds herself in a position of responsibility alongside other similarly experienced figures. Spends much of her time protecting the refugees, carrying children on her wildshaped back, hunting, pathfinding, healing, cooking...

The early travel from Elturel is where she bonds most with the other Tiefling refugees, and where she first meets Lia, Cal and of course Rolan...with whom she butts heads viciously.

Rhen's defining characteristic is deep, ingrained stubborness. Right or wrong, she will find her hill and she won't just die on it but take everything else down with her. Which, combined with Rolan's mouthiness, percieved 'better-than-you' attitude, and percieved 'fuck your problems I'm out' behaviour, she loathes him. She'd have let him go die on the road if Zevlor hadn't been there to regularly divert her attention and give her a good talking to.

Similarly, Rolan would've sooner let her wear herself into dust trying to keep the refugees safe than try and help with something so futile. Her bossiness and percieved 'holier-than-thou' attitude would easily spark his temper and if it weren't for his siblings he'd be continuing their frequent and unnescessary arguements even to his own detriment.

When they're under less stress in The Grove things become more peaceful. Rhen doesn't really fit in with the local Druids, not that they let her try, so she spends time with the Tieflings, helping keep the camp in order despite being asked repeatedly to rest for the long journey ahead.

Somehow she and Rolan manage to have some nice enough moments together where she learns of his apprenticeship, sees how much he cares for his siblings (and how much that affects him) and comes to appreciate his intelligence even if she's of the firm belief that he's an overconfident prick. She kind of likes that though.

Equally in the calm moments she shows her relaxed side, telling bawdy jokes quietly when everyone is being serious, playing with the children, dancing whenever there's the hint of music. Rolan gets to see a wise Tiefling teaching the children what plants heal and harm, learns himself that she has (when given the chance) the ability to see things about people and compliment them with aching sincerity.

Enemies to rivals. Two incredibly stubborn and prideful people who can't admit that maybe the other is OK. Tolerable. They butt heads after leaving The Grove again but it's not as aggressive. They're actually kind of enjoying it, the competition, a really stupid drive to be better. Respect more than anything.

Obviously Rolan genuinely fucking hates every instance of Rhen protecting his people and himself though, same as he does for a good-ish Tav.

The people close to these two idiots are silently begging that they work out that everyone can see the gods damned tension and if they could just have sex already it'd make everyone's lives easier.

They do not. Alongside the others, Rhen is captured during the ambush and taken to Moonrise.

Knowing how much Lia and Cal mean to Rolan, and Danis to Bex, she does everything in her power to keep them safe and out of the line of fire of the Moonrise guards. All of her determination, stubborness and Lia's fire, gets her through...but she's thoroughly ruined by the time they reach Last Light via prison break.

During this Rolan is drunk, very drunk, rescued by our main Tav (who is probably Elysia here) and, between missing and worrying for his siblings' safe return, trying to squash down the fear that he might not see Rhen again either.

He does though. He sees her, and she barely glances his way before shutting him out cold. He's got his siblings in one piece, Bex has her man, and she's given her all, killed herself to do it...which is what Rolan had wanted way back when. She's bitter that he was right. It's stupid but she's exhausted.

She has a camp out by the water near Last Light where she secludes herself. Rolan's still drinking, and does so until Lia and Cal tell him about Moonrise, bully him with 'just go talk to her, we're not stupid, don't be a fucking coward'.

He does. They yell at each other for long enough, with enough barbs and cutting words and sincerity, she slaps him at least once, he grabs her wrists and tugs her back every time she tries to storm away, eventually the frustration makes him snap so he grabs her wrists again, shoves her up against the rock face and kisses her, tails tangled and knotted together, angry marks left on her neck.

They don't say a single word before untangling, Rolan making a quick escape leaving a wildly fucking confused Druid who would've liked that to continued but also what the everloving fuck.

The same poor people close to them know something happened but all it did was make the fucking tension worse.

Rivals to stupid crushes that they're pretending aren't super obvious to everyone including each other. They don't talk about the kiss. They really want to but pride and stubborness.

And then Rolan isn't around. He's studying under Lorroakan and Rhen barely gets to see him. He doesn't let her visit. He won't meet up with her. She gets kinda mad about it until she sees him in Sorcerous Sundries covered in bruises. He swears it's fine, it's just the way it is. It's worth it. She's fucking furious but she tames it. She says she'll be there when he's working, just company, just to be near him. She'll support him but Gods help her if she has a chance to hurt the bastard that did this.

He spends a lot of time focused on studies, in deep concentration. She heals his wounds, brings him food, tea, books he's requested. It's not for her, he doesn't need to have time for her. After all devotion and stubborness are very similar.

I...wasn't expecting to write all that. I'm sure it's a mess because I'm tired and it's 2:30am. I'm sure I'll change a load about this as I spend more time with it (getting more into character etc etc.) and wind it up, but for now...it's out of my brain.
